Starting point is 00:02:15 and he said, there's a line in there about your mother. And I said, what? What I would do if I didn't feel like I was being accepted is choose an identity that other people can't have. I knew something can happen to me in the middle of the night, but I couldn't hold on to what. what had happened. These are just a few of the moving and important stories on my 13th season of Family
Starting point is 00:02:36 Secrets. Listen to Family Secrets on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, everyone. Welcome back to Betts for Happy Hour. I'm Joe. And I'm Serena. And we are here today with Alex and Andrew. Welcome to the podcast.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Thank you. Thanks for having us, guys. We actually haven't interviewed you guys since. Together. No, never together. I think we, Alex, we definitely had you on during Paradise. And then you guys did the reunion. And I think you did a chat with Wells after, but we never had you guys together.
Starting point is 00:03:11 That's true. I don't think so. Once the last time you did Happy Hour, Andrew. Oh, it was definitely with Joe. I think it was like co-hosting with Joe one episode. Yes. Yeah, yeah. I was going to say, I don't think we had you on during Paradise, didn't we?
Starting point is 00:03:26 No, no. No, I was, I was. staying low under the radar or it might not it might have been like clickbait or something it might have been like clickbait click bait days were crazy oh wow that's a throwback
Starting point is 00:03:41 yeah clickbait that's what they were really letting me just say whatever I wanted that was a that was entertaining you and Natasha were throwing some out of pocket things out there yeah we really were we were having conversations where I was like
Starting point is 00:03:56 this shit doesn't even make sense but honestly if that podcast was like still going it would probably do really I loved that I used to listen to click fate when you guys were doing it together okay so uh what's uh what's happened what's new you guys uh Andrew you're in Chicago Alex you're in LA but Alex you seem to always be in Chicago um opposite I'm always in LA than she's in Chicago she's because you have a little bit more flexibility with your job whereas I have to be in person so Hence why. You're always in L.A. And the weather's a little bit nicer. This is true. This is true. We're just out there and now we're back in the cold.
Starting point is 00:04:37 So how's long distance going? What are the plans long term? Do we have plans long term? Alex, you want to take that? That's funny. I was going to say take it away. No. So, of course, long distance is doing pretty, it's going pretty well, honestly. And I enjoyed a little bit more than I expected. I thought when I first got off the show, I was like, we have to move in together by January. and then honestly I've kind of liked the being away for a little bit and then getting together I feel like it keeps the excitement and it's fun but yeah no it's doing going pretty well Andrew no to echo what she was saying like I agree I've always I love a little bit of space at the same time but it but I mean we're always on face time like let's be honest yeah and we're always face timing like even if we're not even saying anything I just like listening to her breed is usually like our
Starting point is 00:05:28 our way we end our nights and then like I will stay in California for like a month or whatever you know and we'll just get like long lapses together so it's never really like we feel like we haven't seen each other like this is the long as it's been it's going on it's going to be two weeks a week and a half
Starting point is 00:05:44 a week and a half since I haven't I know I was starting to have withdrawals I'm like that was kind of I think that was us because we did it for about eight to nine months and I would say our longest stretch was probably like around that like two and a half There was one stretch.
Starting point is 00:06:00 Yeah, that was, I think, three weeks. That was, I think, our longest stretch. Would you guys ever do, which I think would be ideal and I know it's not super easy, but when you do have flexible jobs, but would you ever do, like, part-time L.A., part-time Chicago and, like, really, like, get a place and both? Well, the thing is, is she wants to leave L.A. and New York, which is amazing because I'd rather be in New York. I want to go see you guys. I want to hang out with you guys.
Starting point is 00:06:27 Come up here. Yeah, so she wants to do New York, and I'm so on board for that. I dislike the flight to L.A. Because it is so far, and it's such a time-consuming thing. Yeah, oh. And then, like, New York is just like, I literally get on a flight for like an hour and a half, maybe even less sometimes, and you're there, boom. And it's kind of like a second home for me.
Starting point is 00:06:48 Like, I love being in New York. There's so many things there. Obviously, I have good friends there, so that's something I would rather have than, like, doing the L.A. thing. The L.A. was just too much. is the plan right now, then Alex potentially is leaving L.A., moving to New York. Andrew, you'll keep a place in Chicago, and you'll kind of keep this. No, we'll get like a place together in New York, but I'll also keep my place in Chicago.
