This season on my podcast, here's the thing.
I talk to actor Stephen Root.

You see that guy going down to the ring though?
Yeah, I can use that.
And Open Igloo co-founder, Alia Muhammad.

Hi, I'm Kristen Davis, and I want to know, are you a Charlotte?
Welcome back, everybody to Are You a Charlotte? This is part two.
with Wally Langham, an incredible actor,
actor extraordinaire of many, many, many things.
And we are talking his episode that he was in,
which was the beginning of the final season of Sex and City,
episode 601, called To Market to Market.
Okay, so I would love your perspective.
I always love to have different perspectives on the storylines.
And since you are a grown-up straight man,
I can't wait to hear what you're going to say.
Okay.
Because I don't have many grown-up straight men that I get to talk to about this.
Oh, interesting.
Okay.
So I would love, like, at this time in your life, when you came on our show, were you single?
No.
Okay, got it.
Got it.
I was in a different marriage.
Got it, got it.
So did you, were you, was your take on the show like, wow, that's out there?
Or was it like, oh, that's so cool that these, you know, single something ladies get to have a show, whatever?
It's funny.
I think I just accepted that world for what it was.
You know what I mean?
And definitely understood the kind of camp.
aspect to it. And the funny thing was when I would watch these guys who were the straight guys
going in to do the dates and things like that, I'm like, that would never happen. You know,
I just had no reality on it. And, you know, it's like I'd been out of the dating pool since I was like
20. Oh, got it. Got it. So it's like, I don't know. I couldn't really say one way or another.
Got it. You know what I mean? Yes, I do. I do. But it's like for Samantha to have that apartment next to that
gay bar next to, you know, and get the handcuffs and the whole thing. It's like, you know,
it's kind of like, I think you're stretching the reality a little bit.
I mean, for sure, for sure. That particular one is interesting for sure. But I do remember down there
because when they were converting the meatpacking district into like, you know, designer
shops and condos or whatever, co-ops, et cetera, it was a, it was a weird juxtaposition for a
which I think, you know, they took and then amped up a bit, right,
in terms of like the motorcycle gang or whatever they, you know,
in their, in their strange outfits and whatnot.
But, I mean, I didn't think it was a huge stretch at the time
because it was an area that I would never, like,
and, you know, still you can go and they have the meat, right, hanging out there.
You know, that's still happening, but just like one place.
It used to be like everywhere, right?
Oh, of course.
You'd have to, like, weave your way through.
Yeah, definitely.
It's like, you know, dudes are down there cutting up cows.
Cutting up cows, yes.
And at nighttime, doing a different thing.
Oh, for sure.
For sure.
Yeah, what I know about.
Right.
So I think I answered your question.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Totally.
I mean, I just wanted to get the lay of the land.
Like, like, where were you mentally emotionally at the time?
I enjoyed the show because I didn't know New York.
I grew up here in L.A.
I liked all the characters.
They were funny.
Some of the things were wacky.
You know, and I knew.
And I knew Willie Garson a little bit.
God bless.
Yes.
And so I love watching him work.
Yeah.
And it was just, you know, that was always, it was just kind of a treat.
Did you know Willie because you'd worked with them or just from being around?
We were, we were guys in the room together.
So it's like, you know, if I would go on an audition, Willie's here.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
Love it.
Love it.
Love it.
Yeah.
So, and then, yeah, you know, so we would see each other.
And also, I think just around L.A.
Of course.
Everyone knew it.
And also we're both fans of Elvis Costello.
So,
oh my God.
So he was so close to Elvis.
I know.
Oh.
How we talked about them all the time.
Well,
yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Every Elvis Costello show I went to,
there's Willie.
I mean,
yes.
He was like very committed and close to them and like knew their children and
whatnot.
I'm sure.
Really interesting.
Yeah.
That makes sense.
Willie knew so many interesting people.
David Zazelof was at that party the other night,
the HBO party.
And we had a long talk about Willie.
They were close.
Yeah.
Davis Azlop and Willie Garson work.
