This is an I-Heart podcast.
I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the psychology podcast.
Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about how to be a better you.
When you think about emotion regulation,
you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome.
Avoidance is easier.
Ignoring is easier.
Denials easier.
Complex problem solving takes effort.

Welcome back.
Another episode, another day, another dollar.
But while this week we don't have any Bachelorette's on, we do have another fun episode planned
because we saw a lot go down in last night's episode.
You know, and I feel like we're starting to get back to the basics of the Bacheloret.
It's starting to feel like a normal season again.
you know we saw some embarrassing dates we saw some guy drama we of course uh bachelor alumni
favorites with ashley and jared and we also saw i think one of my favorite parts was the uh oiled up
juicy wrestling date um so like i said so much went down in this week but we're back on track
to give you an old-fashioned bachelorette recap and becca sorry now i'll speak
sorry i apologize for for earlier but yes okay not only do we get to talk about all that
good stuff that you just mentioned today but we also get to have on the man who got tasha's first
impression rose spencer i want you to know i almost just said claire i apologize i'm fully aware
who the new bachelorette is but let's be honest it's we're still we're still pivoting here
dibs i let's place a bet i just thought about this right now okay how long before one of the men
calls Tasha Claire.
Ooh, that's a good question.
Okay, I'm going to say this.
It definitely happened probably within the first two or three days, but I don't think
they'll show it.
Yeah, you're right, you're right.
They'll cut it out.
You win the bet because they probably won't show.
Unless he's a huge asshole, then hopefully they'll leave it in.
But I don't think, I don't think they'll show it.
It's tough.
This is, I can only imagine being in a house where your lead switches out midway through.
It's tough.
So we've got to cut them in some slack in the end.
that regard but we also want them to respect our girl tasha yeah but we're going to talk to spencer
like i said and i know we talked to tasha a little bit about spencer last week on the podcast but
i'm glad that we get to actually talk to spencer i get some questions for spencer and i know you do
too becca because yeah he kind of came in a little full of himself this is there's just no other way to
put it and let me also say something there have been people that have been talking about becca
me and saying that they feel like, you know, we say what we're supposed to say because we're
the official Bachelor podcast. And I'm going to disagree with you guys. We always speak our mind
and I'm not going to hold back. Becca's not going to hold back. We're just going to go at it.
So this podcast, actually, I know the Claire and Dell one was raw because we were tipsy. I know
the Tasha one is raw because we were tipsy. It was a big week for a lot of reasons.
It's a big way. I'm here to say we are not tipsy to.
but I want to keep it up, like keep up this energy of just, you know, being real and being
raw. That's our charm. That's why people like to come here and listen because we give you the
behind the scenes, but then we also keep it real. And maybe we've gotten a bit away from that,
but no more, no more. So I'm also detour, detour on that part. I'm back. But also here to say
that when we have Spencer on, I'm hoping he can give us some insight about what it's like,
I love that we keep saying in the house, because that's what we would normally.
say, but what it's like with these group of men, maybe he can give us some intel on
these people. And then we also know history has shown us, Bachelor history has shown us,
that the person who gets the first impression rose goes pretty far. So I'm going to assume
that about Spencer. Also, I'm going to, we're going to fill him out a bit and see what he's
like and get his take on everything that's going on. Yeah, you know, it's so funny because
I feel like night one, Spencer comes in hot and heavy and he obviously got the first impression
as you see a lot of him of him rubbing the guys the wrong way. And now in this episode, it's like,
where's Spencer? I almost forgot what date he was on because there was so much in that first week of him
and now kind of nothing. And so I don't want to say it's like a fall from grace, but I really want
to pick his brain on like, because I feel like he's so behind the scenes in this episode that I
want to I hope he was just like getting all the intel that he can share with us today because yeah
there wasn't much more than that first impression or wasn't that first kiss with him which means
he has nothing to talk about that's what he is not interesting TV he has nothing to talk about
outside of being one of the new guys and getting the first impression rose I'm just going to go
ahead and say that about him I also I mean he came in pretty cocky the first night but I'm
putting myself in the the shoes of the other men who have been there
We'll call them V-O-Gs.
Can you imagine new people coming in and breaking up your chemistry?
I would not like Spencer or the three other guys that came in at this point.
You're feeling on edge because you were here.
You've given your all.
And then you've seen that lead, leave with someone else.
Now, here come four new guys.
And Tasia gives the first impression rose to one of them.
You've got to be sitting back thinking, please don't let this happen again.
please tell me she's not going to fall quickly for this guy this is going to happen i mean that's all you know
that's your entire bachelor experience clara set a precedent for you so that's the only one you know how to
follow it's got to be pretty scary to have so much uncertainty in a different way for these men but
yeah very unpar with 2020 20 20 you know once again those damn bachelor producers do it again you know
keep it in line with the times they're like you know what it's 20 20 we got to shake things off in a way we never
Let's just F whatever we can F up right now before we get like back to the basics.
So which let's get into this because we have a lot to digest and get into before we actually
have Spencer on.
I want to, I do want to ask him a lot of questions about this past week because like I said,
I feel like he just sat back, hopefully took it all in.
Hopefully he could like give us some tea on all the drama that we saw between some of the dudes.
So we start off the episode with the grown ass man.
Now, Rachel, what were your thoughts on this date?
Yeah, so first of all, we're back to a regular season is what it seems like.
So for all those new Bachelor fans out there, which I feel like there are quite a few in 2020,
just because everyone's been quarantined, this is how it normally goes.
This is what they call a group day.
I know you didn't really see them during Claire's season.
So first of all, my first thought was these men have no idea who Ashley, I, and Jared are.
That's what I thought immediately.
They had no reaction to them at all.
