Astrology of the Week Ahead with Chani Nicholas - The Week of August 19th, 2024: A hectic start to Virgo season
Episode Date: August 19, 2024Episode 192 In this podcast, New York Times best-selling author and astrologer Chani Nicholas discusses the astrology of the week and what it might mean for us all. The astrology of the week of Augus...t 19th, 2024, is packed with chaos. On Monday, Venus (the planet of beauty) opposes Saturn (the planet of structure), adding some strain to our pleasure pursuits. Then, the Sun squares Uranus (the planet of disruption), destabilizing outdated structures to make way for new ones. Later, the Full Moon in Aquarius forms a square to Uranus and brings another shock to our collective efforts. But it also nudges us to approach old modes of being from new perspectives. Afterward, Jupiter (the planet of bounty) forms an exact square to Saturn in a moment of era-defining astrology. This marks the peak of the planets’ discord and forces us to choose a path forward. On Thursday, the Sun enters Virgo and moves out of its square to Uranus, which turns down the heat but ups the frenzy already happening in Virgo. Later that day, Venus squares Mars (the planet of action), creating both sparks and tension in matters of beauty and play. Finally, on Friday, Mercury (the planet of communication) retrograde sextiles Mars, ushering in some relief to the week and prompting us to review a problem and more clearly articulate our arguments. Overall, this week promises to be both tumultuous and productive. This episode was recorded on 08/05/2024. By the time you're listening to this podcast, most of what I'm about to say and the wild events
that are going to be taking place this week may already be underway. Monday's astrology is so big
and it is so pronounced. And it's really honestly so over the top that I think it will be obvious
already. Hello and welcome. This is the Astrology of the Week Ahead podcast. I'm your host,
your Astro Bestie, Chani, Nicholas. In this podcast, we look at the astrology of the upcoming week
and how it will be landing for all of us collectively. For a more personalized reading that
dives into the ways that this week's astrology will play out for you, download the Chani app.
I'm so glad you're here. I'm so glad to be there. I'm so glad to be
living out these wild astrological moments with you. Because when we are looking at the sky and then
seeing these big huge signatures that are startling and loud and unmistakably pronounced. And then we're
also living out the events in real time on Earth together, it gives us this real insight into what
astrology actually is, which is an incredible tool that we can work with if we want.
And if the events in the sky and the events on the earth are lining up in these really profound
ways, then quite possibly our own birth charts are also going to have that kind of information.
So if listening to this podcast at any point makes you curious.

There's so much material there that speaks to your exact and specific life purpose. Okay.
This week's life purpose is to create a lot of chaos. There's something that happens on Monday,
which again, because this podcast comes out on Sunday, it feels.
It feels like you might already know what I'm talking about. I don't know what I'm talking about because I'm looking into the future. I'm recording this at the beginning of August, which isn't too far out. Normally I record like months and months out, but we, you know, got derailed. Mercury is very retrograde. Here we are. I'm closer than I usually am to the moment. Now, the full moon that we had last month, July's full moon on July 19th was also exceptionally significant.
some very significant world events happened at that moment. And the reason why that full moon was
really significant, I won't go too deep into it, was because the full moon's signature was significant.
It was happening at the end of Capricorn right next to Pluto, which felt like an eerie kind of
ending of something. Maybe not eerie, but it felt like a very pronounced ending. Then at the same week,
there was the Mars Uranus conjunction, which happens about every two years and it's always going to be
disruptive. So the two things happening in the same week, astrologically, is a big like,
huh, red flag, pause, what's going to go on that week. So there was an assassination attempt on a
presidential candidate. There was a sitting president, presidential candidate in the upcoming
election that dropped out. There was a new presidential candidate put forward. Now we have something
happening on August 19th, astrologically. That's a really big deal. Again, it's two things happening
at the same time. There is a cluster of planets meeting up that give all kinds of reason for pause,
like, whoa, that's a very defining kind of signature. And then there's a full moon. And these two things
are happening on the same day. So let's talk about what those things are. We had some
of it last week. It's carrying on into this week. But this full moon just feels like, you know,
in the emoji section of your phone when there's like the two big red exclamation points together,
that's what this feels like. Because we have what we call a T square in modern astrology. It's
planets lining up in an opposition and then another set of planets or a planet lining up to square
both of those things, literally like a T. And this creates a tremendous amount of friction and
polarization. So the planets that are lined up right now, and again, some of them perfected what
they were doing last week, some of them are perfecting what they do this week. We've got Mars and Jupiter
in Gemini creating all kinds of absurdist, ridiculous, ridiculous,
memified kind of moments. It is the articulation of something gone wild. It has been a mixture of
heinous and hilarious, as it would be, but it is the thoughts, the ideas, and the communications
just flourishing in ways that are both extra-heated and exceptionally magnified. So this is a time of a lot of
conversation. And that signature, the Mars Jupiter, is in a square to Saturn. So Saturn square
Mars happened last week. And that was the very crunchy, hard, difficult situation and reality
check that we had to deal with. And we had to like find our way through. That's still happening,
but it's that it perfected. It was exact last week. This Monday,
We've got Venus who's in Virgo sitting across from Saturn, making that opposition to Saturn.
