Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the psychology podcast. Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about how to be a better you. When you think about emotion regulation, you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome. Avoidance is easier. Ignoring is easier. Denials easier.
Starting point is 00:00:25 Complex problem solving takes effort. Listen to the psychology podcast on the. iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On the latest episode of Next Question with me, Katie Couric, I sat down with Jasmine Crockett, Democratic Representative of Texas. She's holding out the fork for her party in one of the most conservative states in the Union. I think that ultimately, who will become the Democratic nominee for president will be someone
Starting point is 00:00:52 that has been out there and has shown that they won't allow themselves to be punched and just say thank you. Like, they will punch back. Listen to next question with me, Katie Couric on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I just normally do straight stand up, but this is a bit different.
Starting point is 00:01:12 What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? Answer, a new podcast called Wisecrack, where a comedian finds himself at the center of a chilling true crime story. Does anyone know what show they've come to see? It's a story. It's about
Starting point is 00:01:28 the scariest night of my life. This is Wisecrack, available now. Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, everyone. Welcome back to Bachelor Happy Hour. I'm Joe. And I'm Serena. We are doing our, I think this is going to be our last catch up with the cast of Bachelor in Paradise.
Starting point is 00:01:52 And we have two women on the show today, Greer and Kat. Hi, guys. Welcome. Hi. Thank you for coming on. We'll let's, Kat, you did clickbait before, correct? Yes. Yes. Okay.
Starting point is 00:02:07 So we're not going to start with you. We'll start with Greer because I haven't had her on a podcast yet. Greer, what's new? What's new? Since the season, since the season. Since the season. Since you were born. Let's go all the way back.
Starting point is 00:02:24 Since we last saw you on TV. What's new? Yeah, yeah. So since then, I do not work medical device sales anymore. I started my own marketing agency. And I went home to Texas for about nine months just to connect with family after that experience. I just wanted to be around people who mattered a lot to me and had my best interest. And I finally moved back to New York this summer, actually.
Starting point is 00:02:56 So, yeah, now I'm planning to room with a couple girls from Zach's season. No way. Oh, my gosh. I didn't know you were in New York. I don't know why I thought you were in Chicago, probably because I always see you on Britney Galvin's Instagram. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:12 So Brittany and I became pretty fast friends. She actually, our friendship is cute how it started. She actually slid in my DM earlier this year and told me that she liked my outfits on the show. and we've been friends ever since and we've been back and forth visiting each other constantly. Oh my gosh, I love that. Wait, plug your marketing agency.
Starting point is 00:03:35 What's it called? It's called now, not later. Now not later. Okay, amazing. And what girls from Zach season are you moving in with? Davia Bunch. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Yeah. She's one that has beautiful white dress and trends and flirted a little bit on her date party with the girls. Oh no, I remember Davia. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So we're going to be moving in together later this year. So I'm really excited. That's great. Do you know what? Obviously, you don't have to get too specific about where your home is, but do you know, like, you don't want the address and
Starting point is 00:04:13 Yeah, no. Don't give us the address or the zip code. I can send you a key. What area of New York are you moving into? Lower East Side. Nice. Okay, fun. Joe was there last night. I was. I was. Oh. And yeah. Yeah. It's like a 25-minute drive to where we're at. So, yeah, I wasn't, I wasn't too happy. And then, Kat, you live in New York, right? Are you still living in New York? Yeah, we live on the same street, remember? Okay. Oh, my gosh, do we? I'm learning so much about this podcast.
Starting point is 00:04:45 And what is new with you since Zach's season? Um, not much. Just been living it up in New York. And what, oh, we'll start with you, Kat. What made you decide, were you happy? Were you expecting the call to go to Paradise? I turned it down the first call. Really? And then, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:09 I, I don't know. I just wasn't, I didn't think I was in like a good enough place to go to Paradise. Okay. And yeah, like I wasn't too sure about it. But after, like, thinking about it and I'm really glad that I went. So then it was, like, two weeks before, I decided, like, actually, I do want to go through this. What was it that changed your mind? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:05:40 I just, like, it was summertime. It was getting warm out. Free vacation to go party. The timing just seemed right. Easy enough. As we got closer, I feel like like coming, when you're coming off of The Bachelor, it's like as you get a little bit further away from that experience, like the season ends, you kind of go like, okay, like I feel like I could do this again. Whereas like when it's right after sometimes it's hard, you're like so much. Yeah, exactly. It was literally like right after women tell all. And I was like, I don't think I ever want to go on the reality show like ever again for the rest of my life. And even after in clickbait. I was like, yeah, I'm done with reality TV. And then, I don't know, the time got closer and I was like, that could be really fun. Yeah. And it was. And then Greer, how about you?
