Starting point is 00:00:36 Today's episode is a dark dreams episode. For those that are unaware, Dark Dreams episodes are older episodes remastered into larger collections with some nice and calming rain sounds in the background to help you just kind of relax. So sit back, close your eyes if you can, and just take in the scariness that is our existence.
Starting point is 00:00:58 And hopefully you sleep. Well, these events started when I was a kid, but also, as recent as two years ago. I grew up in a very small town. The neighborhood I lived in was the largest one in the area, and on top of the houses, we had one grocery store and one gas station. Yes, it was that small. But we did have a firehouse that had a pop machine in front of it, then a lot of us kids liked to go get a drink and hang out.
Starting point is 00:01:31 out. The firemen there were always very nice to us kids and pretty much watched over us. There were another couple of people that cared for us kids, too. That was the Henderson's that lived close to the firehouse. We had to pass their home to get there. During spring and summer, we often saw them outside doing something in their yards. Miss Henderson, I think her first name was Diane, was usually cleaning up her garden beds near her windows. Mr. Henderson, or Gary, could be found riding around on his ancient-looking lawnmower or doing something on the side of the house, where his shed was.
Starting point is 00:02:13 I liked to go over there a lot as a kid. Diane made the best butterscotch cookies, and would send me home with some. Gary seemed to be a nature enthusiast. He would always point out berries and leaves that were safe to eat, gave tips on how to identify them, and even showed me how to make a strong rope out of dried vines. I loved learning so many things from him.
Starting point is 00:02:40 But then I experienced death for the first time in my life. Mr. Henderson had passed away. The neighborhood felt a bit emptier and a bit quieter without his presence. But it seemed even more empty by the fact that Ms. Henderson seemed to become more reclusive and withdrawn. She was rarely out in her yard, and when I did see her, she was never smiling. She never acknowledged me. She wouldn't look at me, or wave. I remember asking my parents about it, and they explained how she was probably still hurting,
Starting point is 00:03:18 and then everyone coped with grief differently. But the best thing to do was to give her space. Gary was important to me, but I didn't understand death quite so well as an adult. and why she was so sad. But I took my parents' advice and stopped trying to get her attention when I passed by. But after a few months of much of the same, curiosity had gotten the best of me, and I felt sorry for her. So I made her a card in school during our free time, and I wanted to give it to her hoping that it might cheer her up. Once I got off the bus, I walked backwards towards her house.
Starting point is 00:04:01 house and knocked on the door. No one answered. I looked through the window by the door and noticed the house looked quite messy. It was an unusual sight because, when I had been over, their home was always spotless, reminding me very much of my own grandparents' house. After standing there for some time, I thought I would try the backyard, thinking maybe she was out back. I walked through the gate and called out for Miss Hentner.
Starting point is 00:04:31 No answer. I walked towards a rose bushes when I saw something run past me, causing me to look over. What I saw scared me. It looked human. I didn't see fur, just pale skin. But they were also completely nude and running on all fours. When I looked over, they were just running behind the shed towards the back corner of the yard. I was pretty well freaked out being a young child.
Starting point is 00:05:01 child, and not knowing what I saw, and probably a little embarrassed that this person was naked. I immediately ran back to the gate, still closing it, and I ran all the way home. Since my parents told me I should leave her be, I didn't tell them what I saw. I never did. I never tried to see Miss Henderson after that day. I found it hard to even look over at her home, afraid that I would see that thing again. Over time, I never heard people, including my parents, bring up the Henderson's ever again. It was like they just disappeared. Years later, my family moved out of that town and somewhere with more schooling options.
Starting point is 00:05:47 That was the summer before I would have started high school. Since we moved, I excelled in my high school, made some great friends, and really solidified what I wanted to do with my career. Honestly, the Hendersons in that town were in the past by now. But during a graduation party, a lot of us reminisced on our childhoods, and things that we missed or didn't quite understand. That's when I remembered what I experienced after Gary's passing. It stayed in the back of my mind until the party came to an end. I wanted to see my old childhood home. I asked my girlfriend if she wanted to be.
Starting point is 00:06:28 to join me, and she excitedly agreed. So we drove to my neighborhood and stopped in front of our old home. Someone lived there at the time, as there were children's toys in the yard, and it had been painted a pale blue. It looked good and well taken care of. But then I was curious about the Henderson's home. At the party, I only told my friends about them and the things they did. I told them about Gary's passing and not seeing Diane after that, but I didn't tell them about seeing someone in the backyard.
Starting point is 00:07:05 We drove around the other side of the neighborhood where it bumped up against the dense trees. We parked on the side of the road next to an open field and walked through the trees. I wanted to get to the backyard. I don't know what compelled me to check out the yard instead of just the front of the house, like I did my own. We got to the woods, and I just looked over what I could see of the yards and the trees, reminiscing. Then I heard my girlfriend gasp and grabbed my arm.
Starting point is 00:07:38 I looked over to where her focus was and saw something staring at us from a large pile of leaves, branches, and debris. It had to be human. But again, their skin was a pale blue, or grayish color. and really leathery. There was no fur or hair, and even their head seemed to be in patches. They were completely nude again and walking on both hands and feet.
Starting point is 00:08:09 They had been watching us, until we probably startled them, and they walked to the pile to hide from us. We were both startled, but something was pulling me towards it. I slowly approached the pile, much to my girlfriend's dismay. Then, this thing jumped out from it,
Starting point is 00:08:32 letting out this weird growl, but I could almost make out words. It said something like, get out. But it sounded warped, like someone who didn't quite know how to speak. They then took off in the other direction, and hid in some of the bushes. It was evening, the sun was setting, but there was still light. And this thing was out there for anyone to see.
Starting point is 00:09:00 I was pretty shaken up. My girlfriend obviously terrified. So we ran back through the trees, got in my car, and drove directly to her place. Once we got there, we sat in my car in her driveway, and she asked me what the hell we had just seen. I told her I wasn't certain,
Starting point is 00:09:20 but then explained to her what I saw as a kid. She looked at me like I had something growing off my face. She first asked me if I told anyone and then understood my reasoning. What was I supposed to say? There was a naked old person walking around their backyard like a dog? Hell, I technically shouldn't have even been back there. And now, it could be considered trespassing and I was an adult. I didn't know what to do.
Starting point is 00:09:50 The fact that she saw it too, all these years later, and actually saw it first this time, confirmed that I was not imagining it. But the worst part was that part of me feared that this thing was Ms. Henderson. She'd become reclusive, and it was back there when I was a child. Could she have become feral for some reason?
Starting point is 00:10:19 Did she lose Gary and then just snap? God, I didn't want to think about it, but could she have been involved with his death? If that was her, she had to be much older. They were close enough to my grandparents' age when I was a kid, and at the time of this event, I was 18. How would she be able, in her fragile body, to walk like that, and to walk that fast, or do the things that we were witnessing? I talked to my parents about her, kind of, a couple of days later, saying that I was just thinking back of my childhood.
Starting point is 00:11:00 I mentioned how she just kind of disappeared after Gary's death, and my parents basically confirmed that. They said they didn't have any kids, and they assumed that a lot of their family either lived far away or had also passed because they rarely saw anyone over there. They also said that she had pretty much disappeared. Her immediate neighbor asked around and asked for a welfare check, but when the police went in, she was nowhere to be found. But the house was spotless, with no signs of foul play. Because of this, they didn't really do any further investigation.
Starting point is 00:11:40 They claimed that she probably left, or moved in with a relative, and her house sat as it was. I don't know how it ended up being sold. I finally told my parents about what I had seen both times, and when my dad didn't say much, my mom said that she probably had dementia when I saw her as a kid, but thinks that we may have been mistaking a sick dog or something. I dropped it, as there really was no point in arguing,
Starting point is 00:12:11 but I know what I saw. It was the same thing from my childhood. So now, I still think about it today, about what happened to Miss Henderson. Is it possible for someone to snap and become feral like that? What else could explain it? Could it really even be her? Or was it some other unknown creature that I saw? Sometimes I want to go back and see if I can stop it, but I can't bring myself to.
Starting point is 00:12:43 I don't want to remember her like that. if that is her. And I don't want to make her into a spectacle for others. I'm really just hoping that I saw some weird creature and not my sweet old neighbor lady. Lazzang sur-gillet, puissance-molyne, for 15 minutes.

