Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. I'm Jamel Hill, hosts the Sports and Politics Podcasts, and on the latest episode of Spolitics, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries joins me for a candid conversation about the state of the Democratic Party. What do Republicans say to you privately
Starting point is 00:00:17 that they won't say publicly? Many of them are in fear of their political lives. We continue to say to them, you were elected to defend your constituents and there's life after Congress. Make sure to listen to this episode of Spolitics, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, my name is Enya Umanzor.
Starting point is 00:00:37 And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble. Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Open your free IHeartRadio app, search emergency intercom, and listen now. Do we really need another podcast with a condescending finance brof trying to tell us how to spend our own money? No, thank you. Instead, check out Brown Ambition. Each week, I, your host, Mandy Money, gives you real talk, real advice with a heavy dose of I feel uses. Like on Fridays when I take your questions for the BAQA. Whether you're trying to invest for your future, navigate a toxic workplace, I got you. Listen to Brown Ambition on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:35 What would you do if one bad decision forced you to choose between a maximum security prison or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth? Unfortunately for Mark Lombardo, this was the choice he faced. He said, you are a number, a New York State number, and we own you. Listen to shock incarceration on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts. Every case that is a cold case that has DNA. Right now in a backlog will be identified in our lifetime.
Starting point is 00:02:12 On the new podcast, America's Crime Lab, every case has a story to tell, and the DNA holds the truth. He never thought he was going to get caught, and I just looked at my computer screen, and I was just like, ah, gotcha. This technology's already solving so many cases. Listen to America's Crime Lab on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Welcome back to Bachelor Happy Hour. It's Golden Hour. Thanks for joining us. We are so happy to be back on this cold winter day. How are you doing today, Susan? You're chilly in Austin. It's snowing here in Philadelphia. I mean, it's cold. It's cold. I know. I don't like, it's about to get really cold here. We're about to have like a serious cold snap. And you have to remember, homes in Austin don't have basements. So our pipes are on the exterior of the walls. So we have to drip faucets all night and cover, bring plants in and put blankets on them. It's a full time job in the winter. I have this funny feeling where I'm going tomorrow. It's going to be even colder than it is here in Philadelphia, heading out to Kansas City. So, oh, baby. So ladies and gentlemen, thanks so much for. coming back and listen to us again and be sure to check out our latest episodes because we've been having a ball. We've talked to so many different people from Jones Bachelorette show and we have a great one today. Today we want to welcome a very special guest from Jones season. Please welcome as he's lovingly referred to as Charles L. Hi Charles. How are you? Thank you. Thank you. I'm doing
Starting point is 00:03:56 well, thank you. Hi, Charles, you're looking great. Hi, Susan. Yeah. Weird. I just, before, I just have seen you now. We met, you and I and Susan, we've chatted. I'm sorry, I have to ask and embarrass you straight off the bat hair. Last time we met Charles, he had a full head of black hair. Today, you look a little more age appropriate, still as handsome as ever. That salt and pepper look. What happened? Did the dye rinse out? What's the deal? No, a little bit of worry. You know, both outside and weather-wise. Yeah, that's what did it. Probably that's one of the reasons. You know the outside is politics. You know that. You hear so much news, you know, some are good, some are just okay.
Starting point is 00:04:43 You know what? As Susan said, it's being pretty cold here. Yeah. Where are you, Charles? Are you in Philadelphia? Where are you? He's in Dublin. You know, I mean, Marvon, Pennsylvania. Yeah, and next year. Malvern. Right. Right. About 20 minutes from here, Kathy, you've been here. Yeah, right near Melbourne prep. I have a very good friend who went to school there. Exactly. I can walk over there, literally. Really? Yeah, Marvin Prep, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Wow. It's great school. So tell us what you've been up to. We love having you here. Yeah, I've been back to the kind of, you know, normal life in a sense, you know, like before the show. I have pretty much kind of, you know, weekly routines or daily routines. Talking about weekly routines, sometimes I go to New York, you know, see my grandkids, my daughters, and other family members. So that's part of my life.
