Starting point is 00:00:00 Get a legends and welcome to another rip episode of the arntie Donna podcast. On this week's episode name he joins us to discuss her and Mark's new TV show Why Are You Like This? Aussies can binge why you like this on iView right now and I just finished the first two episodes and it's absolutely hilarious. So check it out. The Antidona podcast is a fun podcast. It's a podcast where people have jokes and laughs. It's usually just the three members of Aunty Donna having a goof and a gag. Occasionally we'll have on a guest. Today is one of those
Starting point is 00:00:53 such days. Our guest who joins us is Naomi Higgins. Broden, what can we say of Naomi Higgins? Well, what can we say? What can we say? She's been a member in a way of the group for as long as it goes. She started as a fan coming to shows. She started working at Eweroneau, we met at a show, and then she also worked with Zach at a cinema that we won't name. They make the factory where it's at, makes a certain jam. That's how we know Naomi. She does happen to be Mark's partner, but more than that, Naomi is a writer, actor, performer who got her start in stand-up comedy. She's a raw finalist,
Starting point is 00:01:56 she's a performer. In the five or so years that Naomi has been working in comedy, she's been trailing a path, moving at a pace that is really incredible, so exciting. And yes, as we did mention Mark, she is your partner, but that's not a big part of this interview. Would you say she's moves as fast as the flash in Zack Snyder's Justice League? Well, he can move so fast, he can change time.
Starting point is 00:02:23 Yeah. So she can't move that fast. Well, they don't know her. I know her quite well, as you mentioned before, although she's not defined by this, she is my partner. She's also a great comic and a great writer in her own, right? Yes, Naomi? I will say you do know her.
Starting point is 00:02:41 However, Zach has known her longer than you so I feel like Zach's position is important. I would argue that however, I know Naomi maybe a little more intimate than Zach though. Well I think you just brought up time and how important time is to you and I believe Zach knows Naomi for a longer stretch of time. Guys, guys, guys, this is silly argument about whether or not Naomi Higgins, comedian, performer, writer can move as fast as the flash. I would argue the fact that I worked with her in a hospitality setting and some of those Saturday nights if she had that power,
Starting point is 00:03:26 I'm sure she would have pulled them out. I can't see, I can't see a situation, Mark. I've like in your own personal life with Naomi that calls more for a flash like speed. And that's all I would argue. Yeah, would have brought it out on this skeleton cruise. Hello, everyone, happy to be here. Oh, sorry, I'm so sorry, Naomi. We're still doing the introduction. Hello everyone, happy to be here. I'm so
Starting point is 00:03:45 sorry, Naomi. We're still doing the introduction. Okay, great, great. Sorry. No, no, that's okay. Is there anything we should add to your introduction? Can you make it half as long and twice as funny? You're talking to one, you're talking to one. That is not something that we do. Every note we've built a career on not doing that, but please, Broden. I have a joke. Throw in a mizak. Broden. Hey Naomi, thanks for coming on the podcast. Did you find the podcast studio?
Starting point is 00:04:21 Okay. That's very funny because we're sitting in the study of our house. We both stream from where we're talking right down. Naomi, of course, at NOM Strosity on Twitter and Twitch. Check her out. Yeah, I'm a game of girl. But more than that, thank you. I am Mark's girlfriend. But that's not what we're here to talk about.
Starting point is 00:04:51 Naomi, we're not here to talk about the fact that you're Mark's girlfriend. We're here to talk about your new show that is right now out. You can do the binge on ABCI view. I do the binge. You should binge it. What are you old?
Starting point is 00:05:09 But, but I do have a question though about Mark. Yes. Proud it. I just want to ask a question first. As long as. Okay. In this, in this, would it be okay if there's ever a point where you like have a rift and I go, or trouble in paradise.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Okay. Do you want me to think of one? Oh, but we can try and fabricate some. No, I've never fabricated it. I just want it to come naturally. Okay. I just want it to come naturally. So there's a point where you guys go, I don't think that's the case. And you go, well, I don't think that's the case either.
Starting point is 00:05:46 And then I'll go trouble and paradise, Zach. Yeah. And then I go, I go, oh, I don't really say much. I just go, oh, no, it's more of a facial expression. Even though it's my rift, can I say, someone's in the dog house? Oh, that's great. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's really good.
Starting point is 00:06:02 That's just from a writing perspective. I don't really understand why you would say that like I'm happy to take that line on for you. Okay. If you want, if you want, it'll probably be funny. I coming from you anyway. Often I am in the dog house, so that's why this really resonates with me this bit. Shut the fuck up. Can we just talk through exactly what the plan is here, guys? So Naomi, you started? What? You started? What?
Starting point is 00:06:25 You started and oh, does Mark say something? I just want to talk to you. I think you can plan for me forward. We will start fighting at some point. Someones in the dog house. Shut up. Sorry. I guess I'm a little paradise.
Starting point is 00:06:36 OK, and then I'm someone's in the dog house. Yeah, that was better for me. That was better for me. Can we want to run through it one more time Mark? You say something stupid Naomi you get a bit like come on mate. Or we can do it the other way around. That's probably less sexist. So maybe Naomi you say something stupid.
