This is an I-Heart podcast.
I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the psychology podcast.
Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about how to be a better you.
When you think about emotion regulation, you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy
which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome.
Avoidance is easier.
Ignoring is easier.
Denials easier.
Complex problem solving takes effort.
Listen to the psychology podcast on the.

I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different.
What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club?
Answer, a new podcast called Wisecrack, where a comedian finds himself at the center of a chilling true crime story.
Does anyone know what show they've come to see?
It's a story.
It's about the scariest night of my life.
This is Wisecrack, available now.
Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
When your car is making a strange noise, no matter what it is, you can't just pretend it's not happening.
That's an interesting sound.
It's like your mental health.
If you're struggling and feeling overwhelmed, it's important to do something about it.
It can be as simple as talking to someone, or just taking a deep, calming breath to ground yourself.
Because once you start to address the problem, you can be a simple.
go so much further. The Huntsman Mental Health Institute and the Ad Council have resources
available for you at loveyourmindtay.org. Welcome back, happy hour listeners. Of course, I got my
girl Michelle with me once again, and I'm so excited to catch up with you. Yes, it's so great to be back
this week for some girl chat with you. And speaking of girl chats, today we're going to be
joined by Ali Yost of TikTok, fame, and girly pop podcast. I'm so
excited. It'll be fun to have Allie on. She's just such a badass. She's all about female
empowerment. She just launched a new podcast on her own. So it's going to be fun to catch up with
her. But before that, Michelle, I got to catch up with you because I haven't chatted with you in a
week. I know. Okay, but first, Becca. Yes. Happy belated birthday. Oh, thank you. We need to
talk about your celebrations. Today we're starting with you. Um, chicken nugget.
cake. That's all I'm going to say. Chicken nugget cake. Tell us about it. I, well, okay, so that was the
best surprise. I gave up sweets for Lent, and so I obviously can't have a real cake. And they, like my
tour team and the dancers and Thomas obviously know me far too well. So instead of an actual
cake for the birthday, they came out with this spectacular chicken nugget bouquet cake.
that was just incredible. It had all of the chicken nuggets like on like skewers and then just all of
the sauces down below. And so I was living on chicken nuggets for like a good 24 hours. It was
delicious. I was the best surprise though. I don't know how you gave up sweets truly because
especially when I go on a road trip, a really long road trip and you were on this bus for
Bachelor Live on stage. Like you've been on this bus for a
minute. If I could not have candy or sweets, I think I would be so grumpy. Oh, well, see,
usually it's easy. I do it every year because I have such a bad sweet tooth. And like after the
first couple days, I feel good. I'm like, I got this. But because I'm on the tour bus and, you know,
there's like eight or nine of us living on this bus, everybody loves their sweets. So they're
constantly, with every city, they're constantly bringing cupcakes, cookies, brownies, like whatever it is
that the city is known for we have on our bus and so it's been extra extra difficult this year like
i'm truly surprised that i've lasted this long but lent is over very very soon and i'm so excited
because the day that it ends will be in in new orleans so i'm going to stock up on bignets when we're
there i was just going to say what is the first thing that you're eating oh all the binias all of them
i don't even think i've ever had a bignet not going to lie oh my gosh it's oh you would love it
i mean if you have a sweet tooth you would love it it's kind of like it tastes similar to a funnel cake
the same texture and consistency, but with all the powdered sugar on it. But just whenever you try
your first one, don't wear black because every time you breed, the powdered sugar literally
goes everywhere and just like, we'll cake your shirt. So the first time I ever had when I wore
black and it was the worst idea. But they're so delicious. My mouth is literally watering over here.
If you just see me start to drool, just pay no attention. Pay no attention.
I'm going to see you on Instagram later, just buying pen ys and just shoving your face full
of them. So please tag me if you do. Let's do it. I will let you know for sure. So we saw on Instagram that
your mom and Thomas' mom met. They were at this show. Was this the first time that they
have met in person? Yes. Officially met in person was on my birthday. I mean, they had been
talking for so long. Since Thomas and I got together, they had been on the phone, like constantly
texting each other. So I feel like when they actually physically met, they were best friends.
And they love each other now.
Every day, my mom's like, I love Mama Jacobs.
I love his, because his sister was there too.
She's like, I love his sister.
So it was so fun to finally have us all together.
It was just like, it was long overdue.
And it was just the absolute blast to have all of our families there for my birthday.
It was really, really special.
I was going to say, that was probably so nice for you.
Warmed your heart being up on stage.
No, you have literally like every one of your supporters in the audience.
That's awesome.
I know.
I know.
It's been such a blast.
With Bachelor 11 stage, okay, I don't know how you're keeping up with it.
Are you tired?
Because I'm over here teaching and I'm tired.
So I don't know how you are not exhausted.
Well, okay, I mean, I have to give credit where credit is due.
Teachers, you all do so, so much, especially with 25, 30 students each and every day.
Like, you deserve to be exhausted.
Like, you have earned that.
I mean, I just go up on stage every night and sing a dance and facilitate a show.
But, I mean, I feel like I'm in a constant state of exhaustion right now.
Like, my feet are broken, but I don't want to complain because I absolutely love it.
I have such a blast.
It's been truly, like, the most fun thing I've ever done.
I feel like I just, like, I found my thing.
And so it's been so wonderful.
Are you going to be so sad when it's, like, your last show?
You think you'll cry in the last show?
Oh, yeah.
Definitely.
It's going to be weird.
I mean, because we did this a couple of years ago.
prior, you know, to COVID. And even when that shut down, because we only got, I think,
like, 18 or 19 shows under her belt, like, even when that ended, I was like,
what do I do now? You know, it was like this weird transition where I was fixated on one thing
for so long. And now, luckily, I still have my wine line and Bordeaux and everything. But it's
going to be a very weird adjustment. You have so many things going on that after this show's
over, maybe you'll like taking a deep breath. But also, you just launched and
new collapse. Can you tell us a little bit about that? Oh, yes, of course. I partnered with a brand called
Lulu Simon, and they make just so many different varieties of pieces of clothing, a lot of loungewear.
