This is a Grouse House podcast.
All right.
It's the Arnie D podcast.
I'm one of your hosts,
Jack Duane.
I'm joined as always by Grand Designs Batman,
GDB.
How you doing, buddy?
It's lovely to be here.
And we're joined, of course,
by Angelina and Old Italia Lady.
Hello.
This is the third podcast
that we've been doing these characters.
And this is our open.
theme tune, welcome to the Arnie D podcast.
Or just let it play out, yeah, all right.
Coming up this episode, we're going to be talking about how we can make the
R&D podcast financially viable.
It's a brainstorming session with your favorite R&D hosts.
As we think of different ways we can make this work right now.
So, it's been three weeks.
I we need to make this we need to make that with this is not making any money
I don't think you can rush that kind of conversation would be my thing oh yeah yeah and I
didn't I just say if you ever this is go back a list go back a few and start listening
don't start on this one go back to the hundred go to the start to the two
yeah go back yeah yeah it's start of the annie d podcast where it all happened
but you know just go back a few maybe
I don't think you can rush this kind of thing
it's like a house
yeah it's like a house it starts with brick mortar
and a concrete slab or stumps
I just feel like I've put a lot of money
and a lot of time into this podcast now
I've now been working for this for this company
for five weeks
yes
six weeks nearly
something like that I've now been
you know, the head of the podcast, lead host for two and a half weeks, two weeks.
And I'm feeling really nervous about the fact that we're not making money.
And I get what you're saying, but you're not the one sinking cash right now, are you?
Well, no, I, my income mainly hosts from hosting Grand Designs and being Batman.
Yeah.
And are you sinking any money in this, Angelina?
I've put them maybe, you know, $100,000 a dollar into the...
just stay into the pool
yeah and I appreciate that
and you probably want to see returns on that
don't you know
I'm a bit nice
but I don't mind
this is just a bit of fun too
keeping me busy on a Sunday
otherwise what I do
yeah that's true Tom
do you need to seek returns on this
I would yes
I've invested heavily in this podcast
yes
so I think we just fucking
come up with a few ideas
do a bit of a brainstorm
see what would you like
How much would you like it to be making and by when?
I would like, I'm realistic here.
I realistically would like to be turning a profit,
profit of two to three million per annum.
Oh my God.
By the end of the year.
By the end of the year.
For the podcast as a whole, but with our wages as well.
So that's not inclusive of our wages.
What's our wages in this world, you foresee?
I would like to get us, I don't think it's unreasonable for the podcast.
You know, it's about a month of our lives when you add it up.
It's about a month of working days, maybe a bit more.
And I don't think it's unreasonable for us to see 170K each.
Before or after tax?
After tax.
So more clever.
closer to maybe...
220 or something.
I don't think that's unreasonable when you consider the investment.
So it's sort of on level with commercial radio, breakfast radio kind of...
Numbers, but for a month of work.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But I'm not asking for anything.
Have you done like a profit model or business model or anything out of this?
Or do you have any ideas?
Well, what I want to do is I want to do...
This is a blue sky meeting.
I'm sure you know what that is.
Do you know what that is?
No.
Azul.
Azul.
Azul.
How do you say sky?
You just say sky
Azul
I'm not speaking Italian
Yeah and I speak a little Spanish
Azul
Asul
Sky
Yes
Meeting
I maybe put too much money into this
Azou
Maybe no hedge my better
I put all my soup
Into this
I don't think it's important
I don't
She just said she doesn't
She doesn't speak Italian
Yeah but I'm
I'm just going to look up sky.
That'll help her understand that it's a blue sky meeting.
Is the sky always a blue?
You have a meeting about there over two seconds.
No, well, that's...
Is it the sky blue?
Yes.
Okay, go on now.
Have a lunch.
Have something to eat.
Well, I think, I think the idea is, I actually don't know why they call it a blue sky meeting.
Tom, can you...
I think because it's like clear skies, there's no cloud, so anything, you know...
Yeah, it's...
There's no blocks.
No blocking.
It's a great clear sky.
Make anything else.
Great for my bat, my bat, my bat, wing.
Is that what we reckon it is?
I can fly my batwing through the sky.
Once I flew it up to the moon and it looked like my logo.
Tommy,
are you looking up blue sky meeting?
Blue sky is a mind,
a blue sky thinking is a mindset that encourages the explanation of ideas without limitations,
focusing on possibilities rather than constraints.
Can you say why do they call it blue sky?
Okay.
So we're just going to find out why they call it blue sky.
die. They make a dark edge.
Don't worry about that.
I'm just curious. I just want to find out why they call it.
