Jill is here. Hi, Jill. How are you today? Hi, I'm good. It's so funny
Starting point is 00:03:57 hearing you guys say from Clayton's season because it seems like it's so long time. I know. I'm like, oh, my God. It is. It is a lifetime ago, but you know, you're absolutely stunningly beautiful. I have to ask you. And when I was reading about you, you were from Cituate, Rhode Island. Yes, Cituent, Rhode Island. I am from outside of Boston, Massachusetts, and there's a Cituate, Massachusetts. And so when I read that, I thought, is that a misprint? Like, where is Cituate Rhode Island? Stichwood, Rhode Island is like 20 minutes outside of province to the west.
Starting point is 00:04:30 It's like closer to like Connecticut. It's like the sticks. Okay. Okay. And where are you now? I'm in Newport. So Newport, Rhode Island. Oh, I've been there.
Starting point is 00:04:40 Woo! It's nice. It's beautiful. Oh, my gosh. Remember, Susan, we were talking about it where the Vanderbilt mansions are. Oh, yeah, it's beautiful there. Are you on the water? Are you on the water, Jill?
Starting point is 00:04:51 Girl, I can't afford to be on the water. It's like living in California on the water. Right. I could walk to it, but it's not, yeah. So what do you do in Newport? I'm an architectural historian. Well, I saw that in your bio. Tell me what that means. So basically, I study old houses.
Starting point is 00:05:09 I work for the, I work for the municipal government, and I deal with all of the future planning for all historic houses and the historic district. Oh, wow. Yeah. In Newport, that's, yeah, and Newport, that's, that's a, that's a, more than a full-time job. Oh my God, yeah. And do you love it? Love, dream job. See, that's what you want, your dream job. So, Jill, we're going to get to know you a lot better today, and we want everybody else to know you as well. Okay. So we're going to kick things off with the question of the day. Kath, you want to read it? I do, but wait, can I just ask Jill one more question? Sure. I have a bone
Starting point is 00:05:50 to pick with you, Jill, and I just met you, and you're absolutely gorgeous. Thank you. Yes. pick your bones. Okay, here it comes. Remember, I'm from outside of Boston. We say what we think. Oh, okay. Yep. I know. Okay. Here it comes. Why wasn't I listed on your favorite best impressions, first impressions from Golden Bachelor? I didn't get hair. I didn't get dress. I didn't get makeup. I didn't get accessories. Wait, I want to see this list. Oh, you can guess who got it. Well, best hair is Edith. Edith. that's, um, uh, Edith got best dress, uh, April got best accessories. Can't argue with that. Um, I can't remember who the other ones were, but I was like, what the hell? Well, it's, so my friends when we, when we were watching the Golden Bachelor, we had a league. And so we all had our own people. So I was like, very focused on my people. Okay. So that's why. But, okay, Susan, we were not her people. Come on.
Starting point is 00:06:53 We were not her people. We were mentioned. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. If it was personality, you guys would have taken it easily, easily. But this was like, what, night one? I don't know. It was night one. Anyway, I was just, I went through it on the Bachelor Nation website. And I was like, wait a minute. She didn't mention Susan Orby. How about that? Oh, my God. I was probably blackout. All right. All right. Let's get to our question today. That was just my torment.
Starting point is 00:07:18 All right. So what is something you wish you knew about men and dating when you were younger? she's still young but okay yeah um what i wish i knew i wish i knew that they're deeply disturbed and that none of them have had therapy and none of them know what they're doing and they will all like they're all just going to disappoint you honestly like i even read the book women are from venus men are from mars and i still don't get it how they think i still i can't figure it out No, I can't figure it out. And it's just like I'm exhausted. And then you give up trying, right? I know that. That's kind of where I'm at now. I'm just like, you know what?
Starting point is 00:08:01 It'll happen again and again and again. No, no, no, no, no. Don't say that. We didn't get married out of high school and move around the world with our husband. No, it's possible to find someone that you love and loves you. No, totally. Of course it is. I mean, it definitely is. But like, I'm at a point in my life for like, I can do it myself. Like I can do everything myself So I'm like happy there I'm at a point where like I'm not going to settle
Starting point is 00:08:28 You know like obviously I'd love to get married and have kids And live and live happily ever after But not at any cost Do you feel like being so self-sufficient that that intimidates men? I feel like oh God I don't I hope not I feel like that's just the kind of caliber of woman these days right Like well the women that you surround your sublet So this is a good segue.