Starting point is 00:05:34 And another just regular routine is just here. And as we were kidding and started occasionally I do some day trading in the morning, but not every day. Let's talk about that. I want to hear your career was, well, tell us. What was your career? My career is in the statistics, statistics and a program in pharmaceutical companies. So that's my career.
Starting point is 00:05:58 Well, I have many jobs before, but that's the last one I would refer to. And then trading is literally, it's just my hobby. I picked that myself, you know, like everybody. You know, Kathy, you may like, you know, a guitar, for example, or play piano. Yeah. Or ballet dance. You know, I don't know. maybe Susan also is a greater battery dancer.
Starting point is 00:06:22 I don't know, you know, just my guess. So this is my hobby, you know, reading, sometimes doing some writing and trading. It's just part of my, you know, retirement life. I actually took a class in college, a money banking class, and the, if you want to call it, the extra credit piece, we each got, I think it was $10,000 of play money. And, you know, that was back in the Dark Ages, so that would be worth, you know, 100,000 today. Exactly. Yeah. Good thing. But the, but it was the game. You could do anything. You could, you could short stocks. You could, whatever. You know, if the more knowledge you had, the more things you could try. And, and the person who won got an A in the course and didn't have to take the final. Well, that's all I needed to hear. Guess who won? You got the A. I did. Well, it was very competitive.
Starting point is 00:07:19 But no, but it was because that's why I'm interested in what you do, because my dad played around the stock market, and he taught me a lot about investing. And it was really easy to make money when it was monopoly money, but I could no more do the things. So that's why I'm asking, aren't you afraid to sell stock short? No, no, no. Sometimes when my friends joke with me, I said,
Starting point is 00:07:45 you know a surgeon he has a knife cut your head are you nervous i had it's a well of course they're not a similar but it's a similar concept if you knew very well and um don't don't fight against the market you know follow the market like this morning just very bravely i bought 100 shares i shut sell 100 shares i did a one option call yeah and The profit that is making you smile right now. You know, all I remember is growing up hearing about soybeans and, you know, all the, all the commodities. My dad was big and it was a commodity. Yeah, I'm not involved with that.
Starting point is 00:08:32 Yeah. Yeah. Well, good for you. Other than making millions on the stock market that you're looking to find some woman to spend all that money on. Have you liked that segue, Charles? What have you, what have you been? Yeah, that's probably, you know, why you're probably curious, how come Charles, why you're still, you know, eager to make money. Yeah, that will be to prepare for the second step.
Starting point is 00:08:55 Ah, the woman. Do you mean the second woman? No, no. Yeah, they're the future girlfriend. Have you had any dates or anything? No. No. Has anybody asked you out?
Starting point is 00:09:08 Because they check my wallet. It's not big enough. They check my wallet. That's terrible. Are you serious? come on. Are you serious? Yes, he's kidding, Kathy.
Starting point is 00:09:17 He's kidding. Well, I always say the next time I'm going to tell them I want to see their teeth and their checkbook balance. Just kidding, Charles. Really quick, we're going to do a question of the day, Charles. So all three of us will answer this. And the question today says, what's something that you love about being a parent that you feel like no one really talks about? Well, I think you have to show you as a good example to your kids. You know, no matter how little they are, they are very smart, they observe, they listen, and they watch.