Starting point is 00:06:54 I have to win and say stupid things. I don't know. No, but it's stupid thing. Um, what, how does gravity work? I don't understand. Also I got my period. No, Newton's the apple fell on fuck up Sorry Troubling paradise
Starting point is 00:07:14 Okay, and someone has a dog house in their backyard and I'm in it It went other people take your ideas and they don't fully understand them But I saved it. Did you didn't you hear me save it? I thought I told you to stop. I, I, Zach loved it up. Miss the hoot. Brodom will know about this. Zach, Zach threw the ball.
Starting point is 00:07:32 It missed the hoot, but hit the backboard. And then I'm Michael Jordan, slim, dunked it in by saying, and I'm in it. So I think that translates well to an audience. I love you, Zach. Can I just make up a few? Yeah, here. I did do a slight rewrite on the script. I made you so much. Can I just make up a little bit here? Can I just make up a little bit here? I did do a slight rewrite on the script.
Starting point is 00:07:47 I took it from someone's in the dog house to someone has a dog house in their backyard. I just want to make it perfectly clear. I know I made that change. From you Naomi, it would have been a better line. Yeah, I feel like you got me on board to have a woman's perspective. And then you sort of yeah and then you sort of ripped that away at the end so there was no point in getting me in just so you look better
Starting point is 00:08:09 because you have a woman involved and that is what it felt like to me. Okay so there's sort of like a political reason for getting you on board. Yeah I can't think of any other reason I've ever been hired. Hey guys yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, to the show and sitting in the front are on screen. No, you're not someone who would have traveled to Sydney to see us do a show over there. We're the bunch of other people who we worked with because I'd never been to Sydney before and we went on a little holiday. Oh, so that did happen.
Starting point is 00:08:53 We did go to see an arti-donno-show, but it's not like you had swaths of screaming fans back then, okay? The show wasn't even full. Sorry, guys, I'm so sorry. I'm gonna have to cut you off right now. Broden does have something he needs to say Not yet. No, Broden. Broden. You had something else you needed to say. This is the prime opportunity to say the line would prepare Come on come on man. Come on. Don't fuck you. You got this bro So now we're bickering about this the fact Come on brother cuz I know this like I could have helped there what you spoke over him go again, bro
Starting point is 00:09:34 Don't we need to get it clean. I'm slurring paradise No, not bachelor in paradise, bro. Don't trouble in paradise. Do you want to say that again? We can kind of cut it in Trouble in paradise I'm sorry, I was just trying to save it. I was just trying to save it. I understand, but that's not your job. That's my job to save it, okay? Dog house coming at ya. My dog house that I'm living in. I'm just trying to, again, that work. That was an alley you had to wait for your tab. You done well.
Starting point is 00:09:59 I was just trying to save it. I was just trying to save it. I understand, but that's not your job. That's my job to yeah. My doghouse that I'm living in, I'm just trying to, again, that work, that was an alley you had to wait for your tab of you done well. Bro, did you want to talk about an alley you? Okay, I know you love basketball. I'm doing these references for you
Starting point is 00:10:17 to make to get you excited about what cause. I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry. It's so funny to be in this having listened to the podcast and knowing that this is one of the ones that makes more sense Yeah, this is a good one. This is going really well for us. We are crushing I stopped listening to the Antidonna podcast Quite a while ago and then Michelle just before you went to Sydney No, shut up
Starting point is 00:10:43 Someone gets a dog in the house. That Brodans in. Michelle Brazier said, just listen, at least listen to the podcast. One of the ones that I'm in. And I said, okay. And then I turned on one and it was literally 15 minutes of you guys pretending to speak Italian. It was 15 minutes of gibberish.
Starting point is 00:11:00 And I kept skipping forward two minutes, another two minutes. And you still hadn't said any real words. I still remember the look in Broden's eyes when we were doing that podcast, and I thought, I think we need to check in about the podcast. I remember looking over and going, Eric and we need to just sit there and have a conversation about what this podcast is.
Starting point is 00:11:20 Make all we want to get out of this podcast. Because you're absolutely right. Was it ads on that? Was there an ad? Did someone pay money? They made $1,000 of dollars to the ad space on that? And that's being eye-only, wasn't to the ad really? Naomi, Naomi, we are doing an introduction for you because you're here to promote your show. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:46 You know, binge it now on I view. Yes. But we've got to do the introduction. Is there anything we should say about you, about the show? Mark's involved in the show as well. Mark, you can talk of it if you wish. Thank you. Yeah, we wrote the show together.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Us two and, um, Hermione Marvab, who lives in Sydney. Ah. Is this for the intro? Huh? Because that feels like an answer to a lives in Sydney. Just for the intro. Because that feels like an answer to a question. We haven't done the intro yet. We haven't finished the intro yet. Well, I was just saying like,
Starting point is 00:12:12 if you're enjoying the show, then it's the three of us created the show together and that's why I'm here. And it's Mark's show too. So do you mind if I just have a quick conversation with Prada and very quickly? Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:24 Bro, man, hey. Well, the bloody hell's going on here. I'm proud. So, you're Brodick Kelly, I'm Zach Reway. My big issue here. You're my mic and a rail. There's no mic and a rail. My big issue here, Brodent, is that I don't know how to...
