Welcome back to Bachelor Happy Hour's Golden Hour.
I'm Kathy.
And I'm Susan.
And thank you so much for joining us again.
We are recording this on April 6th at 1130 a.m. Pacific time.
I'm telling you, how's your weekend been?
your week, your Easter tell me.
It's just crazy. I've had a lot of sugar.
Can I just say that?
Can I just say
we hid Easter eggs out
in the yard? Well, when I say
there was a golden egg and my granddaughter
found her, she came up to me and said, Kiki,
look, the golden egg. And I'm thinking
you know, there's going to be like a $20 bill in there.
It's a dollar bill. She goes,
it's a dollar.
I went, these are bunnies busy.
I make a little basket that I brought for Stella.
Of course, the Easter bunny had hers.
And she's, what's in the eggs, Mimi?
I said, look and see.
And she's opening.
There's another one.
There's it.
There were fives.
And Chris, my son, her father said, I'll hold that for you.
She goes, no, you're not, Daddy.
Well, it was a fun weekend.
We had beautiful weather here.
And, you know, this is the time everyone wants to live in Austin.
Because it's not too hot.
It's not too cold.
It was perfect weather for outdoor Easter egg hunt.
We had a great time. And I didn't have to cook. And that's always a good time.
Well, of course, of course. And we have some Bachelor Nation news in case you've missed it.
And now that you're caught up on us, let's catch up on some Bachelor Nation news.
Let's start with Hakim. And you know we love our Hakim. He is expecting a baby with his girlfriend, Monica.
And guess why, Kathy? It's a girl.
Okay, I'm just going to be honest.
They posted this on April Fool's Day.
I was like, I literally started digging like, okay, is this a joke?
And then I thought, no, Hakeem wouldn't joke about that.
So we are so happy for them.
Didn't he just share with us how excited he was?
To get back with her, yeah.
So good for them.
I'm so happy for them both.
I think he should name their little girl, Kathy Susan.
I think it should be April for April.
Not a bad idea.
Except the baby's not going to be born in April,
but let's go ahead and confuse everybody.
That's the day that he told the world.
All right, here's the next one here.
Okay.
The Bachelorette's Casey surprises fan with a custom 3D printed gift
and Bachelor Nation reacts.
Okay, what did you think about that?
Show it.
No, no, no, that's not us.
That's not us.
He's surprised a fan with a gift.
But let me just say he also surprised us.
surprise us. Look. Look at this. He made us golden hour for our desk. I have, I have it sitting up
on my bookshop. I'll bring you yours, Susan. Yes, Kathy has mine. Very excited, very excited.
He's very talented. He, you know, he makes, he said he does it in his spare time. He just enjoys
doing it for the fun of it. And, you know, I couldn't do something on a 3D printer of my life
depended on it. Like Noah, like wrecking a room and redoing it. That's right.
Because he does it for the fun of it.
So Casey was telling me that on this, he used sparkle, gold.
Like you put in different things to make it.
This has like some gold sparkly resin.
And he was so...
When you're refinishing furniture, you can do that, you know?
Yeah, I don't do that.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay, what else we got in the news here?
Okay, I'm going to pronounce this right, I hope.
Okay, we've got Ari Lundiike,
officiates wedding for Bachelor,
fans. So honored. Hmm. I wonder who else does that. Why is it my name in print over here?
Because you have not officiated a wedding for bachelor fans, but maybe you should think about doing that, Susan.
I will certainly do that. All right. Well, let's move along here. Every week, we got our Golden Hotline.
We have some more questions here. And we are going to answer a few of them today and give our expert
golden advice. Okay. Susan, you want to start us off? I love this. Are you kidding?
Okay. Hi ladies. I'm 32, I wish, and have been with my boyfriend for four years. I love him. But every time I bring up marriage, he says, we're not in a rush. Meanwhile, all my friends are getting engaged and I feel stuck. How long is too long to wait for a ring? And how do I bring it up without sounding like I'm giving him an ultimatum? Courtney.
This is so easy.
