And today we have a very, very special guest. This guest is so dear to both of our hearts, Kathy. Please, well, Welcome from Joey's season, our one and only Rachel dance. Hi, Rachel.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Welcome back to Golden Hour. Oh, I'm so happy to be back. How are you? You look absolutely gorgeous. I just have to say. Something's agreeing with you, girlfriend. Something's agreeing with you. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:03:43 I don't know what it is. Wait, whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold your hand up again. Uh-oh. You got a move-bo. It's not that serious. It's like my nails all the way off, but it's hanging on. So I just have it covered.
Starting point is 00:03:54 So what I'm like doing stuff. I mean, can I just, say for the you all can't see her but rachel was is and i see you nurse she's got this hand with a splint on it for a hanging nail she's got rubber foam splint tape it looks like she broke her finger in 16 places okay so when it happened i didn't go get it checked i cleaned it myself i did everything myself but it was like of course so i don't wrap it so i can just go along with my life and okay wait i'm going to ask the stupid question why don't we just take the nail off okay if i showed to you, it's gross, it's hanging on to my
Starting point is 00:04:28 cuticle bed. So it's painful to try to pull it off. So I'm hoping it just... It'll eventually come off. Yeah. Okay, well, other than this nail hanging by a thread, how have you been? I've been really good. Really, really good. What's that pretty smile about the really good part? You want to tell us something?
Starting point is 00:04:48 No, I'm happy. Life's been really good lately. Okay, that's a good story. Now tell us the truth. I think, I mean, have you met someone? No, it's, I mean, it's not that. It's just like I, I finally, I think I've fully submerged myself in one of my biggest passions in life, which I've always done. I've always been a writer. And since I've been taking my time away from nursing, I've just been deep diving in that and actually enjoying it.
Starting point is 00:05:17 And my really good friend and I, we wrote our first short film. So we've just, I know. I'm sorry, wait, you wrote a film? wrote a film and it's like our baby right now so I'm yeah what's it about awesome it is I don't want to give the whole long line that we wrote but it's a story very dear to me and it's something that's happened to me and happen to my friends as well that a lot
Starting point is 00:05:41 people I think hush hush nowadays and it also kind of ties into cultural differences of friendships and relationships and it's just like it's a drama so it's kind of a gut-wrenching type of film. So once you write this, then you have to take it places for people to want to. Yeah. So I've always written like books and films, but now that I have the time, we're going to submit it to film festivals. So that's our was to get some festival and have it. How long is it? Is it a short?
Starting point is 00:06:14 It's a short. So it's like maybe it's like under 40 minutes. It's kind of what the film is. Wow. Well, maybe it'll be short at the Austin Film Festival. I mean, that would be your dream. Or con. Or con. Toronto. Toronto has a big film festival too. I mean, yeah, we're going to submit it to pretty much everything and just keep the ball rolling. But it's, I've just been enjoying the process. Congratulations. That's wonderful. That's super congrats. Yes. So you're not back into nursing, though? You're not? No. Since I adopted my dog and been doing writing, I haven't had time. I just like, I don't want to leave him for 14 hours of the day. I've been enjoying not having pee and poop on me.
Starting point is 00:06:53 in a while, so it's just kind of safe. I've been clean. I've been, you know, I've just been asleep. I mean, that dog, you know, it comes with a dog too, though. Yeah, I did to pick up the poop and stuff, but it's a little bit. And update us on the dating life, are we, or not? We're just still open to, yeah. I mean, I think I'm just really happy with where I am right now.
