Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the psychology podcast. Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about how to be a better you. When you think about emotion regulation, you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome. Avoidance is easier. Ignoring is easier. Denials easier.
Starting point is 00:00:25 Complex problem solving takes effort. Listen to the psychology podcast on the. iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On the latest episode of Next Question with me, Katie Couric, I sat down with Jasmine Crockett, Democratic Representative of Texas. She's holding out the fork for her party in one of the most conservative states in the Union. I think that ultimately, who will become the Democratic nominee for president will be someone
Starting point is 00:00:52 that has been out there and has shown that they won't allow themselves to be punched and just say thank you. Like, they will punch back. Listen to next question with me, Katie Couric on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Culture eats strategy for breakfast, right?
Starting point is 00:01:12 On a recent episode of Culture Raises Us, I was joined by Belisha Butterfield, media founder, political strategist, and tech powerhouse for a powerful conversation on storytelling, impact, and the intersections of culture and leadership. I am a free black woman. From the Obama
Starting point is 00:01:28 White House to Google to the Grammysia's Journey is a masterclass in shifting culture and using your voice to spark change listen to culture raises us on the iHeart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts what's up everyone welcome back to another exclusive episode of bachelor happy hour we are graced with none other than the very special noah and abigail or abigail and Noah, the newly engaged couple from Bachelor in Paradise Season 7, our season, Serena. Yeah, correct. Our season. A very successful season.
Starting point is 00:02:04 A lot of engagements, a lot of couples, a lot of babies, a lot of fur babies coming out of that season. And we are so happy to have you guys here and we are so excited for you guys. Yes, congrats. Well, we're going to see you guys in a while. Yeah. No, we, so, you know, full transparency. Serena and I used to talk about how we just didn't think you guys were going to make.
Starting point is 00:02:23 it and then all of a sudden well dude i'm glad to be able to do an interview with you because you clearly out of your league spring's way out of your league i stumbled out of my league so what are we doing here you know just two very lucky men on this podcast two lucky man we but we anyways we overcame the odds we're super excited all right so we i i knew a little that a proposal was in the works because when I saw Abigail in Cabo, there was a little chitter chatter that something may be coming. But we didn't know when. And obviously, we have no behind the scenes info on how this all came to be. So let's just start from the beginning. Noah, when did you know you were going to propose to Abigail? Yeah. I mean, probably after we've been dating for, I don't remember
Starting point is 00:03:15 when it was, like a year. And we sat there and stared at each other in my bed and said, I love you. I was like, okay, all right, this isn't just like a show of love. I'm going to, I'm going to figure out how to propose at some point. Took a whole other. Was it, was it, was it, was it, was it, was it, was it, you guys stared at each other? Was it just like, I love you, I love you, or do you guys just keep saying it? Just said it like 50 times. Yeah, just over and over.
Starting point is 00:03:38 We tried to convince ourselves that we loved each other. No, we were just, we both paused. We looked at each other, and she said it. I said it. We'd already said a million times, but it kind of clicked. You know, I don't know if you remember. that but that's when I was like, all right, I'm going to marry this girl. But then obviously we went out to California. I was doing travel nursing. Got the ring, worked with Kesar. They were
Starting point is 00:04:06 amazing. And then didn't tell my parents until probably a week before. We're from the Midwest. So I got to like, you know, call my parents, call her parents. Okay, wait, but what was that time period from the week before to when you got the ring. Oh, yeah. So we're going to be out in San Diego till September. Abby got a house. We were going to go back. I'm thinking I got time. You know, I got a month, month and a half to figure this out. I'm chilling. Then she got a dog. Yeah, got a dog. And then she was like, I want to leave like in maybe two weeks. We're going to half. I was like, what? So I already had the ring. I've been hiding the ring. So then it was like, all right, game time. How do I pull this off? So it was literally like a two-day span of got a house
Starting point is 00:04:54 in La Jolla facing the beach, convinced her I was going to play pickleball. She really had no idea. We just said we're going to meet for a dinner, like a send-off, have some wine, playing Monopoly deal, cute pictures. San Diego was great, you know, because we're leaving. Yeah. But she showed up and we had people hiding in all the rooms, a bunch of our friends. So she's like trying to explore this house. That was a really nice house. And like I walked around the corner and my twin was there. He was like, so then it was like, all right, we're just doing it.
Starting point is 00:05:29 You know, so I had, I went to Trader Joe's and bought a million flowers, sprinkling them all over the rooftop, some candles. Didn't get to do the full presentation because they showed up 30 minutes early. Okay. So we just kind of just threw the flowers at somebody else's room. roof start walking up the stairs and she's like drinking her Celsius energy drinking the camera like looking around like oh this is so cool this roof is cool and Abigail I like Abigail Abigail not to cut you off we were having wine on the roof what was that Abigail you so you
Starting point is 00:06:01 at this point you have zero idea zero idea yeah well yeah it sounds like you tried to ruin this proposal unknowingly at every turn to ruin it the whole time and I was thinking I want to propose I always said, I want to propose to her before she moves to Oklahoma. You know, like, she's moving to my state. We want to get a life together. So that was like my timeline in my head. And it just got pushed forward, forward, forward to where it was like, all right, we're just going to do it.
