If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your... free IHeart Radio app, search emergency intercom, and listen now. Hi, it's Honey German, and I'm back with season two of my podcast. Grazias, come again. We got you when it
Starting point is 00:00:40 comes to the latest in music and entertainment with interviews with some of your favorite Latin artists and celebrities. You didn't have to audition? No, I didn't audition. I haven't auditioned in like over 25 years. Oh, wow. That's a real G-talk right there. Oh, yeah. We'll talk about all that's viral
Starting point is 00:00:55 and trending, with a little bit of chisement and a whole lot of laughs. And of course, the great bevidas you've come to expect. Listen to the new season of Dasis Come Again on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Every case that is a cold case that has DNA. Right now in a backlog will be identified in our lifetime.
Starting point is 00:01:18 On the new podcast, America's Crime Lab, every case has a story to tell. And the DNA holds the truth. He never thought he was going to get caught. And I just looked at my computer screen. And I was just like, ah, gotcha. This technology is already solving so many cases. Listen to America's Crime Lab on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Hey, everyone. Welcome back to Bachelor Happy Hour. I'm Joe. And I'm Serena. And we are back with another round of his story. And we have this week, we are going to have Kim and Jack on. And currently right now, we have Kim here. So Kim, welcome to Bachelor Happy Hour.
Starting point is 00:01:59 The mansion man himself. So, Kim, do people come up to you on the street singing the mansion men? They haven't sung it to me yet, but they have mentioned it when they've approached me. And so it's nice to be acknowledged for having offered that to the Bachelor Nation folks. It's become like the anthem of your season, like the theme song. And it was really impressive when you and Guy sung it to Joan in the episode. But then how did it feel seeing at the men tell all the big performance? Oh, that was such a shock to see the gay men's chorus from L.A. come out and form ranks like a military group and sing that song, the entire song.
Starting point is 00:02:50 And they did it so well. I was I was more than surprised. It was a shock, a very pleasant shock. Have you always written songs? Is that something that you'd like to do? No, I'm not, I'm not a songwriter. I kind of like poetry and I tend to be creative anyway, but I'm not musical. I'm not musically talented, although I can whistle really well, but didn't have a chance to display that on the show.
Starting point is 00:03:20 but I'm not really musical. I do write poetry once in a while, and then I try to find a little tune that fits the words. And once I get the tune, then I'm trying to fit more words to the tune. Anyway, it worked out really well. I was just, I'm glad it worked out as well as it did. It was just intended to be a little fun thing,
Starting point is 00:03:40 a way to pass the time, something to do in the mansion, and got all those hours there with not a lot to do when you don't have a date, a date with Joan. And so I filled the time with just amusing myself and I wanted to showcase the experience of the guys in the mansion. Because I don't think that gets told all that well.
Starting point is 00:04:04 I feel like you can't say that you're not musical anymore, though, because you really did write an entire song that was performed by a choir essentially. Millions of people know that song. Yeah. You have a hit. Well, your first, I have a hit. The show has a hit. The show owns the song.
Starting point is 00:04:22 I wonder if the men that didn't want to perform it with you in the mansion are regretting it now. I don't think they're regretting it, but it was nice to see them join in at the men tell all. And they all, I mean, they were high-fiving me. They were really happy for me. And I think they were really happy that the, you know, the song got some extreme publicity. And it's their story. It is their story. It's the story of all of us that got to live in the mansion for a few days or weeks.
Starting point is 00:04:52 You are a retired Navy captain. That's correct. And how long? A retired Navy captain. How long did you do that for? I was on active duty for 27 and a half years. Wow. What was your favorite part about that job?
Starting point is 00:05:08 Oh, gosh. I had a lot of favorite parts. What mattered most to me, I mean, I had a couple of great jobs, and when you're captain of a destroyer, it doesn't get any better than that in terms of your career to captain a ship, much like John Paul Jones did 250 years ago. It's the same. It's very much the same. But what I got the most satisfaction out of as a fairly senior leader when I was in a position of authority was having the opportunity to influence the careers of younger folks of the people coming. up. And never underestimate the impact of what you say or do when you're a senior leader and how that affects younger people. And my definition of leadership is facilitating the success
Starting point is 00:06:00 of those you lead. And that's what I'm most proud of having done in my Navy career is I grew a lot of really great leaders for our Navy and our nation. I felt good about that. Do you miss it? I don't miss being in the Navy. I do miss, and maybe it came across on the show occasionally, too. I do miss some of the discipline and organization and the, you know, how quickly people respond to you when you're in a position of authority and you give an order and things just happen. And so I miss that, but I don't miss the Navy. The Navy was part of my life.