It says based on the context of the TV show Breaking Bad,
the crystal methamphetamine producer by Walter White and Jesse Pinkman was called
Blue Sky, often just the Blue for two main reasons.
Distinctive colour.
Now you're talking about the blue meth in Breaking Bad, which is a fucking...
Oh, I love that series, yeah.
Yeah, I love that.
Walter White.
Walter White
fucking superb
Skyler
What do you think of
Skyler?
I think she's a horrible
woman
She's a horrible woman
The way she gets upset
With her husband
For being a drug kingpin
Always nagging him
About being a drug kingpin
He's a good guy
Is how I view that series
And she's a bad guy
That's my interpretation
Is that a fair interpretation?
I think of bad guys
It's like
Killer Croc
Or
Yeah
Yeah, killer crock guys.
Dead shot.
You live in a very clear moral universe, or at least you did, but it got a little more complicated in the 80s.
That's right, because houses were one way, but then we started to look at them in another.
Yeah.
You love your rooms.
Always rooms in England.
Lots of rooms.
And then whenever it's an open plan, you're walking around going, oh, it's very Australian.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So where we land on with the blue sky,
Tom.
So it's up for debate, but some people have said that it's also not granted or in touch
in the realities of the present.
So it could be used as a negative commentation.
Can I time out?
How do you want to make money?
Well, I want to have a blue sky meeting.
Yeah, we got that.
And we'll figure out what blue sky means.
I went to explain what it fucking means.
Then we're going to take the ideas.
I'm going to take the ideas and I'm going to do P&L.
I'm going to do a cash flow.
I'm going to get my dad's CFO to help me with that.
He's agreed to help me with that.
And then we're going to make one to two mill a year.
Oh.
I believe.
That's the goal.
I've not seen this break a bad day.
Oh, it's fucking brilliant, man.
Do I need to see to do this meeting?
Nah, it's just about two really cool guys and this wife that's just nagging all the time.
I've seen a bit.
on a YouTube short.
Oh yeah, you watch the YouTube shorts.
Just some little bits here and there,
but I know understand.
This man, he makes the blue,
he has a child,
here, come, die,
and someone else in the desert
and they shoot.
Yeah, that's right.
Yeah, he's, yeah.
He's, is bored.
Yeah, he shapes his...
Because of chemotherapy.
But at the start,
hair
yeah a little bit of hair at the start
yeah yeah yeah and they wear
the glasses
yep yep yeah glasses yeah
and they have the
mustache
yep yeah moustache
yep yeah
and the one on the chin
yeah
a little goatie yeah
and they
make the man
head the
go a pop.
Ah, yeah, probably.
Yeah, yeah, you're talking about, um, uh, uh, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, the bit with the men, uh, get...
Yeah, Dr. Kingpin, yeah, that's right, yeah.
I don't want to spoil it for people, it's quite an intense scene.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's awesome, yeah.
And I see him say, you know, you think you got me, but then, you know, I got you, eh?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That happened a couple of time, eh?
Yeah.
Yeah.
It might be a good, you know, you know, but I got to do.
the show but I've only seen this
some is just the YouTube
he seems to have seen quite a bit
Angel later he's come up
on the shorts a lot
there on the YouTube yeah you're on the
you're in the short you're watching the shorts
yeah on your iPad
I'm concerned about the numbers
you just put forward I don't think that's
an attainable thing for podcasts unless
you're like shameless or kickpod
and what's stopping us from being Tony and Ryan
shameless kick pod
Quality.
That's a good idea for a pod.
The Tony and Ryan
Shameless KickPod.
Well, yeah, exactly.
Why?
Because this is the thing, right?
You've been doing this for years.
What?
And I'm coming here.
Well, they have.
Tom has.
I've been doing this two episodes.
Yeah, yeah.
You've only been doing it as long as I have.
I only came into existence two episodes ago.
And what I'm going to do is I'm going to do a presentation for you guys.
Please, let's do it.
In a couple of weeks, so I'm going to do a presentation for you guys.
And I'm going to present to you.
case studies of podcasts that are successful that we should aim for,
and they're going to be things like KickPod and Tony and Ryad.
I'm going to point to them, and I'm going to say,
well, they get good brand deals,
and that's what I'm going to build my plan around.
But those shows have been around for a really long time
and have built an audience.
And we're going to aim to be that.
Yeah, yeah.
But do you see, you're saying you want to start making money soon?
And these are shows that been around for 10 years.
We've been around for 10 years
We've got, and we've just got to build on that
But with different hosts and different, like an entire
Like, I know
I have a gut feeling that the longer we stay around,
we're hemorrhaging audience
Maybe, but I've got one
Maybe idea how you can make some money from this.
