Listen to Help from Hypocrite Wednesdays on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back to Bachelor Happy Hour. I'm Rachel. And I'm Charity. And today we have the most special guests. Honestly, I can't even believe I'm like doing this interview.
Starting point is 00:03:24 You guys don't understand. He has been styling The Bachelor from the beginning. Everyone welcome our fairy god. Godfather, Carrie. No. No, literally this is like a dream come true. And like, you know how much we love you. Like, you know.
Starting point is 00:03:38 And you know how you all mean to me. You know, I don't have to even pretend. This is coming so pure from my heart. The love that I have for each one of you. And I know you all think that I love the other one better. You don't understand. But maybe Rachel just like a little bit more. Rachel, well, Rachel is something special.
Starting point is 00:03:59 Correct. We love her. I mean, we love her too. So I'm like, I get it. I feel like you and Rachel were like our dream guest when they asked us. Who would you want to sit down with? No. Could you imagine Rachel and I?
Starting point is 00:04:09 No. Oh, together. That's an extreme. We did say, we did tell her that we were going to do one with you and she was going to say, I wanted, she said she wanted to come. But it's okay. We were doing this in person. This is good. Yeah, this is, this is perfect.
Starting point is 00:04:21 I think that I'm in person with the two of you. This is why I don't do podcasts. I know, but I'm like, I'm honored. Honor. I'm honored. Thank you. for inviting me. Of course.
Starting point is 00:04:31 We'll see how I come out at the end. Oh no, you're going to be perfect. It'll be great. No, this is going to be like the most talked about episode because I feel like everybody wants to know the behind the scenes of like our looks, our fashion.
Starting point is 00:04:43 Like every bachelor obviously has had different styles and like you are like the visionary behind that. But obviously you have to deal with us beforehand getting there. So there's a lot. There's a lot that goes into that. So honestly, take us to the back to the very beginning, Carrie. How did you even get involved with The Bachelor franchise?
Starting point is 00:05:02 I was only doing celebrity stylist. I was doing Sarah Jessica during Sex and the City. I had Julie Louis Dreyfus during all of the years of Seinfeld. And then I went on to Lisa Kudra when she was doing friends. So I was just kind of busy in that world, not ever doing them for on the show. I never wanted to be on a costume show. I mean, I never wanted a costume. But dressing them for the red carpet.
Starting point is 00:05:29 and anything that they went to, any parties where they were traveling someplace, it was a blast. And then I met Joan Rivers, and that completely changed my life. Joan and Melissa invited me to be on their show. And, like, I don't know what I got the nerve up to do it, because she was like the one person we all feared. There's not a stylist around that will not tell you that their greatest fear was what happened on Monday when Joan Rivers was on Fashion Police. And so the idea that I was going to be meeting with her. And then at the end of the show, she's like, why aren't you doing Melissa? And I was like, none of you ever called.
Starting point is 00:06:09 And three days later, there was a phone call. Oh, my goodness. And now 25 years later with her too. Wow. I think, yeah. Her kid wasn't even born in Cooper's already 25. Oh, my goodness. It's amazing how old I am.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Oh, stop. I'm like, he's aging backwards. literally looks fabulous all this time. I'm going through puberty. My hair is starting to curl again. Oh my gosh. Okay, so tell us how you got involved with The Bachelor. So I just got this phone call one day from Brooke Carson, who was the head of Warner Brothers for this, and this was her baby. She had introduced it, and she was the main person from Warner Brothers. And she said, I don't even know if you'd be interested in doing it, but would you ever think about it?
Starting point is 00:06:56 I'm like, yeah, I guess. Why not? And so the next day went on an interview and they asked me these questions. And I was like, what? Of course I can pack somebody for a week. Right. I mean, I'm sending people down a red carpet. I mean, for God's sake, doing six.
Starting point is 00:07:15 I think at that point they wanted me to do six dresses. I think it was six rows. And I was like, yeah, I think I can do that. I can handle this. And so they hired me. I never thought anything of it, just thought that. Because it was my first job interview. I'd never gone on a real job interview here since living in L.A.
Starting point is 00:07:33 And I guess I never ran on a job interview in Chicago either. Wow. I opened my own store at 19. So I guess this was my first real job interview. And I thought, okay, you ask questions that you answer and they hire you. And like, four years later, the executive producer came to me one day. And she's like, you know, I love you. And I'm like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:54 She's like, so don't take this from her. But didn't you wonder, like, why we hired you right away? I thought, I guess now I do. Yeah. Because you were such a, you were such an asshole about how you were answering. She's like, and we just knew. And I thought, I was being an asshole. Like, what?