That's lovely.
That's so sweet.
That is sweet.
I know.
So sweet.
Well, he's just, he was just a easy guy to get around and hang out with.
He was so easy to talk to and funny and smart.
Oh, my God.
Yeah, intimidatingly smart sometimes.
Exactly.
I just feel like, hmm, okay.
I'm a little nervous.
Exactly.
Yeah.
No, he had, he had like an interesting edge to him in regular life.
But I think people didn't necessarily always see in his characters, right?
but he was like ahead of you.
I was just going to say, it's like he's got five steps ahead of you.
Yep.
Yeah, for sure.
Which made it really, you had to be like on your toes with.
Oh, yeah.
You know?
Oh, yeah.
But I love that about him.
Okay, so Sarah Jessica, sorry, Carrie, you know, it's very hard to separate.
It's very hard at this point.
Well, because I know them so well, but now I've had to be rewatching, right?
When I saw Michael Patrick, he said to me something about, you know, he said something like,
I don't know if you know the life of the show with the young ladies.
I was like, babe, I live it every day because I'm recapping.
I do know.
I do know.
He's like, do you know?
I'm like, I do, I really do, I really do.
I mean, the name of the shows, are you a Charlotte?
Exactly.
Come on.
He named it.
Michael Patrick named it.
Yes.
Which you'll have to explain to me.
Oh, really?
Yeah, what does it mean?
Oh my God, you're so adorable.
Okay, so, you know, BuzzFeed?
I've heard of BuzzFeed.
Sure.
BuzzFeed had this quiz.
I think you can still find it.
Okay.
Where you would take a quiz to, with a number of questions.
And then at the end of it, it would tell you who,
Which character you were.
Yes.
I got it.
Which is a very common and prevalent thing that people do.
So when people meet me, they usually volunteer.
Like, I'm part Miranda, a little bit of Samantha, but I don't tell everyone that.
And then some Carrie Rising or whatever.
They have all interesting, yes.
I mean, it can be very elaborate.
It's worse than astrology.
It's like astrology, yes.
But then sometimes there'll be, we had Kristen Johnston on the other day and she was like,
Oh, just work with her.
You did?
You only?
Yeah, it was. Oh, great.
Yeah, she's fantastic.
I'm so happy for them.
Yeah, me too.
Yeah, it's really great.
So great.
Yeah.
She, she, what's her character's name again?
Oh my God.
Lexi, Lexi.
We just had Julie who played Bidsey.
She's Lexi, right?
Who, Kristen Johnson?
Yes, yes.
I said, which one are you?
And she was like, I'm Lexi.
And I was like, of course you are.
So, you know, you can be, there's many choices.
Oh, there are.
Okay.
Yes, there's many choices.
Yes.
Yes.
So that's what that's about.
Fantastic.
Yes, that's what that's about.
You're welcome.
I'll have to take the quiz, figure out who I am.
Yes.
I mean, maybe we should pull it up right now and give it to you on the podcast.
Do we have that kind of time?
I don't know, because I do need a recap.
Okay.
I'm going to get to the broad strokes of the Carrie situation.
So Carrie has meant this burger guy.
And the idea, I don't know if you know Ron.
Do you know Ron?
No.
Oh, I would think you would also have been in the road with Ron.
I met him that day and I know his work.
Yeah, yeah, of course.
And I think that the idea is, you know, that they're meeting in an
intellectual realm, a witty realm, because they're both writers, which is very different than
big and Aden and the other love interests, right? I don't know how much I needed to explain to you.
Oh, yes, John Corder. Okay. Yes, for sure, for sure. So that's the idea. But it's very interesting
to watch it go down, right? Because also he's kind of normal. He's like an intellectual writer,
but also he lives in like a regular hotel, I almost said. He lives in a regular apartment, right?
Like we're getting to see these new characters. Much like her in a way. Yes. Yes. Yes.
Yeah, yeah.
It is more like her.
Not as famous as she is, obviously.
