Thank you. I'm sorry what? Thank you so much. I wasn't talking. I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about, of course, the incomparable Broden Kelly. It's so much pleasure to be here and to be with the boys huge fan of the podcast. Absolutely. Thank you so much. Now Broden, we had to talk about comedy. Yeah. What makes you tea? Apart from these great MVMT watches, which will soon be sponsoring the podcast, is that how you pronounce the name of them? No, it's the... The latter. No, it's absolute pleasure to be here. I guess I got my I was always never the funny kid in class. I was always a bit of a naughty kid who struggled to focus and then got into the productions at school and
Starting point is 00:01:31 I thought, gee I like this. And that and the rest is history. Sorry sorry sorry. Excuse me, what was that? Sorry, we're just trying to do a podcast here. We're trying to, yeah, if you should, and keep down the coughing and the sneezing or whatever that you want. Why am I here? That is a great question to kick off the introduction
Starting point is 00:01:56 to our guest this evening, which is of course, and Edmunds. And Edmunds. A good friend of ours. What percentage? And because I'm a math man, what percentage of Edmunds was real there? None, zero percent.
Starting point is 00:02:14 I'm well aware of your first and last name. Oh, thank you. That's OK. You're very welcome. I study very hard for this. And it's a first and last name that's really buzzing around the Australian comedy set that the public really is, is it? I mean you can't walk into a shop without someone talking about how Anne Edmunds offended
Starting point is 00:02:34 them at a shop. And tell us a little bit about yourself. Well, I started comedy nine years ago. Boring. I was even a cop. You didn't even try to cover that. You just get bored out of boring fucking. You're ugly. We're doing this in almost a breakfast podcast. Yeah, no, and Mark keeps saying, it's really off-putting when someone's in broad daylight like, I mean, good evening. Have you got something wrong with your brain? Yeah, sorry, I don't know why I do that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:13 Like, why do you think it's the guy? Because people listen to it when they're with a glass of wine. This is a very sophisticated podcast. People listen to it over dinner with their loved ones, having a glass of wine. So I'm just, you know, sort of, we're not recording it in the evening, but I imagine that's when most cunts will be listening to it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:31 The first of my podcast on the train in the morning. Well, good evening to you, girls. Singing on the morning. It's morning train to work. I'm a vicious alcoholic, I always say. It's evening somewhere. So that's why I drink in the morning. But the reason I brought up the breakfast, the reason I brought
Starting point is 00:03:50 breakfast, you made a, we're in it in Scotland. And you can cut out that pool there. Just the kids. Yeah, there's like pace. Yeah, no, no worries. And what I noticed, is that you guys are having some Vegemite toast. And we're a couple of Aussies on the other side of the planet.
Starting point is 00:04:11 Boy aren't we having fun? Well aren't we connecting? Yeah. Did you, where did the Vegemite come from? So I didn't, can you come by? I manage a, can you buy a mic? Can you buy any sort of mic? Oh that, yeah you can buy.
Starting point is 00:04:24 You can buy the Dr. Latness of a mic. It's white. No, it's not. It's sweet. It's sweet and it's soft. Sweet, yeah. White might is a pretty great selling point for a new type of mic though. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:38 If you don't like white might and just color it white, I'm going to fucking get on that. If anyone out there wants to make some white might, send it to us. Send it to us. Send it to us send it to you. Jaron will eat it without any questions Have you ever had pro-might end? I have I've had all that every my you're a fan of pro-might See because I am pro-might man over veggie might really oh yeah, oh yeah You know, it's just what I grew up on on my I'm a Oh yeah, you're fine. Oh yeah, you're fine.
Starting point is 00:05:02 No, it's just what I grew up on. I'm a Italian and I'm the thing with it. Just have a slightly different taste. Hey, Marka, ita rappro, mate. Oh no, it's not. It's not, it's not. It's not, it's not. It's not.
Starting point is 00:05:15 It's not. It's not. It's not. It's not. It's not. It's not. It's not. It's not.
Starting point is 00:05:23 It's not. It's not. It's not. It's not. It's not. It's not. Hello! Hello! No, no, no, no, how have you been coping with the death of your husband? Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh home and I go, no, it's only for me, just the one. I thought she lived on 45th and 5th. No, it's a land-right. In a lot of ways Mark, you know, Wereby, if I were to compare, you know, I think Sydney is like the LA of Australia. Melbourne is like the Portland.