Starting point is 00:10:00 So any action, any book you're reading, any conversation you talk, like my kids, you know, I honestly, my daughters, when they're very young, they know what is a star. what is a stock market, what is economics, what is, you know, communication, public speaking, so on and so forth. You know, you don't teach them, but you are surprised. Because they pay attention, yes. Yes. So that's, I, to my understanding. So anything, that's why, you know, quote, unquote, if parents, you know, love to read a lot, I think the kids tend to read a lot too, because they think, you know,
Starting point is 00:10:43 That's the way it is. And if you talk many, many topics, you know, at home, this case tend to, you know, knowledge-wise, will be very, very broad as well. Yeah, I think kids tend, I think you bring up a really great point, Charles. Kids tend to listen or, sorry, watch what we do more than listen to what we say. You know, do as I say, not as I do, that kind of thing. They watch what we do and they, emulate our behavior based on how they see us behave, not how we tell them they should behave.
Starting point is 00:11:19 They learn by example, right? Like, you know, when they were little, we don't push them to be rich or very rich, but we kind of indirectly try to influence them to be rich is important. Really? You taught your kids to be. Wait, did you teach your kids that to be rich was important? not exactly but wait i want to know because i have a single son how old's your daughter it's too late cath i mean uh um how can i say we try to send them a message that is that to be found to be sound financially it's very important as if it's healthy health wise
Starting point is 00:12:03 they're saying you know hand in hand you know go together so did your wife have a career Did your wife have a career? Oh, she's from very, very famous university and her major economics. So you talk about economics, she knows everything. Wow. That's great. Yeah. Are your kids definitely benefit it?
Starting point is 00:12:25 The younger one, yes. The older one in management. Oh, wow. Smart kids here, Susan. Smart kids. I see that. I mean, they are doing very well. Yeah, we are very happy.
Starting point is 00:12:35 Yeah. I'm Jemail Hill, host of the Sports and Politics Podcasts Politics. And on the latest episode of Politics, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries joins me for a candid conversation about the state of the Democratic Party. What do Republicans say to you privately that they won't say publicly? Many of them are in fear of their political lives. And that's been part of the challenge. But we continue to say to them, you were elected to defend your constituents, to stand up for, your constituents. And there's life after Congress. And you should be willing to actually want to be
Starting point is 00:13:11 able to look back on your time in the House of Representatives knowing that you can keep your head held high because you did the right thing. Donald Trump is gone in three and a half years. But their legacy or their failure to stand up to the extremism and the unprecedented assault on America as we know it will be with them forever. Make sure to listen to Spolitics on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, my name is Enya Emanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom.
Starting point is 00:13:47 If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble. Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Emergency.com and listen now.
Starting point is 00:14:10 Hola, it's HoneyGerman. And my podcast, Grasias Come Again, is back. This season we're going even deeper into the world of music and entertainment with raw and honest conversations with some of your favorite Latin artists and celebrities. You didn't have to audition? No, I didn't audition. I haven't audition in like over 25 years. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:14:28 That's a real G-talk right there. Oh, yeah. We've got some of the biggest actors, musicians, content creators, and culture shifters sharing their real stories of failure and success. I feel like this is my destiny. You were destined to be a start.
Starting point is 00:14:42 We talk all about what's viral and trending with a little bit of chisement, a lot of laughs, and those amazing Vibras you've come to expect. And of course, we'll explore deeper topics
Starting point is 00:14:53 dealing with identity, struggles, and all the issues affecting our Latin community. You feel like you get a little whitewash because you have to do the code switching? I won't say whitewash
Starting point is 00:15:02 because at the end of the day, you know, I'm me. But the whole pretending and cold, you know, it takes a toll on you. Listen to the new season of Grasas Has Come Again as part of My Cultura Podcast Network on the IHartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. What would you do if one bad decision forced you to choose between a maximum security prison or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth? Unfortunately for Mark Lombardo, this was the choice he faced.
Starting point is 00:15:30 He said, you are a number, a New York state number. And we own you. Shock incarceration, also known as boot camps, are short-term, highly regimented correctional programs that mimic military basic training. These programs aim to provide a shock of prison life, emphasizing strict discipline, physical training, hard labor, and rehabilitation programs. Mark had one chance to complete this program and had no idea of the hell awaiting him the next six months. The first night was overwhelming.
