Listen to next question with me, Katie Couric on the Iheart radio app, Apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Hello, America's sweetheart Johnny Knoxville here. I want to tell you about my new true crime podcast, Crimeless, Hillbilly Heist, from Smartless Media, Campside Media, and Big Money Players.
Starting point is 00:01:17 It's a wild tale about a gang of high-functioning nitwits who somehow pulled off America's third largest cash heist. Kind of like Robin Hood, except for the part where he steals from rich and gives for poor. I'm not that generous. It's a damn near inspiring true story for anyone out there who's ever shot for the moon, then just totally
Starting point is 00:01:40 muffed up the landing. They stole $17 million and had not bought a ticket to help him escape. So we're saying like, oh God, what do we do? What do we do? That was dumb. People do not follow my example. Listen to Crimless, Hillbilly
Starting point is 00:01:56 Heist on the IHeart Radio app. Apple Podcasts are wherever you get your podcast. I live below a cult leader and I fear I've angered her. Wait a minute, Sophia. How do you know she's a cult leader? Well, Dakota, luckily it's I'm not afraid of a scary story week on the okay story time podcast.
Starting point is 00:02:13 So we'll find out soon. This person writes, my neighbor has been blasting music every day and doing dirt rituals. And now my ceiling is collapsing. I try to report them, but things keep getting weirder. I think they might be part of a cult. Hold up. A real life cult? And what is a dirt ritual?
Starting point is 00:02:30 No clue, Dakota. Find out how it ends. Listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Cal Penn. And on my new podcast, here we go again. We'll take today's trends and headlines and ask, why does history keep repeating itself? Each week, I'm calling up my friends, like Bill Nye, Lily Singh, and Pete Buttigieg, to talk about everything from the space race to movie remakes to psychedelics. Put another way, are you?
Starting point is 00:02:59 you high. Look, the world can seem pretty scary right now. But my goal here is for you to listen and feel a little better about the future. Listen and subscribe to here we go again with Cal Penn on the IHeart Radio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back to Bachelor Happy Hour's Golden Hour. Kathy's here with me. And where are we, Cass?
Starting point is 00:03:26 We are live tonight at the. Golden Bachelor, Women Tell All. What an evening. What a night. These women are gorgeous. I can't even. Sharing their emotions. I mean, you have to tune in.
Starting point is 00:03:39 There was so much tonight. It is so much. And they look beautiful, seeing Mel. I just got to meet them for the first time tonight. It's amazing. Okay. With Jarvins in the teasing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:52 This has been a great night. But let's get into it right now. Let's get into these fabulous women have. Here we go. Welcome to Golden Hour. I'm so happy to be here. How are you? I am good.
Starting point is 00:04:05 Tell us about how did you feel seeing all the women again? Oh God, that's a highlight because I miss these ladies so much and, you know, just waiting and waiting. Yesterday it was just, come on, it was like torture. And we were just like, we were like teenagers. We know exactly how you feel like the best you shared. You shared so much emotion. And how did that feel? How did that feel?
Starting point is 00:04:33 And seen Mel. Tell us all right. Oh, my God. Well, I was so excited to see Mel again. I mean, I have processed and worked through everything. And also watching the episodes, you know, it gives you a lot of clarity, right? And so I saw very clear that his heart was elsewhere and he had stronger connections. And, you know, that makes it a little easier because you see it, right?
Starting point is 00:04:56 It gives you a reason. Like you had, I saw you kept asking, was it because of this? Because you do wonder. And, you know, I kept wondering that. And because I hadn't seen those episodes. So I did, you know, we worked through all the feelings, right? It's such a roller coaster ride. But seeing him was great and he's lovely.
Starting point is 00:05:17 And it was just fun. I just really enjoyed myself. How do you feel about your dating life going forward? Well, I'm excited because. I really meant it that he kickstarted my heart again. I love that. That was the back. Because, you know, I had given up for so long.
Starting point is 00:05:34 And just to know that, oh, my gosh, I can feel this again. And also having confidence again and knowing, wow, you know, I made it to the final three. Yeah. And that's big. That's huge. I think everything you say, Debbie, resonates with women of our age. The fact not having children, not having been married. And the fact that you are confident, I love that you spoke to women about that.
Starting point is 00:06:03 That's exactly where we came from. And I also admired you for watching and dealing with the Coles what you didn't know because you weren't every there, every second. And she's come a long way. Yes. I've talked to her myself and everything's great. But I really respect how you handled it. I was worried that it came off too harsh.