Starting point is 00:12:40 I don't know the name of the show. Oh. And I've been like, angler for them to tell me the name of the show for so long. Zach. For months. Listen. Listen. This is so frustrating.
Starting point is 00:12:52 It's your, I don't know it either. And I've looked to you. You said you were going to run this show. Zach. Zach. Why are you like this? Oh, that's something we're seeing. That I'm like this. Um, but I don't know what, what do you, what do you mean? Why am I like this? Oh, that's something we're seeing that I'm like this.
Starting point is 00:13:06 But I don't know, what do you mean, why am I like this? What do you mean? I just like why you like this? You never prepare. Why are you like this? Why don't you take a look at yourself? I don't know, is there some sort of hint?
Starting point is 00:13:19 Why are you giving me a hint? Why are you? No, I'm asking you, Zach. Why don't you look at yourself and have a think? Why? I know why I'm like this. We've had long conversations about why I'm like this. It's neurological reasons.
Starting point is 00:13:31 We've talked about this. But what are you doing to get better? I'm doing a lot. I've got a therapy of taking medication. I don't know why you bring this up in the middle of a podcast because we get back to the day when we're talking about it. But why are you like this? Why didn't you prepare it would be a fair question?
Starting point is 00:13:48 This is really insulting to me right now, bro. Now, bro, do we have there you bring this up? This is a private conversation. Now you're getting upset. Why are you like this? Why don't you just give me a hint? If you know the name of the show, just give me a hint. Just to maybe say the name of the show that breaks.
Starting point is 00:14:03 But it's that, man That why are you like this? How dare you say if you say why you like this one more time? I'm done. I'm done. I'm dismantling Auntie Donna. I just want one hint. It's to the name of the show One hint why Yeah, I can't I can't he I can't. He's trapped here. What do you mean you can't? This is entrapment. Help me, Mark and Naomi.
Starting point is 00:14:32 We're going to have to act as Catherine Zeta Jones here because this is Broden has been entrapmented. You know that movie where she does it yet? Alright. Yes! Alright! You know that movie where she does it yet. All right. Yes. All right. Oh, fucking hell. I was like, I don't believe her and Sean Connery
Starting point is 00:14:50 and then like a couple of months later, it was, she married Michael Douglas. It was like, well, turns out you can't believe her. I don't understand any of these references. Oh, we can't. We can't use younger ones. Yeah. Can we rank the best 90s female lead,
Starting point is 00:15:10 a wrongly accused crime revenge film. Oh, I know what number one is. I know what my number one is. Realize. What? No. No for Broden. No, not for Mark.
Starting point is 00:15:22 Okay. Actually, mine's double jeopardy with actually. Double jeopardy, double jeopardy, double jeopardy, double jeopardy. Double jeopardy, double jeopardy, double jeopardy. And Tommy Lee Jones is a wonderful film. What if instead of doing something like that, we did something that I knew more about, or maybe like ranking the characters
Starting point is 00:15:41 from like high school musical or something? Oh Naomi, why you like this? That's it, bro. And we're done. What? No! No, those questions are done. Finally.
Starting point is 00:15:54 Zack, don't you understand, bro, then was giving you a clue this whole time. The name of the show is Wired Jeopardy. Oh! You're promoting your new sitcom Double Jeopardy! Now, do the binge, do the binge on ABC on you. Please do the binge. No, we should get to the introduction of Naomi. We've been, yeah, should we do it now?
Starting point is 00:16:21 We've been doing it. We're in the introduction. But I feel like I tried to talk about the show, and then you're like not now, so we can get the introduction over with, and then we can talk more about the show, maybe. I don't know. I don't know. I'm not. I'm not.
Starting point is 00:16:34 Yeah, and I want to do, I want to do. I'm a dominatrix. So you know, often when you're once, when you urge for something, he will hold out the pleasure Sounds like my wife. No, no Not now He was a sexist quip
Starting point is 00:16:59 Naomi was like like my wife and that's a sexist quip But I do sexist material coming from a woman. It's funny. They're refining Guys guys guys guys. Yes We need to calm down. We need to get like this on the rails We need to get it back on the rails and haven't even finished the introduction of Naomi. What is an intro to you? We talk about your career. Do an example exactly I think I did pretty well do an example easy Introduce me okay All right, why don't you introduce this podcast? Yeah, okay? Well, here's the problem right now. I've got two things. I have to decide between and I don't know which one to choose flippa coin Harvey Dent
Starting point is 00:17:41 Why are you like this flip a coin Harvey Dent. Why are you like Dent? Flip a coin Harvey Dent to decide. Because two faces. Heads flip a coin sugar. Flip a coin sugar. I'm gonna introduce Mark. I'm gonna introduce Mark Bonanna. Here we go. What? No question.