Okay.
Kathy's like cut and dry, girl.
Say it like it is, Kath.
They've been dating for four years.
32, give me a break.
He either knows or he doesn't want to know.
He may not be in a rush, but if she wants kids,
her biological clock is ticking.
Here's the thing.
She's absolutely right.
Courtney, if you say something, it's going to come out,
sound like an ultimatum.
I would say to him, I might drop a few cute hints,
And you're right, Susan, I am cut and dried.
I would drop a few cute hints with pictures of rings.
And if he said, oh, that's really funny.
You know, maybe someday, you know what I would be doing, kicking him.
Today is the day.
Today's the day where your, you know what, is kicked to the curb.
Because four years, like, no, I'm sorry.
It is, it is.
So also have a conversation.
Like, what is your plan?
Do you have a plan?
I want to know your plan because I don't want to waste.
my time. I want a family. We're going to play this. I know you want a family, but you're only
32. We got plenty of time. Who says? 32, the body don't shrink back as fast. I want if it's
about kids. Or does she just want the ring? She just wants a promise that we are going to get
married. No, she said marriage. She said marriage. Well, I would say just put the ring on it and
I'll wait a little bit for you. But I need something showing me that that's your intention. No. No. No.
So you agree with an ultimatum then?
No.
I would show him, I would say, I would come to him and say, you know, be funny, cute and kind of put pictures of rings out.
And if he said, listen, we're not in a hurry.
I'd be saying, here's your hat.
What's your hurry?
You're out the door.
I'm not kidding.
Don't waste time on a guy who says after four years of dating, we're in no hurry.
At 30.
And I don't know if you're living with him.
Again, we don't have all the information, Courtney.
But, you know, why bow the cow when you get in the milk for free?
I'm sorry.
I'm old-fashioned.
How do I bring it up?
You just do.
Like you said, bring a picture.
This is what I want.
But do you not think they've had that conversation?
Like, are we getting married someday?
Is that the plan?
Oh, I think the answer to that is, yeah, someday we're getting married.
That's his answer.
What year?
That's an ultimatum.
No, it's not.
I'm not saying I'm going to walk.
I just want to know what year it is so I can focus.
I'm walking.
Good luck, Courtney.
Call us.
We'll come over and talk to him.
Courtney, we'll have a girl's weekend.
It'll be fine, honey.
It's going to be good.
I would say that at 32...
You don't know what hit him.
I know.
That's exactly right.
At 32, Courtney, you're not...
I think you're being very fair
after dating and being serious now.
You've dated in four years.
32 is not unreasonable to expect a ring, a commitment, a date, and a dress.
And if he's not up for that, then I would say to you, get on a dating app and see what you can find.
I would.
Okay.
There you have it, Courtney.
Good luck.
Okay, moving on to the next one.
This is from Shauna.
She says, hi, Queens.
I just got back into dating after a divorce at 45.
And wow, the apps are a nightmare.
Yes.
Yes, they are.
Let me tell you, Shauna, I'm right there with you.
everyone either wants something casual or says they want a relationship, but they act like they don't.
How do you tell if someone is actually serious about marriage or just saying what you want to hear?
Go ahead, Susan.
Well, that's a pretty tough question, huh?
I mean, it goes by their actions.
I mean, what are they showing you?
So always, Shauna, watch what a man does or a woman, whatever your pleasure is here.
watch what they do, not what they say. However, if you are on a first or second date with a guy or a gal
and you're talking about marriage, they are going to run for the hills. It's a red flag.
It's a big, it's crimson, it's bleeding. So I don't, I think you've got to give it time. You have to
give it time. Yeah. I mean, she just got back into dating after divorce. She's 45 years old. Why are you in a hurry to get
married again. She's afraid of being alone. I think you should take time for yourself and you can date.
And the man that shows you that he is making you happy when you feel so content with somebody,
that's when you know. Well, I'm with you, Susan. I have a very good friend who just turned 45
and is divorced and just got out of a relationship. And she said to me literally today, I am lonely. I'm
afraid of being alone.
