Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the psychology podcast. Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about how to be a better you. When you think about emotion regulation, you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome. Avoidance is easier. Ignoring is easier. Denials easier.
Starting point is 00:00:25 Complex problem solving takes effort. Listen to the psychology podcast on the. iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, my name is Enya Eumanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD...
Starting point is 00:00:51 Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble. Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your free iHeartRadio app, search emergency internetcom, and listen now. I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different. What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? Answer, a new podcast called Wisecrack,
Starting point is 00:01:15 where a comedian finds himself at the center of a chilling true crime story. Does anyone know what show they've come to see? It's a story. It's about the scariest night of my life. This is Wisecrack, available now. Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back, Happy Hour listeners. I'm ready to be here for another week with you again. And I'm flying solo today. Unfortunately, Michelle is not going to be by my side this week because I'm sure by now,
Starting point is 00:01:50 most of you have all read or heard the news that unfortunately, Michelle and Nate have decided to end their relationship. So she's going to be taking a little bit of a breather, taking some time away just to process all of this because I'm sure it's a lot right now. And so we here on Bachelor Happy Hour and I hope all of you listeners can just extend so much support and love to her and to Nate to they can only imagine are going through such a rough time. And she just needs a little time to breathe and just take it day by day. So whenever Michelle is ready to come back, I will be here for her. her and if she is ready to share how she's doing with you all then she will of course have the time in the space to do that here so again in the meantime let's just send her and Nate so much love so much support and well wishes during this time to get through it because as I'm sure most of
Starting point is 00:02:45 us know breakups are never an easy thing so Michelle my heart goes out for you right now and with all of that being said we still have a fun episode for you coming today later in the episode we talking to two very fun, cool women, Arisha Skidmore Williams and Brooke Sifrin. They are pop culture experts, hosts of a very popular podcast called The Rich and Daily, and even the rich. And as a cherry on top, they are also huge Bachelor fans. So it'll be a fun episode with the two of them. But in the meantime, I have called in reinforcements to back me up today. And I'm excited to have Thomas join Happy Hour once again for a little bit. just to catch everyone up on life and what we've had going on.
Starting point is 00:03:30 So please welcome Thomas once again. Thomas, welcome back to Happy Hour. Thanks, boops. Glad to be here. I told everyone that you are my reinforcement for the half of this podcast. So have this podcast. I like to look at like reinforcement for life, but hey, I guess podcast does follow. Well, we'll start with 30 minutes on the podcast and, you know, see how well you do. Fair enough.
Starting point is 00:03:52 I have to tell all of our listeners to Thomas is very sweaty right now. And I can't tell if it's because he's. nervous to be back here or if it's just because you've been working so hard well what they can't stand under the table my knee's touching your knee and quite frankly i don't know how to i don't know how to behave right now oh are we going to play a foot stand under the table yeah inters fine toads this got weird oh this got weird real no this is this is actually us though we're just weirdos um Thomas we have some exciting news well we have a lot of exciting news we have so much shit that's happening good things that are happening in our lives right now babe can i just it's been a year
Starting point is 00:04:27 It's been 365 days. Well, that's what I was going to say. We just, Thomas and I just celebrated our technical one-year anniversary from our first date in paradise. And man, what a wild ride it's been. I said it on my Instagram post about you, and I'll say it again, and I'll say it again to the day that I literally could not have imagined a life the way that it's been the last year. If you said write out your wildest fantasies and your dreams of what you want your will to look like, I couldn't even picture half of this. Did that include an ice in my bouquet of flowers that you gave me?
Starting point is 00:05:00 That's just the icing on the top. So for anyone who follows us on Instagram and have watched Thomas and, well, my story, too, because I already posted it, I was so excited for our one year anniversary. I got him this cute, very sentimental card and wrote this nice message in it. And what does Thomas do to repay me? He goes out and he gets, well, it was a beautiful bouquet of flowers. But he sat it on my lap when he came home, and he's like, okay, put these in a vase right now. And I'm like, okay, first of all, why are you making me do this?
Starting point is 00:05:35 And second of all, why is this bouquet so heavy? What is in these flowers? So I cut open the bouquet to put in the vase. And he has a smirnoff ice in the middle of it. And what do I do? Like any champ, I get down on one knee and chug that baby. Yeah, true rocky soundtrack, Alexa, stage left. And you dominated it.
Starting point is 00:05:55 But that was his anniversary gift to me. Oh, I got to keep you on your toes. It's something I had the opportunity. It was a big bouquet. I don't even know where the first thought was, but there was no way I was not putting to smear off ice into it. Just remember what goes around, comes around. And Thomas's birthday is coming up this weekend.
Starting point is 00:06:12 So just be mindful that you might have a lot of smearing off ices going down the hatch. Well, that's fine. I'm turning 30. So I plan on being out of my mind anyways. So just bring them on at this point. Dirty 30. Ooh, I might have to actually have you on again next week so we can tell all of our listeners what we did for your birthday, because I have a few surprises at my sleeve. The hard part about that, though, babe, is we're going to be celebrating, and I will officially be 30, so I will probably still be struggling next week.
Starting point is 00:06:39 30 going on about 76. Yes. Yeah. Yes. But that was our fun news this week. We have so much more. That's not just our fun news. So what else happened?