Starting point is 00:17:56 We throw men in sugar. Right. Shook. Rising to fame as one third of the performers of Auntie Donna, Mark Bonanna has been blazing a trail on the Australian and international comedy scenes. His grotesque imagery and absurd observations
Starting point is 00:18:15 have created an impact that excites and beguiles men between the age of 16 and 35 and some women. He is now branching out with his first solo project, a collaboration with his partner, Naomi Higgins, and the very exciting Hamyara. I don't know Hamyara. Hamyara? Is it Hamyara? No.
Starting point is 00:18:39 Absolutely not. Hamyara. Hamyara. Hamyara. Hamyara. Hamyara. I should've known that Mark did think it was Hamyara for quite a while. I only know where it's Ham. Yes. Oh, what is it? Um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, It was going really long until- When you say it fell apart when you mispronounced a name of like Arabic origins and then sort of Dapanik about it? No, no, I would have like happily skated over it but it was probably when the guest The guest was like, Ham Yara? Is that how you think you say her name?
Starting point is 00:19:22 Trouble in paradise. Do it brodo. Two dogs in the house and it's real in the lawn. And sacks in it. Okay, do it brodo now. Can you include in my bio, I have a request. Yeah. I want you to include that I burnt my head last week
Starting point is 00:19:40 and it's flaking. Okay, so, but what I'm going to do is I'm going to create a dramatic situation here. It was a sunburn, Naomi, I'm going to create a dramatic situation. So yeah, but Naomi, can you come at me again about not being able to do an introduction? Okay, just one more time. Go. Exactly. So how so why is this introduction taken so long with the F? What's going on? Yeah, well, you think it's so easy.
Starting point is 00:20:09 Why don't you do an introduction, for example, Broden, but make sure to include the fact that he's sunburnt, his head last week. Broden Kelly, he's from Antidonna. He went to Ballarat Uni and studied theatre. He does a lot of TV work, which you might know him from. And he's so funny and he got sunburned on his head. Here he is!
Starting point is 00:20:43 Well, I think I know me. Yes I think I want to know my note. Yes. He's my note. That was twice as funny and half as long as my introduction. Congratulations. Ah! Ah! Bra, if I brought in how do you feel?
Starting point is 00:21:00 I feel like I didn't know that about me. And now I know myself in a way that I wouldn't have. That's the strength of a bio, isn't it? When you introduce someone, you are welcoming them to the space. Yeah, I would love to feel that. The strength also of like a biochemical ooze is it can turn our little turtles into ninjas.
Starting point is 00:21:27 Okay, absolutely. You've moved on to the engine. And rats. I feel like we were getting some of the things that helped me. And rats. But yeah, and rats. So, but the rat was trained by a samurai pre ooze.
Starting point is 00:21:41 Beasts. Yeah, I wanted to be more than like a suffocation. I feel like we were getting to a point where I was going to get used. And then you brought up the Teenage Weed Ninja Jail. The turtles were trained post ooze, but Splinter knew how to fight. Pre-use. Splinter is the rat. Yeah, so that's, which suggests, and I've not read the, you know, the comic book origin
Starting point is 00:22:03 story, but there was a man, a ninja man, who daily sat down with a rodent and trained them how to be a ninja. Or in the art of ninja tsu. And by, and with the hopes that something would come of it, and then just by happenstance, the road and became almost like human. And then the skills were learned, like that skills were valuable. But before that, there was just a man teaching a rat. Sorry. Yeah. I just want to as the podcast started. Oh, yes. Because you're saying we can't talk about the show until
Starting point is 00:22:41 we get into the intro. Yeah. It's almost like we haven't gotten to the intro yet. And now we're talking about teenage mutant ninja turtles. Yes. Sorry, what's the issue here? I just feel like, like I tried to talk before and you were like, shut the fuck up bitch, shut the fuck up. Oh, I can't even say that.
Starting point is 00:22:59 I don't know how to cut this shit. That was not. It's just you can't shut your can't make it. I did not say that about that. And I was like, okay, when did I talk and you said after the intro? And so I've been waiting for the intro and now we're talking about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Starting point is 00:23:12 You're free to talk out. And I've shut my can't mouth. I've shut my can't mouth this whole time. Oh no, that's really gendered language. I did not use that. And I've been really- Exactly, you sound like David O'Russell. Yeah, okay, I do sound like David O'Russell. It's a great reference.
Starting point is 00:23:28 I know the reference that I do not understand. I think you can get a little bit of a loss. You're yelling at Lily Tomlin. Yeah, a very good reference. David O'Russell yelling at Lily Tomlin and the I Heart Huckabee set. And she's the seawood. Quite genuine.
Starting point is 00:23:39 That's right. Naomi. Yes. We're going to get this introduction done. And then we're going to ask you the hard hitting the deep questions. You're going to get this introduction done, and then we're going to ask you the hard hitting the deep questions. You're going to be like, oh my god, it's Willosophy 2.0. Which is out and people are saying very nice things,
Starting point is 00:23:53 by the way. Are you promoting Willosophy? Are you promoting your new ABC? I love to promote something, Zach. I'd love to promote something. If any quagga that I've been getting on this show, that isn't for some fucking boy movie from the 90s, I'd love to. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is for everyone. For everyone. It really is for everyone. It has a lot of action in it but I would say that
Starting point is 00:24:16 there's a human story underneath that is resonant with all genders. Have you seen it? Have I seen Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? I have it on turtle shell green be hey, brodin What have you seen teenage mutant ninja turtles? Yes, yeah, but brodin doesn't like that much. Yeah So I haven't seen it so you said it's for boys and girls I'm the boys and girls and so I represent all women or all cons in Zach's words. Oh my God, I've never said that. I never said that. Well, we'll go back and listen to this, Zach, and see.