Well, but he says in this episode that he has a Pulitzer,
which is also you're like, whoa.
Oh, wow.
That's true.
Yeah, I know.
Yeah, yeah.
But he's like, you know, she's like a guy version,
like a serious version of a writer, you know.
But the idea is that they can have this kind of repartee and wordplay and banter and
all the things.
It's very interesting to watch it, to watch it go down.
And it's so interesting because it's like, on the one hand,
she's all excited and the girls are like, calm down, you know,
whatever. But then it's also, it's hard, it's hard for me when I'm watching it. And I don't expect you to have
equal feelings. It's hard for me to, I can't wait for this. I'm just, it's hard for me to fully invest in it,
which I think is, I don't know if this is also, like, I'm curious, our listeners, you know, who are
big fans of the show, obviously, and people have a lot of feelings about Burger because he's going to
eventually break up with her on a Post-it. I don't know if you remember this. I don't. Okay, wow,
Wally, Wally, okay.
He breaks up with her on a Post-it.
Wow, ouch.
I know.
Ouch, big time.
Ouch, big time.
It's a tough one.
It is.
It is.
This is before texting.
Exactly.
It's the same.
It's like what you had available to you at the time.
A pen and a Post-it.
Right.
Like a text would be.
And as a writer, that seems fitting.
It's so true.
It's kind of unkind.
Very cold.
Extremely cold.
Yeah.
But also the whole relationship is really interestingly.
Okay.
I'll take your word for it.
It's challenging.
Yes.
It's her obsessing about the outfits.
And then going on your date, which then takes the pressure off her, which is wonderful.
Okay, maybe we've talked about carrying up.
That's good.
Let's move on to Charlotte.
Now, okay, I'll sidebar if you want my, if you want my perspective.
I do.
Okay.
I certainly see that as a plausible
quandary to be in for a woman going on
a date, her first date.
Yeah.
The perfect outfit.
Oh, yeah.
I totally get it.
It's big.
I totally get it.
Is there a guy version of this?
Yeah, I mean, I have my own guy version of it.
But luckily I'm married so I can just say, does this working or is it?
She's like, well, change it.
But yeah, it is.
And I don't know, maybe I always tend to overdress as a person.
That's good.
Obviously.
I just rolled in off the beach or something.
But yes, I want to look appropriate.
But having said that, as a teenager, I did show up to a pool party in pink khaki pants.
It was preppy days.
Okay, okay.
I was alive during preppy days.
Okay.
Yes.
It's in the 80s.
Pink pants, red slip on dockside or,
shoes, a yellow shirt with an Argyll sweater vest. Oh my. And a bow tie. Wow. How did that go?
Terribly. I think the girls, this is some friends, I don't even know what they're friends,
but they were, yeah, people that, girls that I knew in Beverly Hills, and I'd been invited over to
their house. And so I thought, well, I'm going to look like I belong in Beverly Hills. And so I was a
moron because, you know, the dudes at the party come up to me and they surround me. About three
in them are like, hey, man, can we push you in the pool?
And I prefer that you don't.
Wow.
All right.
Well, you're just an actor waiting to happen.
Oh, my God.
But it's all the pieces are there.
Yes, I get it.
You were going to dress appropriately for the scene you thought was going to unfold.
Exactly.
But what I liked about Carrie's choice, even for the simudate, great outfit.
Totally.
And a fendi back.
Yes.
You know, the shoes.
Yeah, she put it together.
Of course she did.
And she always overdresses also.
So you should relate to that.
But she's like, why not dress how you want to dress, you know?
Sure.
Yeah.
I struggle with all of that in real life because I'm just trying to be as casual as I can be to move through my day quickly and be comfortable.
Right.
But then I really disappoint people when they do.
Do you really?
Well, I think they're sad that I'm not dressed better.
You know, I do.
You mean like the general public or people you know?
People who might recognize me.
Oh, I see what you mean.
Yes, yeah, yeah.
Oh, the people I know don't care for sure.
Yes.
They know.
They know.
They understand.