Starting point is 00:06:50 Well, about the house? We're buying a house. Oh, yeah. So, so, well, I've talked about this on the podcast quite a bit. But it's like official. Like, we got the house. Knock on wood. I don't want anything. So weird backstory about the house. Yes, Thomas and I bought a house in San Diego. We originally got it, what, like a month ago? Yes. And then a bunch of random stuff kind of fell through with the cellar and it was such a headache. So we ended up pulling out. And then in the best change of events, because I was dreaming. about this house and I loved it so much and was so sad that we lost it, the seller ended up
Starting point is 00:07:27 coming back and doing some work on it and meeting us in the middle. So we finally got the house back. What's the old expression? If you really love something, let it go. And if it comes back to you, it's meant to be. I think that was just setting Grace Anatomy in the most recent Grace Anatomy from Derek Shepard. But yes, so we are very soon going to be official co-home owners together? She made me her fiancé. I'm making her my roommate. And it seems like a fair tradeoff. But yes, we're super excited. It's 1926 craftsman. Like, she dreams about this house. When we walked away, I had to sleep with one eye open for a little bit because I didn't know she was trying to smother me in the middle of the night because she loves this home. So when we first actually
Starting point is 00:08:15 went to go look at it, the day I got back from tour, I told him, I was like, I don't want to leave the couch or the bed. I want to sleep for 36 hours and not move. I'm so exhausted. And what does Thomas do that same day makes me go and look at houses? And this was one of the, this was actually the first one that we looked at. And we fell in love with it. And so we had set up a meeting with the realtor and walked through it. And Thomas was playing hard to get it at first. I was like, all in like, let's buy it. This is our house. And Thomas was playing hardball with her. And then we finally get in the car an hour later. And he's like, babe, I love it. We're going to buy this house. And right away, he started dreaming up all of the renovations. So we officially
Starting point is 00:08:56 close on what, July 7th. July 7. And I think that same day, Thomas is going to put on his little cut off jean shorts and get down to business with the tool belt. Bob the builder has nothing on Tommy the builder. I'll tell you this much right now. It's going to be. Yeah. So Thomas is going to be in demolition derby mode for a couple weeks. But it's going to be amazing. It's something we both see ourselves and our trajectory of life and what we want in this house, in this neighborhood. And it's a little quirky right now. But I'm excited for that because, one, it allowed us to afford the house. And then two, it really lets us put our own stamp on it.
Starting point is 00:09:34 And three, I like to build stuff. So it's going to be. Yeah, it'll be interesting. I've never seen him. I mean, I've seen him like do little projects around a home, but nothing major. So you're going to go to the store and you're going to come back and there's going to be no floors and a couple walls missing. And it's going to be amazing.
Starting point is 00:09:48 Or I was going to say, I mean, they're going to fall more. more in love with you through this process, or I'm going to need to live on my own for three months while you're doing it all and just stay away so I don't become an anxious stress monster. I think it's going to be a combination of it, too. It'll be very interesting, but we can't wait to show off everything. Probably we'll share some stuff on social media, maybe do some TikToks. Does this mean I'm officially moving to San Diego? Yes, I am. But I'll still have my place in LA. So if anyone is looking to rent out a two-bed, three-bath
Starting point is 00:10:28 unit, let me know. Holler at your girl, because I'll be renting out my space for a little bit. Furnished or unfurnished, we can chat about that. But yeah, life is crazy. If you would have told me a year ago on Paradise that Thomas and I would be doing all of this in a span of a year, I would have told you that you're high and wouldn't have believed you. even more so because you broke up with me on Paradise. So I see how that would make things even harder to foresee. The plot twist of a century. Oh, the plot thickens.
Starting point is 00:10:58 Yeah. So before I bring our guests on and kick you off, Thomas, I do want to share one more thing because we, in the past week, we went to Nashville. CMA Fest. We went to the CMA Fest, and we had such a fun time. It was a quick, what, 36 hours, but we were able to see Tia and Taylor and Serena was there. So we spent some time with them and just had a grand old time around Nashville. And what was the highlight of your trip?
Starting point is 00:11:26 Oh, my gosh. Breakfast sandwiches at the Virgin Hotel. Oh, yeah. Well, I love country music. So just the energy of the CMA Fest and just the stages everywhere. And then just being able to wander and see so much awesome things in a city that we enjoy. Yeah. It was cool.
Starting point is 00:11:43 We were there for, I mean, for the show, for the Boud Charette. And unfortunately, we didn't get. to see. Well, the Bachelorettes. The Bachelorette's poor, yes. We have two this year. We didn't get to see Gabby and Rachel because they went there a few days after we left. But if you stopped by the booth, I mean, let us know what you thought. Like, they went all out. It was so cool. They had the actual car that Gabby and Rachel drove in their promo shoot. They had, like, fun games. They had a screen printing t-shirt press where Thomas was working hard, making all these t-shirts, sling them up. amount for all the ladies there. I may or may not have found a new calling in life.
Starting point is 00:12:22 Yeah, I'm honestly not surprised. I thought we were going to come back from Nashville and I'd walk down into our garage and Thomas was going to have a t-shirt printing press in the basement. Well, that'd be irresponsible to do before we move. I mean, let us get settled in the new place first and we'll figure that one out. Oh, yeah, new side hustle. What would you put on shirts if you made them for people? Easy. People's dogs faces on their faces. Wait, the dog's face. Wait, the dog's on the human face? Yeah. Have you seen the,
Starting point is 00:12:51 has anyone seen the portraits of like where you have the dog and it's like a royalty portrait where it's like the dog in like the high-necked gown with a crown or something? That's just how Leo dresses in the morning sometimes.
Starting point is 00:13:02 That's very true. Leo and Minot are royalty. All right, Tommy, before we let you go though, we have a slew of fan questions that we just keep in the back burner for when we have fun guests like you on. And one of the things
Starting point is 00:13:17 that I've personally gotten and I know that The Bachelor Happy Hour page has gone is we've talked about our proposal and the engagement and they've heard a lot of my side of things but from your point of view how does it feel to get proposed to? Oh, it's the most flattering thing
Starting point is 00:13:33 I've experienced. It did something I genuinely was blown away. I didn't see it coming. I didn't expect it and it just felt so just normal and just right. It was a big confidence boost to me. One, just because it was such a special moment, and two, it really to show you really do have my back. And when you say you want a 50-50 relationship and you
Starting point is 00:13:56 always want to show that I'm loved and care for, that's just not lip service. You do things like propose to me. Like you're willing to do above and beyond anything that most people would project as a normal behavior, whatever normal is. And it's amazing. Because it really does keep me on my toes and I think that's one of the reasons why we have so much fun in life because it's just anything could happen on any given day and it's just that was well exhibit A is the smyrna off ice on their anniversary. It's practically the same thing as it's like you yes I agree wait I actually am curious to know because I've never even asked you this when did it finally sink in for you that were engaged in a very untraditional way because
Starting point is 00:14:42 even when I proposed to you in that moment you know we've talked about this is like how joy filled you were and you were just laughing for so long like when did it actually sink in where you were like I'm a fiance and this girl flipped the switch well you use the word unconventional and I would say that never actually sunk in and that wasn't never a thought that I have really had just because I have nothing to compare it to like this is my only experience in an engagement so for me it just feels the way it's supposed to be because it's just I don't know any better and I mean that and just the pure is just straightforward way. So, I mean, we're not necessarily the most traditional people.