Starting point is 00:08:53 I don't know how comfortable and whatever you don't want to talk about. But I did read about your breakup with Ellis. And Rachel, be in there for you. I love her. I know. We love Rachel. She's lovely. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:09:07 She's the best. How are you doing since the breakup and anything you want to share with us? Because, you know, we can put a contract out on for you if you want. We can fix this. Susan has a cadre of baseball bat. I do know my last name, though. Yeah. So talk to us, only what, you know, tell us what, whatever you feel like you want to show. Okay. So, yeah, I knew you guys want to ask this question. We have to. We have to.
Starting point is 00:09:32 I, so I think it's not like nothing crazy happened, nothing like juicy or salacious. It's just like there comes to a point in a relationship. We were together for two years. And, you know, it was definitely a turning point. Either we were going to make it work or we weren't. And so, you know, as hard as you try, there's sometimes where it just doesn't work out. And so. So that was a decision that was made. For both of you, was it mutual? I mean, that's tough to say. I thought we had a little more time, but I, you know, the writing was on the wall. Yeah. So, yeah, I mean, it was definitely really difficult. We lived together.
Starting point is 00:10:11 So he moved out. Yeah, I know. He moved out pretty swiftly. But it's fine. Like, this was my apartment before anyways. So it's just like business as usual. um does he live in newport yes well newport's not a huge place do you bump into him girl i don't go out you don't go out no i wait how old do you how old do you again i'm 29
Starting point is 00:10:36 i'm about to be 30 this summer so the night thing is over we're no i've never been like a party or a drinker really like i like to go out with my friends like every now and then but I am best suited with my Kindle and, you know, and my, you know, baking. So do you have any regrets on it? Like, do you wish you'd done things differently? I mean, we all have regrets, but. No. I actually feel like, yeah, I feel really proud of the way that I.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Do you learn from? Oh, my God. What lessons? Tell me a lesson you've learned. Okay. Oh, my God. I, well, I got to know myself and who I am in a relationship. so much more.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Like now I feel like for my next relationship, I know what I'm looking for. I know who I am. I mean, girl, I've been in therapy since I was like 13. So I can like hand somebody a roadmap to my mind. And that's pretty good.
Starting point is 00:11:31 I feel like conflict resolution and just dealing with conflict. I remember when I was 23, I was just like, like, like just so unbelievably like inconsolable. But now I handle. conflict much better. You're mature. You're mature. That's why. Yeah, mature. So wait, I have a question because Susan believes, if I remember what I read correctly, you went to a psychic after your
Starting point is 00:11:57 breakup. Oh my God. Yes, I did. Okay. So Susan goes to psychic. So you two just. Not psychics. I go to one. No, you both go to psychics, meaning each of you. So I want to hear, what did you, what, what gems, what came out of that? Because I've never done it and I'm not sure I ever could. Why? As yours, a medium as well? Mine wasn't a medium. I have seen psychic mediums before, but I also have an astrologer that I love. I want to hear what, tell me what, what did they say?
Starting point is 00:12:26 So she said, she was like, okay, now's not your time for love. And I'm like, don't care. I'm like, shut up. I don't want to hear that. I don't want to hear that. I know. She's like, give us six months. And I'm like, yeah, obviously, I'm going to give it six months.
Starting point is 00:12:40 and then she also said that she said eventually I was going to write something and I was like that's pretty cool she said I'm destined for greatness obviously you know we all knew that but she also said that I have like I have psychic abilities which may
Starting point is 00:12:59 okay let's get to the heart of it when are Susan and I going to meet Mr. Wright oh my God right no no I honestly like but it's so crazy because I did have a paranormal experience before I went on The Bachelor. Oh. Do tell.
Starting point is 00:13:13 Tell. Yeah. So before I went on The Bachelor, I was like at my friends house saying my final goodbyes to them. And then I went outside and I heard like something running towards me. I saw like a big dark figure. And I'm like, I scream. I run back inside.
Starting point is 00:13:28 We check the ring camera. And that was the only file that was corrupted. Like all the other files were good. That was the only file that was corrupted. I'm like, oh, my God. So then I go home and I tell my dad. And my dad was like, oh, yeah. Like, you're, you know, my family is from, is Chinese.
Starting point is 00:13:43 So he's like, oh, yeah, like, your great grandmother, like, had these abilities as well. Like, you know, he gave, like, a Chinese name for it, which is called, like, cat eye or something. And, like, you're able to kind of see through the veil. And I'm like, okay, but. Were you frightened by it or did it touch you in a certain way? No, well, I was comfortable. Well, I could, no, I could feel like, it felt sinister. Like, I felt it wasn't like a happy presence.