Starting point is 00:06:28 So I think she thought I was already either going to do it. And I just, maybe we're just going to be dating for six years, like you, you know, but. I mean, we only had two days left in California at that point. And I was like, there's no way he can put it together that quickly. like we have the dog moving we're buying they call me the minute man you know what i'm talking about so i like close the chapter probably for a different reason it's not going to happen in california so i was like okay probably going to happen in alcohol i had an idea it would happen this year i just didn't know when because you never talked about it so i didn't have any idea and then bam it happened well i was gonna
Starting point is 00:07:06 worst case scenario we do in oklahoma i round up all the cows we're surrounded by nature you know She's just a good old fashion. So it was a quick timeline. And I grabbed everything out of her hand, like kind of aggressively because we're walking up the steps. And I don't want her to just be sitting there with like a Celsius in his camera. Yeah. It's not a Celsius plug.
Starting point is 00:07:27 And then we kept walking up. And all you could see was one of the photographer's head, just like floating. And she was like, is someone up there? And then her face was dropped. And there's like flowers everywhere. It was super pretty. Like 20 minutes before the sun. broke through the clouds because it was like rainy all day and like lit up the sky of nuts so pretty
Starting point is 00:07:48 I saw I thought it would be to be honest I was like wow this really turned out amazing wow this is insane against all odds the sky wants you want to say yes to yourself at this point I literally like who set this up this is so so beautiful avia at what point did you like clue and you were about to get engaged because I saw a video I don't know where it was but it was like a video of your proposal that was like taken did you and you were already crying like walking up the stairs at that point when were you like oh shit he's going to propose to me right now uh it was when the videographer's head popped around so i'm you have to like go around the corner it's like a side entrance and then there's like 15 stairs up to the roof right there so you can't see the top
Starting point is 00:08:35 of the roof when you first walk out and so i thought we were going to the roof going to have some wine they walked to dinner and he like grabbed my camera and my drink out of my hand. A little aggressive, I know, but. Well, so we had to take our shoes off before we went into the house. Thomas was like, hey, do you mind taking your shoes off? So I thought maybe the guy was like really stingy about what you could have on the roof. Like maybe no drink.
Starting point is 00:08:58 I don't know, no drinks, whatever. And I was like, oh, sorry. And he like kind of smiled and like started walking me up. I was like, that's kind of weird. And then I saw the big videographer's head pop out. And I saw like the first rose petal and like clip. I was like, okay, it's happening right now. And I started bawling.
Starting point is 00:09:13 I did not think I was going to cry. But I started like crying. Ugly crying the whole time. I was like I feel like I'm like actually right now, like ugly crying, but cover my as much as I can. Noah, well, okay, because I know for for myself, like when I got and I actually got down on one knee, like the nerves really kicked in. Once you got down on one knee, how were you nervous? Like, what was going through your mind?
Starting point is 00:09:36 Joe, don't compare us. We're not the same. I think my veins. Noah, do you work here? You cannot see it here. Listen, I'm just going to tell it like you. You can't say you were nervous. No, that's fair.
Starting point is 00:09:49 I believe. I believe. Was he, were you nervous? Yes or no? No, I was definitely a little nervous because I was like, I got one shot at this. And I'm kind of a shoot from the hip kind of guy. So I was just telling you. You reminded us that about 150 times in Paradise.
Starting point is 00:10:05 Go ahead. Yeah. I know. I know, right? Didn't make it on the show once. That was my line. Yeah. No.
Starting point is 00:10:11 So once I was like, I just got to. be as natural as I can like in my head we've already done this right I already feel like we're already there so now I just got to not look like an idiot because I'm not going to be like can we run that back so I pause we pause for like 30 seconds and I said I may be dumb but I ain't stupid that line I was like yeah and I said the stupidest thing for me to do would not marry you okay I like the ring so I made it like I can't mess that up because that's just I just got to get it done with. I just got to say something. Hopefully it makes sense. And then, you know, then we're good. I was nervous. I really didn't feel it. I didn't feel any different until maybe it was the Taylor Swift
Starting point is 00:10:52 concert, which we'll get into. But we got back from Taylor Swift last night. And I told every single person very confidently, I feel no different being an engaged man versus dating. We're already there. We're already comfortable. Then I got home last night. I was like, I'm engaged. I know you're already. You already want to wear. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Then I'm like, let's get married. So I definitely feel different. I was a little bit nervous. But no, not like you. I wasn't trembling.
Starting point is 00:11:19 Well, I mean, you had a little more time. I was, first of all, I was sweating because it was hot out. And yeah, you had. Is that why you were trembling? You had, and I was nervous. You know, it was the cameras. And Joe's race, Joe's racing a clock. I'm not racing the clock.