Starting point is 00:24:55 Yeah, why don't you maybe you don't have the best memory, but those kind of words to a woman? Yeah. That's memorable. So I haven't seen that movie. It's a false accusation So I haven't seen that movie. It's a false accusation. I haven't seen that movie. So I would argue that as the only woman here is not for girls. Well, maybe that's just because have you seen secrets of the ooze? Secrets of the ooze. Have you seen number two? Who are you talking
Starting point is 00:25:22 to? You guys talk among the kids and maybe it can evolve into an hour. Secret of the use? What is that? It has been interturtles the second movie? No, why do I have seen the sequel if I haven't seen the movie? Secret of the ooze? Some people have, I've only seen Blade 2. I've only seen Aventure 2.
Starting point is 00:25:40 Yeah, I've watched Blade 2 on Zack's recommendation, but I have not seen Blade 1 not further. Did you follow Blade 2? Yeah, they give you everything you need to know. Because I feel like you have to sit through a bunch of exposition at the start to explain a bunch of stuff. Yeah. Well, that's not a great sequel then, is it? Not necessarily no.
Starting point is 00:26:01 So would you say that it was worth that watching this? All I'm art, you're grilling me here. And all I'm asking is, have you seen secrets of the ooze? No, I haven't. All right. Okay. I'm probably paradise. Yeah, and let me tell you, I thought we're zooming this because of a five-day snap lock down in Victoria, we're zooming this. And I see a small image at the top of my zoom of Naomi Marx where they're doing their
Starting point is 00:26:32 podcast from Bail Accounts. Marx said it's from where they do their Twitch streams. And I'm seeing as the zoomer. Just the zoomer. Yeah, well, this is Martin Broden. Here's my point here, man. I'm seeing what I thought was like a study or a bedroom That's what I'm seeing right now. I'm seeing what I thought was Mark study in a house in a big house
Starting point is 00:26:51 It's funny though. It's funny though because by all indications Right now mark is not in a people in us, but rather in a dog house Very very good That's a round But rather in a dog house. Very good. Very good. That was right. That was very good. That was very good. All the misogyny is wiped from the slide. Yeah, and I've forgotten that you called me,
Starting point is 00:27:12 can't, on my period, get off my rags, you dumb bitch. I forgot you said all that. I think we'll never go this far. Legitimately, we would never go this far offensively on anything. These are the first of the podcasts ever ever gone and I thank you for it. Yeah. Well, I like it's a fun thing to do with a group of straight white men who try to keep their comedy apolitical.
Starting point is 00:27:36 You can't just throw it. You can't even like it. You can't even like it. You can't even like it. You can't even like it. You can't even like it. You can't even like it. You can't even like it.
Starting point is 00:27:44 You can't even like it. You can't even like it. You can't even like it. You can't even like it. You force our hand. Um, sorry, sorry to go. How you doing? You don't want to silence me, I do. That's not. Very funny, please stop. Um, I mean, maybe that's one way to get an intro. If I just keep saying that you called me a cunt, then maybe you will finally introduce me
Starting point is 00:28:03 and we can start the podcast. Should maybe I introduce Naomi. We, uh, it's been prepping something for 25 fucking minutes, Mark. Oh, I was, I'm so close to the end here. I'm so close to it. You're edging.
Starting point is 00:28:21 You're edging. Why are you like this? Yeah, Mark, why are you like this? Is a great show. What? Zach, this is, we know it's your birthday. And so we upgift to you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:38 Is that this whole time, the name of the show has been why are you like this? Not double jeopardy? what What so what what why do you say the name of the show? What yes the name of the show why are you like this what what you keep going to say the name of the show And then you ask that rude question every time listen, come listen. Well that's really gendered language I don't think you should say that.
Starting point is 00:29:08 Thanks, I'm saying it to my in Australia, come is like that's what you call your best mates. Really? Yeah I call my mum a come. Wow. And it's cool. Zach. And which too. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:22 Which you cause. Zach, you're the name. and bitch too. Yeah. Which you cause. Zach, you're the name. So this is- Let me take over. Let me take your fuck over. Please. For a minute.
Starting point is 00:29:34 All right. Zach. For a second. No. All right. Are you gonna tell me the name of this show? I'm gonna tell you, the name of the show, this been confusion this whole time
Starting point is 00:29:45 Hi jinx, it's been ridiculous. The show is called Why You Like This and it's on ABC I've you streaming right now and I'll tell you what in a little bit of time overseas You'll get your chance to on the platform Netflix, which is tattooed on my ass now Let's have a listen to the trailer for why are you like this? Every night And to the trailer for why are you like this? I'm just the two of us with nobody else around. Never to be forgotten. Yeah? Yeah? Yeah! At the night, don't know. It's not the word.