Starting point is 00:15:24 I'm not necessarily the most orthodox person to begin with. The most. The most. The most orthodox. The most orthodox. Words are hard. They are hard. But it's something, no, it didn't feel odd.
Starting point is 00:15:38 It doesn't feel unconventional. It feels right. I mean, we had a moment to celebrate our love and continue to progressive forward. And to me, that's always going to feel right. I have a totally random question. Did you just do the dishes? Because I can smell the sponge on your hands. That's so a weird thing.
Starting point is 00:15:56 Yes, I did the dishes. Two, I think I need to go replace the sponges. Yeah. Wow. It has such a distinct smell. Fair. Okay. All right, Thomas.
Starting point is 00:16:09 Oh, wow, this is the question. We've actually gotten this a lot, but I want you to answer this, because I've said my side of things. But now that we're engaged, would we get married in paradise? Would we get married in paradise? I think anyone who's followed us closely since the time we've gotten together, no, we want a lot more of an intimate, just a family close-knit reception where it's just for us. Well, ceremony you mean, not reception.
Starting point is 00:16:39 Yes. I know our ceremony won't be in paradise, but who's to say we won't have a massive celebratory reception or a party on the beach sometime i mean okay i'm probably going to say no to that well i did we define paradise you know what i mean oh bachelor paradise yeah coming back september 27th just announced oh no best plug for the show yeah so i i don't necessarily see us doing anything in front of cameras to that extent it's something our relationship always just been for us i mean that was the cool thing about well if there's any silver lining about breaking up on paradise it's just just We had no expectations of anything after that.
Starting point is 00:17:20 We got to choose to do things our own way. But I will say, and we've been asked this before, like if we would just go down for an appearance or just do something there. And we definitely would be open to it. And I think we're both around the same page is because the food down there is so freaking incredible. It's some of the best food I've ever had. Well, I would say we would go. I would say I would go because it was one of the most transformed of 30-day periods
Starting point is 00:17:47 my life. I enjoyed every moment of those, and those are memories I hold fondly, but I guess the food's great, too. It's so crazy to think about, too. So, I mean, I know we just briefly mentioned Thomas's 30th birthday coming up. And last year, we were in Paradise for your birthday, and for any of the listeners who don't understand, like, we're filming 24-7, so we're up to like three, four, five in the morning, most nights just constantly filming and having conversations with everyone. And Thomas and I, on his birthday, when it turned midnight, we had been laying just on the beach talking for hours.
Starting point is 00:18:25 And I knew it was going to be his birthday, but I didn't have a clock by me. And so I totally forgot about it. And I was like, walking with the girls on the beach. And I was like, holy shit, it's Thomas's birthday. And so I pulled him to the beach bar. Wells poured out shots for everyone. And we all sing him happy birthday. And I think you had said, like, that was one of the most special birthday moments you've
Starting point is 00:18:45 ever had. Yeah. That's wild that's a year ago. Historically, birthdays haven't been my favorite thing, just for whatever reason. I don't necessarily like the attention on me, and then there's just some negative stuff around birthdays as a kid growing up. So just to have that moment when I said those 30 days were some of the most transformative and just happiest days in my life. I mean it. Oh.
Starting point is 00:19:07 Oh, God, you're going to make me cry because I broke up with you. Yeah, you're a monster, but that's neither here nor there. Look at us now. Wow, I'm really tearing up right now. Damn. Yeah. 30, oh my gosh, that's so crazy. We are all over the place.
Starting point is 00:19:24 Okay, another question. Would you potentially be open to having a bachelor or bachelorette party in paradise? Oh, hell yeah. That one. That's another story. That would be fun. That would be, if Rodney, I don't know if he's on the beach or not, but if Rodney is there, I'm definitely in. Just Rodney, that's the only thing.
Starting point is 00:19:45 It's just going to be a Thomas and Rodney Bachelor party with me running around going wild. Yeah, oh, fuck. Oh, I can't swear on this, but I want to swear on this. I would absolutely have a bachelor party in paradise. Wait, but I would want Ronnie to be at my bachelor's party.
Starting point is 00:19:58 No. I'm going to fight him for you. I'm going to fight him for me. That's not a good way to get him to go. Another reason. Checked. Oh, yeah. Now, if I don't have a bachelor party in paradise,
Starting point is 00:20:11 I'm going to be like, damn. That could be fun. Oh, that'd be awesome. Oh, wow. I would want to come to your bachelor's party. You're not coming to my bachelor party. Well, yeah. I mean, I'm going to be like the creeper in the background with the binoculars.
Starting point is 00:20:24 You're going to be hiding in a cake somewhere. You're ready to pop out. Exactly. Security. Well, Thomas, I love having you on. Thank you for coming in for a little bit. I know it's a wonky week, but I feel like our listeners love having you on. They love to hear guys respect this.
Starting point is 00:20:39 I don't know why, but I'm glad to be here. I brought him in last minute. I was like, Thomas, do you have a couple minutes to join me today? And he said, hell yeah, so. What was that accent you just did on that question? Did I do an accent? Thomas, do you have a couple moments to join me today? I didn't say like that, didn't it?
Starting point is 00:20:55 That's how I heard it. I couldn't do it. I was just thinking of how I asked you where you were. My inhalers running low, my head, spinning a little bit. I don't know. I think I got to get out of here. All right, Thomas, thanks for being on Happy Hour. We love you.
