Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the psychology podcast. Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about how to be a better you. When you think about emotion regulation, you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome. Avoidance is easier. Ignoring is easier. Denials easier.
Starting point is 00:00:25 Complex problem solving takes effort. Listen to the psychology podcast on the. iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. So in the last month, the Midas Touch Network beat Rogan, Tucker Carlson, Candice Owens, Charlie Kirk, and Ben Shapiro all combined. What happens when three brothers take on right-wing media and start winning? I find out on the latest episode of Next Question with me, Katie Couric. We just want people to live their lives and be happy and be able to enjoy it without some, you know, lunatic screaming in their face every three seconds. Listen to next question with me, Katie Couric
Starting point is 00:01:02 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Why are TSA rules so confusing? You got a hood of you. I'm take it all! I'm Manny. I'm Noah. This is Devin. And we're best friends and journalists with a new podcast called No Such Thing,
Starting point is 00:01:18 where we get to the bottom of questions like that. Why are you screaming? I can't expect what to do. Now, if the rule was the same, go off on me. I deserve it. You know, lock him up. Listen to No Such Thing on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. No such thing.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Hello, Bachelor Nation. This is Bachelor Happy Hour. We are so excited to be here. I am Joe. And I am Serena. And we are here. We are here. We are the new host of Bachelor Happy Hour.
Starting point is 00:01:57 And we are so beyond. excited to be here today recording separately but together as co-host which is crazy now both husband and wife and podcast co-hosts we can add it to the list yeah i'm excited we have we have big shoes to fill um but i'm ready i'm ready to go ready to go new season new season new podcast let's start fresh serena you excited or finally um hosting a podcast together? I'm so excited. Officially.
Starting point is 00:02:34 I know I'm tired, but I'm excited. I know. It's early, but we'll get into that. We'll get into that. But yeah, I never thought we would host one together, but. Really? Why not? I feel like you have had a podcast for, what, three years with Clickbait?
Starting point is 00:02:53 And then I've popped in it out of the podcast scene. Yeah. I think I thought we had a good flow when we did it together. I just, I don't know. I felt like we went for so long without having a podcast together that us having one together. So long, a good two years, our very lengthy relationship. That's fair. That's fair.
Starting point is 00:03:16 Are you worried about working with me? No, I don't think I'm worried. I feel like all of your good sides and divas sides, I already know. So there's not going to be a lot of, like, surprises. I feel like we also work really well together, like, in a day-to-day life. And we've also podcasted together and worked together in, like, a professional setting. So I don't think there's, like, what would worry me would be, like, the unknown of, like, oh, my gosh, how is this going to go? Like, are we going to be able to podcast together?
Starting point is 00:03:49 Are we going to get along? But we've already kind of tackled that. So I don't really, I don't really have any worries. I'm excited. I'm excited. What did you just? Did you say divasides? Is that what he just said?
Starting point is 00:04:01 Yeah, you're deepasides. I did say that, yes. Oh, unbelievable. You didn't like that? You didn't like that one? I didn't. I didn't. I just got back from my bachelor party for people listening like two hours ago.
Starting point is 00:04:21 It was. So for people that don't know, Serena and I are. getting married in September. Yay. Well, we're technically married now. But we both planned our bachelor parties. And mine was first. And I just went to Vegas for five days with some of my really close friends.
Starting point is 00:04:43 And I got my flight left at 9 a.m. Monday. And we got stuck in the air for two hours above Newark. And they would not land us. So then they decided to land the plane in Baltimore and then keep us stuck on the plane for three hours. Let us off the plane, but not let us leave and keep all our bags. Gave us an update every 30 minutes to re-update us. That was the craziest part was every time you contacted me, you were like, okay, they just updated us. I was like, okay, great, like, what's the update?
Starting point is 00:05:24 You're like, no, the update is we're going to get an update in 30 minutes. Crazyest thing in the world. I was like, what is happening? I have not eaten, have not slept. And then finally, at about 11.30, they said, we're taking all your luggage off. We are going to put you all on a bus to New York City. Which I've never heard of in my entire life. My mom had, when I was talking to my mom last night, she's like, oh, this happened to me one time.
Starting point is 00:05:54 but I've never heard of them being like we know you booked a flight but we got you a bus instead load on up and here we go and then there was there was 150 of us standing there and I'm like how many buses are they even going to be able to get we stand outside they're like oh buses buses are filled what there wasn't any more room on the bus we don't know buses weren't ready So then me and four random guys split a, like a Yukon, a driver was there. He's like, between all five of you, $850 to drive you to New York and we're like, let's just do it. I have to do this five kids. 850 split five ways?