Starting point is 00:06:26 and I wasn't even going to say anything until she started talking about women empowerment and all that kind of thing. And I thought, well, that doesn't really match up with what she said about your season. And also, I did feel dismissed by her. She dismissed my connection with Mel and other women and her comment, you know, when she went home. It just didn't hit right. And I just thought, gosh, I love this woman. Yeah. And what are you doing? And I just didn't understand. it and I was really disappointed in her and I was literally I defended her every day to someone and until I saw that and I feel better that you got it out like you know yeah but I also feel bad well you know because she got very tearyat and she was pretty upset with me and
Starting point is 00:07:18 I and I get it and but you know it's my truth yes it is you got a big of truth she hurt me and I just said, I just want her to know that if these are the things you want to accomplish in life, this is not the way to go about it. And I hope that she heard that. Yeah. I love that you're doing that, again, for other women. I just want to know what, what's next for you, Debbie? I don't know. I mean, hopefully I will find my person. I'm just so ready to, you know, just do life with someone. And you love yourself again. You feel more empowered. I have been ready. I have been ready. It's just that, you know, every guy that I was set up with, either through matchmaking agencies or apps or whatever, it was always ending
Starting point is 00:08:07 in disappointment or frustration. It's too a lot of us. I know. But doesn't it feel great to have hope and know that you love yourself? And again, I have to congratulate you on the fact that you are giving women, golden women, hope and letting them know that life. You know that life is not over and that is a gift you are giving to all the women. So you know what? It's a hard time. That means a lot to me. It does. And being in love with yourself. Whether you find a true love or not. Being okay with yourself. That is the most important thing. And we took that off our show. Yeah. And I love you. Well, we love you and we thank you for stopping by. It's been fun. You are you. You're in our lives. You're in our lives. Welcome to the family and you represented
Starting point is 00:08:55 I really well. I really appreciate that. Thank you. Nothing like class. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. You too. Welcome to Golden Hour, Nicole.
Starting point is 00:09:05 We're glad to have you. Thank you so much for having me both of you. We have so many questions ask you. You seem like you had a bit of a tough time today. Can you tell us about it? Yes, it was challenging, but I do think it was healthy. I appreciated all of the beautiful friends that I have because they are are all my friends expressing themselves.
Starting point is 00:09:27 It was valid. I listened and, you know, I told them that I wanted to do better. And so it was fine. I think the only time I got a little bit disregulated was when after four different women said things that there was a fifth and I just needed a breath in between and that kind of, but I do know how to regulate my own nervous system.
Starting point is 00:09:49 So I know how to get myself back to balance and back to center. So I just did some breathing and I was was fine. But did it help you understand what other people saw? You know. Thank you. We've got all our hands. I know. Thank you. I love you guys so much. Yes, of course. Yes, of course it was helpful, of course. And also, I had to watch myself. So it was a little horrifying at times. So that's very cringe. I don't even like the sound of my voice. I'd like to have to hear it, let alone. So how do you feel now, how do you feel now some of the things you said, how are you feeling now about
Starting point is 00:10:25 those things you said. And do you feel like you're a different person now than you were back then? Yeah, I think I've even grown. I mean, I'm really into a personal growth journey and we all have moments when in front of, especially in front of a camera where we're like, oh, you know, I sort of forgot that it was there sometimes. But yes, I feel like I have done some soul searching since leaving the show. Any regrets? You know, I regret in general is a kind of, I think it's in some ways pointless but learning from it is is is the way to go so yeah so that and I have to ask you how was it seen thank you the women again which it sounds great how was it seen Mel again oh wow you chuck got choked up yeah I got choked up yeah that was surprised I really was well I had a lot
Starting point is 00:11:13 of feelings for Mel so you know it was it was hard to see him I've missed him do you feel like you have the closure that you need yes absolutely you know I think that closure is an inside job. It's a, it's, it's, I don't ask, it's a personal thing. It's a personal thing. I don't need it. I won't get it from anybody but myself. Right. And so I have absolute closure. Yes, yes. Real quick one, and I hope you find this. Do you want to tell America that we're better looking than what you thought? Yeah. I want to say one thing to America. When I saw both of you come in to the National Mansion, I was like, they're dropped dead gorgeous. Wait a minute. We'll take it. We'll take it. Thank you. I really did.
Starting point is 00:11:54 You know, the way you guys are in person is, is unbelievable on your beauty inside. Well, I love that you mentioned about women's empowerment because that's being part of this family. Yes. We feel like that's what it's all about. It is what it's all about. And I wish we could have talked about that more. And I wish that as a collective, our cast could have focused a bit more on that instead of lemon bars. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:16 Because that's, yeah. Taking the credit, though. I know, I know, I know. But we did find out she had 70%. I'm the majority. Aside from cookbooks. But I've been spoofing myself. I'm good at being self-deprecating and making fun of myself.
Starting point is 00:12:33 I'm absolutely fine with that. What is your plan? Yeah. What is your future plan besides the cookbook, besides making lemon bars for us? What's your next plan? You know, I don't have a plan yet. I think I was waiting for the show to wrap or my part. To see how I was feeling, to see what I want to do.
Starting point is 00:12:50 And, you know, of course, I would, I really had a wonderful time. I was just going to say, in a word, tell me. Time of my life. Time of my life on the show. More than the word. It's more than a word. Time in my life. I'm sorry, I'm not a one word girl.