Starting point is 00:16:03 And you don't know who's next to you. And we didn't know what to expect in the morning. Nobody tells you anything. Listen to shock incarceration on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, I'm Janica Lopez. And in the new season of the Overcover podcast, I'm taking you on an exciting journey of self-reflection. Am I ready to enter this new part of my life? Like, am I ready to be in a relationship?
Starting point is 00:16:29 Am I ready to have kids and to really just devote myself and my time? I wanted to be successful on my own, not just because of who my mom is. Like, I felt like I needed to be better or work twice as hard as she did. Join me for conversations about healing and growth. Life is freaking hard. And growth doesn't happen in comfort. It happens in motion, even when you're hurting. All from one of my favorite spaces, The Kitchen.
Starting point is 00:16:55 Honestly, these are going to come out so freaking amazing. Be a part of my new chapter and listen to the new season of the Overcomber. podcast as part of the MyCultura Podcast Network on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. All right. Well, we want to go back just a little bit and talk about Jones season. Did you like coming to AFR? Yeah, yeah. I mean, it's great. You know, I really, as you know, from the show, you can tell. I really, really enjoyed everything. moment. Actually, I was on phone with Chuck yesterday. They tried to invite me to be there. There's a kind of concert next week in New York. But unfortunately, I cannot go. Yeah. Oh. You know you stole all the hearts of Bachelor Nation and America. You do know. I'm so happy for them. Yeah, Joe and Chuck. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:54 Well, that's what I want to know. I mean, you did, Susan. You're right. So many people on social media. They love you. I'm surprised. Are women not reaching into your DMs, sliding into your DMs, as I say? Is that not happening? This is a semi-secret. It is, yes. Oh, they are?
Starting point is 00:18:13 There are a lot. Well, tell us. Have you talked to any of them? Are you, you're not dating any of them? She's screeched. I haven't started yet. Well, what are you waiting for, the July 4th fireworks? I mean, let's go.
Starting point is 00:18:28 How about paradise? Are you waiting for Golden Paradise? Actually, I was, you know, chatting with Chuck, you know, I'm pretty kind of slow in that aspect for whatever reason. You know, I wish I have, you know, half speed off when I do my trading, you know, that'd be totally different. Yeah, well, let me just say, dating is not like the half-life of a drug. You know what I'm saying? It doesn't last forever. So you've got to get on it there.
Starting point is 00:18:54 You got to get on it. Maybe I kind of unconscious. maybe I'm waiting for that right lady. You know what he's waiting for? But you have to chat with them to figure out which one's the right one. He's waiting for a woman to swoop in
Starting point is 00:19:08 and sweep him off his feet. Am I right, Charles? Okay. Uh-huh. Or maybe you coach me. How to move forward? Oh, Susan, I will coach you. Our first advice to you is,
Starting point is 00:19:20 are you on dating sites? No. He doesn't even answer the DMs. We expect them to be on the dating site. Yeah, I have a lot of DMs. And you know why, Charles, a lot of women are on social media. Kathy and I have talked about this before. For us, we didn't see all that because a lot of men are not on social media.
Starting point is 00:19:41 So for them to reach out to us is, yeah. And also quite a few local friends talk to me. They want to, you know, set us up, you know, for a blind date. Wait, you've got friends that want to set you up on a blind date. Mm-hmm. And you're not, and you haven't, she said incredulously, my, you haven't taken them up on it? Not yet.
Starting point is 00:20:05 I have not because, you know, it's been holidays, Christmas. Yeah, true. True. Traveling in New York, you know. Again, Charles, we're in February. Let's get a move on here. We're going to light a fire on you. Spring is coming, Charles.
Starting point is 00:20:20 Spring is coming. Spring is coming, you know. Okay. Fresh flowers, romance, you know, blooms in the spring, that kind of thing. So, Charles, if you were asked to go if there is a golden paradise, would you go? Would you consider going? Oh, yes. And if I also correct, are the left unit bump into a nice lady and a girl on a cruise?