Starting point is 00:11:36 Joe's come on dang near 50. Well, but I mean, in, honestly, I feel like in a situation like yours, I would be probably just as nervous because there is still like a lot of buildup. You're single-handedly, you're basically setting it up. And then like Abigail could, you know, like she almost screwed it up. She's drinking her Celsius. She's walking around.
Starting point is 00:12:01 She's trying to figure out what's going on. So I think in your situation, I probably would be a nervous wreck. And I am someone that's probably gets more nervous in front of my friends and family. just because I feel more embarrassed. We made sure they were downstairs. We didn't let them come up during my speech. Oh, you didn't let up. Everyone stormed up after.
Starting point is 00:12:21 Okay. Stormed up with champagne and stuff. Yeah, so there was that. Honestly, to me, I kind of knew regardless if I fumbled, like I feel like she would expect me to fumble the bag. She's going to say yes either way. So that's like, okay, you can't really mess up. I mean, well, that should be true, but.
Starting point is 00:12:40 she goes she goes that's not true if you messed up i might have said now i'm like oh okay no but yeah there was all that pressure and it was like i want to just make this memorable for her and me and it's natural we have fun and now we go to the next stage you know we're moving back to oklahoma so it's like this will be the closing journey and it worked out worked out way better than i thought but it was it was really romantic like way to go noah like it was beautiful very romantic the ring Abby, did you know what ring he was going to get you? Did you pick it out? Yeah. So we actually looked at Raines together. So we had a lot of talks about this. So that's why I said, like, I kind of knew it was going to happen this year because obviously we were like,
Starting point is 00:13:22 are we ready to be engaged, so forth? And then Reigned, he came to me and asked because I honestly had no idea, like what I wanted. And he was like, well, you're the one that has to wear it. So I don't want to get something that you don't like and whatnot. So we actually like designed it together. But then he was like okay that's it that's all you know and he like closed the door and he was like you don't get to know anything else from here on now but that's a few months ago yeah I don't know how you guys did it at first I was like there was this shroud of secrecy and I'm like she can't know anything and then I'd give her these little teasers like oh look at that ring or I'd like talk trash and a girl's ring like on Instagram I'm like this is the ugliest thing I've ever seen to
Starting point is 00:14:02 see if she like likes it or not and then I'm like this is dumb I need to just include her I don't know why I have to keep this whole thing a secret. Let's let her pick out three rings that she kind of likes because she told me 85 rings that she doesn't like. I'm like, we're not going to get anywhere. I was always saying what I didn't like. Yeah. So I just included her in it. And then like a couple months ago, she asked, oh, remember we talked to the designer? Like, did you ever talk to him? And I was like, no, it just kind of like fell off. Like, I don't know. Just like forgot about that proposal. No, I'll reach out. I was like, I'll, yeah, I mean, I'll definitely try to reach out to him again, but it's just kind of like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:14:37 But I did half the ring already. It was in the closet. I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the psychology podcast. Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about exploring human potential. I was going to schools to try to teach kids these skills, and I get eye rolling from teachers or I get students who would be like, it's easier to punch someone in the face. When you think about emotion regulation, like, you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome as a result of it
Starting point is 00:15:10 if it's going to be beneficial to you because it's easy to say like go you go blank yourself right it's easy it's easy to just drink the extra beer it's easy to ignore to suppress seeing a colleague who's bothering you and just like walk the other way avoidance is easier ignoring is easier denial is easier drinking is easier yelling screaming is easy complex problem solving meditating, you know, takes effort. Listen to the psychology podcast on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. So in the last month, the Midas Touch Network beat Rogan, Tucker Carlson, Candice Owens, Charlie Kirk, and Ben Shapiro all combined. Conservative podcasts can have a major political impact, but the Myceles Brothers, three siblings with a serious media strategy, are building an alternative.
Starting point is 00:16:01 alternative to that. On the latest episode of Next Question with Katie Couric, I sat down with the brothers behind the Midas Touch Network to talk about how they built a progressive media powerhouse from the ground up, why audience interaction is the key to political influence and what it takes to fight disinformation at scale, one download at a time. We should be focusing on the issues that actually occupy a lot of the mental space in Americans' minds but are filled with conspiracies. We should fill it with the truth and solutions. Listen to next question with me, Katie Couric on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:16:41 The U.S. Open is here. And on my podcast, Good Game with Sarah Spain, I'm breaking down the players from rising stars to legends chasing history. The predictions will we see a first time winner and the pressure? Billy Jean King says pressure is a privilege, you know. Plus, the stories and events off the court. And, of course, the honey deuses, the signature cocktail of the U.S. Open. The U.S. Open has gotten to be a very fancy, wonderfully experiential sporting event. I mean, listen, the whole aim is to be accessible and inclusive for all tennis fans, whether you play tennis or not. Tennis is full of compelling stories of late. Have you heard about Icon Venus Williams' recent wildcard bids or the young Canadian, Victoria Mboko, making a name for herself? How about Naomi Osaka getting back to form? To hear this and more, listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain.