Starting point is 00:08:13 You're probably just, like, so direct. You're like, what are we doing here? I mean, I'm like, what is the big deal about putting something in a gown? He's like, this is nothing. He goes, and? Literally. So I guess. I need to be a little more understated when I go on job interviews and it already happens again.
Starting point is 00:08:31 Wow. Now I'm 90 and so going on my next job interview probably soon. No. I mean, you're still here a decade later. So that's like an insane run. Like, do you understand how like... Yes, I hope it's not over yet. It's not.
Starting point is 00:08:46 It's far from. Yeah, it's not. Me too. Did you ever think from the first season that you would still be here going to Taylor's? No. No, you thought it was just going to be like, oh, I'm just doing this temporarily. Yeah, but I never thought I was ever going to last at anything. I always thought I was a little like an imposter.
Starting point is 00:09:05 I never understood what people kept thinking was so great about what I was doing. I was picking the most expensive, beautiful dresses. I mean, it's not like I was making them. I was just picking them. And I didn't have the last say. You guys always did. Yeah. So, I mean, the things that were picked were picked by all of you.
Starting point is 00:09:24 I think people don't know that. We're going to have to hammer that all this. Yeah, I think people really assume that it's like, oh, like, Carrie picks out all these outfits and he doesn't know the bachelorette's. And it's like, no, like, for me, you know I came in hot. I said, don't put me in that. Don't put me in that. I don't want it. I won't wear this.
Starting point is 00:09:42 I won't wear that. Don't do this. Right. And I was like, okay, knock your socks off. Cool. Yeah. And as she was pulling, I was kind of following and pulling my own things, things I thought maybe she missed.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Yeah. And that's the thing. That's what he's good at. He's good at like, okay, sometimes we get a little too far off the trail. He'll pull us back in. But he still lets us have, like, creative freedom in that, which I, for me, I appreciate it. Because I'm like, the last thing I can do is not feel good on a day or do anything and be, like, looking crazy. That's the whole point.
Starting point is 00:10:12 I mean, why would I push my clothes onto you? Now, if I think you're making a mistake, you know, I'll keep you in that. We're looking going, okay, do you like it better like this? Or do you like better like that? Do you want me to try and do that? Yep, yep, yep. And then finally you'll be like, do you want me to change the dress? Yep, yep, yep, yep.
Starting point is 00:10:31 Yeah, I don't think you look that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're very honest, though. Yeah, you are. But I at least let you pick. Yeah. I'm not the one going on a date. I'm not the one going on TV.
Starting point is 00:10:42 That's why I've never done that. I never wanted to be in front of the TV. I love being the puppet behind because it's just me kind of moving around. and just I'm not the puppet master yet. I'm just the puppet that just kind of pushes you a little. I think people don't understand, though, it's so much more than styling. Our time with you and with Gina is so important to the journey.
Starting point is 00:11:08 And I feel like having you just as an ear or just telling you how the date wearing or telling you how you're feeling. You never have an input. You just listen. And it is pivotal to like everyone's journey and all the bachelorette say that. Which is wonderful. I, this one I will take credit. Yes.
Starting point is 00:11:25 I've heard this from all of you so I know not to doubt it. But that's just out of true love. I mean, because the beauty is the wardrobe room is a safe place. And I've told every executive producer, do not come in, do not ask me what we talk about. Right. I'll never share. I will never go and repeat anything we talk about. Which is I think, it's like, and it's so important because it's like, obviously,
Starting point is 00:11:52 knows that we don't have like we have the producers and that's and we have ourselves and so it's like you guys and you specifically care it's like you're coming from like obviously like at that point in our journey you're like beyond like a friend you're like you are you are our fairy godfather so it's like it's beyond that but it's like you also come from a place of just like you don't have these biases like you know what i mean it's like the producers obviously like we love them but like you know they have they're making a show yeah they have a show to develop and it's like we can't call our moms and we do but like you know it's not as frequent as we would love We can't text our girlfriend.
Starting point is 00:12:23 So it's like, you become that for us. And it's like, oh, my gosh, I'm telling you this in confidence. I need someone who's going to be so real with me in this moment. And it's like, you don't hold back. I remember, like, literally, like, when we were in Fiji, I was like, I need you, Kerry. Please help me right now. Like, I need a moment. And it was just, like, literally just me and him.