Starting point is 00:06:42 It ended that, you know, my Navy time ended 21 years ago now. I've been retired for 21 years. And I'm about looking, you know, looking forward, looking ahead, not looking back. I have great memories and great shipmates that I served with that I'm still real good friends with. But the focus needs to be on the future. And so that's what I'm, that's kind of what drove me to be on the show. It's looking to the future. Yeah, I was going to ask, so this, so these past 21 years,
Starting point is 00:07:09 years, do you have, are you just retired? Do you have another job? What do you, what have you been up to? Right. So I'm not, I'm not working now. I retired, uh, oh, three and a half years ago, retired, retired, but nobody's able to just retire right out of the military. You don't make that much money in retirement. And so almost everybody has to get a job. And I did. I did a couple of different things for a few years. I spent the last 11 of my working years, uh, with a major, Aerospace Manufacturing Company in the Pacific Northwest. I won't mention the name, but most people know who that is. And I retired from there three and a half years ago, and now I am fully retired, and it's such a
Starting point is 00:07:54 great job being retired. You like it? I love it. I love it. And the best part of being retired is having the time and the means to say yes to things that you had to kind of put on hold when you were when you were working and and the thing you had to put on hold most that matters most to me is foregoing opportunities to to visit with friends and family and shipmates all over the country and so for the last three and a half years that's how
Starting point is 00:08:29 I spend most of my retired time as I travel cross country and stop and see family friends shipmates that I had to, you know, forego seeing for all those years that I was working. And now I got a whole bunch of new friends to go visit, too, my fellow mansion men all over the country. You should just sell your house and travel 24-7 at this, right? You've got a lot of people to visit. I have given that some thoughts, Serena. Do you work out? Do you work out every day?
Starting point is 00:09:00 I mean, you're 69. You look incredible. Well, I just had my 70th birthday two months ago. So I'm 70 now. Seven. Wow. Happy birthday. I'm pretty proud to get to that big night.
Starting point is 00:09:11 It's a big number. You do not like 70 at all. Well, I appreciate that very much. I don't go to a gym. I do a lot of isometric stuff. I'm doing a lot of push-ups every day. And I walk or run or jog or do something. I'm just staying active.
Starting point is 00:09:30 Amazing how many calories you can burn gardening. And so I do a lot of different. different things. But I don't, I don't work out for workout safe. Okay. Just staying active in moving your body. How did you, how did you wind up on the Golden Bachelor at? Yeah, very good question. So last year in October, the Golden Bachelor was on. I didn't watch it. The only reason I even knew anything about the show was because they were putting ads during the college football games I was watching. And so the trailers were showing up. And so I was aware there was a show, but I wasn't all that interested in watching it. And I read an article online about one of the
Starting point is 00:10:16 cast members leaving the show early. And I thought, well, that's interesting. That told me two things about the show. One, maybe the people on the reality TV show are real people. I wasn't really sure about that. But they're real people. And the other thing it said was a lot about Joan's character. She's the one that left to take care of her, to be with her daughter in a tough time and to forego fame, fortune, the chance of love to take care of a family member said a lot about the person she was. So two weeks later, there was another article that said Joan was trying to get back on the show. And she couldn't. And at the bottom of that article, was the opportunity to apply to be on a future version of the show,
Starting point is 00:11:06 either a Golden Bachelor or Golden Bachelorette. So I filled out the application. Wow. You're the interesting. Yeah, you're the first guy to do that. And you didn't ever watch the show prior. I did not watch any of the Golden Bachelor series until two days before I flew to L.A. to start filming the Golden Bachelorette.
Starting point is 00:11:28 And I wanted to get a better idea. of what to expect and I wanted it fresh in my mind. So I binge watched it. Got it. And so you really went on the show for Joan? Well, I went on the show for Joan. I knew, I didn't know when that Joan was going to be the Golden Bachelorette until well into the casting process.
Starting point is 00:11:53 And, but I went on the show, in all honesty, for three reasons, none of which were I didn't have the expectation that I was actually going to fall in love with the Golden Bachelorette in a short period of time like that. There's a lot of other guys competing. The odds just aren't there. So I didn't set that as an expectation. It would have been great if it happened, but I didn't have that as an expectation. The expectations I did have were that I wanted the adventure.
Starting point is 00:12:23 You know, I may be retired and I may be old, but that doesn't mean that you're not interested in adventure. And being on a TV show like that would be an adventurous, fun, interesting thing to do. And so I did it for that reason. I did it because if all my friends, family, anybody who ever has met me would get such a kick out of seeing me on TV because it's so out of character for me, you know, retired Navy Captain guy, to go and be on a reality TV show. So I knew that they would have an awful lot of fun. I'd bring a lot of smiles to a lot of faces if I did it and actually showed up on TV. The third reason I did the show, and the most important one, it really has to do with my late wife. Mary died seven years ago, before she died.