Starting point is 00:07:18 I think I've found my place in my life, and I, I mean, you live in L.A., though, right? yeah well then why are you in Santa Monica I told you we're drilling you here come on do tell my girl come on there's somebody off camera there would you like to show us who's off camera there my friend who I'm writing this home with lives in Santa Monica should I grab his arm
Starting point is 00:07:44 yes should I want to see yeah we want to see him let's go friend he's outside of the dog what's his name he didn't want we're not going to say that yet okay oh yet so it is more than friendship okay i think susan we can safely say we're breaking news breaking news on golden hour i think we're here rachel nance may may or may not have a friend have a friend i love friends they're just some mine and we like dogs too right yeah wow so all right so we're not uh who do you keep in touch with let's go there who do you keep in touch with let's go there who do you keep
Starting point is 00:08:23 been touched with from Bachelor Nation? Leia and I are obviously tight. Daisy and I are so very, very tight. I went to Miami Swim, we could saw Kelsey walk in her show. Yes, and she look amazing. She looked amazing. I was like, jaw on the floor. I was like, I get
Starting point is 00:08:39 what you, yes, like that's the one. And I still catch up, like Lexi and I talk sometimes. I just think it's hard because like Daisy's moved to Vegas. You know, all these girls were kind of moving all over the place. So we definitely try to stay in touch. and just like FaceTime or C-J. So wait, are you going to be on Paradise then this year?
Starting point is 00:08:58 No. No. I didn't go, but that's okay. Ah. Either did I. Well, you have a reason not to be on Paradise. Oh, please. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:09:13 You're going to paradise. Nancy? I thought you went. Did you say Nancy? I said Auntie Kathy. Oh, I thought you said Nancy. like Nancy. No, I'm Kathy.
Starting point is 00:09:24 Any Kathy, actually hot breaking news. Yes, I did. I knew it. I knew it. I have a smile on my face, too. And nobody can say anything. Boy, this is great. I have to wait.
Starting point is 00:09:39 You have to wait. You have to wait. I mean, it's what it is. So, okay, so what are the exciting projects coming up and all she just told us? I mean, that is unbelievable that you just wrote. full time, right? Yeah, it's full. It's like, it's full time. I mean, I'm doing it. I mean, we're writing for like 8 to midnight, like every day. So, I mean, the writing is done. Now we're just doing production and. So I hate to be stupid here, but I'm going to be. When you write a short,
Starting point is 00:10:10 then do you, that's the words, right? I mean, and then do you film it? And so you write it, then you film it, and then you edit it. So it's a whole thing. The whole thing. It's the outline, the logline, a lookbook, a script, a movie, a trailer will be all... Did you go to school? How did you learn how to do all this? I'm self-taught. I was homeschooled. So I was always obsessed with film like Cat on Hotson roof. Alfred Hitchcock. I always watched all those films. La Piscine French films really do me. But not in a negative way, but my family was very encouraging on doing the college route to get a solid career. Where was that? Autistic route, which was nursing school.
Starting point is 00:10:54 So I didn't, I wasn't really kind of happily brought to, you know, I love my artistic side, which is not a bad thing. But now I have my nursing degrees if I have me to go back. That's what I can always. How do they feel about this new, your family? How do they feel about this new vein, if you want? Oh, they're so happy for me. They've known, but they're like, you know, I think as parents,
Starting point is 00:11:16 they're just relieved that you're independent, you're on your own. Like, you can, whatever happened, you got yourself. you have a back to find. I think that was their concern. Yeah. That's what us parents do, Rachel. Yeah, yeah, no, exactly. And I was like, that's their love language.
Starting point is 00:11:29 They didn't grow up with a lot. They wanted to make sure I was good regardless. So, yeah, they've always known that I've enjoyed films. And now that I'm doing it, they'll call me, like, are you writing? I'm like, yeah, I'm so sorry. I just need like an hour, like two more hours, like leave me. So tell me, I want to know because, you know, I've always threatened. I have the name of my book.
Starting point is 00:11:47 I just have never written it. The name is going to be run between the drops. but I have but I don't yeah well it's my mother used to say that where that came from was my mother had us walk to school rain, wind, snow, avalanche, whatever and we'd say it's pouring rain out
Starting point is 00:12:04 and she'd say run between the drops so that was always going to be the name of the book but but I honestly don't think I have the discipline to do it so tell me about that what's it like I mean eight to midnight you have to get writers block
Starting point is 00:12:20 every now and then just be stoned. Yeah, we'll go for a walk, like an hour walk. I mean, we're dousing up on caffeine throughout the day, but I think my idea is I've taken so much time away from my passion that I'm like, I just need to do it, and I just need to write it and put it out there. And if it bites and if someone really loves it, then amazing. And if it does it, I still enjoy the process of writing a film and writing a script. And I think because it's a passion, I'm like, I just need to do it.
