What does it look like for you to be triumphant in a no-win situation?
What would it feel like for you to be victorious in exceedingly challenging conditions?
Welcome to eclipse season times Mars retrograde.
Over the course of the next couple of months, we are going
into a journey that is going to bring us many unknown events.
But one thing's for certain.
Having an idea of what it would actually mean for us to feel internally successful,
what triumph would mean for us on the deepest level,
no matter what happens, is going to be exceptionally helpful.
when it comes to navigating through this complicated terrain.
Hello and welcome.
This is the Astrology of the Week Ahead podcast,
and I'm your host, Chani, Nicholas.
In this podcast, we look at the astrology of the upcoming week
and how it will be landing for all of us collectively.
For a more personalized reading that dives into the ways
that this week's astrology will play out for you,
download the Chani app for iPhone.
This also could be called the astrology of the last part of 2022 and the beginning of 2023 podcast, but we'll keep it short.
So this week we have some very interesting confluence of events, astrologically speaking.
And I've got so much to say about it.
I want to keep it really succinct.
And also I just want you to know there's just volumes of.
thought and information and ideas about both eclipses and Mars retrogrades. The fascinating piece
about this week's initiation into both eclipse season and Mars retrograde is that the eclipse that
happens on Tuesday, October 25th, is in Scorpio. And the traditional ruler of Scorpio is Mars.
and five days later, Mars stations retrograde.
And this eclipse is happening in a part of Scorpio.
Every single degree of Scorpio and every sign has different rulership.
But this eclipse that's happening in Scorpio is extra, extra marsy.
What does that mean?
Well, Mars is the planet of war and battle and triumph.
and being victorious and bloodshed and gruesome things and challenges.
It is a planet that is about conflict and severing.
Now, conflict is just a normal part of life.
It terrifies most of us.
Most of us don't want to deal with it because we don't know when it's going to end
and we don't know how much harm is going to be incurred and we don't know what's going to happen.
And we love to know what's going to happen.
and this world is full of conflict.
So you don't want a podcast to tell you that we're going into a couple of months of the planet of conflict
stationing and moving through the zodiac in a way that's going to bring up all the many iterations of conflict in the world and in our lives.
You don't want to hear that message.
I don't want to give it to you, but I want to frame it because I have to give it to you.
I have to give it to us.
I want to frame it in a way.
I think is really important. What does victory mean? What does triumph mean for you at this point in your life? In this point in history, right? We're like in our lives, but we're also in a larger context. And we've gone through a lot of challenges and we're still in them. So we want to frame this in a way.
way that's going to help us to feel bolstered through this journey. And we can really think a lot
about that classic Joseph Campbell idea of the hero's journey. It's not his idea, but he was the one that
looked at all of the myths around the world that he had access to and was like, wait a minute,
there's a theme here. And the theme is, the hero is called.
or the main character of the story is called into a type of initiation.
The main character is called upon.
And then usually that character refuses the journey or is like really slow to take it up.
And then they go into an initiation on the journey and then they return.
And that is a psychological exercise that all of us go through.
generally we go through it quite often like sometimes daily sometimes yearly depending on what's going on in
our life so it's not a new thing right but because this is about Mars and Mars is the warrior the one who goes
into battle the one who says I got to go my own way and do my own thing which is what that concept is
about right the hero's journey is like they have to depart away from home they have to go
against the grain, leave comfort, leave complacency, leave slumber, and wake up and go out, have a
big experience, meet death, meet all kinds of calamity, and come back to tell the tale. And each of us
has to do that in our own lives again, repeatedly. So if we're in a journey and we're up against
some really challenging contexts and situations and conditions, then we have to be a journey. We have to
to like regulate our expectations of what we do and how we perform quote unquote. I'll put that in
air quotes. So it's not like we are meant to show up the exact same way every single day of our
lives. That's just an impossible standard. It's quite white supremacist in its ideology.
It's what capitalism wants us to adhere to. But it's. It's.
total bogus. It's not healthy. It's not how we promote healthy society and connection.
And when we go into a Mars retrograde, we want to say, okay, look, this is like a two and a half
month journey. And I need to pace myself. Yes, this is a marathon, not a race. That metaphor
definitely applies here. And because Mars retrogrades demand that we look at, our rage, our anger,
our energy, our agency, again, what victory, what success looks like for us, not because the world
tells us that's what we should do, but because that's what makes us feel like our own hero,
heroine, you know, person of victorious nature. That's what this Mars retrograde is about. This
Mars retrograde is taking place in Gemini. And Gemini is, of course, about communication and exchanges.
and the give and take of info and the dispersing of information.
So it definitely feels like an ideological conflict.
Definitely feels like a war of words.