So, and I told her the same thing I'm going to tell you, Shawna, which is being alone
is not the same thing as being lonely.
I think we all need to be, to learn to be alone with ourselves and be content with
ourselves.
And that will make you a better person when you start to date.
But I'm with Susan.
You know, if you just got divorced, why are you jumping back into dating?
We all bring baggage to relationships.
but maybe take a little time and kind of work on yourself
and figure out what it is you want in your next partner
because the fact that you're already saying the dating app suck
and that how do you know if they're interested in marriage?
It sounds like really all you want us to be married.
And that's never a good recipe to...
I think you should just date somebody for a while
and date different people until you find the right one.
I don't care what they say.
Are you talking about marriage?
like you said, you can't be talking about marriage from going from a dating site.
I think Shauna wants to be married and she's trying to take a shortcut. And there are no shortcuts
in good relationships. Look, we're still trying not to discourage you. What are you talking about?
You've got a guy. Stop this nonsense. Yeah, he lives really far away. Okay. Hey, Kathy and Susan,
I've been married for five years and lately it feels more like we're roommates than partners.
big fights, just no spark. Is this normal? And what's your advice for getting the romance back
without it feeling forced or awkward, Freya? That's really good. Okay, Susan, what are you going to
say, tell him, come to the front door with a can of whipped cream? What are you going to give her?
What's advice? Here it comes. I think you should surprise them, yeah. And plan a night out. And,
you know, if it's winter wear your fur coat with nothing underneath and flash them and just, wow, shock them,
shock value is good.
This is where Kathy just shakes her head and says, what that hell got into you, Susan?
You do get into the rut of roommates.
You do.
If that's marriage, you've got to keep the marriage go.
At five years?
Well, okay, I think, I mean, you're right.
Fair enough.
We were having kids after five years.
You know what I mean?
Maybe she's not in that.
It could happen.
You're right.
It could happen any time.
How do you put?
Huh?
No spark, she said.
So dress up for the bedroom.
Try something different.
Go buy some toys or, you know, try.
Yeah, you got to libe it up.
Get a weekend getaway.
Okay, now we're talking.
I think, I think get out of the routine.
You know, so basically what Susan is saying,
let me be clear here, what, Freya,
what she's saying is get a can of whipped cream with your mink coat.
Do not get the whipped cream on the mink coat,
but take your guy to a weekend getaway where you,
you then decorate yourself with cream.
Am I getting it about right there?
I don't do whipped up.
I do think you'd have to put some effort in.
You do.
And you know, some women, and maybe she's one of them,
would hope that he would think of something like that.
But if you do it, he might be shocked.
He might be surprised.
He might love it.
He might think, what's wrong with you?
I don't know who he is.
But hell, get a kick out of it.
Yeah, listen, Freya.
I don't know if it's Freya or Freya,
but it's a pretty name.
I would say to you, try something
because what you're doing is not getting you
the result you want.
So try something fun.
You know, it could be like if he loves good food,
say, you know, ask him what his favorite meal is.
Cook a great meal for him.
Turn on some music.
Light of fire.
Do something that is considered traditionally romantic.
Get a bottle of nice champagne and, you know, sit around talking about...
You might be pissed off because of what she spent, though.
You got to be careful.
Okay, I just give up here.

They believe everything,

There's an economic component
to community striving.
If there's not enough money

And what I mean by fail is they don't have money to pay for food.
They cannot feed their kids.
They do not have homes.
Communities don't work unless there's money flowing through them.

Before we move on, Susan, let's do one more question
that we were going to do with Noah,
because he is a DIY guy.
But you and I have some skills here.
So let's see how we do answering this question, okay?
Okay.
All right.
Here we go.
Hi.
So I decided to DIY peel and stick tile in my kitchen because TikTok convinced me it was so easy and would take like only two hours max.
It's now day three.
Nothing lines up.
I've repealed and restuck everything about 12 times and I somehow sealed one of my drawers shut in the process.
This is, Shanice is my kind of girl.