Starting point is 00:07:12 So we'll split New York together, and I will just be back and forth between there and Chicago, which is really nice because, you know, my family's all here in Chicago, and it's, I have my mom. Eventually, the plan is to go to Chicago. I just want to experience New York while I can. before I settle down, but in Chicago. But yeah, that's the plan. And I agree. Me too. I want to do New York as well.
Starting point is 00:07:36 What's the plan with the dog? Where will he's back? Oh, my mom keeps him when I'm gone. But so for the most part, he's to the travel. I mean, we introduce them to my cat. So right now my cat is at his place and he's being a sweet cat dad. And they're like surprisingly getting closer. So I think it'll work because we're probably going to live in a shoebox.
Starting point is 00:07:56 So they're going to have to. yeah okay so you guys so let's talk a little bit about um right after the show because that's kind of when like for us at least like it works you fall in love on the show it's great then you get home and you're like is this shit really going to work like what how's this how's this going to happen so what was the moment when you guys like got home where you're like oh were this actually this has some distance in it well i think that off the jump we were just like well we have to make this work like you want you like we can't go into this and just break up right after okay we have to figure out if this is actually going to work yeah and there's a reason why we liked each other
Starting point is 00:08:41 so it's like let's try to ride that wave exactly let's build off that let's just start from scratch let's redate each other let's rehash it out a little bit um and then we got into a lot of fights in that time period where we were just like trying to figure each other out like the real us because you don't really get annoyed at each other on the show because you're just in this like honeymoon face the whole time so I think um I remember and she she got mad at me over a sandwich and like that's what I was like new and I was like okay it's never just about a sandwich Andrew what the hell happened we're getting the real juices in there and I feel like also you know it's it was a bad month period of the month you know when you're a little bit more hormones a little bit more heightened
Starting point is 00:09:19 there was context missing What did he do? Tell us, did he eat your leftovers? Like, what happened? It was just like I, and I'm trying to, that's the thing with Andrew, though. I try, for the first time, I feel like I'm trying to work on my flaws. And I think I was driving and then I wanted to eat my sandwich. And it was like getting all messy.
Starting point is 00:09:37 And I was like, well, like, you can't dry. Like, anyways, I was just, yeah, it was just one of those moments where you're not proud of looking. A little overstimulated, a little hangary, maybe a little hormonal. Serena, I get oversimulated so fast. And that's my biggest flood. when I get over stimuli, I get so mean. It's like I swear, I'm like, yeah, until I'm like, D.S. Yeah. I think those arguments, though, like, led us closer together and we started
Starting point is 00:10:00 to understand each other a little bit more. And that's when you, like, really start to know who your partner is and you start to, like, really like them because we fight and then you get over the fight and then, like, we don't go longer than, like, maybe 30 minutes mad at each other. And for the most part, they're just dumb arguments and you're never, like, aggressive or you know malicious although she does she does she does cut me
Starting point is 00:10:22 she likes to say she likes to say you're ugly when she's mad at I was a joke I'll be like you're ugly and you have a big notes wow she comes at your physical appearance
Starting point is 00:10:32 what she's angry I can't stop laughing I think it's so funny I don't know why I but that's like the running joke you're ugly and you have a big nose she says that every time
Starting point is 00:10:42 and I'm just like oh it's just hilarious yeah it's it's good Because you're too handsome that I feel like I need to humble you. That's why. And you know it. I was talking. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:52 I've talked to one of your past contestant on Paradise yesterday. And she's like, oh, he's totally a diva. And now I'm going to use that. Hey, everyone. It's me, Katie Couric. Did you know that I recently joined Substack? It's where I'll be sharing my unfiltered conversations with the people everyone's talking about. Starting point is 00:12:01 Katie Couric on Substack and hit subscribe. Hi, Dr. Lori Santos from the Happiness Lab here. It's the season of giving, which is why my podcast is partnering with Give Directly. a nonprofit that provides people in extreme poverty with the cash they need. This year, we're taking part in the Pods Fight Poverty campaign. And it's not just the Happiness Lab. Some of my favorite podcasters are also taking part. Think Jay Shetty from On Purpose, Dan Harris from 10% Happier, and Dave Desteno from How God Works, and more.
Starting point is 00:12:34 Our goal this year is to raise $1 million, which will help over 700 families in Rwanda living in extreme poverty. Here's how it works. you donate to give directly and they put that cash directly into the hands of families in need because those families know best what they need, whether it's buying livestock to fertilize their farm, paying school fees, or starting a small business. With that support, families can invest in their future and build lasting change. So join me and your favorite podcasters in the Pods Fight Poverty campaign. Head to give directly.org slash happiness lab to learn more and make a contribution.
