This is an I-Heart podcast.
I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the psychology podcast.
Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about how to be a better you.
When you think about emotion regulation, you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy
which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome.
Avoidance is easier.
Ignoring is easier.
Denials easier.
Complex problem solving takes effort.

On the latest episode of Next Question with me, Katie Couric, I sat down with Jasmine Crockett,
Democratic Representative of Texas.
She's holding out the fork for her party in one of the most conservative states in the
Union.
I think that ultimately, who will become the Democratic nominee for president will be someone
that has been out there and has shown that they won't allow themselves to be punched and just
say thank you. Like, they will punch
back. Listen to next question
with me, Katie Couric on the IHeart
Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or

Hey everyone.
Welcome back to another episode of Badger, Happy Hour.
Unfortunately, Serena is not with me.
I'm all by myself.
She's a little under the weather.
So I'm going to be doing this recap alone.
Later this week, you have to stay tuned.
We have April from the Golden Bachelor.
Aaron S. from Bachelor in Paradise. And I will say during my whole podcasting journey,
Aaron S may have told the most interesting, craziest, scariest story I have yet to hear. So
stay tuned for that. It runs a little long because the story is just so intense. I don't
know if you guys heard about it, but essentially they were 17 miles in the ocean and the boat
went under. I'll leave it at that. Check it out later this week. We're going to drop it. Okay. I'm going to
recap Golden Bachelor. First, we are on week three. There are 12 women left, which it does seem
pretty quick. But that's how it always feels. The show moves quick. First,
First thing in the episode I made note of is we have our first group forming in Golden Bachelor.
Now we see on The Bachelor, Bachelorette, there's definitely clicks, Bachelor in Paradise, sometimes not as vocal, but as a viewer you pick up on who likes who, who's friends with who.
This group is called Askin, and it is April, Susan, Kathy, and Nancy, all very likable people.
Now, when you form a group, that means you are kind of separating yourself from everyone else.
Like, these are the people that I like.
I may or may not get along with everybody else, but this is now my crew, which is great
because that's going to definitely stir up some shit and some drama.
And we definitely are starting to see that.
They're called Askin because it's their first initials.
and they're always telling what does that mean are they always telling on other people are they telling on each other that i didn't
really get um but i i can't talk shit about them because i do like them all um we will see as this
goes on um and i'll talk about later that the beef between kathy april and teresa um okay so we go to a talent show
We see Caitlin Bristow there.
Always good to see her.
Talent shows are the worst.
I feel for them.
I watch it and I feel uncomfortable because I know how much anxiety and how anxious I would be trying to show off a talent in front of strangers.
And then in front of the person that you're trying to date.
But they all did really well.
I would say that the two that stuck off from me at the beginning would be Ellen and Sandra.
And we see, you know, Caitlin, when you get a big.
belly laugh out of Caitlin.
It's funny.
And then we see Leslie come out.
And Leslie, she looks great.
She moves like she's 23 years old.
She gives Gary a lap dance.
And you can tell Gary is, I mean, the guy's into it.
At the end, she feeds him a little cake.
Not only can she get down, she could also cook.
And is this kind of like coming?
for April. I don't know because we did see Gary's birthday party. April was the first one to give him
a lap dance. And then probably I would say the main focus point during this talent show was Joan
because Joan was very hesitant. She didn't want to do it. She doesn't have a talent. You always have
that person that is freaking out prior to the talent show. And she comes out and she says,
a poem she does really well everybody's super supportive of her gary loves it gary to me gary is
very into jones a very attractive woman um and he's like joan you conquered your fear which
personally i always think it's a little unfair when somebody is super nervous goes out does well
but did she do as well as everyone else or was it more
of a pity rose are a pity one-on-one.
I don't know if it's a pity one-on-one because I do think he's really attracted to her.
And maybe that was a good enough reason for him to give her the one-on-one.
But Joan gets the one-on-one.
Okay, so the dinner portion with Joan and Gary, I think they have, I think they have a connection.
I don't know how strong it is.
But just by the way Gary looks at her, I think he's really, I think he's really into her.
I would say Joan, at this point, I'm like, Joan's going, Joan's going top four.
He really likes her.
She seems to be into him.
I don't think it could have went better for Joan.
She thought she was going to flop.
It worked.
Their connection's strong.
They kiss.
Great.
So, Joan's going to be there.
She gets a rose.
Knock, knock.
Unfortunately, Joan now has to leave.
because of a family emergency.
Her daughter just had a baby.
It was not the easiest pregnancy.
And she just truly needs her mom.
So Joan is choosing her family over Gary,
which totally makes sense.