So I thought this was a fun date.
I love that they broke it down into different categories.
I loved, I loved Bennett for this whole day.
My gosh, I am such a Bennett fan.
I loved everything about him.
And what I also liked about this date is we got to know the personalities of the men, right?
For the first time, we've seen Bennett, but we're getting to know more about Chasing.
And we'll get into that later.
you see tomorrow you've got ed you've got ivan joe who i'm just really waiting for joe to have his
moment because the only time we've really heard him speak is when it was at the roast with margaret
chow and i'm just going to leave that there that was the only time that we saw a real i tm with him
i'll let y'all digest that for yourself but i will say when when they insert little snippets of joe i
always really like what he has to say and i think that he i wish he wasn't so hitting because i feel like
he's actually very humorous and we don't see
enough of that. So again, everyone listen
up. Exactly. Let's not
only play him when we have another
Asian on the show. I'm
just going to say it like it as. I was so
bothered by that. Really, nobody else has an
opinion. We're going to go to Joe on this one.
Anyways. Okay.
Yeah. What were your thoughts about it?
Well, I love that they broke it up
into three totally different categories.
I mean, the beginning of the knowledge chest, like, of course
you go in watching us. Behnit's going to
crush us. You went to Harvard. You know,
He's obviously smart, and I don't know if he was just screwing with us, or if he, like, truly just like, okay, I get math as hard.
Math is not my strong suit.
I will give him that, but, like, bet it.
I will, you know, I mean, thank God he redeemed himself, but, you know, the knowledge chest, the physical challenge.
Like, that aside, I think my favorite part was the breakfast in bed because I was, I was putting myself in taceous shoes and I'm like, who'd pick out of this?
I will say I would have picked Bennett because you know I love my robes
and for all the men talking shit about Bennett's robe
girls love robes girls love slippers we love to be comfy
so whoever was knocking the robe just keep your mouth shut
yeah no I forget about you and your only thing missing were those slippers
Becca I know I was all that was missing for you I love I really liked
demar I thought you know he brought in a touch of home let us know he was from
Scottsdale let Tasha know that
as well. I mean, the one who really sucked was Chason. I mean,
Jason, we expected you to do the most simple-minded thing. And I
don't want to pick on Chasen too much in this episode, but my God, that was like, I know
he thought he was doing something so big, but again, it was really something basic that
I would expect Chason to do. But Bennett by far, by far won that. But this is what I'm going
to say too. Ed won me over in this challenge. Do you know why? Don't give it to me. He named the baby
Carlos. Do you know why he named the baby Carlos? Uh, knocked up, or not knocked up, uh, the hangover, right?
Exactly. Baby Carlos. He was so quick on his feet. And remember Bennett told us he's a really funny guy.
So the moment without even skipping a beat, he was like, baby's name's Carlos. I thought, oh, that was
witty. That was really good, Ed. I like that. Which, Ed, I will say, yeah, I feel like we're finally
to see him because each week I remember
about him talking him up and I'm like I want to see
more of him and I think
like it's the little moments that you see
Tasha interacting with the guys like you probably didn't even
quite catch it when she addressed head right at the top
of the cocktail party but it's moments like that where
he's like kind of starting to come out of his shell
and Ed's growing on me
well he grew on us
and then he lost us at the same time
so there was so there's that and we'll definitely get
to it and in Bennett's defense I will say
this as well. I too would have probably misspelled limousine. I am not good at spelling at all.
And I don't think that that's necessarily those three things that we saw them answer those
questions. I don't, I think just if you can't answer them, if you got a hundred on that test,
doesn't mean that you're getting into Harvard. And I understood what he meant when he's like,
the question is not worded in the correct way. I knew what he was thinking because he was thinking
it was a trick question and he was overthinking it.
They were very simple.
But in his mind, he was like, no, probably because actually that rose is given at this.
I know what he, I know what he was doing in Bennett's defense.
But I really, really enjoyed that.
Now, I will pause for a second because if you've watched this episode, you know that we see
the beef go down between Ed and Jason.
Now, what's so great about this podcast is we can speak to our own experience, but we
could also give you behind the scenes and maybe we have a little intel on some things.
So at this point, Becca, I'm going to you because you know Jason.
I do.
Now, we have seen a Jason on the show, but you have met Jason in person.
Are they the same?
So watching this drama go down, it's interesting because I kind of are, so side note,
if no one has listened to our podcast earlier, I've mentioned, Jason and I have a mutual friend
down in San Diego.
I've said that before.
And so from this, I've gotten to know Jason a little bit more.
And while I don't want to knock anybody, I'm going to say this.
I don't think Ed is very far off in his claims at this point in the fact that he basically
is saying Jason doesn't appear to be there for the right reasons.
He might be going after the fame.
So, again, I don't want to knock anyone, Jason.
From what I've met, which it's not much,
um, it's a very nice guy.
Like he is, he's a sweetheart.
But also, too, I think he went on the show for other reasons other than just to find
a partner in life.
Okay.
Wow.
You heard it here.
It's Chase an intellectual.
Unintellectual.
I mean, he lost me at smoke show.
Yeah.
The fact that I love, I love the humor of Bennett.
The fact that he was dying.
laughing. He was rolling over laughing at the fact that Chasen confused the noun and an adjective.
I thought, if that is smart humor, you know what I mean? Like things that you think are,
it's probably not that funny, but you know, he's so smart. He's like,
a noun and an adjective. He doesn't know the difference. Yeah, you know, I think I will say this.
