Astrology of the Week Ahead with Chani Nicholas - The Week of August 22nd, 2022: Virgo season begins and there’s a New Moon in Virgo

Episode Date: August 22, 2022

In this podcast, New York Times bestselling author and astrologer Chani Nicholas discusses the astrology of the week and what it might mean for us all. The astrology of the week of August 22nd, 2022, ...is here to help us to scrape away the gunk that’s clogging our minds, communications, and relationships with precision. On Monday, the Sun moves into earthy, mutable Virgo, highlighting the beauty in the details, and on Saturday, the New Moon in Virgo occurs. Unlike typical New Moons, this lunation isn’t great for planting seeds. Instead, it cuts close to the bone and brings a critical, sharp, and analytical eye to everything we touch — thanks to an exact square to Mars. This aspect adds an inflammatory lens to the week, but it also lends us the courage to do the things we need to do, no matter how unpleasant. So if you know how to work with it, it can actually be quite productive. We also have some exciting news — last week, we officially launched daily content in the CHANI app. That means personalized daily horoscopes, a snapshot of the current Moon phase and sign, daily featured meditations, and so much more. So if you haven’t already, update your app and enjoy. And if you’re an Android user, you can now find your daily horoscope on the CHANI website. For more, check out your free daily horoscope on the homepage of the CHANI app. Android users can receive their free daily horoscope on the CHANI website. The CHANI app is currently only available for the iPhone, but we are working as hard and as fast as we can on an Android app. In the meantime, Android users can access our content by purchasing the Android Workshops on chaninicholas.com. Starting point is 00:00:39 This is the Astrology of the Week Ahead podcast, and I am your host, Channy Nicholas. In this podcast, we look at the astrology of the upcoming week and how it will be landing for all of us collectively. For a more personalized reading that dives into the ways that this week's astrology will play out for you, download the Chani app for iPhone. In this episode, we are looking at the week of August.
Starting point is 00:01:17 August 22nd, aka the very beginning of Virgo season. The sun moves into this earthy mutable sign on August 22nd at 8.16 p.m. Pacific time, which brings up a good point. I know that we like to think about the sun sign seasons as beginning and ending on the same day every year, which isn't always so because obviously, obviously, if you're in a time zone that's later than Eastern standard time, then the sun is entering Virgo on August 23rd. And given the fact that sometimes we have a leap year and that the sun will move into a sign at a specific time,
Starting point is 00:02:07 roughly the same day every year, but give or take a day some years, we can be born on the same day as someone else, and have a different sun sign because it really is about the specific moment that the sun moves in to that new sign. And I am being incredibly detail-oriented about all of this data in honor of the sun entering Virgo.
Starting point is 00:02:36 Obviously. Okay, another piece of intel that I really want to get to is that not every new moon is a wonderful, fantastic moment to plant new seeds of intention with. And this week brings us such a new moon. On Saturday, August 27th at 117 a.m. Pacific time. The new moon in Virgo will occur. As much as I would love to tell you that this is a fantastic new moon to work with,
Starting point is 00:03:09 that is not my job. My job is to bring you the truth. And the truth about this new moon is that it is a critical, sharp, analytical, maybe even decisive new moon that cuts really close to the bone. So this is the thing about new moons. When astrologers say that a new moon is a good one or that a specific astrological moment is a good one, it means that there's no quote unquote harmful aspects happening. It means that there's no hard aspects from Mars or Saturn, usually. And then quite often there's nothing from Neptune, Pluto, Uranus happening that's going
Starting point is 00:03:57 to throw a wrench in the works. The thing about this new moon is it is happening in an exact square to Mars. Now, the square in traditional astrology is Mars's signature move. So Mars is extra potent in a square, we could say, which means it's extra searing or hot or inflammatory or cutting. And because Mars right now is in the other sign that's ruled by Mercury, Mars is in Gemini right now. we know that words might land with a sharper edge than we might even mean them to. And because Mars is going to be in Gemini for the next seven months, because it will station retrograde at the very end of October, we also know that while Mars is in Gemini, the stuff
Starting point is 00:04:55 that starts to surface will be issues that we'll have to work through for the next half a year or so. Now, an exact square between a new moon and Mars isn't life enhancing. And that's what we want in a new moon. We want a new moon that is fertile, that is life enhancing, that has good conditions so that something can grow with it, from it alongside it. But because Mars severs, it cuts, it goes its own way. it's not a planet that's associated with conception or with growth. However, of course, we need Mars in order to grow.