So I actually did a small little collab with them that launched last week. It's all comfy clothes.
So tease, a sweatshirt. I'm actually wearing it right now.
First of all, I noticed that. First of all, yeah. But it's all pieces that like basically are
So we have one for the dogs. We have one for the champagne, my sparkling wine line, and then just like a fun oversized sweatshirt because I'm always in my loungewear. So if anyone wants to get it, you can get it all online at lulusimon.com. I've been taking it in my stories on Instagram, but it's just fun, comfy, cozy pieces. I like, I hate to get all dressed up. So whenever I can just wear my loungewear, that's all I live in these days. So yeah, it's, it's been a fun project that I've been working on. But,
Michelle, I want to pivot to you and hear from you, speaking of fun things.
So I saw that you and Nate recently ran into both Matt and Rachel at the NCAA women's
final four.
How was that?
Unexpected.
You know, when you, like, you run into, you expect to run into one of your exes, right?
I feel like it's inevitable.
Like, you break up, whatever down the line.
Like, you're always going to run back into them, right?
And so I always knew that there's like going to come a time where, you know, I crossed Matt's path again.
And, you know, Rachel and I still all like catch up every once in a while.
And so, you know, we're not like completely disconnected.
But I was really surprised that that took place in Minnesota because that is like the last place I thought I would run into them.
You know, Nate and I are going to be traveling to New York here and we've been in L.A. so much.
So I thought that those were the places.
So it just kind of caught me off guard and definitely caught all the other fans who were at the arena off guard too.
And the amount of cameras and phones that shot up as soon I was like, wait, I was laughing.
Everyone else around was laughing.
Matt and Rachel were laughing.
And so it was fun.
It was nice.
And, you know, naked's along with everybody.
Yeah.
Right.
It wasn't awkward or anything like that.
Yeah.
Well, and I always say, like, people always think, isn't it weird running into your exes from the show?
And it all is probably dependent on who your ex is.
But everyone's paths crossed.
There's always something going on that you just know, especially in this world, you're going to run into somebody.
I have to say, though, I always forget you were on Matt season.
I forget, too.
But I, yeah, I actually forgot about that.
And even when I posted it on my story, I had so many responses that were like,
I totally forgot that you were on map season.
And I was like, honestly, I forgot too until I saw him coming up to escalator with Rachel.
Like it is something that, you know, it's not necessarily in the forefront of my mind.
And it was, it was this huge emotional roller coaster, right?
But everything in this world changes over so quick.
So as quick as that breakup happened, then, you know, I was in this Bachelorette role.
And now I'm here.
It seems like so long ago.
Yeah.
I don't know how you did it.
Honestly, if I would run into some of my exes, I would book it the other way.
I'd be like, I don't have time for this.
I would not chat with them.
You know, it was just a public setting, but no.
I mean, they seem, you know, they seem like they're doing well.
Nate and I are doing really well.
So it was fine.
Speaking of you and Nate, and you had just mentioned this, but you guys are headed to New York.
What are you going there for?
Is it just for fun?
So Nate and I were supposed to go to New York after the finale.
And it was something that we were both looking forward to so much just because, like,
we always had in the back of our mind that we were going to.
to live in New York for a period of time. That is not a hint or anything like that. But we just,
we really wanted to go there as a couple and we're sad when we had to cancel that trip due to
the pandemic. And so we got invited to Sherry Hill's fashion show, bridal version. And so we decided
to make a trip out of it. And, you know, we're going to meet up with Serena and Joe. We're
going to meet up potentially with Bree and her boyfriend that we've met before. And so it'll be like a
nice little trip, and I'm sure you could, you know, see us walking around doing all the touristy
things, too. I mean, Nate's a huge museum person, so I wouldn't be surprised if we hit up a few
museums. I'm so jealous. I love New York. I'm going to give you one recommendation. If you make
it over to Brooklyn, go to Ignacio's Pizza. It is my favorite spot. Thomas introduced me,
and it's beautiful. It's right under the bridge, like right on the water, beautiful setting. There's
so many other, of course, it's New York and Brooklyn, like so many other bars and restaurants
around it, but it is worth the hike over there. Walk the bridge and just head on down. It's
so good. Oh, oh, I'm so jealous. I'm excited for that. Again, my mouth is over here watering. Okay.
Please take pictures of all of the food you eat. I will live vicariously through you.
Absolutely. Well, Michelle, it's been so fun to catch up with you. You're going to have an absolute
blast in New York. Live it up for me. But we got to keep this fun rolling. I think it's
It's time that we just bring out our amazing guest of the day.
She is not only a professional makeup artist, but she has a huge following on TikTok, and
she, like I mentioned, recently launched her own podcast called Girlie Pop.
So everybody, please welcome Allie Yost.
Hello, how are you doing?
I'm great, guys.
Well, we are so excited to have you.
Congratulations first on the launch of your Girlie Pop podcast.
Thank you.
So exciting.
I appreciate that guy.
thanks so much we know that you are all about women empowerment and just sending positive vibes and
so beck and i and i were just super excited i know that i've followed you on ticot for a little bit
um so i was really happy to be able to interview you and just kind of see how all of this came
about yeah you guys are so sweet thank you so much thanks for having me first off of course but yeah
i don't know it kind of like happens on accident if you're asking like how i even started my ticot um
It was like right at the peak of the pandemic.
And before my social media really started to explode,
I was a freelancing makeup artist.
So obviously once COVID hit, I couldn't do makeup anymore.
So it was just one of those times where I was,
we were all there, right?
We were just bored, like looking for things to do from home.
So I just started making videos.
