All right, and we're live.
Andy Frasco's World Saving Podcast.
I'm Andy Frasco.
How's your heads?
How's your minds?
Are you staying out of trouble in the fucking craziest city in America,
Charleston, South Carolina?
Jesus Christ.
I have my friend Laura here with us.
She was, we've been shooting a music video for Little Stranger,
and she was one of the guests on the music video that we got a little bit of heat for.
Maybe we can explain the situation a hair,
because it's my podcast and I could do whatever the fuck I want on it.
But first off, hello, Laura. How are you doing?
I'm doing great. How are you?
We're doing good. We're just working here
on a Wednesday.
I'm drinking a beer on a Friday.
I'm drinking a beer. She's not because she's a professional.
We got Mason Ramsey
on the show. You remember that yodeler kid
from Nashville as a kid doing that
little high kick, the cutest shit ever?
He's turning 18, people.
He's 17, almost 18.
So he's on the show.
We're a coming of age story, if you like to say.
But we're shooting a music video.
And I got a little flack about shooting a video where women were making out.
where women were making out,
and they didn't know the gist of the music video because we also have men making out in it, too,
that we haven't really promoted yet.
We got Lil Stringer making out in the video, too.
Tell me how you feel about this.
Well, first of all, it was super, super fun.
It was maybe the best.
It was the most fun ever.
It was the best 60 seconds of the entire day.
We had a fucking blast doing it.
But like, did you feel like you were objectified?
Is that the word?
Yeah.
No, I didn't feel that way.
And I think people made it a little more complicated.
We literally were just like, hey,
wouldn't it be funny if we made out?
And so we made out.
I mean, the culture is
like, what's the deal with the culture
now? What do you think your take is
on how
people are approaching
trying to cancel people?
I appreciate the intent of people protecting other people.
But I really don't do well with people telling me what I can do or should do.
If I want to make out with my friend, I'm going to make out with my friend.
Let's fucking go clap that track, baby.
Yeah, it's like, I remember we were at the bar.
We were just at the bar having fun
with John from Little Stranger
and Amy.
We were just kissing.
You were kissing Amy.
John and I were kissing. We were just
having a vibe.
It was a good time. We love it.
So I just wanted to get the story straight
that no, I'm not objectifying women.
It wasn't even my idea.
It was Laura's idea.
It was my idea, yeah.
I mean, maybe dripping water on a white t-shirt
wasn't my idea.
Maybe that was the director's idea.
But we're trying to build ambiance too.
But thank you so much, Laura.
We've had a great week here.
I love Charleston.
Tell me about Charleston.
What is it about this community
that
just makes us happy?
When you leave,
you always miss it, but you're always like,
fuck, I got to get the fuck out of here for a quick
second. Now I'm just like,
fuck, when is Andy leaving? I got to sober up.
Hey, don't blame me.
Y'all
are wild dogs out here. It's pretty wild, but I don't blame me. Y'all, y'all, y'all are wild dogs out here. Yeah. It's, it's, it's pretty,
it's pretty wild, but I don't know, especially with the little stranger guys, like they're just
good fucking dudes. You know, they're, they're good guys. Um, even just people off camera
supporting them, Snell, everybody, they're all just great guys. And so I just really appreciate
that about the Charleston music industry
there's just a lot of good people
yeah you know it's like we have to
that's why I keep coming back here the most
I like to surround myself with good people
and I like to surround myself with people
who like to have a lot of fun
and if you're a good person
and like to have a lot of fun and don't have
really an ego like I'm coming to your city
I'm going to hang out we're going to be drinking beers we're going to be at the bar still 4 a.m
like god damn like last night we all went to the bar and uh we went we all went to a nice dinner
maison shout out to maison not no shout out though for um towing john's car that was fucked up oh
yeah i forgot like what the fuck was that all about And then We had a great dinner
It was a vibe
We're all having fun
We're giggling and laughing
And stuff
And then
You know
This is what happens
Every time you're in Charleston
You're giggling and laughing
It's 9pm
And all of a sudden boom
It's 4am in the morning
Yeah
And then you gotta work
You know you work hard
Play hard in the city
Is that correct?
Work hard play hard
So what are we gonna do
What are we gonna do people
You know
Know your limits
You know I'm gonna take a break Like I'm gonna drink Kombucha For at least three days Work hard, play hard. What are we going to do, people? Know your limits.