Starting point is 00:13:08 So do you, but do you feel like you are a different person now? Well, every experience shapes us and helps us grow. I'm a different person than I was before the show. I'm a different person that I was. since the show. How do you feel different now? I feel different now because I've learned so much. And I, you know, I learned much about yourself.
Starting point is 00:13:30 About myself. Are you dating? Not yet. Well, I want you, we love meeting you. We love your honesty. We love hearing about your growth journey. We want you to come back on the podcast another time. I would love that.
Starting point is 00:13:45 We want to hear all about what's growing in your life. Thank you for stopping by today. Thank you guys so much. I love you both. We love you too. glad we chatted. I'm glad we did too. And we're glad that you saw, we're glad that you saw that we could be beautiful. Yeah, we're not that bad.
Starting point is 00:13:58 We're not that bad. Thanks for Zabur-bye. Thank you guys so much. It was wonderful. Give me a hug. You guys are so wonderful. Give a hug. Love you.
Starting point is 00:14:07 Friends forever. Love you too. And I think I want this whole outfit. Oh yeah. We often think we know our type and dating. Tall, funny, a certain job, but the research shows we're usually not the best predictors of who will actually make us the happiest.
Starting point is 00:14:26 As we often say on the Happiness Lab, our minds lie to us about all kinds of stuff, and that definitely includes the kinds of things we need to be happy in a relationship. That's why it helps to stay curious. On Bumble, features like shared interests and prompts make it easy to notice right on someone's profile initial sparks of compatibility,
Starting point is 00:14:45 like a shared love of cooking, or the same nostalgic TV shows. Shared interests and prompts let you showcase your personality right on your profile and connect with people who get your vibe. And with photo and ID verification, you can feel confident the person you're talking to is real, so you can date with a bit more confidence. When you treat dating as exploration, instead of sticking to a rigid type, you open yourself up to happier, more meaningful connections.
Starting point is 00:15:12 So maybe your type isn't tall, dark, and mysterious. Maybe it's Love's podcast as much as you do. Stay open, stay curious, and let yourself be surprised. Download Bumble today. On the latest episode of Next Question with me, Katie Couric, I sat down with Bernie Sanders, who is 84 years old, has spent 34 years in Congress, and he can still pack a rally with people a quarter of his age.
Starting point is 00:15:37 Denver, 34,000 people come out. Salt Lake City, 20,000 people out. You know, huge turnouts. People are really dissatisfied about the status quo. His fighting oligarchy tour with AOC and other young progressives has become a movement, but is his message too far to the left? Well, he certainly doesn't think so. Is that sound like a radical idea, Katie?
Starting point is 00:16:00 Is that too far left for you? Okay, okay. I get your point, Bernie. We talk about the billionaire class, the cost of living, and of course the government shutdown, not to mention the current state of the Democratic Party. To me, the failure of the Democratic Party. party has been an unwillingness to recognize the real issue. Open your free IHeartRadio app.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Search next question with Katie Couric and listen now. Here we go. Hey, I'm Cal Penn, and on my new podcast, Here We Go again. We'll take today's trends and headlines and ask, why does history keep repeating itself? You may know me as the second hottest actor from the Harold and Kumar movies, but I'm also an author, a White House staffer, and as I, of like 15 seconds ago, a podcast host. Along the way, I've made some friends who are experts in science, politics, and pop culture. And each week, one of them will be joining me to answer my burning questions.
Starting point is 00:17:00 Like, are we heading towards another financial crash like in 08? Is non-monogamy back in style? And how come there's never a gate ready for your flight when it lands like two minutes early? We've got guests like Pete Buttigieg, Stacey Abrams, Lili Singh, and Bill Nye. When you start weaponizing outer space, things can potentially go really wrong. Look, the world can seem pretty scary right now, because it is. But my goal here is for you to listen and feel a little better about the future. Listen and subscribe to Here We Go Again with Cal Penn on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:17:41 All I know is what I've been told, and that's a half-truth is a whole lot. For almost a decade, the murder of an 18-year-old girl from a small town in Graves County, Kentucky, went unsolved until a local homemaker, a journalist, and a handful of girls came forward with a story. I'm telling you, we know Quincy Kilder, we know. A story that law enforcement used to convict six people and that got the citizen investigator on national TV. Through sheer persistence and nerve, this Kentucky housewife helped give justice to Jessica Curran. My name is Maggie Freeling. I'm a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, producer, and I wouldn't be here if the truth were that easy to find. I did not know her and I did not kill her, or rape or burn or any of that other stuff that y'all said.
Starting point is 00:18:36 They literally made me say that I took a match and struck and threw it on her. They made me say that I poured gas on her. From Lava for Good, this is Graves County, a show about just how far our legal system will go in order to find someone to blame. America, y'all better work the hell up. Bad things happens to good people in small towns. Listen to Graves County in the Bone Valley feed on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And to binge the entire season at free,
Starting point is 00:19:14 subscribe to Lava for Good Plus on Apple Podcasts. Hey, I'm Nora Jones, and I love playing music with people so much that my podcast called Playing Along is back. I sit down with musicians from all musical styles to play songs together in an intimate setting. Every episode's a little bit different, but it all involves music and conversation with some of my favorite musicians. Over the past two seasons, I've had special guests like Dave Grohl, Leveh, Rufus Wainwright, Remy Wolf, Mark Rebier, Mavis Staples, really too many to name.