But fans, fans, you know, they look sad.
I understood.
Yeah.
I get it.
It's hard to live up to.
It's a hard cross to bear.
Yeah, it's a fine cross to bear.
The sad thing is that like all of Charlott's, not all, but a lot of Charlotte's clothes are at my house.
But I just can't, like, put them on because it's, you can't.
It's weird.
Do you know what I mean?
It's weird.
So you have a lot of Charlotte's clothes
I do, yeah
And shoes
And if you were to like leave the house
Just as Charlotte
Would that feel weird?
It would
I mean it might not feel weird
Because I feel very comfortable
In her clothes right
Because I have played her for 18 million years
Right?
Yep
But it's a more structured
You know, it's not how I want to live
Every day, right?
She looks at dresses very structured
But also people just recognize
That'd be strange.
Like why?
Why walk around to Charlotte
It would be very strange.
Or you get the super fan who's like, oh, you're wearing that outfit from season four episode five.
No joke, Wally.
No joke.
Like sometimes I'll be like, I don't know what I'm wearing and everyone's on.
Oh, you're wearing.
I'm like, thank you.
Thank you, everyone for paying so much attention.
It's impressive.
And a lot of times I don't know stuff.
Like rewatching it, I'm blown away by things I forgot about.
People are on the Instagram.
I'm like, oh, sorry.
Carrie has a whole relationship with McDonald's.
I'm like, oh, I'm really sorry.
I didn't realize.
Apparently, Carrie has a whole relationship with McDonald's.
The fast food restaurant.
Yes.
Yeah, I've got to get to the bottom of this, too.
Like, I don't know if it was like product placement on HBO, which doesn't really make sense, right?
No, I don't see that happening.
I don't see that either.
I think it's probably, and I'm just going to throw it out there because I don't know.
Yeah.
That it's the kind of lowbrow guilty pleasure for Carrie Bradshaw.
I think you're 100% right.
There we go.
And because they were also there, right?
I mean, she also loves, like, Grace Hot Dogs and all the New York things.
You know what I'm saying?
Right.
But the McDonald's are also there.
They're everywhere.
So it's easy.
Yeah, exactly, right.
All right, let's talk about Charlotte for a second.
Okay.
So this is when I'm...
Who plays Charlotte?
I don't know.
Some girl with brown hair.
I know she's a brunette.
There's hardly any of them in our industry.
Not ringing a bell.
Everyone slowly turns into blondes.
But yes, she looks familiar.
I don't know.
She, Charlotte,
is considering converting over to Judaism.
Yes.
Because of Harry.
Because he told her at the end of season five
that he couldn't marry her because she wasn't a Jew.
Right.
She seems quite surprised by this news.
So now, Kabam, 601, she's on the road to converting already.
She's in her classes, right?
This is the classes.
No.
No, she's not in her classes.
She's just thinking about it.
Yes.
And there's talk about his mother being dead.
Oh, yes.
Thank God.
Yes.
I'm so happy that she's not alive.
And she's happy. Yeah, exactly. And also, you know, you're looking at it and you're really considering it.
Right. But isn't this, is this where I'm having sex with him? And I get him to say that it's not that important.
Yes. Wow. That really shocked me. I do not remember that. I was like, wow. You know. Wow.
Yeah. And there was a, I think he felt it was a subtle form of manipulation.
I guess he did. It would have totally worked with the last husband, Kyle's character. That's the kind of thing that went on.
So I guess she's trying to think she learned from Bunny, his mother, right?
Yeah.
But it doesn't work out because then in the morning he's like, no.
Mm-mm-mm.
Poor Charlotte.
Poor Charlotte.
Mm-mm-mm.
So it's interesting, but I do really love Evan.
Evan coming on, I feel like it's just a breath of fresh air.
It's like he's so different.
He's adorable.
Yes.

Oh my God, Lexi.

If men were just honest about this, there would be so much more peace in the world.
We're going to talk about dating, relationships, beauty, getting older, and a little wiser.
We're best friends, but we don't always agree.