Starting point is 00:05:43 We need to be able to defend what's vulnerable. We need to be able to protect what needs to be nourished. We need to be able to cut ties with things that are toxic. And that's what Mars can do. Mars helps us to rally the courage and to take the, action necessary to do the things that we might not want to do, but that are very necessary for our survival and eventually for our ability to thrive. Because the moon is about conception and beginning and, again, this type of fertility bringing things about. This new moon isn't good
Starting point is 00:06:23 for planting seeds that we want to grow into something that will flourish, et cetera, et However, what this new moon is really good for is scouring. It's abrasive enough to break up what has become calcified. So if we think of this new moon as helping us to scrape away or unclog the channels in our life, parts of our mind, parts of our communications, because these are both Mercury ruled situations, then we might be able to work with this in a really productive way. The ruler of this new moon is Mercury. By the time this new moon happens, Mercury will have moved into Libra. That happens on Thursday. Mercury moves into Libra and this new moon happens on Saturday. Now, the interesting thing about Mercury being in Libra is that is where Mercury will station
Starting point is 00:07:25 retrograde on September 9th. So Mercury is very much in its pre-retrograde shadow phase, which means we'll be circling back around to the topics of the moment come September 9th. Now, Mercury is also in a good relationship with Mars. So what all of this says to me, this new moon setup, is that there's something. about being able to use the skill of being specific and discerning and critical in a way that can help us and to be very aware of the ways in which it can impede us. So knowing both sides of this sword is what this new moon is all about. If you want to know what that means for you specifically, we focus on that in your weekly readings in the workshop section of the Chaniab.
Starting point is 00:08:28 It just so happens that this weekend, when the new moon is occurring, Venus is also going from a square to Uranus to an opposition with Saturn, which can definitely make the moment a little extra edgy and a little harder for us to feel like we're connected. Uranus disrupts things. Venus is about relationships. And Saturn definitely lays down some boundaries. So there's some good boundary work that we can do in our relationships, both with ourselves and with each other. And it just might make Friday and Saturday a little sharper than we'd like. So one of the main themes is not to take everything so personally to know that we might all. be in a moment of collective critique. And sometimes it's really helpful to stop with the analytics,
Starting point is 00:09:28 to stop with the critique and just go put yourself down for a nap, for a refresh, to remember to connect with your joy, with the loves of your life, with art, with pleasure, and with play. It all has to be balanced. And Venus going through this tumultuous, little bumpy but very clarifying moment is reminding us to absolutely without a doubt protect our joy. And to get very clear on what brings us a sense of connection, what lends our life meaning through sweetness and through relationship and through beauty. Listen, when I say that the app reviews pick us up and lift our spirits at the end of the. of the week. I am not just saying that. I really mean it. On Fridays, our customer service team sends us a round
Starting point is 00:10:32 roundup of some of the best reviews. And I wanted to share one with you. Chani explains life one week at a time. That's the title of it. I love this app immensely. Chani decodes the mysteries of the planets, their placement, and how it impacts me in the world in a language I can understand. Her guidance, suggestions and meditations are a daily go-to for me. In fact, many times a day, it truly supports me in working to become the best version of myself and has had a transformative effect on my everyday experience. Thank you, Chani, team. Like getting that at the end of the week when everyone is depleted and tired and has, you know, done a great job, but still it's Friday is so refueling and refilling and honestly just thank you so much for taking the time out to write us a review on
Starting point is 00:11:25 the app store. All right y'all, that is the reading for the week. Again, for more, go listen to your reading for this week in the workshop section of the Chani app. Sending you lots of love, tenderness, ease, sweetness, and patience for this week. Don't let Mars and the square from it get the best of you or get the better of you. Know what tends to get your blood boiling, what tends to send you off in a little bit of a tirade, and refuse to be allured by it. Lots of deep breaths. Bye for now.