Starting point is 00:20:01 And there's still so much more to come in this new season, including the powerful psychedelic duo Black Pumas, my old pal and long-time songwriting friend Jesse Harris and the legendary Lucinda Williams. Lizzie and Nora Jones is playing along on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Carol, welcome to Golden Hour. Thanks so much for coming. Thank you, I'm happy to have you. Tell me. Tell us, we want to hear how much. was seeing all the women again for the first time. Fantastic. Isn't it amazing?
Starting point is 00:20:41 It was unbelievable. I missed him. And we had, I'm sure you had the same thing. Your family, you're all together, yeah. Really? I know. And people say, oh, were they? No.
Starting point is 00:20:52 They actually were. Yeah. These girls are going to be, can I say girls? Women, girls. We're female. We're girls. Female, okay. Whatever.
Starting point is 00:21:01 I'm not politically correct. I'm sorry. Anyway, so I had the best time in my life with them. I really did. I have some friendships that I'll have for the rest of my life. First of all, I find you very amusing. Especially the blue bloopers. I don't know where that even came from.
Starting point is 00:21:16 Some old Anglican speech, I guess. I don't know. What about saying something to Mel, how that makes you feel addressing him? Tonight? Yeah. We want to know. Good. No, I just, did you hear what I said to him?
Starting point is 00:21:31 Because no. Okay, so when I, I don't know if you said, the night I talked to you. you. Right? So I went and I said, oh, you know, you've got to remember. You know, he's nice looking. Very handsome. I said it three times. That was, and Jesse said about twice more people. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:51 But you got to remember, everyone's telling me about him. Yeah. So I know all these things about him already. Plus, I stopped him before I even came on the show. So I know everything. So then I go there. I'm like, what do I talk about? But I could ask him if you snore.
Starting point is 00:22:04 That's why I said tonight. I could ask. Is there's a little hard for us to hear where we were sitting, but I want to ask you, Carol, how hard was it I value that you were able to self-eliminate? Tell me how that felt to do it. You talked a little bit about it tonight, but facing Mel and talking about that. Well, you know, it wasn't an easy decision at all. And, you know, there's a lot that led up to it to tell you the truth. Tell us.
Starting point is 00:22:29 Yeah. Well, earlier that day, I had something in my heart. I needed to call my dad. So my dad's 89 and I, you know, how, he's not, he's active, he walks, I just, he's 89. No, he's in better shape than all his kids, okay? He still works for my brothers and whatever. So, but something, I just missed him. I really missed him.
Starting point is 00:22:48 So I was a little emotional before that day. And then I already had the roast going into that night. And then my roommates got eliminated. So I was by myself in that room. And I thought to myself tomorrow, if I don't get that single date, that's going to tell me a lot. A one-on-one. If I don't get that one-on-one, I'm the only one who hasn't had that extra time with them. And how did that feel tonight when you address that with Mel?
Starting point is 00:23:13 I guess, okay. He didn't really, you know, he didn't really give me anything about it. But that's okay. No, so it's like, you know, hence the self-eimination. And there it is. There it is. So the best thing for you, it sounds like, was the friendships that you made with the women coming out of this? Yes.
Starting point is 00:23:32 And don't get me wrong, Mel, I was very attractive. I liked him. He's a good-looking man. No, I really did like him. We know you thought he was nice-looking. Yeah, no, we know that. Wait, Susan? Susan?
Starting point is 00:23:40 We know that. Do you think Carol thought Mel was good-looking? Just a little. No, he's totally my type. And I'm very proud that you went in for the kiss. I know you were struggling with that when we talked. Because a kiss means a lot to me. And then you got to remember, I'm very traditional.
Starting point is 00:23:56 So when all these other women are going for him, it made me retrieve a little bit. It may be like, like, oh, you know. And of course, the premise of the show, you got to go for it, right? So I knew, I thought the memo. I know what you're supposed to do. It had to rewire my brain, okay? Did you feel different? I'm sorry, Kathy.
Starting point is 00:24:15 Did you feel differently after you kissed them? Like more comfortable, more? Not after the first kiss, but after the second kiss. Jeez, we're counting kisses here. Yeah, no, I know. It was good. Unreal. I should have done more.
Starting point is 00:24:29 I should have taken Nicole's lead. Really? You know what? So what's on your future plate? What do you, what do you think your future is going to hold for you? Okay, well, you know what? This actually helped me define what I really want a man. Oh, do tell.
Starting point is 00:24:44 You've got about 10 seconds. 10 seconds. List it. What do you want? So one thing about Mel, he's very engaging. I know, believe it or not, he really is. When you're talking to him, he's looking at you. He's paying attention.