Well, yeah, I'll get to the brainstorming, Angelina
But we've got some, we've got
What I like to call a doubting Thomas here
Oh, hey, don't call me that, call me Grand Designs Batman.
Like, Gdb, you are a doubting Thomas, and I want to show you my wound,
and I want you to put my finger in it, your finger in it.
What?
I want you to put your finger in my wound, and then you will no longer be a doubting Thomas.
That's what Jesus did with the doubting Thomas.
You know the phrase doubting Thomas?
I've never heard that in my life.
Doubting Thomas.
I've heard Thomas doubt things, but just a Thomas.
A different Thomas.
One of the apostles.
Thomas doubted Jesus
So Jesus said
Nah go out put your finger in my hole
Oh
And then he put it in and he was like
Oh that's JC
He's rose from the dead
Oh my God
So I'm saying metaphorically
Let me prove to you that we could do this
You don't think
No you're wrong
That the Arnie D podcast
With us as host
Can't make the same money as kickpot
Do you know what
The lack of clarity
Behind what a blue sky meeting was
Is the problem
I understand it now
Let's do a blue sky
meeting.
Yeah.
Stop with your doubting.
Angelina's got an idea that's going to fucking bring the dash.
So what do we could do?
Put your finger in my hole is what Jesus said.
You know that?
In the year?
No, in his side where he got stabbed.
You know how he got stabbed?
Put your finger in my hole.
Jesus said put your finger in my hole.
I'm pretty sure he said something like that.
Because he got stabbed when he was being crucified.
So it's all sorts of in this heightened writing.
It's like in the fellow.
said, yay, Jesus
onto him.
And then at one point,
Jesus says,
put your finger in my home.
Not that exact wording.
And then a little sting played.
Yeah.
Tom likes that.
Doubting Thomas up there.
Put your finger in my home.
What was the,
did he doubt that he had the wound?
Yeah, what was he doubting?
I don't think you've been stabbed.
And Jesus was like,
yeah, come have a look.
So, Jack, Jesus.
Put your finger in my home.
Put your video in my mind.
That's what happened.
He goes, he goes, so Jesus died, came back from the dead.
He came back.
Oh, so when he come back, yeah.
I thought you meant that while he was up on the stick.
No, no, he came, he got buried, he came back.
And then Thomas was like, I doubt that that's Jesus.
And then Jesus was like, no, come on.
Was his name dousing Thomas before then?
Was he like a dousing person?
Of course, doubting Thomas over here.
Can I ask, yeah.
I don't know.
about any of this? I have one
question. After he
put the finger in a Jesus
a hole,
did he then go,
okay, it's you, I'm sorry.
Yeah.
That's...
I don't know how this
work. I put my finger
in lots of holes. Don't make me
believe in Jesus Christ. Yeah, but if your
mate came back from the dead and you said,
that's not my mate, and they said,
remember when I got stabbed?
Yes.
Put your finger in my hole.
And then they said, put your finger in my hole.
You'd be like, well, that's a hole.
It depends on the hole.
The hole.
Which hole?
If they say up at the back hole, not the back hole.
His spear hole.
Oh, the spear hole.
The spear hole.
He had a spear hole.
This hole is different to this hole.
But that's on him for recruiting a guy named doubting Thomas.
You're absolutely right.
You're stepping your step up before failure.
Because if he was really doubting Thomas, he would say, I don't think you're Jesus.
And they'd say, well, put your finger in my hole.
So you're always.
And then he would say, and then he put his finger in the hole.
And then he's because he's doubting Thomas.
He said, I still doubt it.
Yeah.
And I reckon what happened is, I reckon first he was like, I've returned to you.
And then doubting Thomas said, I don't know.
And he's like, fucking, of course you fucking.
Of course you fucking.
And then he said, put your finger in my hole.
Well, what's the actual wording from the Bible if you could find?
I've got it here.
Oh, great, please, Tom.
So Thomas was not...
Can you please, what's the passage?
I don't have that information.
Okay, right.
But Thomas was not present when Jesus first appeared to other disciples leading to his
skepticism.
He stated, unless I see the nail marks in his hand and put my finger where the nails were,
I will not believe.
It was in a dandal.
I thought it was in a spearhole.
You said it the spear hole, eh?
Because he gave, you know how he gives it, because he wasn't dying.
The Roman stabbed him.
The Roman stabbed him.
Yes, yes.
But that Tom, he put a finger in an hole.
I always thought it was the spear hole.
I'm sorry.
But the finger did go in a hole, no?
Yeah, no, absolutely.