I'm going to take a break.
I'm going to drink kombucha for at least three days when I'm in LA.
I'm going to get that sun vitamin.
That's a fucking lie.
I'm going to go party in LA too.
It's just so fun.
I love having fun.
You know what else is fun?
What?
Making out with your friends.
Yeah, making out with your friends.
Having fun.
Having a vibe. Yeah, you and Amy were really getting into it, dude. We were making out with your friends. Having fun. Having a vibe.
Yeah, you and Amy were really getting into it, dude.
We were getting into it.
So funny, dude.
Oh, I love it.
And then I started kissing John and stuff.
And I was getting into it.
And then John and Kevin are kissing.
John and Kevin are kissing.
It was a kiss fest.
And we're just, you know, it's like.
We all just love each other.
We do love each other.
You know, it's like. I don't know.
People take sex so weirdly in our country.
We're very a prude country.
Yeah, well, just to set the record straight,
we weren't all having sex.
No, we were just kissing.
Everyone's like, oh shit, here it is.
It's like a cult out there in Charleston. Just wait until the video comes out.
Yeah, we're not all having sex, people.
We were just kissing. We were having fun. It's nice to not all having sex, people. We were just kissing.
We're having fun.
It's nice to kiss the homies, you know?
It's cool.
And then, oh, man, Mason Ramsey's team is going to love this one.
It's like, Jesus Christ, Andy, chill it out.
We have Mason Ramsey on this show.
If you don't know him, he's an amazing songwriter.
His new song is top 40 in the country
And he's a huge pop star now
And we've literally watched this kid grow up
You remember that video of Mason Ramsey doing the yodeling and spinning?
I don't
Google it right now
Mason Ramsey famous shot
You'll know this kid for sure
Mason Ramsey yodel You remember You'll know this kid for sure. Mason Ramsey yodel.
Oh, yeah, I forgot.
You remember this kid?
Don't cancel me.
No, we won't cancel you.
This one, where he's like yodeling.
He's at the Walmart yodeling.
They'll play soon.
But yeah, Mason's a great kid.
I think you're going to love this interview.
It's been a great week in Charleston. Our new single
just came out. You remember this?
It got like millions of streams.
87 million streams.
That's amazing.
Now he's 17. He's a grown man. Now he's
actually writing real
songs. It's going to be dope.
That's awesome.
I love a coming-of-age story.
You're going to love this one.
But shout-out to everyone who listened to the single.
We're getting a lot of buzz on it.
I really appreciate it.
We love you guys so much for spreading the word
and all the playlisting we've got on it.
Next week, we go on tour.
Los Angeles.
Buy some fucking tickets.
My hometown.
I know I don't come around there that much anymore
But don't disappoint me, Los Angeles
We got Kyle Gass there
We need you out there
Alright, so buy tickets on the West Coast tour
We're going to be in our first tour bus
This is exciting
We're moving up, Laura
We've been friends forever now
It's been nice
This whole Charleston crew
I'm scared to move to Charleston, even though I should because I have all my really best friends out here.
But, you know, you guys scare the shit out of me.
You guys could party, dude.
Yeah, it's a lot sometimes.
It's a fucking lot, dude.
But we love you.
Enjoy this Mason Ramsey video.
Thanks for being there for us.
Thanks for always being there for my community and my people.
You know who you are.
We love you so much.
You're going to enjoy this little Stranger song that's coming out in May.
We'll start tickling some more singles and get ready to put out this new record.
All right, guys.
Enjoy Mason Ramsey.
And I'll catch you on the tail end.
Thank you, Laura, for clearing the air.
Thank you so much for having me.
It's like Barbara Walters.
We have the girl who made out in the video on the interview hour.
Let's clear the air.
All right.
Love you guys.
Bye.
All right, guys.
I totally forgot to talk about volume.com.
Ladies and gentlemen, volume.com is the best live streaming business in the game.
You know, there's multiple reasons why you should be on volume.com.
First, if you're just a listener and you love your favorite bands, you want to see them live,
volume.com has the best live streams in the game. They're professionally
done. The crew is amazing. There's so many live streams archived of your favorite bands. And
also, if you want to watch all the old previous podcasts, they're all archived on volume.com.