Starting point is 00:14:09 But, yeah, like, I believe in all that stuff. My family's very, like, we're not superstitious. Like, we, you know. Embrace it. We embrace it. I'm Jamel Hill, host of the Sports and Politics Podcasts, Politics. And on the latest episode of Politics, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries joins me for a candid conversation
Starting point is 00:14:32 about the state of the Democratic Party. What do Republicans say to you privately that they won't say publicly? many of them are in fear of their political lives and that's been part of the challenge but we continue to say to them you were elected to defend your constituents to stand up for your constituents and there's life after Congress and you should be willing to actually want to be able to look back on your time in the House of Representatives knowing that you can keep your head held high because you did the right thing Donald Trump is gone in three and a half years but their legacy or their failure to stand up to the extremism and the unprecedented assault on America as we know it will be with them forever.
Starting point is 00:15:15 Make sure to listen to Spolitics on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, my name is Enya Umanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble.
Starting point is 00:15:44 Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your free I-HeartRadio app. Search Emergency Intercom and listen now. What would you do if one bad decision forced you to choose between a maximum security prison or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth? Unfortunately for Mark Lombardo, this was the choice he faced. He said, you are a number, a New York State number, and we own you.
Starting point is 00:16:11 Shock incarceration, also known as boot camps, are short-term, highly regimented correctional programs that mimic military basic training. These programs aim to provide a shock of prison life, emphasizing strict discipline, physical training, hard labor, and rehabilitation programs. Mark had one chance to complete this program and had no idea of the hell awaiting him. him the next six months. The first night was so overwhelming, and you don't know who's next to you. And we didn't know what to expect in the morning. Nobody tells you anything. Listen to shock incarceration on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:16:53 My name is Ed. Everyone say, hello, Ed? Hello, Ed. I'm from a very rural background myself. My dad is a farmer, and my mom is a cousin, so, like, it's not, like... What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke, but that really was my reality nine years ago. I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different.
Starting point is 00:17:15 On stage stood a comedian with a story that no one expected to hear. The 22nd of July 2015, a 23-year-old man had killed his family. And then he came to my house. So what do you get when a true crime producer walks? into a comedy club. A new podcast called Wisecrack, where stand-up comedy and murder takes center stage.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Available now. Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A foot washed up a shoe with some bones in it. They had no idea who it was. Most everything was burned up pretty good from the fire that not a whole lot was salvageable. These are the coldest of cold cases.
Starting point is 00:18:06 But everything is about to change. Every case that is a cold case that has DNA. Right now in a backlog will be identified in our lifetime. A small lab in Texas is cracking the code on DNA. Using new scientific tools, they're finding clues in evidence so tiny you might just miss it. He never thought he was going to get caught. And I just looked at my computer screen.
Starting point is 00:18:30 I was just like, ah, gotcha. On America's crime lab, we'll learn about victims and survivors. And you'll meet the team behind the scenes at Othrum, the Houston Lab that takes on the most hopeless cases to finally solve the unsolvable. Listen to America's Crime Lab on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I want to know if you have any advice for people going through a breakup. Yes. Oh, God. Oh, God. Well, it's like, yeah, so I'm in the thick of it. Well, I'm not really in the think of it right now.
Starting point is 00:19:08 But I think, you know, obviously having friends there, literally the second I told Rachel, she said she booked a flight, like immediately. So that was like so nice to have people around you. So you're telling them to lean on a friend, basically. Lean on a friend, for sure. Don't be too hard on yourself. I am always like, I hold myself to such a high standard that I feel you. I am just like even, I always have this mentality of like, okay, well, I've got to. just got to pick myself up i got to pick myself up but it's like i don't allow myself the time to
Starting point is 00:19:39 grieve or to feel you know feel my feelings so definitely allow your allow yourself time to grieve and then don't also don't lose like hope in yourself or don't take it necessarily personally because there is hopefully going to be someone out there that's going to love you unconditionally yeah and for you so yeah it's just like you know you've got to move forward but also kind of like respect the past and it's okay to be down for a while you have to go through the morning yes i think sometimes people just rush they're yeah what you said um jill like sometimes people just say okay just pick yourself up dust yourself off and get back out there and you you need the time i think you're smart to to realize that you need the time to kind of just let yourself be and feel
Starting point is 00:20:27 and mourn and all the emotions that you have because that's the only way you can then you know you have to walk through grief, whatever that grief is to get to the other side. I have a good question, actually. What, what, you've been on Paradise, obviously, as well as Bachelor. Yes. What's the difference? Oh, God. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:45 Like, how did you feel different on each? Okay. So on The Bachelor, obviously, like, when you first go on, it's like so nerve-wracking. It's your first time on TV, you're like a deer in the headlights. So on Bachelor, the difference is it's not your love story. you're one of many yeah you're one of many but on paradise it's like you can choose your own adventure so the focus is more on you in your decisions which is a little scary um and women i don't understand can you explain that i don't understand when you say it's your what do you mean give me an example
Starting point is 00:21:20 what you mean by that you're your adventure choosing who she wants a date right is that right they have to choose you as well right yeah but it's like you have so much more freedom to do whatever you want you know like the beaches is open you can just do whatever you want i can talk to whoever you want it's not like well you know maybe i'll get time tonight it's like my three minutes yeah right like i'll definitely get time and you're with these people you live with these people so it's a totally different experience and you get to know i mean they they keep you a little bit separate but like not really like the the genders so um yeah it's it's totally different and the spotlight is is definitely more on the individual versus, like, the lead.