And I think also just as humans during that time,
with all of us going through something so traumatic,
where we didn't really know how to navigate through it,
I think, you know, just like hope and encouragement was like so needed more than any other time, you know?
Like that was like the most that we probably could have really needed some type of like words of encouragement on the internet, you know?
So I guess that that's like that's probably why it exploded the way that it did because I just think the timing was really great.
But yeah, I've always kind of, I've always been like that.
I've always been very like back in the day I used to be on Vine.
And so I had like, yes, I miss Vine so much.
I talk about, but that's the reason I love TikTok so much is that because I feel like it's very
similar to Vine in that way, you know, just like a longer version. But yeah, I had almost
200,000 on Vine. And I kind of felt like that was like the peak of my social media presence,
you know, like I didn't really get any type of traction or like I didn't get an audience bigger
than when I had my Vine. So it was just, it was really cool for me because the way that my TikTok
exploded. I was like, wow, I guess, like, people still, like, want to hear what I have to say or, like,
they still value the content that I make, you know? So, but yeah, I guess it kind of just happened
on accident, but then I just kept going with it. And now it's my full time. And I love it. I still do
makeup. I still freelance, but TikTok and social media is my full time now, which is such a dream
come true, because I've been doing it for years. But yeah. So that's my.
You have the whole creative mindset, which I love because I am truly not the, not
that way. And so every time I, I see people blowing up on TikTok or whatever it is, I'm like,
wow, that's incredible. It just, it blows my mind. I have to ask you, though, and I do want
to get into more of the podcast and everything. But before that, because Michelle and I are fans of
you, we obviously love, like Michelle said, you're, you're just a badass female empowerment,
good, positive vibes just to spread all throughout social media because it can be a very scary
place. But were you a bachelor or bachelorette fan? Um, so I,
I was for a little bit when I was younger, but I was, like, afraid that you guys were going to ask this because I didn't want to offend by any means.
Oh, no, no, no, don't worry.
I don't.
I don't.
I don't.
Obviously, like, I'm familiar with y'all.
Like, I'm familiar with, you know, the people on the show, but I'm definitely not a person who, like, watches all the episodes and really keeps up with it.
But, like, every girlfriend of mine does.
You know, these two women coming up, Allie.
This is your chance to maybe, you know, get back on the Bachelorette train.
I know.
I know.
For sure.
I love it.
I've been wanting somebody on the podcast where they're like, no, I'm not a fan.
I don't watch the show.
Because, like, realistically, there's so much more to everybody than just, like, the one thing than the show.
So I'm glad that you're honest and I love it.
That's not like, y'all's, not just like your only identity, right?
Like, yes, it's a major part of your life, but we identify in other ways than just The Bachelor.
So, like, a podcast.
Like, I love that.
Yeah, absolutely.
It is so crazy, though, like how just even being, right, like, this is such a small snippet.
bit of your life like even with becca too like when you were on the show you have so much more
life outside of the show but like those few minutes or whatever airtime you have or whatever
people know of you like that's who you are that's who you are right like that's your full identity
like you were a person before that show and you're a person after the show yeah exactly and no
like it's it's almost like you can understand that and the people who've gone through it can understand
it you know but um not necessarily like fans always understand that piece too is kind of crazy yeah
And it's reality TV, right?
So it's like, it only shows like little parts of who you are, not like who are as the first full person, you know?
Yes, yes.
It shows two months of our lives and that's it.
And you're like, I was years, but okay.
There's so much more to all of us.
Not a Bachelorette fan, but that is okay.
Not yet.
Not yet.
We might have you next season.
We'll see, we'll see.
But, okay, one, I saw the other day on TikTok you posted, you did like a little
video of where you started, like your first makeup tutorial that you did versus like where you are
now.
Is it just so wild to look back on one?
I'm like, can you just come do my eyeliner because the wing eyeliner?
I can't, like, I thought about bringing my eyeliner pencil here.
I'm like, maybe she can teach me over the dream.
We should do a tutorial.
I need it bad.
So, that's hilarious.
Go grab your pencil now.
That is the one thing that I love about winged liners that like hasn't gone out.
Like even then, six years ago, I was wearing.
winked liner and I just hope it never goes away because that's like such a staple is like a good
eyeliner moment you know I feel like it will I mean it's been a thing since what like the 60s probably
I know it's been a thing forever yeah yeah no honestly I need to I need to yeah Michelle loves her
bomber jackets at a moment I want to get into more of your TikTok presence but first because I
were all about building up women and we're just so happy that we have a fellow podcaster on here so
you recently launched girly pop where did you get that name like how what does it mean for all of our
listeners yeah so um i okay so honestly it just stems back from one day randomly one of my girlfriends
was like hyping me up on my instagram post as we do as women right we hype each other up in the
comments so she called me girly pop she's like whatever you look great girly pop and i literally fell
to the ground i was like that is the cutest thing i've ever heard and then i just it kind of like stuck to my
own vocabulary. And then during one of the times that I was giving like my little encouraging moments or
like pep talk on TikTok, I threw in girly pop and everyone like my audience was like ran with it.
They loved it. So it just kind of stuck. Um, so I feel like every kind of like outro to my videos,
I'm like, you got this girly pop or like even with my podcast, I'll be like, you know,
you got this girlie pop. Love you girly pops, whatever. So that's just kind of like that's like my
audience now is they're my girly pops. Um, and it's just become like such a part of my brain.
Yeah. So honestly, my audience was like a huge inspiration for me to start a podcast because I just feel like there was so much more conversation that we could have past like three minutes max on TikTok, you know? So I never really considered having a podcast until they were like, no, you like, we would really, really listen to it. So I was like, okay. I mean, I really love to talk. I was like born to freaking talk. So my mom can vouch for that for sure. So I was like, I might as well give it a shot. And then one day I was brainstorming.
And I was like, shut up.
Girlie Popcast, that's like the cutest thing I've ever heard.