Starting point is 00:21:10 I'll see you soon. All right, Happy Hour. It is that time when we have. have to bring our fun guests on. And I'm so excited to be speaking with Arushia Skidmore Williams and Brooke Sifrin today. They're both comedians and hosts of two podcasts. One is The Rich and Daily podcast, which covers anything and everything that is happening in celebrity news. And they also do the podcast, even The Rich, which is a series that tells the stories of major moments in pop culture history, including, and just to name a few, because they have so many, Janet Jackson
Starting point is 00:21:43 and the Super Bowl halftime show, the free Brittany movement, the life and loves of Elizabeth Taylor, and so much more. And their most recent season is actually diving into the story of Elton John that just dropped. So I can't wait to talk to them more about that and pick their brain. And plus, Eretia and Brooke are huge Bachelor fans. So I can't wait to get into all the things of Bachelor with them and hear their thoughts on everything going on in this world and how they feel about. the new season coming out. So without further ado, Bachelor Happy Hour listeners, please welcome Arescia and Brooke. All right, you two. Welcome to Bachelor Happy Hour. I'm so excited to have you here. I know Michelle wishes she could be part of this, but in the meantime, you just get me. And so
Starting point is 00:22:31 it's so great to welcome you both. Just to fill everybody in on how you both are doing, give us a little update on life and everything. Well, we just got back from an Airbnb this morning and sounds exciting yeah this is this story is going to rivet you i don't like to pay to do my laundry so i brought literally like six to 10 loads to do and the washing machine didn't work so i have now been going up and down my stairs for the last like two hours doing laundry and that's how i'm doing right now oh gosh it's important to note that the Airbnb is in the city that we live in literally like five minutes from our yeah it was a mile and a half was it just a little staycation. Yeah, one of our producers from Rich and Daily was in town from Canada. So we're like,
Starting point is 00:23:18 oh, let's get an Airbnb. Let's have like a Rich and Daily house and is literally 10 minutes from both of our apartments. It's like we just, you know, that's so fun though. It's just like a getaway, you know, and you still know the area and so you still feel comfortable. So you just mentioned one of the podcasts, but one of the reasons why I'm so excited to have you both here today is because we not only love supporting other podcasts, but especially supporting our fellow women in the podcasting space. And so you have both hosted two podcasts together, Rich and Daily, and even the Rich. So fill all of the listeners in who don't know.
Starting point is 00:23:53 How did you two meet? How did you decide to start podcasting together in the first place? So we met doing valet parking for like rich people, celebrities. And we hit it off right away. And then we became roommates. And ironically enough, Becca, the first time we podcasted together, together was a Bachelor podcast. Really?
Starting point is 00:24:17 And guess what season? Wait, was it mine? It wasn't yours, but it was the season where you were introduced to our, where we were all introduced to you. He who must not be named. He who must not be named, correct. I was like, how can I say this without saying sorry? So it's really crazy that we're now like on your podcast.
Starting point is 00:24:38 It's just really, yeah. So that was our first journey into podcast. And of course, we adore you. It went spectacularly. And we still do. I know. We were such fans. If you can, you should listen to it.
Starting point is 00:24:51 It's so good. And I am being as sarcastic as possible. God, I don't even remember what we said. But so we did one season of The Bachelor. And then we saw posting in a Facebook group. They were looking for comedic duos to talk about rich families and dynasties. And we were like, oh, my God, this is us. We already do this for free.
Starting point is 00:25:13 Yeah, we already do this. So we sent in an audition and the rest is history. I love that. So I want to ask you both this then because, I mean, I can kind of relate. I'm a lot newer in the podcasting space because I've just been doing this for a couple of years now. But what have you learned or what would you have told yourself or what advice would you have given yourself five, six years ago when you first started podcasting to get you to where you are today? Where to start, Becca. Where to start.
Starting point is 00:25:41 So much knowledge up here. I think, I mean, the most important thing, and I think it applies across the spectrum, whether you're doing independent podcasts, professionally produced podcasts, is to do something you actually enjoy talking about because it can get so tiring if you don't like your subject. Like, I mean, it's exhausting. And it's your, it becomes your job. And even if you're not actually getting paid, it's still kind of like a job. So I think having passion.
Starting point is 00:26:10 And it's focused less on like, what is everyone else going to want to hear or see and focus on like, what do, what story do I want to tell? And how do I want to tell it? Yeah, I feel like if you're like authentically into what you're doing and you are yourself, the listeners will come and they'll stay. Yeah. And also don't look at reviews. I was going to say, oh, hey, that is anything that I have learned or that I could tell people from a show, from a podcast from anything is don't. don't read the fine print. Yeah. It's dicey out there. Yeah. What people think of you is none of your business. So just don't even look. Well, and you both probably know this and have experienced this, but you can do anything. You could do the most amazing thing or say the most incredible thing on this planet. And you will get haters and drolled on like crazy.
Starting point is 00:27:04 You know, there's just really no winning, especially being in the public eye and like on social media and having such a platform that it's just like it's one of our business right exactly oh my gosh well so for anyone that enjoys pop culture even the rich is such a must listen and you both have done what is it 28 seasons now you're on the 28th yeah we're on the 28th yeah yeah which is absolutely incredible kudos to you both for sticking with it and loving with it it's such a fun thing to listen to what has been your favorite seasons that you've done I so for the longest time my favorite was Versace and it's shifted twice now in the last two arcs. It went to Maryland and then it went to Dolly. So currently my favorite is Dolly. Okay.