So that makes pleasure and cohesion and finding our way together a little challenging.
And it just so happens that the wee hours of the 19th of August, Venus is in between a square to Mars and an opposition to Saturn, which means that it is, we call like, besieged.
It is enclosed. It is in a really tough jam. So Venusian-type things and Venetian-type people
are going to find themselves in a jam at the very beginning of the week. It doesn't last forever.
Like, it doesn't last the entirety of the day even. But it just seems like anything to do with
women, women that are being pronounced something, especially on that day. Femms, LGBTQ, IA folks,
stylists, artists, entertainers, people that are in the arts and create beauty dancers,
etc., have a particularly rough time, especially because Venus is in a sign that it does
have a hard time in. So we've got the Venus Saturn opposition, but way more importantly,
probably, is that we've got a Jupiter Saturn square. We've got a Jupiter Saturn square that
happens on the 19th. This is era-defining astrology. This isn't just like,
defining for the year, this is a really important astrological event because it speaks to the shape
of world events. So, what do I mean? Back in December of 2020, Jupiter and Saturn came together
to make a conjunction. It was called the Great Conjunction. You might remember it. It was gorgeous
in the sky. You could see like these sparkly planets and it was just, it was really profound.
That was the beginning of a new situation.
That was the beginning of a brand new cycle for the world.
Now these two are at their first square.
Now when planets come to the, we call it the opening square, it's like, okay, what direction
are we going to go in?
That was the conjunction.
That was the coming together.
Now where are we going to go?
What are we going to do?
There is a kind of crisis of action, we might say, like, I've got to take this action and I've got to go in a direction.
So it feels like, looks like, and it's not just this day, but it just so happens on this day.
It just so happens to be happening on this day.
That also features a very loud, disruptive full moon.
We want to think of this Jupiter-Saturn Square, though, as happening.
for the entirety of the year. This is just a punctuation point. So what in the world, what in the world
is being formed right now? What is taking shape on this day on August 19th? It's not good or bad.
It's just like what direction are we going in? And it's specifically related again to what was
happening in 2020. So that might be obvious to us or not, but I do think that whatever big events
are happening in the world, whatever country they might be happening in, those events are very
connected to the shape of things, to the shape of things globally. So it's an extraordinarily
important moment day that is then punctuated with a full moon in Aquarius.
Yes, like that. It's shaky because this full moon in Aquarius is exactly square. So again, we're having
that point of friction. So the sun and Mercury are in Leo. Leo. The moon is in Aquarius. And they are both
forming what we call again a T-square in modern astrology, a square to Uranus. And it's exact. It's like
there. So it's not often.
in that you get a full moon with such a precise connection to another planet. And when that planet
is so disruptive and irregular and unprecedented, like who needs another unprecedented moment,
and unconventional, indifferent and odd and strange, and also out of the blue, shocking.
it destabilizes things so that something new could emerge.
Now, again, these things aren't bad.
I do think the Venus problem that we have early on the day of the 19th is something like I, you know,
want to pay attention to.
And again, that's, you know, something that could impact a great, many different
situations the world over.