So as a fan, you should go to volume..com But this is the real kicker
If you are
An artist
An entertainer
We need to start taking the power back
Like we were talking about earlier with the Instagram stuff
It'll be one day
They'll shut off your account
And what are you going to do
All your fans are just going to disappear
Volume.com gives you the opportunity To collect your fans and take the power back.
And when you're live streaming or when you put out new product, yada, yada, yada,
it will get a push notification on their phone saying,
yo, your favorite artist is playing.
So going back to the listener's side of it,
if you're not really that interested in the artist Don't do the click notification
But if you really love your favorite artist
And you want to see everything they're doing
This is the perfect way for artists and listeners
To take the power back
And it's kind of like window shopping on social media these days
Where you don't know when someone's going live
You just got to hopefully be there at that exact time.
And I think for an artist trying to put out new art, I think that's bullshit.
So that's why we need to go to volume.com.
For the listeners, by the listeners.
We're taking the power back, people.
For the people, by the people.
All right.
Enjoy this interview with Mason Ramsey.
And get yourself on volume.com because I wouldn't be where I am right now without those guys.
Blue over you Now that you're gone
I don't know what to say
Just trying to think
And we're live.
Wow.
Here he is.
17-year-old Mason Ramsey.
How you doing, buddy?
I'm doing good. How are you? I How you doing, buddy? I'm doing good.
How are you?
I'm doing good, man.
I'm doing good.
How's your life?
It's pretty good so far.
You know, I'm really just living the dream here in the music industry.
Do you like it?
Yeah.
A lot of kid stars, if you're like, you get famous early and a lot of stuff happens your way
and like a lot of stimulation, do you still enjoy it
or does it feel like work?
No, I still enjoy it.
I love to perform.
Performing is one of my favorites.
Yeah.
And just releasing new music for my fans to hear.
Yeah.
That's probably my most exciting
parts of the music industry
so far.
Is there stuff you miss
from being a kid that you wish
you got to do in your life
other than entertain the masses?
Yeah, like a more regular...
No, not really, no.
Oh, yeah.
I enjoy being famous.
He was born to be a star, baby.
That's what I like to hear.
Let's go, baby.
I prefer being a huge star.
Yeah, I prefer being a star.
I prefer being a star.
Yeah, I'm too talented for that.
There's this great story about you,
about during COVID,
your grandma made you get a job at Subway?
Something like that.
What happened?
So it wasn't actually, the place that I was working at wasn't a Subway.
It was actually something else.
But I would work at this restaurant and of course I don't work there anymore,
but I'd work there
and just
have
something to do.
Since COVID was going on, I really just wanted
to stay busy and have a job
so that I
can provide.
yeah. That's about it. so I can provide but but yeah
so
it's fascinating
I thought it'd be dope if just like
Graham was like you're staying humble
I don't care how big this record gets
I don't care how big your social media
gets I know you got 1.5
million but we're keeping you humble
yeah
pretty much who keeps you humble who Yeah, pretty much. Who keeps you humble?
Who inspires you to
stay genuine in life?
My aunt.
My aunt
has a lot to do with that.
Also, just naturally,
I just want to stay humble.
I've seen a lot of things happen to other people,
and it's kind of taken them down a darker path,
and that's not a path that I would want to choose to go down.
Yeah.
And, you know, I want to treat my fans the way that they treat me.
Right.
That's awesome.
With respect.
Yeah. You know, they want the best for me, and I want the best for they treat me. Right. That's awesome. With respect. And, you know, they want the best for me
and I want the best for them.
Yeah.
So when did you start taking songwriting to the next level?
Was it during COVID?
Or when did you feel like you needed to really step it up?
So it was in 2022.
I started getting back in the swing of things,
writing songs and whatnot.
And I had a couple of gigs here and there. 2022 I started getting back in the swing of things for writing songs and whatnot and I
had a couple of gigs here and there but
Recently my just my overall
Songwriting abilities and my ideas have I feel like stepped up a notch
Obviously my my new song my new style of song blue over you which was out a few days ago um kind of shows the more um
retro vibe feel um that i like going for yeah so throwback um so i i feel like the way with the song that I put out is a pretty good shift to what I'm going towards.
And just overall, I feel like lyrically, I've probably stepped things up a little bit as well.
