Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard - Listen Now: BETH’S DEAD

Episode Date: October 30, 2025

Monica Padman (cohost of the Armchair Expert Podcast) always wondered why her favorite podcasters, Elizabeth Laime and Andy Rosen, abruptly ended their show years ago. When she finally g...ot the chance to ask them in person, she assumed they'd say the usual - they got burnt out or busy with other things, but the truth was a story so shocking and creepy that she knew they had to make a show about it. What she couldn’t have expected is that in listening to their true life cautionary tale, she'd take on the role of a real-life Nancy Drew helping them unravel a mystery they thought was long behind them.  Listen now wherever you get your podcasts.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Starting point is 00:00:00 Introducing Beth's Dead, a new kind of true crime podcast. Parassocial relationships are seemingly unavoidable these days, whether with our favorite YouTubers, influencers, or podcasters. And sometimes those relationships can become a two-way street. Beth's Dead is a 10-episode limited series exploring what happened to two podcasters when that all went terribly wrong. I'm Monica Padman, co-host and producer of the Armchair Expert Podcast. If you listen to Armchair, you've probably heard me talk about my favorite podcasters. Elizabeth and Andy from Nobody's Listening, right? Elizabeth and Andy are my go-to comfort podcasters, and they've been a constant in my ears since 2010.
Starting point is 00:00:48 So it was really upsetting when in 2016 they just all of a sudden stopped podcasting. It was so abrupt, and I always wonder. what happened. And when I finally had the chance to ask them about it in person, I was shocked. It's a crazy story. It involves Elizabeth and Andy having their locks changed, the LAPD stepping in, and the death of a listener. When we started this project, our goal was to tell that story, but it ended up taking us on a new path we never could have imagined. Here's a quick glimpse of what's to come on Beth's dead. Elizabeth, I wish I could give you a hug so bad right now. My husband told me that you, Elizabeth, I'm surprised who I'm not heard from you about this development.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Do I worry for you? Hello, Elizabeth. One K is absolutely important to the amount of it. Are you all right, all right, all right, right, right, right, right, right. I was also responding to all these people who would write in with questions. Oh my God. The subject of the email is, you may be. recognize my vagina. I went through my notes this morning, and I was getting teary-eyed, how upsetting it was.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Revisiting this has made me uneasy, and then I'm like, if I'm going to find out a bunch of bad shit, is it going to make me feel more unease? This feels dangerous. I wish I hadn't gotten involved beyond just the podcast. Find Beth's Dead wherever you get your podcast with new episodes coming out weekly.