Starting point is 00:20:42 Oh. Wait, wait. Say that again. On a cruise? He would like to bump into a nice lady or a girl on a cruise? I would like to do that. That's my near-term dream. Are you taking a cruise?
Starting point is 00:20:55 No, no, I mean, that's special. The Golden Paradise was on a ship. Duwait, he might know something here. I know because we all had that idea. Is Golden Paradise? Wait, this could be newsworthy, Susan. Has someone talked to you about a cruise for Golden Paradise, Charles? No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:21:10 But this is only my personal, you know, Jim. Ah, okay. Okay. Do you get seasick, Charles? Do you get seasick? No. I've been cruised many times. Me too.
Starting point is 00:21:22 So I think a cruise it shall be. All right. Well, we'll do it. Okay. I want to know, Charles, what do you think change the most about you from starting your journey on Joan's season to today? Because I will say to you before you answer, one of the most memorable times for me involving you was when you talked with Guy about the death of your wife. I mean, that was so poignant. And I think so many people who have lost people identified with that.
Starting point is 00:21:56 So, you know, how have you changed since clearly that was a big one? Right. I think before the show, I probably would say very close to myself. And a lot of questions always keep asking why, how, what happened, why that could happen on and on, you know. Then with a show, you know, when we involved with lots of guys and John, we're just, talk about this, particularly as you mentioned, you know, the conversation with Guy, it kind of, you know, changed my angle, you know, my openness, you know, if I can say my door was very closed before. Do you mean about dating or just in general? In general and also
Starting point is 00:22:48 regarding the future partner, if I can say. Yeah, was very kind of closed, you know. But with that one kind of open it up. That's why, you know, I even now these days, I wouldn't talk with a lovely girl on cruise, you know, before. Yet I can talk about that. But you know what, Charles, many steps here. Right now, you're talking to two lovely women on a computer. So that's a first step. For sure. Absolutely. Yeah. No, I'm delighted. Yeah. I'm pulling your chain. So that's good. So you feel like you're more open and ready for love. Yeah. And also, I think On the other side, you know, my kids probably, we never talked about this before. With the show, you know, we are pushed into the area we began to talk.
Starting point is 00:23:35 Actually, we had a little conversation during our holiday, you know, lunch together. What was that conversation like? Yeah. The girls, did the girls say it's okay, Dad? Yeah, yeah, something like that. Yeah. Something like that. Here's what they said.
Starting point is 00:23:55 you can find a lovely woman just don't bring home that Susan or Kathy I'm joking Charles I'm a joker I'm about Joker from way back I'm kidding well I don't know let's see I'm so happy for you and your experience I really am and I think it really changed your world
Starting point is 00:24:17 that made you open your eyes and live again right you see more smiling face on myself now Yes, good. And that's one, that is, I mean, isn't that what it's about at our age, enjoying life smiling, waking up happy and grateful every day. That's kind of what we try to do. So, other than Chuck, do you keep in touch with guys from the show? And if so, who? Yeah, well, you know, we have a kind of, I call a group chat.
Starting point is 00:24:46 Yeah, yeah, among ourselves. And we send out mostly through the eye messages. Yes, the text message. We keep up what is going on, update, any news, so on and so forth. Okay, I have a question. I have a question, Charles. If you were stranded, we've asked every one of them this, on a deserted island, and you could only bring three guys from the show.
Starting point is 00:25:13 Who would they be, and why? Okay. If that's the case, okay, this is just hypothetically. Yes, yes. Mark, and the captain. Oh, interesting. And the guy. And guy.
Starting point is 00:25:30 Okay, and why. Tell me why. Yeah, now we want to know why. Okay. Why? Why? Guy has, you can have more fun if you know him well and he knows you well. So really, on top of that, as Susan mentioned, we are in an isolated area.