Starting point is 00:06:33 Were you expecting the call? I was not expecting the call. And when the call did happen, I was so excited because I believe in the process so much. And I kept hearing how much fun paradise is and people like you two met on the beach. And I don't know, being able to see something actually work and it's actually successful for certain people. I like the idea of having that for myself too. So I was so excited. And then so you've been hanging out with Britney a lot. We know Brittany was on the last season of Paradise. Did she give you any tips or tricks or did you get any advice from past cast members? Um, you know, the best advice I got was to not take it too seriously because when you when you are just at your best having having fun
Starting point is 00:07:26 and putting yourself out there that's when things really happened so that was the best advice I got going into it that's good advice yeah I think that's that's that's sound advice cat were you before were you dating anyone in this in between time a little bit here and there yeah yeah do you find it easier do you find it easier after do you go on a dating show like The Bachelor? I usually use like Hinge. I don't know how you say it.
Starting point is 00:07:59 That's exactly how you say it. That's the correct translation. I meet people like at bars and stuff. But usually so since I have like my Instagram in my hinge, usually it's like a dead giveaway because then someone goes to my Instagram. They're like, oh, like you're wearing on The Bachelor. And it's kind of makes it easier because it like automatically gives you to some gives you something to talk about. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:25 And yeah. Were there any guys from Bachelor Nation that you were hoping to see day one? Yeah, there were a few for sure. I didn't know any of the guys. Well, obviously charity season, none of us knew any of the guys from charity season except based on pictures. Yeah. And I was, like, very pleasantly surprised with all of the guys that I didn't recognize that came from charity season. So, Kat, let's take away, we everyone knows who the original cast is, but including that original cast are people that may not even be on it.
Starting point is 00:09:03 If they show up, we don't know. But who are you hoping to see? I was hoping to see Meatball. Okay. Interesting. I could see that. I kind of forgot about Meatball, but we were. big fans. How could you forget? I know. How could we? He dumped a whole jar of pasta sauce on his bod.
Starting point is 00:09:22 I know. And why? Why were you hoping to see him? Just attracted to him or his personality? Yeah. You say Gabba Gall and he says me false. Yeah. I mean, I watched Gabby and Rachel's season. So I got to know his personality from there. And literally, during night one of
Starting point is 00:09:45 Zach Sees and airing, like, everyone was tagging me on social media, like, literally making, like, compilation videos of Meatball and Me. And it, like, God is just, like, talking on Instagram a little bit and, yeah. Okay, so you guys talked a little bit before here. Just a little bit. A little DM action. We were kind of, like, DM, like, funny videos or people said, like, funny comments. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:10 That's fair. You're just, like, bonding over the fact that it was like, hey, everyone's tagging us in both of this stuff. Yeah. Was there ever any, like, potential, like, hey, we should, we should get together in the real world kind of thing? Um, I did tell him if he ever came to New York, we should go to the meatball shop. Yeah. Because that's a really good restaurant on the every side. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:33 There's one in Hell's Kitchen right by us, too. Oh, is there? Yeah. But it was nothing anything like serious, like, oh, you should come to New York these days and, like, say my apartment. Like, nothing like that. But, like, yeah, yeah. And then Greer, how much? about you? Have you been dating anyone? And same question. Who are you most excited to see?
Starting point is 00:10:51 I actually did date someone very seriously after. Oh, really? I did. Yeah, it was very quick, passionate love affair. We fell in love. And how long would give us a time span here? Yeah. So this was like a time span within three months. It just, I think it was after, it was a little bit after I came back from the show and I feel like I was in this headspace
Starting point is 00:11:24 where I was really ready to settle down and I really knew what I wanted and what I, that I wanted to be with someone because I was in that head space for so long on the show and I met this guy who at first I actually I confronted him.