Starting point is 00:12:48 I'm curious about your verbiature. You keep saying writing, but it's more than writing. You're producing a film. Yeah, we're writing, producing, and probably directing it, too. So, which maybe that's... You need an actor. We weren't going to the list because we're like, do we make the cast really small and intimate? Like, do we make this a whole thing?
Starting point is 00:13:10 I don't know. It's so much to think about, right? Because we're doing it on of our own money as well. Like, we're paying for everything. Your baby, yeah. We're a baby, so, you know, we're trying to make it the best, but also be conscious that we have bills to pay. We have rent-due. When do you expect completion?
Starting point is 00:13:25 We are hoping within a month. Nice. And how long have you been working on it? We started, this has been in the works, the idea that's been over a month, maybe two months, this specific one. And then we did the whole writing process, I mean, longer, like a week, two weeks maybe. we've been like secluded together like no one is here we're just constantly going uh-huh that friend uh-huh secluded with that friend okay you know what happens when you're locked into the house with somebody i mean we're just going to call him friend yeah yeah we're just gonna it's gonna be
Starting point is 00:14:05 breaking on bachelor nation rachel nance has a friend and i think because you know i think even with daisy's boyfriend too when they were dating i was like how is the privacy thing because I think it's, like, very different. You're with someone who doesn't do reality TV. If he's a friend or whether he's not a friend, whatever it is, I always ask him, like, do you want to be, like, do you want me to say who you want? He's like, I'm okay. Unlike Susan, who puts it out there all over the internet
Starting point is 00:14:34 and goes shopping for wedding rings as a joke. And Susan, though, like, come on. Did you read that article, though? I mean, that was big. I mean, no, there's always something out there. Oh. Oh, my God. I said, well, they want to say that.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Let's go. Well, I was going to my jewelers anyhow. Wait, but are you, you're still together? Yes. Yes. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, she threw me to the curb.
Starting point is 00:14:56 Didn't you hear all the school? Oh, God. She threw Kathy to the curb for the boyfriend. It's a joke. It's not true. It's so not true. Well, Kathy and I are getting ready to go away together, actually. Yeah, we're getting ready to go on a cruise for a couple of weeks.
Starting point is 00:15:07 Oh, where? Greece and Istanbul and Greece. And all the Greek guidance. I'm living through you guys. And I'm living through you guys. You're doing the right thing. You work and get that off the ground and then it's just getting started. Yes.
Starting point is 00:15:22 And I wish you all the best. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly and now I'm seriously suspicious. Oh, wait a minute, Sam. Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast. So we'll find out soon. This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust.
Starting point is 00:15:46 Now he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now, hold up. Isn't that against school policy? That sounds totally inappropriate. Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor and they're the same age. And it's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him?
Starting point is 00:16:03 Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the IHeart Radio app. Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. All right, West West, Prop here from Hood Politics with Prop Podcasts. You already know our get-down. If you grew up in our urban areas
Starting point is 00:16:25 of comfort of struggle, you understand politics much more than you giving credit for. Feds taking over American cities, government hop-out boys, hopping out the van, snatching up your Theo and them, two wars that was supposed to be solved
Starting point is 00:16:37 in 24 hours. Jerry just out here, mandering all over the place, the turfs, and of course, the Epstein of it all. Well, this week, we decided to shoot our shot, and boy, did we pull up from the logo, to see if we could get somebody to come tap in with us. And the one and only Jamil Hill pulled up from this politics podcast to keep it a whole century.
Starting point is 00:16:58 In America, what sells in politics are narratives and storylines. It's like we treat politics like we treat sports, which is part of the reason why we're in the situation we're in right now. Listen to the hood politics with prop podcasts on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. The Super Secret Bestie Club podcast season four is here. And we're locked in. That means more juicy chisement. Terrible love advice. Evil spells to cast on your ex.
