If you feel a burning,
sensation call somebody else but yeah anything else call us all right let's let's bring in our pal george
rister from the unafraid show george how are we feeling i feel good man the sun is shining the
the sun came out today uh my uh my wife's out of town thankfully and and and when i say thankfully
it is because she's a ucLA fan and a ucela grad and so her parents and and i can't
cannot tell you. Like, it's so bad that I'm bringing her on the show on Thursday for,
for content. Like, I must, there's, there, people will enjoy what the heck is going on,
because they need to understand what living with this woman is like right now. And it is,
it is insufferable. She dressed our kids in, I, I came back from the studio on Sunday,
kids in UCLA gear. She's in UCLA gear. I, I open up our joint email, because we have a joint email that
we use for like kids events and all that stuff the way all the family has it on one calendar
and i look up and you know UCLA just did a new deal with fanatics i see in i open up my
email i'm on the plane and i see oh your your fanatics order has been processed i don't even look
to see what's in it i know what's in it she's on some nonsense right now well listen my wife's always
right but at least we went to the same school so i don't have to
to deal with any sort of rivalry situation.
It's not a rivalry.
Oregon's won pretty much every single time since we've been together.
You know,
you know when they didn't win Saturday?
They didn't win Saturday.
So now you have to deal with it for a year.
I mean,
there are joys of having a football-loving wife.
There are also joys of having a wife that asks you on Sunday
if Texas A&M one.
Like, you know, sometimes that's okay too.
But here's the thing is,
that I was right about Bob Chesney.
I called this in the preseason.
I told everybody and everybody, oh, George, you're crazy.
I was like, this is a minimum eight-win team.
Now, granted, I don't know if they get to eight wins now because Nick goes out and
we're going to see what either Defebock or Madden I, Maliava can do because I will tell
you, one of those two players was not happy in the game on Saturday.
Would he be related to the one that didn't that left the game?
Yes, yes.
That would be the one.
Well, there's a lot of quarterback drama to sift through, including at your
alma mater as well.
Let's first, because this is, we're turning it over to the people.
Let's hear from Thomas, the Oregon fan on Saturday.
Hi.
We and Andy.
Andy, or are we?
I don't know at this point.
Thomas from Chicago, an Oregon fan that called in a couple weeks ago up to Oakland State
lost about firing Dan Landing and hiring Tommy Reese.
I'm not going to be going back on that soapbox again.
But I just, after an hour, I have calmed down on the way to Wendy's.
I'm going to buy, I don't know, four or five.
Vegas, Union Cheeseburgers, Frosty.
I'm not sure.
That's why I'm not screaming yawning.
I did that during the game, but now I've been holding on.
A couple questions.
When can we have the Dan Lane conversation?
Because prior to the season, the last two losses were to Indiana, Ohio State,
which everyone was talking about.
But two blowout losses, team not ready,
underachieving playing teams that were above even competition and losing.
Also hiring Drew Mariner, which may be the worst offensive coordinator in college football.
How my rule thumb is, and I think in business or sports or not, never hire from within.
You hire outside the organization to get new eyes, new vision, new innovation.
You want you guys in-house to get promoted so you can hire from outside to bring in to see what can
they bring in to better the organization to improve it to see what you're doing wrong and
what you can improve.
That is on Dan Landing.
And two, not getting this team motivated and ready, I think is also a concern of against
top-notch opponents like UCLA.
UCLA is a very good team.
Play-out team, mark my words.
And just getting boat race by Indiana and Ohio State.
So please, tell me if I'm wrong to raise questions of can Dan Landing actually get the team
over the home.
not bring up recruiting because last time I checked, where are we ranked from Blue Chip prospects of fourth and fifth stars?
Please tell me, because how did four and fifth stars play like absolute abysmal defense and offense?
They're not in the right spaces.
There's no effort.
Like, you can't just say, oh, he does well recruiting.
Recruiting, we lost a bunch of 25-year-olds who are on AARP last year in Indiana.
So don't tell me of recruiting when, in this day, I'm an end.
NIL in Oregon, you can throw money at players so the recruiting is not as what is intensified
and is much important.
It's to get a coach that can run either an offense or defense or get people who can run an
offense or defense.
I'm sorry, but I think you need someone as a head coach who calls plays an offense, takes charge,
and you know that side of the ball is Donman and is going to give you points and give you
w's.
He's still talking?
Google Voice only allows the three-minute message.
He's still talking.
He's probably still going and rightfully sort.
So, George, since you're familiar with the program,
you played there, you have relationships still there.
What is your take on the call in Oregon in general?
First off, I'm stealing this.
We will have a Google Voice set up for next week.
That was amazing.
I don't even, okay, so let's have the damn.
Lennon conversation. Okay.
Okay. Let's fire Dan Lannning and hire Tommy Reese.
That was we did that last week, George.
Don't, you don't have to go down that road. We did that last week.
And he said he's not doing it again because he learned.
Okay.
We made fun of him when he called in about that.
So. Okay. Okay. So let's address the Dan Lending never has the team ready for
anything.
can anybody please explain to me how you get to the college football semi-final last year,
get to the quarterfinal the year before, win the Big Ten, the first year that you're in it,
beat a top five team in the Big Ten championship, and you beat Ohio State earlier in that season.
But he's never has them ready for any big game.
Well, George, here's the, can I rephrase the question from somebody who's not emotionally,
impacted by Oregon.
I think it
depending on if you're a glass half full,
glass half empty guy,
you know,
you can look at Dan Lannning coming into this year
and say,
you know,
all of his losses are to teams
that either won the national championship
or played for the national championship.
And you can use that as a highlight, right?
Yeah.
But, and for me,
I was a glass half full guy,
which is like it's hard to win national championships.
It's hard to beat teams that are that good.
Of course his loss.
are against those teams, it's really hard to beat them.
But when you start combining what has happened so far this year with all of those losses,
is it time to at least start to question him in a way that he hasn't been questioned before?
No, no.
Okay.
You guys have been covering this for a very, very, very, very, very, very, very long time,
especially you, Andy.
Hey, I'm almost two decades in two.
I'm like two years older than you.
I'm not a kid anymore.
I'm a 40-year-old, man.
I've been doing this for almost 20 years.
Okay, you two very, very, very, very long time.
All right.
So the question that I have for you is this.
What was Kirby Smart doing in year five?
And what was the conversation around Kirby Smart in year five?
Never going to get the offense right.
He lost to Florida in year five.
That was the only time he's lost to Florida other than year one.
So, yeah, it hasn't lost him since.
And they were saying that they should have.
kept, who was right before him?
Mark Rick.
Yes, yes.
We should have kept Mark Rick.
At least we were winning 10 games a year and all of this stuff.
What was happening in Ryan Day's career in year six?
Mm-hmm.
Lost to Oregon.
Hadn won a national championship and lost to Michigan,
a toothless forward,
forward pass, inept offense, okay?
What was Nick Saban doing in year six?
I mean, the whole point of this is,
is that everybody wants to think that microwave results happen.