Starting point is 00:25:50 And he's a doctor. a doctor around. I knew you're going to say that's a smart man there. And this is why he makes money in the market. He knows what he's doing. Then the captain also important in case we need a ship. Well, no, excuse me, wait, Charles. I hate to break the news to you.
Starting point is 00:26:07 I was married to a naval officer for almost 46 years. And as brilliant and charming and wonderful as my husband was, he could not bring a ship anywhere. He couldn't buy a ship. But if they found one, that guy could drive it maybe, right? No, this time is different. Our captain, he would do it for us. Yes, okay, and Mark?
Starting point is 00:26:31 He'd get a ship. I love it. And what about Mark? Mark, you know, when you talk to him, when you, you know, a chat around him, you really feel have a sense of security and you have a sense of a warmness. On top of that, he's also very, very, very diligent person. So in case I'm busy, he can help to cook as well. So these are the
Starting point is 00:26:57 three persons, I think, would be a fantastic team. Charles, you are very strategic. You are a very strategic planner. It's very clear. You know, you didn't hear him say, oh, so and so, because he likes to laugh or pour me a beer. This guy, he's got, he's got, he's got a plan. He's got a plan. All right, We do advice, Charles, every time we have a, you know, a guest, we answer fan questions and we'd love you to join in and give us your opinion. Are you ready? Okay. So here we go.
Starting point is 00:27:31 Anonymous asks, hi, Kathy and Susan. I am really in a mess and I need your help. My daughter is really in the thick of her teen years. She's 16 and there's literally nothing I can do right. in her eyes. I don't think there's anything in the family or at school that has been weighing on her to cause this. I literally just think it's teenage hormones. Well, the other night, after she had been short with me all day, I caught her saying some very nasty things about me under her breath when I asked her to fold her laundry. I finally snapped and after yelling, I ended up going to the computer and canceling her plane ticket for her spring vacation with her friends. Did I go too far? She paid for the ticket with her money, and it's non-refundable. She didn't even freak out.
Starting point is 00:28:25 She's just been really sad and quiet ever since. How do I fix this, and how do I solve this attitude problem once and for all? What says you, Charles? Well, for me, if I hear correctly, you know, she better go back to her good friends. She needs friends. You know, if she has a good circle of friends, that will help not a bit tremendously. Yeah. Second, I think the dad has to ask why things can come into that bad, you know.
Starting point is 00:29:03 In other words, he did not do much in the previous months or years. Had he been constantly, you know, keep an eye on not, you know, my, you know, management in a sense. Yeah. Yeah. But this thing's, a lot of bad things, if I can say, should have been prevented. But do you not think the teenage? I think she needs to be, you know, friends involved.
Starting point is 00:29:33 Before cancel the trip, maybe he did it overdone it. He should have a conversation with her. Well, wait, before we go any further, we don't know if it's the mother or the father. who canceled the trip because anonymous doesn't say but here's my question that i thought would be jumped out at me this girl is 16 what family lets their child take a plain trip with her girlfriend at 16 for spring break i mean anonymous i hope that either you or one at least one of the other parents is going as a chaperone yeah but um you know the fact that she paid for the ticket i i think charles you have a point there in that respect for your parents goes a long way and with with uh you know
Starting point is 00:30:33 the fun things in life also comes responsibility so i think maybe something was missed there in the translation with the daughter understanding her position in the family and what the expectations is that kind of what you were saying, Charles? Like the expectations needed to be made clear? Right. I think the parents, to say the list, they have neglected a lot of details in the past. So you don't think teenagers can just be rotten kids because of hormones? No, I don't think, well, that's not my understanding.
