Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly, and now I'm seriously suspicious. Wait a minute, Sam. Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, luckily, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon. This person writes, my boyfriend's been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone.
Starting point is 00:00:25 Hold up. Isn't that against school policy? That seems inappropriate. Maybe find out how it ends by listening to the OK Storytime podcast and the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the Psychology Podcast. Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about how to be a better you. When you think about emotion regulation, you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effortful to use unless you think there's a good outcome. Avoidance is easier. Ignoring is easier. Denials is easier.
Starting point is 00:00:58 Complex problem solving. Takes effort. Listen to the psychology podcast on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. So in the last month, the Midas Touch Network beat Rogan, Tucker Carlson, Candice Owens, Charlie Kirk, and Ben Shapiro all combined. What happens when three brothers take on right-wing media and start winning? I find out on the latest episode of Next Question with me, Katie Couric. We just want people to live their lives and be happy and be able to enjoy it without some, you know, lunar. tick screaming in their face every three seconds listen to next question with me katie currick on the
Starting point is 00:01:35 iHeart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts hey everyone welcome back to happy hour i'm joe and i'm serena and we are here with none other than susan from the golden bachelor susan how are you hi hi everybody how you doing i'm wonderful couldn't be better how you feeling how's how's uh How is everything for you? To be honest, I can honestly say I'm living my best life. Yes, Susan. That's what we like to hear.
Starting point is 00:02:13 I love that. Where do you live? I live right outside of Philadelphia. Okay. Pennsylvania. It's fall here. I just got done blowing leaves. Are you like an Eagles, Philadelphia, Phillies?
Starting point is 00:02:27 Are you a fan? Yeah, Philly's won again. last night. Philly's are. We got two in. I know. I've only been the Philly once. But have you been to Angelo's?
Starting point is 00:02:41 It's like a pizza, but it's in the city. Well, I used to live right in the city. I might have. I don't know. Joe, it's just a pizza place. Yeah, well, it's what's one of the things. It's a big city, Joe. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:54 I know. I'm from Chicago. I love Chicago. My ex-husband used to play for the Cubs. Oh, really? Yeah. Back when baseball was like day games only, there were no lights there. Dickie Knowles.
Starting point is 00:03:10 Wow. Okay. Yeah. Joe is a huge Cubs fan. Uh-oh. How in your, you cook, are you Italian? I am 100%. 100% Italian.
Starting point is 00:03:26 Wow. Wow. Bruchese and nabalada. I'm a little bit of color-based. My father would say that's where the stubbornness comes from. Wow. So my family is also from Naples. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:39 Look at that. I heard, well, on the show, you're like, you heard about the meatballs, right? Well, not even the meatballs, the sausage and peppers. I was like, all right, Susan. Okay, so Susan, how did you get on the Golden Bachelor? How did I get on? How did I get on?
Starting point is 00:03:57 That you sound so, I thought you were saying, I was saying, oh, Susan, this is not the podcast where you should be telling me how you get off, okay? How did I get on? So it was three and a half years ago, my dear friend called me up. I was living in the city at the time. And she's like, Susan, they're having an old people, Bachelor, you have to fill this application. I'm like, what are you talking about? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:23 And that was it. It was three years later. I never heard anything, and I assumed it was because of the pandemic. And then they called me a March, and it's been a world win ever since. Any hesitation when they called you? Absolutely not. No, so you're all in right away. I was in, 100% in.
Starting point is 00:04:42 All right, so you see, you get there, you see Gary the first night. What are your first thoughts on him? Is he your type or is you're like, eh, I don't like this guy. He was the right height. He was the right bill. he had beautiful, beautiful blue eyes. And I was in it to win it. Wow.
Starting point is 00:05:02 Okay. Did you feel a connection? I was excited when I first stepped out in the things that I said to try to get some humor going. Which we loved, by the way. We loved your sixth and chills joke. I was really nervous. I think I was really nervous.