Starting point is 00:30:36 Oh, no, no. Who am I? Husband is. Nickball live transporces. Nick wanted to make sure that we'd be okay. There's a big difference between okay and two million dollars. The jury may seem as a motive. I didn't kill my husband. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses.
Starting point is 00:30:47 Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses.
Starting point is 00:30:55 Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses.
Starting point is 00:31:03 Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. Nip-on-life transposses. way back to her son is to find out what really happened. Hi, Mommy. Hello, sweetie. Hi. Daddy. Very good, very exciting. Thank you. We're so close to the end of this intro, bro.
Starting point is 00:31:15 And I feel like Naomi, is there anything else you want us to sort of color this introduction with any other details about the show, any messaging you want us to get in that intro before the interview? I think Livia Parsons did a great job, which I think comes through when you watch it, when you binge it on I of you. Please binge it. And I guess we just want people to think about the message of the film.
Starting point is 00:31:45 You know, why are you like this? Why would they put you in jail or whatever the plot is of the show? You're not saying double jeopardy? No, I have not seen double jeopardy. Oh Naomi, it is a powerhouse of the flick. It's a judge at her absolute best. But that's a judge at her absolute best The I think yeah, I think that what the 90s really perfected and As genre that I really truly miss me go off queen
Starting point is 00:32:14 Excuse me in the 90s. Excuse me. Clean. Naomi was born in the 90s. Go off king. Go off You're off clean Naomi look I think Zach was born in the 90s we born the 90s no I got 80s for 60 days everyone in Donner is an is an is a 89 except for me I was like you're not an 89 your 88er you're a finer guys we're really getting off topic here I'm trying trying to really get this intro out so we can ask the hard questions. Naomi. Naomi.
Starting point is 00:32:49 What is the show about? Just so I can get you give me the broader thing, the broad strokes, but the actual show, not double jeopardy. What's the show about? Who's gonna like it? Those sorts of things. I wanna, even though that's usually
Starting point is 00:33:01 at the end of a podcast that you do the plug, can you just tell me what you would usually at the end of a podcast that you do the plug Yeah, can you just tell me what what you would do at the end of a podcast and then I'll fold that into the intro just to About like three People in their early 20s who are not very good at kind of no Oh, no, Brad and don't open that can't it. That's not our show son three people in the early 20s. Oh no, Brad, I don't open that can or what? That's not our show, son. Three people in the early 20s. Oh no, no, no. I, let's, you should talk to,
Starting point is 00:33:33 maybe your therapist about that one. Um, I think, um, I ran out of health, I ran out of sessions, didn't I? On your mental health care plan, gone. It's February. Get another one fuckhead Said who 20 now for the Torians because of the locked down really hot really sorry anyway, I
Starting point is 00:33:53 Okay, it's three people in the early 20s. They're kind of anti-heroes their pieces of shit and they talk about stuff that is you know the topics people talk about stuff that is, you know, the topics people talk about on Twitter. So it's political but also stupid. Yeah, you're very, very, very, a lot of queues. I hear the Murdoch press love it as an indictment
Starting point is 00:34:15 of cancel culture. They do. Well, that's a, I really, I posted that. I really thought that was a good review that we got in the Australian. And everyone was like, hey, you know, don't listen to them and I was like, I really like it. They got us unwork and I think people thought I would be upset about that, but I liked it.
Starting point is 00:34:31 One article called the show Trends Grressive and someone messaged me and was like, Hey, don't listen to them, man. I'm really excited for the show. That don't, that's bullshit. I'm like, no, it's okay. We like that. That's quite a nice thing like, no, it's okay. We like that. That's quite a nice thing to say about the show. Listen, I've seen the pilot as have a few people in Australia.
Starting point is 00:34:51 I was also living with Mark when we were making our show and you guys were developing yours. I heard a couple of the plots. I overheard a couple of the plots. I'm very excited to see it. I think it's gonna be fantastic. It's gonna be a great show. But let's get to the intro. Why are you like this is what it's called? Correct. Yes.
Starting point is 00:35:11 Co-writer of Why Are You Like This with our very own Mark Manano and Hum. She is funny. I don't know. And then she's funny, she's sharp, she's just come off doing philosophy. So she's probably going to be a bit thinky. Naomi Higgins, thank you so much for joining us on the podcast. Thank you so much for having me. I'm so excited to be here. Good day. My first question Naomi is what's Markle I could hire? I bet he makes a big old mess. What's Mark really like behind the curtains?
Starting point is 00:35:50 That's funny because you asked that question, but I was listening to someone else's Will Asafi podcast. Oh, I'm so sorry, Dan. And they were talking about, I know, I know these boys better than their own partners do and it's like, I'm in several marriages. That's my wife. And also, I think about politics. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:36:12 It's not what I tried not to do that. Now, could I say if we're talking about philosophy, you're like your little anime, you look like a Disney character. I really like that picture. I've been waiting to share those ones. I really like that drawing. It's a beautiful picture. I look like that picture. I've been waiting to see those ones. I really like that drawing. It's a beautiful picture. I look like that in real life. Whereas I look like the person who has murdered more people like a serial killer. That's like a serial killer.