Starting point is 00:17:31 an I heart women's sports production in partnership with deep blue sports and entertainment on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports. See, trying to, like, you know, do the fake out or, you know, throw her off reminds me, I have a fair of doing that because of the Friends episode when Chandler tried to throw on. And then Monica, like, goes back to her ex-boyfriend. Yeah, I'd be like, oh, fuck. And then- I feel like any time you try to, like, keep a surprise from me, like, it's like I made a, you'll all of a sudden be like, okay, so Friday night, I made us like a dinner reservation.
Starting point is 00:18:15 Like, I'll get like, like, a little bit. And I'm like, oh, no way. And I'm like, but I'm not telling you where we're going. Yeah. And the next day you'll be like, do you want to know where we're going for dinner on Friday? Like, it's hard to keep secrets from like your significant other and especially secrets that it's like, it greatly affects her, like, what ring you pick. But I feel like the actual proposal.
Starting point is 00:18:33 The weekend that we went to the horse racing, because it was like a last minute brand deal, and Lori was the one telling me about it. And I was like, this seems really last minute. I'm not like getting a ton of information. It's like a little staycation in Del Mar. So I almost thought it would happen that weekend. It didn't. So then it threw me off.
Starting point is 00:18:51 But then the reason I didn't think it was happening this time was like, well, you just weren't doing anything. Yeah, I want to talk about this, by the way. I need to stand up for myself. But I was packing, well, I was packing all we like struts, like trying to pack up the house. And now it's just on the couch on his laptop and on his phone. And I'm like, do you want to help? Like, this is your stuff.
Starting point is 00:19:12 I'm packing up. And he's like, yeah, I'm busy. I'll be there in a second. And then two hours later, he's still on his laptop. And I'm just like, are you watching TikToks right now? Like, what are you doing? Can you come help? And then I found out later he was pornating everything.
Starting point is 00:19:24 Well, yeah, she thought it would happen at the racehorses. I feel like, and it never crossed my mind. I was hot tubbing. I surfed in the morning. got to go touch the horses. Then when I was like, all right, I'm going to do it. I already called the parents. I gave them a date, so I have to get on that date regardless.
Starting point is 00:19:42 I can't call him to be like, my bad. And how were Abigail's parents? They were happy? Oh, yeah. Oh, they've been asking left it right for the last year. No, her parents were great. They're amazing. They were like, I actually FaceTimed them.
Starting point is 00:19:58 I texted and said, hey, I got to talk to you about tall. because they're going to come visit. Yeah. But I just group FaceTimed them both. So I'm like, I don't know. Do I call mom or dad? This will be easy. Just group FaceTime.
Starting point is 00:20:09 And it was like, hey, I'm not talking about Tulsa. I want to marry your daughter. And they were like, yes. And I'm like, okay, that's all I need to know. Yeah. So it was good. But then, yeah, this last week, she's like having second doubt. She's like, this dude's a bum.
Starting point is 00:20:25 He's not helping me. I'm like being all mysterious and like disappearing and like, just yeah i i feel like i feel like you still i feel like i feel like you still could help but you knew that you would be able to use this as an excuse so you kind of took a step back so i think abigail should still be a little bit it's chest not checkers buddy no it was like i'm going to use this proposal to get out of all of my responsibilities with this move and she's going to be so happy in the ring so beautiful that what's you're going to say when we're all sitting here knowing it worked and after the fact i'm like
Starting point is 00:21:00 so glad it's all over. I'm like, people put so much, like, pressure on that. Yeah. And it's, it's truly just a few moments. And now it's like, all right. Like, you're such a relief. I don't know. Yeah. Now you get to enjoy it. Like, the planning is the stressful part. Now you're engaged. It's just like the fun part. Yeah. Abigail, how do you feel about Noah explaining your engagement as just like a few moments? We'll talk later. One could argue life could be described by Just a few simple moments, Joe. Wow. That's a beautiful.
Starting point is 00:21:33 It's beautiful. It's a beautiful. It's in your pocket over there. So let's talk about, real quick. Let's talk about the, so it happens. Like, I guess who's there? Like you said, you mentioned Thomas. So I'm assuming Becca and Thomas are there.
Starting point is 00:21:46 Like, who's with you guys? What are you doing? You're just getting drunk, having a good time. What's going on? Yeah. And I saw you posted, like, thanking Becca and Thomas for, like, all their help. Like, what kind of role did everyone play, including them and, like, setting up the engagement? they were paramount in it for at least me because thomas i was like hey i need to get a
Starting point is 00:22:08 house like in my head i always wanted to propose on the beach like i want a lot of people around so i just got to try to find a house and thomas knows so many people on san jago it's crazy and becca was like becca distract her and then make sure and becca had her mom in town she's super pregnant and we're like distract her and make sure she wears like neutral colors She's like, oh, okay, great. I'll just tell her she's ugly when I walk in the house. But they coordinated everything. And then it was pretty much all of our, you know, we've been in Huntington, L.A.,
Starting point is 00:22:40 San Diego the last couple of years, just some of our closer friends out here, like 10 people. And, yeah, they all stormed. We drank, watched the sunset, smoked some cigars, chilled, and then went to some random pub. Some random guy bar. Nobody was there. No, it was great. It was great. And it carried on because there was a small window that I got an opportunity to go to Taylor Swift.