Starting point is 00:14:16 friends in Idaho, close to the base of the mountains. One of them had to back out due to a family issue, and the other ones said that they would have to come out a day later. We were planning on staying for three nights, four days, but I didn't want to lose any of that time. So I decided I would still go out there on the day that we planned
Starting point is 00:14:41 and just have a day to myself. I figured I could also pick a good spot for us to set up, so we wouldn't have to spend any time deciding. I was semi-familiar with the area, as I'd hiked the trails before, but it branched off in many places. So there were some that I had never taken before. There was one trail specifically that few people took, because the path was mostly rock and gravel, which can make for an uncomfortable walk. I decided to give it a shot, thinking the harder the quest,
Starting point is 00:15:22 the better the reward, right? Sorry, stupid game reference. I was hoping that if I got past it, then there would be less people around, and maybe a nice sight for us all to experience. So, I made my way up the trail, saw some cool-looking trees, and the further in I went,
Starting point is 00:15:44 the fewer and fewer people I would pass. At one point, it kind of came to a dead end. with a bench and a small placard with information about the area. The path seemed to start again on one side that led back down to the entrance. But there was a very small path behind the little circle part that you could stop and rest on. There was no gravel or concrete path, but more so just looked like it had been walked so many times that the grass died or flattened. I was curious, and I wondered what was over there, and I decided to check it out as well. The deeper in I went, the taller the grass got.
Starting point is 00:16:33 Telling me this probably wasn't any kind of official trail, but I was this far in, and still curious as to what I might find. I went so far in that, looking back, I couldn't see where I had come from anymore. If not for the vague path being created, I probably would have had to find my own way back, or leave some kind of trail for myself. Sure enough, the woods opened up to a small area that looked like it could make for a great place to set up our tents. There was a small grassy area surrounded by trees. You could still see the sun in the sky looking up, so we would still get a decent amount of life.
Starting point is 00:17:19 light. And there was no one else around. But as I laid my bag down and went to sit on a tree stump, I noticed just that. There was a single tree that had been cut down. It was smooth and even, not like it had been fallen or been struck by lightning or something. And there was no sign of the tree to boot. Why would one tree, out of all of these trees, trees around me get cut down. That's when I started to pay more attention to the area. This forest area was not man-made. Maybe the trails were to some extent, but they didn't cut out random trees like this,
Starting point is 00:18:07 yet there was almost a small clearing where there were no trees in sight. I walked towards the middle of a small opening patch, and as I stood there, I noticed that it fell off. The ground seemed softer than the rest of it. It was like the feeling when new sod is laid down or when it rains a lot, and your feet kind of sink into it. I walked around the same area just trying to get a feel of the place when I heard a bit of a creek from the ground.
Starting point is 00:18:41 After a few more stumps, I was convinced that I was standing on something. So, as I kicked around the ground, I was able to get my foot under a patch of the grass. It hadn't been there long because it was pretty easy to pull up. After wiping away some more dirt, I found a handle. There was a door to what looked like some underground bunker. It called me stupid, but there was no one around, and this had to have been here a while, and possibly untouched, so... I had to check it out.
Starting point is 00:19:18 There was some kind of chain on it, but it looked like it had corroded or rusted away because there was nothing locking it down. So, I opened it and shouted down to see if there was anyone in there. Thankfully, I didn't get a response, so I grabbed a flashlight from my bag and climbed down the ladder into the pitch dark. That place was creepy, and definitely gave sinister vibes. It was probably the size of a small bedroom. There was a single desk in a chair that had one of those small portable stoves on it. There were a couple of canned goods as well as a notebook and a pen. The notebook definitely had been used, but there were also several pages torn out, so the remaining ones were left blank.
Starting point is 00:20:09 Looking over to the right, there was a large white bucket in a small cheap-looking mattress. There was nothing on the mattress like a pillow or a blanket either. It was looking like someone had been living there, but as I walked over to the mattress, I noticed something coming out of the wall. Like, it was bolted in. Tracing it with the light, I could see a chain with some kind of shackle attached to it,
Starting point is 00:20:39 almost like it was a cuff. As I got down to pick up the chain, I noticed some of the scratch marks on the floor and the dark stain on the mattress. I was convinced at that point that no one was living there, but maybe being kept there. It was creepy as it is, but this was really making me uncomfortable, so I left. I got out, covered it back up the best I could, and I left the area, fearing someone may have seen me or that I would be suspect for whatever. whatever the hell happened down there.
Starting point is 00:21:16 I went to a path that we were familiar with, and I had a normal time from there, but I did feel a little paranoid that someone was going to call me out. Thankfully, my friend came out a little earlier than expected the next day, and we sat and chilled for a bit. I ended up telling him about the bunker that I found, and of course he wanted to check it out too. So I took him back to it, but I stayed outside.
Starting point is 00:21:44 watching out while he looked around. He agreed that the place was creepy, and we talked about what could have possibly happened down there. We talk about it on occasion together, and with a few friends. We even tried going back there years later to find it. Some things came up in our lives, and we weren't able to go back for quite some time. The gravel path was still there, but we actually never found the bunker again. It had to just be the time that had passed and us forgetting where it was, because a bunker can't just disappear, right?
Starting point is 00:22:21 I even tried looking it up on Google Maps, thinking maybe I could find it from the satellite view, but I still cannot pinpoint it. I hope that I am able to find it again, and then maybe someday find out what exactly happened down there. I want to apologize for this being a bit longer, but while it may not seem like much to some, this event was pretty traumatic for me. I used to play a few MMOs many years ago, and I spent hours playing them. My downtime was pretty much spent in them. I shamefully even got a few friends hooked on it, and we would play as we chatted. I also met a lot of people in the games.
Starting point is 00:23:17 some of them becoming good long-distance friends, too. Unfortunately, that's also when this story took place. I'd been playing alone one night when someone started asking the server chat about a specific mechanic in the game. No one would answer them, and I felt bad, so I responded with the answer. They thanked me and became very appreciative of it. After a while, we began talking about the game as well as, other games that we enjoyed.
Starting point is 00:23:49 They tried asking about things about myself, but I wouldn't tell them anything past that I lived in the U.S. and that I was 19, which was the truth. At the time, their character was a female, and yes, I know that anyone could have been behind that character, but for some reason I didn't think I had any reason to doubt them. I think part of me also thought that I needed to stick up for the other female gamer or something. As we talked, she did tell me her real name was Heidi, and that she was also 19 and from the US.
Starting point is 00:24:26 We started talking more, and I even gave her my email to message me outside of the game. I began playing with Heidi more often, and she caught on quickly in the game. She had a few questions, but otherwise she was a quick learner. We became a two-woman team when it came to taking on some of the more difficult quests, and we did great. I tried to invite her to my friend's group so that we could all play together, but she always declined, talking about how shy she was and how she preferred it just being us.
Starting point is 00:24:58 But she also didn't mind if I was already playing with my other friends. This continued on for about a month or so, but we also started talking a lot through email. She even sent me a picture of herself holding a sign that said hello with my username. I once again didn't see any harm in it. She was obviously who she said she was, so I sent a picture of myself in the same manner. Our friendship only grew from there. We talked more personally about our home life.
Starting point is 00:25:29 We talked about things that we loved, our fears, our hopes for the future, and even vented some frustrations. And maybe some people could call me naive or immature, but I actually started to have some feelings for how. Heidi. She had sent me many pictures of her, and after getting to know her, I realized how alike we were. One day, I was comforting her after she mentioned that she'd had a particularly bad day, and how she felt worthless. And as I comforted her, I let it slip than I loved her and told her that she was valued and that I needed her. Whether I really meant that in an intimate manner, or maybe just as a friend that really cared for her, I don't know, but at that moment it felt important to say. To my surprise, she actually told me that she felt the same way about me,
Starting point is 00:26:22 but she didn't want to say anything because she didn't know how I would take it, and she didn't want to lose me. That night really seemed to change things for us. Our relationship took off from there, and I even expressed this to my friends. Many of them congratulated me. one thought it was kind of suss because we never talked on the phone, so even though we've shared pictures, I couldn't confirm they were who they said they were without video, or hearing their voice. I tried to tell them that I trusted her when another friend became very defensive on my behalf,
Starting point is 00:26:59 and told them that they should just be happy for me. It became a bit of an argument between them, which I feel really did some damage. But I tried my best to fix the situation. I continued to try and include Heidi, my now girlfriend, into my friend group and finally she agreed to join. However, my friend Max, the one who stood up for me prior, said they wouldn't be able to make it, so we were down one person. I just thought that I would catch up with him when we were able to get together again.
