And we are here with the first Rose, first impression rose recipient.
Starting point is 00:01:47 Oh my God. All these seasons and you almost forgot the name. Let me help you out, Joe, in case you haven't been on the show before. It's called a first impression rose. But hi. There you go. There you go.
Starting point is 00:01:56 That's a big, that's a big thing to get. night one did you are were you aware of that going into it oh yeah i've been watching the show for i don't know trist and ryan are my still my favorite couple ever i think that's a lot of people right but you know over the years i've watched a ton of episodes so you know the the first impression rose it was set on the table it's pretty hilarious everybody's like what's this what's this and i'm kind of like uh it's called a first impression rose and i bet you 90 of the guys there had no clue what a first impression rose was really they were calling you super uh super fan i heard is that true yeah jordan i was there's a guy named jordan good bud
Starting point is 00:02:35 but yeah he called me uh he called me fan boy first you know right there he's like he fan boy what's up i'm like shut up well you know what it worked out because you got the first impression rose so and we do say when people go on this show it's good to go on with a little background knowledge of what you're getting yourself into yeah oh yeah no uh you know so you know just meeting the guys the first night where you're sitting around the bar you're talking you know you're waiting for your time with Joan whatever and I was asking guys who had watched or who hadn't watched and yeah definitely I've watched way more of these things than I think than anybody else that's for sure yeah to me it's it's it's kind of crazy to agree to go on reality television and do zero research like you need
Starting point is 00:03:21 to do a little bit of prep yeah like one guy I was talking to one guy that night he was like yeah, I watched like four or five episodes of the Golden Bachelor. I'm like, okay, well, at least you have some idea what's going on. That's something. Yeah, yeah. That were, that plays. So let's take it back to the beginning. How did you wind up on the show?
Starting point is 00:03:45 I volunteered. Nice. So a long time ago, I don't know, I had a friend, and she was probably 26 at the time. And I was trying to get her on the show. I was like, hey, you got to go on this show. So, you know, she moved away and she called me like when the Golden Bachelor came out. She said, hey, you got, you need to sign up. Like, you got to be 65.
Starting point is 00:04:05 I wasn't 65 at all. And, but then when the Golden Bachelor came out and I saw the people were 60, I was like, you know, the final episode after the final rose happened on Gary's season and a glass of wine and, you know, the application later, I, you know, was all set, you know, last November and put my, put my application in. So, again, a lot happened around the bar when you're talking and, you know, when you first get there. I think I was the only guy that probably volunteered. Most other people, family members, daughters, you know, sisters, whatever. You know, they were, they were volunteering their, you know, these guys to be on. But, yeah, I volunteered myself.
Starting point is 00:04:45 Wait, and you have, you have three daughters, correct? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Did they know about you volunteering when you did it at first? Oh, yeah. Yeah. When I'm filling it out, I actually called Ryan, my oldest. And I was asking her like, hey, this is what I'm putting down.
Starting point is 00:05:00 And she was coaching me. And I thought some of her answers were stupid. So I said, no, I'm out. I'm going to do this myself. All three of them were totally stoked. They were like, you've got to be kidding, me, dad. But they were totally stoked I was doing this. Did they plan anything for the premiere episode to celebrate?
Starting point is 00:05:19 So my oldest one, she lives in L.A., and she, last night, she had to look for a bigger apartment to do it. And she just had a bunch of friends coming over. I've got my middle daughter, Anika, she's up in Chico. Last night she had a bunch of kids over in their living room. My text was blowing up after the show. And then my youngest one, she was with me. And it's just here I was going to do a big party, 200, 300 people, you know, get a venue type thing.
Starting point is 00:05:50 And I just decided no. I wanted to watch it. I wanted to see it. because I'm pretty excited. I just wanted to, my attention to be on the show itself. So just me and 10 of my closest friends. What do your girls think of Joan? Oh, totally excited.
Starting point is 00:06:08 When they found out it was going to be Joan, oh, she had the style points, clothing. First night I even told Joan, I said, hey, you know, there's a lot of pressure here on you that, you know, my daughters followed you on Instagram, whatever. Yeah, you said, your clothing, your style points are way high. So you've got a lot to live up to here. But they thought she was, you know, they just liked her.