Why did you feel you needed to take a shift?
shift well i i my goal is to not do what everyone else is doing oh yeah my goal is something completely different yeah um a lot of people are in the commercial country industry and they
obviously it's basically that i feel the same words you're
drinking about beer and whatnot and yeah yeah i don't talk about that in my music and
i'm going for the more classical way that country used to be and um maybe even a little bit of like like um kind of that 60s love song type of rock rock and uh or heartbreak rock as well but it's
just like you know like roy orbison or whatnot um because i'm just really inspired by like
that generation of people just like roy and a little bit of Elvis, not much
but like Mick Jagger
and the Rolling Stones, Beatles
but yeah
people like that
and like obviously
in the beginning of my career Hank Williams was a huge
step
he was like
an icon for me
and still is to this day.
During COVID also,
I was learning more music
and learning new artists.
I'm just kind of like
blending all of them together.
This kid is so fucking mature.
I can't believe how mature you are, Mason.
Let's go
I have a question about your
About your writing process
Obviously so when you became famous
You were 11 or so right
So your voice has changed
So does that change the way you approach writing melodies
Is it kind of more fun because it's new
Honestly
It's a lot more fun
And believe it or not a lot more easier to do melodies now.
Oh yeah, dude. Puberty is a hell of a drug.
Lower your voice like crazy, man. Did puberty affect your yodeling?
I mean, I wasn't able to do it for a few years, but then, uh, like a few years ago, it just
naturally came back to me somehow, some way. And that's cool. I don't know. It's like,
like once I figured it out, it's like I automatically knew how to do it again.
You know, it was just so weird. It's like, I got sick. It was one of the trips I was
staying at one of the lakes that we, that we normally go to on vacation during the summertime.
And I had been practicing, but I'd gotten sick.
And on my way to Enid, Oklahoma, I was going with some of my family to go shopping there.
And I was just singing Left Sick Blues.
And I tried to yodel it,
and apparently it came back.
Let's go!
We love it.
That's awesome.
You know,
talk about lyrics and stuff.
Heartbreak.
A lot of these heartbreak songs you're writing.
Are the ladies giving you problems, Mason?
Are they coming for you?
Are they coming for you?
Do they want the money?
I need to know.
I mean, we got gotta keep you safe bro
You are a natural treasure bro
No just this one
I'm not gonna speak of her
But you definitely know her if you saw her again
Yeah
Is it hard to date?
While doing a music career?
It Is it hard to date while doing a music career? It
I mean
I don't know. I just
I don't really know.
I feel like
I feel like it's not
but finding the right one
can be a little bit difficult.
Once you find that person, it's not that hard.
Same as anybody.
I started touring in my band when I was 18
doing 250 shows a year.
Now I'm year 15.
It's still hard for me to keep a relationship
with how busy a schedule is.
You've been doing this since you were 12.
How do you understand how to take a break?
Are you good about telling yourself
to take a break and find love?
Or are you just letting it come when it comes but staying eye on the prize?
Because you're young.
You should still be hustling, bro.
This is your time, bro.
You're golden years.
Eye on the prize for sure.
Really just takes motivation.
And my uncle is very good with helping me stay motivated
even through the
hardest times of my life.
Is he here with you?
Is he here?
No, he's not here.
That would be awesome.
I love the guy behind the guy.
Who were your muses growing up?
When that video popped
at 12, it was popping off the walmart video like
were you nervous or like were you ready for this your whole life i didn't know i honestly i did not
know what was going on i had no clue yeah because you're so young and so new and i think it was like
a very exciting moment for me because i really that was my dream. I just wanted to you know
be out there and just like and
Just do music really and I always wanted to go to Nashville
I'd been a few times before and mm-hmm. This is my grandpa take me to places like
Smaller places for instance nursing homes
to places like smaller places, for instance, nursing homes.
I sang Walmart a few times,
but the one times whenever it really kicked off.
But he'd taken me to Nashville a few times,
and I sang at Tootsie's whenever I was three, believe it or not.
Yeah, the age of three.
Do you remember that gig?
I remember.
Give me your visuals. I can't remember shit, dude. I have
horrible memory. Give me your three-year-old
visual.
Well,
whenever I was
three, I remember going into
Tootsie's and asking these...
There was a
band playing. It was just like
a couple people and
I asked them if I
could get up and sing a song.
My grandpa helped me ask.