Starting point is 00:12:20 What I always like to say is Wereby. Yeah, and where it be I would say is definitely the New York I always say Melbourne is the greatest city in the world And that's I'm I'm sorry. I'm Lord Mayor Robert Doyle. Yes Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, same crowd the next year and you add on a meditale their friends and they tell their friends just like Melbourne your friends come to Melbourne they have a
Starting point is 00:13:47 latte in a degree of strength Melbourne also has an incredible festival culture doesn't it? Absolutely we have the jazz festival and why don't you head on down to Mumbai which means in Aboriginal for the local people are the wereundry people it means come party with us. Does it really? It's something like that. It seems insulting. I've got a question for you Robert Thor. I'm the icing tough question. I'm not letting you just do the pledge I'm like tough question for you to open the door. Oh, just the dark lens. Sorry just quickly before you go on just the doc lens are an Area of Melbourne without a soul without a soul. Without a soul, it's very interesting. I think it's a thriving community. It's sort of like the Darling Harbor of Melbourne. They looked at Darling Harbor.
Starting point is 00:14:27 Darling Harbor had happened. They could have learned from the mistakes and then they decided to make. So now we've welcomed in one more city to be included in this. I'm done with explaining these kind of things. If you want to know what the fucking doc lens are. Just Google it.
Starting point is 00:14:41 Yeah, Google it. I just think Google you can't. I mean, just give it a shot. So if I can just ask you one more tough question, right, you go to the big train, you go make it's big train, you go make it, what do you think of that? I think it's a great question.
Starting point is 00:14:53 I think the greatest city in the world makes the greatest public transport system in the world. And you go to the New Yorks, the Parisians, the Melbourne. You're gonna get around quick. And I think we get around quick. I've heard Lord Robert Mayor Doyle Robert Diole. So one quick question yes why does Tom think it's okay now just leave and start doing shit yeah like Tom just got up got a bottle of water hang got a vanilla coke and he
Starting point is 00:15:17 also has a coffee that is still going on in the middle I finished the coffee right in the middle of the what if something had happened what if the sound just exploded what if I had have died what if I had died yeah but what if her sound had have died yeah or my comedy yeah yeah that will never happen any more professional I know I think I think I'll say you would have something great commonly for you to know crab lab, crab lab, spleen, yep. Of course, Thursday night comedy at the, at the way Carl Chan, or whatever his room's called. European beer, I'm not loving that.
Starting point is 00:15:56 What are you doing there? Um, Friday is the best day to go to the Victorian market. Mmm, you're making some homemade. Where you get in there, you get in fresh fish? You have a krenskie sausage? You're getting fresh fish in the month? You have a krenskie sausage. You're getting in the month.
Starting point is 00:16:22 You're getting a whole fish if you want. You can get a fillet, but you can get a whole fish. I know I know don't be aggressive. I'm just saying if you want to make a stock if you want to have a love of fill it. Yeah, that you want to make a stock you just have the one one whole first fish. So making it right close to me making eye contact. Well, and I I think very attractive. I know. I care about you, Dave. Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no going to get salmon, you're going to get a hot pukofish, you're going to be go with cod. Flake is shark. Flake is shark. And that's what people love.
Starting point is 00:17:13 You're going to get yourself this scampy. Yeah. And I won't know if you're getting a little bit torn apart. Cut. Um, yeah. Pory, the marivano out into the... Yeah, yeah, the horizon. Right before. High point out there.
Starting point is 00:17:27 Get some barra Monday. Yeah, flow out through to the Yara, I guess. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, and out into the ocean. Yeah. Um, guys, I think that I, I just gotta say that Robert Doyle has been, has been in this podcast for quite a while. He has been unchallenged. Is Robert Doyle, he has been unchallenged? Starting point is 00:20:54 Yeah top floor of my I tell you get some great savings up there I forget a t-shirt and maybe some pants. Maybe electronics. Yeah, it's a milled and I tell you, Birk Street, more the live expralfall, we can see some great things. No baskets.
Starting point is 00:21:17 And? Have you done any weird gigs at Edinburgh yet, like outside of your own show? No, not yet. You haven't done anything fucked up? I will, yeah. Oh, but please tell us about something fucked up. On Friday night, I just went, it got drunk till like 5am. Went early, I went early, never too much.