Starting point is 00:11:40 I stopped him at the bar and I gave him my number and I said, text me. I'm leaving. And he texted me and we ended up seeing each other and falling pretty hard for those three months. But actually, unfortunately, we parted ways and we're really good friends still. And I have a lot of respect and love for him. Wow. Wow. You had a whirlwind of three months. Oh my gosh. You think you're coming home from the Bachelor. You're like, I'm just going to have some quiet. time in Texas. Nope. That wasn't a store for you. Nope. Nope. Nope. So yeah, a lot of big changes. Just also like starting my own business and having that autonomy and having to figure out
Starting point is 00:12:23 how to get things done by myself and not have to worry about or think about someone else telling me what to do, just getting up every morning and having that responsibility and discipline. And then also watching myself on television for the first time and noticing that I make a look and laugh a weird way and not knowing that I do it that way. but yeah don't be so hard on yourself that that's one thing we all watch ourselves back and we we pick ourselves apart but try not to do that yeah yeah it's so easy hi it's jemisbeg host of the psychology of your 20s remember when you used to have science week at school well if you loved that how would you feel about a full psychology month
Starting point is 00:13:10 This September at The Psychology of Your 20s, we're breaking down the interesting ways psychology applies to real life, like how our pets actually change our brain chemistry, the psychology of office politics, whether happiness is even a real emotion, and my favorite episode, why do we all secretly crave external validation? It's so interesting to me that we are so quick to believe others' judgments of us and not our own. I found a study that said not being liked actually creates similar levels of pain as physical pain. Like, no wonder we care so much. So the secret is, if you want to be okay with not being liked, you have to know why your brain craves it in the first place. Learn more about the psychology of external validation, everyday life, and of course, your 20s, this September. Listen to the psychology of your 20s on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. So in the last month, the Midas Touch Network beat Rogan, Tucker Carlson, Candice Owens, Charlie Kirk, and Ben Shapiro all combined.
Starting point is 00:14:16 Conservative podcasts can have a major political impact, but the Myceles Brothers, three siblings with a serious media strategy, are building an alternative to that. On the latest episode of Next Question with Katie Couric, I sat down with the brothers behind the Midas Touch Network to talk about how they build. built a progressive media powerhouse from the ground up, why audience interaction is the key to political influence and what it takes to fight disinformation at scale, one download at a time. We should be focusing on the issues and actually occupy a lot of the mental space in Americans' minds
Starting point is 00:14:53 but are filled with conspiracies, and we should fill it with the truth and solutions. Listen to next question with me, Katie Couric on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. How serious is youth vaping? Irreversible lung damage serious. One in ten kids vape serious,
Starting point is 00:15:13 which warrants a serious conversation from a serious parental figure, like yourself. Not the seriously know-at-all sports dad or the seriously smart podcaster. It requires a serious conversation that is best had by you. No, seriously. The best person to talk to your child about vaping is you.
Starting point is 00:15:30 To start the conversation, visit Talk About Vaping. brought to you by the American Lung Association and the Ad Council. Yeah, it was an interesting year. So, yeah, fell in love, watched myself on television, started a business. And, yeah, I was, there was a few people I was excited about for the beach. Wait, but wait, wait, before you get into that, were you hesitant at all to go on Paradise?
Starting point is 00:15:59 Did you feel you were ready? Yeah, I've 100%. felt I was ready because that paradise we didn't start to later in the summer my relationship ended about four months prior and I had that time and also I had this mentality that it had nothing to do with me personally and I just had so much respect and love for this person and I just wanted the best for them and they wanted the best for me and it was very easy to move forward from that relationship.
Starting point is 00:16:35 Yeah, that makes sense. Yeah. And then, yeah, who are you? Who are you hoping to see down there? Say it. I really want to see Joey. Yeah. Joey.
Starting point is 00:16:52 Unfortunately, yeah. I have some bad news for you, Greer. He's not there. I know. I know. You know what? I saw his potential since the headshot. came out and I told my friends I said that guy he's so cute and I just I waited I waited I said
Starting point is 00:17:09 you know what let me just wait this out and obviously I waited a little too long yeah just yeah just a little you could have been waiting forever and I'll think he ever would come down there I will still be waiting yeah you would still be waiting cat was there anyone that you were hoping not to see down there. Did you have any beef or anything on your season with anyone? Not really. I wasn't there long enough
Starting point is 00:17:38 to like experience the beef. When did you go home? Week two. Week two? Okay. Yeah. Did you really? Wow. You really made an impact on my mind for someone that went to. I know. Everyone's mine. That's good.
Starting point is 00:17:54 That's a good thing. But. go ahead no yeah not really no and um any actually there were guys that i was not hoping to see who are those two guys that are like the like meathead guys i can't remember james aaron and james yes oh my god i had no idea if those guys are at the beach like but really A hard stance Against Aaron and James What has brought on these feelings
Starting point is 00:18:30 I just They go every year Yeah Well I think they went back to back Yeah James has also been twice But they both have girlfriends now So can confirm they weren't going
Starting point is 00:18:45 Happy family Gras Greer how about you Anyone that you were hoping That wasn't there Or that you weren't going to see No majority of my problems were internal yeah yeah I didn't have any uh beef or any bad blood with anyone
Starting point is 00:19:06 specifically I honestly my time only got hard when I was hard on myself yeah so just your own mental anxiety you hope got left at home didn't make it exactly yeah that's how I prepped I I made sure I left it behind me and how did that go um it's going unwell okay Did you guys do anything else to like prep mentally, physically packing? Like what was your whole bachelor and parent's prep looking like? You're actually going to die when I tell you this. But so I started off really strong. I was doing the Chloe Ting 10 minute ab challenge.