Starting point is 00:12:41 Like, ear to ear, like, you never, never push us away. And Gina, too. I mean, you guys talk to Gina in the makeup. I get it's harder for her because she's doing your lips. She's doing things to you. Right. She's, but you guys share a lot. By the time you get to me, in fairness, I've already seen you physically naked and emotionally naked.
Starting point is 00:13:03 Genuinely. So there's nothing to hide from me. Right. And I am just there to listen. Will I tell you when you're wrong? Yeah. Sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:15 If I think you're going off the deep end, you bet I'm going to drag you back up. Right. Because I know how much pressure there is. I've been on this long enough to see what every season happens. And I know, like, at the time, it's going to happen. I know before hometowns. I know the difference between when it's a bachelor versus a bachelorette. You guys fall in love the first night.
Starting point is 00:13:37 I don't know how, but I have taken this test with almost every one of you. Give me your five top people on the first night. Three of them always make it to the last two episodes. He's not wrong. He's not wrong at all, which is crazy. I don't know if there's a smell. I don't know if there's a look. There's just something, though, that you guys know the second that guy gets out of the car.
Starting point is 00:14:03 There's something that just boom. And I've never seen it. It's rare. I think maybe one person did not have one of their top five from the beginning at the end. Starting point is 00:15:30 Since you guys are middle-aged, one erection. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Humor me. I need some jokes to make me seem funny. This is Saigon, the story of my family and of the country that shaped us. The United States will not stand by and allow any power, however great, take over another country. From My Heart Podcasts, Saigon.
Starting point is 00:16:04 Please allow me to introduce Joseph Sherman. You don't think I'm serious about a free Vietnam? I should stop talking so much. I like hearing you talk. One city, a divided country, and the war that tore America apart. This is for Vietnam. I've taken a hit from Japanese ground fire. They're pouring petrol all over him.
Starting point is 00:16:24 He's holding matches. I'm on a landmine. For free time. Let's get out. Freedom's bomb it. Saigon, starring Kelly Marie Tran and Rob Benedict. Sting here's madness. The world should hear about this.
Starting point is 00:16:40 There's a fire coming to this country and it's going to burn out everything. Listen to Saigon on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey everyone, it's Ryder Strong and Will Ferdell from PodMeets World. And now the PodMeets Twirled podcast. We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV, who now have covered Dancing with the Stars, traitors, and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor.
Starting point is 00:17:10 So yeah, now we're experts. I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by our severe lack of survivor knowledge. That is the point of the show. I'm just going to remind you, I have watched some Survivor. I obviously haven't watched enough. Did people not like it? Like what was just because we?
Starting point is 00:17:27 Yeah. We'll be recapping the big conclusion at the 50th season from the final attempts at gameplay to the desperate pleas of finalists to a bunch of ha-hoo. Ah, ha, who. Again, we are experts. So make sure to tune in to PodMeets Twirled
Starting point is 00:17:41 for all our Survivor 50 takes. Listen to PodMeets Twirled on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This week on Crimless, we're joined by our first ever guest. Sorry, our first ever human guest. I don't think I could be in the same room with Shamrock the parrot. I'd be too nervous. That's right.
Starting point is 00:18:06 The very funny, Will Ferrell joins Rory Scovel and me, Josh Dean, for an episode dedicated to the many crimes committed by people also named Will Ferrell. They called to his fellow officer for the nippers. What are the nippers? Very good question. I was thinking, would that be a good name for like a salad dressing? Simple assault. And it's a play on word, salt?
Starting point is 00:18:28 Maybe not. I say we invest and we see. There's only one way to know. This did not amuse the cops. By the way, normally the cops are amused, but this did not abuse the cops. Will even comes clean about some of his own crimes. I didn't get caught. You know why?
Starting point is 00:18:45 If you don't want to be suspected of anything, you whistle as you walk. Listen to crime lists on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or Word. wherever you get your podcast. I have a question. How many leads have told their producers I'm not going to do something until I talk to Carrie? I would think that would be more producers. I think that would be a producer question.
Starting point is 00:19:15 I don't know. I just know that we do talk a lot. I know that there's, I know that they allow us a little extra time with you guys because all it takes is a text for me saying, leave me alone for a minute. Correct. Literally me.
Starting point is 00:19:32 I'm like, I'm telling everyone to, please exit this room. Yeah. Yeah. You were just so meaningful on their journey. And I think especially getting together with all the Bacheloretts. And we'll talk about that.
Starting point is 00:19:43 That wasn't my... I know. I know. I know. ...story of deciding who they wanted with you the last day or the last second. And I just really want to hammer this two viewers about how important you are.