Like, there's the fight between the two is weird because obviously like when you get a lot of
dudes living in the same house, fighting over the same woman, there's going to be
pent up energy and this tension and guys like not everyone's going to get along like so i i understand
that part now like i just i felt bad for ed when when jason was calling him chicken legs it's like
right i have chicken legs too it's all that was bathing you know like sometimes we just can't work
our cab muscles up but um i hate like the thing that bothers me when people fight and and we kind
of saw it in this beef between these two men is like it just got petty
Like, you know, it got into the name calling
And it's like, if you don't like somebody
Just like say it out right
Don't call somebody chicken legs
Or like make fun of how they look
Or what they're wearing or anything
It's just like
Say it in me done.
It's just
When Chasing would talk
You would play into the things
The guys were saying about him
It's like, that's all you got?
Chicken legs?
I have chicken legs.
I just was like, come on.
At times I felt sorry for Chasing
because they were all laughing at him
But then he would say things like
Tasha's a smoot.
smoke show and then he said it three or four times you didn't see what was wrong with it beckle would
you want a man who you're getting to know to describe you as a smoke show no and you know what it
reminded me of i don't what was the guy's name that she sent home that claire had sent home actually
where she's like what like what do you like about me why are you here and he's oh brandon he would
say that yes it kind of reminded me of that it's like there's so much more to any human being than
the way that they look. And yes, I understand that guys at times, like,
appearance is what you see at first. Like, of course, you don't know Tasha that well.
You're still getting to know her. But beyond that, like,
she, yes, is stunningly beautiful, but there's so much more. And if you have one
conversation with any woman, you can hopefully see that and speak on that. And he just felt
so, so flat with me. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, ladies, ladies,
a man you are really trying to get to know on a personal intimate level should not be calling
you a smoke show that comes along later is it a compliment absolutely but it's not personalized
there's no depth behind that it's and he didn't get it and that's the problem and you you can tell
tasha's over it okay when he went back to talk to tasha and she hugged him when she confronted him
about what ed had said and she hugged him her face was like i'm just here to put you on a two on one
that's really that's really what she said
and you know I'm actually
like fast forwarding now to the road sermon
I thought he was going home
I truly did no he's got to be on a two on one
come on Becca you're an OG in this game
he's got to be on a two on one
at this point I don't want to
but again like I have such a soft spot
right now for Ed so I don't want to see him go home
but can't be picking favorites right now
no you can't and so
did we okay we had a group day
we had a cocktail party
And then a rose ceremony.
Did we have, was there a cocktail party before the rose ceremony?
Did I miss something here?
Well, there was after the second group date there was.
I don't.
No, the rose ceremony came after the first group date.
It was like in between.
Oh, yeah, in the middle.
We got Tasha's first rose ceremony.
But we didn't see a cocktail because we saw what the night portion of the group date because
Ivan gets the rose.
Yes.
And then turned to the row ceremony.
It goes straight to the rose ceremony.
We saw no cocktail party.
There's so many men that were missing from this episode.
You know what I wonder why they did that, though,
is because we're piggybacking off of last week
where she just full on showed up
but didn't do a rose ceremony.
So that's why I think there's that weird placement.
But we normally get,
there's only a cocktail party or it's canceled.
Like there's an announcement.
So it was weird that that was a transition.
But I definitely had in my notes
that I have to comment on Tasha's dress
because I loved it.
It was stunning.
She looked great.
And then I want to comment on the people
who were eliminated at this rose ceremony.
Have you ever seen Peter in your life?
No, but was Peter one of the newbies that came in?
I don't know.
The only one I recognized was Jay.
So that's why I just assumed the other two were the newbies.
Montel was a new guy.
Montel was a Peter.
I have never, I am convinced that they needed a filler.
And this is when they brought in somebody from audio, camera,
lighting to fill in.
That's who Peter is.
We will see Peter.
If somebody flip the camera around,
you'd probably see Peter holding up
like a boom mic or something.
I have never in my life seen Peter.
When you say Peter right now,
I can't even picture what he looks like.
I've just picture Pilot Pete.
I've rewounded it.
I said, Peter, who is this man?
Where did he come from?
Peter, if you're listening, please let us know who you are.
No, don't because we still won't know who you are.
couldn't pick Peter out of a lineup
to date. I just, the only reason I know his
name is because it is on my notes.
I don't know Peter.
My, and I feel so
bad for him because there's always that one.
He had to have been one of the new ones. I know
Montel was. I know Noah was.
I know Spencer was and I know they're four.
So maybe it was Peter. It had to have been
Peter. My guy.
Yeah, never seen him before my life.
And speaking of never seen before
or just never, not seeing people,
there were so many men.
We did not see this episode because we saw a second group date, which was WrestleMania, and we saw repeats.
Like some of the same people who went on the first group date went on the second group date as well.
And some people, we didn't see it all.
Like Riley?
Yeah.
Where was he?
That's why I think this whole switcheroo just like maybe I'm just hoping it's this week where they're trying to like get back on track, like get back into some sort of normal.
schedule and routine because I can't I can't have the to be continued a rose ceremony in the
middle of the episode then a day it's just like I'm so confused right now but again like very on
par with 2020 and how this year is going but like fingers crossed next week it's a schedule so we can
so we can keep track on our podcast exactly uh so we get into this wrestlemania which was
super intense I love that Tasha was like um I just thought we were like you know I don't know
what you call like play wrestling I don't remember which
she was but these men are ready what she called it but these men are ready to go so you've got ben
brend and chasen easy ed joe jordan and spencer on the day we obviously know that they're going to
pair up ed and chason together um what did you think about ed's excuse for not getting in the ring
oh i mean here's the thing like if i was ed i wouldn't want to fight any i'm not a fighter so i get it
it seemed like a cop out
I will say it's like why are we like
the second you're about to go into the ring
why are we just hearing about this now
but you know
if he feels uncomfortable I mean and I will say
this we got a lot of backlash
for when we were talking about the
strip dodgeball date and how
if men felt uncomfortable like they shouldn't have to
participate so like you see that here like guys
can back out they can say no they can choose
to not partake in the date and we saw
that with him now obviously like he didn't have
to strip down naked it was something else
but like these people have a say
and that's what I want people to keep in mind
on this date is like he didn't need to go in there
and fight but I do
do feel like it was
what were your thoughts raised?