At this point, half my back splash is crooked and the other half is just vibes.
Do I keep pushing through and hope it magically comes together or do I cut my losses and start over?
Okay, help Shanice here, Susan.
Shanice, the handyman that lives down the street, call him now.
I'd be called him my Darryl right away because I've done projects and I go, Darryl.
He goes, why did you do that?
I said, I thought it would be easy.
It's like wallpaper never lines up.
Let me tell you what I'd be doing.
You heard what Noah said.
Wallpaper is a, you know, it's a bitch to do.
But it's back in style.
I don't care.
I'm out of style.
Here's the thing, Shanice.
Get a bucket of paint.
Rip that stuff off the wall and just paint it white.
Applying real tile and just.
Oh, no.
Applying real tile is not easy.
but I commend you,
Shanice, for trying to do it.
I honestly do some things around my house,
but I think when you, you know,
peel and stick,
like, do you remember when you were a three-year-old?
I've done it, Kathy.
I've done it.
It looked like brick back in the day.
I was in an apartment, I think.
I was trying to doctor it up.
Did it match?
Yeah, it matched, but it was like,
you could tell.
It looked terrible.
So I have to tell you,
my daughter for her nursery,
did peel and stick,
which I didn't know they made.
Peel and stick wallpaper.
Carrector's. Yeah, yeah.
No, no.
It's wallpaper, but it's peel and stick.
And she screwed up so badly.
My son's ex-wife is really good at this stuff.
She came over and fixed it.
I just, like, I can't do it.
I don't have the patience for that stuff.
No.
I can do touch of paint.
I mean, I'm not laying hardwood floors and I'm not doing tile,
and I'm certainly not doing peel and stick.
And she's, what do you do, Kath?
Oh, really? Is this where we're going?
She knows the number of the guy that's going to come and do it for you.
By heart.
I have them on speed dial, Susan.
Exactly.
Daryl's like family to me.
Are you kidding?
Oh, God.
I love that one.
I absolutely don't.
All right.
Now we're doing, Grandma Googles it.
That's the dating slang word of the week.
Okay.
So Kathy and I both have new slang.
words that people are using in dating culture and we're going to break them down for you.
All right.
Here we go.
Ready?
I'm telling you, I barely, I thought I had great command of the English language.
Every day I'm like, I'm screwed.
Here we go.
The things that make sense anymore.
I know.
Right?
Pocketing, which is dating someone, but hiding them from your life, your social media.
First of all, wait, I just want to know.
Pocketing?
Pocketing. I want to know how you, like, do you give them a fake name?
People can find us. Like, how do you do that? That's what I want to know.
Because you don't.
Or not just hiding them.
What are you going to hide the guy in the bushes? What are you talking about?
Dating someone, but hiding them. You don't want anybody else to know. Would you embarrass?
Are you ashamed? Like, what does that mean?
Oh. That's where my head went.
Oh, that's different.
I might, you know what, that's a good idea.
If I find a guy to date, I'm pocketing.
You're going to pocket you.
No, not pocket me.
I'm going to pocket it.
This is the problem with slang.
Let me just say, by the time you and I figure it out, the word isn't popular anymore.
They're on to the next thing.
You know my favorite one, but I still don't agree.
Hooking up, Kath, hooking up.
What?
Oh, hooking up.
Oh, please.
Wait, have you ever done this?
Be honest.
Have you ever pocketed it?
No.
A guy.
How can I?
Everybody knows what I do.
I'm like,
No, have you ever hit him from social media?
I have.
No.
I have.
I mean, I don't put it on social media.
Well, that's hiding.
If you're dating someone and you're hiding them by definition,
by the new modern dictionary of slang that we are creating here.
I need another word.
Okay.
All right.
I'm not cool yet.
I don't pocket.
No.
Okay.
I want to know the one more thing.
Yeah.
what you have been dating fred for a while what are your thoughts on posting a partner like
the person you're dating putting pictures of them and your activities all over social media obviously
you like it because you do it.
