This is an I-Heart podcast.
I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the psychology podcast.
Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about how to be a better you.
When you think about emotion regulation, you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy
which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome.
Avoidance is easier.
Ignoring is easier.
Denials easier.
Complex problem solving takes effort.
Listen to the psychology podcast on the.
iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hi, my name is Enya Eumanzor.
And I'm Drew Phillips.
And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom.
If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you.
But if you have unmedicated ADHD...
Oh my God, perfect.
And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble.
Yes, yes.
Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you.
Open your free iHeartRadio app, search emergency internetcom, and listen now.
I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different.
What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club?
Answer, a new podcast called Wisecrack,
where a comedian finds himself at the center of a chilling true crime story.
Does anyone know what show they've come to see?
It's a story.
It's about the scariest night of my life.
This is Wisecrack, available now.
Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
What's up Happy Hour listeners? I'm one of your hosts, Becca Kufrin.
And I'm Michelle Young. And you are listening to Bachelor Happy Hour exclusively on Wondery Plus.
Yes, we are so happy to be here with you. And I'm excited because Becca today, we're answering fan questions.
And we do have some fun ones. So should we get right to it?
apps a positively tootly yes these are always my favorite episodes honestly they are i love i just
love hearing these questions some of them are so good um let's just take it away we have a couple
here that you have either dm'd us about or email us about so let's start with this first one
michel what is your go-to bachelor watch party snack or cocktail or both oh okay so i'd say my
favorite snack would probably have to be. I don't know if this is a Minnesota thing, but you take
like chips and you melt cheese on top of it. Like you take like a little shred of cheese melt on
top of it and then you have salsa on the side. Oh, hell yeah. And it's just like chips and cheese
and salsa. It's like ate all the time growing up. My dad would make it all the time when we'd
watch like movies and stuff. So that's definitely like my weekly snack. Do you do it with Doritos and
like make them extra cheesy? Honestly, I've never done it with Doritos.
Michelle, you have to. Try it this next week.
Okay, really? But like, I'm dipping it in salsa, Doritos, cheese and dipped in salsa.
Extra seasoning. It's so good. That's what we grew up eating too. Oh, my gosh. And, like, if you get the cheese, like, extra cheesy crispy, it's so much better.
Ooh. Okay, I'll have to try that. What's your cocktail?
And then my cocktail would honestly, probably either, like, if I'm drinking wine or some type of, like, margarita, but I've been going,
healthy lately, as you could tell about my snack choice. So it's honestly just been like some
type of like water with limon. Wow, you are the epitome of health. Hey, look at me. How about you?
Go to snack. Go to snack. Oh man, I'm just such a snacker. I will literally eat anything.
um lately i have been on a extra toasty cheese it binge i am obsessed with the extra toasties still i got
hooked when i was on tour yeah and i just need like something to crunch on so i just like those yeah
i don't know what it is um i probably should be like eating carrots or something but at least
cheese that's or orange too um and then cocktail i would say well everyone knows i love one
I love the bubbles. So I'm usually always drinking my wine line, Bordone. For those of you who
haven't heard of it, you can buy it at Bordone.com, drink Bordone. But yeah, I just, I always just have the
bubbles. I don't know. It's just, it's like my go-to. It's me. Have you ever had the, I think it's
made by health aid kombucha. And like for anyone who's on like a health kick and like doesn't
want to drink wine during the week or is like on that whatever, whatever 30,
day challenge thing that you can't have alcohol. Health Aid makes a rosé kombucha. And if you
pour it in a wine glass, it is perfect. Like it's amazing. That sounds delicious. But let me ask you this
with kombucha, because it's tea, does it keep you up at night with the caffeine? No, it doesn't.
I don't know. I'm very caffeine sensitive and so I don't, like I haven't had any issues with it.
I don't even know how many milligrams of caffeine actually has in it.
As I say, I'm caffeine sensitive and I'm like drinking Celsius and like shaking to death, but no.