Because he's a guy.
So they agreed and I
wanted to do Your Cheating Heart
by Henkel Williams.
And I did. There was no one
in there
in Tootsies at the time
that I started singing.
But whenever I got around,
I want to say this,
like halfway in the song,
people started coming in
because they heard a kid singing,
you know.
What's going on?
I left and I think Tootsies
had their fair share of beers
and rounds after I got there. You should have hit him up for some money I think
yeah you should have got at least a little
cut but
I was happy to do it for him
who taught you this confidence at
three years old like who was your role models
that told you you could do anything you want
man I was just born to do it
I don't know what it is about it
I love this Mason
I like that energy a lot I just wanted to sing it i don't know what it is about it i love this i like that energy a lot
just wanted to sing um my grandpa like i said a huge hank williams fan and you know
i but i could sing before i learned how to talk so like right it was kind of crazy it's just
naturally a thing and and he's the only one that really sings in our family but like he's not that good
at it but i like i don't want to embarrass him but you know um but for some reason you know just
a miracle happened to me and and i'm so thankful and grateful um for everyone everyone that is bleeding into me this day.
And my goal is just to keep continuing and keep going.
What's the hardest part about being a child star?
No friends.
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
It's got to be super lonely, man.
Yeah.
Some people don't understand it is it is very hard to be uh
to be you know in the music industry and be very well known because a lot of people don't know what
goes on behind the scenes right but um but especially with the artists mentally, but, um, I just, um,
you know, you're going to have emotional swings here and there.
You just got to just keep the eye on the prize and, um,
stay motivated, whatever it takes you to be motivated. Just always do it.
I always say, and I don't mind as the devil's workshop. So, um,
I always keep my mind busy
or at least try to
how do you keep
depression away when you're lonely
what do you do to keep those lonely
thoughts away
listen to music
like who
sometimes myself
I love this
sometimes
like the newer stuff that isn't released yet that I've got Sometimes myself, but that's what God that's
Like the new stuff that isn't released yet that I
get that I
That's like I
listen, I've been listening to a lot of the unreleased stuff lately of mine and
But like also I've got like a Spotify playlist that I listen to. Like Roy Orbison.
And then Elvis.
Jim Croce.
I love Jim.
I would love if you were just listening to blasting dark metal.
Just like Norwegian death metal.
Just getting pumped up for your show.
I'm crying. You had a metal remix of it
I'm crying and I'm done
We love it
Loneliness is a very hard thing to tackle
Especially as a kid
And especially
When you don't know what these people want from you
Is it hard to trust people?
Cause you don't, you feel like they're like, uh,
just trying to get something out of you or how,
how's your trust issue on people?
So I trust people very carefully.
Yeah.
Very carefully.
It's the key.
Um,
I would say you got to get to know a person for a very long time before you
can fully trust them.
And even then things can kind of go sideways here and there if you're not careful um
but um I mean I've had a lot of people take advantage of me um a lot of people you know
stop believing in me and uh but you know I've always kept my eye on the prize
because music is really what I want to do.
And I see myself in it long term.
Describe to me the first time you felt heartbreak
through the music industry.
What happened?
During the music industry?
Well, like actual heartbreak.
Your career, like a label dropping you
or someone stealing money from you.
Like, what?
I'd rather not say just because I don't want to, you know,
out of respect for them and I,
but I've just had a couple of things happen,
but I'd rather not let it be out there
because I don't give, give you know any hate to
them or you know i don't want to make them feel uncomfortable so okay how do you that's good i
respect that so mature for his god you are mature my dude yeah and someone raised you yeah and like
you're well you know you're well spoken and you know i can tell you've been with a publicist for a long time
because you're really smart with what not to say and what to say.
You would not have done that.
You would have been like, Mark, do this.
Yeah, if I was younger, I would have been like, whatever.
So I actually haven't really had a publicist.
Really?
You're just this good.
You're just naturally just a well-raised young man.
Honestly, it's just by being raised by
my grandparents yeah tell me about them they have what do they mean to you with that um well they
mean obviously the world to me they uh i wouldn't be i wouldn't be here or even probably in music
without them i mean they they're what made everything happen you know
it's just they've done so much for me that I I don't know like what I could
ever do to repay them because you know their love for me is just so much
greater yeah and I love them a lot.
They're a huge part of my life.