Starting point is 00:22:05 There's no lead. Got it. Right. I want to know when you're in paradise, did you ever, because Susan, I've talked about this, it seems so different to us. I mean, we've never been, but the watching it, watching it. Watch them do a golden paradise gas. Oh, I really hope they do.
Starting point is 00:22:23 But wait. But we wouldn't do what you guys do, I don't think. I mean, I'm not, I'm not going to the boom, boom, room, jail. trust me and believe I have not nobody I feel like the boom boom room has cobwebs in it
Starting point is 00:22:35 nobody's been in the boom room for years like we gotta ramp that up but not me not talking about me yeah oh wait a minute
Starting point is 00:22:43 so that means you would never go back to paradise would you? Oh god I mean it's always on the tip you're a new woman you're single
Starting point is 00:22:52 who knows I mean I mean yes who knows but there would have to be men there that I could actually date like and let's be serious for a second guys like it's excellent like and do you know who the men
Starting point is 00:23:07 are going to be no you don't know anything that's the thing but right so you're trusting that there are going to be people that you can date right obviously like I could talk the wallpaper off the walls but like if if you don't have like a job or you know a plan then I'm not going to really be interested you know if you don't have a you're go ahead you're looking for I'm just looking for something different, you know, like, there's going to be people, there's going to be fresh meat. There's fresh meat down there. They're all, you know, they got to get their yayas out. That's totally good. But I, if I were to go down, I'd be looking, you know, I'd get engaged. I don't care. Like I would, if it works, it works. You can't. Yeah, like, I would
Starting point is 00:23:46 definitely be, I remember the last time I went to Paradise. I was like, I'm ready to be engaged. Girl, I was not ready to be engaged. Like, now after going through like a serious relationship and like knowing what it takes and being like that close now I know and so yeah I would be like so why not get engaged after a week sounds good to me right I mean crazier things have happened or married after three weeks right I mean yeah I would I it's definitely not off the table but it would have to be you know it'd have to be serious right yeah yeah but you don't have to do anything on that show right you just do you feel like people will be with each other just to stay or are they really into each other?
Starting point is 00:24:32 Because then somebody new comes in with a date card and they take them and then the girl's crying or, you know. So there's definitely like a level of gameplay to it, which is normal. There's friendship roses. There's, you know, I want to stay the next week to see if the person I really want to see comes down. And that's all valid. That's all good. But yeah, I mean, it gets messy. It gets so messy.
Starting point is 00:24:56 It's just so fun. I love a mess. I love him. I'll be there counseling everybody. Wait a second. I think Jill, can we have your phone number? We're going to call see if we'd get Jill on Paradise Shown because they're having another one. I mean.
Starting point is 00:25:09 Oh my God. Yeah. I mean, well, girl, who knows? Who knows? We'll see. We'll see. That's cool. That's very cool.
Starting point is 00:25:17 Okay. So, um, uh, what, are you like married to Newport? No, to Newport. I mean, would you consider leaving and doing. something different because you know you you your work you do a lot of bake do you bake a lot too I do I bake a sourdough and yeah you bake like what's next for you are you tell me what's next on the agenda for you that's such so it's so funny because I was just talking to someone the other day about making a change and I feel like you know I've I've lived I've lived in Rhode Island my whole
Starting point is 00:25:51 life the only time I lived away was when I studied abroad like I went to college in Newport you know whole life has been centered in Rhode Island, which obviously I love. It's not a bad thing. It's not a bad thing. Newport's like the best place to be for architecture. But I think that, you know, I am looking to step outside of my comfort zone, wherever that takes me. And now it's like, you know, I thought I was going to live here forever.