Okay.
Maybe I'll give it a go.
But yeah, I cannot sleep at night if I have like any sort of tea.
Obviously, can't do coffee past like 1 p.m.
But that sounds delicious.
So I'll talk up.
I'll look up and I'll get back to you.
Okay.
Thank you, Michelle.
So you have now been living in L.A. for about a month.
How is that going?
Like, are you feeling settled?
Have you had any highlights, low lights?
You say that I've been living in L.A. for a month.
And I think I've maybe spent a total of, like, six full days in L.A.
With all the traveling.
That's true.
During that time, I have gotten, like, everything set up.
So, like, I'm in Becca's old house.
And so it's been so nice to have, like, all the essentials there.
And now I'm, like, getting to the point where,
like I'm going to start doing a little bit of decorating.
And it's been like putting together furniture and like stands and like ordering a dinner table and things like that.
And so I'm like really starting to feel like it's becoming home now.
But it's been it's just, I don't know, it's nice.
And I've door dashed way too much already because I don't have my car yet.
My car and my dog are going to be coming like at the end of the month.
and so yeah
DoorDash has been pretty
insane but I've had a lot of really good food
good there are so many good spots
where you are I mean
yeah like you're right well I'm not going to give names
but there are so many
I'll have to send you a list of recommendations too
but yeah I'm so happy you're enjoying it
I've never felt like such a landlord in my life
like Michelle will call me and be like
the ACs out or like what about this
and I'm like I don't know this isn't
not anything I've ever had to deal with because if I'm being completely honest, Michelle,
so I bought the house. I closed. I was literally in the process of buying that house when I was in
Paradise last year. So like that's what I thought. One of like the producers every now and again would
pull me out of like a group chat or an interview and be like, hi, um, your realtor's calling you or
your broker's calling you. You have to sign these documents. So the day I left Paradise was the day
I officially closed on the house that you're living in, but I, right after that, got back together
with Thomas and we were like back and forth between my place and San Diego that you've probably
been in that house about the same amount of time that I, like, actually formerly, probably lived in it.
And so it's so funny. Thomas made that comment the other day. He's like, Michelle has been in that
house probably just as long as you have. And I'm like, yeah, you're right. That is so funny.
I, yeah, I love it. And I, so it's like a two-bedroom.
two and a half bath in the second bedroom it has one of like you know like that murphy bed
for like all the listeners it has like the murphy bed that can fold down and up but i've made that
like my podcasting slash styling room and so like i have one of those cart um the wardrobe racks
wardrobe racks thank you that has like all of my dresses for like these events coming up and
i have like a large mirror in there and i have my desk and then like my heels and like
stylist will come in and set up like all the shoes that I need to like try on for like these like
carpet events and stuff. So it's like I'm I'm loving having that second room as like my
little personal closet. I love that. Will you please take videos or send photos because I never I
never even got around to doing that. But I want to see like the difference of how you now decorate
and style everything versus what the bones that I had when I was there. Absolutely. Yes.
I'm planning on making some like take talks with it too.
So I'll definitely get that.
I want to add, okay.
So you just mentioned that you have all these red carpets and appearances coming up.
Please tell me because when I, I like haven't done that many just because I don't say yes to a lot of stuff because I just find those exhausting.
Do you thrive off of that or like how do you feel about always doing red carpets, appearances like being so like lively out and about?
I am so extroverted that I get my energy.
Like, I almost recharge when I'm around people.
I will say, though, that this show has made me become a little more introverted just because every time you're out and about, you kind of feel like you have to be on.
And so that's hard as well.
But I definitely get tired of, like, wearing makeup and dresses and things like that.
But I also, for me, it's kind of like a mindset thing.
I really embrace like these experiences of, you know, like you don't get to do this stuff.
And it's like it's not the fact that like, you know, I've changed or I want to, you know, be a part of this life more than my old life.