Starting point is 00:19:46 Oh my gosh. I was doing it. And I was doing it all like a yoga mat in my backyard. Like I was prepping. And randomly one night, I had to get my appendix removed. Oh, my gosh. Wow.
Starting point is 00:20:00 So there goes your ab work at routine. Yeah, that goes out the door. Bye, Chloe Tang. I lost weight in the way that I wasn't planning to lose weight. I just like lost, you know, part of my organ. Yeah, just removed the appendix. That'll do the job. Such a random night last night.
Starting point is 00:20:19 I had to get my appendix removed. So random. I was texting my pre-pendix. And I said, hey, low-key going into surgery. Just wanted to let you know. She was like, what's low-key about this? Yeah. There's nothing low-key about you going into surgery.
Starting point is 00:20:36 I actually got the call that I was officially going on the show when I had was on morphine, like at the hospital. Oh, my gosh. That's so funny. So that was your prep. Kat, what did you do? I'm not kidding. This entire apartment was a disaster. I had all my, I have a big, like, beanbag chair right here.
Starting point is 00:20:58 I had my clothes, like, piled up to here with all my, I brought like, freaking like 40 bathing suits that I borrowed from friends and stuff. Like, it was mostly just packing. That was my prep because it was, I signed the thing like two weeks before. And then I was still, like, working. And so literally when I wasn't there, I was here packing. And I work there, like, all the time. That's, the packing, people don't realize how long it takes, at least for me.
Starting point is 00:21:32 Like, because you have to, like, there's just so much that goes into it, at least, well, for me, Joe, I think probably packed in, like, an hour. Yeah. I just try everything on before, like, make sure everything looks good. Yeah, that makes sense. I mean, I get it. Okay, so let's go to day one up in that tree house. you're walking down those steps Greer what is going through your mind
Starting point is 00:21:58 oh my nothing I blacked out I just hope that I wasn't going to fall on my face because I got so steep they're so steep and I got to the sand you know when you're driving sometimes this is actually bad you know when you're driving sometimes and you get to your destination
Starting point is 00:22:16 you're like how did I get there? Yes that's how I felt walking down steps I just all of a sudden hit the sand. I was like, wait, oh my God, how did I come down here? That's such a normal feeling. I felt the same thing, and I've been there twice. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:33 Was there, okay, so without telling us too much, was there any guy down there that you were like, oh, he's interested? This could be something. Honestly, I felt that way about, it's Aaron Schwartzman I am Jewish and so when I found out that he's Jewish I immediately
Starting point is 00:22:59 thought to myself we have to start planning our Shabbat dinners this is stuff and JV Aaron asked the firefighter oh the firefighter yeah he was he was really sweet
Starting point is 00:23:12 and it's just really easy to talk to someone who comes from like cut from similar cloth and has that background and I actually never dated a Jewish guy and so that really intrigued me. Wow.
Starting point is 00:23:25 You got to come to New York. I'm here. They just don't want to date me. Kat, how about you? What was going on in the head of years when you're walking down? I don't even like to think about it because it makes me so I get all the feelings again. I am not kidding. I've never been so nervous in my entire life.
Starting point is 00:23:47 It was when I was at AFR and met Zach, like one of the five. girls that met Zach, that and walking down the stairs for paradise, or that I've never been more nervous in my entire life is terrifying. Greer, were you more nervous for Bachelor or Bachelor in Paradise? I think Bachelor in Paradise. Oh, where's that a question for me? Either either either either one. Sorry, I don't mean to interrupt you, Kat.
Starting point is 00:24:12 I was so good. I was way more nervous for Bachelor of Paradise because when I got to Zach, season. I thought I was going home night one. Okay. Why? I just had no expectations of the experience at all. I just, I showed up. The first person I saw was charity and my jaw just hit the floor. I immediately thought, oh my God, these girls. You did the coffee cup intro, right? That was your entrance. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that was cute.