First time head coaches have lessons to learn.
They are going to go through ups and downs.
And people romanticize like Nick Saban's career,
because the documentary, all that stuff,
they romanticize his career the same way that they romanticize
Michael Jordan's career.
What were people saying about Nick Sabin's career?
saying about Nick saving his last two years.
Oh my God, I don't think he's got it.
It's time for Nick to go.
The game is passed by and everything.
We live in a attention economy where like if you don't have something immediate results,
what you want, then all of a sudden that that's just a terrible thing.
We've lost the idea of process.
And truly what, even though fans will not admit it, I believe that fans really want
respectability more than anything.
They want to know that their team is going to go out and go fight and go compete and all of this stuff.
Yes, national championships are important.
There are only four current head coaches that have national championships.
So I think we need to fire everybody else every single season.
Everybody's just on this emotional roller coaster.
And yes, it is frustrating.
But that's what college football is.
And guess what people?
you are going to experience even more of that now.
Like the idea that teams are just going to stay at the top for forever, it doesn't work like that.
Think about this.
Andy and Ari, I know that I'm not sure if I'm the only person who said this.
Does anybody know what happens if Ohio State loses to Indiana on Saturday?
They would have two losses and probably be in very precarious position vis-a-vis the college football playoff.
nobody is talking about that because tensions are going to get real high.
So like imagine how much the stakes of that Oregon Ohio State game go up if they're both
sitting with two losses going into that game.
And look over at LSU.
Their seasons on life support too.
One more, one more loss.
They got no ranked wins.
They got nothing to stand on outside of being Clemson right now.
So I do understand the frustration.
but we have to put it in perspective of what's going on in the sport.
I have a lot to unpack there, George.
So first of all, let me say that I respectfully agree with a lot of what you said.
In fact, you can go find on On3.com, subscribe to the website if you haven't yet.
Columns where I've written about both Dan Lanning and Steve Sarkeesian as recently as this summer saying the same exact thing that you're saying,
which is what were they saying about Ryan Day in Year 5?
what were they saying about, you know, Kirby Smart and your five.
But the difference is that Sark's been a head coach for over a decade, like well over a decade.
But they all, they are, they have a lot in common in that they've built rosters that are,
are expensive and talented and, you know, should break through at some point.
So two, two prong question here.
One, which is just because Ryan Day and Kirby Smart broke through doesn't mean that you shouldn't question people who haven't yet, right?
Like, I'm not saying he should be fired.
I'm going to stop you right there, Ari, because this is a good time to hear from Dan
Lanting himself.
Okay.
So Dan Lany is going to make some changes this week, he says.
So, producer, please play the first Dan Laning clip about the changes.
Dan, after going up for Saturday's game, are there any changes that you plan to make
on your staff as far as offensive play calling or office to blind?
Everything's being evaluated.
I wouldn't reveal anything that we would do different.
It doesn't give us any advantage from that standpoint.
but there's a lot of pieces.
It's really easy to point in one spot.
I'd say that.
I wear it, right?
Our whole staff wears it.
Our whole team wears it.
Every one of us has opportunities to improve.
But yeah, there's going to be some changes.
There's going to be some differences in the way that we operate and what we do.
And there already is and the way we've operated this week.
But as far as revealing, like, how we'll do that, what things will look like.
I'm not going to share that with you guys.
And he got a follow-up question about not sure.
sharing. Here's that.
It's falling up on what Zach was asking about first with operational changes and choosing not to reveal that.
Do you feel like you owe it to fans to have that level of transparency and what you guys are doing?
And then beyond that, what advantage does it provide you to not, you know, share that end's wrong?
No, I don't know it to anybody to reveal, you know, to reveal that.
And what advantage is it tells the other team what to prepare for.
You're on the right now?
Do you see it differently?
I was just going to follow up.
Yeah, go ahead.
It's the people who are in charge of what that I'm asking about.
Yeah, why would I tell you that?
My follow-up is how does that provide an advantage to the opponent?
You're able to look at the history of coach.
You're able to look, based on who the coach is, you're able to look at the history of the coach and say, okay, this is what they've done in the past.
This is maybe we're going to see this at a higher clip.
We're able to see this at a different level.
Again, I think it's more about us offensively, having a collaborative effort of us all walking out, having a really good detail plan.
There haven't been enough details.
It's not just one person.
It's not just Drew, right?
It's not just COA.
It's not just a leak, right?
A leak, you know, I've done my best to make sure I'm not on social media because I'm sure it's not a lot of positive on there.
That's the way it goes, right?
Either direction when it's good or when it's bad.
But it leaks the same coach that I know coached a Joe Moore Award finalist group the last three years, right?
So it's not that all of a sudden this guy can't coach, right?
It means we got to coach better.
We got to put our guys in really good situations to have success.
Drew's a guy that's had a lot of success, too.
Maybe not as a coordinator.
Definitely not as a coordinator.
We'll get to that when we get to our next phone call.
But, yeah, that's the biggest question, guys, is what changes will they make?
Drew Maher, the offensive coordinator.
It's not been great.
But it also would help if you had Dante Moore.
and don't think they're going to have Dante more this week.
So, George, what do you think happens?
Because Dylan Raola started and it was about as bad as a start's ever been for a quarterback.
Now his former team is coming.
And if there's anybody who knows his weaknesses, it's the Nebraska coaching staff.
Yes.
First of all, to address the clip, I don't even understand why the reporter couldn't understand that,
no, I'm not going to share with you.
Why would I share with you who is going to be calling plays or what the changes are?
That way you can write a story.
I do understand that we all got jobs to do and they want to ask the question.
Okay, ask it.
But I'm not answering that question for you, especially during a time like this.
I think Dan Lannning doesn't have to answer it because he has the equity.
There are some situations where coaches on in trouble, like in real trouble,
and he has to announce that he's strip play calling duties.
But Dan Laining's not there.
Like he has so much equity, he can do whatever he wants right now.
Yes, yes.
You have so much equity built up when you, when you've only lost a one single unranked team in five years.
And you've been to the college football player.
You've done all the things, right?
So, but the question, though, is, is the changes.
I believe I would be shocked.
I would be floored.
And I would probably be angry.
if Dylan Ryola went out there and took the first snap on Saturday.
Because of what we saw last game,
we saw Brock Thomas come in,
play extremely well in one quarter,
and then you're looking and you're like,
whoa, if he had been in since his halftime,
you're probably winning a football game, okay?
And then, and it's not that,
and I've seen so many people just absolutely torturing Riola, right?
is as the questions that were surrounding him when he left Nebraska.
All those are very, very real.
But even with all of those questions,
you couldn't even imagine that the floor was that low
for what we saw on Saturday.
That's the first thing.
And then the second thing is,
I do believe that there is a possibility.
There is a world that we see Achilles Smith Jr.
in the game on Saturday, too.
Wow. So, but the question that I have before the clips that I wanted to revisit is, and I know that we're very early, I'm not, I'm not coming at this as like from any sort of like fired Dan landing. Even if the season gets way worse, I'm not at fire Dan landing yet. So please don't take it that way.