Starting point is 00:27:55 But I think that's just because I love, I've always been like, oh yeah, Dolly's cool, but I've never been as huge of a Dolly stand as Dolly stands are. But after like learning about her, it's like, yeah. Oh, hell yeah. She's amazing. This woman slaps. Yeah. Wow, you were so hip, Aresha. I know. Yeah, same as Aresha. I've always loved Versace. And then we recently did Patty Hurst, which I didn't know a lot about. And I love cults. I'm so interested in cult. So that was like a nice mix of our show and also like someone trapped in a cult. I was like, okay, I think this is my new favorite. A little mystery action too. Yeah. Yeah, I like when we can kind of bring in some like true crime and other stuff. It's fine. I love that. So for listeners who haven't yet, yet checked it out. Is there one also standout season that you'd be like, this is the one you have to start with,
Starting point is 00:28:46 the one that you have to listen to? I'd say don't start at the beginning. No. It's so funny because I think the most feedback I get about people's favorite seasons is the first one, which is so weird to me because if you listen to the first season versus now, it sounds like a different show. Yeah. So I'm sure.
Starting point is 00:29:09 but so I don't know I feel like Free Brittany is probably the season that I don't want to say like got us any notoriety but it got us to the listener count we're at now like that was a very because it was during her conservatorship it was a very publicized thing
Starting point is 00:29:26 yeah and I think that's probably the one I think it has the most downloads so I feel like that's a safe one to start with what are some seasons that you've worked on that have really surprised you or like we're it took a turn and you're like, holy crap, I did not expect this.
Starting point is 00:29:43 Well, this isn't really in even the rich rich rich and daily realm, but we did a mini series called In God We Lust with Wondery also. And that one took a turn for me because it started like about like this religious university and just all the stuff that was going on.
Starting point is 00:30:00 But then it took like a dark turn at the end. And I was like, whoa, okay. A lot of like sexual assault allegations, things like that. And I was like, wow, this took a really big turn for me. Um, but in terms of like even the rich, I'd say Paris Hilton probably surprised me the most just because we all have this view of Paris Hilton. And we learned so much about her during doing the show and like, you know, she was in Provo Canyon school when she was a kid and she was
Starting point is 00:30:27 like abused. She was trapped there. She couldn't get out. And it really changed my opinion of her and my view of her 100%. Yeah. And also just she, you know, you know, has this persona about her where people think she's just like this entitled heiress and, you know, maybe to an extent that exists. But she also works really hard. And I never realized like how hard she worked. So I think that that's something that came out in that arc. Interesting. Oh, my gosh. I feel like even the rich has something for everyone. Yeah. Like anyone could take a listen and pick a certain season and find it intriguing and learn something new, which I absolutely love that. And so the most current season, the 20th season
Starting point is 00:31:14 now, is the story of Elton John. I actually just did an ad for this for our podcast before you all joined. Yeah. But what is one of the craziest things that you've learned about Elton? Because even reading the ad, I didn't realize he had such a dark upbringing. And there was, you know, more skeletons in his closet. So even knowing that, I'm like, oh my gosh, I definitely need to give this a listen to now. Yeah. Yeah. So what's the craziest thing that you've learned about him in the research in this season? I realize the only thing that I really knew about him was that he was Reginald Dwight. Like that's like the only fact that I can procure other than like the songs that he sings. So I'm constantly just like, oh wow, oh shit. Oh my God. And I mean I like I've
Starting point is 00:32:03 always been a big fan of his. I grew up and I had a friend who was obsessed with him. But I don't know. I guess his upbringing definitely, as well as that I didn't know he had been married to a woman. Yeah. I had no idea that was something that happened in his life. Yeah. I don't think I realized how dark it was for him. Like growing up and early in his career.
Starting point is 00:32:27 Like I just know him as like who he is now. Just out and proud and love and life and like making amazing songs. So really his whole story, I think. thing. It's just been kind of surprising the whole way. I'm like, Arisha. I'm like, oh, okay. Wow. I think it'll, I think it'll definitely throw not our listeners,
Starting point is 00:32:46 because I'm not tuning with you, but your listeners for a loop and definitely, I mean, so my fiance Thomas is a huge Elton John fan. And so now knowing a bit more, I'm like, oh, damn, like he's been through some shit. Yeah. And I also love, too, that it's coming out
Starting point is 00:33:02 at this point during Pride Month. What does that mean to you both to be telling his story during this month. It's important because we pushed for Elton for so long. Like he was one on our list. We're like, can we please do Elton? Can we please do Elton? And we were talking about wanting to do like a queer icon during Pride.
Starting point is 00:33:20 And there was some other names tossed around. And I was like, come on. Like, this is time to do Elton. And it's like he's just such an icon. And he's the first male that we've done in a while. Like a lot of our stories have been about women. And so it's really nice and, like, very important, I think, to tell his story right now. So it's amazing.
Starting point is 00:33:42 I love it. I love that. So is there a topic or somebody that you hope to do that's on your bucket list to come up in one of the upcoming seasons? I have been begging for the Olson twins. I knew. I, they are like, I grew up with them. I felt connected to them because I, I liked twins.
Starting point is 00:34:06 That's the only connection that I had with them. Which is enough, I would think. But it hasn't happened yet, and I'm holding out. I love that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:17 Did you grow up watching like old school, old school Mary Kay and Ashley where they were like six or seven and they did like their mystery? Yes, the adventures of Mary Kate and Ashley Olson. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:29 I saw that. I saw, I know their theme song. Brooke questioned whether I seen so little time, I have seen all one season of it. Yeah, it was like such a short-lived sitcom. And I saw it. I loved them. I think
Starting point is 00:34:45 it takes two was recently on Netflix, I'm pretty sure. It was. Yes. I re-watched it. It was like, it was a few months ago, right? Yeah. I mean, I probably watched it with, I mean, for sure, within the past year, I want to say, definitely. Yeah. Oh my gosh. I still love their style
Starting point is 00:35:02 too. Like, even, you know how the 90s kind of coming back now. Like I just bought sunglasses, like the oval, like bright red ones, like what they used to wear with the buggy. I was like, oh, I'm so great. And they would have the like butterfly clips in their hair, which I tried to emulate.
Starting point is 00:35:18 It's very hard when you have curly hair. Let me tell you. I haven't seen, I haven't seen any butterclips. Any butterfly clips lately. So I don't think, I don't know if those are coming back, but I did just buy some 90 style jeans. Oh, here we go. These jeans. They're amazing.