Do you still live with them?
Yes, I do.
However, I'm in Nashville so much,
so whenever they do see me, it's very seldom.
Do you have your own pad in nashville uh i don't have no i i do not have a house in nashville i'm just like
like normally i stay in hotels a lot so like um that's like my home is hotel where wherever hotel we you know like to stay
but I've been just like super busy lately and like these past year has been
super crazy for me but yeah what about what's your relationship with your My parents, you know, I don't really know.
I haven't seen them in, I want to say, a very long time. Um, I don't know, but, um, my, my aunt and uncle, I would consider my,
um, my, my real, my real parents. And I, um, cause they, um, they're also, you know,
whenever all this stuff started happening, they've been like, just like helping me and
giving me some advice here and there and you know they've really just
helped me out a lot they normally go with me everywhere because we're family and family
sticks together and um you know i also feel like that's a way to just uh you know not like
get caught up in whatever it is.
Most people get caught up in drugs and alcohol and stuff.
Actually, I feel like
I like having them around. They really help me out.
You'll be grounded.
Yeah, especially
younger generations aren't really doing drugs and alcohol anymore.
It is kind of becoming
more taboo.
People are realizing the effects of it.
And if anyone is, you give me their number,
I will yell at them.
We got your back. We're your big bros.
Send anyone our way that's giving you trouble.
You talk about this idea of
family with your uncle and your aunt
and this idea
of what you believe family is.
Did it bum you out that your mom and dad
weren't feeling the same type of resolution in your head? Do what? Were you bummed out that
your actual mom and dad didn't feel the same way? No, I'm not. I. You know, I don't really know them,
but I am surrounded with a lot of good people
that really do care about me.
So much.
Yeah.
That's really all that matters.
I'm not really bummed out.
I mean, it is what it is.
I mean, you know, it just, it just happens.
Yep.
They try to holler at you
when you start making money?
Yeah,
I was wondering about that too,
actually.
There's been incidences,
but nothing too,
nothing too major.
You say not today,
devil.
You weren't with me
when we were,
you weren't with me
on my lowest,
you ain't be with me
on my highest.
Yeah,
if you're not with me at Walmart, you're't with me at my lowest You ain't be with me at my highest Yeah if you're not with me at Walmart
You're not with me at P.F. Chang's
We love it
So that's great
So you have people that are around you
That you really care about
That help you grow
So does that make the music making easier
Because you know you have a safety blanket
To fall on
Absolutely
What about taking risks?
What do you mean taking risks?
Taking risks in your life and as
growing and taking risks in your music.
Are you allowed
to do that or do you feel like you're stuck
in a country bubble?
Right.
I mean, I take
risks at the lake
that I go to. What do you do at the lake that I go to.
What do you do at the lake?
I jump up a 40-foot cliff and straight into the water.
That's awesome.
Label's like, stop doing that.
Yeah, the label's like, don't do it.
You'll break your leg.
I was on a sea-do, and I gave my cousin a concussion by accident a gigantic wave and
we both went flying off of it and i look like superman you're country we got a country boy
in our hands yeah um yeah um you know i mean i'm i'm i like to drive fast, I guess, whenever I get a chance.
Because you're turning into a team.
Oh, you can drive now too.
Yeah, you drive now?
A little bit here and there, not as much.
Whenever I drive, it's like in my hometown.
I don't drive in Nashville because there's too many crazy people in Nashville
that drive very recklessly.
And I just don't think it's safe enough for me to drive.
Maybe whenever I have a little bit more experience under my belt, maybe.
Did you buy yourself a dope whip?
Like a sick car?
Yeah.
I mean, I buy it.
My family bought it for me for my birthday on my 16th birthday.
It's a 1968 Chevrolet K10.
Whoa.
He's the real deal.
That's a car.
Let's go.
That's a car.
That's a car you get when you like cars.
I'm huge.
I'm a huge, like, model car collector.
Yeah. I'm a huge model car collector. Old cars from the 50s, the 60s, some in the 70s.
What about high school? You go to high school?
No, I'm homeschooled.
What's that like?
Well, it is different.
It is quicker and probably easier yeah however i feel like i'm not i i do feel i'm not as smart as i once was but yeah you know that's
but you're a better songwriter you're a I guess. You're a better songwriter. I am a better songwriter.