Starting point is 00:06:39 Split five ways. Okay. I was like, but we were packed in. I was sitting in the middle. It was, they were all nice guys, but it was, it was crazy. and I finally got home at 4 a.m. And here we are, waking everyone up who's working on this podcast. I feel terrible.
Starting point is 00:06:58 Yeah, and it's 7 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, 4 a.m. Pacific Standard Time. So we definitely drew the long straw in the situation because it's not too bad. But you must be so tired. Did you get to sleep at all in the car? No. I haven't slept. I haven't slept. But I'm excited. Did you even try to sleep or no? I nodded off a little bit, but I,
Starting point is 00:07:20 I really couldn't. Do you think the people that were waiting for the bus are still sitting in Baltimore? Yeah, they are because I just got an update right now that the plane's leaving, which means they didn't get on the buses. So they might, they're boarding in like two hours, which is crazy. Oh, my God. Joe, imagine you were like, you waited for the bus and you guys didn't get in that car. They probably shoveled them all back to the gate and just said, never mind, here's the plane.
Starting point is 00:07:50 in a few hours that's brutal that's actually is that your worst travel experience ever this was the worst this was worse than when we got stuck in in calgary in calgary you'll be um you will be in this position in two weeks because it's your first time going to Vegas ever which is crazy yeah yeah but hopefully i'm not in that position i don't want to experience that at all just make sure that you stay hydrated because that was a key for me. I did an IV treatment Sunday. Thank God I did that because it kept me hydrated. So I wasn't like super hungover. Yeah. Yeah. Just to clarify, I'm going to I'm going to Vegas as well for my bapsrette party in two weeks and it'll be my first time in Vegas. But Joe is a Vegas expert, a native, basically a local, if you will. And he goes on the ride. He's there like
Starting point is 00:08:46 twice a year. So this was not his first time in Vegas whatsoever. But fill the people in on your bachelor party. You had a long, a long five days in Vegas. It looked like a lot of fun. Yeah. I think you didn't post that much about it. Yeah, I didn't really post that much. We gambled a lot, a lot, a lot. As per usual. Yeah. I like, oh, I wish I had some crazy stories. But yeah, we gambled. We went to, we went out every night. But what we did this time Oh, and this is going to be super interesting for everyone listening. We went to dinner at 5.30 p.m. in Vegas, which is crazy. But it actually worked out well because then we had the whole night.
Starting point is 00:09:30 The only one from Bachelor Nation that was there was Clay. Wait, wait, wait, wait. You were like, this is a crazy story. We went to dinner at 5.30 Vegas. Was that the story? Yeah. I'm also still delusional. I swear I'm delusional.
Starting point is 00:09:46 It's crazy. And I have to leave after this. Oh, no. All right. But yeah, Clay was the only one from Bachelor Nation there. He was actually the one I was getting all my Instagram content of your bachelor party from. He was popping off. It was great.
Starting point is 00:10:01 Yeah, Clay's a big, he'll post a lot of stories. I also saw, I also met, remember on our season of Paradise Chason? Mm-hmm. Smoke show guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He was there. and Spencer. So Spencer from that season as well.
Starting point is 00:10:18 I think that's Tisha's season. Yeah. So at Excess, Encore Beach Club, Sunday. We'll hung out with those guys for a little bit. They're cool. Nice guys. That's nice. That's fun.
Starting point is 00:10:30 Yeah. So overall. Overall is a great time. Travel experience, a negative five. A negative five. Yeah. That sounds about right. Is anybody from,
Starting point is 00:10:43 batch nation going to yours badge nation no you might even know to say that please um no no one from the nation is coming to my
Starting point is 00:10:55 bachelor at party I'm just doing small group so I've got like three of my best friends from high school three of my best friends from university and then my sister
Starting point is 00:11:04 so a little more intimate than your 15 to 20 person five day ranger we're just going for three days but we're still going to do all the things and then all of our bachelor friends will be hopefully at the wedding. So that's where we'll celebrate with them.
Starting point is 00:11:20 I am up money on this trip, which never happens. I left Vegas. I did really well. That's great. That's what I love to hear. If I end up going back to Vegas when you're out there for yours, I'll stay away from you. No, what? You're not coming to Vegas on my Bachelorette trip.