Starting point is 00:06:35 They liked what she was about. They thought she was beautiful. And you're, Keith, you're in San Jose. Yeah, Northern California or San Jose. Is that where you're from? No, I'm originally small town, Indiana, Columbus, Indiana. I've been out here for 30 odd years, 40 years. 40 years.
Starting point is 00:06:54 Yeah, you have a deeper Midwestern accent. That makes sense. That makes sense. And what do you, what do you do for? You're a good, you're a good Midwestern guy too. I lived in Chicago for a year and a half. It's a, it's all, if I could take Chicago, seriously, if I can take Chicago and put it in warm weather, best city, best city I ever lived in.
Starting point is 00:07:14 Yeah, it's just too, it's just too goddamn cold. The winters are just so cold. Yeah. Keith, what do you do for a living or what did you do? No, I'm still working. I'm just a sales director, fiber optic company. I've been in the industry for 30 years, you know, this company, four or five. But yeah, just selling.
Starting point is 00:07:36 And you said your girls were really excited that it was going to be Joan. What did you think of Joan going into the season? Like, is she your type? Is she like, totally my type. The one thing I couldn't find out was how to. tall she was. So I kept looking back on the old episodes to see how tall she was compared to Gary and check out her heels to see what she was wearing. But yeah, blonde hair, blue eye, you know, great smile. Totally in my wheelhouse. Yeah. When was the last time you went on a date?
Starting point is 00:08:15 Before you went on the show. Yeah. Probably a few months before, a few months before I went on the show. So I was going to say, once I applied on the show, I kind of stopped, I don't know, thinking about dating or I didn't date much after I applied for the show. And I just, you know, I don't know if I was just concentrating on, you know, work and kids, family, whatever, but, or just seeing where this went. But, yeah, I just slowed down once I applied. And how would you, how would you go about dating before going on this show? Like, did you do like any of the dating apps or anything like that? No, I'm not a big dating app guy. In fact, I've only, I haven't done a dating at probably in like six, seven years.
Starting point is 00:08:55 Mostly just through friends, network, getting set up, meeting people outside. You know, I go out a lot. I like going out a lot, so I just meet people. And, you know, but setting up, I'm going to say that I've had the best luck when, you know, within your friend network, you know, the people, they know who you are, they know who the friends are. And they said, yeah, I feel like that would be the best way. I was, I was never one to like enjoy dating apps. I just found them really difficult. Well, you didn't really enjoy dating.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Dating kind of sucks. I agree with you. And then the, and then I talked to my buddies about dating apps too. And they were like, it's work. You got, you know,
Starting point is 00:09:37 once you get home from work and then you've got to go through all the messages and see which one you like. And just like, yeah, I'm lazy. You know, I don't need to do that. Let's go out and meet people.
Starting point is 00:09:46 Yeah, you want to like jump to just like, like that fourth date when things are getting much more comfortable and the nerves are gone. Yeah, when it's looking like you won't be dating anymore. So, Keith, we see you pull up in, what was it, like a station wagon? That was the tiniest little freaking station wagon. I said, hey, can we do a station wagon? You know, that's how the family vacation, you know, this little gimmick thing. I'm just trying to, you know, make an impression. And I get there. And it's like a mini. I don't know. It's the smallest thing.
Starting point is 00:10:17 I get out of that thing, I drive up, and I'm nervous anyway, right? It's your first time meeting Joan. I'm a pretty confident guy, but, you know, it's like any first date, I guess. You're kind of nervous, but now you've got the mansion, the lights. You know, here's Joan all dolled up in a beautiful gold gown, and I'm trying to get out of this thing, and it's just, I'm just legs and arms coming out trying to, it was a low rider. I stand up. I'm taller than the car. I bet I, you know, it was only, I bet I couldn't even lay down front to back in there. It was so tiny. Oh, my gosh. How long were you in it?
Starting point is 00:10:58 Not long, I guess. Just, I mean, it drove okay. Sitting in there was fine. It was just getting in and out. I just got some limbs that had to get out of there, and it was not a big door. Not feeling too great as fault. I never envisioned being with a woman. I'll just be honest. I'm Jamel Hill, host of the sports and politics podcast, Spolitics. On this week's episode, I'm joined by basketball legend, Candice Parker, who stops by to discuss her candid new book, The Can Do Mindset, in which she shares why she waited two years into marriage to come out.