That's gotta be lonely too,
doing homeschool by yourself,
bro.
It's like,
you never don't have any friends.
Yeah.
Um,
yeah.
Yeah.
That's basically why I probably don't have anyone to hang out with,
but like,
you know,
I'm surrounded with good family and,
uh,
they're basically my friends as well
yeah do you miss like yeah do you miss the swings and like ice cream and can you do all that stuff
go to the park and fucking innocence yeah you miss that are you just ready to like start your
next chapter of your career of your life i mean I mean, I'm just ready.
Ready to fly,
really.
That's awesome.
I love this.
Ready to fly.
You're turning 18.
Are you going to pull the Presley,
go to the Army, are you going to sign up for the Army?
I thought about it.
Yeah?
You might be a Marine. You might be a Marine.
You might be a Marine, how you are so
elegant with your words.
I'd also like to thank
my cousin for that.
He's a correctional
officer at the
prison, so he has a way with words.
But yeah, I thought about signing up for the Army,
but I don't know.
I'll have to see.
Might have to headline theaters instead.
Yeah, headline theaters.
Make that money.
You don't need to go to the Army.
They don't pay that good anyway, so screw good anyway You can't really do your thing over there
What about, tell me about
How was this Angry Birds doing voiceover
For Angry Birds
That sounds cool
You know
It
It was unique, it was very
It was very funny to do
You know, like I had to make
A weird voice
for my character.
It was just
really neat
and really interesting.
I'd never done anything like it before.
I thought it was really cool.
It's beautiful, man.
Did you get paid good for that? Is that some good money?
Does that stuff make good money?
I don't really know.
All I know is whatever I get, it goes to my accountants,
and then that goes from there.
Hold on.
So when you turn 18, do you get all your money?
Yeah, how does that work?
How does that work?
I'm not really sure, to be honest.
I got a team, bro.
I got a team, bro.
Wait, let me make my accountants talk about this.
I mean, I just really let my accountants handle everything,
and they've been good with it so far.
Are you on an allowance?
Salary.
I think so.
For salary?
$200 a month, I believe.
That was a funny smile after that. There it is. No, like, I believe. That was a funny thought.
There it is.
No, for real.
It's only maybe a few hundred dollars a month.
You don't really need money, right?
You're saving.
You're saving.
I don't really need money.
I just let everyone else spend their money.
I just sit back.
What's your take on money?
Does it drive you?
I mean,
really, it just depends on how you look at it.
Money can be a good thing. Money can also be a very bad thing.
Yeah.
Love for money can also be
can
drive you,
but what you do with it can be
completely different and it can change
how you are.
I look at Britney Spears' parents.
Yeah, exactly.
They messed her up, dude.
That's happened a lot.
Yeah.
I know.
So you've got to keep a good base.
And make sure your accounts aren't screwing you.
Yeah, you need an accountant for your account.
You need an accountant for your account.
And then they need an accountant.
And then they need an accountant.
You need three accountants just to make sure no one's screwing you
Because I don't want to see you at 40 years old
Without any dough
I want you to be thriving
I want you in fucking seven Corvettes
I want the whole nine
Owning Graceland
So when you're making records
So this new single that's out
Do you like doing the TikTok stuff?
Is it part of the game or or what
oh yeah for sure um yeah i like it i think um you know that's like probably my i want to say
my biggest like fan base is like on tiktok yeah like followers wise um I've got like 2.7 mil
last time I checked.
I don't think
Instagram is as high,
but I've got a lot on
Instagram as well.
And then I don't know about Twitter
or none of that Reels or whatever.
I don't know nothing about that.
Those are the only two that I
really check. Is it hard to walk around
in Nashville? Do people recognize you? Are they shouting your name? nothing about that those is the only two that i really check is it hard to walk around in nashville
or do people recognize you are they like shouting your name amazing
well during covet it was quite easy actually but now it's it's a little bit different i mean you
know i i get recognized here and there but yeah because i wonder because you've grown up like you
don't look the same when you were super at 12 so do people recognize
you as that guy or do they
recognize you now as the songwriter
you know it's like
is it a mixture of both
no I
really don't know I mean
I get you know like that
the yodel kid and people call me that
still so I mean they must
be following me on
some sort of platform.
For years.
But that's
normally what I get called. Or Mason Ramsey,
which is what I prefer.