Because you told us how accommodating you are.
Obviously, I would do what I think I could do to fight the fight, but there's only so much
fight I can fight.
Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me.
Liar. Listen on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I don't really care.

So we don't like to use that word anymore.
Okay.
A panel of New Yorker cartoonists.
Have you guys done Terry Gross's Peloton class?
No!
I've been dying too.
I'm so sorry.
I'm seeing a reading of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Audra McDonald's at the Wonderland Bookstore on 14.
That's crazy.
I went to the Wonderland Bookstore yesterday and I heard Nora Jones do a reading of Zero Dark 30.
No way.
You have to come to the last bookstore, though.
Kim Cottrell is reading this.

Hi, it's Alec Baldwin this season on my podcast.
Here's the thing I'm speaking with more artists, policymakers, and performers like actor Stephen Root.
I think for me to be any good or for any character actor to be any good, you've got to put
enough of yourself and your empathy for people in it. I'm a people watcher. You see that guy
going down the dream and go, yeah, I can use that. Open Igloo co-founder, Alia Muhammad.
I love staying on top of what is going on in our city, what is going on in city politics, what is on
renter's minds and taking all of that knowledge to build a platform that hopefully is going to make

And actress and singer Melissa Eriko.
Partnership took on a whole other meaning when I started making my own work.
It's like you with a great actress or actor.
It was best to come out of your trailer, full of life, and just face another person who's
full of life and don't talk.
Listen to Here's the Thing on the IHeart Radio app Apple Podcasts.
or wherever you get your podcasts.
So when Carrie's out and she sees,
she's still planning her,
her date outfit and this and that and the time.
And he's left a voice message that they also like,
you know, break down.
Like that is the perfect voice message on her answering machine.
I mean, the amount of thought and whatever is,
it's adorable,
but I was like, oh, God, I don't miss those days at all.
Like being in your, you know, dating days or whatever,
thinking about what,
inflection they gave to whatever.
God.
Well, now you're trying to interpret all that through text.
It's true, which is a lot harder.
You're right.
It's so much harder.
You're right.
You're right.
You're right.
You're right.
I also, I don't care anymore, right?
That's really what I'm saying.
You know what I mean?
So, like, yeah.
Did you guys get that?
She doesn't care anymore.
I think they know.
I think they know.
I'm talking about dating.
They already know.
They already know.
We've discussed it.
We've discussed it.
All right.
But I think it's interesting because it did remind us.
me of just the detail, you know, that you're trying to parse each detail, like, down to,
like, the true meaning, but it's just so much pressure and you don't really know until you get
there, you know what I'm saying.
So.
Well, it's, it's, I liken it to being worried about the test.
Mm-hmm.
In sixth grade to such an extent.
And then when you actually take the test, you know all the answers in everything's cool.
And you're like, why was I worrying?
Oh, absolutely.
It's exactly like that.
But interesting that she, I think she sees Burger,
and she's not dressed to see Burger.
And she's running around like, I've got to get out of here.
Right.
And then that's my terrible.
Carrie Bradshaw.
She skitters away.
I like the hand gestures.
Yeah, I don't have the heels for it.
I'm not, you know, the hair's not up.
Yes, yes.
Anyway.
And as she's going down the street,
She sees Aiden from behind.
I know, turns around in slow-mo.
Come on, what a reveal.
Insane.
And what is strapped to that tall man's chest?
A little, A baby.
It is adorable.
I know, it's cute.
But it's weird.
It's really weird.
I felt Carrie's like, it was awkward.
It was really awkward.
And, you know, Sarah, of course, being Sarah, played it so beautifully.
It was, like, all kind of, like, all the puzzle pieces kind of clicked together of like, oh, that part of my life is over.
this is the new reality.
I'm happy for him.
I'm going to get on with my life.
Definitely.
And also it's so interesting because we,
I don't know that if you know,
but we do do another show where Aident does come back, right?
So like...
I understand.
Right, right, right.
I get it.