Starting point is 00:11:32 Like when I close my eyes at night, every night, I was like, I need to find my prince charming. Like, it was never a princess. Like, that never entered into my mind. But, you know, as I learned, sometimes. life gives you things wrapped in a package that you didn't expect it. And that was just, you know, and honestly, it took me a long time to be okay with myself. Make sure to listen to this week's episode of Spolitics on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:12:08 Hi, my name is Enya Yumanzoor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble. Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your free IHeartRadio app.
Starting point is 00:12:35 Search Emergency Intercom and listen now. A foot washed up a shoe with some bones in it. They had no idea who it was. Most everything was burned up pretty good. from the fire that not a whole lot was salvageable. These are the coldest of cold cases, but everything is about to change. Every case that is a cold case that has DNA. Right now in a backlog will be identified in our lifetime.
Starting point is 00:13:01 A small lab in Texas is cracking the code on DNA. Using new scientific tools, they're finding clues in evidence so tiny you might just miss it. He never thought he was going to get caught. And I just looked at my computer screen. I was just like, ah, gotcha. On America's Crime Lab, we'll learn about victims and survivors. And you'll meet the team behind the scenes at Othrum, the Houston Lab that takes on the most hopeless cases to finally solve the unsolvable.
Starting point is 00:13:31 Listen to America's Crime Lab on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. How was your first? impression of Joan when you guys had that first interaction once you crawled out of the station wagon so you know I drive up and I just see her and she's just beautiful right I mean the lights around her and so I get out I'm nervous you know you plan your words in your head you know what you want to say and it never comes out or maybe it does come out like you want but you know you're always thinking man did I actually say that or did I not but my whole thing was I wanted to bring her back to the car and we're just going to sit and just talk
Starting point is 00:14:13 for a little bit about, you know, I don't even know what. I was going to talk about what I'd prefer to do, you know, instead of being at this mansion, I'll tell that. But all the since she's already trying to go off camera. I have an off camera conversation. Yeah, he was like, get away from the mansion. Let's go hang out by the car. I did.
Starting point is 00:14:30 So I got to the car and I was going to have her just sort of lean up or sit up on the hood. And she made it so comfortable. She just plopped up on the hood like it was nothing, just jumped in her heels. And I was like, wow. And that just, that helped right there. I mean, she was just comfortable. She started to make me really comfortable. And then I did.
Starting point is 00:14:48 I said, you know, what I prefer to do is, you know, the mansion has wine. The mansion has cheese and crackers, I believe. You know, there was food in there. Let's grab that. Let's head to the beach in our station wagon. Let's tailgate, you know, crack open a bottle of wine and just get to know each other. And, well, that might seem gimmicky at the time or, you know, ha, ha, let's do it. But it actually is true.
Starting point is 00:15:09 I would rather just have a one-on-one, just chill. not have the pressure of all the dress up and the mansion and the lights. And let's just go to the ocean and just hang out on the beach. Is that like at this point in your life, is that a must be by an ocean or by water? Because you do say that. Yeah, but by water. You know, I used to say ocean a lot of time. But then, you know, as I get older, you know, that I may narrow down my pool, I guess.
Starting point is 00:15:38 But yes, but I just like water, you know, be out on a boat on a lake. or, you know, you're on the beach, go swimming in the ocean. Serena loves water. I do love being by the water, too. Isn't it? It's so relaxing. Are you a water sign? Are you a water sign?
Starting point is 00:15:54 Yeah, I am a water sign, actually. Yeah, I can't believe you do that to ask that. You're a Pisces? Girl bad. Yeah, I'm a Scorpio, which ironically enough is a water sign. Oh, my gosh. Yeah. Sorry, Joe. All right. We, one thing we heard.
Starting point is 00:16:12 that I thought it was kind of interesting a lot of and I think it's just you know you've experienced a good amount of life but we heard a few of the guys like I wasn't I wasn't expecting to be as nervous as I was and I think it's probably normal to be a little older and think like yeah I've talked to many women in my life like I've been on many dates I've been married X amount of years like I'm not going to be nervous having like this first conversation were you were you shocked that you were nervous or did you expect to be? Well, I expected to be nervous, but I didn't expect to be that nervous.