Are you over yodeling?
Whatever it takes for you
to know me, I guess
that's okay with me.
Whoever pushes those tickets
do like as you get older like sometimes we get like do you still love that you're the yodel guy
or is it kind of like you over it well i i don't prefer it but yeah whatever like i said whatever
it just takes for people to know me i I guess. It's fine with me.
But I prefer Mason.
And I think that, yeah.
I swear to God, for being this professional,
he better have some bank in the cat.
We need to find an account for your account, Mason, just in case.
You are a professional.
You are a effing professional.
He's more professional than you already.
Yeah, oh yeah.
I'm just kidding.
Yeah.
Do you want to do acting?
Is that something you're interested in?
I mean, I could definitely see it.
I've tried acting, and I actually almost got pitched for a few things, actually.
I almost got to do some parts for some movies.
Were you bummed that you couldn't do it?
You know,
at the time, I really wasn't sure
about acting.
I wasn't really good at it, but now I feel like
I could do it.
I've had a little bit more experience.
You've got time.
I feel like I could
probably do it now, but
maybe later though, because right now I've got other stuff I've got to be doing.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah, do you like being on the road,
or do you like making music?
Do you like performing versus making records?
What do you like better?
Wow, that's a good question.
I mean, I like to tour. I really do.
I like just performing live for my fans.
But I'm also like, I get super excited to hear when my new stuff comes out.
I feel like I just love giving music to my fans.
It's like letting them hear it and then letting them get an idea of,
like, wow, this is really Mason Ramsey.
But I don't know.
I really just like doing live shows.
Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. It's the best, man. It's just like doing live shows. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah.
It's the best, man.
It's just like you feel the energy, you feel the connection,
and all that hard work in the studio feels like it pays off, right?
Yeah.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
I have a question about touring.
Are you touring with a full band?
How did you come across your band?
Because you're so young.
You didn't know a million musicians by the time you blew up.
Is it people from home?
Are you hiring Nashville guys?
I'm hiring Nashville guys, but we're doing something a little bit more different than like the records so it's it's it's kind of the
same a little bit different you'll have like my audience will have to come to
like one of my shows to like get an idea or like I posted some of the stuff on
tik-tok or like shows and stuff that I've done to get
somewhat of a feel.
Sick.
Sick. I mean...
That's a killing band.
Keep fighting the good fight, big bro.
We're here for you.
You're 18 too.
These women are going to come out of the woodwork
and try to get your money, Mason.
You got to watch out for this.
I'm serious.
Yep.
And wear protection, just in case.
You know, no babies.
I don't want no Ramses out there while you're making your opus, okay?
Let's keep our eyes on the prize.
Eyes on the prize, Ray.
All right, buddy.
I got one last question.
I'll let you go.
When it's all said and done, when you, when you're old, like when you're 110
because you're stoic, there's going to be no drugs in this man's body.
He's going to drink water.
He's going to be like one of those old Japanese monks.
Yes.
When you're 110 years old, what do you want to be remembered by?
You're 110 years old.
What do you want to be remembered by?
Someone that really cares about his fans and about anyone that has truly cared about me.
I just have a lot of love for other people,
and I want the best for them, like I said earlier,
as they've wanted the best for me.
But I hope I can be remembered as someone
that changed many people's lives
with whatever times it was that they were going through.
I hope my music was able to inspire other artists.
And that's it.
That's fucking beautiful.
That's great.
Well, I hope the best for you, buddy.
I hope you made for you, buddy.
I hope you made your success and I hope you figure out the loneliness.
And as you get older,
when people are finally out of high school and stuff,
I know without a doubt,
you're going to find best friends out there
that are going to be doing the same thing
and they're going to love you
and you guys are going to have a big old,
you're going to be like Tupac and, uh, it'll be like Tupac and Biggie when, before there's before. Yeah.
When they were homies, when they're 94, when 19, 20 years old, they're hanging out, you
know, before we don't want, you know, we don't want after big. Yeah. Yeah. Tupac beef. All
right, buddy. Well, good to see you and keep rocking, bro. I'm in Nashville a lot. Hopefully
we, uh, we get to get some FaceTime here sometime soon.
Absolutely.
Good to see you. Thank you.
Thank you very much for having me on. Have a good one.
Yeah, great day.
Thank you.