Starting point is 00:24:56 I don't like that. And now, you know, I haven't had that before. Okay, so here it is. I want that. All you eligible men out there who are engaging. Very available. Carol is available. However, Carol, the line forms behind me.
Starting point is 00:25:09 Not always. And Carol, we'd love to have you back on our podcast. Thank you. Thanks for joining us. And thank you. I love you. And you look beautiful tonight. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:25:16 And both of you do, too. Thanks. Thanks for joining you a little bit. Okay, see you. Okay, see you. Okay, bye. Gary, welcome to Golden Hour. We are so glad you're here.
Starting point is 00:25:26 We've got so many questions. First of all, stunning. That name dress. Thank you. Do you feel good? I feel amazing. First of all, let me say you two look beautiful.
Starting point is 00:25:34 Oh, thank you. The collar. I love color. Thank you. Love color. Okay, so tell us what is the, what would have the, like, seeing the women tonight? What's the best thing about tonight for you? Oh, the women.
Starting point is 00:25:44 The women. It was like. Is Mel just a distant second? Is he involved at all? He really isn't. But really, I mean, when we saw each other, we screamed on the boat. On the bus. Yes.
Starting point is 00:25:54 Scream. I was going to say, what boat we were on. I know. I feel like a boat. I felt like a, I mean, it was just so, I could not wait to see them. I, being, it's your family now. You're all family now, right? They're my sisters.
Starting point is 00:26:07 Yeah. They are my sisters. Did anything not happen tonight that you wished it or spoke about or everything was good? Everything was good because at the end I was able to talk to Mel. I didn't like, I wish I would have more in depth with my question when he asked me if I had a question for him. So what did you talk about? What was it that you said? I said to him, thank you.
Starting point is 00:26:27 Thank you for really opening me up Let me feel those butterflies Everybody feels grateful for this Oh I'm so grateful That little tingle That little tingle Haven't felt that in a while So is that the biggest change in your life
Starting point is 00:26:41 That you feel like you're open Tell us what's the biggest change From being on the show That I'm open I'm really ready today It's my time It is so my time You have talked so much about it
Starting point is 00:26:51 Being your time in the 18 years And you've taken care of everyone In the dog I have too careful That's, by the way, they need a home if you're... No. The divvist would somebody take... He's not coming back until Monday.
Starting point is 00:27:01 No, all right. Well, so where do you see yourself? What's in your future? We're asking everyone... What happens next? What's... Dave? I'm ready to date.
Starting point is 00:27:09 So, will you just put yourself out there or hope for the DMs to come in? Well, I don't even... First, I don't know what they are. But... I don't know what they are. Direct message. That's what they said.
Starting point is 00:27:20 I think I'm... When I met my husband, I put in existence. I prayed for... I said, I am ready to marry a day. doctor. And that's what I want, God. That's all you got to say, Kathy. That's what I tell you what wrong, Susan. You have not. I'm taking notes. Please send me a doctor. You have not because you've asked not. Ask them what you want. Be very specific. Okay. Intentional. Very, I want handsome, good in bed, kiss her. That's very important. I want it all. I'm telling you. And I have it all. Well, can I just tell you,
Starting point is 00:27:50 you are beautiful and you should have it all. So, you know, there's that. Were you surprised by anything that any of the other ladies talked about tonight. Did anything surprise you? No, I guess I, no. Was there any stress in the house that we didn't know about? Is you all seem very, which we were too, very close. Was there any kind of stress? Not, I didn't see any stress for me. It was part of the lemon bars. I want to know. Yeah. Did you do anything with those lemon bars? Were you part of the 30%? Because we know Nicole at 70%. Where were you in the 30%? Well, I was like really the 10%. Okay. But my thing was, and I even said it, I didn't get to taste them. That was my, you did need any? Because I never got any.
Starting point is 00:28:28 Let me guess you're another one who doesn't need sugar. No, I really love sugar and french fries. Good, good, good, good, good, good. She's us. Yes, but I didn't get a chance. And my kids, when they saw me in the kitchen, they're like, you don't even bake, Mom. What are you doing in that kitchen? That was a thing. Going home to them. Oh, my God. That was difficult. You know, going back, when I left, it was. It was, but I didn't say anything to them about giving the first impression rose.
Starting point is 00:28:55 So we sat there that Wednesday. My daughter was getting married that Saturday. So we're having a small... Yeah, a lot going on. Small watch party because we're having a big watch party on October 4th. But my hometown, Newport, Rhode Island, they had a big watch party. Wait, you're from Newport, Rhode Island?
Starting point is 00:29:11 I am. I'm from Boston, Massachusetts. I knew I loved you. Are you a Patriots fan? Hell yeah. Okay. I mean, a Tom Brady fan. I know, right?