Starting point is 00:05:19 Were you? You came across very confident. That's good thing, right? It is. Let me ask you, let me ask you this question. You're talking about six, eight inches. What do you think, what do you think Gary's packing? Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:05:32 If he talks about the size 14 shoe one more time. Oh, so he's bragging about it. Okay, I see. No way. Is he really? He must have said it like four or five times. There was one morning we were having coffee and we were off camera. And somebody said, do you believe he said that again?
Starting point is 00:05:52 and I shouted out something that I won't shout on here but we all started laughing. It's like, yes, Gary, we know. But does it work? You are 72. Oh, my gosh. Was there any?
Starting point is 00:06:09 No, no, this is this is what makes about a good podcast. Were there any moments, were there any moments where Gary was getting a little, any of the women, you know, a little excited? A little excited. Not that I saw no.
Starting point is 00:06:23 No. Well, so we don't know. So we don't know. There's no evidence. We don't know. I hope so. Okay. So you get in the house.
Starting point is 00:06:34 What are your, you know, we see later on who seem to be your group or your friends. But what are your thoughts on the women when you first get? So this is a good one. You'll love this. When I first got in there, I was nervous, excited. I hadn't seen women. in so long it felt like I was talking to everybody I sat with everybody I was sitting on the sofa and the woman next to me was in a jogging suit so I looked to my left and said does she
Starting point is 00:07:03 work here and she heard me we start laughing she goes no I did a cheer and I go oh oh okay I'm sorry she said I'm from Chicago I was a cheerleader I said are you going to get changed it's like all nervous for her and then the next thing you know it was time she wore it the whole night I was shocked. I thought she was going to. It was, Renee. Renee.
Starting point is 00:07:26 It was, she was the red head. She wore the, um, track suit because she was the Chicago. She was adorable. Absolutely adorable. I love her.
Starting point is 00:07:35 I just was shocked. Did she work here? She's like, no, I'm a contestant. Were you, were you at all? Any,
Starting point is 00:07:45 um, any insecurities when you, when you saw the women? Or were you just like, I'm confident. I feel good. I look good. Let's go. So when they finally came and get me out of my room, and when we go downstairs, we were allowed to take an elevator this time. And my handler said to me, don't make eye contact with anybody.
Starting point is 00:08:06 I said, are you kidding me? I can't wait. Like, I'm getting in the car with them. I can't look at them. Susan, don't look. I'll go, okay. So I'm going like this, like this. And I'm like feeling okay. And then I look back there and I waved to one. I looked over there. I went, oh, shit. she looked good who was it Joan with that little body
Starting point is 00:08:28 and oh man and we ended up sitting next to each other and we're good friends yeah she seems great I feel like a lot of what most of these women are saying in their interviews
Starting point is 00:08:46 we're seeing a lot like you know before I went on this show I kind of lost hope for falling in love again. Was that where you were before you went on the show? No, sir. Like, yeah, I didn't get that. I'm not getting that for you.
Starting point is 00:09:01 I feel like I can go to Philadelphia on a Saturday night and run into Susan. No, I'm really boring. You really can't. I don't hang in bars and things like that. Maybe the casino sometimes, but unless I'm going out with my girlfriends and having dinner,
Starting point is 00:09:17 but I'm tired of the dating apps and getting ghosted like who does that it's so easy to text somebody say hey I'm just not into you or I'm not coming whatever they leave you hanging I was over it
Starting point is 00:09:32 so I'm all about love like I'm in love with being in love does that make sense it does yeah I feel like because when you were younger like even when I was younger dating apps really didn't exist and now that's it's like the only way
Starting point is 00:09:49 Oh my God, yes. And it makes it does, it makes it very difficult. I always had, I mean, I can never really do it because I just felt like I like that more traditional old tool of meeting someone in person. I know, but where do you do that at my age? I don't go to bars. I'm sorry, did you just say you like the traditional way
Starting point is 00:10:07 of fighting someone? How did you guys meet again? We've got out of reality show. You've been on five reality shows, okay? You're not, you're into the very non-conventional way of meeting someone. And Susan, so are you. I think I have a really big personality and not everyone loves a big personality.