So it's just, yeah, it's just been like the center of my brand.
But I love it.
You know what I keep like listening in my head.
You know, we all know the old school end sync song Dirty Pop.
I feel like we got to do a remix.
So like girly pop.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I've got comments like that before.
Yeah.
That's so cute.
You need to remix it.
You need to do a parody.
Totally.
Yeah.
Breathe it.
Let's go.
I love that.
Well, one thing about you, and I feel like so many probably of your followers have said this to you, too,
and can relate, is you just spread so many positive vibes or all of your content.
But what I do love about you, too, is you're very willing, which actually could be perfect for
the television show, is you're so willing to be vulnerable and open and honest and even, you know,
get emotional and cry when the moment calls for it.
um so whether it's through advice affirmations motivational messages how does it feel knowing that your
content brings so much happiness to people oh my god um i love that it's honestly what makes it all
worthwhile for me and at the end of the day like i my one mission in life is just that i i make a
difference in one way shape or form while i'm here on planet earth you know what i mean so if if that
means that I touch three people, 20 people, 1.4 million people, like, that's all that I can
ever ask for. So that is 100% what keeps me going, because obviously with being, you know,
social media presence, it's a lot of opportunity for people to critique you. And it's just,
like, it's just vulnerable to, like, put yourself out there for strangers every single day. Like,
there are so many people who know, like, every part of my life, you guys get this. So it's, like,
sometimes it can get a little overwhelming or even discouraging but I think at the end of my day
like I just thank God every single day that I can just be that person that can make a difference
for people even though I've never met them like that's like the craziest thing to social media
for me is that I can touch people that I haven't even really personally met and that just like
blows my mind it's like the coolest thing ever and how like heavily you can actually influence them
and I think I mean that is such an amazing thing you definitely are to
women and young girls as well.
So I commend you on that.
Like across the world.
Like the internet's wild, you know?
I think the coolest part for me is just, you know, watching it when you're in a position, right?
You're doing all these beautiful makeup tutorials and all these different things, right?
And it's so easy for girls to take a look at that and be like, I want to be exactly like that.
Like this girl, this woman is perfect.
But you being so willing to show that vulnerable side shows them like it's okay to break down.
It's okay not to have it all together.
And I think that's a piece that I just.
a lot of people connect with and right yeah it's pretty awesome i even think as like a a consumer of
do i say consumer i don't know like a person who scrolls on the internet you know um there's so much
of that already that i'm like it's like that it's like that saying where it's like if you don't
see enough of blank in the world just be it and so i'm like i don't see enough realness i don't see
enough like mental breakdowns on the living room floor so like i'm going to be that yeah no other
people are doing it right i know i'm not the only one we're all doing it we're all there
I was just there a few minutes ago, you know?
Right, exactly.
Hey, I actually love that you said that.
And I want to ask you both this question
because this is something that I've chatted with some of my girlfriends
just like from back home, back in Minnesota with is I,
and I recently went through, I called it The Purge on Instagram
where I unfollowed a decent amount of people,
but especially people who everything was so perfect, so curated.
it had like this seamless aesthetic where it was like all just them with their selfies and their perfect clothes hair done up makeup done like beautiful like showing off the bodies and I'm like this seems so fake to me like this is not real and so I just had to stop following a lot of them and like now even you know because you can go on the search feed in Instagram and and on TikTok I don't even follow them anymore because I'm like I don't want to just constantly be seeing this one side of things and like think that this is reality I think it's so damaging
especially for young women do you both find yourselves kind of having that same mentality of like you know
you only want the real now yeah i think i think that um just like the overfiltered like perfect
stuff on the internet has gotten really old and i think it's it's so important to be like
self-aware of what is going through your brain when you're looking at that stuff so like sometimes
i'll be following you know certain women or certain accounts or whatever on instagram and i've been
following them for years and I'm like no no no I really love this person and then I'm like but
Ali do you really love them or every time you look at a post of them you're like about yourself
you know what I'm saying so it's not even anything where you're like she's such a fake whatever it's
like you know I can I think she's beautiful she's amazing her life looks awesome but in reality
I every time I see their stuff I don't talk well to myself and if that's the type of response
that I get by looking at their stuff I can't follow them anymore
you know so it's not it's it's it's almost like you just have to be really self-conscious of like how
you're talking to yourself or what is going through your brain when you see certain posts like that
you know i think that's the biggest part for for me personally is just being able to identify those
types of thoughts right not not allowing them to spiral out of control because it's like
your brain really does fire all these random things at times too sometimes you don't even realize it
yeah yeah it's hard and it's like even if you're aware of it right it still happens and sometimes like
it takes you a minute to catch yourself for sure but yeah i mean i just when i like sit and look at my
students and i hear my students talk about all these different things on ticot and instagram and they're
10 and 11 and the fact that like they're already comparing there's so much comparison like that's
that's really hard you know that's so hard to to see and so it's like you know if i'm doing it you know
they're definitely doing it they're definitely doing it too and they don't even have you know
necessarily like life is so confusing at that time as well yeah well well well well
we at least as adults probably have more of the wherewithal to kind of know like track our
our thought process and they can't they truly can't they really believe it i i'm not going to let my
kids have technology they will not have phones access to the internet anything until i'm like
tell you and tell you to get your driver's license go play high and go play outside go play kickball
all of it get outside and drink it off the computer exactly go play with makeup
iPads and stuff before they even hit double digits they're
like eight years old with like full access to the internet and I'm like I've literally had like
random eight year olds duetting my TikTok and I'm like why are you on the internet you're eight
go play soccer why you don't even know what I'm talking about there's no way this is all going
right over your little eight year old head you know like what yeah yeah stuff that they're
inundated with in this day and age is such a scary thing oh my god I was going to ask you both
actually at the top of this episode when you mentioned vine did either of you have my space or
was that before your time yes i had my space wait alie did you have my space no i didn't because my parents
didn't let me okay so i didn't either my mom said no she said no i i had my space which i'm actually
surprised because not thinking about it like my parents were fairly strict growing up but do you remember
when you had to rate your friends your top eight you had to rate your top friends like that's horrible
best friends like do you know how unhealthy that is like oh my god what about the the the the facebook
statuses where it would be like
oh yes it would be like rate me
or something what was it called
I know exactly what you're talking about
yes it's so bad
social media is a freaking
scary place to be honest it was called
to be honest to be honest like write
a to be honest about me and it came to be like
to be honest you like you're so
beautiful like to be honest like your breath
is really smelly like it was just not nice
stuff I'm like why are we setting
each other up to like time to sleep
at like 12 years old that's terrible
Right? Oh, man. Oh, man. Wow. Well, I'm glad that Michelle had to MySpace. I was, because I'm
obviously older than both of you. I just turned 32. I'm like, I'm really going to age myself right now asking this question. No, I never had it. I honestly, when I had my first Facebook account, like all my other friends had Facebook. I did have a cell phone at this point, but my parents were like, no social media. They were smart. Honestly, they knew what they were doing. At the time, I was like, you guys are such jerks, you know? Like, just let me, all my friends have Facebook. Why can I? And I made a fake.