Okay. But just because you are been highly successful and you have done a lot of the things that you mentioned, George, and you have a precedent of coaching.
who broke through in year five and six already in the small handful of people who have actually won
the national title.
That I don't think is a veil or a shield of criticism because it's two things are true here.
One, those two coaches that I like to lean on.
And I think Davos Sweeney also, Andy, you help me out with this.
It was like year five when they finally broke through, right?
Or year six, like it took him a minute once he became the head coach.
They won the ACC in 2012, which was his fourth full year as the head coach.
And then Florida State was the national champion in 13 and won the ACC in 14.
15 is when they really broke through and started their whole.
There were people who were disgruntled about Dabo, if I remember correctly,
in the early goings of his coaching tenure.
Two years in, yeah.
He had to fire Billy Napier as his OC.
He then had to fire Kevin Steele as his DC a year later.
So, yeah, there were rumbling.
Or two years later, but there were rumblings.
Well, the thing that I think is an important distinction that I failed to at least acknowledge this summer that I actually kind of regret looking back at it is that the coaches who broke through in year five and six broke through in year five and six.
And maybe less so Ryan Day because it happened in this era.
But those were old time, old college football building processes that don't necessarily exist right now.
So if you want to live in the Dan Lanning is in the year five and Steve Sarkeeson is in the year five, six conversations.
That's great.
But we have a coach who took over the worst program in college football with fewer resources than both of those schools that won the national title in year two.
So I don't think that the math on how long you get before you're.
All right.
Sorry.
You're conflating different things.
Kurtzignetti was not in year two.
He was in year two at Indiana.
He had been a coach for like 18 years.
Okay.
So you think that like the length of time of head coaching is what we're talking about here, not the particular.
time at the pro. What did you think we were talking about, Ari? Yeah.
Because yeah, big, big, that's why, that's why I said Sark, he's been a head coach for well
over a decade. When you're a new head coach, you have to learn lessons. Like even old head
coaches learn lessons. Sometimes you hire the wrong coordinator. Sometimes you, you overvalue what you,
what a position group, how they're going to develop, what you should spend in the transfer
portal, this and this. So there are so many lessons that have to be learned for first.
time head coaches. And this is why, like, when people point to the signetty thing,
like you just did, Ari, you can't imagine how many lessons that this dude learned,
making mistakes when he was at James Madison or at, or at Elon or IUP that nobody paid
attention to. Well, there is a big difference here, George, is that if you make a mistake
and when you learn your lessons in year five at IUP or whatever, think about how expensive
this mistake was for Dan Lanning. This is an expensive lesson to learn. Which, which is a big
Which mistake are we talking about? Are we talking about the O.C. hire?
We're talking about promoting from within and taking a roster that has been perhaps the best.
But I'll tell you, I'll tell you that the first time he had to hire an O.C., he knocked it out of the park.
So then what lesson are we referring to?
In his second time, he loses Kenny Gillian.
Like, he's hired.
So what lessons does he learn?
He hires Kenny Dillingham.
He loses Kenny Dillingham. He hires Will Stine.
So this is his second time hiring a new O.C. at Oregon.
So is it's a lesson or not?
We'll find out.
But let me give you a stat about,
let me give you a stat about Drew Marringer.
So Drew Marringer has been an OC one other time.
He was very young.
He was 28 years old.
He got hired as the OC at Rutgers in 2016.
Do you guys know how many FBS teams there were in 2016?
128, and they were basically 128 or 127.
Damn, near every statistical category.
They were dead last in yards per play, 128.
Yeah, it was 10.
terrible. Now, sure, he's probably learned some stuff since then, but I think we can all agree.
The offense he runs doesn't look like the offense will. Yeah, I just, I don't know, and maybe I'm off on this.
So, because I like landing. I think he's one of the best, brightest young coaches in the sport and what he's done.
I love the hire and I love what he's done there. So just, maybe I'm even playing devil's advocate a little kid bit.
But don't you think with the money that's at stake in the amount of players that Oregon has on its roster that are going to be playing long,
NFL Sundays that the mistakes that you make in 2025 and 2026 and beyond don't hit the same way as
maybe the mistakes that Davos-Sweeney made in year three or the mistakes that Ryan Day made in year two.
Like, I think that you are in a place where there is a tremendous amount of investment,
both in the roster, in the staff, in the resources that Oregon has to be losing to Oklahoma
State and UCLA in year five.
Like, and I think it's okay to, I think it's okay to acknowledge that's not okay.
Yeah, it's okay to acknowledge that, but you, but you also have to consistently lean on what has history told you. History told you that he's hired well, right?
Even Nick Saban hired. How was everybody talking about the Bill O'Brien offense over there at, over there in Alabama?
And Nick Saban was a multi-national championship head coach. So Oregon's biggest crime this year, if we're being honest, their biggest crime this year.
If we're being honest, their biggest crime this year was the offensive line,
the development of the offensive line and where they are at right now.
That is the biggest issue.
So honestly, it is hard to, yes, I do believe in the past game.
Maringer has to be better.
There's not enough scheming people open and some, and like it's,
and the offense has not looked cohesive.
It hasn't looked like there's an identity where you're saying,
here's what we do well.
And no matter what, we can go to that.
But here is where, and that's where the biggest mistake was of this whole thing,
because it's actually very difficult to gauge how good or bad Marringer has been
because the offensive line has been bad.
So now there, when I turned on the all 22 tape from the UCLA game,
there are at least three plays that would have been 50 plus.
yard touchdowns if one blocker does not make a mistake if he doesn't get pushed
pushed back into the running back's lap and he's got to cut back the other way or something
like that hat on a hat everybody else when that's what happens when you're turning on this
Oregon film particularly in the run game you're saying oh oh my god oh my god that play
looks so good and then all of a sudden it doesn't because one player just gets and it's
not just one player it would be perfect if it were the right tackle alone
Because if it's the right tackle, now of a sudden we can scheme around this.
And if the coordinator can't scheme around it, you know he's the problem.
And but the problem is, one play is the right tackle.
Two plays later, it's the left tackle.
Three plays later, it's the right guard.
Four plays later, it's the left guard.
Then it's the center.
Sometimes it's the tight end.
You're just like, God, can we just all just get a hat on a hat?
You don't even have to just win and dominate.
Just don't do something poor.
That's the issue.
with this offense.
And people are screaming,
fire Drew Marringer, fire Drew Marringer.
Okay, if you fire Drew Marringer,
who's going to take it in place?
Yes, who's going to come to place?
Yes.
And maybe that's the lesson, too,
is that in this day and age in college football,
we all need an analyst around,
or at least a backup option.
And then check this out.
Check this out.
I haven't floated this anywhere yet.
Do you guys believe what's going to happen at Florida State after this Miami game if they lose?
Eventually, they're going to make a change.
And Tom Herman's on the staff.
I know.
O'Dell Hagan's been their interim coach twice, so he could do that too.