Starting point is 00:23:08 And we were supposed to leave today. We're supposed to drive across the country today. And we were shipping her car and there's all these things. And I was like, I got to make that happen. Like, that would be insane. You know, her last concert following up the engagement. So SoFi ended up picking it up for us. and she had no idea until the morning.
Starting point is 00:23:29 She thought we were going to pack up and leave. I was like Hanover, so tired. I was like, okay, I just want to go through all the pictures. And then he was like, surprised we're going to Taylor Swift tonight. And I was like, wait, I thought we were driving across the country today. Yeah. Wow. Is Noah the best, the best guy ever?
Starting point is 00:23:47 We'll tell you, like the past three days, this guy is just. And at Taylor Swift tickets. I mean, I'm not going to lie. I hate to set the standard the way I did it. I really do. Because I don't think I can maintain this, but the standard set. It's pretty good. Engagement one day.
Starting point is 00:24:04 Surprise Taylor Swift, the next. It's pretty good. This is the first night we actually got more than three hours of sleep. And now we get to pack, so we're not doing much. But where everything's like calm, I haven't even looked at texts from people. Like, it's just been go, go, go. Taylor Swift, I understand why she has a cult following. I'm the newest member.
Starting point is 00:24:26 It was insane. Yeah. And it's just been nuts. Like the last, yeah, two days have been absolutely nuts. And now it's like, all right. And it's time to like process. Yeah. I still feel like I'm engaged.
Starting point is 00:24:36 I just need to. I'll like, look at my hand. I'm like, oh, there's a rock on it. She sleeps with her ring. Do you sleep with your ring? I don't sleep with any jewelry on. Yeah, weird, right? But some girls do sleep in their jewelry.
Starting point is 00:24:49 But Abigail, you don't sleep in any jewelry typically, do you? Like my necklaces. I do. My earrings. I don't. The first night I slept with it on, because I did not want to take it off. So I slept with mine on, I think, the first, like, five nights because then they took it away or three nights, whatever, because then they take it away from us in Paradise. But then once I got it back, I don't sleep with it on.
Starting point is 00:25:10 I was just more worried. Like, I don't know. Just like, is it going to bend? I don't know. Yeah. It's not going to bend in diamond. Is it going to bend? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:25:21 Gold is super. Is this cheap ass ring going to bend? No, I'm like, it's not going to bed. What do you think kind of hoops I hurt hold last week? So what are you guys, what are you guys thinking about as far as wedding? Because you mentioned you're ready to get married, how long you think you're going to take. Any idea? I was trying not to think about it the first week and that already being so stressed thinking about it.
Starting point is 00:25:48 That's true. Oh, my gosh. We, I mean, we haven't really talked about it a whole lot. But I've decided, based off the last 12 hours, that I just want to do a closed wedding with, like, my family, not even any groomsmen, and just have a huge reception. Nice. That's what I said. We talked about that. That's my decision as of the last 12 hours.
Starting point is 00:26:15 Right. Abigail's just being informed of this right now. So Abigail, Noah's already planned your wedding as well. What about, what about? You're more than welcome to. We'll see. What did you say? Would you say, Abigail?
Starting point is 00:26:26 I think it was trash talk. Talking shit. You're talking shit over there, Abigail? I just said he wants to take the reinswork planning. We'll see how hard we get with that. But you're more than working. Wow. Work this weekend.
Starting point is 00:26:39 Shots fired. Just saying. The guy plans a beautiful engagement, Taylor Swift tickets. And she still. The guy just said an unrealistic standard for men. Still. Yeah. It's just a matter if you could do it twice, Noah. And Abigail doesn't know about that.
Starting point is 00:26:53 I don't need to do it twice. It worked once. That is true. The wedding is, I don't want to do a super long engagement because I am going to, like, I just want to get you done with it, but I don't want to just rush through. I bet you guys get married next year, like around this time. Joe's that we break up, so I guess. I'm actually curious.
Starting point is 00:27:20 Go and read it. Yeah. Just as a, this is a Joe. Reddit collab right here. They are breaking up for sure. I know him that just talks trashing me. What's that you do, it's me in those chat rooms.
