Hey, this is Hayes Davenport and Sean Clements.
We host the podcast, Hollywood Handbook.
Each week, we talk to someone in show business
and try to help them with their careers
and see what they have to offer us.
Everyone has a good time and no one gets mad at their publicists
for letting them do our show.
We've had a lot of great guests like Sarah Sherman,
Adam Scott, Danny McBride, Ben Stillard,
and a lot of other big shots
that wouldn't be where they are without us.

Hi, I'm Kristen Davis.
And I want to know, are you a Charlotte?
Okay, you guys, this is so exciting.
I have my producer, Hannah Winkleman, is joining me.
Hello.
Hello.
We finally got her in camera.
I know.
It's the first time.
I'm a little camera shy, so I try to stay off.
You're going to do great.
You're going to do great.
We are going to recap, plus one is the loneliest number.
It's a very, very fascinating episode.
It aired August 18, 2002.
It's directed by Michael Patrick King and written by Cindy Shupac.
And the incredible Robert John Burke is in it, who we also have a catching up with friends with.
So we're going to hear from him also this week.
Yeah, he's fantastic.
It's super interesting.
But he hadn't rewatch the episodes.
So since you and I rewatch the episode for today, we're just going to go through it because so much happens.
And so many people are in this episode.
So many.
And such a fun, incredible episode.
I love this one.
I mean, did you think it was fun?
I did.
I felt like it had a sadness underneath it.
I would agree.
It does have a sadness, but I just really loved that it's like Carrie's book launch party.
Like that is so exciting and all the friends are like supporting her.
But I did.
I mean, we'll get into it.
I really love the like plus one of this whole episode and the different dynamics.
It did remind me when we talked to Julian Elisa about how in season five they, the writers had all really wanted Carrie to be alone for a while.
And that I hadn't really in my mind remembered that that was what was going on because season five to me is the pregnancy, you know, season where we're about to go on hiatus unexpectedly so that Sarah Jessica can be pregnant in peace and not trying to pretend she's not pregnant and not working 18 hours a day.
So it was a weird, it was a very weird season for me in my mind.
And watching this episode, I have zero memories, which is really weird.
I mean, I remember outfits, right?
Like what I wear to the book party is like a vintage dress and that Dior is a Dior necklace, the little bow.
But I also was really panicked that my nipples were going to show literally because it's like very low gut.
Do you do you?
Yeah.
That strapless thing.
I was like, is someone watching?
Because if I move, it's going to show.
Like, I was really stressed watching it.
But I also love, like I had not remembered that she had a book party.
I remember literally nothing.
But it's also meta, right?
Because at this point, the show is super successful.
We're having these premiere parties every year.
They're the huge things.
And so it was kind of like a version of that within the show of Carrie's book.
Right.
Honestly, it was so good because it feels very current to today of how popular chemical peels are
the millions of different peals you can get now.
Yeah.
But I'm sure it was like at the time.
At the time.
Right.
Well, when she goes to the dermatologist and he,
he's got the Botox needle and he's holding it like a crazy doctor.
And then the nurse comes up and tells her like you may not be able to register emotions.
But then later on, did you notice that Enid Candace Bergen's character says, I am so angry.
Oh my gosh.
I did not put that together.
That is hilarious.
I did not put that together and thought the, I thought the nurse in that moment was so funny.
Her like straight expression looking at her.
Oh, my God.
So funny and odd.
So funny and odd.
Really funny.
But I think that, that, you know, for us, I remember there being a lot of conversation about Botox.
I at this point, I'm getting Botox for sure.
Because sometimes I'm like, oh, that's not good Botox.
But I don't think I know this at the time, right, the things to look out for.
Like, there's sometimes where like my eyebrows, like, dipping in the other, the end is going up.
Like, it's a little bit scary Botox.
But I don't think I know.
I'm just so excited I can get my, my, my, you.
you know, forehead wrinkles to go away.
I'm like, yes, do it.
You know, I'm not even thinking about it.
But I think Sarah Jessica at the time was like, absolutely not.
So when Carrie, you know, makes her joke or whatever, at one point, she's like, no, you know,
it's very Ser Jessica at the time.
Yeah, very Sarah Jessica.
But I also think it was really so on the, you know, forefront of the times that these things
were becoming common and they now are incredibly common where there's no thought whatsoever.
you're like 22 year olds, you're getting Botox, whatever.
Right.
Because they're being told it's preventative.
And so, I mean, and I don't know if that's actually accurate.
But it is, yeah, it is crazy how common it is.
And it's just like it's in now it's like a regular Tuesday.
Like I have my Botox appointment.
I have my therapy.