Starting point is 00:16:47 And you know, you've got the TV, don't forget, you get the TV cameras there. You've got, you know, it's, it's not just a one-on-one. You're not picking her up from her house. I mean, you've got a mansion there with you. And I, you know, my first date,
Starting point is 00:17:02 I'm normally in shorts and a polo, I think, and we're doing somewhere casual. Here we are all dressed up and, you know, going out for a first date. So it's, yeah, it is nervous. wrecking. You don't, you don't know how nervous you're going to be and you just have to take a deep breath and just enjoy the moment. Yeah. So you walk into the house after your first impression of Joan. How is it with the guys? What's the energy like? What are people talking about? Yeah. What's your first
Starting point is 00:17:28 impression of them? Yeah. So everybody's basically hanging out around the bar and you look around and your mentality is like, this is my competition. But in reality, it's, you're not competing against them. You're competing against your, I guess, your own ego. You're even not competing. It's Joan picking, so it can't even be a competition, per se. But we are looking around going, all right, who are these guys? And you pick out, you know, automatically I was just drawn to like four or five guys. You know, you're just talking.
Starting point is 00:17:58 I was leaning up against the bar and all of a sudden this big guy, about six, five, white beard, white hair rolls in right behind me looking to get a drink. I'm like, dude, I was wondering if you're going to be here. And it was Mark and Kelsey's dad. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And he was here, he's like, I was hoping nobody would notice. And I'm like, well, you got the wrong guy.
Starting point is 00:18:18 I know. Yeah, you're the super fan. And he, Mark's that tall, huh? Mark's a big boy. Mark is a really. Yeah. Nicest human being. We had the nicest conversation that night.
Starting point is 00:18:31 I mean, just a bunch of us did, though, too. But, yeah, it was. And then you just start mingling around. And you just find, you know, you know, guys, why do we talk sports? where are you from? I don't know. You just start talking, but it's just a fraternity brother
Starting point is 00:18:47 from another college all of a sudden. You know, you meet him and he just seems, you remind you of somebody that was your friend in college. And so you just start bonding with these guys and talking about, you know, the superficial stuff.
Starting point is 00:19:00 Why are you on the show? Are you excited? Are you nervous? You know, that type of thing. Do you think any of you guys will like take a trip together or anything like that in the future? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:10 Oh, yeah. Yeah? Even that night. Yeah. So they do a big group picture, and there's this one guy, Jordan, and, you know, I hope, I hope we build a bond off of this one, but it was pretty cool. But this is what guys do. So he's standing in the back row.
Starting point is 00:19:26 He's like 6'2, and they move him down to the row below. He's like, hey, I'm never in the back row. I'm a tall guy. And I'm like, dude, if you're not tall, you're not tall. Get off the back row. He's like, you know, we're just doing the bullshit stuff. and then that night right after the rose ceremony I'm walking out and he looks down at my shoes their black little patent leather stuff that they have some print on he's like hey what size
Starting point is 00:19:49 I'm like 13 he's like can I borrow those rentals when you're done with them I'm like dude not they aren't rentals I bought him okay how how tall are you six five oh you're six five too wow oh my gosh just a tall yeah I'm like I'm six I'm six close to six two But everyone says I'm, I say I'm like six one and a half. I was like, you're six two. I know. Joe is the only guy that refuses to round up about his height. Anytime you'll ask him, he goes, I'm six one and a half.
Starting point is 00:20:21 I'm close to six till. You can just say you're six two. Well, because on my driver's license, it says six one. Yeah. Yeah, because they rounded down on your driver's like, yeah, to always round up. By the way, there is no man in this world that is 511. Because if you're 511, you say you're six foot. And if you're, and if you say you're 511, you're really 5.10.
Starting point is 00:20:39 So, who were the guys after night one that you kind of felt like you gravitated towards the most? Jordan, Mark, chalk, Dan. Yeah, that was, yeah, that was night one. Yeah. Nice. Okay. So you're in the house. You're mingling with the guys.