Starting point is 00:27:34 What about, and okay, so whatever. I know, and it makes sense that you really haven't thought about the wedding. Okay, wait, but you guys have like a, like Abigail, you have like a vision of what kind of wedding you want. Yeah, so definitely going with what Noah said, definitely keeping it smaller, like on the smaller side, like under 100 people. like we only had 10 people at our engagement night and it just felt like so much to try to talk to everybody and like share in that excitement and it was only 10 people so I couldn't imagine trying to
Starting point is 00:28:05 do it like a 300 person wedding and then also just like we're working on a house too so just that project with planning I'm just like okay well I don't have it I don't know it's just it's a lot of money and whatnot for two really big projects in one year so I'm still trying to recover from physically peeing myself at Taylor Swift. I've just been engaged. We're driving across the country at midnight tonight and turning into a full
Starting point is 00:28:33 Chip and Joanna Gaines, Renault. Do you think you're really to pee? I'm not thinking about the wedding right now. Do you think you're going to pee yourself driving to Oklahoma? You're talking to an ICU nurse that's got just Foley's all over the house. I'm slinging an IV in, throwing
Starting point is 00:28:49 a catheter in. No. That's so. maybe wait okay so um the house so you guys bought a house in tulsa and now you're gonna and the goal is to fix it up is that what you're doing so abby um got a house in Tulsa and you also have property in Tulsa i've got a few properties in Tulsa and i used to do rentos so i'm going to try to pick that back up i enjoy it and yeah so we're going to be doing that but main focus is her house making it all nice. I know Thomas has been
Starting point is 00:29:23 renewing him and Becca's house. Do you get any tips from them on how that's been going? I'm not going. I was like, don't like him start a new project until he finished shows. One, because they have a bunch of like unfinished projects in the house. I'm like, oh yeah, Thomas started
Starting point is 00:29:39 touching now I can tell. Okay, now he's working on this. So we're going to try to go one room at a time. Yeah, Abby's just now realizing this as we're trying to pack. I'm like a squirrel. So we're going to We also have things laid out and very systematically try to do it because, yeah, when we go back, I'm not going to be doing a whole lot of nursing. It's going to pretty much main focus be different house renovations, squirrel, different house renovations and obviously trying to move into that space.
Starting point is 00:30:13 I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the psychology podcast. Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about exploring human potential. I was going to schools to try to teach kids these skills and I get eye rolling from teachers or I get students who would be like it's easier to punch someone in the face. When you think about emotion regulation, like you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome as a result of it if it's going to be beneficial to you. Because it's easy to say like go you go blank yourself, right? It's easy. It's easy to just drink the extra beer. It's easy to ignore to suppress seeing a colleague who's bothered.
Starting point is 00:30:51 you and just like walk the other way avoidance is easier ignoring is easier denials is easier drinking is easier yelling screaming is easy complex problem solving meditating you know takes effort listen to the psychology podcast on the iHeart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts so in the last month the Midas Touch network beat rogan Tucker carlson Candice Owens, Charlie Kirk, and Ben Shapiro all combined. Conservative podcasts can have a major political impact, but the Myceles Brothers, three siblings with a serious media strategy, are building an alternative to that.
Starting point is 00:31:33 On the latest episode of Next Question with Katie Couric, I sat down with the brothers behind the Midas Touch Network to talk about how they built a progressive media powerhouse from the ground up, why audience interaction is the key to political influence, and what it takes to fight disinformation at scale, one download at a time. We should be focusing on the issues that actually occupy a lot of the mental space in Americans' minds but are filled with conspiracies, and we should fill it with the truth and solutions. Listen to next question with me, Katie Couric on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:32:09 or wherever you get your podcasts. The U.S. Open is here, and on my podcast, Good Game with Sarah Spain, I'm breaking down the players from rising stars to legends chasing history, the predictions, well, we see a first-time winner, and the pressure. Billy Jean King says pressure is a privilege, you know. Plus, the stories and events off the court, and of course the honey deuses, the signature cocktail of the U.S. Open. The U.S. Open has gotten to be a very fancy, wonderfully experiential sporting event.
Starting point is 00:32:40 I mean, listen, the whole aim is to be accessible and inclusive for all tennis fans, whether you play tennis or not. Tennis is full of compelling stories of late. Have you heard about Icon Venus Williams' recent wildcard bids? Or the young Canadian, Victoria Mboko, making a name for herself. How about Naomi Osaka getting back to form? To hear this and more, listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain, an IHeart Women's Sports production in partnership with Deep Blue Sports and Entertainment
Starting point is 00:33:05 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. I feel like Abigail's going to go grocery shopping and come home and no was just going to have like ripped out all the dry wall like walls knocked down like floorboards ripped up like in every room and she's like what's going on you're like oh hey like just starting the rent house well realistically like timeline what do you think because I'm I'm just curious like how long do you think you're going to be able to get this done in the house yeah um work wise I think we could finish it and a few a month is more we have no pieces of furniture to our name we have no like silverware towels
Starting point is 00:33:51 nothing so we're just like starting from square one so I think just like nice actually yeah yeah it'll be definitely very much our home but um I think we're gonna move in right away when we get to Oklahoma we're not doing any super major rental stuff but in terms of like being finally done it feeling like a home I'm hoping a year I don't know for it to be Joe ready I want to Joe Redd. Yeah, like guest room set up is what we're reading about. I think six months of dedication. But I think the first three months we'll have it, I mean, to good standards.