Starting point is 00:29:20 But, you know, he's gone. I mean, he's trying to learn how to speak on... Moving right along. I know. We'll talk. We'll talk. But big, big patriots, Boston Celtics, huge. Yeah. Bruins. Bruins. Red So, so in your future besides rooting for the, all the Boston teams. And putting yourself out there. Put yourself out there. You're available. Can you give us in one word your experience on the show? Magical. Magical. And one word about tonight. Not magical. Wisdom. Wisdom. Wisdom. Wisdom. Wisdom. Wisdom. Wisdom. Well,
Starting point is 00:29:54 Well, we thank you for bringing your beauty, your wisdom, and your fabulous smile to us tonight. And that hair. And we loved having you. And thank you. We're so glad you stopped by to chat with us tonight. And we'll see more of us. You will see more of us. You will.
Starting point is 00:30:09 You will. Okay, friends, real talk. You are worth the wait. We've all been there, giving our energy to connections that didn't honor ours and watching friends do the same. Start your love story on Bumble. On the latest episode of Next Question with me, Katie Couric, I sat down with Bernie Sanders, who is 84 years old, has spent 34 years in Congress,
Starting point is 00:31:28 and he can still pack a rally with people a quarter of his age. Denver 34,000 people come out. Salt Lake City, 20,000 people are, you know, huge turnouts. People are really dissatisfied about the status quo. His fighting oligarchy tour with AOC and other young progressives has become a movement, but is his message too far to the left? while he certainly doesn't think so. Is that like a radical idea, Katie?
Starting point is 00:31:55 Is that too far left for you? Okay, okay. I get your point, Bernie. We talk about the billionaire class, the cost of living, and of course, the government shut down, not to mention the current state of the Democratic Party. To me, the failure of the Democratic Party has been an unwillingness to recognize the real issue.
Starting point is 00:32:17 Open your free I-Heart Radio app. Search next question with Katie Couric and listen now. Here we go. Hey, I'm Cal Penn, and on my new podcast, Here We Go Again, we'll take today's trends and headlines and ask, why does history keep repeating itself? You may know me as the second hottest actor
Starting point is 00:32:37 from the Harold and Kumar movies, but I'm also an author, a White House staffer, and as of like 15 seconds ago, a podcast host. Along the way, I've made some friends who are experts in science, politics, and pop culture. Each week, one of them will be joining me to answer my burning questions. Like, are we heading towards another financial crash like in 08? Is non-monogamy back in style?
Starting point is 00:33:01 And how come there's never a gate ready for your flight when it lands like two minutes early? We've got guests like Pete Buttigieg, Stacey Abrams, Lily Singh, and Bill Nye. All I know is what I've been told, and that's a half-truth is a whole lie. For almost a decade, the murder of an 18-year-old girl from a small town in Graves County, Kentucky, went unsolved.
Starting point is 00:33:50 until a local homemaker, a journalist, and a handful of girls came forward with a story. I'm telling you, we know Quincy Kilder, we know. A story that law enforcement used to convict six people, and that got the citizen investigator on national TV. Through sheer persistence and nerve, this Kentucky housewife helped give justice to Jessica Curran. My name is Maggie Freeling. I'm a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, producer, And I wouldn't be here if the truth were that easy to find.
Starting point is 00:34:26 I did not know her and I did not kill her, or rape or burn or any of that other stuff that y'all said. They literally made me say that I took a match and struck and threw it on her. And to binge the entire season ad-free, subscribe to Lava for Good Plus on Apple Podcasts.
Starting point is 00:35:19 Hey, I'm Nora Jones, and I love playing music with people so much that my podcast called Playing Along is back. And there's still so much more to come in this new season, including the powerful psychedelic duo Black Pumas, my old pal and longtime songwriting friend, Jesse Harris, and the legendary Lucinda Williams. Listen to Nora Jones is playing along on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to our golden hour.
Starting point is 00:36:27 Am I going to be this beautiful someday? Oh, you are this beautiful right now. First of all, let me just say this dress on you is stunning. Oh, thank you. But we have so many questions in so little time. Okay, go forward. How emotional were you tonight? Oh my gosh.
Starting point is 00:36:41 Were you surprised? They were right in front of us. And they said to me, don't tell our mother. Don't tell our mother. My grandmother, my... When I saw him, I couldn't believe it. My son, my two granddaughters, my daughter, they had you facing the screen.
Starting point is 00:36:56 And then he goes, well, look back, there's a couple people. I look back and I just didn't see anything. They were right in front of us. They're like, a couple of people. Okay. We have questions. I mean, I'm glad your family's here,
Starting point is 00:37:07 but I want to know how was it facing Mel tonight? Because we really thought, we were so shocked when you went home. And I'm sure you were as well. So talk to us a little bit about that. that. Yeah. Like a princess. Thank you so much. It was beautiful. And your crime, I mean, we, you really, it was a princess date. You are a princess. So tell me how to. So that first date was amazing. You know, I felt the chemistry. He's the man, like he's the man. This is it, you know. And he has that masculine look. He's funny. He does play outside of the lines a little bit.