Starting point is 00:35:34 Do they have, like, the patches? They don't have patches. They're just, like, kind of ripped, but they're, like, boyfriend jeans, so they're a little loose. They're from Abercrombie, which is very 90s. I was like, really saying really staying on brand. I'm seriously buying jeans from Abercrombie right now, but they came highly recommended, and they're amazing. Okay, so I do want to get into because you said that you first started up podcasting with the Bachelor franchise and covering that. So were you fans of the show since the beginning, or when did you get a new?
Starting point is 00:36:04 involved in in bachelor nation i think i'm trying to remember what my first season was not the beginning but i know i was watching very early on like maybe season like three of the bachelor and then i was watching it a lot i think erisha came in later yeah i i can't remember what my first season was i think it was it was when i was working at the talent agency because they did uh uh what are those called were you like, like what they do for sports? Oh, a bracket. Yes. Oh, oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:37 Wow. They did a bracket. Go sports. Yeah, sports. Such a fan. I love them all. They did a bracket and I was like, oh, this is fun. The bracket part.
Starting point is 00:36:48 And I was terrible because I didn't know what I was doing. But I, the only season, I might have seen two where I watched, I watch like every single episode. Okay. So, from what you've seen, are there any iconic moments that stick out to either of you from any of the seasons? I mean, unfortunately, Becca. I know. How do we answer this question with you on the call? This is awkward. Just saying, I'm so used to it.
Starting point is 00:37:22 Like, that's even how people refer to me as still to this day is, like, the one who got broken up. Well, yeah. Wait, wait, I was referring to calling this guy pillow lips. That was the most memorable thing. Wait, who was pillow lips? Ari, everyone called him pillow lips for some reason. Did they? Yes, unfortunately, and we never forgot it.
Starting point is 00:37:44 Becca's reaction suggests that it's false advertising. Wait, I'm trying to think. I mean, I've never rewatched that season, so I could be the wrong person as. Yeah. But was it the girls on his season, or was it, when he was a contestant, like the five years prior. I want to say it started when he was a contestant, but the girls on his season were talking about it.
Starting point is 00:38:10 We're calling him pillow lips. All the guys on his, when he was a contestant, were like, look at this guy's lips. They're like pillows. Oh, my God. So, but all I remember is that one of the girls on Ari's season, she called him, he'll be the on the season. And so when it was my season,
Starting point is 00:38:28 And he actually came to the Maldives for like a 30 minute conversation that never aired. But I just remember there was a bunch of needlefish down below where I was staying. And there was like a glass bottom and you could just see them floating around. And the cameramen would just zone in on this needlefish. My God. Fun fact. That's amazing. All I'm getting from this is I need to get on this show so I can get flown to Maldives for 30 minutes.
Starting point is 00:38:55 And then I'll just tack on a vacation to the end of it. Well, or you could kill two birds with one stone, come to Paradise next year, be part of vaccination, bartend, kick off a date, whatever, and you'll do it all. Yeah. We are bartenders, so. Are you? Watch out. Yeah, she had our own company.
Starting point is 00:39:13 Damn. Wait, tell me more about this. Yeah, so I was poor and I was like, I got to make money. And so classic scenario. Yeah, but the real struggle is, do I want to work for other people? because that's a nightmare um so i was like you know what i'm going to start a private event bartending company and so erisha worked for me my husband worked events and we like really built the business pretty big we had like a very nice client roster and we were doing events on weekends a lot of weddings
Starting point is 00:39:45 a lot of crazy parties it was really fun yeah it was fun yeah i feel like you know you are both jacks of all trades a jack of all trades like that L.A. where you met to this private bartending job to podcasting. So did podcasting just kind of take over? Because you do have the two, I can imagine
Starting point is 00:40:08 it takes up most of your time now. Yeah. Podcasting it would have been real rough. Like I can't imagine going through the pandemic if I didn't have even the rich to start. Like I would have been, oh, who knows
Starting point is 00:40:24 where. Yeah, yeah. I know. It's like besides going through the pandemic and being like, okay, when can I take a nap today? What am I going to make for dinner? Oh, it's five. I can have a margarita. I so looked forward to the weekly podcast just to keep me somewhat sane. Yeah. I can totally relate.
Starting point is 00:40:40 Absolutely. Okay. So I need to ask you both this because it's big news in the world of Bachelor nation because we've never had two leads on the same season at the same time. So how do you both feel about that? Are you excited about seeing the two women? I am I yeah I'm I'm mostly excited because I'm always excited when I think an idea is original because I feel like there's so few in this day and age and I was like why has no one thought to make it too like that seems genius to me yeah I mean I I I feel like the bachelor needs it is shakeup yeah so I think this will be like a fun shakeup I mean I'm I love paradise like Bachelor and Paradise is my jam like it is to me that superior bachelor show because it's just so good and it's like it really is seeing multiple people
Starting point is 00:41:31 look for love I think is more interesting so I do think it's going to be more exciting to have two bachelorets yeah well and yeah like to play into paradise there's so many different love stories there's so many different bits of drama that I think it just hooks viewers better you know if you just have one or two storylines week after week it kind of gets repetitive and old. And so I think this season will definitely deliver more than we've ever seen. I was actually asked this question the other day. And I want to ask you both it now, too, because I think it was a good one. So obviously, we'll have two bad charades. How would you feel about having two male leads at the same time? For some reason, I feel like it would be more dramatic. I don't know why.
Starting point is 00:42:16 But it's probably, well, women fighting over two men now, not just one. Yeah. I feel like A group of female contestants brings better drama than a group of male contestants. Male contestant drama isn't as interesting to me. I feel like it's shorter lived. It is. With women, it's like, well, like, I'm really into this person and, oh, I might have a boyfriend. It just feels like the drama is like more drawn out and more, I'm more engaged with it than I am with the men. They really need to up their game, honestly.