Like it's just a normal like add to the to do list.
Totally. I know.
I know.
But I do remember the excitement that I felt.
So I'm not, I'm not totally surprised.
but it is also like a little odd, a little odd,
how incredibly prevalent.
And I mean, for us, I feel like because, you know,
there was a point where, like, I remember,
so the storyline is like you may not be able to register emotion on your face, right?
The writers wrote that in.
They must have been having some feelings, I guess, about it.
But I didn't even pause for a second.
I was like, shoot me up.
Shoot up that forehead.
Shoot that forehead up.
because I've got a million wrinkles.
My forehead never holds still, right?
But then there became a time where I was like, oh, yeah, no, it is weird that you can't move your face.
Like, that is strange.
I need to lay off this.
And my current dermatologist believes in, like, less is more.
So definitely there came a time in my own, you know, understanding of it or awareness of it, I guess, where I was like, oh, no, I do need to move my face.
But at this point in time, I'm like, no, no, no, I don't want to move the face.
Yeah, I mean, I've only done Botox one time.
And it was before my wedding and I was like kind of getting closer and closer.
And I was like, if I don't do it now, like, what if I don't like it sort of thing?
And I did it.
And I had a friend's wedding that I was a bridesmaid in.
And I remember looking at photos of myself that day because I had just gotten it like the week before.
And I was like, why does my smile look like that?
Why does I, why do I look crazy in a sense?
No way.
You could tell?
I could tell.
And luckily by my wedding, I felt like it had worn down enough and settled.
Let me ask you.
it the thing because there's this thing that happens where your upper face doesn't move when you
smile? Was it that? Or had they done your your crows? They did my crows feet. And so I almost
think it was like my eyebrows in a way. Like they didn't move or whatsoever. And it was the first
time I had done it. So I just even I still can't look at myself and my friends wedding photos. I
totally understand. And so it made me panic for my own wedding. That I was like, am I going to look like
this in those photos? Because my wedding was a month later. But luckily it did settle. And I did end up loving
it once it settled, I was like, this is kind of really nice to me. Yeah, you don't need it, baby.
I know. I do have some crow's feet, but it's, you know, it's fun. Croce feet are also laugh lines.
You know what I'm saying? It's true. It's true. Like it's, you know, you laugh. I'm at the point of my life too right now that I'm fine.
Definitely, definitely. No, I quit with the crow's feet right away because it did affect my smile as well.
Like it just didn't, like, sometimes I just think it messes with the architecture of your face in a way that's like wacky, right? So you have to figure out for yourself like what's good, what's bad, whatever.
Right.

See you between the pages.
On the new podcast Solita, we share the messy reality of traveling alone as a woman.
I can wait four hours for the next bus, or this random dude is offering.
bring me a ride on his motorcycle. I chose option B. I'm Julie Pinero, and I travel by myself because
it's a rare space where I can say yes without asking anyone else first. I'm on a mission to reclaim
the word solita, trading the pity for possibility. Every time I tried to be alone, I kept
meeting people, and they were like, you smiled at us. Not a lot of people smile around here.
It's when you're alone that you're most receptive to the world as it is, and not the lies you're
sold about it. It can be a time where you push your limits, change your mind, or wake up to a new
version of yourself. So whether you're a solo travel veteran or you're too nervous to book your
first trip, I hope you listen to Solita on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get
your podcasts. All right. So we're going to do our Hyundai Hot Take for episode 505 plus one is the
loneliest number. And this is a challenge, but I'm going to go with Marra.
Miranda at the end of the episode with baby Brady when it's really the first time that we see her
kind of bonding with the baby and being happy with it.
Like the baby is her plus one is basically what it's saying.
And it's so beautifully shot.
And Cynthia looks so beautiful.
And the baby's so incredibly cute.
And it's the first time that we kind of feel the joy of Miranda becoming a mother.
I mean, I think I felt it a little when she had the baby,
but it's her really embracing it and being present with him
and being together with him.
And it's just such an interesting way to see her in a different light.
So I really love that moment.
And it's celebrating iconic moments, bold moves,
and unforgettable style, just like Hyundai.
So let's talk about Carrie,
because the other really fun thing in this episode is that we meet Burger.
I know.
And I had fully, fully forgotten about how they meet.
And it's so adorable.
They meet in Amy Sedaris's office, her character's office, which is Carrie's book editor.
And he's adorable.
He is adorable.
I did find it interesting.
He just like barges right into like someone's office.
I was like, oh, he's comfortable there.
Very comfortable.
I mean, also he's very quick with the quips.
You know what I'm saying?
Like you can see the writer attraction, right?