Right, but I think that's what's so interesting
about looking back too,
because they're just writing.
They don't know what's going to happen
in the future either, right?
Right.
And also we've run into him in Morocco
slash Abu Dhabi in the movie.
Like so many things happen with Aidan.
But I love the finality of it, right?
Because he says, oh, we should get together.
Oh, let me get my wife.
And she's like, no, that's okay.
And he's like, we should get together.
And then she walks off in the voiceover something like, we all know some things aren't going to happen.
Exactly.
Right.
You say you're going to have a day, but it's never going to happen.
Right.
Because that is the past, which I love so much.
But then it's also not the past.
Because we've got a lot more aid incoming people.
Well, it's interesting.
But we don't know that at this point.
I know.
But that's just how life is, you know.
Yeah, I know.
Like you don't know.
You really don't know.
It's super fascinating.
And especially with this city like New York, where you have to walk places and interact with people, you're probably going to run into an ex.
Absolutely.
That's why I thought it was so really totally believable.
Oh, yeah.
Like, I think you'd probably run into more exes.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
But it was also so great the way he, because he's so big and he looks so handsome.
And then he's turning real flomo.
And then the baby's head is like, oh, my God.
I mean, it was really good.
I'd fully forgotten about it.
So I was also like, oh, my God.
And then I was like,
wait, is his wife going to walk out?
Because in, in, and just like that, his wife is played by Rosemary DeWitt, who's married
to Ron Livingston.
Is that right?
In life.
Oh, wow.
Crazy.
But she didn't walk out because I don't think it would have been her because I don't think
she played it back then.
But I don't know if we ever see the woman back then, right?
We didn't in this episode, but I don't know if there's other episodes where we do or don't
or whatever.
I don't honestly know, right, obviously.
I'm rewatching.
I know one episode.
Yeah.
Thank God.
Thank God.
Thank God.
But I thought it was so good.
And I also thought that like, four,
Carrie in that moment, that is real growth.
I think so too.
Yes, that she's not obsessing.
Yes, exactly. And it freed her in a way to get on the payphone and call a little burger.
And just have a casual date and whatever outfit she might be wearing.
Which was adorable.
Yes, it's always adorable.
She doesn't need to wear all the craziness that she wears.
You know what I mean?
Of course, it's a different show if that's not the case.
But this was growth for Carrie, right?
That she lets go of some of her kind of more drum.
elements of, you know, I have to be this way.
I have to do this.
I have to look a certain way to go on a date, whatever.
It's fascinating that we put all these parameters onto ourselves.
Yeah.
Try to be the perfect thing.
And what I've found in a short amount of dating I've done in my life is that there
is the presentation part that everybody gets at the beginning of a relationship.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And then the reality of the people in the relationship.
And then after that, you know, that excitement happens.
And it's like, then you have these two people who are made it,
have made a decision to be in each other's lives.
Yeah.
Then the beauty, I think, starts to happen as opposed to just all the worrying.
And is he going to call or am I going to call?
You know, she going to call.
And, you know, it's like.
And then, yeah, that's when the relationship, I think, begins, like really kind of...
100%. I think now, you know, it's harder because everyone is so on their phones and dating apps and whatever insanity, right?
So sometimes it seems from what people tell me, I have not done that myself, but that they don't get to that next stage, you know, because there's so much kind of distraction.
That's interesting you say that. And maybe I'm presenting an antiquated perspective.
No, no. I think it's a real...
Because I think the proliferation of people being able to just go on date after date, after date, after date, after date, this is purely my opinion, but I don't think you ever get to have real connection.
I think this is what's happening.
This is what people are telling me what's happening.
And I think for some people, maybe that's what they actually want.
I think maybe they're afraid of real connection.
I think that's true.
Some of the young people that I know I feel this way.
But then I also feel at a certain point, I'm hoping that they're going to go through whatever.
whatever they're going through and maybe shift gears, you know, to get to the real stuff,
because the real stuff is the best part anyway.
Exactly.
Right.
All right.
Let's go to Miranda.