You got to be prepared to hear some of the bullshit because most generally 90% of the people are
so happy for you and thank you for sharing but there's another percent that actually want to
rip your heart out and they say the most mean, unkind, like horrible things about him, about me.
Can I just tell you, this is why, friends, if I start, if I am so lucky enough to meet Mr. Wright,
I am pocketing him until he puts a ring on it with a date because I am not dealing with this.
But I, you get excited when there's something new and fresh.
You know us how we fell in love.
It was so fun.
We danced on.
Could you clarify that?
You and I fell in love?
No. Okay, do the next one. Do the next one. I don't mind posted it. The only problem is when it ends, it's, well, do you post that too?
Well, funny you should say that, because read the next slang word. Okay. Cushinging.
And what is it, darling? Lining up backups while still in a relationship.
So are you cushioning? Let's get a, let's get a, this is going to be a newsbreaker on. I refuse to
say that on air.
Ooh.
Newsflash.
He's cushioning.

Hi, Dad.
And just when I said that, my mom comes out of the kitchen.
She says, I have some cookies and milk.
This is his badass convict.
Right.
Just finished five years.
I'm going to have cookies and milk at a mom.
Yeah.

I feel like it was a little bit unbelievable until I really start making money.
It's Financial Literacy Month, and the podcast, Eating While Broke,
is bringing real conversations about money, growth, and building your future.
This month, hear from top streamer Zoe Spencer and venture capitalist Lakeisha Landrum-Pierre,
as they share their journeys from starting out to leveling up.
If I'm outside with my parents and they're seeing all these people come up to me for pictures,
it's like, what?
Today now, obviously, it's like,
100% they believe everything.
But at first, it was just like, you got to go get a real job.
There's an economic component to community striving.
If there's not enough money and entrepreneurship happening in communities, they fail.
And what I mean by fail is they don't have money to pay for food.
They cannot feed their kids.
They do not have homes.
Communities don't work unless there's money flowing through them.

When I think of cushioning, I'm like, you know, a down cushion for my...
That's like sliding it up on the slide there, but I don't...
The cushioning.
Okay, now we know what it means.
Have you ever done it?
I would never answer that question.
Why did you just say I would never?
Do you think men or women do it more?
I think equal.
I think it depends on the age.
Okay.
I think it depends on the age.
I don't know why I say that.
I think younger people probably do it more than older people.
And I think younger guys do it more than younger girls.
Younger girls are all in, I think.
I don't know.
It says why do you think people do it?
I think when I would do it is when I would do it is when I
I know it's over.
It takes me a long time to end things.
So my eyes are already open.
Not that I'm going to do anything about it,
but I'm looking.
You know what I mean?
When you feel in your heart that it's not going to continue.
So in your mind, is that okay to do it?
Yeah, because you're not really doing anything.
You're just looking.
Oh, is this like you can read the menu but not sample it?
Is that where we are?
Seriously.
Have you ever done it?
Oh, God.
I can't get a date.
Never mind.
We can't even apply this to Kathy.
Hey, I will just tell you right now, I am not only pocketing, I am cushioning simultaneously.
I'm doing them both.
Wait, Kathy, is there a situation where it would be or could be okay?
If not, I mean, not for me.
I mean, come on, you know me.
And you're the same way.
Honestly.
But like I said, if your heart is done.
But then I'm different from you.
Susan. If I'm done with a guy, I'm out the door. I'm out the door because I'm not wasting my time
and I'm not wasting his time. Yeah. So I don't need to cushion. I need to pocket.
But how it's called? Actually, I need to pick pocket. Lining up backups and now lining up.
Does that mean just looking around? No, it's like when Joe's gone, I got, I'm not, I'm not,
I'm just going to tell you, I know someone in the Golden Bachelor world.
who always has a
passel, a stable of men.
And I do.
And she just kind of, and she's, you know,
she just got, well, this one doesn't look,
and I'll go with that one.
I can't, like, I can't do it.
That's called dating and I never date.
I'm always in a relationship.