Starting point is 00:42:52 they want to stay on this show. Well, so have you noticed a shift in recent seasons where the drama has been more extreme, more catty, just more dramatic in general to make for better TV? Yeah. It does feel like that. Like especially, and I hate that it's like the women because like, of course, like we're just catty. Or we're just more talented. Well, that's what I was going to say. I was actually going to compliment the women.
Starting point is 00:43:21 Like, I feel like we're smarter. and more cunning. So that comes out more as like a group of women. So I just think, I don't know, it's just better drama for some reason. And yeah, I do feel like it's been upped a little in the last couple of seasons. I don't know what that's about.
Starting point is 00:43:36 Definitely some of the stuff that is said and done. I'm like, what? How is this even a thing? Or who thinks of this? It just, I, you know, I feel like I can't be shocked being in the world of reality television anymore because we see and hear so much.
Starting point is 00:43:52 I'm still shocked season by season. Have you, either of you seen the cast come out for the new season of the men? Yes. I haven't looked through it fully, but I keep seeing all the social media posts about the men. I need to look at that better. Do you have any initial thoughts? Anyone that caught your eye? No.
Starting point is 00:44:14 So what you're saying is we need the drama for somebody to understand that. It's so crazy. I don't bother to learn their names until halfway through this. say the season oh i'm like hometowns give me four people that i know right yeah i'm honestly surprised i'm surprised i'm surprised that two female um bachelettes aren't both named loren like that seemed like a lost opportunity they've done it they've found two people not named loren finally you know kudos to that kudos we don't need last name last name initials this season if you could see a celebrity on the show as either a lead or contestant
Starting point is 00:44:51 who would it be? I feel like, although I guess she's engaged now, but I feel like Lizzo would be such a fun bachelorette. Oh, hell, yeah. Yeah, I guess she's engaged or something. I don't think I saw that. Maybe she has any secret relationships
Starting point is 00:45:06 without telling me. She was on a red carpet and she had like this ring on her ring finger. Maybe it's a promise ring. I don't know, but there's some guy she's been. Is it somebody from the Minnesota Vikings? Oh my God, I wish.
Starting point is 00:45:21 Better be. Otherwise, I don't, I don't support this. Otherwise, redo, redo. Yeah. That's like my one thing because I'm from Minnesota. I'm like, Lizzo knows Minnesota. She put us on the map. My husband lived in Minnesota for many years.
Starting point is 00:45:40 What area? Apple Valley. Oh, yeah. That's where my aunt and uncle lives. Apple Valley sounds so kind and just quaint. Yeah, just the Apple Valley. Make pie. Well, Becca, didn't you take someone apple picking? I did. Yes. He who shall not be named. I can remember if it was your season or? It was my season. And there was, I mean, because we went to Minnesota in November. I was like, what can we do here? And it was definitely not the right time to go because I don't even think there was apples on the trees. They were all dead. And it was freezing. I was like, this is the worst idea ever, Becca. But yes. But they made the most of it. We had whiskey in the apple cider, which was great. Well, I think I saw
Starting point is 00:46:23 a PA in the background just hanging up fake apples in the tree. Probably. I would be surprised. I love that, though. That's like such a fall. I mean, obviously not with snow, but that's such a fall activity. Yeah. It's like so cute. If it was a month prior, it would have been perfect. And beautiful and apples would have actually
Starting point is 00:46:39 been ripe and edible, but I mean, it worked. I mean, it worked. It worked. It worked. I mean, it did, you know. It was foreshadowing for that relationship. So yeah. There you go. Exactly. God. Wait, Eresia, who would be your dream celebrity cast or lead? Well, I'm, I'm really on a Chris Evans kick right now. So only if I get to be a contestant that gets put up to win. So I'd have to have some kind of contract. Put up to win.
Starting point is 00:47:10 The Neil Lane ring at the end. Yeah. Yeah. I have been trying to. I've been commenting. I was telling Brooke, I'm commenting on his posts as if I'm already dating him. And I have have now four messages from Chris Evans's four different accounts obviously they're all him saying hello so I don't know what to tell you but he's messaged you back well people that are that think they're him so I'm like one step closer fake accounts they're fake accounts but have you sent into his no not yet not yet I don't want I want it like our first message needs to be cute because it's going to be referenced at our wedding obviously okay um so I'm thinking on that right
Starting point is 00:47:51 now and just, you know, working things out with these fake Chris Evans, getting all the kinks out before I shoot my shot. I think it's really cute that you think the first thing that'll be mentioned is your first DM and not that you've been commenting like a crazy person on his post as if you're a couple. Well, I want to ask you this. So because this is a Bachelor podcast and you are fans, and I will get into a Rosenthorn with you both, but put me in the hot seat. And is there anything that you want to ask me?
Starting point is 00:48:21 I wish Michelle was here, too, to answer. But is there anything that you want to ask or know that you've just been dying to find out whether it's bachelor-related as a contestant as a lead or from paradise? How much time do we have? Hey, the world is your oyster. Okay, first question, why aren't you guys allowed to eat the food? I knew. I was like, it's going to be the food question. I can't with that.
Starting point is 00:48:45 Is that for, like, continuity? Well, so that's actually like the number one question we always get. So when you're filming, the camera crew and team will go and set up all of everything early before the couple even gets to wherever they're filming. And so they'll grab still shots of the table with the food and they really don't want you to move it around. So usually before each date, they'll have, I mean, like, because we're getting ready in the rooms, they'll have food for you. So you can order a room service if you're at a hotel, whatever. So they'll always feed us beforehand. but yeah on the actual dates it's like like a full fish fillet with the eyeballs and the mouth still
Starting point is 00:49:23 there and it just like is sitting there to look pretty far um there was one time I think I ate food on a date and it's because it was mac and cheese and it didn't look half bad um but yeah otherwise they'll feed you before and after I mean we're constantly eating on the show we really are it's just those like plated meals for the pretty shots and that's what I figure but I was like, you know what? I got Becca right here in front of me. Yeah. I really wish they would get closeups of them sometimes
Starting point is 00:49:53 because from afar they look lovely. It's like this full meal with all the sides and everything. But then close up, you're like, don't touch it. Yeah. All right. Yeah. What about you, Eurasia? We can ask anything, right?