Starting point is 00:13:09 And if you're a first-time donor, giving multiplier will even match your gift. That's give directly.org slash happiness lab to donate. On the podcast Health Stuff, we are tackling all the health questions that keep you up at night. Yes, I'm Dr. Priyanka Wally, a double board certified physician. And I'm Hurricane de Bolo, comedian and someone who once Googled, Do I have scurvy at 3 a.m? On Health Stuff, we're talking about health in a different way. It's not only about what we can do to improve our health.
Starting point is 00:13:39 but also what our health says about us and the way we're living. Like our episode where we look at diabetes. In the United States, I mean, 50% of Americans are pre-diabetic. How preventable is type 2? Extremely. Or our in-depth analysis of how incredible mangoes are. Oh, it's hard to explain to the rest of the world that you, like, your mangoes are fine because mangoes are incredible, but like, you don't even know.
Starting point is 00:14:07 You don't know. You don't know. It's going to be a fun ride, so tune in. Listen to Health Stuff on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, I'm Radhi Dvlukaya, and I am the host of a really good cry podcast. This week, I am joined by Anna Runkle, also known as the crappy childhood fairy, a creator, teacher, and guide helping people heal from the lasting emotional wounds of unsafe or chaotic childhoods. We talk about how the things we went through when we were younger can still show up in our adult lives.
Starting point is 00:14:39 in our relationships, our reactions, even in the way we feel in our own bodies. And Anna opens up about her own story, what helped her notice the patterns she was stuck in, and how she slowly started teaching her body that it is safe now. So when I got attacked, it was very random. Four guys jumped out of a car and just started beating me and my friend. And they broke my jaw on my teeth. I was unconscious. Then I woke up and I screamed.
Starting point is 00:15:03 And I screamed because even though I didn't know who I was or where I was, something in me was just like, hold on, wait. They could kill me, and I'm not going to let that happen. I'm not going to let that happen. I'm going to get through this, and I did. Listen to a really good cry on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. You know the shade is always Shadiest right here. Season 6 of the podcast Reasonably Shady with Jazele Bryan and Robin Dixon is here dropping every Monday.
Starting point is 00:15:30 As two of the founding members of the Real Housewives Potomac were giving you all the laughs, drama, and reality news you can handle. you know we don't hold back. So come be reasonable or shady with us each and every Monday. I was going through a walk in my neighborhood. Out of the blue, I see this huge sign next to somebody's house. Okay. The sign says, my neighbor is a Karen. Oh, no way.
Starting point is 00:16:03 I died laughing. I'm like, I have to know. You are lying. It's humongous, y'all. They had some time on their hands. Listen to reasonably shady from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Andrew, when you went back on, because I mean, I did Paradise twice.
Starting point is 00:16:31 Yeah. What did you think? Did you think that this was going to work? Or were you just kind of like, whatever? No, I was, uh, you know, I was kind of just hoping that, like, I just get one last opportunity at it, you know? Yeah. I was like, there's no way this has got to work, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:16:46 It's not going to happen. But you're always hopeful, like me, you know, me, me and my freaking rom-com lifestyle, I just won't let that part die out of me, and I wanted, like, this big story regardless. But, like, going in, I just, that wasn't my focus this time. I think the last time I was on Paradise, I was harping on this big, like, trying to control things that I have no control over. And I feel like once I got there, I just just was present, and Alex was present with me. And we made it work.
Starting point is 00:17:17 And I would have never thought that that was going to. I thought I was going to be out after like a week or whatever. Yeah, we all thought. Yeah. You saw that. I mean, I remember seeing that. I remember, like, when you two were in the pool, I remember. I was like, Andrew's there.
Starting point is 00:17:34 Like, he's just kind of going with the flow. Yeah, we're like, he did it. I did it, finally. And it's, like, so validating here from people, like, you know, of course I know Andrew, but I've heard from so many people who've known Andrew for so long have been on the show with Andrew, and they're just like, I can't think of, like, a better match for him. Like, I'm like, yeah, yeah, it just kind of validates, you know, how we felt and how why we love each other's company so much on the show.
Starting point is 00:17:59 Yeah, it gradually just grew, like, and it was just, like, effortless. You know, we weren't trying to, like, like I said, we were. both ready to go. I'm like, I could go right now. And then, like, something will happen. And we're like, oh, let me just stay a little longer. Like, I kind of like, you know, I'm enjoying this. And then like the more and more, and then obviously, like, the competition started happening. Well, it's more like, also,
Starting point is 00:18:19 we weren't winning any competition. I was like, I am not leaving until, like, at least win one. Like, that's embarrassing. I'm not leaving as a loser. No, I get that. I would be the same. You know what I'm saying. Yeah. Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no. Well, you won the most important one. So there you go.