Starting point is 00:10:25 Yeah. Well, are there any, do you think there's any women in the house that you're rubbing the wrong way with your big personality? I'm a lover. I love everybody. Okay. I was nice to everybody. Yeah. Did everyone get along or were there like different groups?
Starting point is 00:10:42 I mean, I know we saw like Askin. She's part of us. We are the group. Oh, I know. I know. You guys are the answer. It seems like you're the only group in the house, right? Yes.
Starting point is 00:10:52 Yeah, I said so. But we let others in. I mean, we loved everybody, but. I don't know if you're letting others in. They're not getting your letter in the group, but you'll hang out with them. You ask Faith. You ask Ellen. You ask Leslie.
Starting point is 00:11:08 No, you all seem very social. It just seemed like the four of you had the tightest bonds. Like you really got along well. And you had a good day. We're like family. We're like family now. Were you all in the same room? with each other?
Starting point is 00:11:19 Yes. Yeah, that always helps. This is the Naples side of you. I'm just not buying it. I feel like you're the gangster in this group. That's what I think's going on, Susan. You'll see. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:31 Look at so far. I love everybody. Okay. So we see, let's jump to this week's episode. You know, we see you guys are doing like this little truth where you guys are eating the ice cream. Never have I ever. Never have I ever. God.
Starting point is 00:11:48 You want to talk? No, I don't. Whose idea was that, Susan? It's not mine. So out of all the women playing that, who are the wildest? You in April? No. Oh, no, really?
Starting point is 00:12:04 Sandra. I was shocked out of my mind. From who? That would have been faith. Faith? Yes, blew my mind. Really? Wow.
Starting point is 00:12:16 That surprise is. me too, actually. Yes. I took a double take and I was like, you're eating the ice cream? But I feel like she's got that like wild side like edge to her as well. It's just like she's got a very like sensitive soul and like soft exterior.
Starting point is 00:12:35 She's very cool. I feel like the show has to release the unedited version of that game. Of that game. But you guys, I want to see it. I didn't want to. play. No?
Starting point is 00:12:49 You got too many secrets, Susan. Well, there's not that many, but yeah, there was a few. Okay, so let's go. So we see. Trista arrives at the Bachelor Mansion. Did you know who Trista was when she showed up? So you've watched the show for a few years. Yes, I have watched the show.
Starting point is 00:13:10 Not every single season, but yes, I have watched it. She's so beautiful. She is beautiful. And you find out. you guys are going on a pickleball day. How are you feeling? Well, wait, wait. Before we get into that real quick, how do you feel about Leslie getting the one-on-one?
Starting point is 00:13:28 I was excited for her. Good. Okay. I get excited for everybody. I was still waiting for mine. But there's not a part of you that's a little, because we do see a lot of the women are now getting like in their heads and a little upset if they don't get called by Gary. I know. A lot of women don't have game face either.
Starting point is 00:13:49 That's true. A lot of women don't have game face. I know. No, I was good. I was good. The pickleball thing, I'm sorry. Yeah, go. Go.
Starting point is 00:14:00 Tell us about the pickleball date. When I heard pickleball, I'm like, I don't know how to play that. My ball likes to wait for me to hit it. You know what I'm saying? I play golf. Okay. I don't play pickle ball. I thought it was a racket until I got there, and it's a paddle.
Starting point is 00:14:15 so for me and then Teresa wanted me to be her partner she came right up to me soon as they said it and there had just been a little bit of things going on in the house with Teresa and my girlfriend Kathy anyhow
Starting point is 00:14:30 who are you who are you tighter with at this point Trisa or Kathy Kathy Kathy's an asking well as soon as a podcast I don't hear a T and asking Joe And there's no I am we.