He was better off
grabbing his shoulder
in the middle of the fight
that's what he should have done.
The fact that he sat there
watched all those people go through it
the fact that he
Bennett, excuse me
Bennett had
Bennett had a knee
issue and he didn't participate
in the grown-ass man challenge, that physical part.
And he announced it before.
Ed waited and he looked sad.
He waited until the last minute and then pulled the chronic shoulder issues.
I get it.
I have a chronic shoulder issue as well.
My shoulder pops out of socket.
I would have announced that at the very beginning.
He pulled Chris Harrison over.
It was embarrassing.
He too thought it was play wrestling.
Once he saw what it was, he was like, I'm not going to lose another physical match
because he lost in the grown-ass man challenge.
She said, I'm not doing it again.
He should have faked the injury in the middle of the ring.
As soon as it started, oh, my shoulder.
Then Tasia could have come over.
She could have comfort him, rubbed his shoulder, nursed him back to health.
You got to think in a different way here.
But you know what?
It did end up working out because then we see Ed not fight, but who hops into that ring?
Who throws his name in the mix is Noah.
Now, I want to ask your thoughts on this because I have a lot of thought on
Noah and this action, but what did you think?
So what did I think about Noah?
I think it.
I mean, Tasha said, or Chris said, or Wells, I can't remember, does anybody want to step up?
And he jumped into the ring.
I mean, that's what you want.
You want a man who's going to step up for you.
And it didn't matter if five people raised their hands.
He not only stepped up, he jumped into the ring.
After seeing those brawls and people getting hurt and all that stuff, I liked it.
I appreciated the gesture.
I thought it was so hot.
I'm just going to say, when I saw Noah, he didn't even bat an eyelash.
He was like, hell yeah, count me in, hopped over that fence.
I was like, okay, this, and this is the thing.
When the men were complaining about like, oh, he's breaking the rules.
He's not even on the state.
Who cares?
Who cares?
If Tisha's cool with it and he's making this gesture, this grand gesture, he's not the only one who can hop a fence.
If no one wants to do it too, let's let him.
Becca, she's got beads of sweat
dripping down her face
and she's saying this right now.
No, those men were just jealous
that they didn't think of it first.
And I liked it.
Noah didn't skip a beat and that's what you want.
In the words of Claire,
I just want somebody who's going to show up,
who's going to show up for me.
And Noah did that.
I mean, his mustache entered the ring
before he did, but still, he got in there.
I don't know if it was him speaking or his mustache.
It's hideous.
Horrid.
Horrid.
okay I so many of the guys are talking shit about the mustache I personally don't think it's terrible
you hear that Noah no no no I'm not saying I don't I think Noah God bless you but like
he's still young you know he's got to grow up and like maybe it's like the Midwestern in me
and so many of my guy friends would have mustachees growing up that I just like I thought it was cute
it's got to connect to something it can't live alone unless you're
Tom Selleck, it can't
live alone. It's got
to connect to a beard,
a goate, a soul
patch. I wonder what
he has right now. I wonder if he
has the stash back or if he's
beardless, face,
whatever, this facial hair
list. Or if is he
burly now? Who knows?
It's, ugh. Food gets in it.
It's just, oh. I will say
this, though, when men have mustaches and they eat,
sometimes the scent does not
go away and that is what would get me.
Like if I was Tasha kissed him and...
Rose.
Well, apparently
Tasha thinks like we do
because the mustache
didn't make it to the end of the episode.
It didn't get a rose.
It did not.
But, you know, again,
like we see Tasha
allow Noah to come on
the cocktail portion of the evening,
which of course, like the guys didn't like.
They weren't happy about it.
But again, you know, it's Tasha's show.
like she's calling the shots and so she wants in there and he stuck out like good for her like
rules are meant to be broken at times and um i also love that i thought when all the men were like
where's noah where's noah and he's in in the mirror prepping himself to like say his goodbyes and
and i love that he actually let tasha do the honors of removing it um Noah's a star and he's a
gift i i liked Noah yes he if i was one of the the men in the house i can understand how
it's a little annoying, but don't be jealous because you didn't step up.
Noah has come in.
He has made his presence known.
He's a star.
We love it.
He's good TV.
And what I also like in this whole moment is the stark contrast between the way Noah is
operating versus Ben.
Noah doesn't wait.
He takes chances.
He goes for it and he doesn't care what the other men think.
As opposed to Ben is also has his own strategy.
and then we see how that works out for him.
Yeah, it doesn't work.
And we've, Rachel, I feel like we say this every episode or sorry, every season.
There's always somebody who thinks they kind of have it in the bag and that their connection
is so great and they sit back and they're relaxing and taking it easy.
And that never, ever works out in anyone's favor.
Like, time is of the essence here.
You don't know how long a night or a date is going to last.
And so you can't just sit back and hope and wish and pray.
Like, you have to be in there asking for your time with that point.
person. And Ben clearly didn't do that. Nope. He didn't do it. And then we see basically that it
doesn't work out for him in the end. But we're left with the cliffhanger, which these days they
tend to do. So yeah, I guess we'll have to see how that works out for Ben in the future because
I, and I wanted to ask you this too, because I haven't at this point, who do we think Artatia's
top men? And Ben is on my list. And I don't know if I need to put a line. I don't know if I need
strike through his name after how this episode ends but who is on your list your top four
of who they've shown tasha really likes i don't quite honestly at this point i don't know if i
can give you for the only man that comes to mind that i i know for sure because i feel like it's
there's so much like distraction going on with the other dudes the only guy right now is i would
say brendan yeah she really i mean she said the show shut down yeah claire very clear ask
We're going to have another Claire.