It definitely feels, looks like, seems like, smells like,
and we haven't lived it yet, so I don't know,
but just looking into the future,
it looks like, okay, everybody has all these different ideas
and they're like, well, what about this side?
What about this thing?
You can throw in the devil's advocate thing here if you want to.
that it's really going to be about parsing out the truth.
Then again, what it looks like to be in conversations that are no win.
What do we do in those scenarios?
What do we do in those situations?
So we're moving through this on a collective level.
And you're going to move through it also on a personal level.
And so am I.
And that's all about where this Mars retrograde is taking place for you,
which we talk about extensively in your reading this week and also the reading for 2022.
Mars's retrograde is one of the biggest things to happen in 2022.
It is definitely the part of the year you look at and go, ooh, that looks hard.
It doesn't mean bad, but it does mean challenging.
And we don't have to be excited about it.
We don't have to be like, okay, great, Mars retrograde.
You might be.
You might like them.
I find them hard and that's okay.
And I just know that this corner of the year is like, all right, I'm not going to assume
that things are forward moving in a way where I can get things done so that my ego can be impressed
with me so that I can feel like a champion inside of somebody else's paradigm. It's not what this is
about. This is about succeeding on a deeper level. This is about really knowing and owning what
victory means for me. So that is a long detour, but that is the Mars that is ruling this
eclipse. The eclipse happens on October 25th, Mars stations retrograde on October 30th. But these days leading up to
Mars stationing retrograde might as well be just lumped into its retrograde. They are potent days.
They might be the more potent days of the whole thing. There's differences throughout the entire
retrograde. But as it stations, watching for the themes that are happening now are so important.
because we're going to return to them. And Mars is pulling focus because it's stationing. It's slowing down in the sky. So it's like, hey, I win right now. But so are the eclipses. So is this first eclipse. And also it's ruled by Mars. So we know that there's a lot that is happening in this one kind of vein.
Eclipses are shadowy times and retrogrades are times where things are wobbly and not working in their normal fashion.
Eclipses are times where our light sources, the sun and or moon, this one is a solar eclipse, so it's the sun.
Our light source, our energy source, our indicator of life gets blotted out for a moment.
That feels like an unstable current of energy.
It's also wobbly.
So if you wanted to get one thing from this week's astrology,
it's that things are probably not going to work as normal.
And there's a really good reason here or multiple reasons here to do what you can to get low,
get close to the ground.
This eclipse is happening in Scorpio.
Scorpio is a sign that goes deep.
It goes under the earth.
It is about transformation and metamorphosis and the alchemical work that is necessary for a ultimate psychological, spiritual, personal triumph.
And I say get low to the earth because it's symbolic.
what is happening in many ways. The moon is going to be in Scorpio. This is a new moon. It's a solar eclipse. That's one and the same. The moon in Scorpio has an exceedingly challenging time because Scorpio is a hard place for the moon to be. Scorpio is the sign of the moon's fall. So the opposite sign of Scorpio is Torres. That's where the moon has its exaltation. That's where it's lifted up on high. And it's
and deemed as all powerful, wonderful, can do a lot of really cool things.
The opposite of that is the moon falling off of that exalted place and going down into a
metaphoric kind of gutter.
It is called a depression.
It is a fall.
So what happens when we fall?
We are low to the ground.
Is that bad?
No.
Is it easy?
not for everything, but what it does is it puts us back into the wisdom of the snake.
The snake has its belly on the ground always.
What can the snake do when the belly is on it on the ground?
The snake can catch and know every single vibration that is happening around it.
Therefore, it can know what's up.
And that's what we need to do.
regular power sources, regular operating things are not working regularly this week.
We need to get low to the ground.
We need to be low to the ground of our lives and ourselves and move at a rate where we are able to
pick up on the information that is available to us.
Of course, symbolically, a lot of people connect the snake to Scorpio because of its ability
to shed its skin and transform so we can take this kind of symbolism into this first eclipse with us.
And this getting low to the ground idea, which is something my therapist often says to me
when I am in a state of freneticism is about getting low to the ground and slowing down
and really feeling my way through something and having that belly to earth contact.
you might even feel the need to do that at some point this week, and I would highly recommend it,
just feeling like you're in a full prostration or connection of your most sensitive part,
your belly to the earth and its wisdom and its ability to protect you and ground you,
especially in eclipses, it's good to do grounding things. This eclipse is also a south node eclipse.
The south node is a place of emptying out of release.
of loss of letting go. So again, that metaphor of shedding the skin. And I know it's a metaphor that is
overly used. We say transformational all the time to the point where it's like, what are we actually
talking about? Well, in this case, the moon symbolizes the body in all cases in astrology. The moon is
the body, the physical realm. It's also the material fortune we might have, which would mean having all of our
needs taken care of. And when the moon is near the south node, that is decreased. So we might
feel a sense of heightened vulnerability and a way of being at the whim of the elements in a sense.