It's just more of like it is a cool experience and like when else do you get to do this stuff.
But I will also say I definitely get tired.
Yeah.
Like it's a lot because there's so many hours that get put in.
to like finding a dress and you have to make sure your nails are done or not done.
Like I literally like I have like half of my nails on and then I had to like stick other nails
on because I didn't have time and then half my nails are broken.
So I'm like walking the right carpet with broken nails.
You're like to look at my hands.
Let me wear something with pockets.
Right?
But it's just like it's a lot.
It's like hair, makeup, everything.
So it's like it's probably going to be a minute until I do my next event or so.
But we'll have to go.
We'll have to go together.
It's nice when you can go with, like, people that you know.
Oh, yeah.
Never on your own.
Right.
I just thought it's fun, yeah.
Well, okay, let's ask this.
And how about it's like favorite place from somebody else's season that you wish you could have gone to?
Favorite place from somebody else's season?
Anywhere.
Literally anywhere.
I'm like, that is one thing that I feel like not, I guess, envious isn't.
correct word maybe i don't know but just like missing it by this much to like getting to travel
the world and i think back you and i have spoken about this like nebucholin pennsylvania
california indian wells Minnesota and mexico it's like damn and then you know you see all
these like Paris and all these beautiful places so i don't know anywhere anywhere anywhere
anywhere. What about you? Well, I think it was on. So I didn't, I started watching the show on and off.
Like I would watch it in college with my roommates because they loved the show. And then like once I
moved out, I stopped watching it. So it's like so on and off. And I think it was Emily Maynard's season.
I believe where she went to St. Lucia. And it looked so beautiful.
And I just remember, like, seeing a part where I think she was doing some B-roll and, like, walked out of her hotel room and, like, the beautiful mountains are just in the back.
So I've always wanted to go to St. Lucia.
That, like, has been on my bucket list travel place because just from that.
And again, like, I could be wrong.
I think it was her season.
I'm sure everyone will correct me very shortly if this is a different season.
But, yeah, St. Lucia definitely is on that list.
Has anyone?
Has anyone, do you remember, has anyone traveled to Switzerland during their season?
I don't know.
That's like my place.
That's my place that I've been eyeing to travel to next.
I was curious.
I think Rachel might have.
I could be wrong too.
I think Rachel Lindsay may have traveled to Geneva.
But, okay, what?
Oh, ooh, okay, wait, this question.
So somebody asked, Becca, if you could set Michelle,
up with anyone from badger nation who would it be okay oh wow this is interesting um
this is funny honestly no one um thank you thank you i would say no one
but only because i know you and like i have i have some people who like i consider brother
and close friends in this world that I've like done the tour with who I absolutely adore but I
don't know if they would be a fit for you. So I would personally rather set you up with somebody
that's like maybe a cousin of Thomas's so then we can basically be family one day if it all
worked out. It sounds like you're scheming. Okay. I'm going to be open to that. Yeah, that that
answers the next question if I would ever go to Bachelor in Paradise. Like there'd have to be
There's just, like, nobody that I'm interested in right now.
Well, and that's okay.
There doesn't need to be.
And then, like, you went through a breakup, a very public one at that.
You just need some time on your own to date or not date on your own.
But I will say, if you ever did consider going on Paradise, I mean, when I did it,
I was a few years removed from my season.
Yeah.
Which I think helped because I was.
literally went in and I don't like this is going to sound bad not giving the fuck and like not
caring and just like not having any expectations I went in being like some of my girlfriends
are going to be on that beach some of my best friends who are the producers are there it's going to
be great food like I went in with zero expectation of like finding a partner so I feel like
and also it took time for me to get there like it wasn't like it took me a hot second and so
You could get there one day, who knows?
If you do, I would fully support you.
I would never say that, like, I would never close the door.
Like, I joke about closing the door, but, like, potentially in the future, possibly, if I was called up right now, I'd be like, no.