Starting point is 00:11:38 But we were talking about potentially going again. So they want to go again this summer. Together. We were talking, oh, you were talking with your friends about going again in, what, two weeks? Yeah, but I won't be near you. No, Joe, stay home. Like, you don't need to go back. I can't stay home. I can't stay home. I need to be moving. No, you need to catch up on sleep after last night. That's going to take you some time for sure. Also, I'm at, um, yeah, we're at like a pool party. And I love.
Starting point is 00:12:12 and I see you posted our two-year engagement. I'm like, wow, it's a two-year engagement. Yeah, I know. I called you. My mom actually reminded me. Joe and I are really not great with the anniversaries. But my mom was like, oh, it's your two-year engagement anniversary today. I was, oh, yeah, it is.
Starting point is 00:12:34 So that was sweet. I mean, we weren't together, so obviously we didn't really celebrate. But it's a fun memory. It is a fun memory. That was nice. I was like, oh, this is nice. That's crazy. Can you believe it's been two years?
Starting point is 00:12:47 Two years. No, I actually cannot believe it. I feel like, and I think we've talked about this before, but I was saying it to my mom yesterday, I feel like it feels like it's been longer than two years. A, because probably, like, we're married and, like, we've had, like, a speedy relationship. But B, I feel like it's because Paradise, like, is a short period of time in our relationship in terms of, like, days, but it feels like such a long period of time in our relationship because so much happens and, like, you progress so much.
Starting point is 00:13:21 Like, we were engaged at the end of it. So it feels like it was, like, a few months of our relationship in terms of, like, how close we got and, like, how much we learned about each other. Do you know what I mean? This is my theory. You stole my theory. I've told you this. Yeah, I said.
Starting point is 00:13:39 We talked about this. but I feel like I'm expanding on what you prior said. You are, yeah. No, it feels like forever, but it feels like forever. It's been women together for a long-ass time. It feels so long. But it feels like so long, but like in a good way. That's because the 20 days of filming in Paradise feels like, you know.
Starting point is 00:14:02 Yeah, yeah, it really does. That's why I always tell people like that, like, oh, it's crazy. You got engaged that for 19 days, and it is so crazy. but it feels it doesn't feel like 19 days yeah even like looking back on it now you know like I don't look back and go like oh my god like that was so I mean it was like it was a short amount of time but like I feel like I don't look back and go like oh I barely knew you then do you know what I mean like or I don't I feel like this progression that we made in paradise felt really significant at the time and looking back like it still feels significant i don't look back and think like
Starting point is 00:14:42 oh gosh like we barely knew each other that's so crazy i mean it is crazy but we really did know each other it did feel like we had like really progressed in our relationship and i feel like i've said that three times now because i'm sick deprived yeah no but i i completely agree i really do i am um and i was also thinking when i was in student a lot of thinking when i was in Vegas um Where are you now? What? I'm, I'm like, no, not like that. Thinking about what?
Starting point is 00:15:13 Well, no, because I'm excited about this first episode and just like us breaking down the episode because you and I, when we do watch the show, we'll talk about our feelings and what's going on on the show right then and there. And we both watch it separately and haven't talked about it at all. Yes, yeah, which we did intentionally. because usually if we do watch it separately, I would like call you after, be like, what did you think about all of this stuff? But because we knew we were podcasting today and we weren't going to be together to watch it,
Starting point is 00:15:46 we were like, okay, we'll watch it separately and we won't. So I haven't heard one thought from you about the screener, which is really fun. We'll see how it goes. I'm curious to hear your thoughts. I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the Psychology Podcast. Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about exploring human potential. I was going to schools to try to teach kids these skills and I get eye rolling from teachers or I get students who would be like, it's easier to punch someone in the face.
Starting point is 00:16:16 When you think about emotion regulation, like you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome as a result of it if it's going to be beneficial to you. Because it's easy to say like go you, go blank yourself, right? It's easy. It's easy to just drink the extra beer. It's easy to ignore, to suppress, seeing a colleague who's bothering you and just, like, walk the other way. Avoidance is easier.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Ignoring is easier. Denial is easier. Drinking is easier. Yelling, screaming is easy. Complex problem solving. Meditating. You know, takes effort. Listen to the psychology podcast on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:16:59 So in the last month, the Midas Touch Network, beat. Rogan, Tucker Carlson, Candice Owens, Charlie Kirk and Ben Shapiro all combined. Conservative podcasts can have a major political impact, but the Myceles Brothers, three siblings with a serious media strategy, are building an alternative to that. On the latest episode of Next Question with Katie Couric, I sat down with the brothers behind the Midas Touch Network to talk about how they built a progressive media powerhouse from the ground up, why audience interaction is the key to pull. political influence and what it takes to fight disinformation at scale, one download at a time. We should be focusing on the issues that actually occupy a lot of the mental space in Americans' minds but are filled with conspiracies, and we should fill it with the truth and solutions. Listen to next question with me, Katie Couric on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
Starting point is 00:17:55 you get your podcasts. Hi, my name is Enya Humanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble.