But yeah, Tom Herman is probably the one you go with.
So the question, though, is Mike Norvell, if he leaves, who is he first?
friends with?
He's friends with Dan Lannning.
Very good friends.
Has he been a successful
he sure has?
If something does happen,
if the offense doesn't pick up
and all of that stuff,
that's a move I can potentially see happen.
Oh, listen,
that could happen by the end of this year.
Oh my God.
I don't think you're allowed to do that, are you?
You are.
You can.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And Florida State might be like,
hey, there's offset language
in your contract.
Oregon, please pay him a lot of money.
I am here for Mike Morvel.
This is a great idea.
It would be an analyst.
I am 100% here for Mike Norvell
being the offense coordinator for Oregon
and the CFP this year.
It actually could happen.
I'm not kidding.
Like it could happen.
Okay.
We have a lot more to talk about it.
We've gotten George wound up.
We've battered his alma mater enough.
We're going to reward him with some Washington
tiers next.
But first, Dan Lannning and Will Stein were a great dynamic duo.
Will Stein, now the head coach of Kentucky, has his own dynamic duo.
Ari, there is no better dynamic duo than Jack and Coke,
but there's a pretty good one playing in Lexington, Kentucky right now,
and they are actually headed to Norman this weekend to play Oklahoma.
Kenny Menchy and Kenny Darby.
Kenny and Kenny.
One's a quarterback, one's a receiver.
and they are lighting it up together.
And Ari, I think they're going to be critically important in this game against Oklahoma.
Yeah.
Kenny and Kenny bringing Kentucky into the national championship discussion,
into the playoff discussion.
What is Kenny and Kenny?
That's a pretty good duo.
It's been really fun to watch them.
It's been really great to see that Will Stein had, you know,
put his candidacy in for the annual Kurt Signetti Award,
you know, for the first year head coaches who turn their programs around immediately.
but he wouldn't have been able to do it without those two guys.
Those two guys have been sensational for Kentucky's offense.
Yeah, and Kenny Darby's a freshman from Louisiana
and really a dynamic pass catcher who if he catches the ball in space,
there's a play against LSU.
And you kind of see two things there where he sort of snatches the ball
before a DB can get near him and then somehow gets away from that DB,
gets close to the goal line and just drags like four tacklers for three yards.
It was an incredible throw, catch, and run.
And then Kenny Menci, of course, he's just made all the right decisions.
He's not making mistakes.
That critical play at the end of the game against LSU, where they walked it off with
the two-point conversion, he called his own number to run it in.
It was actually a called pass play, but he saw that the, you know, basically the Red Sea opened up
and he decided, I'm going to run this thing in and win this game.
Just an incredible, incredible duo.
and Kenny Darby after the game.
I mean, these moves, you see why he can't be tackled.
Yeah, you have to have a tremendous amount of athleticism to move like that,
both on the dance floor and on the football field.
And kudos to Will Stein for fighting Kenny Minchie.
I know there wasn't a lot of film on him, Andy.
And, you know, the film that they did see they put into a position where they knew he would perform
and he's done that so far, especially in overtime the last two games.
Well, and the thing is I think they're going to have to be really important against Oklahoma,
because Oklahoma is probably not going to let Kentucky just chew them up on the ground.
CJ Baxter's in a great job for Kentucky this year,
but I think he's probably going to be limited a little bit by Oklahoma's defense.
They're going to have to win this game through the air,
and the way you do that is if Kenny and Kenny are connecting.
So good luck to the Kenny and Kenny connection in Norman this week.
If you are watching a game or tailgating or getting ready,
for a game. Make sure you've got a lot of Jack and Coke in your cooler because it's the perfect
combination mixed perfectly. It's already right there for you. The most dynamic duo in college
football is Jack and Coke. We are back. We're going to give the Andy and Ari on 3 hotline a break,
but we have more of your calls coming. This one is just a coach at a press conference who
sounds like he's calling the Indiana on 3 hotline.
Here's Jeff Fish from Washington earlier this week.
Right now, I mean, it's public knowledge that our roster is not very high on the cost scale.
So we have to find a way if this protect college sports act passes and we're able to have an influx of money to be able to have retention.
That will help Washington a lot because that will have to come from the university.
side. Our third part of dollars aren't there. So we have to find a way, last year we had seven
guys drafted. Replace the seven guys drafted, we needed to use our freshmen because we didn't
have the finances to go replace them through the portal. So because of that, we now need our
freshmen, our sophomores, to stay. Okay. So Washington has lost three in row. They lost
to Minnesota at home, which
budget-wise, Minnesota is not really that different
from them. They lost to USC, which has a
much higher budget than them. They lost
to Iowa, which I
think has a slightly higher budget than them
in terms of player roster, or, you know,
player payroll.
Boys, they're going to Purdue
on Friday.
Purdue,
which is suddenly
won two big 10 games for the first time in forever,
is a three and a half
point favorite.
But you cannot complain
about roster spend and lose to Purdue.
You can't do it.
You can't do it.
This brings me no joy.
And I mean this seriously,
because I like Jetfish.
And there's a lot of people in sports media,
and you guys know that try to pretend
like they're impartial,
like they've got no rooting interest.
Yes, I got a damn Oregon helmet
in the back logo.
I played there.
Of course, I love Oregon.
But I'm also going to tell the truth.
and and I'm telling the truth, even though I like Jed, Jed Fish,
he is not doing a good enough job coaching his team right now.
It is not where you want it to be.
And blaming the NIL dollars, blaming anything, it's a bad look.
Honestly, it's a horrible look because of what you mentioned,
the Minnesota, Purdue, and then, and what you're putting on film is not it.
my biggest concern for Washington coming into this season
was the Demand Williams situation.
So he signed for $4 million.
And then a couple days later, he's like, no, I'm hopping in the portal.
Washington, the best thing that they could have done at that moment is do what Duke did.
Fight it, get a buyout, get some money, and move on.
Because the issue is, in life, regardless whether it's college football,
or anything else.
You do not want hostages.
And DeMond Williams was a hostage.
And after everything that that fan base called him,
they called him everything but a child of God,
there was no way it was going to be repaired,
just like it can't be repaired at USC after the crowd is screaming,
fire Lincoln.
You can put Band-Aid on it.
You can put lipstick on a pig.
You can do whatever you want to do,
but it is not,
that was never going to work.
Because as soon as he had a bad game or struggled a little bit,
the comments were going to start.
He would start getting stuff on his Instagram and this and that.
There was going to be stuff with the team.
And you can see, DeMond Williams, he is not even playing as good as he was last year.
It looks like he's regressed.
So now you've put yourself in a bad situation.
And you can't after a loss go up there and say, oh, man, it's because of the NIL budget and this and this.
You do that after wins.
And you can't make the excuse.
when other teams that you've lost to have a smaller budget.
And we have also seen plenty of smaller budgets win a lot of games.
Like you said, Kurt Signetti over there at Indiana.
He's won a lot of games with a teeny tiny budget.