Starting point is 00:27:32 Playing with Heidi and my friends was a lot of fun, at least at first. She was shy and didn't talk about. much to my friends, but they all talked to her, and tried to involve her as much as possible. My friend that was suspicious, Seth, would ask Heidi more intrusive questions. Almost like they were interrogating her, he would constantly try to catch her in a lie, but she either was able to explain herself better, or she would apologize for being confusing. After this happened a few times, I told Seth to back off because he was being a jerk. so he left.
Starting point is 00:28:12 It was down to two of my other friends, myself and Heidi, but we still had fun. Heidi even began loosening up and was slinging jokes at them. It was like she had always been a part of the group and we all had fun. I just hope that Seth would come around to the idea and then all six of us could be unstoppable. I even wanted us to be able to hang out in person. And yes, that is something I learned about Heidi.
Starting point is 00:28:38 she actually lived pretty close to me, a little over an hour away. It didn't take very long from there that we became even closer, and even though we still didn't talk on the phone, she had sent me a voice recording of her saying that she loved me, and I thought it was really sweet. She said that she played from a computer at the library and that she didn't have a phone. She told me she still lived with her parents because she had a disability,
Starting point is 00:29:05 so finding work was hard for her, and they didn't have much money. She said that her mom would take her to the library daily so that she could do whatever she wanted for a few hours to get her out of the house. Again, stupid of me to believe. Maybe, but at the time, it seemed believable. But by then, I really wanted to move forward and meet her.
Starting point is 00:29:31 I asked her about coming to see her, but she was hesitant. I told her that I would go to her so that she would go to her so that she wouldn't have to pay for anything, but again she was nervous and said that she would think it over. I agreed, thinking maybe I was rushing it, and I didn't bring it up again. But then, things started to crumble.
Starting point is 00:29:54 Seth finally seemed to come around to the idea of Heidi and joined another game session with us, but Max was still unavailable saying that he had to work late. This time we played a trivia, a game. The answers were clicked or typed in so speech wasn't required. While the rest of us were in the game's voice chat, Heidi just used the text chat. Heidi blew us away with her knowledge of geology and ancient history, and we even joked that
Starting point is 00:30:23 her geology knowledge would make it that someone else in the group could finally give Max a run for his money. He was usually the one that hammered those categories out. But then after a question was answered, someone cracked a joke, and Heidi had a clapback to it. The problem was, was that the joke was an inside joke between my friends. It wasn't something that she would have known about as she wasn't a part of it at the time, nor did I tell her about it.
Starting point is 00:30:55 At first we all laughed, but then Seth called it out, asking if I told her about it. It caught me off guard, and at the time I thought it was odd, but I must have said something, right? So I just said, uh, yeah, probably. And Heidi agreed. The remainder of that night felt a little off. Heidi didn't seem to talk much, and Seth appeared to act the same way. It wasn't until after we finished that Seth said he wanted to talk to me. We talked on the phone and he apologized for acting the way he had earlier, but then expressed his concerns.
Starting point is 00:31:34 He asked me if I really had mentioned that moment to Heidi, and I answered truthfully saying that I didn't remember. He expressed how concerned he was that Heidi wasn't who she claimed to be. He gave many reasons, including how she wouldn't talk to me on the phone, how she didn't want to meet in person, and even weirder how she knew about the joke. I tried to be reasonable and explained how I approached her in the game on the day we met, that she didn't approach me,
Starting point is 00:32:06 but he again asked me to recall that day, and pointed out that she spoke first, asking a question that I could answer. I would be lying if I said I wasn't skeptical. I told him that I would confront it, and then apologized for being a jerk to him. So, my plan was to try and set her up, in a kind of test. The next day we talked, I brought something
Starting point is 00:32:32 up, an event that I hadn't told her about before. As I explained it to her, she mentioned something about it that, once again, she would not have known about. I was mentally freaking out. Was this really happening? Had I been fooled this whole time? And if so, who the hell was this person? I needed to confront this.
Starting point is 00:32:58 I was already scaring myself, and, to be honest, I was... heartbroken. I really fell for her, or I guess the thought of her. So I told her that I really wanted to meet her in person and that it was important to me in order to continue our relationship. She seemed to become upset and begged me for more time, but I stood firm. But I don't really know what came over me at that point. I decided to tell her that I had concerns. I mentioned the joke from our game and how some things didn't add up. She started becoming defensive, and I saw a sight of her that I never saw before. Her messages were more sporadic, short, and in pieces.
Starting point is 00:33:45 She talked about how she loved me and that she's loved me for years, but I would never give her a chance. I didn't understand. We'd only known each other a few months. What did she mean by years? I started panicking, asking her to explain herself, but she wouldn't. She just kept saying it was my fault and that I should have left things as they were. I told her to tell me who she really was, hoping that maybe we could work it out.
Starting point is 00:34:16 Hopefully we could start over, but she wouldn't. She left with one final message, saying that it would never work between us. It made a hint at ending her life and said good point. I was devastated. She would not respond after that, and I had no other way of contacting her. I knew her last name, but I knew nothing of her parents. I tried to find someone by her name and location anywhere online, but it was like she didn't exist,
Starting point is 00:34:48 which only cemented the idea that that wasn't her real name. In the back of my mind, I had this dark thought that my actions might have led to someone. once death, and I couldn't forgive myself. I felt like even if it was all a lie, I should have left things alone. I told my friends about it, and they consoled me, saying that I couldn't blame myself. Seth, again saying that he thought it was just another way to manipulate me, and that got me thinking that maybe that could be true. I called them out, and that was their response, so what were the chances that this was just another
Starting point is 00:35:28 one of their plans. But then Max became very defensive, and said that Seth was being insensitive, but I tried to tell him that he had a point. He then became angry with me, but then seemed to become defensive like we insulted him. At first I felt like it was out of character for him, but then I remembered something crucial. A few years prior to all of this, Max had confessed to me in person that, he loved me, and he asked me out. I told him the truth, and that was that I didn't have feelings for him like that.
Starting point is 00:36:07 For one, he was a really good friend to me, and two, I wasn't interested in guys. But instead of accepting this, he got defensive. He seemed like he had to explain himself and give reasons to be with him, but it would never work. You can't just make someone like you, especially when you're hit. hitting on a gay girl. He stopped talking to me for a while, which made our friend group awkward, but he came back around and mellowed out. Since then, every once in a while, he would say something flirty.
Starting point is 00:36:43 I would deny him, and he would get defensive. So when he did this as we talked about Heidi, something he didn't normally do, I became suspicious. I had known Seth the longest of our friends. He was the only one that I told about Max, so after that ended, I brought it up to him. I told him I would ask him about it the next day and left it at that. What I did not expect was an influx of messages between Seth and Max overnight. To my surprise, Seth had actually confronted him, and, yeah, he pretty much confessed what he did.
Starting point is 00:37:25 Max messaged me, all but apologizing for what he did. did, again claiming it was all my fault because I wouldn't give him a chance. And Seth sent me screenshots of their conversation. I felt betrayed. I poured my heart out to Heidi. She seemed nothing like Max in the way she talked to me, and the pictures. I was attracted to her, not Max. I learned the pictures were of his older sister's friend.
Starting point is 00:37:57 He basically flirted with her to her. get them. That was a bad week for me. Not only did I lose what I thought was a girlfriend, I also lost a friend. I never wanted to talk to or see Max ever again. He just couldn't accept our friendship and continued to push it, ruining what we had. It took me a while to get past this, and I also don't like talking to new people online. I may have some small talk with others, but I never let it go offline. It absolutely broke my trust. So, there's my story, and hopefully a lesson for others.
Starting point is 00:38:37 Don't trust everyone online and do your research. Or, at the very least, have a friend like Seth that can see through the lies. I recently listened to one of your older videos about cryptids, and I felt compelled to share an experience that my friends and I had when we went camping. This took place back in 2017. Four of my friends and I
Starting point is 00:39:14 went camping in a spot up in the mountains. It was one of our favorite places because it was so secluded and away from people, away from the city and all the lights that it brought. I loved seeing the stars at night between the tall trees.
Starting point is 00:39:31 No topper, no tent, just the bed, my sleeping bag and that's it. We planned on being up there for a few days. The day we arrived, we set up and had a great night, but the following evening, the atmosphere seemed to shift. The air became really still, but it was different from the stillness before a storm.
Starting point is 00:39:55 It was hard to explain. Even the wildlife seemed to stop existing. My friend feared that there may have been a mountain lion in the area and wanted to pack it in. Unfortunately, the rest of us weren't ready to call it quits. I gave her the keys to stay in my truck and joked that we could get away if she was right. Everyone else settled in for the night
Starting point is 00:40:19 and slept in the bed of my truck again. But while I laid there trying to sleep, I couldn't shake that feeling that I was being watched. I would look into my truck to see Janet passed out. I looked over to all the tents, and my friends were nowhere to be seen, so they must have been in their tents. I scanned the trees in the area and didn't see anything or anyone.