Miranda, this is interesting.
So this is when Miranda admits that she's in love with Steve.
Right.
Which back in the last season, she was like, no, no, you know, I'm just, I'm a single mother.
I'm a single mother.
And, you know, he can come and pick the baby up or whatever.
Right.
And now she's, you know, in love with him.
Right, exactly.
And now she's in love with him.
But then she gets all excited.
She's going to tell him at this lovely dinner and this dark restaurant.
And then he's like, but this is funny.
I think what's funny in that scene is that she says to him,
I wanted to tell you why I, you know, pushed you out of the house or whatever.
And he goes, no, no, no, I know.
And she goes, you know.
And she thinks he's going to say, I know that you're in love with me, right?
Because he does really know her well, right?
Yeah.
So he goes, you think I'm getting too close, which is kind of true.
That was true.
Right?
Yeah, I bought that.
Yeah.
And then he goes, but no, you don't have to worry because I'm dating someone new.
So, of course, it's kind of true, but it's not all of the situation.
Which I thought was so interesting because that is also how it is when you know people.
You kind of know enough to be on the right track, but you might not have the whole picture.
A thousand percent, I think it was a real left turn that Miranda could never see coming.
Absolutely.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
Yeah, it almost looked like it was going.
Yeah.
Going in her way.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But we know it's going to work out.
But right now, not.
We don't know.
Okay, okay.
At that point, it's 601.
It's true.
We don't know.
It's true.
It's pretty true.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, I know the broad strokes, but I don't remember how we get there.
So you know more than anybody.

In some ways, no.

Lisa?
We should tell them about our new show.
Oh my God, Lexi, we have a new podcast.
It's called Don't Lie to Me.
I'm Lexi Youanu.
We're two best friends, 22 years apart, but so close at heart.
And I'm Lisa Di Giulio, the old one, which means we have wildly different references,
occasionally different opinions, and at this point in my 50s, I've lived it all.
I'm not going to get anywhere fighting.
That is wild.
I learned that about you today.
Now in my 30s, being the founder of new shoes, good taste is my business.
business and I've always got something to say.
If men were just honest about this, there would be so much more peace in the world.
We're gonna talk about dating, relationships, beauty, getting older, and a little wiser.
We're best friends, but we don't always agree.
Because you told us how accommodating you are.
Obviously I would do what I think I could do to fight the fight, but there's only so much fight I can fight.
Don't lie to me.
Don't lie to me.
Don't lie to me.
Don't lie to me.
Don't lie to me.
Don't lie to me.
Liar.

Join us for a panel of wellness influencers.
What I try to do is faux journal.
I don't know.
Have you guys heard of faux journaling?
Yeah.
It's reading.
reading. So you're, so we don't like to use that word anymore. Okay. A panel of New Yorker cartoonists.
Have you guys done Terry Gross's Peloton class? No! I've been dying too. I'm so sorry. I'm seeing a reading of
Sadako and the thousand paper cranes by Audra McDonald's at the Wonderland Bookstore on 14.
That's crazy. I went to the Wonderland Bookstore yesterday and I heard Nora Jones do a reading of Zero Dark 30.
No way. You have to come to the last bookstore though. Kim Cottrell is reading the guitar tabs.
of yesterday.
A panel of Eurovision participants.
And we do a little Halloween sometimes.
Does the Pope dress up?
He winks on Halloween.
It's right up next to the microphone.
I hear you can almost hear the eyelashes hit each other.
You never seen Italy so quiet as when the Pope gets up to wink on Halloween.

Hi, it's Alec Baldwin this season on my podcast.
the thing I'm speaking with more artists, policymakers, and performers like actor Stephen Root.
I think for me to be any good or for any character actor to be any good, you've got to put
enough of yourself and your empathy for people in it. I'm a people watcher. You see that guy
going down the dream, though, yeah, I can use that. Open Igloo co-founder, Alia Mohamed.