Starting point is 00:13:09 She asked that her cancer story be shared with as many women as possible. Because it's a story of late detection, misdiagnosis, late treatment, all of which probably shortened her life. And so she wanted her story told that, you know, women get a second opinion, don't necessarily trust the first doctor, get another one to look at it, make sure you're listened to, be in tune with your body, all of the important things that women need to know. She had ovarian cancer, which is a very unforgiving cancer when it's found late. So I thought, well, if I did on the TV show, I might get a chance to share Mary's story on TV. Well, I didn't get that opportunity, but I figured if I at least. make it a couple, three episodes, then there will be people who want to get to know more about me. And they'll go to my website, they'll go to Facebook, they'll go to Instagram, and they will
Starting point is 00:14:06 learn Mary's story. And all three of those expectations I've laid out, they've all happened in a wonderful way. And Mary's story has been shared with the right audience. 90% of my fans, I guess, are women. And they've been very appreciative of the story I shared on Instagram. about my life. Was it meaningful to be able to connect with Joan and the other men there that had also experienced losing a spouse? Yeah, good, good question. The best part of being on the show is the, was the opportunity to connect with people
Starting point is 00:14:44 in a similar circumstance. And it isn't just those that were widowers and Joan, of course, is a widow. But even the single guys that were, that had been divorced, I have, a lot of male friends my age. They're all married. And so the TV show, the Golden Bachelorette, gave me the opportunity to talk with, visit with, share stories with people in my same circumstance. And I hadn't had that opportunity. And it was a wonderful experience. And one of the things that bonded us together. And we're still good friends. How do you think that's impacted your life today and how you live
Starting point is 00:15:26 I have you can never have too many friends and having a cadre of you know fraternal brothers who have had the same experiences I've had and they're the same age group as me
Starting point is 00:15:42 and and that that has enriched my life their stories have enriched my life getting to know these guys spending 12 hours a day about 24 hours a day for several days with these guys. You build real close bonds,
Starting point is 00:15:59 and that's one of the things that I miss about being in the Navy is how close you get with the people that you go to sea with and experience challenging things with. All of us guys in the mansion experienced the same adventure and had similar backgrounds. And so those friendships are enriching, and they're long-lasting. I mean, we've got a group tech's been,
Starting point is 00:16:24 going on all day to day. Yeah. CK's birthday, right? CK's birthday. We're all wishing him well. He's only 62, though. He's still a kid, still a young guy. I never envision
Starting point is 00:16:38 being with a woman. I'll just be honest. I'm Jamel Hill, host of the Sports and Politics Podcasts, Politics. On this week's episode, I'm joined by basketball legend, Candice Parker, who stops by to discuss her candid new book, The Can Do Mindset,
Starting point is 00:16:53 in which she shares why She waited two years into marriage to come out. Like when I close my eyes at night, every night, I was like, I need to find my prince charming. Like, it was never a princess. Like, that never entered into my mind. But, you know, as I learned, sometimes life gives you things wrapped in a package that you didn't expect it. And that was just, you know, and honestly, it took me a long time to be okay with myself. Make sure to listen to this week's episode of Spala.
Starting point is 00:17:24 on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, my name is Enya Yumanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble.
Starting point is 00:17:54 Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your free IHeartRadio app. Search Emergency Intercom and listen now. What would you do if one bad decision forced you to choose between a maximum security prison or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth? Unfortunately from Mark Lombardo, this was the choice he faced.
Starting point is 00:18:16 He said, you are a number, a New York State number, and we own you. Shock incarceration, also known as boot camp, are short-term, highly regimented correctional programs that mimic military basic training. These programs aim to provide a shock of prison life, emphasizing strict discipline, physical training, hard labor, and rehabilitation programs. Mark had one chance to complete this program and had no idea of the hell awaiting him the next six months. The first night was so overwhelming and you don't know who's next to you. And we didn't know what to expect in the morning. nobody tells you anything listen to shock incarceration on the i heart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts
Starting point is 00:19:01 during your time on the show what was your relationship like with joan uh it was brief i didn't get that i didn't get that much time with joan but um the the time that we did have to together and chat together, I felt that we did connect over the things that we haven't come. The fact that we both lost our spouses at a young age, you know, much younger and much earlier than we ever thought would be the case, both to cancer, her husband, the pancreatic cancer, my wife, to ovarian cancer, but they were both in their 50s, you know, when they died. Or, I mean, he might have been 60, but way too early. I mean, you don't, that's not something you expect is going to happen.
