Astrology of the Week Ahead with Chani Nicholas - The Week of September 5th, 2022: Mercury retrograde and the Full Moon in Pisces
Episode Date: September 5, 2022In this podcast, New York Times bestselling author and astrologer Chani Nicholas discusses the astrology of the week and what it might mean for us all. The astrology of the week of September 5th, 2022..., is all about going with the flow. In fact, there’s no other option. With Mercury stationing retrograde and a Full Moon in Pisces occurring within eight hours of each other, this week brings a lot of feelings and obstacles. If we spend our time trying to push things forward that are clearly moving backward, thanks to Mercury, we’re going to waste all of our precious energy. But if we surrender to the process, we can use this time to think in a different way. The same goes for the Full Moon in Pisces. Because this lunation is conjunct Neptune — the deity of the oceans — it’s dreamy and sensitizing, but also a little wobbly. In order to make the most of it, we’ll need to ride the waves instead of trying to swim against the tides. You know that saying that goes, if you want to make God laugh, tell her your plans?
Well, I'm pretty sure that she's going to have a good deep belly laugh at our expense this week.
Hello and welcome.
This is the Astrology of the Week Ahead podcast, and I'm your host, Channy Nicholas.
In this podcast, we look at the astrology of the upcoming week and how it will be landing for all of us collectively.
For a more personalized reading that dives into the ways that this week's astrology will play out for you,
download the Chani app for iPhone.
In this episode, we are looking at the astrology for the week of September 5th.
Within eight hours of each other, we have both Mercury Stationing Retrograde and a full moon in Pisces.
Mercury stations retrograde at 8.38 p.m. Pacific time on September 9th. And the full moon blooms at 259 a.m. Pacific time on Saturday, September 10th.
One of these things alone is enough to be like, oh, well, we'll see what happens. But both things happening at the same time is a major signal from the universe to us to just,
throw up our hands a little early and be like, I have no control over what the rest of the world
does or does not do. Therefore, I am not going to waste my time, energy, and talent trying to control
everything that is clearly out of my domain and none of my business. I'm going to make plans,
but I'm also going to note that they may or may not happen. I'm going to think about how I'd like
things to roll out, but I'm also going to make sure that I don't expect them to. Obviously, this is
excellent advice for any time of the day at any point in our life for every single person on the
planet. I'm just saying that it is especially good advice this week. And it's not just because
it's a full moon in Mercury retrograde, which again, would be enough. One of them would be enough.
Both of them are enough. But this full moon in Pisces is sitting with
Neptune. And Neptune is the great dissolver. So it's an excellent moment to go with the flow. In fact,
that's the only thing to do with this full moon. And that's really the only thing to do with a Mercury
retrograde as well. With Mercury Retrograde, we want to take note about what the planet is
referring to when it says, this thing doesn't work. Nope, you cannot pass go. You've got to go back.
You've got to figure this out. You've got to review it. And if we spend all of our time,
and energy trying to push things forward that are clearly needing to go backward for a moment,
we're going to waste all of our precious energy and time, which is just not a good idea.
So we want to go with the process.
We want to be like, okay, it doesn't work.
Let's figure out why.
And I know in the process, I'll find a better way forward eventually.
And the full moon being conjunct Neptune has a tendency to turn everything into mush,
or take solids and turn them into liquids and take liquids and turn them into vapors.
And it is like the pounding ocean against a massive boulder.
It will eventually wear it down.
So being open and willing to be less goal-oriented and less focused on trying to get somewhere,
at least this weekend will be incredibly helpful. It's much like surfing, right? We can use all the
water metaphors we want with a full moon and Pisces conjunct Neptune, the deity of the oceans.
We want to be one with the waves. We want to go literally with the ebbs and the flows. We want to
figure out where the current is and let ourselves benefit from it instead of trying to swim
against the tide. So we're going to feel these two influences all week, even though they happen this
weekend. As the full moon builds, we'll be feeling it. And we all know, and I say this every
month, but full moons tend to give us a kind of peak experience, which can feel a little
chaotic in the body and can feel a little overwhelming in our lives and maybe can feel like a
peak amazing moment of transcendence, especially this one. This full moon in Pisces is super dreamy
and is very sensitizing. So we might be open to new ways of thinking and knowing and to experiences
that remind us of how connected we are.
That's the beauty of Pisces.
Pisces is able to move in every direction all at once, be nowhere and everywhere at the same
time.
So having those kinds of experiences can be really healing for us and remind us what is important.
It's not the stuff we have.
It's not the ways in which we can look like we're separate.
or better than other people that make us happy. In fact, we could argue that that makes us so
incredibly miserable. Anything that emphasizes separation makes us just riddled with anxiety and fear
and greed. But the things that bring us a sense of connection help us to calm down
and feel joy and peace and happiness.
So while a sense of disbursement and overwhelm can cause anxiety,
and definitely that's what full moons especially,
this full moon can do,
if we can hold some of that for ourselves,
we can also move towards an experience of greater oneness and connection.
And Mercury Retrograde always reminds us to think
in a different way. We can't go forward. We can't barrel headfirst into some new idea. It's a time to be like,
wait, stop, let's take stock. How do we get here? Where are we going? All of that. But it does encourage
us to think about problems from a very different perspective because it stops us and it asks us to do just that.