Starting point is 00:21:42 Yeah. And then I was crook as a dog. Zach and I realized last night we were like, we forgot how easy it is to beat out until 40 a morning in this fucking city. Yeah, it's too bright. It's ridiculous. Yeah, the sun never goes down. Yeah, we got booed the other night.
Starting point is 00:21:58 No, all right. That was pretty fun. We're both wild. Peter Harvey was there. We were doing. Robert Doy Harvey was there We were doing Robert Doyle's there. We were doing a sketch I've been out to do wait a second Robert I've I didn't realize Robert Doyle did the show with us the other night I've been I've been with you guys since world's greatest show base. That's right. I forgot. Could I put my hands up right now?
Starting point is 00:22:26 Brody'd before. You don't, don't. What? What? I was, I was, we were doing it. Everybody looked at me. Okay, keep going through that. I'll never do that.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Keep going through that. I was like, okay, Proudin. We had a solitary man, Buwis, at like live, it was one man, there's a whole audience, we're doing like a Mime sketch, and we're doing the Mime sketch. Master's a chef for those that are familiar with it. A Mime sketch for those that aren't.
Starting point is 00:23:00 And I clicked on to him before he started building. I could see that he was a computer. Because he was an icon on a computer. It clicked on to the icon. And he was looking at it. And he was just really drunk. He was like this man in his 30s who's not enjoying. He's like, how can I convey to these people that I don't get what they're doing? As like a really loud music playing. And this is the last sketch, you know get what they're doing. And there's like a really loud music playing and this is the last sketch, you know what, 12 minutes.
Starting point is 00:23:27 Yeah, yeah. And he was just, I don't know how to convey to them that I don't inch up. I know. But he's just like, you can see the clock. Yeah. Boom! There really, it was that long.
Starting point is 00:23:39 It was really loud. Loud and powerful. And then we didn't engage because the music was loud enough. We just didn't engage. And he's like, oh no, that didn't engage because the music was loud enough, we just didn't engage. And he's like, oh no, that didn't engage. And he's like, what can I do? I know, I'll pull again. I guess. Boom!
Starting point is 00:23:55 And then he was just a bit sad because we didn't respond. I'm just so glad I didn't catch on because booing is like wildfire. Yeah, I just go. Because once someone booze, if the whole crowd goes oh yeah I'm not enjoying this either then everyone just starts fucking booing like it's the 1940s at a Vordville show. You can't, well what can you, how do you respond to boo anyway? Well we- No there is no response. No, or like cut it out. It's the strongest head. Boo, boo, boo back. Yeah, boo, boo, cut it out. It's the strongest head. It's the strongest head. Boop, boop, boop back.
Starting point is 00:24:25 Yeah, boop probably heaps. Been booed in bed. I've never been booed in bed on the stud. Just saying. Or sweet before they come for you mate. I Don't know if you could hear but there were um alarms. You could hear those thoughts The sound of me waking up every fucking morning. You live near a hospital. I know. It's terrible Well, you're the man I'm not telling you what that
Starting point is 00:25:22 I know I did that in a moment. I mean, I'm in the room in the mind thing. When you're the hospital, literally the name of this hospital is the hospital for sick children. Not children's hospital, not family hospital. It's hospital for sick children. And every time I hear the ambulance come by in the morning, I think fucking at what pack comes to wake and break it. But that's they're rushing sick children.
Starting point is 00:25:52 Yes, but to the hospital. I've got a show to do tonight. Right. You stink, man. This really doesn't reflect well. You've got a bad personality. You're going to, I feel you're approval rating dropping down.
Starting point is 00:26:08 Oh, very good. Well, I am rubber, and you are glue. Whatever you say to me, barrens is off me and sticks to you. Oh. You fucking cunch. Oh, he's dead, Robert Doyle. He's dead, he's dead. Couldn Doyle. He's dead, he is. Couldn't you get your bill passed?
Starting point is 00:26:28 Yeah, alright, I'm off. Hi. I'm going to get a flight back to Melbourne. Are you having an important work to do? I've got a file. Yeah. It's been real, right? Bye.
Starting point is 00:26:40 See you. See you, Robert. That's been fun. I've had so much fun on this. Was it over? I don't know. No. Not by a long shot.