Starting point is 00:18:20 Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your free IHeartRadio app. Search Emergency Intercom and listen now. and next week too next week you're going to be you're going to be in cabo so we're not going to be recording together again yeah that's that's a whole other scheduling situation that we got to figure out but i have no intention of getting stuck on my way home but we also have we have your cousin's wedding in toronto yeah it's going to be a really really busy few weeks and we've been
Starting point is 00:18:57 traveling like nonstop and there's not really an end in sight right now But I think I'm, I think I'm in New York for like two days out of the entire, like, month. All my years of living this year will be the most traveled of my life. Really? You think more than last year? Oh, yeah. Yeah. We've already, we've, we've, we've been going nonstop now for like. Like six weeks. Yeah. Yeah. And it's going to go to the end, our wedding, our honeymoon, which, by the way, I just made a dinner reservation in
Starting point is 00:19:32 Florence. Yeah. We've been traveling a lot and like a lot of the upcoming travel is surrounding like our wedding and our honeymoon and bachelor bachelor bachelor's bat parties, which is obviously so exciting. And I will give Joe full credit here. Like he booked our entire honeymoon. And like that's kind of the structure of our relationship. Like I feel like you are the travel agent and the relationship. And I love that. I am. You are and you do all the research and like I you're making all the and reservations, and it just makes me so freaking happy that I don't have to do that.
Starting point is 00:20:05 Adam and Raven were very good at it. You're really good at it. I know. It's one of my talents. Adam and Raven were just there, and Adam gave me the restaurant wrecks. If you guys don't know Adam and Raven, you probably do. They're a Bachelor in Paradise couple. They just had a kid.
Starting point is 00:20:22 They have another one on the way. That was your baby moon, I think, why they were in Italy. That's right. That's right. That's awesome. Very romantic. Oh, that's what I meant to tell you. Did you watch the Mabelene commercial, right?
Starting point is 00:20:36 Okay, so we couldn't get it in Canada, or at least where we were. The network didn't have it, but your mom and your aunt recorded it and sent it to me. Your aunt sent a video of your grandma and her watching it together. It was really sweet. But I thought it was cool. Honestly, it was such a long recording day. I feel like there are so many clips and stuff that, um, I don't want to say, like, didn't make the cut.
Starting point is 00:21:02 But, like, it was, like, we had so much footage. So it was really cool to, like, see it all come to life and see, like, what they ended up picking. And also, I didn't see your target stuff at all where you filmed, like, the in-store stuff. So that was so cool for me to see. Yeah. Did you like it? Did you see it? Didn't I send you the video?
Starting point is 00:21:21 Yeah, I liked it. It was, I never, like, watching myself back, but it was fun. I liked it. And we'll see when it airs. I mean, for me, like, I'm a makeup girl. So, like, getting to do the Mabelian commercial second year in a row was just, like, the coolest thing ever. Like, I love it. I hope they ask us a third year, putting that into the universe right now.
Starting point is 00:21:43 I'm a makeup guy. I love Mabelene. Maybe it's Mabelene. Yeah, yeah. Maybe it's Mabelene. The perfect fit for you, Joe, Mabelene. Maybe he's born with it. But, okay, before we get into the episode, what are you feeling for this season?