And he is so different.
like he seemed so normal.
Yes.
It's almost shockingly normal.
Yeah.
For sure.
Which is really interesting because at the time, Ron is in Band of Brothers and Band of Brothers.
I feel like Band of Brothers had been on because that's what I did after 9-11 when I was
stuck and I couldn't get out of New York.
I sat and watched Band of Brothers.
So Band of Brothers was kind of like a big deal, you know, for all.
all those guys, right?
And so Damien Lewis is also in Band of Brothers with Ron.
And it was between Damien Lewis and Ron.
For the part of Burger.
Yes.
Oh, wow.
I know this because I knew them and because they came to the set and I, you know,
went to find them and, you know, we were on location somewhere strange and they had to find
their way or whatever.
And I, no offense, Ron.
I really wanted Damien personally.
And I could not understand why Michael Patrick did not cast.
Damien.
Yeah.
When I watch it, I'm like, of course he didn't cast Damien.
Like, Ron is perfect.
He's so normal.
Yeah.
He's not like the other guys that Carrie's been with at all.
Not at all.
He's so normal.
It's very refreshing to see this just like, cool dude kind of.
Yes.
Just so casual.
Carrie is not with anyone who's been casual.
No, it's fully, fully different.
And I didn't really understand that.
At the time, Michael Patrick said that he didn't want the character to be British
and that he thought that Damien was weird when he did his American accent.
Not weird, but whatever.
It was strange for Michael to hear Damien do American at the time accent.
And that's what hung him up or whatever.
And at the time, I was super frustrated with Michael Patrick about this.
But now I see it.
I'm like, well, this makes perfect sense.
He knows what he's doing at Michael Patrick.
100% he knows what he's doing.
And it's just so adorable.
But also, I've forgotten everything about the same.
storyline that they share Amy Sedaris's book editor character, right?
And that he has a book that came out last year, but it was a comic book for men?
What?
Yeah.
Like, what?
It's like a comic book about relationships for men.
But then he's like, well, the only problem is men don't buy graphic novels or
whatever.
I was like, what on earth?
So then they go, they're having this like incredibly flirtatious date that's not a date.
that they leave Amy's office.
Her name's not Amy, but whatever.
I'm just going to call her Amy.
Yes.
We know what you're talking about.
And they go and they sit on the bench and they're just flirting nonstop.
I mean, it's like flirty, flirty, flirty.
But she's not the one driving the flirty.
That's what also was interesting.
I agree that it makes so much sense why she's confused as soon as he says he has a girlfriend.
All of a sudden, yeah, she finally like gets up the nerve to say like, would you be my plus one?
Because that is the theme of the episode that she doesn't have a plus one.
A lot of us don't have plus ones at the time.
And he's like, oh, no, I can't because my girlfriend's parents are here.
It's the worst shock.
Oh, my God.
And for me, because I didn't remember any of this, that would have basically been like,
like he's out.
Like he would not.
I would, in life, I would just be like, no, that person is there's something wrong with that person.
Yeah.
There's moments, too, that I agree with Carrie that I was just like,
there were many opportunities in that conversation to like.
bring up that he has a significant other.
So, so many, so many.
And he seems fully single.
Yes, he does.
That's what I mean.
It's like mixed message central.
But also then the way he casually, like he doesn't go, oh, I'm sorry.
I should have mentioned I have a girlfriend.
Like he's just like, oh, no, I can't because it's just very, he's like out of sync a little bit.
Yeah.
That he's that flirtatious.
And yet he lives with a girl.
But they are soon to break up as we know because he does stay around.
but now I'm like, wait, what happens?
Like, now I don't remember what happens.
I know.
And I just, yes, I agree with you.
The way he, like, brings it up and so casually, but she, and then even, you know,
Carrie's like, but we're breaking up soon and like the next thing when she's talking with the girls about it.
Like, no mention of that.
And I was like, yeah, like, I feel like the way he was acting was kind of like, maybe that is the case.
I don't blame her for thinking that way because it's just such mixed message.
I'm pretty sure.
But then obviously this is the guy who breaks up, but they're on a post-it.
Like, the signs were there, I think.
Right.
Right.
It is kind of almost a red flag to then try and date this person after that's how they're so acting casually with you, another single woman that he just met.
Who's very red flag.
Yeah.
And he's so like, like when he comes to the book party, because then he comes, even though he tells her that he can't come.
And he's like, you look amazing.
And I'm just like, oh, dude.
what's happening?
I know.
I didn't remember any of this at all.
But yet he's so normal seeming.
Yes.
It's not like he's a player.
Right.
I know, I know.
I don't get the player vibes from him at all.