well, not fake, but like, I made a Facebook account behind my parents back, and they found out, obviously.
I was going to say, how long did they go without finding? Like, how long did you get away with it?
Like, 12 hours. Oh. I thought you were to say like a month. A week, a month. Exactly.
No, like, literally overnight while I was sleeping. I wasn't even using it. And then they found out the next morning.
How did they find out? Did they go? Like, did you forget to, like, delete the history or something on the computer?
I forgot to log out, like, or something. You know, because that was like when we had like a family, like, computer.
There was no laptops.
Rookie mistake, Allie.
Rookie mistake.
I know.
I was new.
I didn't even have my space.
I was like, well, IMS.
What was it?
AOL.
Dial up, you know?
Like the whole like phone thing would run.
AIM.
AIM.
AIM.
There we go.
Wait.
Do you both remember your handles?
And it breaks my heart.
I don't remember it.
It was probably something so cheesy.
And I don't remember.
I'm so bum.
I just had this conversation again with my girlfriend's back.
in Minnesota, and we were all raided in our
usernames to each other, and I was like, this shit's
embarrassing. Wait, what was yours, Becca?
Well, I had
one, so my very first one,
because I loved taking back Sunday
back in the day, because I was emo.
It was like Sunday's best,
and probably, like, my birthday or something, and then I
had one. I feel like it's a good one.
That, because my nickname was booper, so
like, boops or boop or something.
But, like, my friend,
I mean, of course, like, when you're younger, you don't, like,
fully understand what, like, certain things,
or numbers mean. So, like, all of my girlfriends had, like, blonde chika 69. And I'm like,
we were literally 10. Like, we had no idea what 69 even meant at that point. But, like, we just
thought it was cool. But, Ali, I actually have this question for you because if your parents were
so against, like, MySpace and Facebook, how do they feel now that basically social media is your
full-time career? I don't know that question.
much i never even thought about it you have to have um helpful circle moment i haven't even asked them
that yet but um i mean they're extremely supportive of what i do especially because they're just
proud at this type of content i make you know um so uh so yeah they're very supportive now but that's
hilarious i didn't even think of that like they like we're trying everything to not have me on it
and that and now with you you're getting the checks off and then come back
right right right that's so funny i love it well by the time this
Lane. By the time this airs, hopefully you'll have chatted with them. So report back to us. I will. Absolutely. I'll call
them today. I have to ask that. I love it. Ellie, you talked a little bit about, like, making content, right? Because, like, it has become this, like, huge part of your life. Yeah. Is there a point where, like, making content gets stressful for you? Now that it's like, right? Because it's, do you feel like your personal life is social media and your business life is social media? And then you're just, you know, you're trying to make that daily content. You're trying to reach.
your viewers you're trying to do all these different things how do you figure out that balance yeah
it's it's crazy you just bring that up now because I feel like I kind of had my first uh I don't want to
say breakdown but yeah kind of I had my first moment of like really feeling like I hit like the most
uh overwhelmness that I've ever felt because I again I've never been full time social media um
so like leading up to to now it's it's been like yes I did social media and I was uploading my
tutorials and I was you know I was on Instagram and YouTube and stuff but it was
really like I could only do it when I had my free time. So there was still something taking me away
from social media like freelancing or like, you know, when I worked retail, it was like I still
worked all day and then I kind of got a break from it in that sense. Now it's almost like I have all
the freedom in the world, which is amazing. But it's like because I have all this freedom,
I almost have to teach myself to set those boundaries and like really make sure that I'm still
prioritizing time away from it um otherwise i literally like i i had to step away from my social
media for a week like probably three weeks ago um and i was just like fully transparent with my audience
and i was like i just am like i'm just not i just don't feel like myself i feel like i'm like
in this weird fog i just really need to like take a moment to like realize i'm alive and i'm like
in real world you know because it's um it's very consuming especially with when you are a creator but
then also like you feel like you always have to be genuinely on social media to like know all
the trends and like make sure that you're like still with it you know what i mean so um yeah it's
definitely it has its moments especially because um i i've only been living in north carolina for six
years but i was born and raised in upstate new york so i still have a lot of like my core
besties that i like grew up with you know um so again like social media like all that stuff is
like also the only way that i can stay in touch with those people so even just like simple
text messages and stuff I am like I'm overwhelmed by you know what I mean so um I do have to say that
like my biggest advice and honestly the week that I took off was like the most I had ever felt alive in
like a year because I finally was like breathing and like going for walks outside it sounds so
simple but you know when you're just like so consumed and I love what I do too so that's the other
thing is I just love to work I love to be busy all the time I almost feel like if I'm not working
I get like that guilt where I'm like I could be working right now.