Starting point is 00:40:45 I finally told myself that I must have gotten myself worked up because of the air, and my friend being worried. So I just told myself to calm down and finally fell sleep. The next morning seemed to be back to normal, so we all chalked it up to something being in the area. We were intruding on their habitat, so it was possible. But we continued to have a great day. It was once again the following night when things got a bit scary.
Starting point is 00:41:17 We'd been sitting around the fire, talking, and having a good time. When once again the air seemed to become still. No crickets chirping, no owl hoots, there was nothing. Nothing except a pretty pungent smell. That's when we noticed how still and quiet it was. We sat there in silence, looking around, trying to see if we could find the source of the smell or why the forest went silent. When my friend pointed out something in the trees in the distance. He said that he saw a tall figure dart across them.
Starting point is 00:41:56 Jake being who he was, wanted to go check it out. I can't blame him as I'm the same way. but I'm a small girl, so I probably wouldn't have gone if I was alone. The other three stayed by the fire while Jake and I approached the trees. We didn't go far. There was a path that separated our campgrounds from the trees on the other side, but as we crossed the path, we started hearing a low guttural growl. It stopped us from going forward, not wanting to be mauled by whatever it was.
Starting point is 00:42:29 We still wanted to know what it was. Did we stand a chance, or would we be better off moving or leaving? So we started shining our flashlights through the trees to find the culprit. And to this day, I wish we would have just ignored it or packed up and left. We spotted something rocking side to side between the trees. It stood about six feet tall and stood hunched over. Its skin, if you could call it that, was a shade. of gray, tightly clinging to the bones.
Starting point is 00:43:02 It had small tufts of hair and random spots all over. Altogether, it just looked beyond emaciated. But the more we looked at it, the more we couldn't look away. The growling was definitely coming from whatever this thing was, but where its face should have been, it wasn't. I was following the shape of the creature with my flashlight, but I could not find eyes or a mouth anywhere, on what I assumed to be its head. It made no sense.
Starting point is 00:43:35 While we continued to take in the sight of this thing, it raised one arm, or leg, whatever it was, as it twitched and let out another loud growl. Except that time, it sounded like someone trying to scream with their mouth covered. Whatever it was, it was not human, but I couldn't identify. identify it either. All I knew was the sheer terror it instilled in me, and I yanked on Jake's arm to get the hell out of there. Thankfully, he didn't resist.
Starting point is 00:44:09 And we went back to the camp where the rest of them asked what the hell that was, and were freaking out as well. I was right there with them. None of us felt comfortable staying there, so we half-azardly broke down our tents and threw everything in my truck or Caleb's. We drove back down to the entrance. And with us all being too tired and scared, we slept in the trucks in the parking lot when we could finally fall asleep. The next morning, we decided to check out the area before we left, feeling a little safer in the daylight.
Starting point is 00:44:44 When we got up there, our campground looked, picked over. The food items we left behind were shredded and eaten. The ground had been scratched at, as you can see the wide rake marks through the gravel, as well as spots that looked to be dug out in dirt. You could see the large individual marks like it was done with a rake or large claws. We cautiously approached the spot where we saw the creature that night. There was a small pile of something by the tree.
Starting point is 00:45:17 I say something because it looked like something that was regurgitated, that included a small carcass in it. I couldn't stay long as it was making me sick, so I had to walk away. We went and told one of the rangers about a possibly sick animal up there that was potentially hostile, but he didn't seem to care much. He said that he would look into it and that was it.
Starting point is 00:45:43 Given his demeanor, I didn't think that he would care about our description of the creature, or even believe us, so we just left it at that. We didn't camp there again until the next year, in spring instead of the summer. I was hoping that either the thing we saw was either dead, or maybe a different season would cause it to not be around. Thankfully, whatever the case was, we didn't see it.
Starting point is 00:46:12 Part of me wishes that I would so I could try to get pictures, but part of me also thinks we got lucky getting out of there in one piece. I have an online dating story that is, in my opinion, Weird and creepy. It's kind of more weird, though. It was just a really strange encounter with a guy that seemed okay at first. I'll try not to go on too long with this story, but my apologies if it does get a bit long-winded. So, obviously, this happened at a point where I found myself in the endless sea of dating apps.
Starting point is 00:47:00 Like many others, I was in search of something more. Having been single for a few years at this point, I was just trying to find someone that wasn't an absolute creep and that I could stand to spend some time with. And if it became something extra, then great. Ants, at one point I matched with a guy that seemed okay. Let's call him Jamie for the sake of the story. Jamie seemed like a pretty decent dude.
Starting point is 00:47:31 His profile had that nerdy air about it, and was filled with humor that resonated with mine. Our conversations were mostly smooth. We seemed to have quite a bit to talk about, and we liked a lot of the same things, so it goes. We then decided to put all of that to the test and meet up in person. I was excited. I was thinking that this could actually be a match that could lead somewhere.
Starting point is 00:47:57 And like everyone else in our position, we decided to do a meetup at a local coffee shop. a neutral ground where if nothing else, we could enjoy a nice cup of coffee before never speaking to each other again. I got there first, and Jamie messaged me saying that he was on his way, but that he was running a couple minutes late. No big deal, things happen. I just sat there with my latte and scrolled to the conversations, chuckling at a few of the jokes that were made and thinking about what to talk about when he showed up. This is normally the part of these stories where I would say, he showed up and looked nothing like his picture.
Starting point is 00:48:37 But it was quite the opposite. He actually looked exactly like he did in his picture. But there was something about him that bothered me. And at the time, I just didn't realize it. I brushed it off. He ordered his coffee, and I already had mine, obviously. But I hadn't drank much of it. And we sat down at a comfortable table.
Starting point is 00:49:01 The conversation continued to flow pretty soon. smoothly. We kind of picked up where we left off in our messages. But as it continued, Jamie started to ask a few questions that were weird. Mainly he seemed to be really interested in my daily routine, and the questions were awkwardly personal. He asked what time I walked my dog, if I ever got scared living alone, how much my rent was. Worse yet, each time I he asked one of these questions, he would change the way that he was looking at me. He would
Starting point is 00:49:39 go from a normal, casual look to a wide-eyed, straight-on penetrating glare. It felt like he was trying to intimidate me, but only when he asked specific questions.
Starting point is 00:49:56 I later learned that this was a supposed quote-unquote alpha male technique to make women submissive, but it's not important, just funny to mention that people think this stuff works. I tried to steer the conversation to safer waters, thinking that I could salvage this to some extent.
Starting point is 00:50:17 But when I asked about his hobbies, or interests, or anything that was worthy of idle conversation, he would be vague, evade anything personal, and then further try to deflect, trying to turn it back around so that I had to answer his questions instead. It was pretty clear at this point that he was manipulative. I'd seen it before, and he was showing the telltale signs of being that kind of person. I don't remember specifically how we got on to the topic, but Jamie ended up talking about one of his exes. He talked about how he used to watch her online activities,
Starting point is 00:50:56 how he would show up randomly at her work to make sure that she was there, and he said it all with a hint of serendipity. He said that for the longest time he thought that she was the one, but that she, again, quote, couldn't handle him at his best. Which, yeah, there were way too many red flags going up during this conversation. The whole time he talked about it, there was no hint of remorse, or an understanding that he violated her privacy. He almost sounded amused. The final straw came when Jamie made a joke about having used a face. profile to learn more about me before the date.
Starting point is 00:51:38 He mentioned that when we matched a couple weeks prior, he had sent me a friend request under a secondary profile, and I accepted it without thinking, which, my bad. He then dug through my Facebook to learn everything about me, and then said that he'd even been around my block where I lived, which is where it hit me. Earlier, when I mentioned that something was off about him, it was because I had actually seen him in person before, like the day before this date. When I left for work the morning prior,
Starting point is 00:52:14 there was a guy just walking down the street, and he waved at me as I was leaving. It didn't hit me that it was him because I was tunnel-visioned on getting to work on time. He had, for lack of a better word, stalked me shortly by, before our date. The way that he said it made it seem like I should be flattered. I wasn't. I excused myself, mentioned that I had a lot to do that day, so I needed to cut the date short, because I needed to go do something with my mom. I don't think I even gave a specific excuse. I'm pretty sure I literally said, I need to go do something with my mom.