I love staying on top of what is going on in our city, what is going on in city politics, what is on
renter's minds, and taking all of that in all of that in all.
to build a platform that hopefully is going to make New York City better in the long run.
And actress and singer Melissa Eriko.
Partnership took on a whole other meaning when I started making my own work.
It's like you with a great actress or actor.
It was best to come out of your trailer, full of life, and just face another person who's full of life and don't talk.

And then Samantha has this incredibly good-looking stockbroker, dude.
Oh, my God.
Yeah.
I mean, that guy, good Lord.
Who is he?
Where is he?
I don't know.
Not a carb in sight for that guy.
Not a carb in sight.
Good Lord.
Bananas.
I know.
I don't think he eats bananas.
I agree.
But also, I was really curious.
Like, if you did have the situation where this guy, who you really don't know, right,
she just knows in general that he's a stockbroker.
And then he gives you some information.
Like, did she go?
act on that information.
I was like,
run to the phone and buy some stock.
Yeah.
You know?
Samantha,
do it.
Like,
do it right now.
But I don't think she did.
I mean,
we don't know.
They don't tell us.
Well,
we don't know.
Darn it.
Because we're so focused on her
and him getting naked.
Totally.
Totally.
Totally.
Totally.
Which is very pretty.
It's very,
very pretty.
And I was so sad that they come
and the FBI ruins it,
you know,
and they're very nice.
They're very nice.
They're like,
could you take off your handcuffs
so we could use ours.
They're very friends.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, you know. I'm sure it's not the first felon. She's fell falling for.
I mean, who's fallen for? A lot of Fossus. She doesn't. No, she doesn't.
Sorry. It was fun to watch.
Used for sex and been thrown away. Yes, that's what she wants to do. That's what she wants to do.
I mean, I don't even know thrown away. I don't think they want to be. Who knows? It's a, it's a mutually consented upon situation. Of course it is. I just think I think she's breaking
hearts. That's all I'm saying. You think she is? Absolutely. You think they're sad.
The dudes? Yeah. Of course they would be. Got it. Yeah. That's helpful. Yeah. I never thought about that.
I mean. Because it's kind of played like, I mean, the freedom of Samantha is obviously incredible, right? And so much fun to watch as a woman because you're just like, wow, we could be like this. Oh my God. Right. Right. Right. Like the guys, like the guys who are, you know, womanizers or whatever. Right. Right. And so it's kind of like she's there equal.
you know, in terms of that, right?
You never think about that they might be sad.
But sure, maybe they are sad.
I think maybe I think she's, come on.
I guess I hadn't thought about it.
I hadn't thought about it.
Soon Smith Jared's coming.
And I know I had to watch the other episode, right?
So like it's funny because he seems like her equal too, except he's much younger.
But in terms of like the play of it all, but he's not.
He's got deep feelings.
See?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
So I'm not far off?
No, you're not.
You're not.
But he's younger.
So I feel like he just hasn't, like the ones who are her peers, you feel like,
well, they're already like committed to being this way.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, that's true.
Maybe I'm wrong, though.
We never asked them.
Maybe I'm just projecting.
No, no.
Maybe.
Oh, wow.
Maybe.
Maybe.
All right.
So let me tell you that I have this thing that I do at the end, which I really, I know
that it's not fair that haven't given you the BuzzFeed test.
Okay.
I usually ask people, are you a Charlotte?
I don't.
Okay, let me ask you a few questions.
They're not the BuzzFeed questions.
These are my questions.
Okay, go ahead.
Do you believe in love?
Yes.
Okay, great.
Do you like white flowers?
Yes.
Okay.
Are you a good friend?
Yes.
Oh, okay.
Are you like a cheerleader for your friends and family?
Yes, I am.
Oh, see?
Well, you're a Charlotte, babe.
I'm a Charlotte.
Oh, my God.
I love it so much.
So it's a resounding yes.
Yay.
Especially if I can get a straight guy to be a Charlotte.
I'm super excited.
Yay!
Thank you so much for coming.
Thanks for having me.
It was really, really fun.
Yeah, it was fun.