Like I could be productive, which is kind of a toxic mentality, you know.
So yeah, I started journaling every morning and every evening and I've kept with it the past three weeks.
And it's just crazy how like simple little things like that that you wouldn't think would be all that impactful was so impactful.
Like I felt it within three days.
I was like, damn, this feels good, you know?
Like to just like sit and like write to myself or read a book or whatever.
So, yeah, it has its moments, but, you know, you just have to learn how to do it all in moderation and, you know, set those boundaries with yourself.
Well, kudos to you for Yvran being able to say, like, for my mental health, I need to step away.
I feel like in this day and age, people say that.
And it's so much harder to do, especially when it's constantly at your fingertips.
And it sounds like it was very needed.
One thing I want to ask you, because you even said you have to prioritize your time, obviously, whether that's,
for your personal life or content creation or just being on social media to learn the trends
and the ticks. So I, I'm sure our listeners would love to know this too. But for me personally,
I like just started kind of going on TikTok and like I'm still trying to figure out what the
hell I'm doing. I do not understand it. I'm a baby. I'm a baby. I was so overwhelmed. It's just
like getting a new app. It's okay. Because you're like, I don't know how to navigate this thing
at all. Yeah. I don't get it. I truly don't understand it. And I'm so happy that I have.
you, but like, so what is a day in the life look like for you when you're on social media,
like trying to come up with content creation? Like, what does that look like? How much time do you
put into it? Yeah. Give me any tips, please. Sure. So honestly, I mean, this is just how I've always
approached it. I've never been the type of TikToker who like does all this crazy editing or vlogging.
Like, you know the TikTokers that like obviously put a lot of time and effort. Like it's a production.
like they use like a professional camera or whatever um or they do all these crazy transitions
i try with my transitions but um i just i don't know i just feel like people really love like just
real moments you know what i mean so like almost like as if you were just picking up the phone
and talking to a girlfriend or honestly it's crazy because i saw somebody talk about this on tictock too
which i was like damn i guess that's like kind of what i do and i think it's very effective is
almost treating ticot as you would like your instagram stories so when you're hopping on an
Instagram story and you're just like talking about a random thing or whatever, that's kind of how I treat my TikTok. And I just, you know, and eventually I just think that that stuff like really catches up and people really enjoy it. I do have to say the algorithm makes absolutely no sense. I was going to ask your opinion on that. Yeah, because I saw another like all these random videos will come on my for you page though of people like trying to get tricks and tips to like make sure your stuff goes viral. Like the seven second video thing. Yeah, right. Like nothing longer than seven seconds or like.
Another one was look back at your other videos that have gone viral and just look at like what time you posted or whatever.
And all the ones that have gone viral from me are like 3 p.m. noon, two in the morning.
Like it doesn't make sense.
You know what I mean?
So like the algorithm I will never understand and I just cross my fingers every time.
But yeah.
And then I don't know.
Just using like any trending hashtags, I guess works too.
But yeah, I think people just appreciate realness, you know.
Becca was in my first TikTok video because I literally, I had TikTok for a little bit.
I mean, I've always had TikTok, like I downloaded it from the whole pandemic.
It honestly kept me mentally sane, I feel like, as it probably did a lot of other people.
But I didn't post anything until, like, a month ago.
And Beck was on my first TikTok.
We did a little dance.
Oh, my God.
That was so embarrassing.
Which dance?
Which one?
I'm screaming.
It was so embarrassing.
It was a Chris Brown song.
Wait a minute.
I don't even remember the lyrics.
No, freaking clue.
I was with Michelle and then Serena who's like who grew up dancing and I haven't danced in years and I think you both kind of already knew the move so I was thrown into it and could not for the life of me get it down. I was like oh it was um it was some moment but yes it didn't it entertained us for a really long time and also entertained the guys who sat and watched us do like however many takes before we went on family food so it's a workout too I've tried doing dancing to touch maybe twice in my I'm not that never you guys I will I
probably only tried to dance twice out of the whole like almost two years that I've been on
TikTok. Um, yeah, it's a workout though. Like, I've like been sweating sometimes.
Mm-hmm. Oh, I, I sweat just trying to make one in general because I have no idea what the
hell's going on. Right, right. You're like, it's just the anxiety. It's just the anxiety raging right now.
It's so big deal. I'm fine. It's okay. That is so funny. Um, okay. One more thing I want to ask
you about TikTok and then we'll get into, uh, our game. But,
Obviously, we've seen Gracie your dog make appearances on TikTok.
Is it just so much fun doing them with her?
Yeah, she's just like, she's like my child.
It's kind of sick.
Like, she's literally like, like I birthed her.
Like I just love her that much.
It's crazy.
Like sometimes I, I really think, like, I can only imagine the type of mom I really will be one day because if this is how I am with my dog, like, bless my child's heart.
They're going to be they can't get off of me.
I get it.
You love me.
But like, enough.
Stop smothering me.
stop. Yeah, I'm going to be a smother mother for sure.
I like that. Yeah, it's, I, it's crazy because, and I talked about this on an episode of my
podcast where, um, this was right around the time of my little breakdown where I was like,
I need to take a break from social media. It was just kind of like one thing after another,
but, um, Gracie's health was very strange. There was something going on with her that I just
didn't understand. So I, uh, I got on the internet and I had another one of those like
vulnerable moments where I was like, you know, having a dog can be really stressful.
Because that's the damn truth, you know?
Like it's a living thing that you have to take care of.
Obviously, there are bigger responsibilities like a human being, you know, and I never, like, discredited that.
But that was probably the first time that I've ever, like, gotten hate in a way as well, because I do like to consider myself pretty lucky that a majority of my audience or the people who see my videos are very supportive and kind people.
I don't really deal with a lot of hate.