Because you also know everybody, okay, you don't know everybody to extent, but you know who's in Bachelor Nation.
and it's also like everybody most recent you know how everybody gets off the season I feel like at least for the guys anyways I feel like the guys go through this phase is they get off the season everybody's out clubbing everybody's out enjoying the like the new attention that they're getting and it's like I don't want that like I don't you know what I mean like it call it a phase whatever it is get it out of your system like that's
totally fine. There's nothing wrong with that. I just don't think it's that that's the right
time for someone to like choose to settle down. I don't see any beating bachelor nation. That's like,
you know. And that's okay. Honestly, like take it from somebody who went in, not having any
expectations. I ended up meeting my fiancee from Paradise, which I never, ever, ever would
have thought. Like, I never thought I was going on Paradise to begin with. But the fact that like I,
found Thomas through that.
Like, you never know who will surprise you.
It is funny because I was walking on a red carpet.
Someone asked me the same question.
Would you ever go on Bachelor in Paradise?
And, like, without even missing a beat, I was like, hell no.
And then I was like, but it did work for Becca and Thomas.
So I like, I can understand that.
I went immediately to you guys.
And I learned I should never say no because every time I say like shut the door,
hell no, definitely not happening.
The opposite always ends up happening some way somehow.
So I'm like, I just have to stop saying no.
So I'm just trying to reverse psychology life right now
So then I can just hurry up and find my person
Yeah, that's what's happening
Well, all in good time, Michelle, all in good time
You are enjoying your single life in L.A.
Like there's so much fun things happen
So many fun things. Oh, wow, I cannot speak.
What are words right now?
There's so many fun things happening for you.
So just focus on you for a little bit, travel, have fun,
Like soak everything in and, you know, all in good time.
Exactly.
When you're not looking, that's when it all takes place.
I feel like. Yes, a thousand percent. Okay, Becca, next question for you. Do you have a guilty
pleasure? I have a thousand guilty pleasures. Yes. Yes, I do. I would say my guilty pleasure,
I don't even like know if this is guilty. I mean, and this is no shock. I'm obsessed with true
crime. Obsessed. Like, Crime Chunky Podcasts, I love crime documentaries. Like,
the Dahmer documentary gets me like I I just started it it was oh what episode are you on
just started it just like season episode one today this morning have fun text me all about it when
you're watching it it's freaking wild wild but that is definitely my guilty pleasure like I know
too much about serial killers it's like my mom actually yells at me to be like you shouldn't know this much
But I just like, yeah, it's just, so I would say that's one of my guilty pleasures.
What about yours?
Okay, we are very similar in this.
It's because I have so much to say, yes, crime.
It's so fascinating.
But do you ever catch yourself, before I tell you my other guilty pleasures,
do you ever catch yourself, like you'll be driving or you're like walk into a restroom
at like a rest stop or at a gas station and like somebody else walks in and because you're so
used to like watching all this crime stuff like you make note of like they're wearing like a red
collared shirt and like these types of shoes so that like at this time and yes okay listen crime junkies
101 be weird be rude and stay alive and pay attention to detail oh all the time now and
that's like i think like i think some people obviously
get very creeped out by it. But like I also want to know what I'm up against and like I want to
learn from things in the past. So I'm, every time I walk me in or Leo now, I always only have
one earbud in. I need to make sure I can like listen behind me. Take note of everything. Like yeah.
Oh yeah. I'm like if I ever need to like make a call, I will give you height, weight, tentative age,
what color I somebody had like anything. I. Yes. Anything. Always. Always. Always on alert.
Right. I feel like I had another guilty pleasure that I was thinking about the other day that I was like, ooh, this is definitely something I shouldn't admit, but now I can't even remember what it is. A guilty pleasure. I'm trying to think of one outside of the crime. I mean, mine is very much just like probably junk food. Yeah. Like I'm very, very healthy, but like I go in junk food phases of like right now mine's like donuts. So yeah. Like I have. I have.