Starting point is 00:17:25 No, no, no, no. We're not doing that this season. Oh. Well, this season, we're leveling up. Each episode will feature a special bestie, and you're not going to want to miss it. Get in here. Today we have a very special guest with us. Our new Super Secret Bestie is The Diva of the People.
Starting point is 00:17:41 The Diva of the People. I'm just like text your ex. My theory is that if you need to figure out that the stove is hot, go and touch it. Go and figure it out for yourself. Okay. That's us. That's us.
Starting point is 00:17:55 My name is Curley. And I'm Maya. In each episode, we'll talk about love, friendship, heart breaks, men, and of course, our favorite secrets. Listen to the Super Secret Bestie Club as a part of the Michael Thura podcast network available on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. My name is Ed. Everyone say hello, Ed. From a very rural background myself. My dad is a farmer
Starting point is 00:18:20 and my mom is a cousin. So, like, it's not like... What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke, but that really was my reality nine years ago. I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different. On stage stood a comedian with a story that no one expected to hear. Well, 22nd of July 2015, a 23-year-old man had killed his family. And then he came to my house. So what do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? A new podcast called Wisecrack, where stand-up comedy and murder takes center stage.
Starting point is 00:19:05 Available now. Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, couple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Jemail Hill, host of the Sports and Politics Podcasts Politics. And on the latest episode of Politics, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries joins me for a candid conversation about the state of the Democratic Party. What do Republicans say to you privately that they won't say publicly? Many of them are in fear of their political lives.
Starting point is 00:19:33 And that's been part of the challenge. But we continue to say to them, you were elected to defend your constituents, to stand up for your constituents. And there's life after Congress. And you should be willing to actually want to be able to look back on your time in the House of Representatives knowing that you can keep your head held high because you did the right thing. Donald Trump is gone in three and a half years. But their legacy or their failure to stand up to the extremism and the unprecedented assault on America as we know it will be with them forever. Make sure to listen to Spolitics on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:20:18 I'm so happy for you. That smile is worth everything. Yeah. There's little bits and pieces of, from my wife, it is not going to put in this film. And I also took from my friends that I've, that I've known or they've had really traumatic things happen. And we've pulled in from many of our stories to make it a relatable film. man, it'll touch all ages. I love that. Everybody will feel something from the health. I love that. And I feel like that's, you know, we talk about having a platform,
Starting point is 00:20:47 but better platform. Yeah. Yeah. I want to see this. Oh, you'll see it. You'll see it. You'll, yeah. Wow. Well, congratulations. If nothing else, you're going to do fabulous. I know it. And now we're going to get, move on in to our advice portion of the episode. Yeah. We're going to kick things off with our question of the and we would love to have your thoughts on this. Kathy, you want to read the question of the day? Okay, so Rachel, what do you consider to be an obvious red flag
Starting point is 00:21:20 that you see a lot of people ignore when they're dating? Oh, I don't know if it's a new one, but I will say love bombing. I think a lot of people misunderstand that as something that they really need when it could be an unhealthy. what do you mean love bombing like phone calls flowers presents no i i i love please yeah i'm gonna say that's a good bouquet of peonies every day that's my favorite flower well there you go rachel um i think i've i've experienced it where i've i've talked to a guy recently and he said everything right but almost two textbooks in the sense of he was so into me straight from the beginning
Starting point is 00:22:10 without it kind of just growing in building. So I took that as, oh, he really likes me. And then his facade was only kept up for about three weeks. Then he realized, oh, I can't keep this up. So I think it's, I think it's more in our generation now that a lot of guys, they kind of have this love bombing idea of if I tell the girl the right thing for two, three weeks, I'll get what I want with them. And then they wind up not liking you. And wait, get what you want? What do you They'll talk to you and they'll take you on dates and they're like, oh, actually, I don't want to date you, but I really did like you. And they'll tell you all the things like you could be an amazing wife one day. I could see you as a mom one day. They just say all these things. And then they decide they don't want to date. They're like, actually, you know what? No. So it's hard to clock that because they say everything. Right. You sound so. I'm killing old Susan all of a sudden. It's okay. My parents always took home with like, I just feel so bad for you guys dating now. days, I feel for you. I said, yeah. Wow. Well, wait, did you, I, regardless of whether you're
Starting point is 00:23:08 dating now or not, I'm not going to push you anymore, but did you do dating apps after the show? My friend and I made a hinge for a week, and I just, I, I couldn't, I, I, I didn't like it. For a week. I felt like, I felt like we had to audition to strangers, like, this is what I have to offer you. And I was like, I don't know if I like that idea. Okay, so there's another difference. I have never when I was on Dedy Naps I never ever felt like I was auditioning. Did you
Starting point is 00:23:40 Susan? No. Maybe it's L.A. Maybe it's Or maybe it's age confidence. I don't know. Yeah, maybe it's an age thing. I think, I mean I'm hoping whatever my future husband is, whatever he's doing, he's going to be nice and easy going.