Starting point is 00:26:18 You know, I thought I had the person that I was going to live here forever with. And now that I don't, it's like, oh my God, I could do anything. Yeah. So. And that's a liberating feeling, isn't it? It's definitely liberating, but it's also scary. Because you don't know what to do with it. Right.
Starting point is 00:26:32 I feel like, and I said I felt like a jellyfish. Like I'm just kind of like floating around, waiting for something to like pull me in a certain direction. And I'm open to all directions, right? Like I'm in my career. I'm pretty like established in my career. So, you know, it'd have to be a good career opportunity. But yeah. Would love take you somewhere else?
Starting point is 00:26:51 Yeah, absolutely. If it's for the right person, then yes. Definitely. Well, I think, you sound like a woman who, at 29, almost 30, has your ducks in a row and your heart open and you're ready to ventures. And because I think that of you, are you ready to join in and give some advice? We read questions. Yes.
Starting point is 00:27:14 And we want, I'm going to read one question and see what your advice would be. We're all going to give some opinions. Yes, I love giving opinions and I never take anybody's advice. Perfect. Oh, I know something like that, Susan. I ask a billion people. What do you think? What do you think?
Starting point is 00:27:28 And then she does whatever. But I like to hear their thoughts, but you're still going to do what you're going to do. I want to hear. I always say, you know, sometimes you've got to touch the stove, even though you know it's hot. Like, I know this is going to badly, but I'm just going to do it. And are we related in some way? As long as you know, you're going to have the consequences and you know, then good for you. It's a risk.
Starting point is 00:27:53 It's a risk. It's good, sometimes they're good, sometimes they're good, sometimes it's a bad, but you take it. I'm Jamil Hill, host of the Sports and Politics Podcasts Politics. And on the latest episode of Politics, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries joins me for a candid conversation about the state of the Democratic Party. What do Republicans say to you privately that they won't say publicly? Many of them are in fear of their political lives, and that's been part of the challenge. But we continue to say to them, you were elected to defecive. your constituents to stand up for your constituents and there's life after congress and you should
Starting point is 00:28:29 be willing to actually want to be able to look back on your time in the house of representatives knowing that you can keep your head held high because you did the right thing. Donald Trump is gone in three and a half years but their legacy or their failure to stand up to the extremism and the unprecedented assault on America as we know it will be with them forever. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. Starting point is 00:29:35 My dad is a farmer and my mom is a cousin. So, like, it's not like... What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke, but that really was my reality nine years ago. I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different. On stage stood a comedian with a story that no one expected to hear. Well, 22nd of July 2015, a 23-year-old man had killed his family.
Starting point is 00:30:06 And then he came to my house. So what do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? A new podcast called Wisecrack, where stand-up comedy and murder takes center stage. Now. Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A foot washed up a shoe with some bones in it. They had no idea who it was. Most everything was burned up pretty good from the fire that not a whole lot was salvageable.
Starting point is 00:30:41 These are the coldest of cold cases, but everything is about to change. Every case that is a cold case that has DNA. Right now in a backlog will be identified. in our lifetime. A small lab in Texas is cracking the code on DNA. Using new scientific tools, they're finding clues in evidence so tiny you might just miss it. He never thought he was going to get caught. And I just looked at my computer screen. I was just like, ah, gotcha. On America's Crime Lab, we'll learn about victims and survivors. And you'll meet the team behind the scenes at Othrum, the Houston Lab that takes on the most hopeless cases to finally
Starting point is 00:31:20 solve the unsolvable. Listen to America's Crime Lab on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What would you do if one bad decision forced you to choose between a maximum security prison or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth? Unfortunately for Mark Lombardo, this was the choice he faced. He said, you are a number, a New York State number, and we own you. Shock incarceration. Also known as boot camps are short-term, highly regimented correctional programs that mimic military basic training.