Starting point is 00:26:51 Anne, tell me. What's your favorite type of veggie white toast? Just white straight up. What you just got me. Was I? Did I under cook it? I always worked. I like it under cooked toast and I probably wouldn't have spread it as like I loved what I Feel like you don't cook toast
Starting point is 00:27:13 What you do feel like you toast bread, but you cook it like to toasting is an act of cooking I don't think if you put it in the toast. I wouldn't refer to this cooking. I wouldn't I wouldn't say you cooked in a meal But I would say the toast was cooked. It's cooked. You cooked the toast. Cooking is the application of heat. You two are the only cooks in the room that are cooked. Thinking that you're cooking bread.
Starting point is 00:27:35 Oh. Oh, who's that? I'm sorry. You bake bread. Jesus. You toast bread. It's cooked mate. It's the, it's heat.
Starting point is 00:27:44 Yeah, like you No, so when I go into us so when I go into a Tannings salon and my cooking myself in a way, but it's more about food You bake your toast your boil your broil your grill all of these things are cooking. It's under the arm If I can step in for a moment. Oh, he's back. Oh, no. Oh, thank God. Over again. Yeah, I cooked toast. Oh, I feel like I need to refer to Jamie Oliver.
Starting point is 00:28:15 Yeah. The wheels here, luckily. Uh, so I'll just put him on the phone. Oh, Jamie, Jamie Oliver. No, that's good to have him on. I totally forgot that he hasn't had anything. Jamie Oliver. What? Jamie. Oh, I love. Jamie Oliver. Yeah. I know you've just been thrown into this improv. Yeah, I was a little reddit. You were on reddit. Okay. You were on reddit. Were you looking at your own subreddit? Do you have a subreddit?
Starting point is 00:28:46 I don't know. Look it up. We were wondering, do you cook bread into toast or do you toast bread and then it becomes toast? What I would like to say is, does it really matter? Um, yes. For the sake of filling the last four minutes of this podcast, absolutely. I have some genuine questions about Veggie My Toast, so we only need to fill two minutes
Starting point is 00:29:14 and then it's back to Anne on the Veggie My Toast front. I wish I had you cooked toast yet, definitely. No. What are you define cooking as? What is cooking as opposed to... I'm just saying that the act of putting a piece of bread in a toaster. Well, I would say you wouldn't you didn't cook anna meal. No, I didn't cook a meal. No, but you put some bread by toasting it. No, I disagree.
Starting point is 00:29:36 That's it's under the cooking umbrella. It's under the cooking umbrella. Yeah. But I wouldn't I wouldn't say, but the cooking umbrella is there. That's the big umbrella and then toast it. I wouldn't say it's cooking. When did you first, like, when was the first time in your life you realised your parents hated you? It was pretty early on actually. They would yell at each other a lot in my house. It was not a great one. It was the one when we had not had Mark. Well my parents never loved each other, you see.
Starting point is 00:30:06 No, okay. Well, my mum never loved my dad anyway. Oh, okay. He doesn't love that. He doesn't love that. He doesn't love that. He doesn't love that. Mum told me when I was 16.
Starting point is 00:30:13 Oh, really? Yeah. I don't love your father. She said, I've never loved your father. I've never really liked him like a brother. Wow. Which made me go, then what am I doing here? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:21 What's the point of it? Yeah. What's the point of it? Yeah. So you would have done less veggie might. I just wouldn't have, you really spread, it was thin but it was covered. Where was I going? Do you know what I did that for myself? Yeah. This is what's so rough is I did that for myself but I think I tried too hard to think what
Starting point is 00:30:43 would end like, well, I cooked her this delicious meal. You could have asked. Yeah. I did. I asked a lot of questions, and I thought I was getting a bit weird. I was asking too many questions for Veggie My Toast. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:55 I'd already asked about the level of toast. I was like, I think I've just got to commit to the amount of Veggie My Toast. Yeah, it was a bit much for me. Yeah, no, I, I, as I did it, I was like, this is too much. Yeah, thank you. No, thank you. I think they got me on to Veggie Might as putting a little bit of cheeky avocado on the top. Ah, look.
Starting point is 00:31:10 Yeah, put a bit of cheeky avocado on the top. On the top of it. Yeah, so you got your bread, you got your buddy, you got your Veggie Might, you got your avocado. Oh, man, we're talking. And that, that actually, Trump's, Trump's pro might for me. Right.
Starting point is 00:31:23 I'm just going to get Broden to read number one on this definition. me. Right. I'm just gonna get Broden to read number one on this definition. Okay. Cook. Pronounced cook. Okay. Verb. Cook.