Starting point is 00:18:35 That, right. We won the last one. So that's all on this thing. But no, I actually crushed that competition, too. Oh, we did. No one thought we were going to win. Yeah, so many people were like, we thought we were going to be the first one. Alex,
Starting point is 00:18:48 what were you about to say? Oh, no. I was just thinking, like, even yesterday, just talk about, like, compatibility. Like, you know, I'm a little weird and quirky, and, like, I love how he just jumps in with me. Like, yesterday I'm driving to see friends. And I'm like, let's do improv right now in the car. So we're on FaceTime, and he's, like, sets the scene. And then we start, like, he's like, we have four kids.
Starting point is 00:19:05 You're on the phone with me. You're trying to go to a meeting. and then it just turns to like me screaming like so anyways just like things like it was really funny it was a good it was a good scene and then i'm like crying in the car like you were unfaithful it was just and i'm like he like that was crazy though i was like why would you do that i wanted the emotion but just like i've never had that and someone to like match my freak i guess it's just like so fun we do that too yeah so you two are just doing improv with each other off the cuff as we're driving yeah i'm like i'm born i have an hour drive it's like
Starting point is 00:19:36 do improv like a different version of role play thank you exactly because i can't do it in the bedroom i think it's i'm too awkward i'd be like what the hell am i doing but that's like my my version of it i like that there we go i like it too that's actually hilarious something you guys can also do to spice it up uh we know we'll keep that at mind show where'd you put the sauce i think it's under there no you can't do sauce it's too close to my my real personality it needs to be something It's true. It's too real with the sauce. I can't play myself. I mean, you could.
Starting point is 00:20:12 I could, yeah, I could. I guess you could play yourself, but that kind of takes out the point of role play. It's going to be the clip that they're going to clip. So Alex and Andrew do role play. That's the name of this episode, role playing with Andrew and Alex. Andrew, you've got kind of a crazy journey because I always forget you were on the show right after me because you were on Katie's season. So we have kind of like been in this. Same timelines a little bit, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:37 Yeah, same timelines. And we obviously, you know, watched you on your first season of Paradise. I feel like this season, you definitely seemed the most just relaxed coming in. Would you agree with that? Oh, 1,000 percent. I think that's a veteran move. You feel you've been in the system a little bit, you know, you feel calm. I actually low-key felt like Joe a little bit when I was watching him.
Starting point is 00:21:02 When I was watching film, I was studying. And I was like, how do I be cool in these situations? I just channel my inner Joe. And I was like, all right, I'm just going to be cool. There was nothing cool about Joe and his first state paradise. Both Chicago guys that end up making it work with two Canadians on Bachelor of Paradise. Look at that. See, I channeled my inner Joe.
Starting point is 00:21:22 That's how I got there. You know what I mean? This is the blueprint. I needed to do this. But no, I just like, you've seen everything happen. I think when you get in these environments, it's made for you to make a mistake. for you to blow things out of proportion. And I feel like, for me, I just needed to stay level-headed
Starting point is 00:21:40 and just, like, trust, you know, myself and then trust your partner. The moment you start trusting everyone else outside, you know what I mean, and what they're saying or what someone else is saying, and you let someone get in between your relationship, that's when shit starts it. So I just try to keep us the main focus and main priority. Alex, what was, I guess, what was coming from grant season, and it was kind of like it didn't work out obviously but like what was your what were your
Starting point is 00:22:11 hesitations going into paradise were you at all yeah were you worried or were you just excited like yeah I was actually worried that I wasn't going to like anyone because I kind of had a feeler of who was going to go and I was like ooh like some people you know you hear people being like oh they would be a great match and you're like well maybe but like you know yourself and I was kind of, I was, didn't want to just go on the show to go on the show and look like I was just trying to coast. So, that was my biggest worry that I wasn't going to find anyone that was going to, you know, in like the spark. And honestly, it happened to such a good surprise, like a pleasant surprise since I, I kind of knew that Andrew was going to come. And I was like, ah, whatever.
Starting point is 00:22:52 And the fact that I saw him and like, right away else. Say that again. Say that again. A little louder, please. Oh, whatever. What? Andrew, whatever. Wait, but that has to have been so tough because your fear kind of did play out for you until Andrew showed up. Until Andrew showed up. It was exactly that. And I remember, you know, I was like, I think I'm going to leave.