So again, when we feel like our safety and security is threatened, which is one of the things
about a Scorpio moon.
I don't mean that in your chart if you have the moon in Scorpio.
There might be like echoes of that.
But I'm really talking about when the moon transfers through,
when it transits through Scorpio,
and especially having an eclipse,
a new moon or a full moon in Scorpio is especially gnarly
because it does shake us in a place
where we want to feel secure
and we want to know what's going to be for dinner
and that everything is in its place.
And so going into this week, there is a sense of that physical or material insecurity.
And again, getting low to the ground, doing what we can to help ourselves stay connected to what we have, what our resources are is essential.
Scorpio is a sign that doesn't try to make things look nice or sound nice.
It doesn't try to placate anyone or anything.
It just goes for the raw, real experience.
And again, that can feel threatening to our sense of security and groundedness.
So through this eclipse, that part of us that's like, oh no, am I okay?
Your job, our job is to parent that part that needs to know, I'm here, you're safe.
We can stay low.
We can nap.
We can rest.
We can take things slow.
we don't have to rush through this feeling or this situation.
It's like when a storm happens and the lights start to flicker in and out and maybe go off for a little while, that's what an eclipse is like.
You don't like try to move really quickly or swing a knife around.
You know, you're like, oh, is the light on or off?
Let's get a candle.
Let's like slowly remember where our safety devices are.
and where our supplies are and set those up so that we're going to be okay through this situation.
The next point I want to make is that Venus is still very much with the sun.
Venus and the sun just made their Kazimi in Libra, a very different tone last week.
And Venus and the sun and the moon are all together, basically at the same place, all hugged at two degrees.
Venus is a little bit away from the sun and moon, but very, very close.
and the south node is a little further away. So this is a partial solar eclipse. So this is a moment
that's also really challenging for Venus. So the moon has what we call its fall or depression in
Scorpio. And Venus is in its detriment or exile in Scorpio. So Venus is in the opposite sign
from the place it has rulership and authority and power. So two planets are struggling in these
signs and they're both a part of the eclipse. The moon, which is about material comfort, our body,
and fortune, and Venus, the planet responsible for pleasure and love and connection and relationship
and art and beauty and joy. So a lack of those two things can feel like a bummer. We'll just call
that what it is. Does that mean it's going to be a bummer or feel like a bummer? Not necessarily,
not at all. For some of us, yes. And
The thing is that this is an eclipse. So it is an event that definitely impacts the world. All astrology does, but these big moments and the Mars retrograde, these are big moments. And they might not land personally. They might land more archetypally in our global or collective sphere. So don't feel like this is like attacking you, right? We want to be cognizant of how this lands everywhere.
if there is a lack of physical comfort or safety, if there is a lack of or if it's a struggle to
get to feeling at ease and relaxed and feeling connected and feeling like we have a lot of love in our
lives, then how we prep for this, how we like be good Girl Scouts for this and like prepare.
We have a lot of stuff in our backpack, right?
like we have our security blankets.
We have our phone call that we can make.
We have our mementos and reminders and amulets.
And that's why I spoke so much last week about using last week's astrology as a protective
amulet by way of making sure the people that you love in your life know you love them.
By strengthening relationships, which is something you can still do now, obviously.
but remembering how you are protected by love and how you are protected by the love you have given,
how you are protected by your own generosity and by the generosity that has been extended to you.
That's what we want in our backpack.
And we want the reminder to go slow when necessary,
to not think that we need to succeed at all costs or,
succeed as if conditions were regular. These are different conditions. So we're going to have
different expectations for ourselves. And if at all possible, we take a nap or we turn out the lights
early on Tuesday during the eclipse. We just like go with the flow and like, oh, the sun's having a
hard time. It's light is flickering off and on. So I'm not going to try to be at full wattage either.
I'm going to let myself flicker off and on too.
I'm not going to try to get everything done.
I'm not going to be on somebody else's clock.
To the best of my ability and within whatever agency I have,
I know that that's not the reality for a lot of different aspects of our life,
but for whatever degree it is,
I want you to keep being like, today this is my best, if it is.
If it's like I'm doing my best and I'm still not getting anywhere,
do it forget all that this is my best for today and I'm just going to let the rest rest I am going to
let myself rest when I need to this is the second of three eclipses that are going to be happening
in Scorpio the first one was on May 16th of 2022 think back to May go back to your diaries what was
happening mid-May for you then this one is happening on October 25th 2020
The last eclipse in Scorpio will be on May 5th of 2023.