Starting point is 00:37:41 Yeah. Yeah. You know. So do you. Oh, I do a little bit. Yeah. So was it hard to see him tonight? Yeah. I was happy to see him. He looked really good, handsome as could be. He looked amazing. Your hugged when you hugged him. You could just feel the emotion. We felt that. You made a statement that I want to be friends. Oh, yes, definitely. And that wouldn't bother you that he's with somebody else. No. No. Yeah, I would like to remain friends. Yeah. Why not? Yeah. And if he has somebody, I think it is, yeah, she's amazing. How did you feel seeing all the other women? Oh, it was great. They're my sisters.
Starting point is 00:38:20 Oh, my God. Do you love it? Did you ever think, because did you ever think you would make the friendships? Never mind dating a handsome man. Oh, my God. Did you ever think the friendships? Your expectations coming in. How did that?
Starting point is 00:38:34 Oh, my God. Yeah. No. It was way different than what you thought. Because, you know, I've been working, watching my mom. I don't have time for friendship with a woman or a man. And friends, you know, are great. I've got some, but it's hard to see him.
Starting point is 00:38:49 So you went pretty far, and when he didn't call your name, how did it feel? It hurt. It really did. It was a blow. Watching you in that car hurt. Well, and I got in that cold ice plunge. Oh, God, that hurt too. I was going downhill, man.
Starting point is 00:39:05 I was like, diving to that ice was like, wow. I was sitting literally on his feet. Yeah, no, we could tell. We felt your pain. You're like, I can't do it. Because he's so big, and he was just like here. I got in and it was like... So what did you...
Starting point is 00:39:21 Sorry, what did you learn about yourself in this journey? What did you learn? A lot. I learned that, you know, you can have that passion for a man and you need to go for it. If you're, if you see a man that you've got some feelings for, go for it. Don't sit back. Let him know. It doesn't always work out.
Starting point is 00:39:42 Right. It doesn't. But hey, this was a chance once in a lifetime chance. Do you feel a little stronger about yourself? Yeah. I feel like, yeah. Are you ready to date? Yeah, I'm ready to date.
Starting point is 00:39:54 We can make money, cats. I know. Let's go, man. I'm going to be a yenta. Hey, I'll go with you guys. You're going to attract all the dues. You got to get behind Kathy. You just have to get behind Kathy.
Starting point is 00:40:04 Okay, well, you're first, then the second. She's got a guy. What are you talking about? She's got a guy. Oh, that's right. You do have a guy. I saw you. Tell me in a word, if you can, your experience.
Starting point is 00:40:15 How would you describe it? Wow. Incredible. Incredible. So the pain is gone now. It's holiness. It really is holiness. That's wonderful. Do you feel like your life is going to be different going forward? What about your life is going to be different? Yeah, it's going to be different. What? Tell us. I want to smile like you girls. You do smile like us. You're beautiful. I do. And you know, I just want to get on an adventure. I want to continue this adventure. And I think now I'm going to be strong as a woman because I know that there's so many people out there that are... What do you want to say to those people out there? What is your message to those women out there? Oh, my message is get out and show yourself.
Starting point is 00:40:58 It's not even always about finding a man. No. It's just being good to yourself and go do what you want to, what makes you happy. Dress up. Be a princess. You love that. You are the princess, honey. And can I just say, you didn't make him, he did not make you the princess. You are one. So with that, happy thought. You're beautiful. Thank you. So are you.
Starting point is 00:41:20 We love you. Thank you so much for joining us on the podcast. And thank you for coming in. We're going to talk more. Mel, welcome, welcome to Golden Hour. We're so glad that you stopped by to chat with us. Thanks for having me. I really appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:41:34 Are you nervous? Right now? With us? A little bit. Yeah. Come on with us. We love you. Come on.
Starting point is 00:41:39 Listen, I just met you. and this is all about you except for one thing. Do you have any older guys you can fix me up with? We can take care of that. Okay. Now we're going to get it on. Do tonight for us. Tell us.
Starting point is 00:41:54 Um. We only have five minutes here now. I thought of a million words, right? Yeah, no, but it was a great experience. Yeah. How was it seeing all the women again? Great. Because, you know, obviously I know them, you know, and I got to know them.
Starting point is 00:42:15 And seeing them again, it's like a reunion. You got to know because you're in your own sorority, fraternity, sort of speak, right? Yeah, so that's your group, right? You're your season one, I'm season two. And, you know, we're all together. Our group is together. Now I'm part of your group, too. Welcome to the family.
Starting point is 00:42:33 So you know, like you're born into you can't get out of it, right? We're not letting you. What was the hardest part for you tonight? The hardest part was, you know, just, you know, reliving some of the... Watching it back. Yeah, and then, you know, when some of the women that you let go and you really didn't have a chance to talk to them and explain or talk to them, you know, to sort of, you know, soothe each other's feelings. Yeah, and Debbie was asking you, is it because I... Yeah, and it wasn't.
Starting point is 00:43:04 Right. And I loved how you... It was not even close. I didn't think of those things. Yeah. That's not even, never came into my mind. That's good. Ever.