Starting point is 00:23:15 There's no one here for me. Like I'm. And then, of course, they probably heard in the mic. They were like, okay, San Andrew down. And then the next thing, Andrew showed up. And I was like, oh, wait a second. And I had asked Justin, I was like, I remember this conversation at the bar. I'm like, so is your, is your friend, like, Andrew showing up?
Starting point is 00:23:30 Like, and he's like, yeah, and I'm like, is he funny? And he's like, oh, yeah. So I was like, okay, okay, we'll see. Well, I'll maybe give it another day and then, yeah. So on my, on my side, I thought on my side, I was interested in Alex, but I heard through the great fine that she was not interested in me, per se. And I was just like, oh, well, damn. like who else were they bringing down there you know what i mean i even showed Alex i have evidence producers asked me like go ahead producers asked me like who are you interested in and like the first
Starting point is 00:24:07 picture i sent was out and as i'm learning but i think it's because it's alphabetic order so i'm not going to take that as a anyways no no no so i i was like oh i'm interested in Alex and i heard that she's not really interested in like i'm not really her type and i was like okay whatever you know we'll just see what happens um we get down there and i immediately feel the vibes between us. So I'm like, okay, maybe like, this is, this is something. There's something here. Like, she kissed my neck.
Starting point is 00:24:33 You said that. You said, I don't know if it's me, but there's just like something here. And I was like, there's something between us. Like, I felt it right off the rip. And it's also, it's also, it's also fun for you. Like, for, like, it's like, oh, this is a little bit of a competition with myself. Like, this girl's kind of already put it out there that she doesn't like me. And I'm going to let her know.
Starting point is 00:24:51 She doesn't know what the fuck she's talking about. Oh, absolutely. And I like that. I love it, guys. See, and I love being the underdog. You're sick, hell. I love a dog that gets sick. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:25:01 So, like, I, yeah, we are. So I was like, okay, well, I'm going to try to get here to like me because last one I was in paradise, we were going in, both of us were like, oh, we want to see each other. Like, I like this person. I like this person. And now this was completely different for me. So, like, I had a complete opposite experience from my first time. And this was really fun.
Starting point is 00:25:21 Yeah, it was actually, it was really fun doing it. but nice do you hope that they continue the new format the new location like what would you like to see them bring back for paradise what do you think that maybe you're like i don't know if we need that again uh i just i would okay go ahead no i was sure as i think they let's go first and then and andrew goes out he's so long went did no i was just going to say if there's money now people are going to know that there's money and are they going to go there for the right reasons versus Because we didn't know. We were just kind of like, oh, by the way, it's a game show at this point.
Starting point is 00:25:55 Yeah. So it's going to be tough, I think, to have the same, same format. Hey, everyone. It's me, Katie Couric. Did you know that I recently joined Substack? It's where I'll be sharing my unfiltered conversations with the people everyone's talking about. Journalists breaking news, politicians making it, actors we can't stop watching, experts, and a few unexpected voices who just might change.
Starting point is 00:26:22 the way you see the world. I'll also share what I'm reading, what I'm watching, what's making me roll my eyes, and what's giving me hope. It's a little news, a little opinion, and yes, the occasional curse word, because let's face it, have you seen the headlines lately? So if you like smart takes, deep dives, and are also thinking, WTF is happening, search Katie Couric on Substack and hit subscribe. All of my interviews and articles are free to help everyone stay informed. But if you want to join the group chat and hear my hottest takes, well, that's for premium users only. It's going to be so much fun. I can't wait to see you there. Again, search Katie Couric on Substack and hit subscribe.
Starting point is 00:27:07 Hi, Dr. Lori Santos from the Happiness Lab here. It's the season of giving, which is why my podcast is partnering with Give Directly, a nonprofit that provides people in extreme poverty with the cash they need. This year, we're taking part in the Pods Fight Poverty campaign, and it's not just the Happiness Lab. Some of my favorite podcasters are also taking part. Think Jay Shetty from On Purpose, Dan Harris from 10% Happier, and Dave Desteno from How God Works, and more.