Starting point is 00:31:07 If you're being, you know, treating her, taking care of her, you don't have to, you know, ask her every day. She was asking her to fold her. laundry and she didn't feel like doing it and snapped and then was griping under her breath. That is a normal teenage thing and I do
Starting point is 00:31:26 think hormonally they get a little bit bitchy certain times of the month but for mom to get that mad or pissed off however you want to put it, I get it because they're being brats to go cancel that I think you stepped out of the
Starting point is 00:31:42 out of bounds there because you didn't pay for it she did. I might not allow her to go if she kept her attitude up, but you can't cancel. It's take you over the money. Yeah. Plus, I think, you know, Kathy, you know, say, you know, we don't know that real situation. Right. If they have a normal life, you have the mother and the dad, you know.
Starting point is 00:32:06 Right. I mean, Charles, I got to interrupt you. Who has a normal life anymore? But carry on. Go ahead. I think at this circumstances, you know, that if. the dad canceled the ticket, the mom would, you know, stepped in to calm the situation down and talk to the daughter, you know, to find out, you know, why things have been going that
Starting point is 00:32:30 extreme. But I mean, honestly, this can be very, very frustrated as a matter. Yes, it can. Yes, my daughter's going through it with almost 13 year old. You know what I mean? And girls do have moods. Yeah, but I don't, I think all kids, I mean, I'm sensing that Charles, and correct me if I'm wrong, Charles, I'm sensing that you think this is more a parental issue of not doing their job correctly. Am I correct? Yeah, not on time. Yeah, well, I'm here to tell you, I was a perfect parent, as was my husband. Perfect. And we had problems with all three of our children when they we're teenagers. So thanks a lot, Charles. You made my day. I'm Jamil Hill, host of the Sports and Politics Podcasts Politics. And on the latest
Starting point is 00:33:26 episode of Politics, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries joins me for a candid conversation about the state of the Democratic Party. What do Republicans say to you privately that they won't say publicly? Many of them are in fear of their political lives. And that's been part of the challenge, but we continue to say to them, you were elected to defend your constituents, to stand up for your constituents. And there's life after Congress. And you should be willing to actually want to be able to look back on your time in the House of Representatives knowing that you can keep your head held high because you did the right thing. Donald Trump is gone in three and a half years. But their legacy or their failure to stand up to the extremism and the
Starting point is 00:34:10 unprecedented assault on America as we know it, we'll be with them forever. And I'm Maya. In each episode, we'll talk about love, friendship, heart breaks, men, and, of course, our favorite secrets.

All right, Charles, now we want to know, and Bachelor Nation fans want to know all about you. We have this little fun game we'd like to do. today before we have to wrap this up. So these are fun, easy questions, so Bachelor Nation can get to know you a lot better. And no, Charles, we've asked these same questions to every guy from Joan's season that we've been to read. So it's going to be fun.
Starting point is 00:38:24 Okay. Kathy, you want to start? All right. What's one piece of advice, Charles, that you wish you could give your younger self? Read more books. read more books how many books do you read well I didn't count
Starting point is 00:38:44 but I think I should have read more than I read that's I mean that's the kind of advice to myself when I were young yeah okay and how how do you unwind after a long day well this is
Starting point is 00:39:01 if you have a good day you know it may be easier if you have a bad day will be very, very difficult. Sometimes I would say take a deep breath and forget it and move on. But how do you unwind when you get home from a long day? What is it you do that you like to do
Starting point is 00:39:20 that helps you just unwind? Yeah, listen to music. Oh, what's your favorite kind of music? Any, you know, I'm not an artist in a sense, but anything a light, classic, you know, like instruments-wise, for example, you know. So you like, do you like classical music?
Starting point is 00:39:39 Yeah, just, you know, calm you down, you know, relax, you know. And even though I don't interpret the music as many, as many, you know, people do. But that's the way, you know, it's my way of, you know, enjoying music. Yeah. Nice. Yeah. I even like listen to the ballet dance, yeah, for example. Chikovsky?
