Astrology of the Week Ahead with Chani Nicholas - The Week of May 1st, 2023: A grand finale: The last lunar eclipse in Scorpio

Episode Date: May 1, 2023

Episode 124 In this podcast, New York Times bestselling author and astrologer Chani Nicholas discusses the astrology of the week and what it might mean for us all.  The astrology of the week of May 1...st, 2023, requires that we bolster our systems for deep exfoliation. On Monday, there’s an illuminating Mercury cazimi, which gives us a day of clarity amid the retrograde cycle. Also on Monday, Pluto (the planet of transformation) stations retrograde, pulling focus on themes of power and agency. On Thursday, Venus (the planet of love) squares Neptune (the planet of daydreams) and sextiles Jupiter (the planet of abundance), setting us up for a day that is full of delight — and possible excess. Then, on Friday, the week’s major astrology happens: There’s a lunar eclipse in Scorpio, which activates release, catharsis, and general intensity. This is the last one of its kind for the next two decades. Lastly, on Sunday, Venus moves into Cancer, blessing the part of our charts that contains the sign of the crab. Since the big news this week is the lunar eclipse in Scorpio, allow yourself the space to process your emotions and find closure where you need it.  For more, check out your free daily horoscope on the homepage of the CHANI app. Android users can receive their free daily horoscope on the CHANI website. Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello and welcome. This is the Astrology of the Week Ahead podcast, and I'm your host, Chani, Nicholas. In this podcast, we look at the astrology of the upcoming week and how it will be landing for all of us collectively. For a more personalized reading that dives into the ways that this week's astrology will play out for you, download the Chani app for iPhone. All right, y'all, this week we've got a very wild-looking, eclipse. The eclipse happens at the end of the week. It's happening on Friday, May 5th. It is the last eclipse that we're going to have in Scorpio near the South Node for like a couple of decades. So it is the
Starting point is 00:00:56 ending of a story that has been going on in our chart and in our life for the past year. And this is a Scorpio eclipse. So Scorpio loves an ending. Scorpio loves a deep and transformative experience. This is also a South Node eclipse, which means it is about letting go and releasing and clearing something away. So because of the transformational quality of Scorpio, because Scorpio is a sign that speaks about death and rebirth and regeneration and, yes, again, transformation, and because it's a South Node eclipse, which is about releasing letting go, and because it's the last of this series of South Node Eclipses in Scorpio, We can expect this to be a fairly dramatic closure. Eclipses are times of endings and beginnings. And this one definitely, again, in many ways, looks like an ending or a closure.
Starting point is 00:01:55 Or again, a transformation or a transmutation. This is an alchemical process. Now, the thing about alchemy is this. We have to have a really sturdy container to alchemize emotions within. So the sturdy container is us, right? So our ability to withstand appropriate discomfort, not the discomfort of danger or fear that is necessary, but the appropriate kind of discomfort, like, ooh, this growth is uncomfortable for me, but it's necessary. Or it's actually good for me, even though it's creating a sensation that I don't like that much.
Starting point is 00:02:39 doing an alchemical process going through something that is an alchemical process requires us to withstand the discomfort, the irritation, and our desire to react to get out of the discomfort. Again, in so much as it is appropriate and necessary for us. So this week's astrology definitely points to our ability to do that, to be the container for the transformation to occur within, to be able to make contact with what is challenging or painful or necessary in order to transmute it, in order to release it from its current state so that it might become something that is transformed into a more valuable state or returned back to its original state. Everything is just energy, right? Every emotion that we have is an energy. And when we allow it to be
Starting point is 00:03:49 expressed, when we allow it to run through us, it can return back to its kind of like natural or original state, which is, again, just energy. But when we withhold things, when we push them away, when we try to grasp onto them, when we try to reject them, that's when things get gnarled and get kind of like misinterpreted or misrepresented. So there's a lot of that like sorting through psychological, emotional, energetic material within during this eclipse season, but especially during this last South Node eclipse in Scorpio. The other thing to note about this eclipse that's really important is that it's happening when the sun is very close to the planet Uranus. And that brings this eclipse a very disruptive, surprising, and unexpected influence and
Starting point is 00:04:50 type of energy. So when we're thinking about release and letting go and endings and possibly like a deep excavation of our feelings and emotions and some kind of cathartic emotional experience, it might also have a very unexpected quality to it or disruptive quality to it or something that manifests as very loud. Uranus is a planet that is loud. It's not subtle. If it's going to make itself known, it's going to be like lightning, cracking in the sky. It is wild. It is definitely a little alarming at times, like to our senses. And again, because eclipses have that type of feeling, like, wait, where did the light go? And then there's this unexpected feeling with Uranus. It looks like a lively eclipse. Yes, we're closing things. Yes, we're ending things. But sometimes that thing that
Starting point is 00:05:55 goes bump in the dark right before the lights come on is really attention grabbing, we could say. So there is that element of surprise that is embedded in this eclipse. And it lasts after the eclipse because the sun and Uranus don't actually make an exact conjunction until next week. So we're feeling this. It's not like it's over with the eclipse. There's a little bit of an arc that happens into next week. And there's this feeling of something being quite electric.
Starting point is 00:06:29 So along with all of the other meanings of this eclipse, there could be that element of a little bit of shock, surprise, being caught off guard a little. And that is what eclipse season can do anyways because it does reveal what we don't normally witness or what we're unconscious to. And so when Uranus is involved, that flash of insight and that flash of awareness can feel quite dramatic. So we'll be feeling that all week, but it's definitely really potent on Friday and probably through the weekend. So, you know, live your life. Do your thing. It's not like we need to stop everything. But I will say this.