Starting point is 00:14:50 So when Teresa asks you to be on her pickleball team, what do you say? You want me? I said, I've never played that game. You don't want me. She goes, no, please, please. I said, okay. I did it. And what are your thoughts on Teresa?
Starting point is 00:15:08 Because she is rubbing some of the women the wrong way. Yeah. And we definitely see a lot of tension between her and Kathy. on this pickleball date. Ouch. Yeah. Nive. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:28 Yeah. Is it her talking about her relationship with Gary to the other women? Is that something that, yeah, does that affect you like it affects Kathy? because like me personally
Starting point is 00:15:45 I don't know if that would affect me I think it just I think certain people it rubs the wrong way so how are you now how are you doing on this pickleball court well first of all Joey comes and we're so excited because he's from around here
Starting point is 00:16:00 we're like neighbors and I was so yeah did you watch him on charity season yes okay and I wanted her to pick him no offense to the other guy but I really did I love Joey
Starting point is 00:16:11 Joey is going to be just fine. He is about to, well, he might have already How close are they? Are they close? Are they done? I don't know. I think they might be done. I think they're filming. I still think they're filming. I still think they're filming.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Okay. Yeah, I can't wait to watch. Yeah, so we'll see what goes on with him. Okay, so then you don't win. You don't win. So, well, hey, I work that audience. Jesse said to me at the end of the game, you worked that audience
Starting point is 00:16:43 when I got up there they were going Susan Susan I was like yes and if I did something right it was like I didn't I did it just like on the last week
Starting point is 00:16:55 show when I jumped out of the cake and do the karate thing they only showed the little kick I did so much more I'm sure you did Susan I did I took the outfit off
Starting point is 00:17:11 I was in a leopard bikini. I taught him how to pachata. We're all the women going crazy when you were doing that? Yes, it was great. There's a lot of footage that needs to be released that I need to see. I need the rest of the talent show. You have to see the whole thing. I wish it was longer, but I get it.
Starting point is 00:17:30 Yeah. Okay, so then we see, you know, a more serious side where Gary pulls you and you guys have a conversation. and he gives her a rose courts. There you go. It was a moment. It was our moment. It was beautiful. To me, you remind me so much of my wife.
Starting point is 00:17:52 You have so much empathy and strength. And then he said, I have something for you. I was like, oh, you know, I love presents. Were you expecting this? No, no. I was hoping it was a rose, so I didn't have to sweat out the next rose ceremony. And then my thought was, oh, my goodness, if I open this box, what if I don't know what it is? Like, everything's going through your mind.
Starting point is 00:18:16 And I know what it is, of course. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly, and now I'm seriously suspicious. Oh, wait a minute, Sam. Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast. So we'll find out soon. This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her.
Starting point is 00:18:38 Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now, hold up. Isn't that against school policy? That sounds totally inappropriate. Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor, and they're the same age. And it's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him?
Starting point is 00:18:55 Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK. Storytime podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, it's Jemisbeg, host of The Psychology of Your 20s. Remember when you used to have Science Week at school? Well, if you loved that, how would you feel about a full psychology month? This September, the Psychology of Your 20s, we're breaking down the interesting ways psychology applies to real life, like how our pets actually change our brain chemistry,
Starting point is 00:19:34 the psychology of office politics, whether happiness is even a real emotion, and my favorite episode, why do we all secretly crave external validation? It's so interesting to me that we are so quick to believe others' judgments of us, and not our own. I found a study that said, not being liked actually creates similar levels of pain as physical pain. Like, no wonder we care so much. So the secret is, if you want to be okay with not being liked, you have to know why your brain craves it in the first place. Learn more about the psychology of external validation, everyday life, and of course your 20s. This September, listen to the psychology of your 20s on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get, your podcasts. So in the last month,
Starting point is 00:20:21 the Midas Touch Network beat Rogan, Tucker Carlson, Candice Owens, Charlie Kirk, and Ben Shapiro all combined. Conservative podcasts can have a major political impact, but the MySense Sellis brothers, three siblings with a serious media strategy, are building an alternative to that. On the latest episode of Next Question with Katie Couric, I sat down with the brothers behind the Midas Touch Network to talk about how they built a progressive media powerhouse from the ground up, why audience interaction is the key to political influence and what it takes to fight disinformation at scale, one download at a time. We should be focusing on the issues that actually occupy a lot of the mental space in Americans' minds but are filled with conspiracies, and we should fill it with the truth and solutions. Listen to next question with me, Katie Couric on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. So on the pickleball court, we saw a few things. One of the things we saw was April 4th.