Starting point is 00:50:08 Yes, I think so. This is not even an exciting question. But I feel like it's become more and more. obvious that people are going on this show less about finding love and more about getting that follow account up because that's really our only way to judge anybody's worth in this world now. So I want to know what was your reason? Were you genuinely on this show to find love? Or was it mostly to find love a little bit to get into whatever you wanted to get into? That's a good question. So when I went on, it was
Starting point is 00:50:46 in 2017. And so that was before TikTok. Like I barely knew how to use Twitter. I believe when I left for The Bachelor, I probably had like 438 followers. And so and it was before, and I think it was like at the time when like brand deals and collaborations like were starting. So you really didn't know where it was going to go. So when I personally left, I was in the mind frame of I had been like working at my same job for five, six years. I was over it. I wanted to change. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:51:22 I'm single now. Why not? Like, I was more so for the adventure. Like, I really actually was most excited to travel. Like, that's what I wanted to do. Yeah. And so I left thinking I was going to be gone for two weeks, being like, I'm going to travel. I'll hopefully meet some cool girls and, you know,
Starting point is 00:51:37 have some lasting friendships. Yeah. And so that's kind of my mindset. And then it wasn't, because I went straight from, basically straight from R.A. season as a contestant to right after filming my season. And it wasn't until I got off of my season where there was like all of the extra fun stuff on social media, like brand collaborations. And I was getting able to get paid off of that. And so that to me at that
Starting point is 00:52:05 point was just an added bonus because I was like, oh, this is cool. I didn't know what to expect. I just thought I was going to go back to my old nine to five PR job. But yeah, when I went on, I was so naive. So naive. That's like how we started this podcast. Yeah. Yeah. You have no idea what you're getting it to. But don't you think it's kind of better that way where it's like you're just excited about it to see what would happen.
Starting point is 00:52:27 If it fails or goes to shit, you know, at least you gave it a shot. Yeah. So that's, I kind of like that. You know, I kind of like that I went in back in 2017 where it wasn't a major thing at that point. I also kind of feel like, granted, you're literally the only person on this show that I've ever talk to but I feel like the ones that do make it far and have the kind of success that you've had came in with that mindset like it wasn't like I just feel like because I think that's a really healthy mindset because it's I think it's kind of naive to be like I'm going to meet the love of
Starting point is 00:53:01 my life like maybe but like I'm doing this because I want to have fun and maybe like see some cool places make some friends I feel like that's the healthiest way to approach this kind of show yeah yeah well I Yeah, exactly. There's so many unknowns. You have no idea what a relationship with the lead is going to be like, what any relationship with cast members will be like. And so you kind of like just go with no expectations. That's like what I tell people going in in paradise. Like don't have a set plan. Don't be like I'm going to find a partner or I'm going to leave with the ring on my finger or I'm going to build my following with 100,000 extra followers. Like we've seen that with people in the past and it's truly never worked out. for anyone in that regard, if that's the case. Yeah. So, yeah. Do you feel, Becca, like it was easier to be a contestant, the Bachelorette, or on Paradise?
Starting point is 00:53:56 Paradise. 1,000. Well, and actually as a contestant on The Bachelor, because, again, I had no idea what I was in for. I was like, hopefully I'll have some free food, meet some people, and travel. You know, like, hopefully I stick around long enough to, like, make it somewhere fun. Yeah. But, and so that part was so much fun. but Paradise I kind of had a better understanding of just how things were filmed and but Paradise I already knew some of my friends that were going to be down there too so I already went in and be like it's going to be a fun summer I had zero expectations because I kept saying no to it so I was like well I'm you know so I'm going to go back to my life that I love after this but Paradise was such a blast it's like summer camp for adults with alcohol and like hot people to look at on the beach yeah they need to make that like not just
Starting point is 00:54:43 for the 30 people in the Bachelor nation. Open enough for everyone. Like a Normie's version. Yeah. Normies in paradise. I wish they would have more people honestly on the beach
Starting point is 00:54:55 because it's so much fun. It's just like a funfong vacation. It's yeah. It was now so fast. All right, you two. It has been so much fun. But before we let you both go,
Starting point is 00:55:07 we do this with all of our listeners, sorry, all of our guests where we ask them the Rose and Thorn of their week. So highlight, favorite moment, and then low light or least favorite, worst moment of the week. So I'll start it to make it easy. I'm going to start with my thorn. I'm going to say, oh, shit, I don't even know if I have a thorn, to be honest.
Starting point is 00:55:28 Wow. Bragg. Hang on. A thorn would be, wow, I really need to put some thought into this. I'm just going to give a rose this week. I mean, so many fun things have happened. But Thomas and I celebrated our one-year anniversary and his dirty 30 birthday.
Starting point is 00:55:53 Nice. So that's, it's just been a good week. I don't even want to taint it with a thorn. You know, we covered you, Becca, on an episode of Rich and Daily. Did you? We covered your engagement. Oh, I'll have to check that one. Oh, shit.
Starting point is 00:56:09 Yeah. Oh, wait, what were your thoughts? I mean, we loved it. Yeah. Like, we were all for it. And I even said, I think, on the show, like, I loved you guys in Paradise. I was like, we finally got to see a different side of Thomas, and I'm here for it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:25 So I'm glad it's working out. Well, we'll check that one out. Thank you. He'll be thrilled. He'll appreciate that so much. We assume that this will be enough to get invites to the wedding, which is why we pushed our producers to let us cover it. Or at least bartend. You're in.
Starting point is 00:56:39 We'll dust off the bar kit. No, I want you all to have. fun too. So don't you. I'm not going to put you to work. Okay. We're going to have a good time. All right. Okay. Who wants to take it away? Rose and Thorne. Do you have one or each? I don't have one yet. I can go. Okay. So Thorne would probably be, so this Airbnb that we rented, our friend that's in from Canada literally went to this TV premiere yesterday for like six hours.