But just the fact that this full moon happens in a way that is kind of,
unnerving or at least unsettling or at least there's some disruption is really important to note
that it's happening the same time that these two like world order planets Jupiter and Saturn
make a very important first square after their conjunction. No big deal. No pressure. I'm sure the week
will be totally normal. You know, like nothing out of the ordinary will happen. But just in case it does,
we can say like, wow, that full moon really did its thing. And maybe it's that what happens on the 19th
is so different than what has traditionally happened. Maybe it's just describing some of the events that
we already know are going to take place. Maybe it's not a surprise event. But maybe it is. Because this
moon is in Aquarius. It is about people power. It is about the collective. It is about groups of
folks for sure. And because Mercury and the Sun are traveling together on Sunday on the 18th,
Mercury and the Sun made a Kazimi. That was again exactly square Uranus. So it feels like we're
moving into Monday with already some very shocking news. And it might be related to what we learned
back in July, because this is the second time Mercury is doing this because Mercury is retrograde,
so it's moving back into some old news. Something is different all of a sudden. We begin the
week with something changing, something being different. At least that's what the astrology is saying.
So we can test it out. We can see. Like, is this just describing what we already knew what was going
to happen? Or is this something that is like, oh, didn't see that coming, but here we are. Or
other people called it, people knew it, it wasn't totally shocking, but nothing like this has ever
really happened, not in this way, et cetera, et cetera. Then on the 22nd of August, the sun shifts
signs and it moves into Virgo. Now, on one hand, this takes some heat off of the table out of the
equation because the sun is no longer in that square to Uranus. So the rumbling, changing,
destabilizing, eventful energy is shifting. But in another way, the sun is moving into Virgo,
which is one of the hotspots in the chart of the moment because there are so many planets
and mutable signs still. And on Thursday, we've got a Venus square Mars.
So this is, again, part of that first T-square we started talking about. It's part of this mutable
configuration. And I want to talk about what it means to have so many planets in mutable
signs right now. We've got Venus, we've got Mars, we've got Jupiter, and we've got Saturn. That's
four of the seven, and now the sun. That's five of the seven traditional planets that we work with. It's
five of the 10 if you include the modern. So it's at least half, if not much more than half,
planets and mutable signs, which means that we've got a mixed situation. It's not one thing or the
other. It's not good or bad. It's somewhere in between. It's not here or there. It's traveling
to and fro. It is not solid. There's nowhere solid to go. The thing that happened on Monday with
that full moon, those planets were in fixed signs. And that was much.
more solid and definitive. So it's not the only story in town, but it's a big one. And we want to
look at life and the world in shades of gray, if you will, if that's not too cheesy. Because, again,
if we're looking for perfect and imperfect, we're going to be so disappointed. If we're looking for
absolutes, we're going to be totally misguided. We have to have moral clarity for sure, for sure, for
sure and we have to be willing to be quite agile and flexible about how we are working with
the moment because it is a moment when it's so mutable where everything is in flux. It's just the
vibe that we're in. We've not landed anywhere yet. The other thing about the sun moving into
Virgo is that it moves us into the next eclipse season. I don't want to tell you that. Honestly,
I really don't actually because we're having all of this huge astrology and the last thing I want to do is be like,
and by the way, the next full moon will be an eclipse in Pisces, the first one of its kind for the last couple decades.
I don't want to tell you that because like enough with the unprecedented full moons.
But I got to say the full moons of July, August, and September are kind of.
They just are kind of.
So you can think about the full moons.
of hitting these notes of like, whoa.
The clip season is a whole different thing.
We'll get into it in the next couple of weeks.
But just to say, it does move us in that direction.
Okay, so we're moved into Virgo season.
We love Virgo season.
We've also got Venus in Virgo Square Mars in Gemini.
So this could be like fighting words.
This can be parsing out some very,
specific insults. This can be really challenging to the mind in a way. And it can be really hard
in our interpersonal issues. But on a personal level, it can exacerbate the problem so that we've
got a better handle on what it is so that we can actually confront it, work with it, understand it.
It's like something gets hot to the point of like, ouch, I can't ignore that anymore. What is it?
there's a shortness to the moment.
It's biting. It just is.
It also can be, you know, a challenging moment for Mars-type people and Venus-type people and the engagement they're in.
We know it's a hard Venus week anyways.
And we start Monday with a challenge and we end Thursday with that challenge.
So we know, again, Venusian types of things and Venusian types of people are going to be attacked.
this week or there's going to be some kind of hot poker.
Or there's like, these topics get heated.