Starting point is 00:27:35 Our goal this year is to raise $1 million, which will help over 700 families in Rwanda living in extreme poverty. Here's how it works. You donate to give directly, and they put that cash directly into the hands of families in need. Because those families know best what they need, whether it's buying livestock to fertilize their farm, paying school fees, or starting a small business. With that support, families can invest in their future and build lasting change. So join me and your favorite podcasters in the
Starting point is 00:28:04 Pods Fight Poverty campaign. Head to givedirectly.org slash happiness lab to learn more and make a contribution. And if you're a first-time donor, giving multiplier will even match your gift. That's give directly.org slash happiness lab to donate. On the podcast Health Stuff, we are tackling all the health questions that keep you up at night. Yes, I'm Dr. Priyanka Wally, a double board certified physician. And I'm Hurricane Dibolu, a comedian and someone who once Googled, Do I have scurvy at 3 a.m? On Health Stuff, we're talking about health in a different way.
Starting point is 00:28:38 It's not only about what we can do to improve our health. But also what our health says about us and the way we're living. Like our episode where we look at diabetes. In the United States, I mean, 50% percent. of Americans are pre-diabetic. How preventable is type 2? Extremely. Or our in-depth analysis of how incredible mangoes are.
Starting point is 00:29:01 Oh, it's hard to explain to the rest of the world that, like, your mangoes are fine because mangoes are incredible, but like, you don't even know. You don't know. You don't know. It's going to be a fun ride. So tune in. Listen to health stuff on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:29:21 Hi, I'm Radhid of Luka and I am the host of a really good cry podcast. This week, I am joined by Anna Runkle, also known as the crappy childhood fairy, a creator, teacher and guide helping people heal from the lasting emotional wounds of unsafe or chaotic childhoods. We talk about how the things we went through when we were younger can still show up in our adult lives, in our relationships, our reactions, even in the way we feel in our own bodies. And Anna opens up about her own story, what helped her notice the patterns she was
Starting point is 00:29:49 stuck in and how she slowly started teaching her body that it is safe now. So when I got attacked, it was very random. Four guys jumped out of a car and just started beating me and my friend. And they broke my jaw on my teeth. I was unconscious. Then I woke up and I screamed. And I screamed because even though I didn't know who I was or where I was, something in me was just like, hold on, wait, they could kill me and I'm not going to let
Starting point is 00:30:12 that happen. I'm not going to let that happen. I'm going to get through this and I did. Listen to a really good cry on the I Heart Radio app. Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. Michael Lewis here. My book The Big Short tells the story of the buildup and burst of the U.S. housing market back in 2008. It follows a few unlikely but lucky people who saw the real estate market for the black hole it would become
Starting point is 00:30:34 and eventually made billions of dollars from that perception. It was like feeding the monster, said Eisman. We fed the monster until it blew up. The monster was exploding. Yet on the streets of Manhattan, There was no sign anything important had just happened. Now, 15 years after the Big Short's original release, and a decade after it became an Academy Award-winning movie, I've recorded an audiobook edition for the very first time.
Starting point is 00:31:03 The Big Short Story, what it means when people start betting against the market, and who really pays for an unchecked financial system, is as relevant today as it's ever been, offering invaluable insight into the current economy and also today's politics. Get the big short now at pushkin.fm slash audiobooks or wherever audiobooks are sold. Andrew, what do you think? I love the games. I thought that was interactive. It was something for us to get together and bond over and have some substance.
Starting point is 00:31:40 You know how it is on the beach. You don't do anything in the first one. You just laid around and then you waited for someone to come down with a day card. That is so boring. and bad. They would throw us on that middle day bed, that big one. Everyone collects there. Someone's on their way. You wait for 45 minutes.