So the story is not new, nor is it finished.
This is the midpoint.
So we might think of this part of the story.
If we're going to use hero heroine's triumphant ones journey as a metaphor,
this would be the part of the metaphor, the story where we would get initiated.
So see what you're getting initiated into.
All right. Again, we're going to go in depth into what this eclipse means for you in the readings this week on the Chani app in the weekly tab.
I want to run through the rest of those weeks astrology.
Not that anything is as important as these two events, but just to get a chronological order.
Okay. On Tuesday, the 25th, we have that solar eclipse in Scorpio.
It is occurring at 3.49 a.m.
So the world over, it is occurring on the 25th of October.
If that falls in a time zone for you, 3.49 a.m. Pacific time, excuse me.
If you're sleeping, then good, stay sleeping.
That's a great thing to do for this eclipse.
Watch your dreams.
Then the next thing to happen is that on the 26th, Mercury makes a trine to Mars,
picks up on some of those almost Mars retrograde themes.
These are victorious conversations or conversations that can help to spur some of your courage.
And then on the 27th, Mercury quickly makes a square to Pluto.
Those are more challenging conversations that get to the heart of the matter about a power issue or differential.
However, one bright, bright spot in this week, sorry I saved it to the very end, is that Jupiter is retrogating back into Pisces, offering us some kind of
kind of protection. And the good thing is, is that Jupiter will be in what we call a superior
square to Mars as it retrogrades through Gemini, at least for this first part. And so that is good.
This acts like a kind of fairy godmother can grant us a wish in the moments of our, you know,
challenge and meeting of the beast or the Gorgon or the monster. It's like, oh yeah, I remember.
I have this thing in my pocket and it can give me this little special skill and it's just enough
to get out of the way of danger. Said another way, generosity and goodwill and having some kind of
faith in the goodness of self and other or some kind of guiding light in terms of your faith in the
process of your life will be your saving grace or will act like a protective
force field around you. Be generous, kind, and keep your awareness on the big picture. That's what
Jupiter and Pisces can really help us to do, have compassion for ourselves and other people.
Jupiter will be in Pisces giving us this protection until December 20th. Then on Saturday,
the 29th, Mercury moves into Scorpio, which is where we just had the eclipse. So we are still talking
about what happened here. We're still in eclipse territory. We are for the next couple of weeks
anyways, but another planet, Mercury, the megaphone microphone, putting its little device up to
what just happened is very significant. Mercury will be on the eclipse point exactly on like
the 30th, 31st. So basically all weekend, we're returning back to what the eclipse brought up for us.
So the whole week's theme just keeps kind of circling around, reminding us of the emphasis of what's going on right now.
Again, stay low to the ground.
Be in that place of physical awareness.
What does your body need?
How can you nourish it?
How can you build up strength from the inside out than Mars stations?
Retrograde on the 30th at 25 degrees of Gemini.
If you have something, any planet or point at 25 degrees of Gemini, especially, Virgo,
Sagittarius or Pisces, you're going to feel this station very precisely.
Another thing that Mars talks about is our ability to lead, our ability to cut our own path
and to move in a way that is very self-directed.
So that's also one of these themes.
Mars will be retrograde until January 12th of 2020.
and it'll retrograde all the way back to eight degrees of Gemini.
So if you have any planets in between those degrees in any of those signs I just mentioned,
this will be a big retrograde for you.
If you're like, I have no idea if I have planets in those signs at those degrees,
go to the Chani app, go under transits, and look at short-term transits
and see if Mars is doing anything to any point or planet in your chart.
Okay, y'all, that is the reading.
it was a long one. This was a long podcast. Thanks for hanging in there with me for anybody who actually
did. This is a congested kind of moment, astrologically speaking, meaning that there's just these
two really big things happening at once that are connected. And it's going to take us a while to
figure out what it's all meant. And again, my main prescription for the week is to go slow,
to get low and to move at the rate at which you are reminded the places in your life that you are
actually safe, the people, the sleep patterns, the foods, the nourishment that keep you feeling
secure and good in your body to whatever degree remembering that your needs this week
might be different than every other week surrounding it. And you're going to take it as
It comes just one moment at time.
As always, we love and appreciate the reviews that you leave us in the app store.
I want to share one with you now.
This is from Suksi.
Wow, and thank you.
This is my second week actively working with the app,
and it has been like a salve on my brain and anxiety.
I look forward to the insights.
I love how personal they feel,
and I'm grateful for the care and depth of the content.
And the pictures and setup make it fun and intuitive to use.
Thanks.
Sending you lots of love, all the protection,
all of the sweetness and all the strength.
Bye for now.