Starting point is 00:19:56 This franchise would crumble without you. Please. No, it would. And I'm willing to stand on that bag. One thought. From a lead perspective, yeah. Oh my God, I bow to you guys. I'm like, you were like our anchor.
Starting point is 00:20:07 Like, truly. I can't tell you how much that means to me. You guys are truly making my heart. It's everything. You know that, Carrie. Truly. Should we get into some wardrobe? I think so.
Starting point is 00:20:18 I think so. Okay, yeah, because I'm like, we need to hear some fashion talk. Okay. Okay. In your opinion, what are the three most iconic gowns in Bachelor Nation history? That's like asking me who's my favorite child.
Starting point is 00:20:30 No, the gowns. I know. Okay, so not rating him. I would say obviously, Jojo's blue dress was iconic. I mean, that was everywhere. It was, there was, I think one of the dresses because at that point I didn't have Instagram yet,
Starting point is 00:20:54 but there is a photo of us with. I'm trying to think who whose dress it was. I can't remember the designer. Emily Maynard's finale dress. I have a picture of her with, here we are in. Phenomenal. And we're at the top of stairs. They have a house that's this big for her.
Starting point is 00:21:17 And she's got black socks up to here because it's freezing. And she's lifting her dress because there's all these stairs that she's got to walk. And that's the photo I captured. And that will be locked in my head forever. The black socks. The black socks. She looked like a bubby just walking up the stairs. And then when she let down this dress, I was like, wow.
Starting point is 00:21:39 I don't think people made a big deal about it because, you know, Instagram had just, like, got it started. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I was definitely not near being there. Carrie, it was Jean-John Ferris Couture. Oh, that's right. And so it was a brand new line that I never thought we would be able to get. Oh, wow. In the beginning, Bachelor was, people were willing to kind of work with us.
Starting point is 00:22:08 A little bit harder. Yeah, I mean, in the beginning also, they were very much into doing trades. And so we had to shop out of one store and one store only. Until finally, after a couple of seasons, I started showing them if you just let me do some stuff, it won't cost a lot. but I can reach out to people. I think we've made enough of an impact now where people will give me things. Oh, they want to.
Starting point is 00:22:36 Yeah. They want to see you. So it was, you know, at that point, it was like, but still shocked. I was always still shocked by who would be willing. And this man had never given an address to anybody for TV. And it was fantastic. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:22:51 Just unbelievable. The colors. And I don't think even the camera did it justice. I think you just had to see it in person. We need to pull up a picture on the screen. I almost want to see it now. I have a question. Was there a look that you loved at the time?
Starting point is 00:23:04 But looking back, you were like, I don't really like it anymore. Yeah, several. Several? Honestly, very fair. Those are the easy ones. More common than I. It's like, oh, that didn't quite work on camera. Or a mistake happens.
Starting point is 00:23:18 Like Joan, Golden Joan, who I love and this dress, when she was standing in my house, it was the most perfect gown. It had a cape lit and it was beyond stunning. What I didn't account for was when she sat down. And you know how many times I make you guys. Let me see when you're sitting. Let me see when you're standing. When you stand up, you're going to have to keep fussing with it.
Starting point is 00:23:45 Don't like I'm doing right now. That's what I don't want people doing all night long. And you can tell when somebody's not comfortable in their drugs. Yeah, because it's like your body language is like you. So I usually try and make them do everything. Joan, for some reason, we both knew that this was the dress. I put a pin on the top. We were being rushed that night, so the pin didn't go exactly where it was supposed to go.
Starting point is 00:24:09 But that dress is when she sat down somehow from the time that I pinned it. And I pinned her the whole season. There was no reason for why that dress did not come out the same way every other dress. dressed it. Right. It was so tight that trying to get it up. Oh, no. But she was such a good sport.
Starting point is 00:24:31 She's like, just do it. Just get in there. I don't care. I don't care if I can't breathe. I don't care anything. And then as soon as she sat down, that dress started, her boobs were already to hear. And then before the end of the show, her boobs were like up here. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:24:47 I just wanted to cry with her. You're watching from the camera. Yeah. That's not what we said. Oh, I'm dying here. I'm so sorry. She saw photos of it and she loved it. Okay, then that's, listen.
Starting point is 00:25:00 She didn't care, but yes, I have made many mistakes. You know, there's certain things that look gorgeous in person. Right. And then all of a sudden you see it on camera. And the reverse has happened to her. I'm like, kind of boring. You know, in my living room, it's not really made for camera. Right.