Starting point is 00:07:14 On a South Node eclipse, I'll turn it down a notch. I'm not going to try to watch an eclipse. I'm not going to try to go out and do everything on a South Node Eclipse. Again, go live your life. Just know that it's really good to surround eclipse season with a little extra padding, with more internal resources, with more sleep, with more care to the system. Why? Well, in astrology, the sun and the moon are the luminaries, the lights of our sky, obviously,
Starting point is 00:07:47 and in our chart, they symbolize our life force. So when our life force or when the symbol of a life force gets eclipsed, it's thought that it's a good time to kind of lay a little lower, right? To conserve our energy and not overspend it because it's a little unstable. There's a there's a ungroundedness to eclipse season, right? We've got light and it's gone and it comes back again. it's like when the electricity goes off and on. It can kind of like mess with stuff. It can mess with our circuitry. So we want to just be a little extra bolstered and a little extra careful and carrying
Starting point is 00:08:28 to our systems. So we know that that's coming at the end of the week. So we're working towards that all week and we can just take for granted that it'll probably color everything else that is going on during this week. But I do want to go back to Monday and say that there's two things that happen on Monday that are really important. One is the Mercury Kazimi, which means it's a day of absolute clarity and an ability to download a lot of really important information amidst the Mercury retrograde cycle. There's always one good day in the Mercury retrograde cycle. And it is this Monday.
Starting point is 00:09:08 And I'd love for you to make use of it. take note of the good ideas that come, take note of the important conversations that come through, and take note of the moments of clarity that also occur. Also on Monday, Pluto is stationing retrograde. It has gone just a little bit into Aquarius and now it's going to backtrack and it's going to move back into Capricorn. The only other astrology to mention this week is that on Thursday, Venus makes a square to Neptune and then a sex style to Jupiter, which just spells out a day that feels like it's full of the desire to do delightful things. So this is a day where we're going to want better lighting, cuter outfits, better treats, more cuddles, more dates, more
Starting point is 00:10:03 connection, more art, more love. And it's not necessarily a great day for, you know, managing our expectations around love and connection or pleasure. But it is a day that will probably encourage some access. So moderate where and when you need to, but it's a day where we will really be wanting connection and love and affection. So give yourself a lot of it. It's not a great day for, again, restriction or probably not a great day for getting a ton of work done. So, you know, like out of office early, take an extra long lunch, have a leisurely breakfast, take the meetings that are fun, do things that are delightful and you'll be happy. Just don't overdo anything that feels like it leaves you with a residue because we are again moving right into a South Node Eclipse
Starting point is 00:11:02 on Friday. And again, Southern Eclipse is about purging and releasing and letting go. So it's really good to be on the side of the emotional detox, if you will. So drink your water. Hydrate metaphorically and literally. Be in that kind of zone of, again, feeling like, okay, I don't have a ton to release because I've done the work already. I'm not like chalk full of stuff I need to like sort through and get out of my system. So have fun on Thursday, but know that there's something a little extra gnarly on Friday that might be like a deeper exfoliation than you wanted. So again, prepare your systems accordingly. Then on Sunday, Venus moves into cancer.
Starting point is 00:11:55 And here it will bless the part. of our chart that contains cancer and there will be a big emphasis on care and connection in our relationships and building those kind of familial bonds in our relationships. But again, the big deal this week is that last lunar eclipse in Scorpio. It's a full moon. It's an eclipse. It's in Scorpio. It's near the South Node. All of those things together spells out a really deep, maybe even profound, hopefully cathartic, emotional release. Maybe we'll just all have a good cry in the bathroom and be done with it. But it is an eclipse that marks an ending to something.
Starting point is 00:12:41 And when something in our life is ending, it's really important that we show up for that ending. A lot of times endings freak us out and we leave early and we don't. and we don't go through the necessary steps for closure to occur. So in whatever shape or form you need it, give yourself the time and give yourself the process, give yourself the gift of getting the closure that you need, even if it's minute, even if it's like a really small situation,
Starting point is 00:13:17 but especially if it is a significant one, allow yourself the benefit of going through, through the process of closing something with dignity and by giving it respect and by acknowledging whatever feelings are arising. All right, y'all, send you a lot of love and protection and support, bolster your systems, get extra sleep, have a lot of nourishment in your life right now. You're going to be grateful that you gave that to yourself. Check out your reading. on the Chani app if you are a subscriber. We'll talk about exactly where this eclipse is happening for you and what it's meant over the past year, what you've been able to release here, what you've
Starting point is 00:14:06 been able to put out into the world. Sometimes South Node eclipses talk about all the things that we got to put out. Sometimes it's like releasing a lot of information and a lot of our work and talent into the world. And sometimes it's about letting go of the expectations that have to do with where those eclipses were happening in your chart. So check out your reading, see if it resonates, and again, take really good care of yourselves and each other this week. Thank you all so much for leaving a review in the app store. We appreciate you and the time you take to do so. I wanted to share one with you called The Most Helpful App on My Phone. I love this app, and I sing its praises to everyone I know. The free version is great, but it is so absolutely worth the subscription cost.
Starting point is 00:14:55 to get the paid version. So much more valuable than paying for Netflix. I actually do the meditations and rituals this app shares, which is miraculous in and of itself. Chani makes astrology and magic accessible for everyone. I'll see you back here next week for a post-eclapse Roundup and next week's astrology.