I meet somebody, I get one to a relationship.
I can't date multiples.
I wouldn't, I would call them the wrong name.
Like, I am not good at that.
Have you ever done that?
I'm going to swear you.
Yes.
I have.
Yes, it's mortifying.
I've done it.
And then I lie and say something.
I'm so sorry, that's my son's name.
And I just have a fun with him.
Wait.
I'm not forgetting their name.
You forgot their name.
I'm like,
you need to start cushioning, Susan, so that you have an excuse.
You know what I'm going to do when this podcast is over?
I swear to God, I'm going to call my kids and I'm going to ask them.
And I'm going to report back if they know what pocketing is and cushioning.
I don't think so, Kath.
you don't think my kids know well they're married so maybe not i hope not i who who knows this stuff
like the young young like getting out of college is that where this word i all i can think of
can i just tell you when we have this look it up when we you have to look in a slang dictionary
when we have these things you know what i keep thinking of is this reminds me of the movie mean
girls when the which i love that movie it's my high school life but when the girl says
a fetch and she goes fetch is not a word it's not a thing and she's like this cushioning
you know who's that's a word no honey oh did you watch the movie we're not fetching like dog
bones here she's saying that's so fetch like so cool so whatever she's trying to make the word
have a different meaning like cushions are things we put on the sofa but in this case it means
lining up back up guys do we have the slang dictionary down now
the back of.
Pocketing, no man would ever fit in my pocket.
Okay, why would I say pocketing?
That is not what pocketing is.
Do I need to go over this again?
I swear to God, do you, do I need to go over it again?
It's your dating a guy.
Pocketing is hiding somebody.
It's so your friends and you're cushioning.
The guys you got lined up next don't know you're dating.
So you're pocketing that guy while you're cushioning with other guys.
Is that clear?
Yeah, I'm going to stick to my error, okay?
I'm exhausted.
Okay, Kathy, we still have a couple minutes left,
and I'm really over the cushioning and pocketing.
So can we talk about something that Noah said when we interviewed him,
can you imagine being on that show?
Like being Joan, what he was teasing her about the arches?
Like, I want to know where these arches were.
But he was like coming down, man.
He was like not having it.
It sounded to me like he was in charge.
I don't think I you know he said he got there and he didn't know what the hell he was on the show for
I know Joan when she came up the show she was like it wasn't a decorating show it was a you know a challenge show lots of competitions and I was like oh in that case why weren't susan and I asked
you know we could have jumped in the pool they picked the wrong crew but yeah you know whatever but I think that you know it comes down to what he was talking about skills um Jones
You know, some of...
He was saying about a magazine.
Like he could tell women would pick, you know,
and she has great taste.
She has great taste.
I don't know that, I don't know.
I don't know that if she's like an AIA,
whatever it's called, you know,
certified designer for your interior design.
Who knows?
But the point is some of these guys,
Brandon, they had painting skills,
you know, hammer nails, knew how to build stuff.
And he clearly, Noah clearly,
is a DIY guy.
So floors and walls.
He said he went in and knocked down a leash his wall.
I would have killed them.
They put a wall up and you walked in and knocked it down.
You were voted.
You were voted off.
You had no.
But I think that, I mean, I can't wait to get back and see the mansion myself.
I think it's great.
He won.
The mansion.
And a new dishwasher.
Oh, God.
Finally.
The whole kitchen. That was my favorite. No, that was my room in the house.
You want to go back and cook? Yes, I love that. I think you should get nowhere to come and do our houses.
Yeah, I can't. I want a condo next, Kath. I'm done.
You what now? I want a condo next.
You had a condo. You love your house. I do love the condo.
Okay, well, I'm telling you, my house, the next time within a month, I'm hoping my house has done.
If not, I swear I'm going to call Noah and say, could you come and be my house?
G.C. Get this done. I think he should have a show. I really do. Yeah. And we'll have us on it.
We'll pick the paint colors. Highlight or blue. It's a hard time.
Okay. This has been so much fun. It has. I just always love catching up with you.