Starting point is 00:25:19 You would think after this many years, maybe I would have bought one light. Right, one spotlight. That would show me like, hey. That's so true. Or maybe, or being friends with the lighting department for 24 years just to say, hey, guys, is there something temporary that I can hang up in here when we're doing fittings? So even if we can take a photo, we can see what the photo looks like. Honestly, that's like it, they should have been doing that.
Starting point is 00:25:41 But I feel like the lighting in your apartment is so soft so I can try on things for hours because I don't like get tired of seeing. Yeah. If I'm under a light, I'm like, okay, I'm done for the day. It's very moody. So it's, like, it's important. It's like, just like, just like. It's a little moody. That's why we take so many breaks.
Starting point is 00:25:57 That's why, while I don't know if there's new rules anymore about us even being allowed to drink when we're doing this. There better not be allowed. Exactly. It's part of the experience. Hello. It's like a date. It is. And should we talk about it?
Starting point is 00:26:12 Like, I mean, going through all the dresses in your apartment was my favorite part of being a lead. And how long does it take you to get everything in that apartment for that first fitting? That first fitting is insane. Because we have at least 45 to 50 racks. And my apartment, you know, maybe you can get 25 to 30, which is a lot. I mean, you know how crowded that is. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. But we have this woman named Dawn who works for me.
Starting point is 00:26:41 Love her. And is the best. And so I'm fortunate to have an elevator in my building and my apartment has three floors. So we were able to line clothes up down on Dawn. one's floor and bring it up so while we're already moving towards racks later on dawn is sneaking in and rolling out racks that we've already gone through and bringing new racks in and then we turn around and just start over again as though you're looking at the things you already look at that's why i think each one of you has said haven't i been over here already i'm like yeah just keep looking we're
Starting point is 00:27:18 like you know and not only do you have the rose ceremony dresses you have each climate. So I know for my season, you would call we had one warm climate and then we had a hot one or hot and cold sorry. And we called it what is Hawaii in Alaska. Yes, he would never tell us where we're going. And he would
Starting point is 00:27:38 go like this for Hawaii and I'd be like yes. He's like this one's you're going to be cold, you're going to need a bundle of love let's do some like layers and I'm like where am I going? I'm like tell me right now. Okay, it's got, tell me where we'd be. It's got cobblestones. Yes, he loved the cobblestone I'm like, well, I can't walk in these heels.
Starting point is 00:27:55 That was the whole point. Be careful. It shoes you're picking. Yep. So make sure your dress is going to be where you know I might need to do a different shoe. So picture cobblestone. The temperature is going to be gorgeous all day long, but then really chilly at night. It's, you know, where are we?
Starting point is 00:28:14 And each one of you would give me a place. A few of you actually hit the place. And I could see the producer's face that would be sitting there going, Stop saying that. Pick another place. And I'm like, she does no idea. Just shut up. Just shut up.
Starting point is 00:28:31 Let me cook. She wants to say. Right. And then I warn everybody at the show. She thinks we're going to Miami. Oh, great. And we'd be going to my front. It was me.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Because I was like, I'd definitely wrong my entire season. Could not guess Vigia at all. No. Definitely did not. Okay. It's got beautiful blue oceans and the weather is going to be temperate and gorgeous and beautiful. Oh, you guys gave me. I was like, oh, we're going to, like, Hawaii.
Starting point is 00:28:57 Right, right. But that's what was so perfect about it. You knew we were going to Hawaii. Yeah. Guess what? It was, the clothes that you picked for it were really, really good. It was insane. It was the best part of my season, I think. No, truly, it was the best time.
Starting point is 00:29:09 Like, that was those outfits. I'm Cynthia Lois. And I'm Josie Dye. And we're done pretending we have it all figured out. Each week, we laugh, cry, and talk our way through life's messiest moments. The things you think about but would never say out loud. The questions you are always too shy to ask. Relationships, regrets, awkward moments, and the stuff no one warns you about.
Starting point is 00:29:33 It's honest, it's funny, and sometimes it gets a little uncomfortable. But that's kind of the point. This is Cynthia and Josie's unmentionables. Listen on the free I-Heart Radio app or wherever you get your podcasts. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Jim Gaffigan to Bob Odenkirk, to David Letterman, Help make you funnier.
Starting point is 00:29:58 This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and headwriter, Streeter Seidel, help an Acapella band with their between songs banter. There's the worst singer in the group? The worst? Yeah. Me. Is there anything to the idea that because you're from Harvard, you only got in because your parents made a huge donation.
Starting point is 00:30:17 The group. The yard birds, right? That's the name. The Harvard yard, but they're open. Do you have a name suggestion? We're open. Since you guys are missing. Middle aged.