Starting point is 00:39:59 Do you mean like Chikovsky? Like that Swan Lake? Yeah, yeah, yeah, the swan lady, you know, you know. Yeah, all right. You enjoyed it, yeah. I took my music appreciation course. I know what's up with classical. I like a saxophone, a good saxophone.
Starting point is 00:40:12 Oh, yeah, good jazz. Some good jazz. Okay, what was your favorite meal, Charles, growing up? Fish and the rice. What kind of fish? Well, we used to eat a lot of freshwater fish. We have many, many times. I'm not a big fan for the fish from the sea.
Starting point is 00:40:35 for example, because the area I was brought up, we always eat fresh water fish. And in those days, it's not polluted. They are so delicious. Yeah, that's my favorite, yeah. Do you cook now? Wait, do you cook? Yes, I do. You know, it's not, you know, I really enjoy it because, as you know, it takes a lot of time.
Starting point is 00:40:58 No, I don't know because I don't cook. Yes, it does, Charles. Yeah, I need to, you know, because to eat outside is sometimes. It's really not healthy. Not healthy, especially when we do it a lot. Right. Charles, what is something you've always wanted to do but have it done yet? I wanted to be a lawyer.
Starting point is 00:41:19 And unfortunately, when I was that age, I didn't have the money to go to the law school. You know, it's very difficult to get a scholarship. Yes, it is. It's easier to get other scholarships for other majors, but I really, really want to be a lawyer. kind of law? What kind of law would you have practiced? Probary criminal law. Really? Now that surprises me because am I, I'm just going to, you know, say what I think here. I think you tend to be more black and white. And law to me, and I've had personal experience with
Starting point is 00:41:55 it, is law is not set in stone. It's really how well you can argue your case. The law's a suggestion, not really you know Kathy you might be not right you might be not right and Charles that would not be the first time that I have not been correct but go ahead tell me why this minute
Starting point is 00:42:15 the reason wanted to be a lawyer is it's like my person that I really enjoy it you know I love the cases to be you know heated you know argued debated at the end you like that back and forth
Starting point is 00:42:31 Yeah. You would have made a great lawyer. Yes, you would have. But that's something I asked about, something that you always wanted to do and have it done yet. You're not going to now be a lawyer. What about an activity like jumping out of an airplane
Starting point is 00:42:44 or something that you always want it to do? Anything like that? No, I never enjoyed those kind of adventure activities in a sense. Okay. And I fairly, you know, I can be quote unquote, brutal in court, not in this kind of activity. So what do you want to do, Charles?
Starting point is 00:43:04 Give us one thing that you want to do. You're not going to become a lawyer because, you know, for obvious reasons, that ship has sailed, that cruise ship has sailed. What would you like to do that? That is probably to improve my dancing. Oh, I like it. I could teach you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:23 I think they should let us on dancing with the stars, Charles and I. Yeah, I'm going to sit that one out. Okay. Last question here before we, I have to wrap this. What would the title of your autobiography be, Charles? Oh, that's tough. The title. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:47 Something like a man's dream to be realized. Say that again? A man's dream to be realized. That's way too many words. How about this one? Charles in charge. How about that? Charles and Charles?
Starting point is 00:44:04 Sure. Yeah. Charles dream. Charles, take charge. Charge, Charles. I don't know. I was too probably like the Charles in charge. All right.
Starting point is 00:44:15 I like it. I like it. And you know what, Charles, I like you. We both enjoy you so, so much. Oh, thank you. You're going to find that person. You're going to, it's going to happen. Well, for all of us, I hope.
Starting point is 00:44:29 And you know what, Susan? wait a minute you know what's going to happen he's going to find a woman here it is here's my prediction charles you're going to find a woman who has a nasty little teenage daughter and you are going to set her straight that's what's going to happen that's what's going to happen i hope we all get to meet on that cruise ship on the golden paradise susan i'll be dancing with you and i'll be walking around the ship at my five miles in i'll be dancing i guarantee i guarantee I'll buy you all the drinks.