Starting point is 00:21:05 And then you have a conversation with Joan. and you end up getting the first impression rose. What was going on in your, well, yeah, just talk about that, just receiving the rows and everything. So I finally get my time with Joan, right? We go around and play bags, right? You guys put the, you know, we put the cornhole out and we threw some bags for two seconds. I liked that.
Starting point is 00:21:29 I thought that was that, like little like games like that, like I would call like a cottage game, but I don't know. But it's an icebreaker as well. Like it's a good activity that you could also kind of chat and get to know each other while doing. And she seemed to be really into it. So, you know, just the conversation, just how she made it so easy, you know, on this. We were talking and she goes, you know, a couple things. She goes, one, she really likes the beach a lot.
Starting point is 00:21:54 And she said when they go to the beach, her family, you know, goes to the beach, they play cornhole a lot out on the beach with their family and friends. So to her, that, I think that helped relax her as well. I didn't know any of this at the time. You know, we're just doing this. I'm just doing what I like to do and hopefully, you know, making an impression. But at this point, I knew the first impression rose when I saw it come out, but now it passed by like 20 minutes or I'd forgotten all about the first impression rows. All I cared about was talking with Joan and getting to know her, I think, more than anything. We just sat down, you know, we were going to sit down on this couch and it was like, you know, that seems a little formal.
Starting point is 00:22:30 So we went over and sat on the hearth of the fireplace and we just talked about. you know, what we, I think what we liked in life and, you know, we just getting to know each other. And all of a sudden, she said, hang on, I got to get up and go somewhere. I mean, I had no idea she was going to go get the first impression. I thought she had to, you know, she had to go, maybe go to the bathroom. I don't know. She had to leave. And all of a sudden, about three minutes later, she comes back out with the rose.
Starting point is 00:22:57 And my heart was like, you've got to be kidding me. You got to be. You know, when I leave, my daughter's like, dad, get the first impression. I'm like, it's not up to me. it's up to her, you know, it's that whole deal. But so she hands it to me. She goes, this is the very first impression rose of the golden bachelorette ever. And I'm like, yeah, that's great.
Starting point is 00:23:18 And but I said, what was more special to me that it was that she was giving it to me, you know, just the conversation that we had. I made, you know, she talked about me making it feel comfortable. She made me feel comfortable in the situation, you know, why we were here. So I know it's a big deal. She told me that twice. And I do understand it's a huge deal as far as the Golden Bachelorette series, you know, season goes. But it really meant more to me that she just gave it to me.
Starting point is 00:23:48 But I was not expecting it. I'd forgotten all about it. And it was an exciting moment, definitely. I'm Jamil Hill, host of the Sports and Politics Podcasts, Politics. And on the latest episode of Politics, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries joins me for a candid conversation about the state of the Democratic Party. What do Republicans say to you privately that they won't say publicly? Many of them are in fear of their political lives, and that's been part of the challenge. But we continue to say to them, you were elected to defend your constituents,
Starting point is 00:24:23 to stand up for your constituents. And there's life after Congress. And you should be willing to actually want to be able to look back on your time in the House of Representatives, knowing that you can keep your head held high because you did the right thing. Donald Trump is gone in three and a half years. But their legacy or their failure to stand up to the extremism and the unprecedented assault on America as we know it will be with them forever. Make sure to listen to Spolitics on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, my name is Enya Humanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called emergency intercom.
Starting point is 00:25:05 If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble. Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your free IHeartRadio app. Search Emergency Intercom and listen now.
Starting point is 00:25:28 What would you do if one bad decision forced you to choose between a maximum security prison? Or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth. Unfortunately for Mark Lombardo, this was the choice he faced. He said, you are a number, a New York State number, and we own you. Shock incarceration, also known as boot camps, are short-term, highly regimented correctional programs that mimic military basic training. These programs aim to provide a shock of prison life, emphasizing strict discipline, physical training, hard labor, and rehabilitation programs.
Starting point is 00:26:06 Mark had one chance to complete this program and had no idea of the hell awaiting him the next six months. The first night was so overwhelming, and you don't know who's next to you. And we didn't know what to expect in the morning. Nobody tells you anything. Listen to shock incarceration on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What were the other, when you, when you went back in the room, you know, wearing that we, I'm assuming, yeah, you put it on your, your jacket or what?