Starting point is 00:30:27 One erection. Listen to humor me with Robert Smygel and friends on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Humor me. I need some jokes to make me seem funny. This is Saigon, the story of my family and of the country that shaped us. The United States will not stand by and allow any power, however great, take over another country. From My Heart Podcast, Saigon. Please allow me to introduce Joseph Sherman. You don't think I'm serious about a free Vietnam? I should stop talking so much. I like hearing you talk. One city,
Starting point is 00:31:08 a divided country, and the war that tore America apart. This is for Vietnam. I've taken a hit from Japanese ground fire. Do you rate me? They're pouring petrol all over him. He's holding matches. I'm on a landmine. Fort Braves on. Let's get out. Freedom from Vietnam. Saigon, starring Kelly Marie Tran and Rob Benedict. Sting here's madness. The world should hear about this. There's a fire coming to this country, and it's going to burn out everything.
Starting point is 00:31:38 Listen to Saigon on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, everyone, it's Ryder Strong, and Wilfredel from PodMeets World. And now the Pod Meets Twirled podcast. We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV, who now have covered Dancing with the Star, traders, and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor. So yeah, now we're experts. I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by our severe lack of survivor knowledge. That is the point of the show.
Starting point is 00:32:13 I'm just going to remind you. I have watched some Survivor. I obviously haven't watched enough. Did people not like it? Yeah. Just because we... Yeah. We'll be recapping the big conclusion of the 50th season from the final attempts at gameplay
Starting point is 00:32:27 to the desperate pleas of finalists to a bunch of... Ha, who. Ha, ha, who. Again, we are experts. So make sure to tune into PodMeets Twirled for all our Survivor 50 takes. Listen to PodMeets Twirled on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Agency. The ability to know that we're the experts in our own body.
Starting point is 00:32:49 On the podcast, cultivating her space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lomax create a space where black women can show up fully and be heard. I wholeheartedly think, you know, You hit 30. You shouldn't have to share one with anybody. Mm-hmm. From navigating friendships and healing to setting boundaries and prioritizing your mental health. These are real honest conversations. We don't always get to have out loud.
Starting point is 00:33:14 Totally unreasonable with different parts of life, right? Like, oh, have all three meals and make sure you're mindful during all of them? Absolutely not. During one meal, I'm standing. I'm standing and handing my children food. Because healing, empowerment, and resilience aren't just ideal. their practices. And this mental health awareness month, there's no better time to pour back into yourself.
Starting point is 00:33:37 Listen to cultivating her space on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. How much planning goes into a season when you're going from the road ceremony justice to the daily outfits? How much work is up behind the scenes? You know, I usually start like a month, month and a half earlier. and start trying to see now that there's so many rules about how fast we have to return things and things.
Starting point is 00:34:10 We have to like plan out what day you guys actually coming. But I'll have things in my baskets for weeks at a time. Like leading up. Yeah. And, you know, and it just because I too am still trying to figure out. Because we've been known on The Bachelor that we've changed things. very quickly. Yes, we do.
Starting point is 00:34:37 You think you're going to someplace hot and you end up being in someplace cold. You think that you're going someplace out of the country and next thing you know, you're flying to Denver. Something silly like that.
Starting point is 00:34:53 Something happens. Or there's also once in a while you think you're going to be doing a boy and a girl comes in, or you think you're doing one girl and in the middle somebody whispers to you and need to talk to you privately.
Starting point is 00:35:11 Nobody can know other than you, not Gina, not your assistant, but they might be changing. Somebody might be interested in getting an engagement right away and we might be bringing somebody new in. But nobody knows. And we don't even know. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:27 And that was a fun experience. Yeah. And even for most, mind, they didn't tell you who it would be, and it was between three of us at the time. And Carrie said he was shopping for some things for Gabby, some things for me. And we didn't know. Yeah. Oh, for her season.
Starting point is 00:35:44 Her season, but we were last minute. That was the craziest. Oh, wow. The craziest. And then to be told, oh, they're both going to be doing it. I bet you were like, holy. And we were completely different heights, different sizes. Like, he had so many racks of clothes.
Starting point is 00:35:57 So many rocks. But we had so much fun, especially the days we got to be all three. That season, I mean, obviously we already know how talented here he is, but it's like doing two bachelets at the same time. At the same time. But two completely different styles, obviously, like very different. Like, yeah. A lot of suitcases. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:13 There were a lot of suitcases. And then, of course, Princess here, she needed a coat and dress that would not fit into a suitcase. We almost had to do two suitcases for it. Finally, they were able to fit the coat and the dress. Yes. A dress that I kept saying to her from the very beginning. There's nowhere for you to wear it. We figured out that there's not.