So it's not that, and the crazy part,
it's not even like Washington is awful.
This season feels like an outlier from the previous ones that we've seen from there.
So Washington has a choice.
They're either going to be patient and say,
listen, let's fix these things, this, this and this, and give Jed another shot.
Let's give him a chance to retool this roster, give him some resources,
or you can jump back on the quarterback and head coach Express,
and maybe Tommy Reese will go there.
We're going to get Tommy Reese hired somewhere.
Yeah, I mean, what you said,
George is true about Washington not being terrible overall,
but they're terrible right now.
That was really hard to watch on Friday night.
Yes, it was brutal.
It was brutal.
It was.
And honestly,
I started thinking that the Utah State game.
When they escaped against Utah State,
I was like,
oh, God,
they got problems on their hands.
This is a team that likely ain't going to a bowl game,
unless something,
something changes.
And then against USC,
I mean, good God.
They, USC handed them the game.
USC actually quit during the game.
And then the DeMa Williams fumble six.
That just, that sparked life back into, to USC.
If they don't fumble that game away, we're having a, this conversation right now is not about Jed Fish.
This conversation right now is about Lincoln Riley.
Well, Jed Fish never says what he says if that doesn't happen because,
he beat a team with a massive budget.
And he can be like, well, look at what we're doing here.
This is a great reason to give us a little more next year.
Do you know what I think is kind of funny?
And I don't know, maybe it's because I, like, have a background going to Arizona.
But, you know, you left Arizona to go to a Big Ten team.
And I understood the move, right?
Like, Washington is without question a better job than Arizona, right?
But when you look down south of Tucson and what's going on there,
They've got a team this year, guys.
I don't know if you've realized that because it's not.
They're on.
They're on.
They're pretty good.
Yeah.
Like.
And if Nova Feet have played at Washington, what would that look like?
Oh, they'd still play for Jed Fish.
But, you know, if we're saying that.
And I know Arizona has its own inherent challenges financially too.
So I'm not acting like he made a mistake going.
But I do look back at thinking about where Jed Fish was after his second year in Tucson,
the way that he was perceived.
And I think that Jed Fish, too,
probably, you know, has or had in his past designs of having one of the traditional power
jobs. I do wonder if he thinks back to himself now of like doing this was the right move for his
career because if you're in the middle of your third year at Washington complaining about your
lack of financial resources, I mean, that's not going to age well for you. So I wonder if a true
serum moment there like if he thought maybe, you know, if he would have stayed in Arizona,
he could be the head coach of Florida right now for all we know.
Okay.
That could be true, right?
He could be the head coach of Florida because he would have had T-Mack,
Terahua McMillan, and Fafita for another year.
You are right.
He could potentially be at Florida now.
But here's the issue.
He was doing a new contract at Arizona.
The money wasn't there.
And the thing that people like fans sometimes miss about coaches taking new jobs is this.
Jetfish more than.
doubled his Arizona salary more than doubled.
It was what made making like $3 million.
He's damn near at nine now.
And that it's not just Jed's money.
Because Jed is a lifelong struggling assistant who had like you,
you got to think about his lifelong struggling assistant.
Somebody offers you a bag.
You want to stay where you're at.
It's like three times your salary almost.
And it's not just him and his family security.
It is all the assistant coaches.
The assistant coaches who have been with him at Arizona.
Imagine if he turns that job down and he looks at Scotty Graham
or he looks at Donahoo who's not there anymore and says,
hey guys, I turn down.
Yes, yes, I turn down the job.
And I know that you're making, you know, 300,000 here at Arizona.
And you could be on a three year,
you're on a three year million dollar deal here at Arizona.
but yes, I turned down a deal that would have paid you two and a half million dollars over the next three years.
Yeah.
I turned that down.
It's kind of the coaching equivalent of whether a player should just take the biggest NIL bag to go to the biggest place payer or whether you should go to a place that's going to get you ready for the NFL.
You know, because.
There's a sliding scale.
Like there is like there's a big difference in telling yourself, all right, I'm making $3 million now.
they're going to pay me nine.
And it's also a place that just played in the national championship the year before.
Right.
And so things are rolling there.
There's excitement, all of that.
It's a good job on the West Coast.
It is geographically semi-desirable for you.
And you're like, man, this is a place I can probably make a home.
And they want to pay me.
That means they respect me.
I can get assistant coaches.
I can get resources.
I get all of these things.
That's what you're thinking when you take that job.
Yeah, I don't think that I'm like,
I disagree with the fact that he should have taken it when he did.
I was making more of a comment of like if he could go back in time.
But I don't, I think, I don't know if you would though.
Yeah.
You still want to take the Big Ten job and try it.
Like, even though there's a volcano there, even though there's a volcano.
There's an active volcano.
Did you know that, George?
Yes.
It's, well, Mount St. Helens.
I think it's Mount Rainier.
Mount Rainier also could potentially erupt.
We've asked yet about it.
He's not worried about it.
It's active, though.
I don't know what it means, but it's active.
He is worried about the budget, though.
And listen, we'll put a pin in this.
We're going to probably talk about this Friday if they don't win.
Because Purdue's budget is probably not bigger than theirs.
If they can't beat Purdue, we have to have a conversation.
I do think that he aired in making it a budget.
budgetary discussion though.
I don't think you should decide that.
Well, and here's the other part.
When he made it a budgetary discussion.
Yeah.
Here's the other part.
When have that Jed Fish's teams at Washington,
they're much like USC and Lincoln Raleys.
When have they gone on the road and played well?
Right.
They were pretty unbeatable at home.
Ohio State had been the only Big Ten team that had beaten them at home.
And then this year happened and they've lost to Minnesota and Iowa at home now.
So yeah, it's a bad situation.
They need to go to Ross State Stadium and win.
West Lafayette has not been a house of horrors,
except that one time for Ohio State.
But it could potentially be for Washington on Friday.
They need to play their best game of the season.
Gentlemen, before we move on to some more voicemails,
and there's some doozies in here,
I point out that lovely, lovely hoodie that George is wearing.
It is a rowback hezzy hoodie.
It is the most comfortable dynamic garment in the world.
I have right here in my hot little hands the Texas version, the Longhorns version of the Hezzy hoodie.
Look at that.
You can get your team's Hezzy hoodie.
You can get a beautiful solid like George is wearing or like you see Ari and I wearing on the show all the time at roback.com.
R-H-O-B-A-C-K.com.
They've got all the gear for your team, whether it's a hoodie, a polo, a Q-Zip, but also,
all the gear for your everyday life as well.
Hoodies, polos, cues, ques, shorts, joggers, you name it.
Use the code Andy RE20.
That's A-N-D-Y-A-R-I-2-0 for 20% off your first order.
Rowback.com.
R-H-O-B-A-C-K.com.
The code is Andy RE20.
All right.
Very quickly, I have a great voicemail that I just,
George, you weren't here at my house last weekend.