Starting point is 00:52:57 Jamie was completely unfazed, asking if he could walk me to my car or go with me, and holding that same confident smile that he had while telling me about everything else. I declined. I told him to enjoy his coffee and hurried out of the coffee shop, and drove off as quickly as I safely could. What wrapped this whole event in a lovely little bow, a few hours after the date, He sent me a text saying,
Starting point is 00:53:28 I think that you and I had a real connection today, and I think that you have a real chance at making me happy. Tell me when you're available, and I'll take you somewhere way nicer than that coffee shop. I never texted him back. I decided that ghosting him was the best way to handle it. I think that his ego and narcissism stopped him for messaging me again, because I didn't hear from him after that.
Starting point is 00:53:54 Looking back, this experience is my chilling reminder that some people out there, not necessarily just men, are simply weird creeps. He seemed totally normal at first, but he was anything but. I have done a few more online dates since this, but there hasn't been anything substantial. And honestly, I'm grateful that most of them have just been forgettable and boring. Because I don't think I could handle another Jamie in my life. Hi, Raven. I wanted to share my story with you because I appreciate the light that you shine on some of the darker moments in people's lives. In a positive way.
Starting point is 00:54:51 This happened to me and my friends when we were in our early 20s. My grandparents owned land with a lot of acreage. I'm not good with that kind of stuff, but I'm not good. I remember that if you weren't paying attention, you could easily miss the driveway, because from the road all you could see was the start of a gravel path. The driveway was pretty long, so you couldn't really see what was on the property through the trees. But they had built a gorgeous cabin on it that they used as their summer or vacation home. I'd been there on many occasions as a kid to stay with my grandparents and family.
Starting point is 00:55:33 My grandparents didn't go as often when us kids started getting older, so I took it as a great opportunity to go camping there with some friends, knowing that it would be free, able to fit multiple people, and that it was a safe area. My grandparents also agreed to let me have free reign as long as I did a few household chores that needed to be done, such as checking one of the pipes and changing out the linens that were out. My grandma was big about that. To avoid bedbugs or other things eating stuff, she kept most of her spare sheets, blankets, and towels in a sealed bag to prevent things like that. But some things she couldn't put into bags. So, after I went and checked it out to make sure everything worked as it should,
Starting point is 00:56:29 my friends and I made our plans. The five of us were going to meet up. at my place and we would drive out to the cabin together, and that was about four hours away. One of my friends, Sophie, had already been there before with me as a kid, so she was at least familiar with the cabin. My other three friends, April, Mira, and Lindsay, had never been, though. We got there, and we all started calling dibs on where we were going to sleep. There were two bedrooms, the couch and the living room was a hideaway, and we were. bed, and there was a pull-out cot that they kept in the closet.
Starting point is 00:57:08 I took one room, Lindsay and Mira shared a room, and April and Sophie took the couch. Guess no one wanted the cot. Anyways, we all got settled in and decided to go hang out at the lake. The first night went fine, and everyone had a great time. The next day, we went hiking in the woods behind the cabin, took a lot of pictures, and gossiped. That night, we grilled and had a bonfire going. We had all been drinking and teasing each other, and one of us dared Mira to go skinny-dipping. It was probably a mistake because Mira wasn't afraid of much, and she went for it. I suppose with all the peer pressure and
Starting point is 00:57:53 alcohol, it didn't take long to convince the rest of us to jump in, too. The next day, we realized we underestimated the amount of food and beverages we would go through, and also thought about a few things we wanted, so we decided to make a trip to the closest grocery store, which was about a 20-minute drive from the cabin. Lindsay wanted to stay at the cabin and sit out in the sun, and April agreed to stay with her so that she could shower before the rest of us, so it was just Sophie, Mira and myself going to the store. We were probably gone for an hour and a half, two max,
Starting point is 00:58:35 and when we got back, Lindsay was still out by the dog. When we went inside, though, it started looking like someone was looking for something. April and Sophie's suitcases were open and looked like they had been shuffled through. I thought maybe the other girls were pulling a prank or possibly looking for something, so after putting everything in the kitchen, I went to find April who was still in the bathroom, or in there again, and I asked her about it. She didn't have any clue what I was talking about, and even came out to look. She looked confused.
Starting point is 00:59:16 She was always well organized, and everything was folded neatly in her case, yet all of her stuff was just as much scattered as Sophie's. One of them went to ask Lindsay about it, and I walked around. to the rest of the place, and I noticed a few things looked off. I always made my bed, and it looked like the blanket had been moved. I went back to the kitchen to put the stuff away, when Lindsay had come back in with the others, and they were all talking about the situation. That's when it was pointed out that some of our food was missing, too.
Starting point is 00:59:52 There was a bag of pretzels gone, and some popcorn that was half empty, and a few other things that had been used up. It was a strange situation. And at first, we were thinking that it may have been someone breaking in. But then it felt hard to believe with where we were. The cabin was in the middle of nowhere. The closest house was miles away, and again,
Starting point is 01:00:19 you can't even see the place from the driveway entrance. So we thought maybe it was an animal, since there was food missing and only the cases in the living room were messed with, maybe the animal hurt April in the shower, got spooked and took off. I thought maybe I was just remembering the bed wrong, and we all tried to reason with it, I think. Since we didn't see anyone or any evidence of a stranger, we all decided it was okay to stay and continued enjoying our time. We just made sure to shut the door.
Starting point is 01:00:55 doors and windows and put away any food and drinks. So, the rest of the day was great. We all even seemed to forget about the earlier situation and had fun. We made kebabs for dinner, and then made another fire to sit around and drink. By this time, it was already dark, and the only light that you could see was from the fire and the porch light that kicked on with motion. We were starting to quiet down as it was. probably close to midnight, and I think we were all getting tired when Mira mentioned going
Starting point is 01:01:31 to get something from inside, and as soon as she stood up, we heard a thud, like something large had fallen, and then it was followed up by that oomph sound that someone makes when they fall. We all immediately stood up and were on guard. April started freaking out immediately while Lindsay tried calming her down. Again, I was trying to be reasonable since I brought my friends here, and I shouted, Who's there? But I didn't get an answer. We were on the side of the cabin facing the lake, and Mira suggested that we walk around to the front.
Starting point is 01:02:12 She suggested that we do so on the widest path that we could. That way, maybe the reflection coming off the water from the moon might give us a little more light. We left anything that we had out there and immediately started swiftly walking around. I did have an old wind-up lantern that was kept under the sink, so I turned it on, and we all walked around. As we got to the porch, Lindsay and April went inside, and the other three of us started looking around the cabin. That's when I noticed the bush that was leaning against the side of the cabin was moving. The bushes weren't very dense on that side, I assume, because they had already bloomed, or maybe they didn't just get a lot of sun, or maybe too much.
Starting point is 01:03:03 But because of this, we could very clearly see the figure of something large curled up in it, and looking at us. It took everything in me to not go running inside with the other girls, so instead I mustered out a... What the hell? The scary situation seemed to break a little when we heard what sounded like a really bad impression of an owl. With Mira going off behind me,
Starting point is 01:03:34 Sophie finally spoke up. She said with the most threatening voice that she could muster, we're going back inside, and if you're not off this property in two minutes, I'll be back out with my shotgun. And no, she didn't have a shotgun, or any gun for that matter. But before we even closed the door,
Starting point is 01:03:55 we saw someone take off the side and run towards the driveway. I didn't know what they could do, but I did call the cops, and they said they would send someone out to take a look. Not that it mattered much because half an hour later, I got a call from the cop that was coming out
Starting point is 01:04:13 asking for directions. He'd actually driven by twice. When he did show up, we gave him any information that we had. He walked with us to the fire so we could put it out and grab the blankets that were out there. He said that he never saw anyone on or near the road or driveway, but he said that he would drive around a few more times. We all crammed ourselves in the room that I was sleeping in, since the door locked, and slept in there that night.
Starting point is 01:04:45 We ended up leaving the next day. which was only a day earlier than we expected. Because that kind of killed the mood for a few of them. And I don't blame them. But we did find a small lake and then chilled out there that following night, and then we went home. They never did find anyone from that night, and Lindsay and April refused to go back there.
Starting point is 01:05:10 Surprisingly, Sophie and Mira were, but those two are the crazy friends. If you will. I did tell my grandparents about it, and they were surprised saying they had never had something like that happened. Grandpa still thinks it was probably just an animal, but the person ran away on two legs, so I'm pretty certain it was human. I helped them pick out and set up some security cameras and made sure all the doors and windows had locks. It at least made me feel a bit safer whenever we went to visit. A couple of years ago, I started using some dating apps to try and find someone to spend my time with.