Starting point is 00:36:38 What was the dress? Oh, I got to wear it. Wait. Which dress? Okay, there was this black coat. And I think the coat was what I wanted. And it was almost like a cape and it was really long. And we loved it.
Starting point is 00:36:51 And it was for someplace cold. Cold. And after the rose ceremony where me and Gabby just had the worst time on the journey. I was like, I want to wear this outfit. Find a place for me to wear it. And the producers went out and found a location I could wear it in. Wait. We went to Paris.
Starting point is 00:37:11 The Diva's not telling you, we went to Paris. Yeah, I'm like, why do you keep leaving out? You know that's like my favorite part of the all season. Exactly. You're like Montesaians Paris. I thought it was Paris, but the night location was somewhere different. And then they switched it to a cathedral. So I could wear this.
Starting point is 00:37:25 But a cathedral in Paris? Yes. Insane. In Paris. Insane. Right. Gabby's was at the Eiffel Tower. How they got that overnight. Because mind you, this all changed overnight.
Starting point is 00:37:35 The only good thing was I had prom. Oh, God, nobody knew. Oh, my God. They had to make us happy because we were both hysterical after that night. Yeah, it was a horrifying night. And they went deservingly and said, what can we do? And she's like, I want to wear this dress. That's all I wanted.
Starting point is 00:37:54 Oh, we. And so she, I. Gabby and one producer jumped on a plane the next morning. I don't, Gina came and met us, but Gina wasn't with us for some reason. I don't know if she was, if she stayed back to do something where we were doing a special. But it was, and all of a sudden, she and I are in Paris. And I know she's wearing that dress. Like with its own suitcase?
Starting point is 00:38:20 No. Carrie made it happen. No, that's like a dream. And I kept thinking to myself, why are you carrying a suitcase with a dress that she's never going to wear? Yeah. But she made me promise that I'm going to get it. And you know me once I promised. It's so true.
Starting point is 00:38:35 I don't break a problem. Yeah, he keeps it. Not that. He keeps a promise. And the beauty is I keep secrets because I can't remember anything to tell me any of. So people think I'm so great. But you always are cool things when I told you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:50 I'm like, tell me the story again. At least give me the stuff. That actually makes so much sense for you. That's it. That's the truth. That's right. When you ask me who it was, I can't remember.
Starting point is 00:39:02 People think I'm lying. I'm screaming. Okay, wait, I want to know, like, out of all the batch threats, like, we talked about this kind of at the beginning of, like, some being more opinionated and some not. Like, who do you think was the most, like,
Starting point is 00:39:15 like, they knew their style and, like, versus, like, you really had to, like, kind of help. You know what? I will say, Rachel had a style that I had to get to learn to know. Okay. Rachel Lindsay.
Starting point is 00:39:31 Uh-huh. You came in with a style. Sure did. That you were very specific. But what I loved about you was that as you got more comfortable, your whole style completely changed also. You never became, like, Bachelorette Dolly. No.
Starting point is 00:39:48 You never became the Barbie doll. But you also never, you didn't stick to, like, right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You allowed us to play. I was willing to. And all of a sudden it was like this whole new you came out. And it was period. Hello.
Starting point is 00:40:07 That's how I got it. Period. She would look at herself and go. Period. Hello. That's it. Was charity picky on the racks like in the beginning? You all better clip that.
Starting point is 00:40:17 Say it again? I said were you picky on the racks in the beginning because you came in knowing your style? Not really. We got along from the very beginning. I mean, I think he was probably more surprised that I was like no. Like I would tell you no. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I was not afraid of a no.
Starting point is 00:40:32 I'd rather have that than have somebody say yes, yes, yes, just, yes, everything. And then it was somewhere on the road. And I've altered everything. And they're like, yeah, I don't think I like this anymore. Yeah. And that's why I was like, I think I also knew that. I was like, oh, that's probably going to be like, I don't think I have that much flexibility versus like if I was doing this on my own. I'm like, he has to like, he's tailoring these stuff.
Starting point is 00:40:52 Like, we don't, we can't go back. So I'm like, I need to love it in this moment because if I love it, then I'm going to love it later. I can't like like it. You know what I mean? But you were really good too. I mean, the only day we ever had problems when I would order a bottle of champagne at four and we'd start drinking was just on a certain day when they wanted you to wear a pair of sneakers. Or pants. I wouldn't wear pants.