Starting point is 00:19:55 You know, you expect you're going to have another 20 years together with this person. And so we connected on that basis. Family is awfully important to both of us. And so she's got children and grandchildren. She has four children. I have four children. She's got three grandchildren. I've got four grandchildren.
Starting point is 00:20:12 We both have degrees in computer science. What are the odds that two people our age have degrees in computer? science. Joan is a very smart woman in addition to being beautiful and personable. She's a very bright lady. And so we had we had a lot of things to connect with. And I hope we'll continue to be friends. She, she reached out after the last show and shared her email and phone number with me. And I hope we get a chance to visit together again sometime. What has, are you, are you ready to date? Are you dating? What's dating life like for you now? Good question.
Starting point is 00:20:53 Yes, I'm ready to date. I didn't date at all for five and a half years after Mary passed away. It just, I don't know, I just wasn't that interested in doing that. Plus, I was still working and busy. And then once I retired and made my first cross-country vacation trip driving, I realized and did some overseas travel, I realized how much more enjoyable it would be to have. a romantic companion with me and so I dated a little bit I am dating now but there's no I'm not
Starting point is 00:21:34 in a relationship at this point and so I'm still I'm still dating what's not a lot a little bit here and there what's the ideal situation or woman for you in your life currently what are you I'm looking for someone who is independent, someone who doesn't need a guy, need someone, need someone, but wants someone, because I feel the same way. I'm not looking to, I don't have a need that I need filled. I want to be with somebody. It's not that I need to be with somebody. I would like to have someone to be with. And I would hope that person would feel the same.
Starting point is 00:22:17 independent. I'm not looking for somebody who, who, uh, uh, wants to be somebody else's dependent. So I like an independent person. Um, uh, I, I think I would have more in common with a, with a widow. Uh, but, you know, I think it would take a very special, a woman who's not a widow, divorcee to accept the fact, um, that if she were to date me seriously and get serious with me, she'd have to appreciate that I'm still in love with my late wife. Yeah. Because you don't, there's a big difference between being divorced and losing your spouse. And, but there are very, you know, I'm sure there's a, you know, very special women out there who are divorced,
Starting point is 00:23:05 who can appreciate that and still, and respect that and honor it. Are there any women from the Golden Bachelor that have caught your eye? Yes, but I haven't had. the opportunity yet to meet with them. I, I, uh, that hasn't happened. A specific, um, person I would, would like to meet and talk with is, uh, Nancy. I'd like very much. We, we like Nancy.
Starting point is 00:23:33 Yeah, well, I, I, she seems awfully nice. I didn't know very much about her until she actually appeared, uh, on, uh, a couple of the last episodes of our show, uh, as part of Jones support network and a very important part it was. And so I got a chance to see how, you know, the kind of person she is. And in addition to being beautiful, she impressed me with her, her sensitivity to Joan and her supportive nature. And, yeah, I mean, I don't know what her marital status was, you know, coming into the show. I had no idea. But I'd like to learn more about her.
Starting point is 00:24:09 And I haven't had a chance to hear or talk with her. Nancy single. Nancy single. So you should, you should reach out. At least last time we spoke with Nancy, she was single. She was dating, but she was single. Well, then we have that in common. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:24:24 Maybe you can, I don't know how to get in touch with her. But I was hoping the show would help facilitate that. But I haven't, that hasn't happened yet. So I'll figure it out. You should ask Joan for her number. That is a great idea. That's a good idea. I think I will do that.
Starting point is 00:24:42 Yeah, you should do that. I'll reach out to. Jones's been awfully busy lately. I don't know how much time she has to respond. She has time. She loves being matchmaker. I feel like she's a good matchmaker and she likes to do it. Well, I appreciate that insight.
Starting point is 00:24:57 And if Nancy's not available, I feel like Joan could like, be like, hmm, but I have this person or this person that you might like. What are your thoughts on Joan and Chalk together? I'm thrilled for both of them. I got the impression early on when Chock came back from his Disneyland date with Joan, he very much seemed to be smitten with her, absolutely smitten with her at that point. And the fact that Joan chose him for the first one-on-one out of 18 guys certainly said, that there was a very strong attraction that she had for him or to him. And so I'm not the least bit surprised that those were the two left standing at the end, or one kneeling and one standing at the end.