But it, yeah, like now being an outsider looking back and what we know it was coming.
Right.
Now that we know, exactly.
Yes.
It is.
It's like, oh, that is a red flag.
And that's a red flag.
But this happens every day with women dating.
You miss these, you miss these red flags or these moments.
And you don't think further into.
them. Right, because also I feel for Carrie, because Carrie's like, I never spark with people and you're
like, wait, she never sparks with people? Because like, I don't know that that's actually true, right?
Because if you think about like the beginning of the show, like, remember the guy who throws
the cigarette at her on the street and they end up dating. She literally sparks with everyone.
Like, I don't know if that's wrong. Like, I don't mean to say that in a bad way. But like,
she's very sparkly. She's very sparky. She sparks with like a lot of people. But I think because,
of the big and Aiden, there's been so she's just been stuck in that for so long. So then when she's
like, oh, I never spark with anyone, I think the reality is it's amazing to spark with someone new.
Right? Like that's the amazing part. It feels like a miracle. So then you don't want to discount it
by going like, well, wait, these are red flags, right? Right. It does feel so good to spark.
Like surprise. Like you're in your editor's office. The guy walks in the editor's office and you spark.
Like it's an amazing thing. Absolutely.
Absolutely. Absolutely. I think it's just so easy to get lost as soon as you do have those feelings.
You know, she's even like with the girls like, I don't even remember what he looks like,
because I just remember the feeling that you're like, oh, she's, she's in this.
Yeah, that was really interesting. I don't remember what he looks like. I'm like, what is happening?
Carrie, who are you?
Well, on that note, can I say I thought it was so out of character for her to be eating McDonald's?
What on earth?
I was just like, what? This is not the Gary Bradshaw we know.
I agree totally. It was weird. I was like, is this a product placement? I had weird thoughts.
I didn't really have product placement. So I don't understand how that would be true. You don't
I'm saying? We did, there was a McDonald's downtown near where we were often in the we hours shooting and near Perry Street, basically near Carrie's apartment.
And we would at like 3 a.m. or whatever, because it stayed open really late, we would be like, is it time?
And it would be time to get the fries.
And it was very exciting.
But that was all we got that I remember.
That was all I got.
I think that was all anybody got.
But I don't know because she also, wait, is it the other episode that she eats the, no, she's a hot dog, which is very Sarah Jessica.
Like one of my first memories of her, separate from her inviting me to her trailer and eating the Krispy cream,
because I'd been on Melrose where no one ate, right?
So, like, it was just so incredible to be around someone who ate, you know?
And literally everyone there ate, which was amazing, probably with the exception to me, right?
But it was just so great.
Like, she and Cynthia are very foody, like, where are we going?
Where do we getting?
And one of my first memories is that she was in the makeup trailer and the PA said, you know,
what would you like for lunch?
Because they would go out and round things up for us.
And she said,
Gray's papaya,
which is hot dogs,
but we were not close to gray's papaya.
And the PA laughed because they thought she's this tiny,
skinny little thing.
She can't mean that.
But she was like,
no,
no,
I'm serious.
And they were like,
oh,
okay.
And I think she ordered like two or three.
So it's really funny that they wrote that in because that's Sarah right there.
I love that.
The McDonald's,
I don't know.
I don't know what happened there.
I mean, yeah, it's all very, like, it's an interesting episode.
I know.
I do sometimes think Carrie is a bit of a chameleon, too, with who she's dating.
And so I feel like this is almost just a sign of that coming again.
That she likes him and he's normal.
I agree.
In all my time in New York, I can't remember anyone that I was ever with being like,
let's go to McDonald's.
Like, strange.
You don't know.
Other than the, you know, middle of the night working, right?
But, like, you're just, like, out of your mind when you're in the middle of the night.
working. You're just like anything
fun. You know what I mean?
But yeah, no, I can't remember.
But I think it also says something about Burger
and like how we're saying he's just such a
casual guy. He's like, hey, let's just grab
McDonald's. Totally.
Totally. But he is really
charming. Which is very charming.
Because I only remember kind of towards the end.
You know, when he's, it's not that he's not charming
but he's, we know him better
and he's a little less charming,
I guess, like as time goes on.
But man, when we get him in here, I mean, it is like, wow.
Yeah.
It is, I was like, wow, this is a very charming, normal guy.
Yeah.
But also smart, like the word play and everything.
And Michael Patrick, this is so Michael Patrick to me.
Like, they love the words.
You know what I'm saying?
Yeah.
Like they talk about the words and what word is funnier.
And, you know, he tells a story.
And what does he say?
Like, crotch.
Yeah.
She's like, I can't believe you're saying crotch to me.