No one's disputing that 2,000 years ago.
Here we go.
Excuse me.
But Thomas, one of the 12, called Didimus, was not with him.
when Jesus came.
The other disciples therefore said unto him,
Didimus?
Is that a short version of doubting Thomas?
Didimus.
Didimus.
He's a contraction.
A contraction of doubting Thomas into Didimass.
Didimus.
Didimus?
I think it's Didymus.
Dounding Thomas.
Dundemus.
I don't know what this didymus is.
That's okay.
It's a blue sky meeting.
to Blue Sky Meeting.
So you don't have to know, Didimus.
Didimus.
It's okay.
It sounds like that DJ.
What's that, DJ's name?
Dead mouse.
Dead mouse.
Hey, it's Didimus.
I doubted.
I remember.
I remember.
But Thomas, one of the 12 called Didimus, was not with them when Jesus came.
The other disciples therefore said unto him, we have seen the Lord.
But he said unto them.
Except they shall see in his hand.
the print of the nails and put my finger into the print of the nails and thrust my hand into his side I will not believe
Oh
Well, I have one idea we're gonna make some money if you want to hear it's okay if you don't you want to stop this bit about Jesus is
You can talk about the D-Dimus at home
Okay, I'm coming here all day. It's a hotel drive all day
Actually, I put the $60 worth of petrol into my car.
Did you go through the tunnel?
Did you take the Westgate Link tunnel?
No, I'm too scared.
Oh, what do you mean you're too scared?
I don't know with this tunnel.
I watched the other day I watched Delate with the slash alone
and I get too scared to go in the tunnel.
My year is the same.
Weren't go through tunnels.
Yes, yeah.
I have to go around, yeah.
Too scared.
What are you talking about?
Yeah.
What happened if they go Calapia?
the both end.
What's this?
Sorry, I was just reading the Bible.
It's okay.
Got caught up in some of those ideas.
Pretty cool stuff.
You know, get scared when you go through the tunnel,
they go Calapi at the both end?
Because of the film Daylight.
Is that what you were talking about?
Yes.
Yeah, sometimes I think about the film daylight,
but then I think someone can jump in through the fans
and I'll be okay.
He did that for real, did you know?
I've not seen the film.
I've mostly worked on architecture
and fighting crime.
I'm in Go check out daylight
fucking see.
What was your idea for money?
Blue Sky Meeting, go.
So,
is to be in a podcast,
like this kick pod one
on this
Amish and the
Yeah.
Yeah.
This can be very dangerous
to be in a podcast world.
So if we go up to them
We say,
Yeah,
we protect you.
We make sure
nobody hurt you,
come around,
touch you but there every week we come we collect there sort of like
standover tactics and then if that don't pay you smash up it you fucking smash up
you're talking about payola yes and who are we doing pay all to
am shandie okay so you want you want to ring Andy and so we'll break your legs
no no no no no you go we give you
We make a show nobody
come hurt you
We take a small fee
Every week maybe 20 30%
Yeah
It's a shame that you've
It's a shame that you've
You've said this
It's a shame
Well
I was hoping for some positive representation
What's your fuck idea?
No I just want to
I'm so excited to hear your fuck idea
idea
I just think I was excited for some positive
representation
and you've pitched an underworld crime thing.
And I'm Batman, so I'm so counterfeit this.
And you had to say you had a hard time covered into Australia.
I have one more maybe idea.
Do you see that this is going to make it harder for other Italians?
That's really out of character for you there, Jack Dwayne, to say that.
Yes, yeah.
What's that?
What do you want to do?
You want to make a money here?
It's quite progressive.
Dittemus.
Dittemus?
You want to talk a Didimus.
want to make money.
I want to make money.
I want to make money.
What's your second time doing here?
Is it a house?
Maybe.
So sometimes, you know, I know one of men,
you go up and down,
you know,
in the truck.
Oh, yeah.
Some of the time,
sometimes some of the thing
put in the truck,
it to fall off.
Okay.
Oh, this is a shame.
It's full off.
Yeah.
So you take a discipline.
You're talking about workers' comp.
No, I'm just to say,
Now, he no fall off
What he carried in the truck
Sometime
Yeah
He'd go around the corner
Fall off at the back
Yeah
So it's just the city there
Nobody know
It's no big thing
You take
Make up sell it to whoever
And everything
You make is all a profit
Because none of these ideas
Sort of are on the podcast
Do you know what I mean?
But they do seem easy
They seem like an easy
way to...
It's not much work, yeah.
My only worry is
I don't know whose territory
this is.
Is that someone, can you talk to it?
Do you know who, if we're allowed to do that
in this area?