We don't know.
That's the men's fear.
You know, like, I thought she was into Spencer and then this episode, we don't really see him.
And then at the top of this episode, she was into Jason.
And then that went the other way.
So I would say, and Ivan, because he got the group date rose.
Those are the only two at this point I can say.
Yeah, on my list, she calls Ivan a dark horse.
So that stood out to me.
Obviously, we talked about Brindon last week.
So we know she's into Brinand.
But she and Ben are.
kind of giddy around each other right like they make each other nervous she said obviously i'm
attracted to you so there's definitely something there but i don't know if that's over with at this point
after the way this episode ends so we should see those are those are my top top i guess was that
three people are named for her at the moment based on what we've seen so far because this is the first
vol tisha oh wait it's the second the second second yeah one it's such a stark contrast from clara because
obviously since I won
we knew who Claire was picking
in with Tasha it's like I don't know
yeah we have to wait and find out
we don't know but I but I am
appreciating that we're getting
to know these men
except for Peter
I feel like you know what I also feel like
they're like we've had enough Peters at this point
you're Peter you're out of luck
kind of like who was it Tyler C
Tyler C he's like
Ben there done that we need a new
fresh crop of men
new men's names here
if you want to apply for
this show and your name is Tyler, Peter, or Hannah, you should reconsider or have a nickname when
you come on the show because we've had enough. We've had enough. Yes. Oh, God. Amen.
Oh, sorry, keep going. No, I was going to say, listen, I mean, we, I think we, we summed up the episode
pretty, pretty darn good there. And at this point, there's nothing else left to do, but talk to Spencer.
Now, we're very interested in talking to Spencer. And let's hope he has.
more to say on this podcast than we saw in tonight's episode. So without further ado,
let's welcome Spencer to the podcast. Well, Spencer, hi, how's it going? I'm doing well. How are you
guys? Good. We're fantastic. Thank you for asking. I want to ask now, obviously a lot has gone
down. We know that you've been on the show, but to kick things off, how have you been during
quarantine and going from the show back to quarantine? How has life been for you?
life has been pretty normal actually
I mean
quarantine's kind of a loose term I feel like
nowadays things have been a lot more normal
than for let's say like April or March
that's for sure like restaurants are for the most part
you know they're pretty much open and people are gathering
especially younger people are gathering whether or not it's
legal you know whatever
but it feels pretty normal right now
and so it's been good
So are you a fan of the show?
Did you even know who Tatia was?
I did not know who Tasha was.
And I hadn't seen a full episode prior to going on the show.
That's the best way to go in, honestly.
Yeah.
Oh, God, this is so interesting because obviously now from what we've seen,
you were under the assumption for a while that it was going to be clear you were meeting
and then pivot to you now being the second batch of men coming in.
Do you think in the long run that that help or hurt you coming in the second round?
I guess it depends how you look at it.
In terms of being comfortable on the show,
it absolutely would have helped to be the first round.
But then again,
that would have given me a lot higher chance of getting eliminated.
So perhaps I wouldn't have even been there.
Coming in later, there's definitely dynamic there with all the guys who have already been there
and the new guys shown up.
So, you know, if I were to do it again,
I probably would do it the same way,
minus the quarantine period.
Like, I would be fine with coming in later
if I didn't have a quarantine for that long.
Well, let's talk about how you came into the show.
Because you seem so nice right now, Spencer.
That's not how you walked on to the set, okay?
Let's just talk about it.
And I don't know if this plays into you saying
about being comfortable or not,
you know, but I'm going to throw you a bone here that I can only imagine what that must have felt
like knowing that all these men have been here. They've probably established their friendships,
you know, clicks in the house. And then here you come in. What was, did you have a strategy?
Let's just start there. Did you have a strategy coming into all of this?
If only I knew then what I know now. Like I had no idea.
that they had been put through the ringer with Claire.
And quite frankly,
I'm walking into the room,
meeting these guys,
and I'm kind of guessing
that it's going to be like a locker room vibe.
They're like spirits are up, et cetera.
We've got a new Bachelorette.
Not the case whatsoever.
And I have to take full responsibility of the fact
that I misread the room.
I said things that if I were to do it again,
I would never say.
So to answer your strategy question,
No, I did not have a specific strategy.
I was just going in there to be myself.
I'm like full disclosure.
Like, I'm a moron.
I say stupid things all the time.
And that, no, I did not have a strategy.
So I want to know because night one, obviously, we saw you come in hot and heavy and rubbing the guys the wrong way.
And they weren't, I mean, to begin with, I get it.
They weren't thrilled to have this new crap of dudes come in.
I understand that.
I think you set the tone when you were like, oh, which one of you guys scared Claire away?
Fast forward now to this episode the next week.
We don't see a ton of you.
You know, you're kind of hidden because there was a lot of other drama going on.
Do you feel like you kind of warmed up to them at that point?
Or did they embrace you more?
Or did you kind of read the room a little bit better at that point?
Yeah.
So you'll see or I guess this will, well, any,
Anyway, at the first, at the conclusion of the first group date, the guys kind of confronted me, Kenny specifically, and was like, yo, like, we think you're kind of coming across as a dickhead.
And I was like, okay, like, why?
And there's a, like, that was a very long talk in and of itself, and you only get to see a small portion of that.
But that was actually like a very productive talk.
And they kind of said their piece.