Starting point is 01:06:01 I don't think I was quite ready to settle down, but I also knew that I wanted something more than a one-night stand. So being able to filter those people out of the dating pool was pretty convenient for me. In my search, I came across a woman named Tracy. Tracy was gorgeous with her all of skin, dark hair, and eyes. She was the right amount of funny and outgoing, but also a badass. She had pictures on her profile and even told me about how she had traveled all over the country, and even to a few others. She had pictures of her climbing mountains, riding camels in the desert, and diving with sharks.
Starting point is 01:06:45 She said it was all part of her previous job, but that she had quit due to medical reasons. I felt like even if we didn't work out, we could still be. be friends and I could just live through her, hearing about all the trips that she went on. So, to say that we had been talking for a while would be an understatement. We chatted, which turned to talking on the phone and even video chatting. I had no reason to doubt her authenticity. She was definitely Tracy. I really wanted to meet her in person, but when I asked about a month in,
Starting point is 01:07:21 she denied saying that she couldn't at the time but would love too soon. It didn't bother me at first because she continued to talk to me, so it couldn't be that she wasn't interested in me. But then one day while I was working, she texted me asking what I was doing that day. I found it a bit odd because it was early one morning during the week, and she knew that I worked a standard Monday through Friday 8 to 5. I was clearly at work.
Starting point is 01:07:52 There was no reason to be mean about it, though, so I just told her that I was at work and asked what was up. She asked me if I wanted to meet up at her place and that she would make us lunch. We had discussed where I worked and where we lived before, so I knew that she actually lived close to my work. I thought meeting for the first date at her place would be unusual, but at the same time, the thought that she didn't want to go to some fancy restaurant and dress up, it made me think that she wasn't that high maintenance, which was pretty cool, so I agreed. Worst case scenario, my lunch took a little longer than an hour,
Starting point is 01:08:32 but it would be worth it. However, as I pulled up to her place, I was immediately caught off guard. Her house looked like it was one good huff and puff from being blown down. She had a wooden privacy fence that was haphazardly put around a chain-link fence. From a distance, the windows all looked covered with cardboard or wood on the inside. The once vibrant blue-looking paint was peeling, showing gray paneling underneath. The wooden patio looked badly splintered and warped.
Starting point is 01:09:08 Just overall, it did not look like it was in good shape. I was seriously starting to think that I was being set up, but... Why? What had I done to cause this? I tried to be rational, though, and I called to make sure that I had the address correct. She confirmed, with a cheerful sound to her voice, and she said that she would meet me at the front door. I pulled into the driveway, and as I got out of the car, the same woman I had seen from the photos greeted me at the door. The only difference was that she looked a little more casual. She didn't have any makeup on and her hair was just in a messy bun and, to be honest, she looked great.
Starting point is 01:09:53 I like confident women that don't have to overdo it. So, looking past the house, I told myself that maybe she can't afford it or can't do it herself or just hasn't had the time to work on it. Whatever the reason, it wasn't a game changer for me and surely the inside would look much better. surely. I would love to tell you that I was right, but unfortunately I really can't. It was way too dark. As we entered the front door, the lights were off,
Starting point is 01:10:26 and when I expected her to turn them on, she apologized but said that she didn't have power. I didn't know how to respond to that, so I just looked around the best I could and could only say, Oh, I got you. as I spotted a single candle burning on what I assume was a coffee table. That's when it all started to come out. She said that she refused to use electricity in her home
Starting point is 01:10:53 because she knows it's part of a government conspiracy. She said they use it to take too many people hostage in their own homes. But she didn't even mean it like TV sucking the life out of people. She meant like they used the electrical waves to get into your head. As she ushered me to the kitchen, she explained how she used to work for the government, and she saw some pretty crazy things which was part of why she quit, because she knew that they were making her sick, worried that she knew too much. So now she only charged her phone, laptop, and tablet when she went to the library or local coffee shop.
Starting point is 01:11:36 She explained how she was okay with using them at home in small doses, because their power was strongest through anything plugged in. But she only used electronics in her closet, because she covered it in some kind of protective film she got from some guy online. I couldn't make this stuff up if I had to. At this point I kind of zoned out as I looked around her kitchen. It was still dark, but there were several large candles placed around the table, as well as many more lining the counter.
Starting point is 01:12:08 She even had one burning right next to the little gas camping burner she was using to make what, I assume, was our lunch. That's where I started to really feel uncomfortable. Where had this part of her been hiding? She seemed so normal the whole time we talked, so where was this hiding? Or why didn't she speak of any of this before? And in her case, why not try to find someone on conspiracy? theorists looking for love.com instead. Surely, since we were both still looking for someone in our 30s, she hadn't had much luck
Starting point is 01:12:47 either. So why not be up front with that kind of thing? I mean, that's kind of a big deal, right? So call me an ass, but it was way too much for me, and I didn't want to take the chance of getting blown up, so I asked if I could use the bathroom. She happily pointed it out to me, and I calmly, but quickly, ran to the bathroom, immediately pulling out my phone. I texted a buddy I worked with, who knew that I was going to be here, and I told him that I needed out. Telling him I would explain later, I asked him to call me in five minutes, saying that they needed me back at the office ASAP, so I had a reason to leave without looking like a jerk.
Starting point is 01:13:32 I put my phone back in my pocket, flushed the toilet, and washed my hands, thankful that she at least had running water, and I made my way to the door. However, I was startled to see her standing right on the other side, holding a single candle. I nearly screamed when I saw her, but then tried to laugh, commenting that she scared me. She didn't budge. And instead, without even breaking eye contact, She asked me what I was doing on my phone. I acted confused, telling her that I wasn't on my phone, but she called my bluff.
Starting point is 01:14:11 She said that she knew because she could sense the electricity being used. I was baffled. How the hell would she have known? How would she have sensed it? Reluctantly, I was semi-honest with her and admitted that I was on my phone because my coworker had texted me, demanding I come back due to an urgent issue that came up. I tried to explain to her that I had to run back to the office, but that I could return afterwards.
Starting point is 01:14:41 She wasn't falling forth, though. And I'm assuming this has happened to her before, because, from the light of the candle, I could see her brow furrowing as she grew angrier. I was trying to avoid this whole situation, so I tried to just comfort her and went to touch her arm. partially trying to get past her as she was blocking me in. But she pulled back yelling something like,
Starting point is 01:15:07 You're just like the others. What I didn't realize was that she was holding a pan in her other hand, and had now raised it over her head, ready to swing. I quickly jumped backwards and just barely got the bathroom door closed, but that hardly stopped her. I felt the thud several times from what I assumed was the pan hitting the door. I had to get out of there, as this was not going to look good for me. Regardless, I was in her home, and I didn't like my odds.
Starting point is 01:15:41 My only option was the window in the bathroom, and to my surprise, it wasn't nailed shut or something equally crazy, so I opened it and, thank God, it was just a single-story house. I managed to squeeze myself through the window that faced the backyard, ran to the side of the house, still hearing her screaming and quickly ran to my car. As I got to my car and started it, Tracy was flying through the front door, still carrying the frying pan. I started backing out when I heard a loud thud from my car. She'd thrown the pan at my car.
Starting point is 01:16:19 I sped off as I saw her yelling and pointing at me through the rear view. I made it back to work, parking in the far back. hoping that she wouldn't drive here looking for my car. I took a moment to look it over, and I saw the wonderful dent that she left in it, too, grueling at how much that was going to cost. I then went inside, and I told my coworker what had happened, as he joked about calling the cops because I missed his call.
Starting point is 01:16:48 I explained it all to him, and while he thought it was the funniest thing, he also said that I could press charges so that she had to pay for the damage. The thought crossed my mind at first, but then it felt like it would be even worse for both of us. I just decided to eat the cost and call it a lesson learned. Public place is only from now on, and I should probably just be honest with my dates, when I don't think it's going to work. For context, this happened just last night, and is among other things going on. My grandmother lives by herself,
Starting point is 01:17:36 a little double-wide. Out back there is a big backyard, a huge field that a neighbor farms, and woods behind that. I've always gotten the sensation something was out in those fields, older than the land, almost a part of the land. Last night she fell and dislocated her shoulder. My parents took her to the ER and I volunteered to keep watch overnight with her. As soon as I stepped foot into that house, I felt a pressure and an unclean feeling come over me. All through the night, my skin was crawling and I just felt unclean, like something was in the house with us. This morning I came back home, and my mom told me something that has me coming here for answers. She said that when she was helping my grandma out of the car that night, she saw something walk through the backyard.