Yes.
And we are okay to do this in the area?
I think it's okay.
Is there something in burning down...
Tobacco stores, sort of rival tobacco stores
and selling illegal tobacco.
I don't know anything about this one there.
I'm just blue skying, you know, like...
On blue sky, maybe...
You say, hey, this is our turf now.
We're going to burn down your illegal tobacco store.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The chop chop chop.
So we sort of, we, we, uh, lend them the money to do the illegal tobacco and then if they don't pay us back, we burn them down or is it more of a territorial thing?
They can pay us a back in the chop chop.
Ads, ads, a sponsor?
Yes, sponsorships.
That's good.
Sponsorships.
What?
Yeah, because Kickpot has heaps of sponsorships.
Tom, do you think anyone would be up for sponsoring this?
Ah, yeah?
Like houses?
Like Metricon or...
Like home builders?
Metricon's a good idea.
Yes.
Like comic book movies.
A pizza?
Pizza?
In the pasta.
Yeah?
Crypto.
Crypto.
If we said yes to crypto and fucking sports bet, we would just make money.
Yeah.
What about that? We say yes to sports vet ads.
Okay, let's talk about that.
I have one more idea as well.
You know everyone like the music.
Yeah, yeah.
If we play little clips of us before, you know, show like Eddie Sheeran.
In the stadium, you have a, oh, 100,000 of people are there.
Okay.
You show a video of that.
I say.
Yeah.
Just this, just to talk here.
There's so many people see it there.
And then maybe, I don't know, they give you money.
Okay, yeah.
Yeah, I like that to the list.
Add that to the list.
So playing our videos before Ed Sheeran.
Yes, before it come on.
Because the screens are just sit there, they do nothing.
That's true.
Yeah, I can add that to the list.
I don't think you like this one.
No, it's blue sky.
I'll put that on the list.
list. I'll put that on the list.
Where's the list there?
Lucy's taking it down
for me.
I want to see this list.
Yeah, yeah, I'll show you the list later.
Any other ideas from you, Genev?
You know I have one idea. I'm the only one
to come up with an idea.
I said sponsorships.
Oh yeah, he did. That's a good one.
NFTs.
I don't think I like that.
I don't understand.
AI.
I prefer not to do it.
No, but AI is...
I don't want to do sports, but I don't want to do NFT.
Well, what if we do AI?
What if we incorporate AI into AI podcasting?
Kodak, Kodak started developing digital photography stopped because it would get in the way there.
We need to make the AI that makes us redundant.
No.
We are the AI of podcast.
I don't understand
We make AI of podcast
What is that
That's kind of something I've heard across every industry
People saying they've invented something
And they're just saying
When we use AI to do this
Like it's a very common thing now
For people to say
I've invented this thing
But it's essentially just using AI to do something
Does that make sense?
Yeah
But it's the future
AI is the future
Yeah, but you're not.
Yeah, but what if we do AI?
Because it's the future.
But what do you mean to do AI?
We make machine learning AI language models in the podcasting space.
And then we disrupt and make podcasts the tools.
To what end?
we are incorporating AI
machine learning
to the end of
podcasts
disrupting the space
go on the market
sell shares in Auntie Donna podcast
with the promise
of what AI will deliver
get out
before the crash
get out before the crash
this a lack of this one
Get out.
Take that money when we sell our shares and live off that.
Maybe use it to invest in the next thing that fucking idiots buy into.
Then sell shares.
Get out before the crash.
How many more podcasts do you?
Does this involve doing?
This is a podcast now.
So we can either cancel.
Stop it?
Or keep a go.
Yeah, because that's separate to doing this podcast, isn't it?
What do you mean?
What you're suggesting is technology for this industry, as opposed to, you just look at your phone?
I have to go soon, yes.
As opposed to doing this show every week.
Well, I mean, Tesla just, they've stopped making one of their main cars,
because they're moving fully into automated robots.
Yeah, and they're bad at making cars.
Yeah, they're bad at making cars and they're moving into robots now.
So...
It's nothing on the dashboard, though.
It's pretty nice.
Yeah, but more and more and more...
European Union, more and more thing,
they're talking about how dangerous it is to have touch screens
because you have to look.
There's no...
You can't feel.
And feeling a button is really important to keep it.
your eye on the road.
Teslas and big screens are causing more car accidents.
Fun fact.
This is not fun.
Okay, so that's the end of the episode.
I'll be honest with you.
I have serious doubts about the RDD podcast's ability to continue with us as the three hosts.
I have serious concerns.
GDB mentioned earlier
that we are hemorrhaging an audience with this
we have
we have never committed so wholeheartedly