But I felt like that TikTok really got on the side of, like, angry single.
mom TikTok and they were all in my comments like well if you think a dog is overwhelming like just
imagine having a child of three working 12 jobs and being a single mom and I'm like ma'am I never ever
discredited that but also I just felt like that was and that like I had a whole topic about that on my
podcast where I was like just because other people have bigger struggles or bigger battles
doesn't mean that yours is any less of a struggle you know what I mean like doesn't mean that
you should feel discredited in your feelings. So, yeah, that was like a whole,
Gracie's fine now, but yeah. But yeah, I love her to pieces. I love her so much. Yeah.
Well, I'm glad that you say that too. It's, and again, to never discredit anyone, but like,
you're living in your life. Like that was the moment. That was the biggest burden for you. And it
can be stressful. Dogs can't talk back. Trust me, I get it. I'm a dog mom. I'm like, I have
constant anxiety over minnow where I'm like, holy shit, how am I going to actually raise a human
being. If I'm like this right now, who. But, but I get it. But yeah, like, and that's, that's actually
the scary part of social media is when people, the trolls will, they'll try to diminish you and
your struggle. Yeah. And but they always like, want to one up. And it's like, this is not a
competition here. Like, this is just a place for me to share my story. I was like, Martha, this isn't a
competition. God bless you and your children, but like, you know, this is, like you said, do you
respond? Like, do you typically, like, let's say you see a message. Do you, I,
I know that we all probably are like, you want to respond, right?
In our heads.
Don't do it.
I know.
Like, Michelle, don't do it.
Yeah.
I've probably slipped up a couple times and responded, but I do have to say that a majority of the time I really do try to hold myself back because I think that, well, when you're just stooping to their level, you're giving them exactly what they want, which is a reaction, right?
They want to know that they got to you.
So I simply turned the comments off on that video, which I've never done before, but I was like, I don't want this anymore.
And I'm not going to give them the power to feel that they can.
Everyone can say whatever they want.
Obviously, we all have freedom of speech.
But this is my page.
And so if I don't want that energy, I'm turning the comments off.
And then also it keeps me from getting upset.
It keeps me from reacting and maybe saying things in the heat of the moment that I would not be proud of.
Right.
So, yeah, try my best.
I'm sure you can find something somewhere where maybe I got a little sassy with a troll.
But majority of the time, I try not to respond because it's just not worth it.
It's really.
And it's a stranger's opinion of me that.
again, it's like kind of tying back to what we said before, where it's like, that was only like 30 seconds of my life that they saw.
And so their opinion is so, so irrelevant because they have no idea the bigger picture of the rest of my life.
Yeah.
And the end of the day, it's so much more reflection of that.
You know what I mean?
Like when someone's commenting on someone's page like that, it is more reflection of them than the person that they're commenting on.
Because honestly, like, when I'm, I've never left a hate comment in my life and I'm proud to say it.
So it's like, but also I've just been very content in the type of person.
that I am or just even just my life and so I know that if anyone is going to leave any type of
hate or just negativity on the internet there's just no way that they're like sitting on a yacht
somewhere like really happy with their life like they're probably feeling a certain type of way
about themselves or where they're at and I honestly in moments like that I just like I pray for
them and I'm like I just hope that they get to be in a better place where they don't feel like they
have to hate on strangers on the internet yeah you know like right you just have to be in a really
yeah where they they don't have to leave a 30 second remark that isn't going to do anything for anyone
truly it does you burned more calories moving those cards than you would have if you just just one swipe
like a paragraph like you use grammarly on this to make sure that there are no errors like come on
well sometimes sometimes sometimes they don't a lot of times they don't let's be honest
yeah a lot of times I'm like is this even English yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
You just got to say, oh, bless your heart.
Allie, it has been so much fun getting to know you a bit more, but we do want to get to know you even more because we have a game that we want to play.
It's very easy.
It's basically a rapid-fire question that we're going to ask you and you just give us the answer that comes to mind.
So I'll start it off.
It's very easy.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Pizza?
Is that deep enough?
That's not deep enough.
No, my gosh.
Love pizza.
kids we love cars pizza okay i can't complain what is your signature drink oh
this is supposed to be rapid fire i feel so under pressure um i honestly i'm so bad about drinks
i just get a vodka soda with cranberry which is so boring simple yeah that's right
every time wait i have to champagne or just champagne they're out of girl oh i will send you i have a
Sparkly and Wine Line, so I will send you some of mine
after this. It's good. It's so good. Allie, when are you
most productive? In the evenings.
Okay. Like, it's the weirdest thing, but I feel like, as soon as the sun is setting,
I'm like, let's work. What? Backwood. I'm the opposite. I'm doing my makeup at one in the
morning. Why? Like, you got to go to them. That's all the good ideas. Okay. What is,
what is your zodiac sign and if you know anything like about your sign what is like the most
or what is the biggest trait that relates to that you're smiling yeah i'm really curious
with you i'm do you guys have any guesses at all oh um are you a leo no are you a gemini no
oh but i'm close so i'm actually a torus but i'm like the very last day of a tourist so yeah um
But I would say three major things that I would say definitely aligns with who I am is I'm very stubborn.
And I really love my food.
I love food.
And I love sleeping.
So like naps and food are very important to us, horses.
So yeah.
I feel like you are my twin.
Okay, period.
I love that.
Sovereign, food and sleep.
I'm like all of the things.
Okay, Allie, what is one thing that you never can leave your house without?