We went and covered the Florida game.
and then we came home
and we're watching the afternoon
window games and obviously everybody's locked in
on Red River, except Producer
River, who of course is locked
in on his Tennessee balls playing at Arkansas
barely survived. The most overrated team
in college football right now. Oh,
come on.
Producer Ram's putting his hands through his hair because he was
nervy.
Dude, Tennessee is the most
overrated and overranked
team in college football right now.
Them,
from LSU
and right now
and excuse me
and BYU based upon
what they have done so far
but they get a chance to
to prove something
on Saturday versus Notre Dame.
Tennessee, they can run the
they can run the football with
Bishop and Bishop alone
and they can, they play some decent
defense. Their quarterback
situations is shambles.
You can't win like that.
Tennessee's beating nobody.
So Patrick the Tennessee fan may agree with you.
Hey, Andy and Ari.
This is Patrick Miley.
I'm a big time volunteer fan like Prodista River.
I just cannot believe that ending today, Tennessee, Arkansas game.
I was so worried.
Anyway, I didn't get to the real P-word if y'all know what I mean.
Anyway, thanks.
So we have a bit on the show, George, where we talk about the P-word and the B-word.
The P word is playoff.
I don't think he's talking about playoff when he says the P word.
I think that's what he means.
No, man.
Listen, I put this game as my, this Tennessee, Alabama game is my sickos game of the week.
And there's a week, there's a game every week that I label a sickos game because you have to be a sicko,
a college football sickle if you want to watch this.
Do you understand what Alabama?
is going to do to Tennessee, they are going to
rip Tennessee to shreds.
And the problem is,
is that there's a better game
in a potentially
better game in Old Miss
and Missouri that they could have put
on ABC or ESPN
instead of putting it on
SEC Network and putting this
bloodbath on there. This is going to
be a disaster, man. I understand that this is a
robbery game, the cigars. Nobody even knew
outside of the SEC that this was even a rivalry game until a few years ago.
That, oh, it's got to be the third October, third weekend in October.
Listen, this is going to be a disaster and epic.
If they lose my left in three touchdowns, I will be shocked.
I'm laughing.
Get up here.
Get up here, producer.
Four boxes sucker.
Let's see it.
Dude,
I was a sickos game when Keelan Russell's playing and it's in Knoxville.
I don't know what's a sicko's game.
My God.
Western is playing Michigan State this weekend.
I mean, like, there's other games that you could be morbidly interested in.
No, no, no, no.
No, you have to be a sicko to watch that game instead of Ole Miss Missouri
or anything else that's in that window.
That's why you have to be a sicko.
He'll be watching it.
Do you agree with anything that he's saying, River?
The quarterback situation's tough.
Hey, Faison Brandon practice Tuesday.
Faison Brandon practiced.
Hey, don't sleep on the defense, George.
Do not sleep on the defense.
No, the defense is good.
But I, but I highly doubt that Keelan Russell pulls in Arch Manning
because you're going to have to have Keel and Russell do what Archmanning did
in the fourth quarter versus Oklahoma to win this football game.
And I highly doubt that that happens.
What's hilarious is.
I'm glad you mentioned Arch Manning, George,
because our next call is from Chris the disgruntled Texas fan.
Hey, Andy, hey Ari.
I'm Chris calling as a disgruntled Texas fan currently taking a long walk after that horrendous showing.
I really, it really sucks to, it really sucks.
to, it really sucks to be a longtime Longhorn fan and having grown up with my first depiction
being the Vince Young Colt McCoy era for it to be so downhill for so long and then to have
them come back and do what they've done the last few years. Really the last like, really since
Sark's been there. And he just,
it's just really frustrating to go through every year it feels like where you have good things going.
You see potential in a team or, you know, things are going right in the season just for the team to kind of throw themselves under the bus and just absolutely ruin their season for themselves.
Credit to OU.
I'm not going to take away a win that they earned.
They deserve to win.
I know a lot of people will say that probably taste sour coming from a U.C. fan, from a long-time U.T. fan.
I've always had respect for Oklahoma fans, good or bad.
And so credit to them.
But at the same time, it's like you had every opportunity to,
win that game, you were ahead, 17-7-5.
You allowed them to just outright beat you.
And this is not a good OU team.
So what does that make you, this team, right?
Like, yeah, they beat Ohio State in one quarter,
but are we really sure that they're that good?
I know they have a lot of talent on that team.
I know there's a lot going on with this team that is good potential.
but like does it not feel like there's this massive disconnect between like maybe the players and the coaches or Sark and his team?
It's just very frustrating to continuously have to go through this kind of crap.
And I don't know, man.
It's just really frustrating.
It's demoralizing.
It makes you resent after a long time of this.
Texas has one loss, has a win against Ohio State,
and might still make the college football playoff,
but you would not know that.
But then that made me laugh, though,
was that he's going, yeah, we did beat Ohio State for a quarter.
It's like, well, you won the game.
I mean, like that, you don't just get a quarter of a victory there.
You beat Ohio State, your season's not over,
but I also understand that, and I know that some fans do this,
and some don't, and I applaud the fans that do.
And this is something that I,
I think, you know, I learned when I was covering Ohio State and I've come to learn nationally
about, you know, fan bases like Alabama, Georgia, is that, yes, regular season wins are important.
And yes, Texas's win over Ohio State is probably going to buoy a resume that ultimately
puts them in the CFP.
But when you watch Texas play on the weekends, you are playing two games.
One, you're playing the game against the team that's on the other sideline.
But the other game you're playing is, did what we put on the feet?
today measure up to what we would need to put on the field at the end of the year to win
playoff games.
So from that standpoint, if you're watching Texas the last few weeks, you know that they're
winning and you know that they're probably going to make the playoff and you know that
things are doing okay.
Yeah, I think they're going to make the playoff, George.
I think, you know, with what they have on their resume.
I know they're going to win this weekend against my mom by the way, update on that.
Florida quarterback Aaron Philo
banged up
coming out of the South Carolina game
did practice Wednesday
unclear whether he will start
could be Tremel Jones
which a lot of the Florida fans
have wanted to see what Tremel Jones
would look like at the starter.
So starting him against
maybe the best defense of the country
I guess would be a test.
Yeah.
You get your answer.
To put a bow on what I was saying,
though, is that he's mourning
not that the season is over
from the sense that they're done competing to be in the
playoff. I think they're mourning, well,
if this is who we are, we're not winning it this year
when they came into the season expecting to win it.
And I think that that's the difference that most people don't delineate.
I think that that's a flawed way to look at things now.
I think that your premise is right, Ari.
Yeah, the premise is right.
Yeah.
I think that the way that people are looking at it is wrong.
And it's similar to the Oregon situation and other fan bases right now
outside of Alabama, really in Georgia, right?
Which is their fans are saying, we are flawed.
We can't win.
That's old college football brain thinking.
There is no team outside of, I mean, hell, even Georgia right now,
who's the number one team in the nation right now,
that doesn't look like that they can be beat.
Everybody's got flaws.
Everybody's got warts.
Nobody is playing.