Starting point is 00:31:57 You cannot pee. Yeah, we would just be like we're we yeah we just do nothing. Yeah. So that was the part I would I would keep. The one thing I would love I loved about Paradise is the love story like what love story you guys had like how it grab it like you saw it
Starting point is 00:32:17 build. They didn't do that with this one they focused more on like drama whatever they can like drama's always going to be a part of it we love that but like don't forget about your romance like the one thing that people do want to see is like connections forming and lastly I would say is like I think the Golden's
Starting point is 00:32:33 I think they need their own paradise I think that is something that they need to do is they need to be separate because I'm saying if we put more people on that season that we were just on I'm telling you that there's no way that's not the number one show in the summer because you're bringing in you're putting
Starting point is 00:32:49 everyone in a bind like when I came down that caused like a rip like a ripple as long as as as well as Susie like Susie's name went on for the longest like you keep bringing people down like that I can see it but also love the fact that we got to build more in more time I just think that yeah we didn't have enough people enough like and they didn't stay on long enough I think I think the people were getting shut down or getting kicked off too early I would that's the only thing would change. I agree. I think what I would change is I think people were getting kicked off. I think people need a chance to be there a little longer. And they were sending a lot of people home at time just so fast like you weren't even able to get in like a triangle. You know what I mean? You didn't
Starting point is 00:33:33 get to see anything play out. Yeah. And I felt like there was a lot of contestants I would have loved to see at the beach that didn't just because there wasn't time for that because you were really only doing half of a regular Paradise season. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Exactly. And I don't like I like the campiness of the first paradise of us of all the guys living together i don't like like two guys in one room two guys another i like having the ability for you guys to end up in each other's rooms i think that added to the relationship that is exactly why we yeah i like that's like the fact that people were like having sleepovers with their partner i think was really fun and made it feel a little more real because i think you guys dove deeper into your relationships yeah absolutely and you get
Starting point is 00:34:17 to talk, have those conversations, yeah, at night, like, when you're, like, you know, before bed and you're both on your pillows and those were, like, the fun conversations. Yeah, those are nice. Well, I think put us up, put everyone together instead of, instead of, instead of, well, instead of, no, that's giving orgy then. I don't think you realize what's happening in the bedrooms. Yeah, I guess, I guess, I guess that is, I guess that is having an orgy in here. And then you that is, uh, no. No. Okay, let's, uh, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, don't hate the boom boom room. I just think that they made it. weird like they made it like a oh boomoo they're just going like no maybe we just want to sleep together and like hang out and say like like like if they would just yeah yeah yeah i mean you're gonna do that but like you just take that focus off of that and just make it just like all right there's there's designated rooms for if you guys want to sleep together go do that and if you want to film those
Starting point is 00:35:06 obviously make sure they're not you know whatever did you guys go to the like you don't have to tell you no we didn't okay we didn't see i wouldn't have gone either because i would have not want people to think that yeah so at least this no one knew and you know gave us more time anyways okay i also really liked the palco footage from the bedrooms i know like some people might have felt a little excited by those but as a viewer i was like this is so entertaining for me and you really got to see people's like perspectives and personalities i thought it was such a good addition i would say that was the most entertaining part yeah every time i saw pelko footage i was like yes you thought you were free you were like
Starting point is 00:35:43 oh there are no cameras in here like a lot of you heard a lot of secrets being told in those bedrooms i'm just like this is good tv like i would just extend it always to the bedrooms yeah yeah yeah yeah that we didn't really have before because of the way like the lao was i feel like the layout the venue that's true um pivoting away real quick from paradise um holiday season rom-coms andrew you're a rom-com guy oh for sure get give me uh give me your top three both of you of all time that's so hard uh i mean like it's okay yes of all time but like are we talking about okay okay so rom give us a letterbox moment i will tell you i'll give you one that's that's really good right now
Starting point is 00:36:27 you should go see i would go see eternity i think eternity i'm dying to see that is that eternity it will be a movie that'll go down as one of the best because it's it's deep but also has that comedic relief and then there's just good characters in that and that's the one with miles teller yes Miles Teller. Yeah, that looks good. Elizabeth Smart. Elizabeth Olson. Elizabeth, Olson, yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:52 Yeah, and then the Calum dude or Collum. Yes. Callum Turner. Yes. Yes. Such a cutie. What he's dating, Doolipa. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:01 Yeah. Yeah. He's good actor. They're all cute. I can't wait to see that. Even like the, oh my gosh, the other two characters that play like their guides in the trailer. Yes. Oh, so good.
Starting point is 00:37:13 And you always got to have good, like, supporting cast. And I think they crushed it. I mean, I'm going to tell you the premise of it real quick. It's just like, imagine like you married someone or you fell in love with someone and maybe they passed earlier than you. And then you had to marry someone else. So basically you go to heaven and your first husband is waiting for you because he's like, that was the love of my life. I'm waiting for her. But you have created this whole life and kids with another person.