Again, they get parsed out.
Again, that helps us to understand what the issue is and how to focus on it and work with
it.
But I don't think it'll feel particularly lovely.
And then on Friday, we've got mercury, still retrograde.
the translator, the orator, the orator, the one who can put information together and make sense of it in a very nice sex style to Mars. Finally, Mars helps us out. So Mercury is articulating something Martian that is helpful. And because Mars is in Gemini, which is Mercury's sign and these two are linking up, this is like a helpful reframe, a helpful redo, a helpful. A helpful.
rethinking of something, rethinking of a problem, rethinking of an issue, rethinking of whatever it is
that we are backtracking about. It's also really good for making an argument and being very clear
about your argument and being able to attack when necessary. So I think the verbal sparring does
not calm down this week. I think that there will be some very, probably funny, engaging and
entertaining conversations because Mars and Gemini is maybe like a disaster, but it's an
entertaining one or there are elements of it that are pretty humorous. I got to say, it's a pretty
humorous combination. It's like, oh, this is awful and this is why. And it's able to articulate it.
So there's something on Friday that gets articulated in that way. Yeah, it's thrilling to open up
our email on Friday from our customer service team because every single week, they send us a
compilation of the reviews that you all leave in the app store. And they fill us up after we
have spent the week working on the app. So thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you for
taking the time out of your busy life and day to leave us a review for the Chani app in the app store.
I wanted to leave you with this one. It's called I've never felt more seen. First, I'd like to say
thank you for the generous free trial during this retrograde and eclipse season. Your app has
provided me such clarity and calm through the chaos. And I am only halfway through reading my chart,
but I have never felt more seen and understood in my life. The
advice you provide with your analysis was a warm hug of reassurance I needed. I'm so grateful for
this guidance. Chani is a gem. Okay y'all. Next week we have Mercury stationing direct. Yay. And we've
got Venus moving in to Libra, which is exceptionally, exceptionally helpful for all the Venusian issues
and all the Venetian people and all the Venetian situations,
I hope it brings us a little bit of loveliness and some moments of bonding.
We can always hope.
I will see you back here next week for more on that.
In the meantime, take notes.
What is happening?
What does this full moon bring?
What is the Saturn, Jupiter situation that you can see?
taking shape in the world, does it relate to something that started in 2020, maybe for you
personally, maybe, you know, globally? And then for those of you that have planets and mutable
signs, Gemini, Virgo, Saj, and Pisces, especially around 17 degrees of any of those signs,
this is another big week for you. Last week was as well. This one is as well. If you're feeling
like a little bit of a pinch, but also a lot of gas in your tank and like trying to get the energy
to move in a certain direction. Just keep at it. Be sturdy, be reliable, be stable, be, I don't know,
be on it because you're going to find your way through it. And also after this week,
a lot of these tensions and a lot of this like really kind of clustered energy of like,
whoa, everything's everywhere. I can't really grasp anything, but I also can't move anywhere.
it's all getting released. And we'll definitely feel that, you know, post Thursday, I think,
after that last tense square between Venus and Mars. The sun is now going to do all this stuff,
but it's different because the sun moves so quickly. And these tensions have been building for a while.
So there's a little bit of reverb, but there's a lot that we get to, like, enjoy now.
There's a lot more spaciousness, especially post last week's.
Mars Saturn Square. Oh my God, you guys, I just realized that Pluto's also moving back into
Capricorn next week, next Sunday. So there's that. I mean, it's not like unprecedented astrology,
but it is the very, very, very, very, very, very end of Pluto's time in Capricorn from then next Sunday,
September, the end of September, to like November 19th. So I don't know if you know of anything important
happening, you know, October, November of 2024. But the fact that Pluto's finishing up its time
in Capricorn during that section of 2024 is interesting. And I don't know if this is relatable or
relates to it, but the United States of America just so happens to have Pluto and
Capricorn at the last, like, little bit of Capricorn.
And this is the United States very first Pluto return, which signifies something about
changes and endings and maybe even a rebirth.
Who knows?
Let's live it out and see.
But any part of your chart that has the very last degree of Capricorn in it will be
revisited by this planet. So again, check the Chaniap. See what your horoscope is like once Pluto
moves back into Capricorn next Sunday. Sending you lots of love, many blessings. Please share this with people.