Starting point is 00:36:37 A sketch from a police sketch. You're right. Yeah. Anyway, I'm so sorry Naomi, I'm so sorry to do this. It's okay. But we're actually out of time. It's been great. It has been great, but we got to introduce you. We got to find out what Mark is really like behind the scenes, which was great. We got the name of the show. Is this really it?
Starting point is 00:37:01 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which is something I'm really passionate about. Is this really it? And also, I've brought in my discovery that we have the, both have a favorite female lead murder mystery. How long have you been doing this, from the 90s, double jeopardy starring Ashley Judd? How long have you been doing this, from the 90s?
Starting point is 00:37:17 37 minutes. No, I mean years. 30s. So, what's the one with Harrison Ford? The famous. The fugitive right. So there's that film and then like five years later it's the same film with the same cop chasing after a wrongfully accused person. Yeah. I think there's like three films where Tommy Lane Jones is always the cop and he's always chasing and then he has a change of heart I'm waiting how many years to come on this fucking podcast or five. I don't know
Starting point is 00:37:53 Broden there is but with one of those one of those films the one Snipes that the name alludes me at the night is movies the whole That one is canon. That is a sequel to the future. But that whole jeopardy is not. I've been calling your car. In Tom and Lee Jones plays a canon one. And you're right, let me talk about my show at all. It's not? That mob co-create by the way.
Starting point is 00:38:13 As the man running away. This is such a waste of time. But that one is canon. And it's actually a sequel to the fugitive. And they reference Harrison Ford's character in that movie, but not in Doubley in double jeopardy and that's just like he's playing a similar role He did great in the future. It's you as Marshalls. I was watching the come on this podcast Sorry, what were you saying? I was having a conversation with my friend about the fugitive you couldn't do that another time Mark. Oh Someone's oh
Starting point is 00:38:45 Keep going keep going going, keep going. Keep going. Mark, do you think that maybe... Traveling paradise. Now let him fight for a bit, bro, then. Go, Mark, go, go, keep fighting. Sorry, I'll get back into it. Do you think that maybe now would be a good time
Starting point is 00:38:59 to talk about our television show, Mark, that we created? You have this huge audience of little boys who would love it. If it has a girl, it has a Muslim girl and it has a gay boy. And your audience would love the show. And yet you invite me on this podcast. And by you invite me, I mean, I ask, and I say, give me some of that clout.
Starting point is 00:39:24 I say, let me on your fucking podcast for once. I come on here. We tread higher than Logan Paul. We do. Yeah. And he's in one of those content houses. And no, he's not. No, he's not.
Starting point is 00:39:39 He was at some point. He had a head. I've seen the top of his house. He had a head. I think he lives next to. I'm thinking of getting a content. Is our patina still alive? Yeah. Naomi, would you get one mind? He lives next door to each other. He's still alive, even if he's dead, he's alive in our hearts. Okay, so, sorry, so
Starting point is 00:39:59 you guys were just having a bickered. Did you have anything to say about that argument, Broden? Trouble in paradise. And then I, oh, I have to say, is someone's in the dog hair. Oh, all right. Well, what a faggot. And that is come full circle. That's what you call a call back.
Starting point is 00:40:15 And that's what you call a structurally sound podcast. And that's what you call a Harold. I've never seen a Harold. To me either. But I know it's long form. I will never watch improv. I will never watch improv. You've watched improv.
Starting point is 00:40:29 Yeah, I quite like it. It shows that you've never watched improv. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Do yourself a favor watch why you like this tonight on I've you if you're in Australia if you're overseas You can't yet, but you can soon on Netflix can soon on Netflix binge it can soon you can soon You can can can you can go to can you can't watch why you like this, but you can go to Cancun. But you're too much. And watch. And watch. And watch why you like this in Cancun. And Cancun. Watch it in the overseas Cancun.
Starting point is 00:41:10 You can soon go to Cancun. Cancun go to Cancun. Watch why you like this. Binge it. The right love it. The left love it. Wow. It's a thing.
Starting point is 00:41:20 We don't know how people sitting on the fence. We don't know what centrist thing could do. Centrist will hate it. Centrist will hate it because it takes, because it's a thing that exists. Because it has a lot of it. Maybe they will. Whether you're right wing, left wing.
Starting point is 00:41:33 Not in the middle. Not in the middle. That night wing. Night wing. You know what, it doesn't even matter if you enjoy the show. Just watch it. Just fucking watch it. Yeah, watch it again.
Starting point is 00:41:44 And then if you don't like it, keep your fucking mouth shut. Yeah, calm down. You come back. Oh, Mark. Mark, you're coming off a little bit. I'm not desperate. I don't watch the show. See if I give an F. I was saying that. Don't watch the show. Come. You guys promoting your show made me feel a lot braver about just being, Don't watch the show gun. You guys promoting your show made me feel a lot braver about just being relentless about promoting this show. Yeah, go for it. You should get ABC tatted on your ass.