I love it.
That's not even guilty.
That's just a pleasure.
That's not even, I don't know.
I don't feel guilty about it.
I just eat it.
I'm like, cool.
I, well, everyone knows, mine is Chipotle.
I literally go to Chipotle every single day.
We haven't done a Chipotle check in in a while.
Have you been like?
I'm paying rent at Chipotle.
I'm always there.
Every single day.
Every single day.
Thomas night, because, yeah, because I got that card.
We are there all the time.
They know us like by name and order now.
lovely i might as well just work here but that's you don't need to because you have a gold card now
i know but i kind of love it like i would like to leave work smelling like jipoli in my hair you know
it's a good scent oof i'm just going to say you're about to come up with like a jipoli they do
have a jopo candle actually do they yeah i might have to send it to you i don't know what
it smells like but ryan ryan claytor she sent it she sent a picture to me and she's like
I feel like this is something that you would get, Michelle.
And I was like, I'll have to send this to Becca.
Oh, my gosh.
Yes.
If it smells like an actual chicken burrito, sign me up.
That would be wild.
Or like the lime, cilantro, rice or something like that.
Anything.
I just, it smells like heaven when I walk in.
Okay.
Michelle, do you have a worst date story?
And it can be from the show or just like personally dating?
Ooh. A worst date story. I think. I'm not going to pick one from the show. I would say, okay, so my worst date story, it's nothing like necessarily crazy. But it was right after college. Like I had graduated. I had been in a relationship a lot of my like college experience or whatever, like for like three years. And so I just got out of college.
I played sports in college, so I, like, really didn't, like, party or get to do, like, all those
social things or whatever. And so, like, afterwards, like, that time where I was, you know,
transitioning into, you know, going into education, it was the summer. So it's not like I could
get a job right off the bat. I had to wait a little bit. But I had, like, started dating. And it was
just really, really weird. And I went on this first date with this.
guy from Minnesota and we went out to eat. It was, I can't even, we went out to, shoot, what is it
called? W.A. Frost, I think is what it's called. It's like downtown somewhere.
Okay. Super cute patio was like fine. You know, I kind of already like figured that I wouldn't
be going on a second date. Like did nothing wrong, was a good looking guy. I think he was like
six, seven, like super tall, athletic, all this other stuff.
But he was like a yes man, meaning that like everything I said, like he would just like
mold into that.
And so like he wasn't opinionated or was just like trying to connect so much that he had like
no opinions of himself.
And then when we were finished, it was like one of those situations where he forgot his
wallet, which is fine, right?
But he forgot his wallet.
We came outside.
Like his car ended up like breaking down, but it was a nice car.
So it was just like this uncomfortable situation.
And then by the time he dropped me off, he like was trying to come inside, trying to come inside, trying to come inside.
And I was like, sorry.
Like I just like I was just so uncomfortable.
Yeah.
And then he ended up like saying.
how he's never felt this way before.
And, like, he said, I love you.
Wait, what?
He said, I love you.
Did he just casually drop that at the end of the conversation?
Like, good night, I love you.
No, no.
He was talking to me, like, before.
And, like, my foot was, like, my body was already halfway out the door of the car.
Like, I'm ready to go.
Like, you know what I mean?
Like, I get, I get, not even the ick, but, like, I don't open up very well.
Read the room, sir.
Right.
And I'm just like, I get really uncomfortable.
Like once I know I don't like somebody and if they're like coming on to me, I'm like, oh, like I'm like, peace out.
They love you.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And he was like, honestly, Michelle, he's like, we had such great conversation.
And, you know, like, I feel so comfortable around you.
And it's just so odd.
And I just like, I'm really into your energy.
And like, which is like, oh, wonderful.
I mean, like, the date wasn't horrible.
But, but, but, yeah.
And he's like, I'm, I've never felt this way before.
And, like, I needed to, like, pause for a second.