Starting point is 00:37:39 And like, who do you choose to live eternity with? You know what I mean? You can't live with both of them. You got to pick. I know the premise I know the premise I know the well now our listeners do too
Starting point is 00:37:51 and they should go see it but not the listeners no but yeah I really want to I want to see it I think the premise is great Alex how about you do you have we'll just use that for Andrews forget my top three thing
Starting point is 00:38:03 like holiday yeah what's your wreck for like a rom-com that people can go watch over the holidays so I'm not a big rom-com gal I will be honest what do you love i'm like a super old school i'm like creature of habit grinch grinch grinch great we love grinch um so yeah if you guys have the opportunity to go see brinch go see grinch
Starting point is 00:38:23 have you ever seen punch drunk love i think everyone can go see the grinch no by the way before you know grinch is back in theater actually oh it is i think in chicago the jim carrie one or the no no jim carrie the original yeah um i feel like ellix yeah i feel like elix you would really enjoy punch drunk love. Why? Because you're because you're, you're, you're, you're a little more eccentric and I think it's a great. She just said the Grinch. That's true. That's true. I think maybe it's more of an Andrew film respectfully. I think Andrew will like it too. Alice
Starting point is 00:38:59 cosplays artsy. Like I'm going to tell you that. That's the thing. I know. People think my tattoos and like I'm a little bit quirky thinking, people are like, oh, she super like experimental I'm like she watches monsters ink like yeah don't watch punch drunk love then we just watch it it's very intense is like an intense movie it's very intense
Starting point is 00:39:20 I like a psychological thriller I love like black mirror and like things that make you think is that kind of no it's like have you seen uncut gems it's an Adam Sandler movie and it's probably more aligned with that tone oh then no Joe I don't think I'll like but Hamann my sister just went and saw that and she was like
Starting point is 00:39:38 this movie is bringing me back to wanting to see movies. And she was like, she's like it was so powerful. That and Jay Kelly that's on Netflix, I thought Hamnet and Jay Kelly two movies I cried in. I haven't cried in a movie a lot of times. Oh my dad
Starting point is 00:39:53 just watched Jay Kelly. I heard bad reviews on Jay Kelly. Wait, Jay Kelly's the Adam Sandler. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. My dad was like, it's a tough watch in the sense. It's very intense, but like great actors. Yes. Yes. It was so good. It was good. I like. All right. All right, let's jump off of this random movie chat
Starting point is 00:40:11 Why don't we wrap up by you guys telling us what you're going to be doing for the holidays? Do you want to take this, babe? All right. Well, she's getting in on Saturday.
Starting point is 00:40:24 No, Friday. So I bought my flight. So that's one thing, though, I will say, with our relationship because we're both, and I know you don't like to hear it. We're very disorganized. So I buy my, like, sometimes lack of communication.
Starting point is 00:40:35 I buy my flight Saturday. Then he's like, no, there's a bear game Saturday. You're going to miss it. So then I was like, well, I just paid for my ticket already that I had a coupon for or a credit because you also told me to cancel another flight. Anyways, so basically I said, okay, if you want to take that flight and buy it, sure. So I'm leaving Friday, babe, not Saturday. Yes, okay, that's correct. You're getting, but you are getting in Saturday at 148 a.m.
Starting point is 00:40:56 So technically I was right. Anyway, but no, no, no, she's getting in and we're going to, I have my Christmas party I'm throwing. I decided to start throwing like a family Christmas party. I love that. That's so fun. So I invite all my family. They're coming up. I created this new game called Ultimate Influencer because they always talk shit about what I do.
Starting point is 00:41:18 So I'm like, all right, I'm going to put you to test. I'm going to get you a brief and you have to figure out how to whatever. Fun. Oh, yeah. No, it's going to be so good. Oh, my gosh. I'm excited. I can't wait to hear about how this goes.
Starting point is 00:41:30 And then we have the Bears game, which is going to be super exciting. first Packers Alex's first like game in Chicago They better They cannot lose this game They cannot lose this game They cannot lose this game This is very important
Starting point is 00:41:45 Yeah it's very important And then we have New Year's We're doing Portafina Pizzeria Pizzeria Portafino On the river where they're doing this new ball drop thing In Chicago and fireworks So we're doing that And then we're heading to Touloum for a hang out with her friends
Starting point is 00:42:01 So that is the hard We're going to be in Chicago for a couple days around New Year's. So we'll hit you out. Let us know. Let us know. We'll kick you again. Andrew was like, oh, I can't. You shouldn't say.
Starting point is 00:42:13 I was going to say last time. He was like, where were you the whole night? You were, I didn't see you all night. You were with Serena the whole night. Didn't he see you once? We were, anyways. I know. You guys were watching.
Starting point is 00:42:23 You guys have been sitting on this couch talking for two and a half hours. And I can't tell you what we talked about. But anyways. It was so fun though. You were nodding and you would look at me like. And then I was like, what the hell we got talking about? You're right. Diva.
Starting point is 00:42:37 I'm kidding. All right. We will let you guys go. Thank you so much for coming on. We love you guys. We're so happy for you guys. And we'll see you soon. Right, right.