Starting point is 00:31:58 These programs aim to provide a shock of prison life, emphasizing strict discipline, physical training, hard labor, and rehabilitation programs. Mark had one chance to complete this program and had no idea of the hell awaiting him the next six months. The first night was so overwhelming, and you don't know who's next to you. and we didn't know what to expect in the morning nobody tells you anything listen to shock incarceration on the iHeart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts right here we go anonymous asks hi ladies and jill i could really use your help i feel like i've been in a sort of winter slump i haven't felt confident in myself in what feels like forever i've tried the things that you work for me getting my hair done buying new clothes etc and nothing's working my mental health is managed
Starting point is 00:32:56 so i know there's nothing new going on there i just feel so blah and it's gotten to the point where i don't really feel like going out and hanging with my friends because i feel so self-conscious and that's really not like me what do you suggest i do to get out of this funk thank you so much i really love your podcast well thank you anonymous what says you jill how does she get out of this funk girl I feel the same way um okay it's winter number one it's winter right I would coming into spring we're coming into spring I would say seek sunshine right like maybe take a vacay if you need to like escape for a weekend yeah escape for a weekend um I would also try something new that you kind of know you're going to be good at already you know what would
Starting point is 00:33:41 that be I don't know like a new hobby or something just to kind of get your confidence up and get like excitement back, right? Like, that's how kind of I fell into baking was I was just like, oh, like, let me try a new hobby. And then I was like kind of good at it. But I kind of knew I was going to be good at it. So, you know, give yourself an easy win. And then-
Starting point is 00:33:59 Wait, I just have to interrupt one second. What do you do with all your bag? We're going to get back to an anonymous question. What do you do with all the bake goods you make? And do you need my address. Yeah, you're not eating it. Yeah, you're not eating yours thin as a rail. What do you do with all this bag goods?
Starting point is 00:34:11 I, okay, so I keep half of a loaf, half of a mini loaf for myself and then I give it all away. Give it away. Do you need our address? Right. No, I don't know if it'll keep that long, but like, I'm pretty sure my coworkers are like, enough. So I want to know when the woman talks, she did her hair, she's mental health is managed, but she feels so self-conscious. What do you think she meant by that?
Starting point is 00:34:37 I mean, everyone hates being perceived, I feel, you know. Self-conscious of what? Yeah, so if your mental health is good. She probably just feels like, you know, this. She probably feels like, oh, I don't think my hair looks great. Oh, she does. She got her hair done. She did all these things.
Starting point is 00:34:55 But when you feel self-conscious, it's like, oh, I did my hair and I still don't feel good. I bought new clothes and it just doesn't feel right. That's what I think. That's what I think she means. Well, yeah, I think like confident. It's all about like the mindset, you know. Like I went on The Bachelor thinking I was like the next greatest thing. And then when I walked in, I was like, oh, my God, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:35:14 but I looked like the best I've ever looked. And so I think you just have to, like, the confidence really comes from within. Fake it till you make it. You took the words right out of my mouth. Always. I mean, that is something I say to my kids all the time when they're nervous. I say, what, you don't think anyone else is nervous?
Starting point is 00:35:31 Walking into that, whatever it is, fake it till you make it. But also, like, don't compare yourself to anybody else. Like, you're only comparing, like, everyone is so different. I feel like when I walk into a room, I'm not comparing myself to anybody. I just, you know, you have to have really a solid ground of, like, who you are. Every one of us are unique. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:52 In our own ways. I think, don't you think, Susan, we've talked about this. Jill, as we've gotten older, when you're younger, I think people tend to morph or try to be pleasing to other people, whether it's men or women or whatever the scenario is. But when you get to be our age, I'm. You don't care as much. You don't care as much. You're just like, this is who I am.
Starting point is 00:36:18 I always say to people, I'm not everyone's cup of tea. You know, I have opinions. I'm strong-willed. But when we're talking about dating, the man that meets me and is not afraid of my independence and my strong personality and my personality, that'll be the right guy for me. I don't worry so much anymore. And it sounds like you've learned that lesson too. Yeah, no, I have a very strong sense of who I am.
Starting point is 00:36:43 And at my core, like, I know I'm a good person. Like, I'm not me and I'm not vindictive. Right. So, yeah, I mean, obviously, oh, my gosh, especially on Paradise. So I walk up on the beach and everyone is like gorgeous, right? Well, you wanted the beginning ones or did you come later? No, I was first sand. So I was like, we know, I was saying.
Starting point is 00:37:03 How long did you stay? How long did you stay, Jill? I stayed until the week of split week because I was, I was loyal to my man. We don't know what split. We don't know what this. We're in the dark here. Oh, okay. So they, you know, they took the girls away from the, from the guys at the beach. And they've seen that.