Starting point is 00:23:56 Uh-huh. I saw a look over there. She keeps looking over there. She keeps looking over there. It's hysterical. He walked past the window and he had his phone and then he texted me. So I was like, I'm doing something. He texted you just now? Yeah, because he walked past the window and I was like, I'm still talking. Okay.
Starting point is 00:24:15 He knows you're doing a podcast. Well, what's your red flag, Kathy? Oh, are you kidding me? I got a whole flotilla of my flags. My most favorite one is if somebody's rude to a waiter or waitress, a server, forget about it. needs to be a crossboard for everybody. Absolutely. He's not going to change.
Starting point is 00:24:37 You know, I don't, yeah. I mean, that is, I agree with that one, Susan. I don't know. I used to have so many red flags. I think one, if they don't get along with their family, at least somebody in their family, like I don't get along with all my siblings, but, you know, I love my parents and I'm very close with one of my, I think though, if a. guy says to me, you know, I don't really talk to my family or worse yet, my kids at my age
Starting point is 00:25:07 or age, you have kids. I don't really talk to my kids very often. I'm like, eh, that's a red flag. Yeah. Yeah. I, wait, I want to ask you guys a real quick question. Oh, go. Okay. So if, if, okay, this happened to me recently, so that I'm going to ask it. I was, before I started doing all that, I was talking to somebody. And my dad always raised me that if a guy's going to pursue you is going to be so obvious. like he will make it very known that he will do anything to see you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:36 So we're a long distance because I always do long distance because I'm insane. And I'm working on that. I'm unpacking that with myself. And he asked me to visit him. And I was like, oh, well, actually I'm going to be going to a city near you for something and I have three trips around it so I could stop by.
Starting point is 00:25:52 But I was paying for my other trips. So I just asked him and I was like, would you want to like, would you want to pay for my ticket or we could split the ticket? Because I'm going to see you. And he ended things. with me and he was like, wait, wait, wait. I'm sorry, you have to back up. You were going on business to three different cities and he lived near one of the one of those cities. She was going to have to
Starting point is 00:26:13 go out of her way to get another ticket. So you're exactly, so you have to get a fourth ticket if you want to go see him. Right. And how long had you been dating this guy? We were only talking for almost like a month, over a month and a half. We were just talking. So we were going to meet and absolutely throw his butt to the curb. Just let her finish cap. She just said he ended it. I asked him so then he ended it with me, which it was like, fine. I prayed about it. I was like, whatever.
Starting point is 00:26:38 But he was like, yeah, I just didn't think you were like that. And I was like, what? He's like that type of girl who just needs money. And I said, oh, I don't need money. And he was like, yeah, this isn't going to work. Like I just, I don't want to feel like you're just using me. I said, okay. Okay, that's fine.
Starting point is 00:27:02 And my dad was like, what a wussy. I'm like, my dad, like, you want me to pay for an airline ticket to come see you. I've never met you before. You don't want to split it with me. But where were you going to stay, Rachel, with him? Yeah. You never met him in person. You were going to see.
Starting point is 00:27:19 To me, that's like you were signing yourself up for potential, you know. I'm missing on daylight, yeah, 100%. I don't think that one. I know. And I tell my parents, and they're like, what a, they're like, That's fine. You're like with you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:33 My guy, if I wanted money, I'd be talking to like, I mean. Not you. Well, was this guy wealthy? I don't probably on the same. I think we were on the same like salary. I think it's, I don't think it's a red flag. I think it's like I said, if he hadn't said to you, it's over. I think that's nuts.