And then he says it with a different word.
She's like, yeah, not it's funny.
like they have a little writer, you know, repartee.
Yeah.
Yes, it's cute.
It's really, really cute.
But I do feel a little bit bad for her that she has no plus one to her own book party.
And I mean, this is someone who often does not have a plus one too, so maybe that's why I relate.
But I'm like, if that is, it is a little sad.
But also, it is amazing that you have this amazing thing.
And I love when she questions, like, you know, when you have all these amazing things,
but you don't have a plus one, why does that matter more than all the amazing things you have?
Right.
I also, I guess I don't really know.
I think it's different for everybody.
But I also think this is such a big moment in her life that I wouldn't want just a random to like look back.
Like I want my girlfriends, right?
No, not at all.
Arrived with my girlfriends.
The people who I will like remember they're supporting me.
But do you see how we don't arrive together?
It's really interesting.
It is. Yeah.
It's really interesting.
And I don't know if it was like, because back then,
the idea of like the girl group was not as prevalent, you know,
which is partly why we focus on it so much, right?
But I also think that when you're doing one of these type events,
they send the car for you.
Like it's,
it's isolating a little bit.
You know what I mean?
And we're all coming from our other places.
Like you would have had to say,
hey, everyone come to my house first,
which seems a little bit like college or something.
Yeah, I understand that.
Like it's a bit like not like us.
But also Samantha's gone in like,
tortured her face. So there's that.
Well, Samantha being the publicist,
should be there waiting for her. Oh my God. I know. That part was killing me.
That part was killing me. I was like, wait,
she put this whole party on, and then she got the chemical appeal.
And then she just comes as her guest, kind of,
which is weird. And then when they're talking to the guy from the New Yorker,
why doesn't Samantha know who that guy is?
Like, we take a turn there. We take a turn that I think was not
possibly super informed.
Do you do you mean?
Yes.
Because if Samantha was a good publicist,
she would know who that guy was.
Right, absolutely.
Like, what on earth?
She probably should have been the one
that invited him.
Yes, invited him and should have been there
like sending to him
and making sure that Carrie's talking to him
and not like, it was weird.
That was a weird scene.
I thought so too.
I thought it, yes, I agree.
It was a weird scene.
It was a weird scene.
And I also feel like,
why didn't we help?
the writers somehow do you mean?
Yeah.
Understand how that should go.
I don't know what happened.
I don't know what happened.
Drop the ball a little bit there, I would say.
But that's okay.
It's rare.
It's rare.
But yeah, the whole Samantha thing, incredibly funny.
I guess maybe because this is a newer thing,
I'm like, wouldn't this doctor have told her and like given her like a full picture of what to expect?
And like, hey, your face is going to look very red for a few days.
So don't do this.
if you have something big coming up.
I will say though that I have had, I have had, I mean, I'm so worried now about everything
that I ever do.
But I do feel in the beginning that people would just be like, oh, yeah, do this.
It'll be fine.
You know what I mean?
Like it was kind of the beginning of all of it, right?
And it wasn't because everyone reacts so differently, but I feel like they didn't seem to
really realize that.
Do you know what I mean?
Yeah, that makes sense.
Like it's fine.
And so-and-so did it.
It was fine.
You know, my assistant did it.
I remember I went to this one dermatologist in New York who, like the whole office, here, this is a good story.
So this is when cool sculpting.
Is that what it was called?
Kett had just come out.
And he was like, you've got to get this cool sculpting.
It's amazing.
Everyone in the office has done it.
I did my love handles.
Everyone's doing it.
It's so great.
And I'm like, well, I don't know what part I would do.
Like, will it work on my thighs?
And he was like, not so much.
you know. And I said, well, I feel like my arms are kind of big.
Could I do it on my arms? He's like, yeah, definitely, definitely.
We could do it on your arms. So I'm like, okay, great. Let's, let's do it.
And so, and I mean, this is one of those things. Like, I didn't really do my research or anything, right?
You know what I mean? But he was like, everyone's doing it in the office. Everyone's done it.
So I go and he had this doctor in his practice who was in charge of doing the cool sculpting, cool sculpting.
And it was great because he was an actual MD. He's still my doctor. This guy's name is Dr. Adams. I love him very much.
Hello, Dr. Adams.
So I go and he's like, wait, I don't understand.
What are we doing?
And I'm like my arms.
See my arms.
I really don't like my arms.
And he's like, I don't think that the cup is even going to fit on there.
I don't think there's enough fat to fit the cup on.
This is like 10, 15 years ago.
And I'm like, well, just try.
So he puts this like plastic kind of like gripping cup.