Oh.
probably my phone yeah i can't leave the house without my phone standard that would be
awesome what is your favorite your all-time favorite dessert anything chocolate probably chocolate
ice cream though like chocolate ice cream holds my heart so deeply or like if it's chocolate
ice cream with a um or vanilla i guess but it but if it has like a chocolate brownie or like a chocolate
cookie with it done oh my god like a warm one yeah so good yum so good love that if you could have any
superpower what would it be um maybe is time travel a superpower yeah yeah you can time travel
are there superheroes that can time travel i think so got it's a superpower it's anything yeah
yeah right i've invented it yeah i mean yes
definitely time travel i don't know why though maybe so that would you go forward or back i'd
go back i'd probably go back in like it'd be stupid little things like if you know the waiter was
like enjoy and i was like you too like i'd be like and thank you little moments like that i love that
yes i connect with that so much or like the other day i went for a walk and i didn't take i didn't
take my tag off of my new leggings so i was walking all around the city like with a tagging out my
butt and like yes girl
no one told me either like
I don't know I just feel like if I was
in the elevator with a girlfriend or not even a girlfriend
like a stranger like a chicky and I was like
you tell them I would tell her
my big ass tag was sticking out of her booty
maybe I don't know maybe they thought you wanted to return
it afterwards you know yeah maybe I was taking them
for a test drive yeah I was like these are my new
looos or whatever it's the new style
boys boys leave like the stickers on their head
Exactly. It's same thing, right? Yeah, same thing. The worst is I've actually worn a sweatshirt several times, washed it several times, and then on like the fourth or fifth time wearing it, realized I have the tag on it. Oh, my God. Well, you could write a Yelp review for that brand and say, hey, listen, the tags are durable. Yeah, that's a good tag. Good material. They could go through like a windstorm and they're fine. A rainstorm. Okay, I'm super curious about this one. Who is your celebrity crush?
Zach Efron.
Wow, you did not even hesitate.
She knew what she wanted.
High school? Did you watch
High School musical then? Yeah. He was like,
well, I would say Jesse McCartney was probably like
my first crush. But Zach
Ephron, ever since, has been
a huge crush. I love him.
Zach Efron, okay.
What is one beauty trend that
you rocked but wished you hadn't?
Besides
the tag on the pants.
I would say the
bronzer all over the face phase that we did once upon a time where we didn't use bronzer just for
the cheeks it was like all over the face like as a setting powder almost like really wish i
didn't do that i'm just super super thin eyebrows do you guys oh yeah oh yeah i'm still trying to recover
mine did not what is what is one thing on your bucket list um can it be career late
related.
Yeah.
Obviously, yeah.
I would say it's like attending a red carpet or being on a red carpet.
It's like such a major goal of mine.
Even within this year, I would love to make that happen.
Okay.
Bucketlist thing for sure.
We will manifest that now.
We're manifesting it.
I love it.
Well, that's a good question to go out on because I want to leave it at that because I really
want to make this happen.
But before we let you go, every week we share our rose and our thorn of the week,
which is basically like our highlight, favorite moment, and then low.
light. So Michelle, do you want to start this off? Yes, I will start this off. Um, my
rose would be that Nate ended up surprising me early to Minnesota. So he was supposed to
like drive up on Sunday, but he ended up driving up on Thursday. And so when I went to my family's
house for dinner, I like walked in, giving him mom a hug. And then when I turned around, he was just
standing there. So, that was a good surprise. Um, him and Percy. And my
thorn would probably have to be um oh gosh i know that i'm like i'm trying to think right now too i'm
like oh gosh i don't know let's all talk about positivity and then like what it's what i'm fine
what that happened to me we've suppressed all the bad it's gone um i almost ran out of gas on
the freeway you know busy busy girl i forgot my car didn't beat at me so you know yeah
got places to be yes all right back i take it away well if that's the biggest thorn you have
then that's that I feel like that exactly it's a good week exactly it's a good week to complain about you know yeah for
sure yeah um who wants to do you want to go beka oh yeah yeah i'll start because i want to end with you
because we always love to end with our guests um so i'm going to start with the thorn because i want to
end on a good one but thorn is i feel like this is going to be my thorn every week that i'm away
from my dogs but just being on the road like being super homesick for my dogs it's been very very
difficult. But to kind of make up for that as my rose this week when I celebrated my birthday,
I was able to see my mom. I was able to see Thomas's mom and sister and just spend that day
in Washington, D.C. with my family, which was so, so special. I was so happy that they came out there.
That's awesome. I thought you were going to say Thorne. You didn't get a Chipotle gold card
for your birthday yet. Oh, yeah. I mean, obviously, that's going to be my Thorn every day until
Chipotle sends me one. Okay, Chipotle. All right. And
Ali, what about you?
Hit us with the rose and thorn.
Oh, my gosh.
I'll also start with the thorn so we can end on a happy note.
Y'all should have told me this was a thing.
She's like I'm going to end with the negative nelly.
Okay.
No, not at all.
Okay.
Take it off.
Um, yeah, that's hard.
I feel like I've been having a pretty good week.
Um, I would say my thorn is maybe my anxiety.
She's been, she's been pretty active this week.
Um, yeah.
But just, it's just like random.
It's like sometimes just for no reason, you know, it just picks up.
But, um, and my rose, can I say doing this?
Like, be here with you guys.
We've made it.
Okay.
You guys made it.
You're the rose.
I love it.
This has been so fun.
This is awesome.
I just appreciate y'all for having me.
Of course.
Well, Allie, it has been such a pleasure having you.
And I think this is a really good episode for anyone listening, but especially women, young
women to go and find you and check out your TikTok, your Instagram, and your podcast.
So before we let you go, can you just direct everyone of where they can find you?
Yeah, I appreciate that so much.
Well, obviously, my podcast is available.
It's called Girlie Popcast.
So it's on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, all the things.
And obviously, TikTok, my username is Allie underscore Yost.
Same with my Instagram and my YouTube channel.
Just type in my name anywhere and I'll probably be there for you.
miss her.
He missed me yet.
All right.

You guys have been the sweetest.

What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club?
Answer, a new podcast called Wisecrack, where a comedian finds himself at the center of a chilling
true crime story. Does anyone know what show they've come to see? It's a story. It's about the scariest

Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I always have to be so good, no one could ignore me.