Starting point is 00:25:57 And so I'm thrilled for both of them and wish them all the best. And I hope they, you know, when they do decide to have the wedding, that they'll invite some of the mansion men to come as well. do you have any plans in the future to hang out with any of those guys nothing specific however i am traveling and i'm in currently in the state of florida and two of the guys live here and i've reached out to them i actually talked to them about it at the men tell all told him when i was going to be in florida and there's a good chance that at least one of them will be home and i'm planning to go see them in january so i'm going to be in florida for another
Starting point is 00:26:36 a couple of months, except for going back for Christmas with my kids in Seattle. So I'm definitely going to be seeing them. I'm hoping to see Mark as I drive cross country to California. I hope to stop and see Mark in Louisiana. And then when I get to California, there's like three or four guys in California that I hope to connect with. There's not a single one of these guys in from the mansion, among the mansion men. There's not one of them that I wouldn't love to hang out with, go have dinner with, stay at their house if they let me. They're all just wonderful human beings. That's so great.
Starting point is 00:27:14 It's so nice that you guys all come out of this with a new community of people to connect with and hang out with. But thank you so much for coming on, Kim. It was so great to chat with you and meet you. Very nice to meet both of you. And to all of our listeners, thank you so much for tuning into Bachelor Happy Hour. We have more exclusive interviews coming your way. So don't forget to subscribe. Thanks. And thank you, Kim.
Starting point is 00:27:37 Bye. Jack, welcome to Bachelor Happy Hour. How are you? I'm doing great. How about you? I'm doing good. I'm doing good. So you're a Chicago guy, huh? I am. Actually, I'm in northwest Indiana now, but born and raised in Chicago. What part? Southeast side, as far east as you can go. I'm from Mulrose Park.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Ah, we're the Italians. Yeah. All the Italians hang out. Melrose. Yeah, that's true. That's true. I saw you, you were cooking some Italian. Are you Italian? I am Italian. Lencioni. Yeah, a little bit. Yes. I heard you were the cook in the house. Yeah, actually, tonight I'm chefing for 120 women. Okay. Wow. Yes, I'm doing a fancy menu. I'm finishing it up with bananas foster and doing tenderloin medallions. I'm doing a butternut squash suit. to start yeah I'm doing a lot of stuff so so you're so you're a caterer what did you ever own a restaurant I did it was in the Linwood Illinois okay okay what type of restaurant was it
Starting point is 00:28:49 it was called Lencionis and it was kind of a bar with a mini casino 200 seat banquet room in the back yeah it was it was a heck of a joint but so you that that's a big operation sounds a little like Kenny's bar. A little bit. It's the restaurant business is not an easy one, right? Right, right. That's why I got all them bags in my eyes. What, how did you, so how did you wind up on the Golden Bachelorette?
Starting point is 00:29:24 You know, I had an ex-girlfriend that actually sent me an application. And then it was, I forgot, I think it was 39. long and uh it was uh it was actually i filled it out one night when i had quite a few cocktails that's the way to do it that's the best way to apply a little tipsy what's what's your cocktail a choice mine is an old-fashioned or bourbon on the rocks whichever one i decide that day and what is your what is your goal like if you're going to really impress a woman what is the dish that you're making. The one I'm doing for
Starting point is 00:30:06 this 120 women tonight. I'm tenderloin medallions with a bordelais sauce, asparagus, with a hollanda sauce, and pipe garlic mashed potatoes. Okay. And if you're choosing where to eat, where are you going? Where does the chef eat?
Starting point is 00:30:23 If I'm choosing where to go, I'm going to a place called Leveos. It's a small, what do you call it? It's not a chain restaurant. It's a local restaurant. It's a local restaurant that has phenomenal Italian food. Have you been to Las Cirola? I have right by my daughter's house.
Starting point is 00:30:41 My daughter lives in the city. Okay. What did your daughter think about you going on? How many kids do you have? I have two children. My daughter, Gina, my daughter, Jamie. What did they, how old are they? 20, I don't know, 38, 38 and 35.
Starting point is 00:30:57 What did they think about you going on the show? In the beginning, they did. like it. It was because my ex-wife didn't like it because she never knows what I was going to say, you know, but after they realized that I got a half a brain
Starting point is 00:31:13 and that I was going to do this the right way and they love it now. Actually, they came down for the men's tell-all. Oh, did they? That's fun. Yeah, it was cool. So going back to the house, just going back to your first day,
Starting point is 00:31:32 Well, how familiar with, how familiar were you with the Bachelor in general? Not at all. You never watched it. I mean, I had never saw. I saw it actually, and I told people this, and I almost apologize for it, because I saw it for the first time about two weeks before I went there. So because they don't tell you right away that you're going, you know. so I ended up that was what I did
Starting point is 00:32:03 I'm not shocked I would have assumed you didn't watch the show I would have guessed yeah and I'm just not going to lie it's just you know a lot of people and is it is it interesting now yeah I mean it's it's amazing now because there's a correlation
Starting point is 00:32:19 between you know the stuff that I did did your daughters watch it before you went on my yes yes my one daughter did the other daughter didn't. Okay. Did she give you any tips? Yeah, did she give you any advice?