And the point is that in this era of college football,
you just got to survive, dude.
You got to survive through the regular season
and then be playing your best when you get into the tournament
because rosters are less deep.
There's less time for, because of the portal and all of that,
there's less time for teams to jail, the cohesiveness.
They're learning as they're going along, kind of like pro teams.
And you just got to be playing your best at the end.
And fans got to learn that that style point are no longer important.
they don't matter at all anymore.
You just got to find a way to survive your schedule and get wins.
And the rest of this Texas schedule, yes.
Who knows what happens if the 2019 LSU team shows up this weekend?
Oh, boy.
Oh, man, man.
Oh, I think Missouri beat all the 2019 LSU out of them.
And if they did South Carolina did.
Yeah. What happens if L.S.
If Ole Miss the week after, if they can all of a sudden tackle somebody because they're one of the worst tackling teams in the league, what happens if Missouri is actually really, really good?
And then LSU has enough talent to beat you. They got enough talent to beat you despite how they're playing.
In Texas A&M, no matter how bad the season goes for them, they will be.
some kind of way inspired to play that football game.
To me, the biggest question about this Texas team surrounds their head coach Sark.
And this is for you guys too.
Sark has now had two five star quarterbacks in Arch Manning.
Well, actually, he's had more at other places, but since he's been at Texas, two five stars,
Quinn Ewers was one of the highest rated recruits in the history of recruiting data.
And, and Arch, we already know, he was the consensus.
number one recruiting the nation.
How is that gone?
Because he was supposed to be generational,
all of this stuff. And so is Ewers.
Has,
has,
has Arch even been better than,
than Ewers? Because I go,
I'm a message board,
like, reader. I go on there
to gauge the temperatures of fan bases
and everything else.
After Texas has lost to Oklahoma to,
it was a cesspool.
I know that that's a,
Texas band number word right now.
You are the buzzwords today, George.
It was the cesspool.
And no, I'm not talking about you, Texas AX fans.
I would never say that about you.
Wise.
But that's just the reality, man, is that it was a disaster.
They're talking about we arch better be out of here for next year.
And we propped them up.
It's daddy ball and all of this.
It is rough around the streets right now.
So for all the.
And then.
And then Sark came out this week, and he made one of the silliest comments, I couldn't understand it,
where he said that if Arch's name was Joe Smith, that we would be saying he was doing a good job.
Yes, if he was at Appalachian State, but that's not the standard at Texas.
Like he, even though he's been solid at times, there's nothing that we've seen that has been generational.
Jeremiah Smith is generational.
We've seen a bunch of Arches before.
We've seen a bunch of,
we've seen a bunch of Malachi Tonys.
We've seen like the word generational got thrown around too much.
And his defense of Arch, granted,
the season's not over with their five and one.
He wants to keep his confidence and everything else.
But the truth is,
Arch has benefited a lot from his last name being Manning.
There's a reason why he's got so much N IL money,
why he's even had the rope that he has had.
Because after last year, there's a lot of places that would have been like,
maybe we should have a quarterback competition.
Well, I don't think they're going to have one right now.
But I do think the schedule gets pretty treacherous after Florida.
I don't think the Ole Miss game version of Florida is showing up this week.
But afterward, Ole Miss, if Camaro Taylor is playing for Mississippi,
state, they're dangerous. Missouri looks extremely dangerous and you got to go there. As you said,
LSU was talented enough to beat him and you got to go there. So this is a pretty interesting
tight, tight rope that Texas has to walk here. And I think that's probably where the fans are
coming to the disconnect, they're feeling is they thought this roster because they patched
what they thought were the holes on the roster. They didn't have a true wide receiver once. They
went out and got Cam Coleman.
You know, they beefed up that defense with Biles.
They fixed the running back room, allegedly, with Relic Brown and Hollywood Smothers.
And by the way, C.J. Baxter, who was one of the salary cap casualties, has more rushing
yards than those two combined.
So that's, I think, where the disconnect that our Texas fan caller was talking about comes
into play.
Like, they thought this was going to be easier.
They thought this, but it's, it's, it's.
what you said, George, it ain't easy for anybody who wants to win the national title,
who really truly wants to get for the national title.
It ain't easy.
And it won't be easy to get there if you're Texas.
Like, you're going to have some more bumps and bruises along the way.
You could have another loss.
You could still make the playoff.
You could still win the national title.
But it is not going to be easy.
Do you believe that those are still realities as possibilities with Archie at quarterback?
With that defense?
I believe anything is possible.
That defense is awesome.
Because you don't need him to be a superhero.
You just need him to not be a liability in big moments.
Yeah.
And I believe that, I mean, and he showed in the Ohio State game
that he cannot be a liability.
He can actually be an asset in big moments.
So it is going to be basically how he's playing when the playoff comes,
if they make the playoff.
And the crazy part is, is remember one of my hot takes at the beginning of the season or one of my, one of my bowl takes was that the loser of the Texas Ohio State game would miss the playoff.
There is a world where they both missed the playoff, which is crazy.
And it feels wild right now.
But there really is because there's a lot of meat left on this schedule.
And this is also why a lot of coaches want to go to 24 teams.
because they do understand how volatile that that roster building and winning is and all of that stuff.
But the thing that they're not estimating is that the only thing that's going to happen is that the goalpost is then going to move from make the playoffs to,
you know, he's not winning any playoff games.
He keeps getting getting there and not and not winning.
So get him up out of here.
But it wasn't even make the playoff for Texas this year.
It was go deep in the playoff.
Yeah.
win the whole thing. So that's, that's, that's, that's the part that I think the fans are wrestling
with. But again, you're, you're wrestling with it four days after the loss. You're probably
going to feel better on Sunday. I say that as a, as a proud University of Florida graduate,
you're probably, probably going to feel better on Sunday. Yeah, I know, I know we're 40 an hour
into that. How are you feeling right now, Andy?
Uh, not, it's not super confident. Not confident. They've been found out. They're banged up.
Probably get in the car.
The weaknesses have been exposed.
There's no papering over them.
John Somerall said it.
He's like, the guys that are playing in the secondary,
the ones that are playing the best of practice.
There's no, no cavalry's right now.
That's never a good time.
When coaches say that, that's never a good sign.
And the people who are going to play on Saturday,
the people who practice the best.
That means that we're actively,
that means that you're not doing the peak carroll,
you know, where every week's a competition.
thing.
Right.
No, that means that we have specifically opened things up and, hey, hey, hey, free for
all.
Whoever shows the best.
This is, this is what we got.
Yeah, this is what we got.
So, yeah, and especially like when you're going to, when, when you're not running the
ball well and you have to play against that defense, that Texas defense.
It is, and that's, that's why why I don't believe, while I don't believe in the Texas
offense as currently constructed and assembled and called.
that defense makes up for everything and can make up for everything.
Yeah, I mean, I think you can make the case that Colin Simmons is one of the three best players in the entire sport.
So I would agree with that.
All right, guys, we got two more phone calls to get to.
I'm playing them back to back for a reason.