Starting point is 00:27:50 And the fact that that is a huge red flag, you know, if he said to me, well, this isn't going to work. I'm breaking up. I would have said to him, oh, no, no. to know, you just missed it. I just broke up with you five minutes ago. There was nothing to break up with. They hadn't even met in person. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:08 So when, I mean, when he said that, I kind of was confused. And then obviously I was, I was like me being, I think me trying to, what is the word, fix it? I was like, no, I'm saying. It's what I'm asking? And then I have to clock myself and what am I doing? It's like, dude, it's fine. Backpedaling for this? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:24 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We're good. We're good, babe. We're good. Nice talking to you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:30 I find that surprise. Susan, don't you find that surprising that a guy wouldn't say? Sure. I find that stunning. Because I think it's so different now. And I'm so old-fashioned. I blame my dad for it. I'm so old-fashioned. So, like, when I meet guys. You expect that, yes. They think so differently. A gentleman. I think what you should have done, though, was said to him, you know, I'm making it up. you know, Chicago, meet in a, in a city close, say, let's meet at a neutral place. He could have come to your city, wherever you were going to be. Or you should have said that.
Starting point is 00:29:07 Why don't you come to my? Better to her to find out now. It was a whole thing. Honestly, I was like, good, it worked out perfectly because I enjoyed my three trips that were separate. I'm happy now. Whoever you are, sir, you missed perfection. Yes, let me tell you.
Starting point is 00:29:25 Your loss. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly, and now I'm seriously suspicious. Well, wait a minute, Sam, maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon. This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now, hold up.
Starting point is 00:29:52 Isn't that against school policy? That sounds totally inappropriate. Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend. former professor, and they're the same age. And it's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him
Starting point is 00:30:07 because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. All right, Wes West, West, Prop here from Hood Politics with Prop Podcast. You already know our get-down. If you grew up in our urban areas of comfort of struggle, you understand politics much more than you giving credit for.
Starting point is 00:30:30 Feds taking over American cities, government hop-out boys, hopping out the van, snatching up your theo in them, two wars that was supposed to be solved in 24 hours. Jerry just out here, mandering all over the place, the turfs. And of course, the Epstein of it all. Well, this week we decided to shoot our shot,
Starting point is 00:30:49 and boy, did we pull up from the logo, to see if we could get somebody to come tap in with us. And the one and only Jamil, Hill pulled up from this politics podcast to keep it a whole century. The American public is used to being entertained. We're a consumption society. So what Trump figured out is entertain them and they'll never question you. Listen to the hood politics with prop podcasts on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:31:13 or wherever you get your podcast. My name is Ed. Everyone say hello, Ed. Hello, Ed. I'm from a very rural background myself. My dad is a farmer and my mom is a cousin. So, like, it's not like... What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club?
Starting point is 00:31:29 I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke, but that really was my reality nine years ago. I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different. On stage stood a comedian with a story that no one expected to hear. The 22nd of July 2015, a 23-year-old man had killed his family. And then he came to my house. So what do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? A new podcast called Wisecrack, where stand-up comedy and murder takes center stage. Available now.
Starting point is 00:32:09 Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Super Secret Festi Club podcast season four is here. And we're locked in. That means more juicy cheesement. Terrible love advice. Bells to cast on your ex. No, no, no, no, we're not doing that this season. Oh, well, this season, we're leveling up.

Our new super secret bestie is the diva of the people. The diva of the people. I'm just like text your ex. My theory is that if you need to figure out that the stove is hot, go and touch it. Go and figure it out for yourself.
Starting point is 00:32:52 Okay. That's us. Where is the head? That's us. My name is Curley. And I'm Maya. In each episode, we'll talk about love, friendship, heart breaks, men, and, of course, our favorite secrets. Starting point is 00:33:15 I never envision being with a woman. I'll just be honest. I'm Jamel Hill, host of the Sports and Politics Podcasts, Spolitics. On this week's episode, I'm joined by Basketball Legend, Candice Parker, who stops by to discuss her candid new book, The Can Do Mindset, in which she shares why she waited two years into marriage to come out. Like, when I close my eyes at night, every night, I was like, I need to find my prince charming. Like, it was never a princess. Like, that never entered into my mind. But, you know, as I learned, sometimes life gives you things wrapped in the package that you didn't.