Starting point is 00:32:36 Yeah, watch what you say, Dad. I mean, if my dad was going on, that's exactly what I would say. Yeah, yeah. Watch what you say. I'm Jamil Hill, host of the Sports and Politics Podcasts, Politics. And on the latest episode of Politics, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries joins me for a candid conversation about the of the Democratic Party. What do Republicans say to you privately that they won't say publicly? Many of them are in fear of their political lives, and that's been part of the challenge.
Starting point is 00:33:09 But we continue to say to them, you were elected to defend your constituents, to stand up for your constituents. And there's life after Congress. And you should be willing to actually want to be able to look back on your time in the House of Representatives knowing that you can keep your head held high because you did the right thing. Donald Trump is gone in three and a half years. But their legacy or their failure to stand up to the extremism and the unprecedented assault on America as we know it will be with them forever. Make sure to listen to Spolitics on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.

A foot washed up a shoe with some bones in it. They had no idea who it was. Most everything was burned up pretty good from the fire that not a whole lot was salvageable. These are the coldest of cold cases, but everything is about to change.
Starting point is 00:34:35 Every case that is a cold case that has DNA. Right now in a backlog will be identified in our lifetime. A small lab in Texas is cracking the code on DNA. Using new scientific tools, they're finding clues in evidence so tiny you might just miss it. He never thought he was going to get caught. And I just looked at my computer screen. I was just like, ah, gotcha. On America's Crime Lab, we'll learn about victims and survivors, and you'll meet the team behind the scenes at Othrum, the Houston Lab that takes on the most hopeless cases to finally solve the unsolvable. Starting point is 00:35:23 Okay, so you step out of the limo that first day. what's going through your head how do you feel about Joan I thought Joan was the most beautiful person and inside and out and when I got out of the limo all I wanted to do was impressor and of course I sang
Starting point is 00:35:42 coming out of limo which was a little different than you know the other other people and actually not bad for you know doing that Acapulah stuff and coming out of the limo like that yeah it actually I thought it came out halfway decent but who know you sound good you sound do you sing like when you're catering do you do you go out there and sing a little frank sinatra you know i don't do it necessarily i kind of
Starting point is 00:36:08 keep those two worlds separate you know because you know the the cooking is very whatever and then the singing is kind of my fun thing to do now did you have uh meeting joan did you have a connection with her you know we really didn't have a connection and because of the fact that that, you know, you really don't get as much time in the beginning that you want with her, you know? And so in that way, no, I did not, I didn't have time to impress her with my, I don't know, with anything. Well, I did. I cooked the dinner. You cooked the dinner.
Starting point is 00:36:48 And I was saying to her. So what the hell? I mean, what else could you do, you know? What was that dinner? Was that a field chop that you made? I don't remember. No, that was tenderline medalline. It was very simple to what I'm doing tonight.
Starting point is 00:36:59 Yeah, that's your coach. And then with the, you know, with the borderlays sauce, it's, you can't go wrong with that. If you don't like filet mignon with a little, uh, bordelais sauce on it, a little asparagus with Holland Bays, it's, you don't like anything. Sounds really good. It's making me hungry. Well, yeah, I'm actually starting. What was the battle?
Starting point is 00:37:16 What was the battle on the grill between the burgers? Chris. Chris, Chris, and Chris is one heck of a nice guy. I'm sorry. I interrupted you. No, no. I was just saying he put barbecue sauce on the burgers
Starting point is 00:37:29 or what did he put on the burgers? He put barbecue sauce on the burgers and putting barbecue sauce on the burgers if you put it on one is okay maybe two but not on all of them because nobody's going to eat them I mean it's just
Starting point is 00:37:41 but that's my opinion. What is that? I mean it is a bold move to throw barbecue sauce on every single burger Yeah but doesn't a lot of that get burnt off on the fire?
Starting point is 00:37:53 No. No because he put it on like cheese like at the end you know where you're not flipping it around and everything so what was your favorite part about living with all these guys and you're in your least favorite part the camaraderie the the ability to to meet these guys at this age and have this whole separate group of friends and these guys they text every day and they you know a couple of the guys I talked to twice a week And yeah, I mean, it just was a great, a great time meeting them. And the whole thing, I mean, you're, you know, you got the mansion, you got the pool, you got cannonballs.