George, you've not heard from Kyle, the Oklahoma State fan yet.
You're going to love him.
But Jared, the Oklahoma fan is going to provide some competition first.
Here's Jared.
Andy, this is Jared and Tulsa, a sooner fan for my whole life.
I'm wearing my rowback OU polo.
Before the game, I was trying to look at which head coach we could hire,
but my son Camden told me to believe.
My pull is green.
I'm out of bourbon.
So my OSU buddy down in Houston may have to let me borrow his pool,
but I may jump in that thing and celebrate anyway tonight.
I don't know how we pulled that off.
We needed a touchdown from all three phases of the game.
Venable's defense is amazing.
I'm a believer in our offensive coordinator.
I'm a believer in John Mateer.
Somehow we're hard to kill.
Many men have tried, but I think we may just win these last seven games.
I'm not sure if that's going to happen or not, but I want to believe.
I'm still trying to figure out, but Tate Sandell needs to wear that gold half.
to bed tonight and for the next week straight.
Cam, what do you have to say, buddy?
Boomer. Boomer.
Boomer.
Texas.
Jared and Tulsa out.
I love Jared and Tulsa down.
I audibly gasped when he said went out, by the way.
I don't know if you were out.
Listen, he wants to believe.
This was recorded in the hours following Red River.
He wants to believe.
He said he believes in the office.
offensive coordinator. He believes in John Matteer. I guarantee you he wasn't saying that after the
Georgia game. But I think that in fairness, that's what Brent Aventibals wants his fans to feel.
You couldn't believe in the offense after the Texas game. You don't have to. Special teams
in defense will provide. What is this? They will provide. Look at out. Look at the hat.
This is the 2000 Ravens where were you going to win five games without scoring the
offensive touchdown? I mean, Owen
Heineke, Ray Lewis. I mean, who knows?
Who knows? Well, it'd be more
Kip Lewis and Ray Lewis. But there
you go. Not
to be outdone, though,
because Oklahoma State,
they won again, too.
For the third consecutive week,
we close with Kyle.
Andy, Ari River.
Man,
college football. Is there anything
better? Hey, Kyle, Oklahoma State fan.
I told my three boys earlier.
I said, I don't know if there's anything better in college football today,
other than maybe a Jack and Coke that's mixed together in a can, right?
Roback, Hezzie hoodie, game time, quince, let's go all day long, let's do it.
Oklahoma State was pretty nervous up until the halftime, wasn't sure how this call was going to go.
Thought it might go the other way.
Fortunately, Drew, Wyatt, Caleb, and we came out, we showed out.
UCF.
Did we show out UCF?
I think we showed out, but it's also UCF.
But me in college football.
OU, Texas, Vinnables, Meteer.
What do we think about Meteer?
And it's fun to be an Oklahoma fan, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State.
I was born and raised to hate OU, would they be Texas?
That's a rough one.
That's a tough one.
That's the best one.
I don't know what to say.
Also, the Aggie Tears.
Grab a life jacket.
Grab a floaty.
Those Aggie tiers are tough.
Sorry, Prarishina said that.
That might not make the pod.
Rutrow, you guys are the best.
You guys are awesome.
Go pokes.
Get U of H.
I think you have H.
We can beat them.
I think.
Let's see what we can do.
I need to see a little more from Drew.
Our defense was the struggle bus today.
Our defense was the one that I was pretty confident in.
And the third downs, that's where we struggled.
The defense was the one that led us down today.
That made me a little bit nervous.
Anyways, bourbon in the pool, still doing it.
We'll always do it.
I don't care if it's 40 degrees.
or if it's 80 degrees, or if it's 90 degrees.
Bourbon in the pool is the best thing.
Ari, again, you're always invited.
Texas friends, Andy River, you can come anytime.
Just let me know.
You guys are the best.
Thank you for what you do to your bodies.
You're the best.
So, Kyle lives in suburban Houston.
His pokes are headed to Houston.
They are underdogs.
When Oklahoma State wins,
Kyle gets in the pool and drinks bourbon
And he calls us
Are we getting a call from Kyle this weekend?
Yes,ish.
Yes, yes, yes.
I will, okay.
Yes, but part of me hopes not, okay?
Okay, you want to see Willie Fritz playing for the big 12th title?
You know why?
He wants Oklahoma State to look awesome
So Oregon lost doesn't look as bad.
No, no, no, no, no.
Oh, okay.
See, look, see, look, you went the homer route.
See, look.
Yeah, that's what I thought you were going to say.
No, see, this is why I'm college football's truth teller because I got to make you understand this, Ari.
I want, I love what Oklahoma State is doing, right?
But here is the problem.
If you had told Oklahoma State fans at the beginning of this year,
Eric Morris will go seven and five, you will be much improved.
Drew Mestermaker will look good.
all of this stuff, what would they have said?
We will take it.
Sounds good. Yeah, yeah.
They would have said after what's been going on, sign us up for seven and five.
The problem is, is that now that they're ranked 18th and they've been winning games and all this stuff,
expectations go through the roof.
Just like it did at Florida, where like expectations start going crazy.
So I just believe that for the health and everything of the fan base that like you,
don't necessarily want to go 10 and 2 this year.
Like, like, yes, if you turn out and have a Kurt Signetti year the next year,
but the, but the issue is that sometimes, like, in the middle of something,
expectations can rise to an unrealistic level.
And now you find a way to find disappointment in what is overall a, like,
like something that you would have wished for.
If Oklahoma State finishes 8 and 4 this year, Oklahoma State fans,
they'll be like, I mean, it was a good year.
It was solid.
Like we can build on that.
I wish we had done this and this and this.
You don't have a roster to win a national championship.
Eight and four, if you had told you that before the season,
you would have jumped out the window, jumped in the pool,
and had all the bourbon that you could handle.
But now the season goes on, these unrealistic expectations start to creep in.
And then you'll start saying, oh, man, Eric Morris,
he got to start fixing some things.
I mean, Hawkins, can we do better at running back?
Can we do better a little better than Drew Mestamaker?
Like, we just need a guy.
We need a new wide receiver, this, this, and this.
It's the expectations that cause the problems.
And so I want Oklahoma State to have a great season.
Yes, Ari, that would be nice to keep propping Oregon's loss up.
However, I'm talking about strictly for Oklahoma State fans and their own personal health,
it is you do want to pump the brakes just a little bit and you don't want to go to a rank team if it's got to be anybody at least let it be Houston and like a one two point loss or something
Kyle's going to drink bourbon in this pool winner lose I think I think I've learned that much about Kyle over these last few weeks so I I think he's just like look I don't I don't care but don't worry about my mental health let's keep on winning I tell you what every time
college football's truth teller
George Reister shows up, we win.
Every time you call
the Andy and R a hotline,
we win. 615-378-8-8-78.
Just, you know, as soon as that game ends,
no matter what you're feeling, no matter how drunk you are,
call that number.

We will play it on the show next week.

It's been a pleasure.
We'll see you guys.