Starting point is 00:33:52 expect it. And that was just, you know, and honestly, it took me a long time to be okay with myself. Make sure to listen to this week's episode of Spolitics on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. All right. We are going to, we're going to move on because you clearly have opinions, Rachel, which I love. We're going to give some advice to a fan. So weigh on on this one. Here we go. I need your help. My boyfriend and I have been together for about three months and he won't pay for my airline ticket. No, I'm kidding. I made that up. I'm kidding. My boyfriend and I have been together for about three months and everything has been
Starting point is 00:34:37 awesome until the other day. After having to stay with his family for months while his apartment got some serious work done, my boyfriend was finally able to have me over at his place for the first time. When I walked in, I was horrified. For context, he's been settled in for about a week. He does not take good care of his dog. The carpet smells like pee. There's dog hair everywhere. The bowls are dirty, and he doesn't take it for a walk. He only lets it out in the backyard. After trying to ask about the dog in a low-key way, I found out that he's had the dog on his own, like not living with his family for three years. Is this breakup worthy?
Starting point is 00:35:22 I'm shocked that he'd treat his dog this way. And after seeing his apartment, I am it out. Am I overreacting? And how can I get this dog to have a better life? Thanks so much. What says you, Rachel? I feel like I don't need to say much. No, we don't.
Starting point is 00:35:41 If anyone did anything to my dog, I would kill them. So, yeah, this is breakup worthy. Definitely, definitely. Let me just say, I just got back from Costa Rica. Osta Loego, buddy. Yeah, you're like, no. Adios. Che, Bella.
Starting point is 00:35:58 I would take a dog and I would leave the guy that's crazy. And I would call, what is it? It was dirty. That's my first thing. Oh, yeah, Susan Dirk does not go together. And the dog's bowl wasn't even clean. Here's the thing. To me, if a dog, if he treats a dog, and I'm being serious,
Starting point is 00:36:15 if he treats a dog. Like that and treats an animal that can't fend for itself, that can't vocalize and can't, you know, negotiate or speak. What, how will he tweet a human being? It's like pre-Jeffrey Dahmer. I mean, he was at 10 years old. Like, no. And the other part of this, we don't know who you are, but anonymous, the other part of this question, how do I get the dog to have a better life? if you feel so inclined
Starting point is 00:36:45 offer to take the dog off his hands but I'm guessing the answer to that one's going to be now. He's had the dog for three years and now the dog wait he was having this apartment redone right bunch of work why does the carpet smell like pee that's the amazing thing he says well
Starting point is 00:37:02 if he's been settled in for a week and the place was just redone and the place already smells like pee run girlfriend run yeah I was going to say run and take the dog run and take the dog steal the dog yeah i mean i mean can't you call animal protection there's like a number you can call no because there's no law against
Starting point is 00:37:21 letting a dog pee in the house yeah or out in the yard but unless the dog was hungry it didn't have food you know you let's i mean the fact that he doesn't walk the dog it just sounds like listen i just want to say i'm speechless here move on find yourself a new date Shue, that was an easy book. I mean, that's just, that's just. And it's only been three months. I wonder like how he was at the parents' house where he was staying if she ever went over there.
Starting point is 00:37:51 Yeah. Ew. Just, you know what? Probably the serious work he was getting done was the first time the dog peed everything. He had to get it all fixed up and now he's just starting on round two. It's just great. Definitely an ick. Definitely.
Starting point is 00:38:05 That's a red flag. Red flag. Red flag. All right, Rich, we're going to say, do you have any questions for us? I asked the question. It was that, it was that flight guy. It was the flight thing. What are you going to come to Hawaii? I would love. When are you going back to Hawaii? We had that opportunity. Remember? When? Oh, I go Saturday.