Now, I feel for her in this situation, of course,
I feel for Gary.
And it's really how strong was her connection?
And I think even if it's super strong,
Jones probably still going to choose to go home to her daughter and makes sense.
Gary tears up a little bit and he's like, you know, you just, I get it.
One of the things about this show is everyone on it, for the most part, is very emotionally mature.
So it makes for like, yeah, you know, Gary instead of like pouting or being upset is like, I totally understand you have to do what you have to do.
And Joan's like, yes, I do.
So she leaves, no more Joan, thought she was going to be in the top four.
But she's not because she is no longer there.
Who knows?
Maybe she comes back at the end.
I heard the end's crazy.
So I wouldn't be shocked, but we don't know.
Okay.
Next date.
He gives the date to Ellen and they go on a hot air balloon.
I think, and I keep comparing.
Ellen and Gary to Charity and Doughton, I really think they both really like each other.
I see actual chemistry there.
It doesn't seem forced at all.
They seem to really get along.
Ellen looks so sweet in her pink gown.
She's just having so much fun.
And Ellen just gives me young energy.
Like she's spunky.
She's happy.
She's always smiling.
She's just in a good mood.
and that's contagious and I think Gary eats that up I think he really likes her like we saw in the last episode he's going out of his way to give her a gift and I also like the fact that Ellen is one of the older women in the house she's 71 and all the women just seem to be so happy for her so and when you see that everyone else in the house is happy for that one person that means they're likable and they're a nice
person so really into her she and honestly like how do you not love an elementary sex ed teacher she used
that as her jokes a little vagina hoo-ha whatever that was great though um just a wonderful personality
really like them also in my top four and i think i said that at the beginning i got to check with serena
but i'm pretty sure she is i don't know if i put joan in there but if i did
she's gone. Okay. Here's the thing, right? We're halfway through this show. It's, it's happy. It's sad.
But, you know, here we are. There's no, there's no real drama. And like, you kind of, when you watch a
reality show, you do need a little bit of that. So am I checking out? No, but I'm kind of like,
okay. And then here we go. All of a sudden,
We see Kathy start freaking out.
And she's freaking out because Teresa is talking to her a lot about her connection with Gary, which we always see.
And it's never a good mood or it's never a good move to tell someone about your connection with the person they're also vying for.
So Kathy all of a sudden, like breaks down and like starts crying and essentially, you know, runs away.
which it seemed extreme but at this point I don't know how much Teresa has been saying
now we're seeing little clips of her going around and I get it in Teresa's case because
she's never been on the show she's excited she's got a connection with him but uh does she
have any ulterior does she have any motives where she's kind of I don't know just trying
to psych out the other women like I have a great connection you're wonderful and I'm
sure he likes you but we have a real connection and i i kind of think that's what's happening um
so kathy runs away and we see as kathy's goes and grabs gary we see all the women are kind of like
circled around and april who is not scared to speak out and i interviewed her and she will throw
shade basis like maybe certain people should keep their mouth shut love it all right now i'm
I'm back in this thing.
She's essentially throwing a dig at Trisa.
Trisa picks up on it.
And now we see like there's definitely going to be a split between women.
And it does, it does seem like people are really against Trisa.
She's not only doing this to Kathy.
It seems like other people are picking up on it too.
So they have a conversation.
And April's just like essentially like, yeah, like nobody wants to hear it.
which I get.
So we got that.
And then Kathy talks to Gary and she's a mess and Gary.
There's a little rose happy.
I'm not going to lie.
I don't know if she should have gotten a rose from this.
He could have waited, but he's like, I really like you.
For anyone to make you sad isn't fair, you get a rose.
If he had watched the show, he probably should have waited because he should.
should have been able to, he should have waited to have a conversation with Teresa to then
feel out the situation. So honestly, I'm not in favor of Gary giving Kathy a Rose in that moment.
I don't have an issue if he's into her and then gives one later. I think he jumped the gun on
that, which is great because it makes for good TV and then people are upset and then people even get more
man. And also, don't get me wrong, I do really like Kathy. And one of the reasons I like Kathy
is just based off of this photo alone. And it's a photo Kathy posted on our page of her and Susan,
basically leaning into the fact that everyone calls them Chris and Caitlin. I love that. She's
having fun with that. It shows that she has a sense of humor. And who knows, maybe we'll get
both of the real ladies at one of the after show.
So I'm excited to see that.
And yeah, Kathy,
Kathy's great.
And honestly, thank God for Kathy because she's making some TV now
and she's working hard.
My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly
and now I'm seriously suspicious.
Oh, wait a minute, Sam.
Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit.
Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast.
So we'll find out soon.
This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out
with his young professor a lot.
He doesn't think it's a problem.
but I don't trust her.
Now, he's insisting we get to know each other,
but I just want her gone.
Now, hold up.
Isn't that against school policy?
That sounds totally inappropriate.
Well, according to this person,
this is her boyfriend's former professor
and they're the same age.
It's even more likely that they're cheating.
He insists there's nothing between them.
I mean, do you believe him?
Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him
because he now wants them both to meet.
So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend
really cheated with his professor or not?
To hear the explosive finale,
listen to the OK Storytime podcast
on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the Psychology Podcast.
Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about exploring human potential.
I was going to schools to try to teach kids these skills, and I get eye rolling from teachers
or I get students who would be like, it's easier to punch someone in the face.
When you think about emotion regulation, like you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy,
which is more effortful to use, unless you think there's.
a good outcome as a result of it if it's going to be beneficial to you because it's easy to say like go you
go blank yourself right it's easy it's easy to just drink the extra beer it's easy to ignore to suppress
seeing a colleague who's bothering you and just like walk the other way avoidance is easier
ignoring is easier denial is easier drinking is easier yelling screaming is easy complex problem solving
meditating you know takes effort listen to the psychology podcast on the iHeart radio app
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
I think Democrats have, for a very long time,
allow Republicans to play them.
So essentially, Republicans came up with a narrative,
and Democrats decided to play into that.
And that only hurt the Democrats.
I'm Kitty Couric.
Jasmine Crockett, Democratic Representative of Texas,
is not known for holding back.
And our recent chat on next question is no exception.
But when you hear how she got to where she is, her intensity makes perfect sense.
It's just hard to imagine a world where you don't have enough people that care to do right by people.
And so that same passion that carried me through as a public defender that led me to want to change laws
and thinking about the harm that will happen not just to my constituents, but just generally, like I carry that weight.
with me because you've seen it up close.
Yeah.
Listen to next question with me, Katie Couric on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts.
So, Kathy comes back.
She's happy.
Gary calls the Audible.
And then I didn't know, Teresa, there's a disturbance.
Teresa is a disturbance.
I think that's what, yeah, that's what I wrote.
And then Trisa talks to Gary and he's like, hmm, but I really like her.
Gary is almost starting to flirt the line of being a little too nice and too trusting.
He does need to understand when there's a bunch of people competing for one person or one thing.
everyone has a little bit of a competitive nature and i and i think that's what's going on and i don't know
if gary is picking up on that um but we'll see we now there's a line drawn in the sand um and then we see
kathy and tricea have a conversation and kathy i respect because she she sticks to her guns and
she's like oh this is how you made me feel and you shouldn't do that and so Teresa's like i'm sorry
I didn't know I was doing that.
But then we see at the end, which was the best part, after the rose ceremony, I'll talk about
who leaves.
After the row ceremony, and they both get a rose, Teresa still starts jabbing at Kathy talking about
her connection with Gary again, which I don't know if that was done on purpose or not.
I love it.
I love the move.
And now we're going full steam, Kathy first, Teresa.
unfortunately for trisa she doesn't have asking to back her up so i don't know who's on her team
but but this is the beginning of a fight and i love it i'm here for it so unfortunately
we see christina go home we don't really see much of christina during um these past few episodes
edith who i really liked and we did see a decent amount of but i guess we didn't really see
much of her and Gary so I'm assuming there just was no connection there I'm surprised she went
home but she's gone we lose three people Edith Christina Joan is it the last we've seen a
Joan I don't know and this is the first time I'm actually thinking that it's on this podcast so we'll
see so that is it for my recap on Golden Bachelor but we do see next week it is the pickleball
tournament, which is the perfect time for there to be some sides in this house because I feel like
these ladies are really going to go at it. Gary loves pickleball. This is their Super Bowl. So
let's go. Can't wait to see what happens there. I'm pretty sure there's going to be a fight.
And I think somebody sprains her ankle or hurts her ankle. We see someone go down. I think it's
April, but we'll see. We'll check that out. Okay. On to the show that
I met my wife. Bachelor in Paradise, here we are. Girls have the roses.
So the first time in the show that the power is now switched, which we always see a lot of flip-flopping when this happens.
Tanner's the first guy comes down from charity season. Multiple girls have expressed that they're into Tanner.
Jess and Kat would be the top two.
He grabs Jess first.
And I will say
Jess wasn't giving me
I don't think she was like
let's go on a date.
I think she said like I'm interested in getting
to know you more but I do really like Blake
which I thought was interesting
because she did really want to see him.