Starting point is 00:34:27 And then it's just like finishing touches. You're always adding stuff. Are you any like outside contractors or are you just like, I'm Abigail, I'm Noah. We could do this ourselves. Dude, I was like a squirrel, I guess. I did grow up doing it. And the whole life, I hated it. Now it's like, I actually.
Starting point is 00:34:45 do know what I'm doing, and I've done it a few times already. So I'll do it a lot, but also my family's from there. We're like Yellowstone out there. Oh, my God. Don't compare yourself to Yellowstone right now. I mean, I would love to, I would love to come. That's what one of the places I've never been to in the United States is I've never been to Oklahoma.
Starting point is 00:35:05 Yeah, you and everybody else. Do you think you'll get married in Oklahoma or do you not know? I think we're leaning towards it because I also think it would be really fun because not a lot of our friends like you guys have never been to Oklahoma. So I feel like when we talk about Oklahoma, I think a lot of people think like we're running in a wagon or we're living on a farm or whatnot. So I think it would be really fun to celebrate in Oklahoma because that's where we're laying down routes, but then also get all our friends there and kind of have them see what our life is like, maybe convince some people to move to Oklahoma, but kind of just being a picture.
Starting point is 00:35:45 This is our life. Do you want to move to Oklahoma? No, I'm good. Investment property, buddy. We'll join us. Yeah. We'll get a neighbor. Yes, would consider an investment property out there.
Starting point is 00:35:55 No, it is a great place. It's the people are super nice, chill. It's a great place to settle down. And if you wanted to have a family, like your money goes a lot further there. Oh, yeah. And so you can get bougie lifestyle actually for pretty cheap. You can be comfortable or you can get some land if you want and, you know, do all that. A few reasons I say automatic no is really just one because we've never been there.
Starting point is 00:36:18 So like I would be like, I don't know what to expect. I never thought I was going to move to Oklahoma. It's very Canadian. And two, we are at the time in our lives we are right now, we are very much city people. Whereas like the same way you could never envision yourself living in New York, Noah. Like I don't know if I could ever envision myself living somewhere that was not near a major city. But who knows? Who knows? It's different.
Starting point is 00:36:41 Noah's like a squirrel. I'm like a chameleon. I feel like I can. Well, listen, it's like a different kind of grind and lifestyle. Joe likes to go try out his different drinks and foods and take little thirst traps and stuff like that around the city. Honestly, don't stop. They're getting better. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:36:59 Thank you. It's just different. It's just that's not really what we want right now. But it's fun and it's cool. But I'm, I don't know. I'm not on the moon. Are you guys going to settle down? Yeah, I just want to settle down in a different way.
Starting point is 00:37:12 Will you miss San Diego? Yeah. Dude, look at my hair. Oh, my God. When are you going to cut it? When are you going to cut your hair? I was going to cut it.
Starting point is 00:37:22 I was going to surprise Abby and have it cut for the proposal. Yeah. Just make her black out. Yeah. That obviously didn't happen. Tell me what he's doing with it. Dude. After looking at some older photos,
Starting point is 00:37:34 like that transition phase from like the shorter to longer hair, I was like, okay, maybe let's just keep it the longer. I was going to get it cut. I had it set up and everything and I got like three compliments in the same day because I was wearing this certain kind of bun I guess and I was like I can't I can't do it so I'm sure like the people like Noah with the long hair you got to give the people what they want I yeah I mean you know what Abigail I'm convinced though you're just like used to it and also like you have spent so much time with him now with a long hair it looks good I will never I will not pipe down he likes how it looks okay just leave it at that let's try to convince her that she doesn't like it I'm not saying she doesn't like it I'm just saying like
Starting point is 00:38:20 I feel like you've had it for so long and she spent so much time with you in love with the long hair like she just she's attached to it but I'm not saying you don't look good I'm just saying like I think she's just like grown to love this long hair listen I'm a realistic man I know it's overdue
Starting point is 00:38:37 it's been overdue for a while okay I just haven't got around to it very similar hair though like we actually have like the same color you know what's crazy is your dog yeah i was just going to say that i was like you look like maki i just aren't athletic Abigail do you have a strong opinion on um if noah like do you want traditional tuxedo or you're going to let noah do his own thing fashion flare no what does do my own thing mean well it's going to be naked it's whatever are you a traditional tuxedo guy
Starting point is 00:39:11 When you guys get married, do you see yourself wearing a traditional talks? So I think we're too casual for like a really formal wedding. I just don't think that's like us. But he definitely needs to talk to me about what he's going to be wearing. I'll be clean. We're not going to do like something way out there. I wanted to be simple. Classy elegance.