Starting point is 00:24:45 That was cute. Nice. Yeah. So I was most nervous the exact season. Oh no not in Zach season. Most nervous on Bachelor in Paradise because I kind of knew what I was getting into and I had expectations because I've been through such a similar process. And also there's so much
Starting point is 00:25:04 success in Bachelor and Paradise will at the time more recently more than the Bachelor more than the Bachelorette. So I think I put a lot of emphasis on the experience. That makes sense. I kind of relate to that going into Bachelor
Starting point is 00:25:19 or being like, honestly, who even knows what's going to happen here? I don't even know what I'm walking into. Like, you have kind of like, you're just like, whatever happens happens. Whereas like, then once you experience that and then you're going to paradise, you're like, ooh, like maybe it'll really work this time. Right. Like, it's my turn now. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:36 Yeah. And I think it's really funny because the job that I had before I went on the show, I told them, I said, I'll see you guys Monday. Like, I'll be back. No one. And then I was gone for weeks. And I came back and they said to me like, yeah, you don't work here anymore. I said, you're enough.
Starting point is 00:25:56 You're like, that's fair. I guess I miss like weeks of work I told you I'd be here for. Right. I said, that makes sense. Yeah. I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the psychology podcast. Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about exploring human potential. I was going to schools to try to teach kids these skills.
Starting point is 00:26:17 And I get eye rolling from. teachers or I get students who would be like, it's easier to punch someone in the face. When you think about emotion regulation, like, you're not going to choose an adapted strategy which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome as a result of it, if it's going to be beneficial to you. Because it's easy to say like, like go you, go blank yourself, right? It's easy. It's easy to just drink the extra beer. It's easy to ignore, to suppress, seeing a colleague who's bothering you and just like walk the other way. Avoidance is easier. Ignoring is easier. Denial is easier. Drinking is easier. Yelling, screaming is easy. Complex problem solving,
Starting point is 00:26:56 meditating, you know, takes effort. Listen to the psychology podcast on the IHartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. So in the last month, the Midas Touch Network beat Rogan, Tucker Carlson, Candice Owens, Charlie Kirk, and Ben Shapiro all combined. Conservative podcasts can have a major political impact. Don't let biased algorithms or degree screens or exclusive professional networks or stereotypes. Don't let anything keep you from discovering the half of the workforce who are stars. Workers skilled through alternative routes rather than a bachelor's degree. It's time to tear the paper ceiling and see the stars beyond it. Find out how you can make stars part of your talent strategy at tear the paper sealing.org. Brought to you by opportunity at work in the ad council. Kat, how do you think you handled those first few hours on the beach?
Starting point is 00:28:42 I think I handled that. the best that I could. I handled them the way that you would expect. I don't know what happens with either of you. I'm not going to lie. I don't know if I'm going to leave this interview like I have no idea how this how this plays out. It was a lot of fun. Like, okay, I had the opposite that like you guys were saying where like when I went on The Bachelor, I was like, I'm going to win this whole damn thing like whatever. And then it got sent home. And so when I went to Paradise, I kind of had the.
Starting point is 00:29:15 mentality like well I could get sent home at any time and like this might not work out so I'm just going to have fun and like live in the moment enjoy the experience like not take it too seriously and was there a guy was there a guy on the beach that you were like I could see something oh yeah it was like hot guy after hot guy coming down the stairs and I was like I could see us with everyone there's a connection there the next one Okay, I have a question for you guys And I think we could probably get into our rapid fire game Yeah, let's do it
Starting point is 00:29:51 Okay, so Greer, you can go first and then Kat, you can go after So why don't you tell me what you were most excited for going into Paradise And then what you were most nervous for So Greer, if you want to start Yeah, I was most excited to potentially meet my person That's what got me there That's what I was so excited about. And I guess the scariest part of that experience, not finding that person, having to go home and not have a successful experience in paradise.
Starting point is 00:30:25 Kat, what about you? Yeah, I was most excited to, like, have fun. Like, I'd been working a lot. And so I was excited to take literally a vacation, even if I was only going to be there for a week. That's honest. That's fair. What were you nervous for? I was most nervous for.
Starting point is 00:30:46 This is going to sound so silly, but like the girls. Like I, because I knew all the girls from my season, but I didn't know girls from prior seasons. And so I was really nervous, like, because I knew how the girls were on my season and, like, how we, like, communicate with each other and, like, handle things. I was nervous, like, what if there's a girl from, like,
Starting point is 00:31:10 I don't know, like, Clayton season. who like is really confrontational and you know like to start drama and stuff so I would that was what I was most nervous for not that's not that's not silly that's not silly at all that totally makes sense because it's like an element of like an unknown you're like yeah and we didn't have any like mean girls on our season really probably should have asked this before you both got um asked to be on this podcast together but do two get along yeah I think so do it good yeah do you imagine they're like no We hate each other, actually. Yeah, I'm back. Do you want to hang out?
Starting point is 00:31:46 Oh, my God. Yeah. Come to the flying cock. Yeah. I worked all the time. The flying car. Is that your bar? The flying cock. I actually think. Oh, we've been there. Wait.