He's trying to like push it on my arm.
And then the machine starts up and it's like,
r-r-r-r-r-r.
And it's kind of like sucking on your.
your arm and he's he's like taking my pulse and checking on it and my arm turns blue.
And he's like, I'm sorry, we're stopping right now.
And I'm like, thank you so much.
I know.
And later on, this is the one that Linda Vangelista had all the horrible side effects from.
Oh, wow.
I know, which is a rare case.
I don't mean to scare everyone.
But like, it was just the kind of thing where like I was in the office and he's like,
everyone's doing it.
It's amazing.
And I'm like, okay, let's do my arm fat.
You know what I'm saying?
Like casual like that.
So it didn't, that part didn't ring totally false to me for the time.
Well, who also knows if like Samantha even would have cared or heard that, right?
Like Samantha just does what she wants to do and it's like, oh, something new and exciting that
people like, you know.
Totally. Totally.
So she probably would have done it anyways.
She would have done it before the event.
That's the real point, right?
Right.
But I do feel like, too, they were just like, oh, this will be great.
You'll look great.
Like there are people who go the day of my dermatologist was just telling me in New York that
someone had called her on the weekend saying, I have an event Monday.
night, can I come see you Monday? And she was like, well, first of all, I'm booked. Second of all,
like, are you sure? I mean, I think there are like little baby things you could do, but like,
I don't, I don't roll like that. You know what I'm saying? I'm, I'm super careful, obviously.
Okay. So Miranda has had the baby and she's at work one day, very excited to be at work,
which I really love that little, little note. And Walker Lewis, who's Robert John Burke's character,
calls her back up. He's been traveling. He was the great sex.
she'd had when she was pregnant, but she didn't tell him she was pregnant.
Yeah.
So he doesn't know if she'd had a baby.
He calls her and he says, what's new?
And she's like, nothing.
Can I just say, though, as soon as he, like, his voice is so sexy that when he, like, she's
talking to him on the phone, I was like, oh, I kind of get.
Oh, I totally get it.
No, nothing's new.
I totally get it.
It's just hysterical.
I mean, listen, I'm a single mom.
I get it.
I get it.
You think you're never going to date again.
You think it's over.
You think you're never going to have sex again.
you think a lot of things,
you know what?
Especially with the first one.
I mean,
someone pursued me after Gemma came to my life,
like maybe five months in it.
I was just so shocked that someone pursued me
that I was like, okay.
And then I was like, no, this is not going to work.
This person needs way too much attention.
I have a little baby at home.
You know, it's a lot.
Because it's weird when you're not with the person who, you know,
you're a single parent.
It is strange.
So I totally get it.
I totally get it.
but it is pretty funny that she somehow thinks she can go have sex with this guy.
And Brady's not going to wake up.
Like, it's so crazy but funny.
But you totally can see why she thinks this.
I know, but I just,
I love the lunch with the girls when she's telling the girls.
Like she didn't tell him.
And she's like, well, if he would have specifically said,
have you had a child, I would have said, define recently.
Like, I loved that.
I thought that was so good.
She's very funny.
And this is the very kind of like,
you know, meme worthy.
Mommy's coming.
Mommy's coming.
And then Walker says,
I don't think I can do this.
I told you I'm not a baby guy,
which is pretty funny.
But when she goes, Mommy's coming, Mommy's coming.
It's pretty funny and weird.
It's so good.
Yeah.
But then when she goes and picks them up,
it's dreaming.
It really is.
I love this Miranda moment.
It's just like the connection and her just like being like,
it's us now.
Well, I think that's the first time we've seen it.
Right?
Because the rest of the time she's like,
I don't know how to carry this thing,
this car seat and it's like a pan bag.
And feeling left out and like her old life has gone.
That it was like I loved this moment from Miranda.
And it was so beautifully filmed.
Right.
And she looks so gorgeous and the baby's so cute.
So cute. Oh my gosh.
It's really, really good.
So good.
I mean, there are times when I watch the show and I'm like,
everyone's so good.
Yes.
That was one of those moments.

When I was 14 years old, I was kidnapped and held captive for nine months.
I survived, and I've seen.
I spent my life exploring how other people survive what should have destroyed them.
I'm Elizabeth Smart, and these are the Survivor Files.
I just remember this low, taunting voice next to my ear saying, shut up, don't say anything.
Every week, I'm with survivors who lived through the unthinkable.
I knew if he woke up, without a doubt, he was going to hurt me.
I started feeling that there was someone at the end of my book.
bed and I just started screaming.
They are abducted, stalked, controlled, and nearly silenced.
But these aren't stories about what's taken from them.