Like, I have gone through a lot in my life.
Like, I know what I want.
And then, yeah, he said, I really, really think that, like, I really think I know what this is.
And I was just like, huh?
He was like, I really do think that, like, I believe in love at first sight.
And I think that, like, I'm starting to fall in love.
I was like, let me ask you this now.
Have you ever grouped on him on Instagram?
like is he now engaged or married or like does he just move really fast like have you do you know what is up with this man in his life no not no not anymore but it got to the point where like I had to block him from texting me my dad my dad had to like I told him like I'm I'm this is making me really uncomfortable like I'm not there like I just you know tried to like let him down nicely and he sent these texts about like the balls in your court like I'll wait for you to be ready to date my dad my dad
Dad, I had to tell my dad, my dad almost had to get on the phone with him and tell him to, like, leave me alone because he, like, wouldn't back off.
Can you imagine if he would have stepped out of the limo on your season?
Peace out.
No, I mean, I would have told him next, get back in.
I would have been like, nope, absolutely.
Yeah, no, it was read the room.
You know, when someone's uncomfortable, like, if a girl is saying, I'm physically uncomfortable with this.
Yeah, yikes, okay.
Wait, do you have a worst state story?
Do you have an embarrassing story?
please tell me oh i have so many bad date stories where do i be like i don't even know what one to pick
um okay there's one though that really sticks out and this was before everyone on the show i think
i was 25 and i went on a date with my so my name one of my best friends was living in an apartment
building at the time and we met her neighbor because this guy came by to like borrow a vacuum
when i was there one day and i was like oh he's kind of cute and she ended up giving him my number later
on so we went on a date but it started off because so he had texted me we planned like the day and time
and location to meet great right before that he was like hey uh i don't remember what happened like
you didn't have a car and so he's like can you come pick me up and i'm like sure that's fine whatever
so pick him up we go to wherever we're eating dinner and um it was so bad it was so bad he was
the type of guy that would not ask questions about you. He would just talk about himself. But he was also
a finger licker. So like, oh, so he would eat his food and then lick his fingers. And I'm like,
there are napkins for it. And it was so loud. And to top it all off, he ended up FaceTiming his sister.
Like, I went to the bathroom really quick, came back and he was facetiming his sister, which is one thing.
Like, I was gone. But then, like, he continued to stay.
on the phone with his sister
for well after I sat down
and was like still on this date with him.
What was he talking about with his sister?
Was it like one of those situations?
I know people are on the phone
and they want people to hear them talk.
No, Michelle, I know exactly.
Do you, this is what he was talking about.
The questions, when I sat back down,
he was talking to his sister about
if she eats ice cream
doesn't make her cough.
Like does eating cold foods
make you cough and I'm just like this does not need to happen right now but whatever I was it
I wanted to hear what you can say but I was just like this is not it so end of the date drop him off
again I'm like not into him he was like do you want to go grab a nightcap somewhere I was like nope
I'll bring you back by bring him drop him off at the front of his building and he leans over
and tries to grab the back of my head for a kiss and I was like uh-uh I was like I am not
feeling in this no can do buddy so he got the hint he left the next day he texted me to be
like i had fun want to go on another date and by this point i think it was like a friday so i was
going out with some of my girlfriends who happened to be who like in the building that he lives
with my friends and so we all go out and apparently we're at one bar bar louis i think it's
close in minneapolis now we're on bar louis and he had ended up texting one of my friends who was
his neighbor to be like, hey, where are you guys at tonight? I'm going to come meet up with you. And so I
rounded the corner and see him walking there. And I'm like, nope. And I book it. I was like,
we're going to do another bar. So we ended up just leaving. I was like, no, this guy is not it for me.
Some of the stories he was telling me about his clients, though, were so disgusting. I was like,
you should never tell anyone this. You should not even be representing these people. But like,
you should not. Now I'm really curious. So like off record, you might have to tell me. I'll tell you