Starting point is 00:21:29 faked her sprain did you know she was faking it none of us did when did you find out because we saw when I looked at her face the spotlights on you oh I get it but the best part
Starting point is 00:21:47 was she played after that I was like are you serious did she oh yeah she did she's like my ankles feel like a lot better Gary I know I know It was like it's disrupted. If you could go to Vegas with only one of these women, who is your girl?
Starting point is 00:22:07 Oh, God. That's a tough one. Kathy or April? Yeah. I don't know. Nancy's my safe bet, though. Nancy was on this podcast and she said that Askin is. is going on a vacation.
Starting point is 00:22:30 Yes, I plan. We're going to St. Martin. That is so fun. Yes. One of my favorite. I take it back. April is the one that said that. April.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Oh, okay. When are you guys going? January 17th. That'll be so fun. Do you have kids? I did. What do your kids think about all of this? So they were very excited.
Starting point is 00:22:58 for me. The one video that my son sent in, it was hysterical. But after the first episode, I think my son stopped watching. He was not happy. He didn't want to see mom make it with Gary. How old is he? He didn't like the comment at all, 35. I said, Chris, it's TV. It's fun. Like, have a sense of humor. Yeah. But then they wrote a really awesome article about me in Philadelphia and how Nice. I was the following week, everybody loved me because I love everybody. I helped everybody. It did everybody's hair.
Starting point is 00:23:33 So he lightened up a little bit. Okay, good. Are you, so are you still cutting hair? Yeah, always. Nice, nice. So you have a salon? In my basement. Okay.
Starting point is 00:23:44 Nice, nice. Well, if I'm ever in Philadelphia, I may need a hair cut. Didn't you see how pretty everybody's hair was for the rose ceremonies? That's all you? That's all you? Yes. Oh, my God. My asking girls, they were up dudes, down dudes, curls.
Starting point is 00:24:00 You're working overtime. I'm telling you. I mean, you're getting a lot of love. How do you feel about all the Chris Jenner comparisons? Oh, my gosh. So that started like, I can't tell you how many years, 30 years ago. Yeah. I get that everywhere I go.
Starting point is 00:24:17 If we're in Atlantic City, I was in the Bahamas. I was in Italy and somebody said it. I couldn't believe it. Have you ever signed an autograph? No, no. Have you ever taken a picture? Chris, when I was there, I'd be on film with the producers and I'd be like, Chris, I'm only 12 minutes down the road. We got to do lunch.
Starting point is 00:24:37 She hasn't reached out thus far. She hasn't? How happy would you be if you got to know her? Oh, my God. It's like a dream come true. You definitely have like a similar look. Is that just a coincidence or are you like inspired by her look? No, I'm a hairdresser.
Starting point is 00:24:54 My hair has been like this forever. What it is, I think I remind people of her because of my short dark hair. Yeah. You know, especially when you wear makeup, you look better. So I guess that's why. I don't know. Yeah, no, I think you guys, I think you look alike. I see it.