Starting point is 00:26:39 What were the other guy saying when they saw it? Oh, they're like, hey, you know, it was, one, I try to be humble, which you have it. You're walking back into the room with everybody and I just wanted to bust down, go, you know, yeah, but, you know, just staying humble with it and just knowing that, you know, this is just the first night and, you know, there's a lot more nights to go. But all the guys were, you know, support. Hey, what's up? Why'd you say? How did it go down? You know, so you tell the story, you know, five or six different times in different groups. But, yeah, most people were just worried about their time, I think, getting with Joan. Hey, Keith, what did you talk about? How did you go get your time? You know, how do I go get time? What should I say? What should I do? Those types of things. Yeah. We saw a lot of your conversation with Joan was just really lighthearted and you guys kind of bonded over like being by the water and they games and things like to do. We did see in your intro package you opened up about your daughters and your dynamic with your ex-wife. Were you able to talk to Joan about that at all during night one? Not night one. I tried to, I just, you know, again, again, not going after the first
Starting point is 00:27:49 impressions, but using that, you know, you're making a first impression. I just wanted to let her know that I had three daughters. You know, family is really important to me. I knew it was important to her but you know you don't know how or you know how your two lives can mesh and that that can come later it's the first date you're just trying to get to know each other and so you know my three girls are you know my life i've been with them you know single dad basically for the last 12 13 years yeah and uh you know it's been tough at times don't get me wrong god it's hard 13 to 21 for all you dad's out there 13 to 21 if you have a daughter ouch but uh Yeah, those are some of the tougher years.
Starting point is 00:28:33 Yeah, but I love my daughter so much. So, no, I talked to her about my daughters. She talked to me about her family. You know, again, we just, we kept it like what we like to do, how we like to spend a little bit of our time. Yeah. That's smart. I mean, I think that's the best way to go about that first,
Starting point is 00:28:50 that first day and having those first conversations. Because at the end of the day, like, it is still a first conversation. And you don't want to be like, all right you're about to hear some crazy shit let me go out on a first date and you go yeah and you just delve into your deepest darkest secrets and you're like let me tell you everything yeah that normally doesn't come out too well at the end so
Starting point is 00:29:15 did your impression of Joan change in any way from just seeing her on TV to then meeting her and getting to know her night one oh yeah I mean so if you watch the Golden Bachelor she I mean, first night, she wasn't even, I think, a cameo appearance like the camera just happened to bypass her and just, you know, you get a look at her. So she really didn't come on the show until the second or third episode. You don't get to really know anybody over a TV. All you see is the physical part.
Starting point is 00:29:45 She's beautiful, great smile, beautiful eyes. And then when you get out of the car and I saw her, you know, it's even, she's, in person, she's just even more, right? There's just more of her. She's more beautiful. You get the, her eyes are, you know, it's a piercing blue with these little stars in them, I guess. They were beautiful. But then she starts talking to you. And it's just easy conversation.
Starting point is 00:30:12 She just made me feel so comfortable. And that's what you don't get when you just watch something on TV or you see somebody, right? In person is where you get to know somebody. And she just made me feel comfortable. She was easy to talk to. You know, we had a lot in common. Did you notice any of the other guys? having a connection with Joan when you were there because I know you said it is kind of a it's a
Starting point is 00:30:32 competition you know within yourself but there are still other guys in the house trying to date the same woman that first night I you know as we talked I you just hear their conversations what they had but you're really not basing it you can't base if they got a connection or didn't have a connection I would think some of the guys just the conversations I had with them they were more, concerns not the right word, they were more impressed or wondering, you know, about me getting the first impression rose and me making an impression on her as opposed to them. But that means nothing. I mean, it's, you know, just how Joan explained it to me. I just made her feel comfortable. And, you know, I was the big teddy bear that, you know,
Starting point is 00:31:19 that just allowed her to get into a comfort zone. So it doesn't mean it another guy. didn't have a great connection with her as well. And we only based it on physical, you know, appearance. I just look at other guys. I'm like, oh, yeah, in the real world, you know, yeah, okay, you'd be, you'd be the dude, you'd be the dude, you know. Were you shocked by any of the eliminations at the end of the night? No.