Starting point is 00:21:58 You feeling good things? Like, give me your overall vibe. your predictions going into this season your like overarching thoughts on charity before we like really dive in yeah okay um before i would say i just i guess my number my number one thought was that she she really seems to have her life and herself like together yeah and like when she was on zach season i looked at her of like you know this is a woman who who who knows what she wants and i feel like that's a great quality for a lead and usually that type of person will um end up in happily engaged at the end um and yeah this was just her premiere
Starting point is 00:22:50 um so but you know what's funny is i do feel like like i was excited for her to be the balstrat 100% because I agree with you. She's definitely seems like someone who has her life together in terms of like all aspects. And I think she's absolutely stunning. But I don't feel like we saw her personality very much on Zach's season. Like actually at all, if I'm being totally honest. So I was like, hmm, I wonder how she's going to be. Like I just don't feel very connected to her in the sense like I don't feel like I know who she is as like a person in terms of like her personality. Like, I know her, like, checklist, her resume, and she seems great, obviously, but, like, who is this girl, like, as a person? And I feel like they showed off her personality
Starting point is 00:23:36 so much in the premiere episode. And it made me way more excited to watch her because she does have this very, like, warm, bubbly, like, fun personality. Yeah. I couldn't agree more. I would say just like even the first five minutes of the premiere I know way more about charity now than I did the entire season. 100%.
Starting point is 00:24:03 Like they definitely showed us like on Zach's season it was definitely like oh yeah she's a catch but like I was like honestly like does she have a personality like I wasn't like oh she's boring I was just like I don't know
Starting point is 00:24:15 if she has a personality or not because it's not getting shown or if like this is just her personality but like yeah Within five minutes, I was like, oh, my God, she's so fun and cute. And, like, yeah, I'm excited. I'm way more excited to watch her season. I feel like other people, I can imagine, feel the same way after seeing the first episode.
Starting point is 00:24:34 Well, even on Twitter, like, everything is, like, people are very excited for her and excited to watch her. And it seems like all positive, which usually, usually there's some pushback. And it seems like, who knows, maybe she'll be the most. adored Bachelorette of all time. Maybe. Maybe we'll have to watch and find out.
Starting point is 00:24:57 Yeah. That was actually my favorite. One of my one of my favorite parts of the premiere episode was the Caitlin Bristow came out. Cameo when she came in.
Starting point is 00:25:09 Oh my God. When she came in with her wine and she's like from what she called herself a washed up bachelor's? Yeah. Yeah. It's your favorite washed up
Starting point is 00:25:18 Bachelorette. It was just so seamless. So it was like that that's so funny. Yeah, that was in my notes. She's hilarious. They had quite a few little cameos from a bunch of different past balchrettes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:31 Which I always think is nice. All right. You want to place you want to place to wager? Oh, sure. I'm not really a gambler. I like got nervous immediately. Like I started studying here. The minute I hear the word wager, I'm like stuttering. I'm still, yeah, I'm still
Starting point is 00:25:47 in gambling mode. Do you, do you think she ends up happily engaged? No headaches, just smooth, smooth engagement. What do you define as a headache? Like with Zach and Katie, like where it was like a rocky road kind of thing? Yeah, near the end, yeah. Like at the end, like a huge like like a kind of, I wouldn't say as much a Zach situation, more of a Clayton situation.
Starting point is 00:26:20 Okay. Okay. That's a better example. That's a better example. I think no. I think there'll probably be a couple like major heartbreaks because she seems like she's someone that falls fast and hard. Like I feel like the guys that she has a connection with, she's already like, whoa, I'm
Starting point is 00:26:41 really into these guys. So I think she's going to have some major heartbreaks. but I'm feeling optimistic that it's going to be like a clean proposal at the end. And I would love to hear that she's still in love and happy. But honestly, I think this is the least amount I've ever known going into a season. Like usually I feel like I hear spoilers here and there. Like I know nothing going into the season. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:07 Yeah, very true. Yeah, very true. I even felt, I even feel like for Rachel and Gabby's season, And I felt like there was a lot of spoilers for that season, which I'm not a fan of spoilers. So I'm excited that we know literally nothing going into charity season. It makes it so much more exciting. It makes it more exciting to talk about it and podcast about it. Yeah, 100%.
Starting point is 00:27:34 I feel like it lets me watch it with like fresh eyes. You know what I mean? And I'm like picking out like who I think is going to go far, who I think just going to end up with, all the things. Yeah, for sure. And then this will be Bachelor Happy Hour for the season will be the only place where current cast members will be talking and coming on in podcasting. So exclusive right here, Bachelor Happy Hour, we get all the exclusives. So make sure you check us out, right, Serena?
Starting point is 00:28:09 Yeah. And we're going to be having new episodes come out every single week. We're so excited to get to follow along on Charity's journey, as well as just get to know these guys. I'm excited to chat with them every single week and hear about their experience and watch their journeys unfold. Yeah, let's let the journey begin right now. I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the Psychology Podcast. Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about how to be a better you.