Starting point is 00:38:35 It was all beautiful. What was it like seeing everyone? You attended the mental all and after the rolls. What was that like? Oh, it's comical. I mean, Charles was my roommate in my, what do you call it, dressing room? and I says, it's the first thing I go and I said,
Starting point is 00:38:54 Charles, what did you do to your head? You know, and he goes in he said, you like Jack? And it was, it was great. It was great to see Charles.
Starting point is 00:39:05 It was great to see all the guys. Have you connected with any of the Chicago guys that live in the city? You know, Pastel invited me for dinner last week. It just didn't work out. And Jordan, And Michael, I talked to back and forth as far as text and that.
Starting point is 00:39:24 So we're supposed to get together in Chicago. Yes. Are you doing anything for the holidays? Pardon me? Are you doing anything for the holidays? No, I'm going to enjoy my family. I had my grandkids, my daughter, my ex, my everybody over for Thanksgiving. And it was a beautiful thing.
Starting point is 00:39:44 It was, you know, they came at about 11 in the morning and then they left at about 8 o'clock at night. and it's great. How does your ex feel now about the show? Is she okay with it now after it's done? She's all good. She's a great lady and she's just, she's fine with it now. Now, not before.
Starting point is 00:40:05 No. Wait, you said your ex sent you the application. It wasn't your ex-wife though. It was an ex-girlfriend. No, that was an ex-girlfriend. I'm sorry. Okay. How did that conversation go?
Starting point is 00:40:16 Did she just say, hey, I think you should sign up. I think you'd be great for this? Right. Just about exactly what you said, you know, she said, I think you'd be great for this, you know, fill this out, you know. And so I says, okay. And then I didn't fill it out. And then one day I think it was, I don't know, snowing or something. And I was at Libyos having a bourbon. Imagine that. And then I just filled it out, you know. Wow. Okay. So what is, what, what is dating life like for you now? comical I mean it's wonderful you know I
Starting point is 00:40:52 there's this really nice beautiful lady named Kathy that I am dating a little bit but not you know I mean she lives in Florida I live here she actually was a fan of the show and sent me something you know and I don't answer all them things
Starting point is 00:41:08 in fact I don't understand how to answer all them things my daughter tells me if I got different things because she kind of managed my accounts because I don't know nothing about that stuff. Yeah, that's okay though. That's fine.
Starting point is 00:41:25 Are you, so like when you like tonight, you're catering a big party, do these people, will these women know who you are from the show? Oh yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, definitely. It's going to be a thing.
Starting point is 00:41:41 I got to do tell you a funny story. So you know, Chicago. little bit. You know where Hinsdale's at? Yeah. Yeah. I know she got a lot of bit. I grew up in Chicago. I mean, I was born and raised in Chicago. So you know, oh, I didn't realize that. Sorry. No, no, no, no. You're fine. So I'm in Hinsdale walking down the street with this girl on my first date with her. And all of a sudden, this woman comes running out of the store like frantically. And she yells, you're Jack from the Golden Batch. And I go, yes, yes, I am. Hi. I, you know.
Starting point is 00:42:15 I mean, you just don't know how to answer this stuff. But like two minutes later, a guy pulls over in downtown, you know, hence down, and he goes, hey, you're Jack from the Goldman. And I'm thinking, this is going to be a weird date. I don't know how I'm going to handle all this. But after that it calmed on, it was all good. Nice. Yeah, I mean, there's nothing wrong with that.
Starting point is 00:42:36 She might have liked it, you know? Yeah, you know, I think in some way she might have, but in some ways she kind of, yeah. Yeah. Are you familiar with, well, you're dating, you're kind of dating somebody. Were there any other women from The Golden Bachelor that you were interested in? Christina is very nice lady. And, you know, there's, and Susan I've talked to back in port, you know, she's a very busy woman, Susan. I mean, she's got a lot of stuff going on.
Starting point is 00:43:11 And, but she's a super nice lady, very intelligent. didn't lot of very charming she is i want to i want to go over to her house i hear she's a really good cook too you guys should get together who do you think is about her cook well you know you got to remember i cooked for thousands and you know i'd have to add it up one time to find how many you know because for 40 years i had a thousand-seat banquet hall and then no that was actually for only 28 years but then i had the right restaurant and we had all these other banquet halls so yeah so i i'm cooked for quite a bit and done quite a bit of different things who'd you get your produce from back in a day it was called
Starting point is 00:43:57 baker produce and zanstra produce but besides that i got it from tano's foods which is another you know like a gordon food service type thing you got it yeah i used to be in the produce business i used to work at the oh you're in a produce you worked on a water market yep Yeah. Nice. Yeah. Have you ever been down there? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:19 Back in a day, we used to go there. You know, I mean, like 40, 50 years ago, that was what you did. You went down and got the best deal. Yeah. What are some of your, what's your favorite memory from your time on the show? Again, you know, meeting Joan was really cool. The times with the guys in the pool. We were, you know, having cocktails and BS and, you know, the whole mansion was, I enjoyed every bit of it.