And I said, okay, you know, give me a chance more like.
you guys will see my true colors
and from that point forward
I definitely had to earn their
like respect back I guess
so I did over the course of the next
few days and weeks
etc but yeah
moving forward it was not as nearly as dramatic as
that scene
did you feel like you had a target on your back after getting the first
impression rows
I mean I think anyone who gets the first impression
Rose is going to have a little bit of a target on your back. I did myself no favors saying the things
that I said. But yeah, maybe a slight one, but like I said, that's not a reason to dislike or
like someone. And again, if I could, if only I knew then what I knew now and if only I could do it
again, I would have gone about it in a much different way. Can I be honest with you? Do you know when
you lost my respect? No, I don't, but go on.
when you and Tasia were sharing a moment,
it might have been at a cocktail party and you have the popsicles.
And you, do you remember this part?
And you bit into the popsicle with your teeth.
You lost me.
I was smart.
Okay.
There's a specific reason why I did that.
Why?
I am not going to be caught on camera sucking on a popsicle.
For all of my friends to see for the rest of my life,
I did that very, very intentionally.
That was smart.
You're right.
You got me there.
My sensitive teeth are cringing right now.
I died.
I did that all of the purpose.
I was like, lost respect, possibly.
I love that.
That's the moment.
So vivid.
I felt it.
A chill went through my body when I saw it happen.
All things for them to choose there.
Come on.
But you're right, though.
That was the only way.
It was the only way.
I had to do that.
That was smart.
When you got the first impression rose, you hadn't watched the show before.
Did you know what that meant?
Did you understand that?
Yeah.
I mean, I knew the background of the show.
I knew what the first impression rose meant and how much history there is with people who win the show and the first impression rose.
So after I received the first impression rose, like, I,
was so I wasn't I was surprised for sure because I came in and I think any person has confidence in
themselves but to actually think you're going to get the first impression rose is like I don't know
it's kind of a like pipe dream so to speak so I did know how it works and I did know the significance
of it and so that made me pretty nervous I think and I was just like holy cow like this is
getting so real like I might be engaged in two weeks and that was and for and for you and I think I
asked tation this last week too because it's one thing to go into a full season you know two months
worth knowing that you have the potential to get engaged at the end of it it's another to come
halfway through with a new crop of men and another batch of men that have already been waiting there
that have done this for a few weeks so did you feel like there was even more pressure at that point of
like holy crap this is getting real but like we don't have that much time yeah 100% like
it was a such an accelerated bachelorette experience and it was again I knew that and I was just like
like thought it was just a wild time like it was just so crazy that all that was just happening
yeah 100% sorry my dog was uh licking up her water when you started talking to you guys heard a weird
noise no my dog knocked my cord off like that's why I keep like bending
down um so because you came in and you were if you were a polarizing figure when you came in
did you make friendships in the house okay there were guys that definitely took what i said
more personally than others for sure and um luckily i had one immediate friend who was Noah who
was another guy who came in late with me he was my roommate at that point and so you know we
were roommates, you know, everyone who, everyone's roommate, I feel like you always make a connection
there. But it definitely took a little while for guys to warm up to me and rightfully so. Like I,
I would have hated me watching myself at that point. So,
are you, um, are you in the group chat? That's really telling. I'm in the new chat. You made it.
You made it to do the group chat. I'm not worried about you. Who's not in the group chat? I think
they all are in the group chat. I have to. I have to.
I will be honest, I wasn't
in the group chat on this. That's because you
won. I wasn't, I wasn't
no, Brian, my
husband, Brian, um, it was
never in the group chat. Yeah.
Brian and I can start our own group chat.
He was never in it.
Wait, so wait, are there, are there
people that are, so there are people who aren't in it?
Yes. Okay. You could, yes. Here's
one. Yosef. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Fuck him.
so spencer obviously you know you have your experience from the show what do you think it's going to be
like for your family and friends to now watch you back are you excited are you a little nervous and
hesitant do you think they're going to call you out for your actions i will absolutely be called
out and i think that excites them 100% they're ready for it oh my friends are licking their chops
right now. They cannot, I guarantee you, I'm just never going to hear the end of it again,
rightfully so. I'll put myself in that position. But yeah, as soon as I know more, maybe I'll report
back. How did you get on the show? Funny story, actually. It was my 30th birthday, and a young gal
reached out, didn't really know what it was about at first, and I was kind of like, oh, happy birthday
to me.
Maybe I'm The Bachelor.
Yeah, but anyway, I didn't know what it was at first.
It was a vague message, and I had a conversation with the gal and had a few more, and then
fast forward a few months.
I'm in the back of a cab on the way to Palm Springs.
When's your birthday?
April.
What day?
April what?
You're talking to two April babies here.
Ninth.
Oh, April 3rd?
You're an Aries.
Mm-hmm.
I'm a tourist good month
what are you rich
I'm a tourist but
technically according to the
Eastern astrology I'm an aries
I've just learned this
I can't with this I can't with
this different styles of astrology
apparently we've been doing it all wrong
which I feel like you could say about
everything and apparently there's another
did you watch the Netflix thing where they
like debunked astrology
essentially
no what documentary is this
it's all my love
I'm going to watch it.
I'm going to watch it.
Rachel, let's watch you for that.
Yes, thank you.
Appreciate that.
And then we'll figure out my aneagram number.
Spencer, I have two questions for you because, you know, this week you kind of did sit back.
You weren't causing this much drama, but we did see drama go down between Chason and Ed.
And, you know, you, I mean, for Rachel and I, we're just viewers.
We only saw a little bit of this drama take place.
So in New York, I guess from your experience of living with both of them,
kind of whose side are you on?
Like, do you think Ed was more in the right and Jason was in the wrong?