Starting point is 00:31:33 Cook. Third person present, cooks. Cooks. Past tense, cook. Oh, cooked. Past particle, cooked. Cooked. Garund or present particle, cooking.
Starting point is 00:31:44 So thought you'd skip this bit, MacGar. Number one, prepare. Prepare. Open bracket. Food. A dish. Or a meal. A dish.

Starting point is 00:33:09 I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding.
Starting point is 00:33:17 I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. You know, I just had a locked in hey and tell me tell me about your show tell me about it
Starting point is 00:33:26 I'm like a show God's the show is over Oh the show's over no no what plug your show you doing the whole you don't hold my Run and it'll run yep. I'm on it. Have you realized that's a mistake? Yeah, yeah, that's the quickest way to get the runs. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa underbelly. Well down the belly I'll grow we can see that. And it's a wonderful exploration of modern relationships and sunshine and the movement from the winter to spring through classical music and I've I'm enjoying it and the audience is coming along on the ride. And I'm John Fane and can I ask how long have you been working in this field? I mean look I after university I'd done a philosophy degree and I wasn't
Starting point is 00:34:40 happy with that I knew that music and theatre and the combination of those two things was for me and that's when I started exploring that notion through a series of performances and recitals based around Melbourne and Tasmania. Do you use comedy as a tool in the work? Um, yeah, I mean comedy I loosely use, it is a comedy show as such but it's more in um, faces and um, movements between... Exactly. It's fun you say that comedy is a tool, maybe it's like you're in a hardware store and you're building a fence.
Starting point is 00:35:22 Yeah. And comedy is the hammer. Sure, yeah, And I mean there's hammers, there's drills and there's also planks of wood that you can just buy from the back. And is that a tool? That's a tool. Sure. You know, and I would call that artistic preference. Isn't that fascinating? Yeah. The way comedy can be compared to hardware supplies. Yeah, absolutely. I mean I think there's comparisons to be made around a range of outlets like um, um, all-mart tires. Right. Like came up, the
Starting point is 00:36:01 tire section of K-Mart. So what's the comedy in that? Yeah, what's the comedy in that? It's the driving in of a car and the assessment of the car, balancing the car, treading the tires. The tires and thinking, I need a new set. And what does that mean going forward? Sometimes, I think I want someone to peg me. Hmm. What and in what regard? Like what? I want someone to peg me. To a lot, a close line or more of it.
Starting point is 00:36:35 No, no, no, no, I think you mean when someone gets sort of something phallic shaped. Oh, okay, yeah. Put it in the arsehole. In your arsehole. And so that's more of a literary sort of discussion, rather than an actual... No, no, no, I want, if you are listening, come peg me. Okay. So when you say that, you mean like you're doing a show and you want the audience to come and challenge you on the content, rather than just sit there as a passive receiver of what you're doing a show and you want the audience to come and challenge you on the content
Starting point is 00:37:05 rather than just sit there as a passive receiver of what you're saying. Yes, and yes to any other way that people want to read it, including take coming to my house, strapping on and having a go. Okay. Yeah, and so that probably, I mean, in musical terms, that would be like the putting out of a new song. And then the listening to it of by an audience, and then the feedback, I guess.
Starting point is 00:37:38 Is that what you're getting at? Or do you use an old metaphor, perhaps changing the oil? Yeah, is that what you're getting at? In a way, it's what I're getting at? In a way, it's what I'm getting at, and in men's. In a way, that's what I'm getting at, and in men's. And you've got a new album out on Spotify. Of SoundCloud. Can't say brands on the ABC. Oh, absolutely. I'm so sorry. You've got a new album out. It's on a free music service. Why so sorry, even a new album out, it's on a free music service. Why the free releasing of music? Well, I think with this album Jingle Wings, it was sort of, because it's my, it's my broadest,
Starting point is 00:38:15 it's my, I don't know, it just wanted to move through from grass to tree top. And what's your favourite track? I mean, there are many great tracks on two drawings. But what is your personal favourite? Danny, Danny, home we go. Would you like to sing some of it now? Thank you. Jesus, Jesus, where is the ocean? Oh, Danny floated out to sea.
Starting point is 00:39:14 Oh ye, island, come with me. Thank you. That was... That was... That's Anne Edmond's in the studio performing live. Stay tuned for Richard Stubbs after the news on the hour. You've been listening to ABC Conversation Air. And we'll be playing a few more songs.