Starting point is 00:41:18 I don't blame you. I don't think I like a pants. It was really more the sneakers. Because she said, I need a heel. And when I would say to them, let me at least give her a wedge. something. Tell me what she's doing that she can't do it. And when I would read these notes in the middle of the night
Starting point is 00:41:34 and I'd be like, oh fuck. Oh, she's going to hate this. No, and I would still wear the heel. I'm screaming. So many times on the cobblestone I was in a heel. You're a trooper. Did you have any issue with it? No. Me neither. He always made sure I was fine. I'd go to them and say, you
Starting point is 00:41:50 either want somebody that's going to be happy. Hello. Or you want somebody that's going to be miserable. Who do you want to come on the date? It's really simple. Because I'm like, there's only two moods present. And by that point, she and I had already finished a bottle of champagne. Correct. We had a chertudery. It's now like 5 o'clock in the morning.
Starting point is 00:42:04 And I'm thinking to myself, oh, good. She and I have her dress. And then we'd crawl into bed for a little while because I knew Gabby didn't hang. Gabby could take three minutes. Gabby was three seconds. Really? Half the time, by the time I'd get to Gabby, she'd be dressed. I'd be like, all right.
Starting point is 00:42:18 Do you mind me? Yeah. Would you like me to give you any jewelry? Sure. And then, you know. Was she your easiest, bachelorette? Probably. I find easiness with all of you.
Starting point is 00:42:31 You love saying that, but I'm like, I'm not addressing her three seconds ever. It's not about the three seconds. I mean, Gabby sometimes I would just feel like, okay, you don't even need me. By the way, I'll go back and laying down with her again. And we would. She really was. No, I love that. She really, she was so simple. When she knew she wanted it, she just put it on and she was done.
Starting point is 00:42:53 Wow. And, you know. And she had finished. Fantastic looks. No. She really did. That green, like, metal one that we did? I'm obsessed with that one.
Starting point is 00:43:02 And then I think there was one where she had, like, a big slit on the side. It was like... Right. Gabby's was my most scary of all because I was always so afraid. There's a person I found out at Warner Brothers, or actually that works for us. That is... They call him Carrie. And I thought they were making fun of him.
Starting point is 00:43:23 Oh. But his name is actually Carrie, I guess. but he goes in and every nipple, every too much side cleavage, we have people who are very, very precise about what can be shown on ABC. The nipple police. The nipple police, the side boob police, and I am always. So I just started thinking people just, okay, I'm getting away with it. They actually hired somebody that would have to color in every single.
Starting point is 00:43:53 I mean, every frame they would have to color. Wait, did you have a lot of black box moments? No, but I remember Gabby would sleep with her nipples, like, nippies on because they were always like, you have to have them. Because she would never put them on, and then she'd walk out without me at her senior. I mean, Gabby was already half the room by the time I'd come in. I'm screaming.
Starting point is 00:44:15 I just remember she's like, I sleep in these things at this point under everything. Oh, my goodness. Gabby's was the most naked where. Oh, she was. Yeah. No, and I think that's where I was like, oh, because obviously you guys were right before me, I was like, I can push a little bit. I'm like, Gabby, I remember literally saying Gabby did this, so I'm going to like, sheer pants, cheeks out, let's do a little bit.
Starting point is 00:44:37 Weren't you the one that I had to change the lining of the dress twice because I thought if I just dropped in one color? It was a dress that we thought was so gorgeous, it was beaded, and it was, but I kept looking at going, but there's an old ladiness to it. Was it the, I don't know. And I needed to cut out. Was it the gold one? Probably. It was so heavy?
Starting point is 00:45:03 Yes. That dress heavy. But we, with a lining in it, it was so nothing. Yeah, yeah. Yes. I lifted the lining out, not counting on the fact of that if there was a light coming from behind her, you could see everything. And so. Naked dress.
Starting point is 00:45:22 Hey, it is what it is. Little by little, I, so when we start and those first nights are so long to begin with. And so that it's, you know, you're all standing in those heels and that water that's freezing. And those dresses are soaking up all of the water. It's like when people ask me, why is everybody in sequence the first night? It's because they can't absorb. I can't dry it fast enough in between. And that dress is now all the way up.
Starting point is 00:45:53 to here. And I just looking like, okay, guess what? We're doing netting or we're doing this? Yes. This has been so much fun and there is so much more to come. So we will have part two with Carrie coming tomorrow. So make sure you tune in. Bye. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guide, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