Starting point is 01:18:30 She said the best word she could use to describe it was Werewolf. She said it was tall, gangly, and on all fours with eye shine. She's also felt the unclean feeling. I know a little bit about Skinwalkers, and what she described sounded a lot like one. I also study the paranormal, so I'm also of a negative spirit as the culprit. If it is a Skinwalker,
Starting point is 01:19:00 Would Catholic prayers and blessings work? Or would I need something else? I have a bit of a camping story that isn't your standard scary camping story. Mostly because what was scary wasn't a person, but the possibility of what could have happened versus what did end up happening. When I was around 10 or so, my parents took me and my older brother on a camping trip to a grounds that we'd actually gone camping on before.
Starting point is 01:19:43 To the best of my knowledge, there hadn't been any issues in this area prior, and I think what ended up happening to us was actually one of the first. So this was just supposed to be a normal camping trip for all of us, as a bit of a family vacation. My parents had a small trailer that they slept in, and my brother and I got the two room ten. I was 10 at the time, and James, my brother, was 12. He was more into sleeping on the ground than I was.
Starting point is 01:20:19 I personally preferred my bed, but I went along with these trips anyways, because I didn't really have much of a choice. He was the outdoorsy type. I preferred reading in my bedroom. That's pretty much the long short of it. Anyways, on the second day of this trip, My brother wanted to do some scouting in the area, which, for our age, more so meant that he wanted to walk around at the campsite
Starting point is 01:20:48 and find things to take his souvenirs. We never really took anything that could be damaging, just things like dropped feathers, small rocks, and every once in a while a flower or something like that. Basic things that we thought were neat or cool looking, but nothing that was ever too big. My parents were a bit hesitant at first, but in the end they said that we could go as long as we stayed close to the campsite. The first thing we did was break that rule, and we walked into the woods way farther than we should have.
Starting point is 01:21:25 My brother taking the lead, of course. He basically said that we were still in the area. We just needed to go a bit further to find the cooler things. I wasn't going to argue with him. It was his decision, and I would make sure that our parents knew that if we got into trouble. Anyways, we started heading out into the woods, and I was looking for random things like snails and frogs, just happy that I was actually enjoying my time, when my brother tells me to come over to him and to check something out. I get up from my spot and walk over to where he is, and he points over toward the tree line.
Starting point is 01:22:06 I looked over, and I was pretty psyched. I noticed that he was pointing toward a fox that was just kind of sitting in the open, sort of walking around, almost in circles. I was happy just seeing it. Foxes were cool to me, and to see one in the wild was good enough for me. James, on the other hand, did something that I thought was incredibly stupid. He started whistling to the fox like it was some kind of. kind of pet or something.
Starting point is 01:22:38 I told him to stop and that we needed to leave it alone, but he just kept going. He was even more enthused with his own decision when the fox started to actually walk towards us. I knew that something about this was off. Foxes are typically pretty skittish, at least to the best of my knowledge. And he wasn't approaching slowly. He was walking toward us at a decent pace. My thoughts that something was off was confirmed pretty quickly when the fox ran up to my brother and immediately started attacking him.
Starting point is 01:23:15 It latched on to my brother's leg and no matter how much he kicked, it was not stopping. It was jumping at him, biting his leg and trying to just genuinely cause damage and hurt him. I was standing there not sure what to do, trying to help him get away from this thing without getting bitten myself, but I was smaller than him. him and there was no way I was going to be able to help. Thankfully, all the noise and shouting got my dad's attention, and he showed up while the whole thing was going on. He saw the fox attacking my brother and me just kind of standing there
Starting point is 01:23:52 panicking, freaking out about what the hell I was supposed to do. My dad ran over and he was able to forcefully remove the fox and my brother from this situation. I'm not going to get into details because it was pretty horrible, but I understand what happened and why he did what he did. They obviously rushed my brother off the campsite to the ER, and they explained all of what had happened. This led to my brother having to get a series of shots for rabies, mostly because the behavior of the fox was abnormal,
Starting point is 01:24:32 and after they did test the fox, It was a good thing they did get him on the shots for it right away. Unfortunately, this also meant that the campgrounds had to shut down. A rabbit animal had been found on the grounds, and they couldn't risk the possibility of their being more, so they had to completely shudder for the season. In the end, my brother was okay. He survived the attack and the threat of rabies, and he now has a number of scars on his leg from his head.
Starting point is 01:25:04 where this thing went off. Obviously, we're all very thankful that he was okay, because the alternative would have been very likely fatal. This was also the last time that we went camping as a family, and the last time that I ever went camping in general. My brother is still a nature lover, but he kind of has a phobia of foxes now, for obvious reasons.
Starting point is 01:25:33 Hello Raven I want to thank you again for reaching out to me to let me know about my stories I decided that I would just sit here and go through the years in my head It seemed like the best way to remember things that have happened to me in my life This happened back in 1977 I was a lot younger then, that's for sure Well, I was driving back home from a band practice Yes, I was in a band
Starting point is 01:26:10 I had been in many bands for over 50 years, met a lot of people. I had gotten together with a couple of guys locally, and we had finished practice for the evening, and this one guy and I have to drive a little more than 30 miles to get back to town where we both lived. Back then, it was no big deal to travel 70 miles somewhere just to practice. The guy with me had been in the service,
Starting point is 01:26:37 and, as you recall, that was the very very, Vietnam era when he was in. So, he was no weedy. He had seen and been through some tough stuff, but he made it home. Now, he just wanted to enjoy his life and play music.
Starting point is 01:26:55 I was driving, and we had gone through two small towns on our way to our own. About halfway between the last small town and ours is a state park. Back then, they had just made a new entrance to the park. Now, you could pull directly into the park off the highway,
Starting point is 01:27:14 instead of having to go down a country road and down a long dirt road to enter the park. There was a median that separated the lanes of traffic back then, but back then, it was one that used to be raised about five to six inches. They've since done away with that raised cement, as it was probably found to be dangerous that way. Now, the road is divided merely with the white lines. We were heading south, and it was around 11 at night. Slightly foggy, but you could see a quarter mile easily enough.
Starting point is 01:27:48 We were just getting near the park area, and we were discussing some of the issues we were having with a certain song. Up ahead I could see a van with those yellow fog lights on, and a car followed by another car, headed towards us. There was no one behind us. We had just started to enter the division point, where the sign was, right in the middle and the van went past. Then, I saw something running across the road behind the van. The park was on our left, right there. Whatever it was, had come from the park area and run across,
Starting point is 01:28:26 through the traffic, heading for the other side of the highway. It looked like it may be four feet tall, and was covered with black or dark brown hair that looked to be about three inches long. It was running on two legs for sure, and was going to end up right in front of my car. I swerved to the right and then pulled back left to try and miss it. It jumped back and had grabbed the dividing sign with its right arm, and the other arm went out to the side. I swear if I had had my window down and my arm out,
Starting point is 01:29:01 I would have been able to slap it in the face. It was that close. We got past it, and I then yelled at my front. friend. Did you see that? He looked like he saw it better than I did. He was really rattled. All he would repeat saying was, keep going, keep going. I said that I wanted to turn around and see if we could find it. He kind of yelled at me. No, no, keep going. He would not let me turn that car around. I never saw him like that before. Now, this guy had been in the military and had seen action. So he was no chicken.
Starting point is 01:29:41 I kept on our way home, and I went to drop him off at his house. He got out and went in. Didn't say goodbye, see ya, nothing. It had really upset him. I never brought it up with him after that night. I don't think he ever mentioned it to anyone. I myself only mentioned it to a couple of close friends, and, of course, they looked at me funny. My friend passed away several years ago from liver failure due to drinking heavily.
Starting point is 01:30:13 So I don't have my friend or a witness to this anymore. That was before I had ever heard about this stuff about Bigfoot or Sasquatch. Years later, I still often wonder if that was what we saw that night. Then, after all that time, I realized something. I thought of something that I hadn't even considered. If that was a juvenile Bigfoot, how close was mom and dad? So this happened when I was about nine. My family went on a camping trip, which included my mom, dad, and my two siblings, Ross and Katie.
Starting point is 01:31:09 I don't remember the exact place we went, but it was somewhere in West Virginia. We'd been there before, and while I didn't have the place memorized or anything, I did like the area. The campgrounds always had a lot of other kids around, and this one actually had a playground in it. We usually camped close enough to it that they would let me walk to it to play when I didn't want to fish or while I was waiting for dinner. However, this year, we weren't able to get a spot by the place. playground. I was upset, but I thought that they would just walk me over there to play some. I was looking forward to the playground this year, because my brother and sister were older, and they didn't want to be around me as much. I had already experienced this on occasion at home.