Starting point is 00:37:19 Yeah. I've seen that. I had an absolute meltdown. It was horrible. You did. Oh, my God. You were on season eight, right? Yeah, I think so. Yeah. I've watched. I mean, wait, that's the one I watched. That's, it was, it was biblical. Like, the meltdown that I had was, oh, my God. I felt so bad. So, but I was loyal to a fault. And my man that's, second I left. He couldn't care if I lived or died. He really did not care. And there were gorgeous men at the place that we were and I ignored them. Because you were being so true
Starting point is 00:37:55 blue. I was trying to be true to myself. But wait a minute. The guy, why did you leave? They make them. Oh, well, no, no, no. Why did I? Everybody pack. No, no, no. Leave. Yeah, I left on my own terms. Like, I went down there and I was like, I stayed loyalty. You. Okay. What happened? And then he told me, he said, and this will always stick with me, but it's like funny now. Yeah. But it's so true. He said, you have a unique personality that I love and enjoy. I just don't think it's personally right for me.
Starting point is 00:38:25 Oh. And I was like, oh. And you're telling me this now when there was these men I could have gotten to know. And the men were, oh, my God, the men there. So you have regrets. Wait, were they good men or not good men? They were. There were definitely a few men that, I mean, there's a few in particular.
Starting point is 00:38:43 that I'm like, I kick myself every day. Like, I'm like, if I only. Did you try to reach out to them after the show or? I'm not going to do that. Oh, come on. Why not? That's the way of the world. Jones, bachelors that were on her season.
Starting point is 00:38:57 Well, I haven't had a chance. I haven't had the chance because like then, you know, like now. Oh, because you were in a relationship. I was in a relationship. So, you know, if I happen to be on the beach and one of them is there, then yes, I will absolutely explore that. But listen, if I ever get. to go to Paradise and you're there. I want
Starting point is 00:39:15 the names of the guys. I'll make sure I'll work it out for you, Jill. I'm a I'm a Yenta. I'm a matchmaker. I will make this happen. Yes. I, please, please, please. Because, oh, my God. Yeah, I was, I was horrible to them too. Oh, my God. Who would you want to see there? Who would you want to say? I can't tell you. I'm not telling you.
Starting point is 00:39:31 No, if you put it out to the universe, it could happen. Girl, I've put it out to the universe. I've manifested. I've planned our life together. Wait, Jill, let me just say, let's pretend. I'm making up a name. Let's pretend there's some guy, John, that you saw on bachelor and you really liked him right yeah but he's a little you know he got burned he didn't get the girl you know he's a little bit insecure now he hears on this podcast which we're going to send to him
Starting point is 00:39:54 that hey do you know that jill would like to meet you you're your steps ahead of the game girl you got to who do you want to see there that was my sales pitch who do you want to say no no because i know because okay the people that i'm going the people that i would be interested in yeah are not interested in going to paradise. Whatever happens happens. But to anonymous. Back to anonymous. I think I love Jill's advice.
Starting point is 00:40:22 Do something new. Do something out of the ordinary. Take a weekend trip. Do something. And like you said, spring is almost here. I mean, it will end. Hold on, girl. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:40:34 I was just going to say, Jill, sometimes in life. You got to love yourself. You got to love yourself. But sometimes we all have, I know, sound like a hallmark card we all have some valleys and we all have some peaks in life and this may just be a valley and you know what i heard something that was so good um and it was enjoy the boring because when something terrible happens or like a tragedy in your life you are yearning for those times when life is boring like enjoy the boring enjoy the time when nothing bad is happening
Starting point is 00:41:06 because life is going to throw stuff at you no matter what you just got to enjoy Quiet moments. Embrace them. Yes. Enjoy it. My favorite saying was enjoy who you are. Yes. Oh, that's a good.
Starting point is 00:41:20 Yeah. I love it. All right, Jill. Okay. Next. Here we go. We want to know all about you, but we found out a little here. Yes.
Starting point is 00:41:28 And we have a little game. Oh, gosh. Okay. So before we wrap today's episode, these are fun, easy questions. And this is so Bachelor Nation can know you even more than they think they do. Okay. How do you unwind after a long day? I read my book.
Starting point is 00:41:46 I read my Kindle. I'm addicted to my books. Okay. I love to read, too. What's a piece of advice that you've always kept with you? Oh, my God. Oh, don't leave with the feeling you're going to be missed. Say it again?
Starting point is 00:42:01 Don't leave with the feeling you're going to be missed. Wow. That's so dark. It's really dark, but that was what my grandfather always used to say. and we were like, oh, we're going to put on his epitaph. Don't leave with the feeling that you're going to be missed. I always leave with the feeling that they're going to miss me. No, I do too.
Starting point is 00:42:22 Well, I know they are. But it's like, you know, you've got to have some humility for sure. And then also I take it as kind of like give it your all. And also it's like we're not as important as we think we are. That I'll be with, yeah. So, yeah, just don't leave it to feel to get me missed. That's interesting. Wow. Okay. What would the title of your autobiography be? Oh, dear. Like the saddest handwritten book ever.