Starting point is 00:42:11 I'm not gonna do that. That's really stupid. Why not? That'll be fun. Then we can make the Netflix logo and the ABC logo kiss. I wouldn't want to take that for me. I mean, it is a co-pro that would be cute. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:22 Um, I, this has been such a waste of time for me. Yeah, big time. Hey, do you want to know a secret Naomi? What's up, back? We did a bit where we said the name of the show dozens of times. Yes. We talked about the themes of the show. Oh, yeah, that's true.
Starting point is 00:42:40 We spent the whole podcast. We did touch on misogyny a bit. And then he's a theme in the show. We treat touch on misogyny a bit. We are. And there is a theme in the show. You demonstrated my sharp and funny you were. Did I? Heck, we made ever have gotten to the interview. Heck.
Starting point is 00:42:54 But maybe the introduction was secretly just a bit and we were promoting the show the whole time. Whoa. And I would say if that's what you're after, listen to philosophy, I did an interview on there, it's great. You need to stop promoting other places of promotion. Just one piece of advice.
Starting point is 00:43:18 Like my one piece of advice, actually, in all of this, is that probably focus on the show you're promoting because you're going to get caught in a very complicated web of promoting the other things, promoting the thing. Well, I've got to address the batteries at some point. Broughton does keep holding up a pack of energizer batteries. So if you are just listening, if you're not on our part of the anti-donnic app powered by Patreon where you can be watching this podcast. The visual that we're seeing is Broden keeps holding up packet of batteries, reading the instructions,
Starting point is 00:43:54 doing a thinking phase. Broden, tell us about the battery. I've got some battery. You've got some batteries. And look, you've used, that's not not a full packet you've used some of those Whatever you use them on any I've used to and any board of keyboard and then she put batteries in it Like a computer keyboard. They are brought another lithium No
Starting point is 00:44:21 No. No. Go double A battery. You can get double A lithium batteries. I'm not a fucking idiot. Uh oh. Trouble in dog house. Yeah, and I'm in it. We're doing one of these where it can't end things.
Starting point is 00:44:37 Yeah, I wanted to talk about it. I thought it was really good and then I felt bad. Well that's like, I don't know how long your podcast go for, because I have a podcast with Danielle Walker. I'd's like, I don't know how long your podcast go for, because I have a podcast with Danielle Walker. I'd just like to plug another podcast. I use you. No, no, no, no. It's fine.
Starting point is 00:44:51 And we talk for like two hours. Oh my god, stop plugging. I was like, everything. Oh, they're wrapping up. Oh, they do it like short and sweet. But then the batteries came up. Yeah. And we could do a whole another half-hour on batteries,
Starting point is 00:45:03 because we're professional comedians. I'm just trying to give you one piece of advice No, we just want to provide I just did a month and a half a pro for the Netflix show One piece of advice. I got one word funneling you want to funnel to one thing your show Okay, if you are promoting because he's the thing don't watch your show though I love that show. I wonder if she does anything else. Then they'll check out BatchBitch. Or my Twitch channel. Which is not stress. You've got some, I do.
Starting point is 00:45:32 I stream two to three times a week. I play different silly games. Please. Yes. So many things, they're gonna get confused, they're gonna just tell them to go to the show. Okay, go to my Instagram. And then you can find out to the show. Okay, go to my Instagram. And then you can find out about the show.
Starting point is 00:45:48 I've posted about philosophy on there. Don't talk about it. And my Twitch account. And then I have a separate Instagram page for a batch bitch, the podcast I do with Danielle Walker, who's been on this podcast before. It's an 801 thing. It's a lot.
Starting point is 00:46:09 I'm trying to think of what else I do but I can't think of anything else. You're a great hucker. Name it gives really good hugs. Thank you Mark. What do you guys like about me? Funny. Good writer. You're pretty cool. You think I'm cool? Yeah, I did. You're very great. Bingeable shows on ABCI View, available now in Australia and soon overseas. Thank you, Zach. I think I'm probably hugged both of them.
Starting point is 00:46:37 She gives the best hugs. Mark, please let it end. Well, thank you so much for coming on here, Naomi. We should end the podcast with a little hug. We're hugging. Have they haven't a little hug? Broden, did you have anything you wanted to say to close out this podcast? I just... I've got some batteries.
Starting point is 00:46:59 We know about the batteries, man. They're very nice. They're very, very nice batteries. You can tell that you've got Netflix money with the choice of batteries that you've made. Yeah, that is an engineering brand. No, it's not. You've gone for the brand, you've gone for the blue packet. Blue means good for battery. Does it? Yeah, blues usually associated with long-lasting with batteries. Check it out. Check it out. Make it one opportunity. And silver is the next step up. You can plug one thing. We're gonna end this on you plugging one thing. You can plug one thing. What do you want to plug? Okay.
Starting point is 00:47:37 If you go to, I can't remember what it's called, but I did a, I think for Channel 31 and I reviewed five different ice cream shops. Oh, that's so old. So, it's like five, best five of five of five or something like that. You look up that Naomi Higgins, you'll find my review of some different ice cream shops. I got a show. I got a show. Naomi, what?
Starting point is 00:48:00 You made the wrong. Oh, sorry. No, I wanted to. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, you