Starting point is 01:32:06 As I was sure I was pouting in the car, my mom promised me that we would still get to visit. We had stayed at least one night so far, because my dad always wanted to take all of us fishing, and we had spent most of the day doing that. Then, the next day, we all went on some trail together, and then we had one full day left as we were going to leave the next morning. I was starting to believe I was lied to, and I wasn't going to be able to go to the playground, so, as kids said, do, I started whining and complaining. My mom finally gave in and told my siblings to walk there with me, so we could play around a bit before we left that day. We drove past it when getting to our spot, so I knew it was down the trail, and it went
Starting point is 01:33:01 around a curve. Then there was a small fork that led to the playground and a community grill area, as well us some picnic tables. We started walking down that way when we heard a vehicle coming up behind us, which was fairly normal because it was a road, but then we heard it getting closer, so we got over to the side.
Starting point is 01:33:25 But this truck was going way too fast. When it sped by us, it was so loud and it nearly knocked me over. I remember my brother yelling out to it, but they didn't stop or slow down, or anything. We just continued to make our way to the playground. When we got there, I started going across the monkey bars and just doing what I had been waiting
Starting point is 01:33:50 all weekend for. As some of the kids started clearing out, the few of us left wanted to play hide and seek. It was the perfect place to do it with all the trees and bushes. I knew I could find a great place to hide, so we started playing. and my siblings even got involved too. I took off into the trees, hoping to find a great spot. Looking back, we definitely should have set boundaries so that we didn't get too far, but I didn't even consider it either.
Starting point is 01:34:25 I just wanted to find the best spot. I ran into the trees while looking around, and, before I realized it, I had run in pretty deep. I couldn't even hear Ross counting anymore. I went a little further in and I found a big pile of leaves and branches. I was still pretty small, so I thought that I could easily hide in it. I started moving around some of the brush so that I could jump in it when I started hearing talking. The voices sounded distressed, and being a curious kid,
Starting point is 01:35:02 I decided it was more important to check it out. I walked past the brush pile and a little further in. I could finally see people. There was a guy and a girl sitting on the ground. The girl was holding her knees close to her chest while the guy was on his knees. Then I saw the bigger, scarier guy pacing in front of them, as well as the truck that we saw earlier speeding by. The guy was pacing, yelling at the people about high.
Starting point is 01:35:36 hiding something from them, and they were insisting that they weren't. The woman had started crying, so the pacing guy then pulled out a gun, and somehow managed to scream at this woman without actually screaming. He pointed the gun at her, and he started whispering something as his face turned red, and made her quiet instantly. This was when my clumsy self backed up, seeing the gun, and I apparently made a noise. All three of them immediately looked toward me, but I'm pretty sure they didn't see me, though. The trees were very big, and I at least felt like I was pretty well hidden, not to mention I was pretty scared stiff.
Starting point is 01:36:21 So I held still, and as the gun-toting guy looked around, he said something to them about coming back, and then got in his truck and sped away. I was pretty freaked out at this point, and maybe even slightly worried that he may have seen me. So I started running away, back the way I came. Or at least I thought I was. I seemed to be running around for a while, and I never came across the playground. I started to become overwhelmed and terrified that I was lost in the woods, and that no one would find me.
Starting point is 01:36:59 Or even worse, the guy with the guy with the way. the gun would. I just remember starting to cry and walk around until I finally heard people talking. I looked around and saw two ladies standing nearby with a kid, and I ran towards them. I don't know why, but I felt like I was safe with them. The older one crouched down to be at eye-level with me and asked me what was wrong and where my family was. I was afraid to tell them about the people I saw, and,
Starting point is 01:37:32 I just told them that I had gotten lost from the playground. They said I had gone pretty far from there and walked with me down to the ranger's cabin to help me find my family. Thankfully, the ranger took me in their golf cart up the road and from the playground, I was able to guide them back to my family. To my surprise, Ross and Katie were already back there, and they said that they thought I ended up going back there too as they needed to never found me.
Starting point is 01:38:04 I don't even know how long I was actually missing. I was pretty shaken up, and I guess my mom could see that there was something more than just being lost, so she kept asking me if I was okay, or if something happened. I finally told her what I saw, and she told my dad, too. My dad didn't act like it was a big deal, saying I probably just stumbled across a bunch of drunks, but thankfully my mom didn't stand for it. I could tell she was pretty worried about it without letting me see, based on the way she was whispering things to my dad.
Starting point is 01:38:43 I would say that she won, though, because we ended up leaving that night, and stayed at a motel for the last night and went to a lake. As far as I know, the gun guy was never found, not that there was anything he probably could have been arrested for, but I'm convinced that if I wasn't there, those people may have ended up dead. So, I do hope that those people are okay.
Starting point is 01:39:11 And as for the speeding truck and gun-wielding guy, I hope that I never see you again. Okay, this one is a doozy. Apologies if I get things wrong grammatically, as I'm extremely paranoid at the moment. I live in the UK, definitely. on with my dog. It's important to note that there's a huge expanse of woods behind the house.
Starting point is 01:39:45 Early last month, this thing that looks and sounds exactly like me began to show itself directly to me. But I fear it's actually been around for much, much longer. About four years ago, my parents, grandmother and cousins were over at mine for a get-together. I remember my mother going to smoke around the back. Not even a minute's after going out, she comes back in all flustered and asking me why I was outside in the woods. She said as I was staring at her blankly. The thing is, I wasn't.
Starting point is 01:40:22 I was inside with my grandmother and my dad. My mom, bless her soul, passed it off as just seeing things. Stupidly, so did I. Cut to last year, I was in my lounge when my dog ran off and, the conservatory barking like mad. This wasn't really surprising, as we do have quite a few rabbits and other vermin around the area. That was until, I kid you not, I heard my freaking voice talking in the conservatory. I checked outside.
Starting point is 01:40:56 Nothing. Nothing at all. Last month while cleaning the kitchen, I saw me outside in the woods. It looked one to one with me. This thing didn't move an inch. It was like a statue. I froze in place. I guess it was more the shock of seeing myself with my own two eyes physically.
Starting point is 01:41:19 I leapt over to the conservatory door, and it was gone. In the split time, it took me to go to the door. This thing was gone. Last Saturday, I was upstairs on a work assignment when I heard my freaking voice asking to be let in. My dog was going nuts and got worse when this thing was clawing and scratching at my windows and door. I contacted the police, and I'm away at my parents' house for the time being. I don't know what to tell people, or if they'll even believe me. I just want this to end.
Starting point is 01:41:55 Any advice? Because I'm dreading when I see this thing again. Or what it'll do. The original poster did add a second post to this, so I would. would like to include the information. Apologies for my lack of response to y'all's replies. I'm not that involved with online stuff, unfortunately. Thank you so much for all your replies and suggestions.
Starting point is 01:42:20 I wasn't expecting such a response. I've read most of their replies on that thread and thought I would answer a few of them on this post. Feel free to ask any more questions below, as I'll get back to as many of them as I can. Number one, mental health. I saw quite a few of y'all mention this on the last post. I don't suffer from any mental health issues.
Starting point is 01:42:44 I think the most I have is a short temper, but that's besides the point. Unless I need to protect myself in the future from this thing. I'll double check, though. Number two, how do we know you're the real you, huh? Thanks for the chuckle. First one I've gotten in a while. Number three, get some carbon monoxide monitors, and set up cameras.
Starting point is 01:43:09 I don't know how I didn't think to do this in the first place, but thank you for reminding me to do so. We'll do. I'll double-check the carbon monitors, especially as I've been experiencing migraines, and generally feeling unwell recently. Cams are a go-to, so I'll get some installed. Four, maybe it's future you time-traveling to the past to warn you.
Starting point is 01:43:34 Well, I won't be getting any sleep tonight. interesting thought 5. I literally live in Devon and I'm freaking out reading this post. Whereabouts are you? As I said on the last post, I'm currently at my parents, an Exeter, but I live just outside Taunus. Number six. Was it clothed? Was it wearing my clothes?
Starting point is 01:43:58 Yes. I have a flannel shirt that I wear often, and it was wearing that. I'll ask my mother if it was wearing that. I'll ask my mother if it was was also wearing the shirt when she saw it. Seven, is this fiction. Believe me, my wish. As I said, I'll get some cameras up and running to capture this thing next time it decides to show up. As I said, please ask any more questions that I missed here, and I'll get back.
Starting point is 01:44:27 Thank you all again.