Starting point is 00:42:56 The what? The saddest, what? Handwritten book. That's what I call my journal is the saddest handwritten book. Is it all sad stuff you write? Of course. I only write when I'm sad. Right? Isn't it the truth? It brings a... Wait a minute. No. I write when I'm happy to in my journal. No. It's therapy. It's the way to get it out and release it. Although like on the bat. On the show, on The Bachelor, I was really good at journaling. On Paradise, no, I didn't journal at all. You didn't have time, probably. I didn't have any time. I was exhausted. What was your favorite meal growing up? Oh, my favorite meal growing up, anything with potatoes in it. I love like a shepherd's pie. I know. Oh, I haven't had shepherd's pie in 20,000 years. Do you cook or do you just?
Starting point is 00:43:40 bake. Are you a cook as well? No, I'm actually, okay, I have like a couple signature dishes, right? But if every night, like I just, I pick, you know, I don't really have, I don't, I'm not that great of a cook, but I love to bake. But cooking is like, I just can't. I sound like Kathy. I'm the cook. She's the baker. Yeah, I love to bake. What's something you've always wanted to do, but you haven't done yet. Oh my God. Find a good guy. Yeah, well, that too. My bucket list is very long, but I think like very high up on my list. I want to go to Australia and I want to pet a
Starting point is 00:44:14 wombat. I read that on your thing. You still want to do that. Oh my God. I'm dying to go to Australia and pet a wombat. That's like my life's goal. Listen, she wants to pat a wombat and she loved Twilight. I don't know. We have nothing to comment. Oh, I love Twilight. Oh, I know.
Starting point is 00:44:30 Also, I want to see the Aurora Borealis really bad. Are you going to do it? Yeah, but you know, I got to go I got to go way up north, you know? Oh, boy. Like to Greenland, right? Yeah, I got to go to Greenland.
Starting point is 00:44:44 Yeah. Or like Iceland or something. I got to go. That was my daughter. She wants to do this. Yeah. I really want to do that. And if you were stranded on a deserted island and you could only bring three girls from your season, who would you bring?
Starting point is 00:45:00 Obviously, Rachel Rechia. Of course. That one without saying. Dirk. Kate Gallivan. She worked for the Selling Sunset group. She was on Paradise as well. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:12 She is one of the funniest people I've ever met. You guys would, you guys would. Was she blonde? What color hair did she? Yeah, she was blonde. And she actually stole my man for a second. But I love her anyway. Love her anyways.
Starting point is 00:45:22 And then probably Genevieve. Oh, Genevieve. The Genevieve is really, well, they're all pretty. But she's pretty with long dark hair, right? Long dark hair. She's from Massachusetts, too. Oh, where's she from? She's from Rahobith.
Starting point is 00:45:38 Rahobeth. Holy smokes. Wow. Amazing. Do you have any questions for us or advice for us? Well, no. Of course I have questions for these guys. Okay, so if you were me, what would you do right now with your life? I would start planning that trip to Australia. Okay.
Starting point is 00:45:56 If it were me, I would, I'd be looking for a new job in a new city and a completely new start. Okay. Wow. I know. It's like I was hoping you and so it's a lot of. work but you know but you can do it you're strong you're smart you've got a lot of memories in newport and the first thing i'd be doing is getting the hell out of that apartment too i mean you need a change you need i know and if it's just changing if you're staying there even and getting a new place newport susan is a tiny little place i mean i get it rhode island's beautiful i've been to newport my mother was from providence believe me i know rhode island but um but you've done it
Starting point is 00:46:35 you've done it you know you're single go go work and play in a whole new place. Start planning it, baby. Okay. Do it. You're the only one that's going to make this happen. I know, I know. And, you know, I don't think, I think you know, not to wait.
Starting point is 00:46:52 You know, I can't sit around waiting for. If you need somebody to go with you and you don't want to go by yourself, Kathy and I like to travel. Yeah, and I want to go to Australia. I'm not going to pat a wombat, but I'll get a stuffed, I'll get a stuffed, what's those, I'll get a stuffed koala bear, though. But then you'll just, you'll jump out of a plane, but you're not going to pet a mammal? I'll pet it.
Starting point is 00:47:09 I mean, all right. I'll pat it. You do. You make a good point. Okay. All right. Well, this has been so much fun. Yeah, this is fun. I like it. And to know her. We've got to see her on the side. I know. I'd love to. And I have a medium that I used to see her mother for 40 years. She passed and her daughter took over. She works with the police. She works.