Or when that was all going down, what were your thoughts?
Because I had been going through so much shit, I was like, yeah, I'm staying out of this.
But having said that, I could see kind of both points of view to an extent.
I just didn't know what Ed's motivation was for saying it
I didn't think that he needed to do that
even if he felt like Jason was there for the wrong reasons
I don't I just didn't understand why he like was going out of his way
to let everyone know that I have to ask you this because I know you and
Jason both live down in San Diego and prior to having you on I did tell
Rachel like I know Jason we have a mutual friend down in that area
and from what I've gathered
I wouldn't say
Ed is too far off
so would you agree with that
but
would you say he was actually there to find love
or was it more to find a following
I would say
he was I mean
from everything he said like he was open to it
like you know if a following
cubs I certainly don't think he was a post
to that, but...
I'm looking up Chasen's Instagram right now.
He's not verified.
I just, I mean, you probably know him much better than I do.
He has 29.7,000 followers.
It's not looking too good for all of Jason.
Jason's my buddy.
I'm not saying a damn thing.
Jason's my boy.
I'm going to defend him, actually.
But I will say this.
And I don't want to talk bad on him because I, and I told her to this.
I think he's a sweetheart, he's very nice.
Yeah, I just...
I want him dating one of my girlfriends right now.
Probably not.
That's all I'm going to say.
But anyways,
let's pivot.
Jason,
I get why Jason acts the way he does.
I'm going through his Instagram.
Okay.
Are Jason and Ed?
You're judging hard right now.
Yeah, I am.
Are Jason and Ed in the group chat?
Are they both in?
Are they both in?
Yes.
Okay, okay.
That's good.
Okay, so let's get more into the tea of it all because you are there.
Okay, Becca and I were there as well.
We are both a part of Tasha's season, but, you know, we don't have the inside scoop like you do.
So, who were you closest with on the season?
At the location, Noah, who is my roommate, honestly, I wrong with enough, Ed and Chason, Blake Moynes, probably, Ivan.
Yeah, those probably are the closest.
A handful.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But you said on this, when you were.
there. So it's changed now. So now who are you closer with? Geographically, um,
Jason lives like blocks away from me. So, oh, that's cool. Yeah. We happen to run into each other.
We bump into each other every now and then. At the Saturday Farmer's markets. Well,
Spencer, we have so many more questions for you, but we have to get into our game. We love our games on
bachelor happy hour. So we want to play a quick one with you before you head off. Um,
so obviously you made quite a first impression on Tasia. And we want to know,
which one of your castmates made the best first impression on you.
So we're going to call this little game first impression rose, not rose.
So this time you have the power, you have the rose,
and we're going to ask you a bunch of superlatives and give you and have you give your rose
to the castmate that you think it best fits, okay?
So to start it off, who had the best abs?
Have the best abs?
Mm-hmm.
Ooh, I'll give it to Kenny.
Kenny.
Everyone gives it to Kenny.
I got to rewind and go back and look at Kenny.
Take a good look.
I feel like I missed this.
Who was the funniest?
Easy's got that one.
Easy.
We had him on the show.
He's great.
Who took the longest to get ready?
I'll go with Noah on that one.
He's the only one I saw first hand.
The boy is messy and the boy takes a while.
did you have to like oil up the mustache and comb through it and make it perfect prior prior to the shave he is not afraid to walk around naked and i was just like trying not to look at anything going on he seems like that type of person i'm not that doesn't surprise me at all with him who was the shadiest
shadiest shadiest i guess i don't know as if you say shady in terms of like mysterious or shady in terms of like
You know what I mean.
Sketchy.
Or maybe we'll put it like this.
Like, who threw the most shade, right?
Like, kind of, we'll do it like that.
Who threw the most shade?
Bennett.
I knew you're going to say that.
Oh, this is what I meant to say about Bennett, too, when we were recapping.
You said, you didn't know, Spencer, you said, I don't know where Ed's motivation came from.
And I'm like, it was Bennett.
In this episode, Bennett literally sets Ed up.
just lets Ed go.
He gets Ed all riled up.
He had the same opinions as Ed,
but he let Ed do all the talking.
It was Bennett.
It was Bennett.
It was Bennett.
I feel like Bennett's so smart.
He could be a producer.
I love Bennett.
He could do it.
Okay.
Who was the most romantic?
Most romantic.
That's a tough one,
but I'll go with,
I'll go with Brendan.
he's just so he's the nicest guy ever
like I have to hand to him
he seems like that he seems very nice
he's funny too he kind of came out of
Michelle this episode
well I mean obviously he did last episode
when he was just with Tasha but with the guys
we're seeing so much more of him now
I think you already answered this question but who was the messiest
yeah I know it earns that one for sure
who was the nicest
I mean you also didn't answer this one
yeah I mean
Brendan is yeah for sure I'll go
Brennan again. Okay.
Who was the most athletic?
Most athletic. Sheesh.
I'll give it to easy.
I mean, he's the NFL guy, so I don't know.
Yeah.
Who was the biggest drama queen?
I'll go with,
sheesh, don't hate me, Noah,
but I'm going with you again.
yeah no fitting from what we've seen so far but you weren't the first person we had i think it might
have been easy when we had him we asked like who who was like the biggest ham in front of the
camera and he also said noah did he mm-hmm i think it was easier been at one of the two
biggest ham like we asked like a hot ass mess like loved like would eat up the camera time
and like play it up kind of and and whoever it was said noah
Noah is great TV, and I appreciate that.
Like, there's an art to be in good TV.
How many siblings does he have?
He has, like, 11 siblings, right?
So him being around so many people and, like, trying to fight for that attention,
I don't think he's new to him.