Starting point is 00:38:29 Oh, you are? How long do you be there for? Like, 12 days, maybe? Nice. Do you get home a lot? I try to go home four times a year. I try really hard. That's nice. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:41 That's nice. And from California, it's not so bad. Yeah. It's a flight. Yeah. Do you hear her? It's a quick six hour flight. That is an oxymoron.
Starting point is 00:38:53 Six hours is not a quick flight. Just saying. I know. I'm so used to them. It's better than 12. Yeah. I went home to the Philippines and that was a 15 hour flight. Yes.
Starting point is 00:39:05 From L.A. And then at a 10-hour drive, we had to do it. It was a whole thing. How often you get to the Philippines? No, not often. I've gone when I was little, then I went recently because that travel is, that's not it. It's brutal. Yeah, because our Nana's house is all the way up in the north, so it's like, it's really, really far up there. Do you say you're Nana?
Starting point is 00:39:25 Yeah. Is that the word for grandmother? Is that what you call? Yeah, we say Nana. That's what we say. No, you say Nana. It was Nona. Well, the English version, isn't that?
Starting point is 00:39:38 Yeah, Nona's Italian. Nona, yeah. Yeah, Italian. So, yeah. I'm sorry, I still can't get over that finger. I'm just looking at this finger. I'm going to try to get it. I'm going to try to get it removed at some point of this week.
Starting point is 00:39:48 I'm really trying. It's just that. It's so annoying. It seems painful. I don't know, you, but I have to say, you look, whatever you're doing. She's glowing. You're glowing. Whatever you're doing, you got to keep doing it.
Starting point is 00:40:04 I'll expect a text message from you. Oh, all you guys need know is that there's a film coming out, and I hope y'all are there when it's in a film festival. Hey, Wes, tell me when I'll be there. Rachel, when do you submit for, you know what I'm saying? When? We've missed some deadlines already for some of the big ones that we really wanted to do. So there's three coming up, which will be mid-August,
Starting point is 00:40:28 and then we could wait and we could still submit it for Kahn next year if we wanted to. because I think we're planning to go to France next year and actually go to the festival. So we'll still probably submit it next year for those ones. When is the Con Festival next year? In May. In May. Toronto Film Festival is in September, I think, right?
Starting point is 00:40:48 Yes, the deadline passed already for that. We were going to do Toronto as well. So that one passed. Austin already passed. Chicago passed. So there's a few that we're able to do. Wait, I have a stupid question. Why not wait and just submit it next year?
Starting point is 00:41:02 They're excited. I know. I think we're so excited. And we're just here to kind of get it out there. And then also, I think it's a nice idea. If we get in a film festival, we could always use the time after to fix certain things and then resubmit to something else. So there's always room for improvement. So wait, let me ask you a question of you, if it shows, let's just say it did show an awesome film festival. And then does someone buy, is the hope that someone buys the film or wants to make it a full length? What's the deal? I think our hope. this specific story where this is just us obviously shooting for the stars in the most egregious way is we would love for it to be a miniseries because there's so many things that are happening in it um but obviously it just has to go well with the film festivals and and and yes it goes well there then it's got to be recognized yes someone would be like oh that's an amazing story like let's talk about it wait oh i wish you the luck but that's how it works if someone
Starting point is 00:42:03 if someone likes it, they could say, hey, we want to buy it and make a... Yeah, yeah, you just pick it to a network. I think one of these TikTok guys, he's famous now, he wrote overcompensated. It's like this amazing show on Amazon about being gay and hiding it and dating a girl. It's like this whole thing.
Starting point is 00:42:20 I think he wrote it and pitched it and now the show blew up on Amazon Prime. So, I mean, it just has to be the right crowd that hears it, your pitch. And so that's what you want is doing all. Wow. well we wish you all the luck i hope it i hope it flies i hope you know we still did a film you guys can still see it when it's done and it's still
Starting point is 00:42:42 our baby i'm coming to the festival are you kidding yeah no come come please come we want to keep us in for and wait wait susan we haven't given up being actors in this film i just said if you need an actor when you're ready to film call you guys are on deck we have many projects in in the works at all so you guys are We're definitely.