Cat on the other hand was also
very much in the Tanner
and I know it's kind of a thing
between cat and Jess, which we will get into, which in cat's defense, right, if Jess is super
into Tanner, but Tanner talks to Jess and then talks to cat and chooses cat, she's not really
going to, what's she going to say? No, no, you should take Jess. He's going to be like, well,
I talk to Jess and I chose you. So she could have turned the date down, but,
that's just an awkward situation and then Jess would feel like second best so i don't think
anyone wins in that scenario so i'm glad she went on the date now we see that she's been talking
to braden right don't know how serious it is they've been hugging kissing obviously she wants
a rose she seems to be into him we know he's really into her but this is all through interviews
Because as far as any conversations on the beach, I don't really see any of them going into depth or getting super serious.
Like, I'm just not, I'm not getting any of those conversations yet.
So I don't trust any of these relationships.
And I mean, Kat said in the circle of trust with Hannah Brown that she's waiting to see multiple people.
So cat goes on the date.
But what she doesn't do is she doesn't talk to Brayden, she almost ignores him, which is her right.
I think it's rude.
I think most people are going to think it's rude, but she has every right to do what she wants, really.
And maybe that's easier for her to end the relationship of like, hey, this was never that serious.
so let's not make it. Her attitude to me is like this was never serious. So let's not pretend it is. It is what she's giving. So she goes on a date with Tanner. Braden's freaking out. He's upset. We see him tear up a little bit. He doesn't want to get hurt. Everyone on the beach also feels for Braden, which makes me think that their relationship was a little more serious than Kat is leading on because even her friend.
friends when Kat gets back are like, hey, you should like pay attention, read the room and talk to
Braden. And Kat is someone who seems to get very defensive. And she grabs Braden. So after the date,
her and Tanner have a good time. She's going to go with Tanner. We don't really know how Tanner
feels about her, which is weird. I'm sure we're going to see it next episode. She grabs
Braden and basically says like, my feelings for you will not go any further. I'm going with
somebody else. Rip the Band-Aid off. And I don't really have an issue with it. She's just,
that's how she's going to do it. She's going to get some hate, but it is what it is.
what's where in my opinion cat is in the wrong is then she gets upset that Brayden's upset
and she has no right to tell him how he should feel about the situation so that's where
I think she's wrong her ending it with him and being a little cold like you know that's just
that's just the name of the game so be it but she shouldn't have to tell she shouldn't be telling
Braden like this is how you should feel about the situation that's bullshit and that's I think
where most people will side with Braden um and yeah that that that was that's that was the main
drama of the episode um I don't know I I'm curious to see how Tanner actually feels about cat
because now she's like her and Braden are done and if he goes back to her that's
that's a that's a huge mistake um but we'll see i'm curious where this goes i'm curious to see
what happens with brayden because you know everyone judges everyone else for talking to someone to
get a rose but if you want to stay and you want to see who's coming next week you kind of have no
choice so i'm curious to see where brayden is going to go from here and i don't
Tanner's pretty level-headed.
So I don't know how he's going to feel about this whole situation
when the guys probably sit down and have a guy chat with him
and then he's going to be like, oh, interesting, let me talk to her.
And then she's probably going to get upset at Tanner for talking to him.
So it's going to be a whole fucking thing.
So we'll see.
My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly, and now I'm seriously suspicious.
Oh, wait a minute, Sam.
Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit.

Got another guy shows up on the beach,
which now they're starting to play, like, weird music.
They got, like, rock and roll music down
when Tyler Norris walks in.
He's not giving me heavy rock,
but here comes Tyler Norris.
He grabs Rachel to talk.
Now we know Rachel,
Tyler was one of her top guys.
Nothing really comes of that talk.
It does seem like Rachel wanted Tyler to take her on a date.
But yeah,
we're not getting much from there.
Honestly,
I thought that was going to be a deeper conversation
because I remember how hurt he was when she didn't pick him.
Hot Sean is kind of freaking out, but he's good.
He's a narrator, so I don't know what Hot Sean's deal is, but he is funny.
And then Tyler also grabs Mercedes to talk, which now we see baby boy Will.
Will is having a tough go at this point.
it just doesn't seem like Will is going to be able to hang on to a girl because Tyler
comes back and he ends up asking Mercedes.
So poor Will again, that's like, I don't know.
Like should he have stayed, try to see where things went with Olivia?
Maybe, maybe.