So these two events happening at the very end of the week are encouraging us to be with our lives
in a position of surrender and maybe even acceptance.
And then the question is from that position, how does your life look?
Also, humor never hurts the situation.
So ample doses of that are always really good, especially we can laugh at ourselves
for wanting things to always go the way we think they should go.
Okay.
The other thing that's happening this week is on Monday, Venus moves in to Virgo,
which is generally like part of the cleanup crew of Virgo season.
Venus doesn't do very well in Virgo in the traditional sense,
which means Venus is all about pleasure and union and play and,
and feeling into the good vibes.
And Virgo's like, that's cute, but there's work to do.
There's grain to sort.
There's floors to sweep.
There are spells to cast and concoctions to conjure.
So Venus and Virgo can be famous for feeling like, oh yeah, I'll get to the good time after I get my work done.
Or I'll enjoy all of this when it's perfectly in order.
Or I'd rather work than go and play.
Because sometimes that's more pleasurable for Venus and Virgo.
Or conversely, I also do know a lot of people with Venus and Virgo that are able to see pleasure as a main focus for their work.
That usually takes some healing.
But I have seen people get there and it's really gorgeous and beautiful and a testament to the sorcery of this placement.
I feel like Venus and Virgo is an incredible witch because she tends to the details of creating beauty and art and pleasurable situations.
And that's witchcraft if you ask me.
However, Venus is in Mercury's domain and Mercury is stationing retrograde.
So it feels like a time where Venus-type things, art, beauty, love, might feel.
a little harder to come by for some of us, but in all honesty, it will be about doing pleasure
differently and understanding the value. And this is what Venus and Virgo is essentially all about.
It is about understanding the value of beauty that is non-normative. It is about the beauty that
exists on the margins. It is about the people and the places where beauty exists that is not
centered or noticed or addressed or even considered by the masses. And we all know that that is where
the cutest things exist, the most avant-garde, the most beautiful, and generally the things that
come into fashion eventually. So we could say that Venus and Virgo is leading edge. It's just that
it's demoted first. It's rejected first. And then eventually, usually culture comes around. It's like,
oh my God, how amazing. Look at this beautiful thing that was rejected for decades, if not
centuries. So go check your chart on the Chani app and see if you have Venus in Virgo. If you do
have Venus and Virgo, this is your Venus return, which happens roughly once a year. And it is a
return, just like a solo return is your birthday. This is like your Venus rebirth. And this moment will
teach you a lot about how your Venus and Virgo functions. So again, it's a good time to re-familiarize
yourself with your own placement. Where is it? What houses it in? And what other planets is it talking to?
And what is this moment teaching you about appreciating it?
The thing about Venus is that it can only ever be two signs away from your son.
So people with a cancer sun can have a Venus and Virgo.
People with a Leo son, a Virgo son, a Libra sun or a Scorpio sun can have Venus and Virgo.
but no other sun sign can, which is funny because if you're a traditional astrologer,
you'd be like, why do you want Venus and Virgo?
But I do think that planets in their fall, which is what Venus and Virgo is, and planets in
their detriment are really interesting.
And yes, I have a lot of those placements, so I'm totally biased.
But trust me when I say that I'm also very envious of exalted planets and the confidence
that they can bring.
because planets in their fall make you work extra hard.
All right.
That is my little lesson on that.
For more information on planets in their fall and detriment,
follow us on Instagram, chani.
Or on Twitter at app channy.
Or to follow me directly and not the app,
it's at Channy Nicholas on all the platforms.
And we'll be talking about all of these different
setups and the ways in which you can work with them. Planets in their fall, just for those people who are
interested, are the sun in Libra, the moon in Scorpio, Mercury in Pisces, it's also its detriment,
Venus in Virgo, Mars in Cancer, Jupiter in Capricorn, and Saturn in Ares. If you have one of these
placements, check out what we've written for them in the Chaniap. And who knows? You might even learn
to love them. Okay, y'all, well, that little lesson was definitely brought to you by Venus and Virgo,
who loves to geek out and share information and knowledge. So there you go. Before we go,
I just wanted to say thank you once again for leaving reviews in the app store. I wanted to
share one with you that I read recently that really just made my heart swell. It's called Feeling Full
and Light. Thankful to whoever.
shared a Chani post on social media and led me to Chani's page, then to the app.
That moment in my life, I didn't need another app, another astrological or tarot-related
reading source, but also in that moment, I truly found the only one I need.
The personal readings hit the nail on the head so often for me.
I sometimes giggle when I listen back midweek.
Most meditations lose me, but the Chani app meditations hug and hold me for the duration.
Thankful for all you and your team's insight, support, and encouragement to traverse each week with some reassurance that some things are just in the hands of the universe.
Much love, Autumn.
All right, Jill, that is the reading for the week.
May we learn how to relax into whatever.
is happening so that we can be open to whatever it is we're supposed to learn. And if that's what
comes from this week, for me at least, I'll be really happy. Take good care of yourselves and each other.
Bye for now.