There's stories about what it takes to make it out alive.

See you between the pages.
Hey, this is Hayes, Davenport.
And Sean Clements.
We host the podcast, Hollywood Handbook, on the Big.
big money players network.
Our show is extremely accessible to first time listeners.
Each week we talk to someone in show business, aka the biz, and try to help them with their
careers and see what they have to offer us.
Everyone has a good time and no one gets mad at their publicists for letting them do our show.
We've had a lot of great guests like Sarah Sherman, not that great.
Actually, can you help me shape this?
How about we flip it on his head, right?
How about we flip this script?
Okay.
What is the surprise woman?
Actually, you think is the straight man is actually the one who's acting weird.
Adam Scott, this entire time you've been expecting Adam Sandler to come to visit the show.
I would never expect.
I would never set expectations for something like that to happen.
If the universe allows for something like that to happen, I'm open to it.
I'm always going to accept.
You know, Danny McBride, fine.
Yeah.
It's all this fragile masculinity exuding.
I could smell it walking down the hallway, to be honest with you.
I was like, is that weed?
Nope, it's fragile masculinity.
Ben Stiller, no.
Because a lot of times out of context, people don't get it or even know what a circle is.
You know what I mean?
They're like, oh, what's a state.
Everyone's so dumb.
And fake.
Right, fake and also not interested.
Or just like, oh, I've got my life.
I don't care about your life.
And a lot of other.
big shots that wouldn't be where they are without us. Oh, and by the way, Will Ferrell told us personally
he loves the show and he wants to be a guest on every episode, but he's just so busy.
Listen to Hollywood Handbook on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
podcasts. Back to the rest of it all. So Samantha's doing the crazy thing to her face and then
acting really funny in that hat. That was pretty funny. I do vaguely remember this, but I hadn't
remembered where or when it happened. It's also funny to see Mario running around without me.
I'm like, wait, what's Mario doing?
I know, I love that he planned the party, but it was very funny.
I was like, is he trying to like, he's like, everything white, everything white.
I know.
I was like, wait, is it a wedding?
I know.
But I think that's what we were supposed to think.
I think it was like a misdirect, right?
But then it's also funny because Willie comes, Stanford comes with the boyfriend who we're going to have on soon, you guys.
It's going to be very exciting.
We're going to talk to Sean.
It's going to be great.
Sean Palmer, Sean Palmer.
And clearly, Willie really wants Marry.
to be jealous.
This is when I think the seed is planted for that they end up later on together.
You know what I mean?
Because it's not going to be okay for Willie if Mario wasn't jealous.
Right.
But sorry, Mario slash Anthony.
Anthony, thank you.
Sometimes I can't remember their fake names.
He doesn't care.
He's hitting on some waiter.
Yeah.
He's so funny.
He's so him.
I know.
So him.
And then my storyline, as I told you guys, I was like, who's that blonde guy?
I have no idea.
I don't remember him.
I'm sorry.
I don't remember that Charlotte sleeps with him.
What on earth?
In her apartment that was Trays and then Bunny shows up.
I didn't remember any of this.
I just the fact that, I mean, it is like crazy mother-in-law.
I guess it's technically her apartment still, but her just waltzing in.
Horrible.
Yeah.
Horrible.
That is horrifying.
Horrifying.
I felt like I should have reacted bigger.
I mean, I don't know.
It's like a tough, yeah, I guess in a sense, like, you'd be shocked,
but at the same time, it's like your mother-in-law, that your ex-mother-in-law, I guess.
It's awkward.
It's awkward.
It's awkward.
Yeah.
I thought you did a good job.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Like, this is, you know, kicking her out essentially.
Yeah, for sure.
For sure.
Well, it's also funny that we have a little thing across that table.
That table's seen a lot of action.
It has.
in my hallway, you know what I mean?
Which we still had in and just like that.
And I was really, I was like, thank God this table here.
Very important.
It does get bigger somehow.
We used to be little and then it got bigger.
But we always had it.
We always have our white flowers on it.
So I was happy to see that.
But also I was like, who's that dude?
I have no idea.
And why do I show my side boob?
Oh, yeah.
I mean, what?
Yeah.
Over me.
I think it was because Michael Patrick was directing and he has a way of making you feel
comfortable.
Right.
that you can show things or whatever.
He has such an artistic style too that it wasn't like, oh, here's a boob shot.
Like I felt like it was a very artistic shot.
It was very pretty.
Totally.
Pass.
And yeah.
Yeah, I was like, what is happening?
I don't remember one little bit of this.
And who's that guy?
No idea.
No idea.
How does Charlotte meet him?
We don't know.