Starting point is 00:39:36 Yeah. Nothing's the elegance. You're not going to see me in a bow tie. No, I'm okay. See, I want to be simple. wanted to wear so I've kind of done my own thing with what I'm wearing no say and what he's for the wedding but Serena was really strongly against me wearing a white bow tie and I really
Starting point is 00:39:54 wanted to wear what's your color though what's your what are the rest of the colors well for the for the actual wedding it's only a white bow tie and nothing else that's it's really yeah that's all I that's really all I wanted to do yeah but you're I mean you look good in a bow tie kind of it's it's me, Joe, you know, like Italian, like you look. That was a terrible, terrible impression. But yeah, like I want to go. I really want to go that traditional like James Bond, black talks. He's wearing a black tucks with a black bow tie and he tried to switch to a white bow tie.
Starting point is 00:40:25 And I was just like, yeah, that was a white bow tie, huh? That looked goofy. That was the only thing I took a hard stance on. That black is just so sleek, especially on you. You have black hair. Just do the whole thing. Thank you. How about kids?
Starting point is 00:40:41 Should you announce it? Are you pregnant? No. That'd be great. That'd be great if you actually could give us a decision right now. I don't want to have kids. I think, I mean, we've talked about it. I don't want to have kids until later.
Starting point is 00:40:55 Like, I don't know, I'm 28. Early 30s. I may have, no, I'm saying, have you talked about how many kids you want? So I always say I want to see how the first childbirth goes. Like, that's the part that scares me the most. Like, if I have a really traumatic childbirth, we'll talk again after that. But I think right now we're thinking between two and four, and you would love twins. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:17 I come from 11 kids. So I think nothing short of like 15. Continue the tradition. No, I think, yeah, five is a max. I would love twins and like, you know, a little princess daughter. But don't twins usually skip a generation? So you're not, wouldn't it be your kids that are likely to have twins? Because you're a twin, Noah?
Starting point is 00:41:38 Okay, Miss Science. I'm just trying to manage your expectations here. But we, like my mom's brothers are twins and she still had twins, but she also had 11 kids. There's a lot of twins in her family line. And by the time we have kids, we'll probably just be able to click like a couple buttons and I have twins. So I won't be mad if I don't have twins. That's just that would be nice. My dad is a, my dad's a triplet and has twin sisters.
Starting point is 00:42:06 So, yeah. There's a good chance. Good chance we're getting twins. Okay, well, this was lovely catching up. We're going to let you guys go because we've taken up a lot of your time and you have to drive 24 hours to Tulsa. 22 hours, pack, do your whole thing.
Starting point is 00:42:24 Abigail, I really do. I wish you the best. Good luck on that drive. But no, guys, honestly, we're so happy for you. We can't wait to see you at our wedding. Yeah, you can take notes on everything that you love and everything you despise at our wedding. Oh, trust me.
Starting point is 00:42:41 Won't be hard watching Joe. At least try to hide the notepad, Noah. No, we love you guys, excited for the wedding. We're hoping, you know, we go make Tulsa home base and then, you know, if we want to come out to California for a month or Chicago for a couple weeks, we can, or New York. I'm saying we can travel around. We're just going to go make a home base and then kind of also travel around and have fun.
Starting point is 00:43:05 Nice. Well, yeah, you got Mocky, but no kids, so you can do that. And that's, I feel like, the fun of it all. And it's going to be, I'm excited to see all the Renaos, the new Chip and Joanna Gain of Bachelor Nation come to life. I'm excited too. And I'm excited for however many other dogs, Abbegates. Yeah, and you probably won't know in advance. Didn't you decide, like, that day you went and got started out again?
Starting point is 00:43:27 Oh, yeah. Map filled. We're getting a dollar. Less than 24 hours later. Whoops. Wow, you have had a big few weeks. You got a house. you got a dog yeah you got engaged and now you're moving that's crazy if you guys want to do something
Starting point is 00:43:43 if you guys want to do something for i keep saying this i really want to do something for new years i want to go somewhere i know we're going to go to japan with them maybe oh are we let's talk okay we'll talk off off i mean the the Mexico trip i'm not going to lie i thought you'd be better I thought you'd be more fun. I thought you'd be... I feel the same way about you. I'm willing to get another shot. At least your fiancé is cool.
Starting point is 00:44:12 I actually thought we had a great time, Noah. It comes with the territory. Well, that's awkward. We'll let you guys figure out. You know what, this podcast is done. You know, it's been on a high note. Let's end it now. All right.
Starting point is 00:44:23 Noah and Abigail, thank you so much. Into our listeners. We love you guys. Thank you for listening to these exclusive interviews and episodes. I hope you guys really like them. Yeah, Noah and Abelgill, thanks again. And listeners, we will see you soon. Be sure to tune in next week for our Mentel All Recap.

On the latest episode of next question with me, Katie Couric, I sat down with Jasmine Crockett, Democratic representative of Texas. She's holding out the fork for her party in one of the most conservative states in the union. I think that ultimately, who will become the Democratic nominee for president will be someone that has been out there and has shown that they won't allow themselves to be punched and just say thank you. Like, they will punch back.