Yeah, no, I'll go with, Noah's my boy, but he's not afraid of controversy.
Let's put it that way.
Who had the purest intentions?
That's hard.
I honestly don't think many guys had ill intentions.
Having said that, I'll go with Ivan.
Okay.
Yeah, he seems like that.
So swapping that question now, who was there for the wrong reasons?
Gosh, darn it.
You didn't think we were going to let you go that easy, did you?
Yeah.
Who's there for the wrong reasons?
I don't know
I'm not I don't know
Spencer
I don't know
I don't know
I'm in hot water enough
alright I guess
listen can I tell you what I appreciate
about this game
not in not one
question
that we asked you
did you name yourself
and I'm going to tell you
that's pretty humble of you
whether you meant to do that or not
I appreciate that you didn't name yourself
you made it about the other men in the house
if you were to name yourself
For something, what would it be?
I'll go
I'll go messiest.
Okay.
So you're taking Noah's place.
Yeah, I'll take Noah's place for messiest.
He's just one wrong below me.
Safe answer.
That's be pretty bad because you called him out.
You being messy as well.
It's bad.
Does he smell?
No.
I'm sorry.
No, he's got plenty of cologne on.
He smells good, actually.
Okay, I just had to ask you that message.
Okay, who smelled the best?
I just, like, I know that's a weird question to ask you, but who did smell good?
You know, I didn't smell everyone, but I'll go with actually Damar.
Okay.
I did meet him on one of the dates, and I remember one of the dudes smelled really good.
It was probably Damar.
Must be DeMar.
They're also all very sweaty.
Yeah, like, you can't blame him there.
Spencer, I feel like you've come on this podcast and you have redeemed yourself.
You know, maybe when they say don't judge a book by its cover, we probably shouldn't have done that.
You seem like a really nice guy.
You know, maybe, you know, you came in the wrong way, but it seems like you quickly learned the error of your ways, error of your ways.
I would like to think so.
Well, Spencer, thank you for joining us.
Wait, I have to ask you, is this your first podcast that you've done?
first podcast.
Oh, welcome.
You know, the newbies on here.
I love it.
Well, thank you for being with us.
Yeah, my grandmother's going to be pumped.
Thanks for having me.
So, I'll go back to the group chat and tell them we weren't that hard on you.
I feel like people were scared, like, oh, gosh, what are they going to say?
It depends.
But go back.
Tell them we're great and we're nice.
I'll give you a glowing recommendation.
Thank you.
Oh, thank you.
But when they come on here, I'm going to flip.
I'm going to be totally different.
depending on who it is
yeah fair
well you guys are pretty easy on me
so given the fact that
you know I was kind of
the villain episode one
so couldn't be that bad
you stuck around
we'll see more of you
we can't wait to watch it
I'll go down so thanks Spence
can we call you Spence now
we're on that level
oh it works
all right Spencer I know I keep saying
one more question but this is the final one
before we let you go
we ask every guest on this episode
and who has gone through a season
what was your rose
So the highlight, and what was your thorn or the low light of the season?
Low light's pretty easy.
Getting a call to dickhead by Kenny was definitely the low light.
The highlight was also pretty easy, and that's getting the first impression house from Tasha.
Nice.
You didn't even hesitate.
I love it.
This is a man who has learned, I'm telling you, he gets it.
He gets it.
He knows the mistakes that he made.
He's not doing it again at all, at all.
Yeah.
Spencer, thank you so much seriously
for doing this podcast. It was so nice
to meet you. We love
the road to redemption. We're happy
that we're on it.
I'll pave the way.
I appreciate you guys having me.
Well, Rachel,
like I said, another day,
another dollar, another guest
that we're finally getting to know
from the Claire and Tasha
season. Yeah,
I, like we said at the top
of the show, I was
interested in hearing what Spencer had to say. And I was pleasantly surprised. You know, he gets it. He gets
how he came across. He's mortified by it. It seems like the reason that we didn't see much of him is because he
kind of was like, you know what? I'm just going to lay low and stay back. He said his thorn was
Kenny calling him a dickhead. I think he was like, that couldn't be more wrong. And I'm going to
try to do my best to fix a situation. At least, you know, that's what he told us. At least he's
learning. And that's the thing. I appreciate somebody who can kind of, you know, he didn't read the
room right away. I will say that. But then he quickly pivoted to take a step back and be like,
oh, there's a lot more going on here. These men have been through so much more than I have at this
point. And so I'm glad that he can recognize that and admit that. Listening to him talk, it actually
kind of reminds me of I'm going back to Ari's season but night one Chelsea Roy got the first
impression rows and everyone thought that she was going to be the villain like everyone the first
night they were like we don't like her she's rubbing everyone the wrong way she's stealing the
bachelor so many times and we got to know her and we all really loved her and like are still close
with her and so um I think about stories like that and it seems so relatable to Spencer and so I
hope that, you know, even though we didn't see much of him in this episode, I really hope it's
because he's taking what he's learning and seeing to heart. Yeah, that's a really good comparison.
I forgot about how people perceive Chelsea, you know, from the first night. And I, and I'm glad
that Spencer was able to explain his side of the story, because if we hadn't talked to him,
and if you guys hadn't heard him just now, you probably would still be thinking he was the same
way. You'd have the impression that Kenny had of him. So, you know, that,
That's what I appreciate about this podcast, too,
is that we're able to do that.
You know, we'll give you the mic
and try to let you explain yourself.
Now, it doesn't always work.
Sometimes people still don't get it,
but Spencer did.
Yeah.
So I'm very glad we had him.
It was another good episode.
And I, like, I'm just excited for these next episodes
that we watch because, like,
we're just getting to really know a lot of these guys.
Like, we're just starting to take it in