But then it doesn't work out because he's not down with the fact that she's not, not
divorced.
Yeah.
I feel like he was really jarred by Bunny being in there more than maybe.
Right, right, right.
Good point.
Good point.
But then also I like when I'm at the book party with Carrie kind of towards the end.
And we're talking about how people don't want to admit things.
And I say like, you know, I don't want to say I'm getting divorced.
You know, it's a good little moment.
It's a good little moment with the two of us.
I liked that a lot.
And I love that Candace is there.
I had fully forgotten this.
I know.
Sometimes I see a picture of Candace, Sarah,
and myself in these outfits, but I didn't know where, when and where it happened.
Oh, yeah.
So it places it all better for me.
It was super, super fascinating.
And I love when we can bring everyone together.
And I love that Isaac Masrahi was here.
We love Isaac.
Yeah, so fun.
We knew Isaac.
We love Isaac.
Do you remember his documentary?
I know.
Okay, they're releasing it.
And you should definitely watch it.
It is so good.
And it was kind of in the early days where people didn't really know that much about fashion.
I feel like with social media, people know a lot more about fashion.
and what goes into fashion week
and what goes, you know,
from the designer perspective,
all the work and all the creativity.
And Isaac is super creative and fascinating.
I love that little cameo that he...
I know.
It's really, really good.
And I can't remember if we knew him before.
I feel like we knew him before this.
And then just asked him to come be himself.
Yeah.
Because basically she's Anna Wintor, basically,
and he's himself.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
Which, you know, obviously, I guess.
But it was just really fun to see so many people
in and around our world, right?
Like it was kind of like our world, like, expanded, you know?
Yeah, absolutely.
And that's really fun.
And I think such a great, great Michael Patrick directing, you know,
because he pulls it all together so well.
Yeah.
I actually, I know, like you feel like it had a sat on your tumble.
I actually really like this episode.
I thought there was, like, a good, a lot that there were, like, really good moments in it.
I agree.
I agree, totally.
I think for me, it's like an in-between.
right? I think it's an in-between kind of a thing. And I think it's in-between partly because of the
pregnancy of it all, right? Yeah. Because like that was on all of our minds, right? But I think also
just for Carrie, Carrie's single. So it doesn't, it's hard. Like when I place Carrie, if I think
about Carrie's storylines, it's big Aden, Berger, Petrovsky. You know what I'm saying? I have,
that's how I, so this is like a no man's land. But that's what they wanted to do. And we needed that.
We needed Carrie to not be drawn up in, you know, some romance drama, right?
Just to try to be by herself.
But it is interesting that she, that it, that it's not enough.
You know, I like that.
I like that she's struggling with that.
Yeah.
It is.
I, I like that it's like a big moment in her life and her career.
And she's like, and at the top of her career and that she doesn't.
And it is interesting talking, you know, that scene of her at lunch with Enid being like,
you have it all.
And she's like, well, that made me so sad.
I think that's why I'm sad.
I think that's why I'm sad.
I think that's partly why I'm sad because like the, the realities of being successful and being alone, it can be hard, right?
Because like, you want to share those big moments, right?
But then you don't necessarily know who you're supposed to share it with or whatever.
You know what I mean?
It's weird.
It's weird.
Yes.
But then it's also as long, like, I'm like,
I just love that she wasn't like newly dating somebody that could have like been a dramatic moment and taken away from that big moment.
I mean, this is true.
This is true.
Do you remember when Mary Beth Barone came on and was like, I want a boyfriend?
And everyone keeps telling me I shouldn't want a boyfriend.
And I was like, why do you want a boyfriend?
Like you're doing, everything is going great.
She's like, I just want to go to a party and kiss someone afterwards.
And I was like, I totally understand.
Yeah, I get that.
But also you should just be going to the party and enjoying all of your, the fruits of your labor.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, absolutely.
But it is, I get it both.
I get it both.
But it's hard to find the right.
person to be bringing in those situations.
Yes.
That's what you're saying.
Like you don't want just Joe Schmoe, whatever, to come to an important event.
No, not one is such a big moment and then like all your photos and all that.
Totally.
And then, you know, years down the line, you're like, who's that guy?
Yeah.
Or like, or something really goes wrong in the relationship and you have a bad taste in your
mouth for that person.
Oh, that would be horrible.
And then they're like in all your big moments.
Good point, Hannah.
Very smart.
Very smart.
I do like that she was, I get why she's struggling.
But I do like that she was single.
It's growth.
It's growth for Carrie.
For sure.
Definitely.
Which is really important, you know.
Yeah.
Okay.
Thank you, Hannah.
Of course, this was fun.
This was fun, really fun.