But yeah, all the girls are excited about Tyler, but he picks Mercedes, which I,
wrote i was kind of shocked by that i actually didn't see that coming um so they go on a date
i'm going to talk about their date before i get into all this poop baby shit but um i will say
the we're tylers is has a bubbly personality good looking guy super nice in mercedes
the same good looking bubbly fun personality
When you're out of date and you have to check with each other to make sure that you guys have chemistry, there's no chemistry, my opinion.
And when you have to be like, oh, we have chemistry, I think we have chemistry.
You guys don't have chemistry.
That's my opinion.
So I don't know.
We'll see what happens there.
She does come back.
She talks to Will, which I like Mercedes.
I think she has a good heart and I think she felt bad.
I think in her heart she knows she's going to choose Tyler
but I think she feels bad just straight up ending it with Will
so she's kind of like I got to sleep on it sort of thing
so we'll see what happens but if I had the guess
Will's gone
okay so a couple that we haven't seen much of
is Aaron S
like I said he's coming on the podcast and Sam
they seem to actually be a stronger couple than we even know and I do like them both but
Sam hasn't been able to take a shit for 10 days which is usually the opposite in paradise
because people usually get a little little their stomach gets upset um she's also like
has an eight pack and it's not even bloated like if i didn't go to the bathroom for eight days
i don't even know how i would look um but that's got to be super uncomfortable and when you're
trying to like meet someone and you know feel and be sexy and have that uh that be those beginning
steps of a relationship it's kind of hard when like you're constipated so she can't go to the
bathroom. But the problem is, if she doesn't, she's going to have to go to the hospital and
deliver this poop baby. I don't know how they're going to go about that. I don't really care.
I don't want to know. But I want to see her stay. So she talks to Aaron. It basically explains
the situation. And in my opinion, he couldn't have been more of a gentleman about it. He made her
feel comfortable. He made her laugh. It makes me like them both. Um,
He makes her a plate, which I don't know if it's going to work.
She should just be drinking hot sauce at this point or drink some water, drink some of the water.
I mean, that always gets to be sick out in Mexico.
But yeah, he's going to do his best to deliver it himself.
So she doesn't have to go to the hospital.
If we see a teaser for next week, if it's not deliver it.
on if she can't take a fucking shit then she has to she has to leave i don't know where that
i don't know what happens with erin s i don't know if the relationship is strong enough
at this point for him to be like okay let's see where things go outside of this i'll leave
with you um it's a teaser for next week so we don't know what happens um and i actually
don't really have an opinion on it because i don't i don't have enough of a feel
um i i kind of think he may go as well but i don't know i just don't know i'll be curious
to see if the show maybe tries to if she leaves and he stays maybe they try to drop another
girl early to to keep somebody around otherwise we're going to have guys um dropping like flies
here um yeah it was something we i want to talk about that we see in the up
coming trailer for next week's episode is one of the stronger couples on the beach at this
point seems to be Aaron B. and Eliza. Eliza, who went through a ton last season, you know,
she knows what it's like to be in a thruple and have to deal with all that that goes on. And she got a
ton of hate for it and it was emotional and very hard on her and she talks about it.
She's having a great time with Aaron B.
She seems to be really into him.
He seems to be really into her.
They get past the fact that he kissed Mercedes.
Everything seems to be kind of smooth.
We see her potentially on another date with another guy.
Eliza, what are you doing?
You don't have to go out of date with everyone that asks you on this show.
I just don't see how that's going to play out for her or him.
If this was her first time down here, I get it.
But after going through everything she went through last season,
I cannot believe this girl goes out of date with someone else.
But maybe I'm speaking out of turn.
We don't know how this goes down.
So I'm excited to see next week's episode to see what happens there.
But if I had the guess, that is not going to be smooth.
So we'll see.
We'll see who else comes down.
I'm excited to see next week what girls get dropped.
If they still drop more guys, we have a rose ceremony, who's going home,
what's going to happen at the end of this?
Will we get an engagement?
We know we get a marriage.
But I've already been married twice, so it's not me.
I've been married twice to the same girl.
So yeah, excited to see where that goes.
Okay, guys, that is my recap of both episodes.
I hope you enjoyed next week.
We will have Serena back because I think she is getting better.
Can't wait to see what goes on with these episodes.

Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about how to be a better you.
When you think about emotion regulation,
you're not going to choose an adapt to.
strategy, which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome.
Avoidance is easier. Ignoring is easier. Denials easier. Complex problem solving takes effort.

Crockett, Democratic Representative of Texas. She's holding out the fork for her party in one of the
most conservative states in the union.
I think that ultimately, who will become the Democratic nominee for president will be someone
that has been out there and has shown that they won't allow themselves to be punched and
just say thank you.
Like, they will punch back.