Starting point is 00:44:55 The only part that I didn't like, and I've said this before, is that, you know, you got the bunk beds, and I'm kind of claustrophobic, so the top bunk no good and the bottom bunk no good because you see the top bunk. and so I kind of slept downstairs and the funny part about that is because the first night I went and I said hey I'm going to go sleep outside and one of the guys said that's fine but there's a lot of tarantulas out there
Starting point is 00:45:21 oh my gosh. I slammed the door and I said okay where can I sleep and so we found a couch for me we saw that you obviously you're at the mental all but you also were at the after the final rose for the finale
Starting point is 00:45:35 what did you think of that and how do you feel about Joan and Chalk. I, from the day one, I said that Joan and Chack were, Jack was going to
Starting point is 00:45:46 be the winner because, and not to take anything away from me or any of the other guys, but he was just,
Starting point is 00:45:54 he had a lot in common with her. He was a super nice guy. He's good-looking, son of a gun. I mean, he, I just thought
Starting point is 00:46:03 Chuck was the guy for the, to win. Yeah, I think a lot of guys feel that way. Yeah, we heard there was a party after the finale. Did you go? Oh, yeah. How was it?
Starting point is 00:46:16 That party, that was like, you know, back when Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin or whatever used to go to a Hollywood party, that's what that party was like. I mean, there was just like everybody's all over with, you know, Butler style hors d'oeuvres, martini's Manhattan, anything you wanted, you got there. And it was, and I, again, it was very comical. There were like people wanted to talk to me there. And I'm thinking of myself, I'm like a little Mickey Mouse in comparison to these people. I said, but, you know, it was a ball and the place was gorgeous. I mean, you were, you weren't on the show for that long, but you were very, when you were on the show, you were one of the main, main focus points. Yeah, people were surprised that you went home so early.
Starting point is 00:47:06 People weren't expecting that. We weren't expecting that either. You know, I wasn't expecting it either to tell you the truth. And, you know, I just figured that I might have, you know, because when you kind of act like I do, some people like you and some people don't. So I'm thinking maybe there was a guy, you know, or whoever's making a decision because I really don't think Joan wanted to get rid of me that early. But who knows?
Starting point is 00:47:35 what was it we um you you saw elvis elvis his last concert huh may 2nd 197 may 2nd 97 i was in the front row was it where was in Vegas no in Chicago at the amphitheater uh antitheater yeah anyway so yeah i was in the front row and it was so funny because alvis you know he was always throwing scarves out and everything so he threw a scarf out and I got it and this guy behind next to me my buddy uh hubba they he gave him a pick well there was some excuse me chicks and behind us that wanted the pick and the scarf well he gave him the pick and he said give him the scar I said giving him the scarves scar's staying with me so I still have the scar you still have it oh yeah wow what do you think that's why you think it's worth anything
Starting point is 00:48:32 definitely no I mean how could they talk I mean, it's not like he had his name on it or anything. I guess they could do the DNA thing or whatever. But, you know, it's been, God, May 677. It's got to be almost 50 years. Yeah, that's true. What brand is the scarf? Just a regular.
Starting point is 00:48:49 Pardon? What brand is the scarf? Is that anything? You know, I've never, I don't, I don't even know if there's a brand on there, you know. Yeah. Wow. So you're hosting a dinner party tonight.
Starting point is 00:49:01 Do you think you'll ever fully officially retire and stop working? you know some people ask me they said what are you doing it and I go because you know what doing it once in a blue moon is fine doing it every day I'm under pressure and that's why I sold the restaurant because you know every day I was starting to think we were a very busy restaurant and I thought you know I was under pressure all the time I said I am going to drop that and never get to spend that money I made so I that's why I ended up quitting but doing it once in a while I sure i enjoy it tonight's gonna be a ball nice nice what do you any plans for christmas eve my kids will come here um and then um on christmas day i'm not sure where i haven't thought that far ahead yet
Starting point is 00:49:53 um yeah because i'm leaving for florida on the third of january and then i take my car and or my SUV and then dragged there with my bicycle and golf clubs, everything, and then I stay a couple of months in Florida. Nice. That's nice. What part of Florida? I'm in Treasure Island for a month and then Marco Island for another month. Nice.