Starting point is 00:25:11 I see it side by side. No, we said it. Like, when we did a review of your guys cast photos before the show aired, we said this girl looks exactly like Chris Jenner. and poor Kathy's getting Caitlin I know she is getting a lot of Caitlin comparisons but Caitlin looks fabulous right now there you go that's what I said
Starting point is 00:25:36 so how do you feel right now at this point of the show you are the last woman of Askin standing that was shocking that was shocking So I thought it would be me that didn't get through it. I really did.
Starting point is 00:25:57 But Gary and I have a connection. And I was really shocked that April left. Yeah. How about Kathy? Well, Kathy and I kind of felt like maybe it's our turn to go because we didn't have a one-on-one yet. And you know what I'm saying? And then with all the drama.
Starting point is 00:26:18 So she kind of knew, she felt like she knew she was going. and Nancy gets hurt. See, I was, I was shocked. I was, Kathy, I figured was probably her time because it does, as a viewer, it does seem like Gary is more into Teresa. And now this drama is starting to affect everyone. So it's like, Kathy's got to go.
Starting point is 00:26:41 I was shocked to see Nancy leave. So Nancy got hurt at the pickleball game. And she got a boot. she had a boot on and she was talking to us and we were thinking from watching the show we're probably going to travel after this cut and she kept saying
Starting point is 00:27:00 what if we go somewhere with the beach she goes I can't struggle down the beach and I said you know what go talk to him and she did wow my boyfriend's professor is way too friendly and now I'm seriously suspicious oh wait a minute Sam maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit
Starting point is 00:27:19 Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon. Starting point is 00:27:42 And it's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him, because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? I feel like at the end of the day, if I'm in her shoes or her one shoe and her boot,
Starting point is 00:30:20 I'm like, if I'm really not going to potentially end up with this guy, I'm not fighting through this year. I want to go home. So I don't blame her for that at all. I don't either. Yeah. Can I just say one thing? Do you guys have the photo?
Starting point is 00:30:36 I think this is priceless. I know Kathy would kill me, but I want to frame it. Of Kathy and her little hat at the talent show and Teresa next to her, when Leslie was doing the dance, did her face? Yes, I know what you're talking about. If you go on streaming and you pull it up, you could probably screenshot that. But you should definitely get that photo phrase. Oh, you have it.
Starting point is 00:31:01 That was so funny. Oh, my God, their faces were priceless. They were just like, oh, my gosh, what? Out of all the group dates so far, what's been your favorite? Yeah. The talent show. Between the talent show and pickleball. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:28 And now that you make it through, you're the only one left on asking. Are you hopeful to get a one-on-one next week? Yes. yeah yes because you let everybody go I won't he let everybody go the first ceremony
Starting point is 00:31:44 I got the last rose you had to see that in my brain I'm like wait a minute I bought a lot of nice dresses and we got to get to know each other I can't leave Susan I was like yes
Starting point is 00:31:56 yeah that's rough has Gary tried your meatballs he had my chicken cutlets oh that sounds good What's your, what's your, what's your, what's your, what's your best dish? If you, if you're here to impress somebody, you got to impress Gary. Yeah, he comes over for dinner to your house. What are you making him?
Starting point is 00:32:20 So he seems being from Midwest, maybe a nice ribeye on the grill. So you can cook. Yeah, I can cook. I can do a lot. I think I'm a good prize. Hear that, Gary? I'm a good pro. Okay, so you are a fan of the show.

Starting point is 00:33:38 Oh, it was a blast. That is so much fun. Yeah. What would be your advice for women in their golden years who want to go on this show and still want to find love? That's what I think the show is really about, about showing everybody 60 and up, even 50s and up, that gave up and are sitting home and not caring anymore and saying I'll never. get up wake up there's a world out there what i got it out of the show not only did i meet fabulous women i love myself again i'm worth it and i discovered that about me like no matter what happens i'm worth it yeah that's awesome i agree and i think it's also because you took a risk
Starting point is 00:34:32 you know and and i did just become complacent and then they stop taking risks yeah So everybody out there, come on, if you still have a big life, go enjoy it.