Starting point is 00:31:45 But you don't know anybody well enough to have an impression like that, right? they go off and you know they she had her reasons but i have no idea why you know why people left or didn't leave so uh why she kept people and why she let people go that that that that first night i couldn't i couldn't get read at all what was the last time that you slept in a house with a bunch of guys your age well let's see yes i'm going to be doing it pretty soon again, too, but my fraternity brothers. So I have to think, but no, it's, yeah, when was the last time? Yeah, I know I've done it since I graduated for my fraternity.
Starting point is 00:32:36 But that, before going on the show, you know, one of my biggest fears was it, it wasn't about really meeting Joan because I was just going to be me. It was about sleeping and meeting and sleeping in a big room with about eight or nine other guys. I can do it. I've done it for, I don't know how many years of my life, you know, in college and then after college when you road trip or whatever. But I was wondering which guys out there had never done any of this and would hate it and just be, you know, a pain in your ass.
Starting point is 00:33:06 So were there some of those guys? I have no idea. I'll find out tonight. Okay. You want to play a little game with us? do I have a choice you do you are a super fan
Starting point is 00:33:27 I love that you know you do have a choice everyone has a choice we're going to do a rapid fire get to know me with Keith so first thing that comes to your head I'm going to ask you some questions
Starting point is 00:33:39 simple you ready I don't know this is pressure no it's very easy fun questions what's your go-to comfort movie or show Oh. Fast and Furious would probably be the movie. My favorite movie, though, would be Purple Rain. So, yeah. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Starting point is 00:34:00 Oh. God. I, I, I, God, I'll go with, uh, strength. What's your go-to karaoke song? Oh, gosh. Um, save a horse ride a cowboy. What's your favorite Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavor? Yeah, I forget the name, but it's got to be the darkest, deepest chocolate. I don't care about any nuts in there or whatever. It has got to be decadent chocolate, yeah. Serena likes that.
Starting point is 00:34:33 She has a nutty allergy. Yeah, no nuts of my ice cream. Pure chocolate. What is your dream vacation destination? Oh, beach. I've never been yet. You know, let's see, anywhere like Greece, Bali, Turkey. Turks and Cato's, whatever.
Starting point is 00:34:52 It's pick, give me a beach, sun, chill, bar. I'm in. Yeah. What's one piece of advice you've always kept with you? Oh. I don't know if it's advice. My biggest thing is I love my life. And I just tell people to love your life, if anything else.
Starting point is 00:35:13 You know, no regrets. I like that. What's the best concert you've ever been to? Oh, see, Tom Petty. What's your favorite way to spend the day off? Oh, beach or pool or water, cocktail, you know, doing nothing. Yes. Got it.
Starting point is 00:35:37 What's the most adventurous thing you've ever done? I guess jumping out of a plane. Or going on the Golden Bachelorette. Yeah, yeah. Good on you. Yeah, that would be some of my friends going, you did what? What's one food you can't stand? I don't have any.
Starting point is 00:36:00 Do you like everything? I didn't used to like peaches, and I learned about seven years ago to start eating peaches. I love peaches. Oh, you know what? Do me. Yeah. Yeah, I don't eat that. That's fair.
Starting point is 00:36:14 It's a tough one. What musician would you love to see live? Oh, Prince is my. I only have one regret in my life. I had a chance to see Prince and I blew it off because I was busy that week. And then he passed away like a month later. What's an accomplishment you are very proud of? My three daughters.
Starting point is 00:36:35 A fun fact about you. Fun fact about me. I've got so many. So let's see. Only one. I know. You can rile off a few. This is last question.
Starting point is 00:36:51 That's the last question. No, but fun fact, I like a lot of things. You know, like Cornhole. Fun fact about me is I tried, oh, I've always tried to be on ESPN, fun fact. So I tried out for the longest drive about when I was 50. And I was one round away for making TV. That bummed me out. And then back in 2017, 2018, I tried to get to pro status on the Cornhole tour.
Starting point is 00:37:15 So, but I never made it. Whoa, that is a fun fact. I wasn't expecting that. If you could describe Jones' season of the Golden Bachelorette in one word without spoiling it, what would it be? Exilery. I like that. All right. That is all for today's episode.