Starting point is 00:43:12 Was the journey a lot different than you thought it would be coming on? How so? I didn't, you know, it's just very unique. And it's like when you're in, it's 100 miles an hour. And, you know, it's intense. But you're also learning and there's a lot of clarity when you're doing it and you just sort things out quickly. You don't want to judge things.
Starting point is 00:43:34 And you don't want to make the wrong choice. True. And I think, you know, based on my own personality, I made the right choices along the way. Oh, good. That's a great feeling. I love that. Remember when we first met and I said to, the Hulu event? Yes, at the Hulu event. And I said, be true to yourself. Yes. Stop, breathe and just focus on you and what makes you tick and what makes you feel. And I think you accomplished it. And everybody who's been on the show, I took the advice because you went through it. Yeah. And you know exactly what I'm
Starting point is 00:44:04 talking about. And I was telling my son, I, I go, take advice from everyone. By the way, your sons are adorable. Oh, thank you. I love it. One's a tattletail and the other ones. Yeah, yeah. And Susan, by the way, had a canary that on your promo when the show started,
Starting point is 00:44:21 you had dirty dishes in the sink. It drove her over the edge. Oh, you know, that's my son, Andre's problem. Is he the one that talks? Yeah, but I quieted him down a little bit. I tempt him down, you know. So, Mel, what is the, I want to know, What is the biggest thing you learned about yourself on this journey?
Starting point is 00:44:41 What is something you learned? You know, that everybody talks about being vulnerable, but a lot of introspection. Because you meet, you know, I've met 23 women who have their own stories. And you sort of evaluate your story, you know, against their story. Not against what, but not against, but you're sharing. Yeah, you're sharing. You're like, oh, I have this story, you have that story. You know, what are the similarities?
Starting point is 00:45:04 and, you know, where are, do they mean? How does that fit? Yeah. Yeah. And you find out that, you know, there's a lot of humanity there. And people like, love to share their stories and you pull things from it. And I learned all that along the way. And I'm always open to stories and, you know, in finding out about people. So that was really something special for me.
Starting point is 00:45:25 How do you like the clouds that you walk on? The marshmallows. The marshmallows. Sorry. They gave you so much trouble about the roads. Everybody's going to be wearing them. Uffos. They're the best.
Starting point is 00:45:36 You have? The cloud? No, they're called Ufo. Oh, Oofos. Oh, yeah. My grandson for Christmas, there were $100 some dollars for a flip-flop slide. Yeah, but they're recovery. The recovery shoes.
Starting point is 00:45:48 So if you have, if you work out or you have a bad back or, you know, you fatigue after work, you just make it better. You wear them and they're just, they're actually walking like on cloud. Or I want to know what is one word because, you know, we're not selling sneakers here. Love. What is the one word? Love. that you would round this whole season, love.
Starting point is 00:46:07 Your toasts, we gotta wrap here quickly, but your toasts were always fun, happiness and love. Yeah, love happiness and fun. Yeah, you did that, I noticed that. Yeah, love happiness and fun, right? That's what it is. Yeah, that's what it's about, right? It's a great mix.
Starting point is 00:46:22 One last thing, do you feel more relaxed, more open to receiving love and giving love now? You were a little uptight in the beginning, I gotta tell you, that's what I saw. I mean, on our podcast, we might have called you stiff once or twice or 300 times. But we love you. It's like just trying to figure it out, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:44 You don't want to go overboard, you know, right after the bat. You want to take it slowly. You've got to find out what the people are. Well, now you're here. And now we have to wrap it up so we can't take it slowly anymore. I'm going to be back on your show, though, right? I'm just going to ask. Would you come back to our show?
Starting point is 00:46:59 We just let me know. We would love to have you. And we hope you're happy. Are you on for an hour? Depends. I want the whole hour. Okay. I don't want to come in there.
Starting point is 00:47:09 We'll do two or three episodes. You're on the shoddy deal. I don't want 20, 20 minutes. Like, you know, like it'd be going to wade through all the commercials. We'll give you an hour. You got it. Thanks for joining us. And Mel, we both wish you a lifetime of happiness.
Starting point is 00:47:20 Yeah, thank you very much. Unfortunately, we went past our time once again, Kathy. I think this is it. Well, you know, if you love this, you just got to tune in to Golden Hour Go to Bachelornation.com What's wrong?
Starting point is 00:47:37 What's wrong with that? She said to do our usual shit. I know. It sounded funny. I don't know why. She's tired. She's lost it.
Starting point is 00:47:45 I'm so sorry. Start to laugh. I'm hungry. I'm hungry. I'm tired. Okay. Well, Kathy, we went past time once again.
Starting point is 00:47:59 We have to end this great night. You know what? It was so much fun. talking with all the women. And if you like this episode, you've got to tune in to the rest of them because we've got more great guests coming up. Absolutely. You remember what to do? Go to bachelornation.com slash golden hour. Send us your comments, send us your questions. And in the meantime, tune in and I just screwed that up. It's catchy, isn't it? Laughter is catchy. Thank you so much.
