This is an I-Heart podcast.

In February of 2024, celebrated illustrator and children's book author Patra Mathers and her husband Michael mailed letters to dozens of friends and family members to let them know they had died by suicide.
Dear honies, this is goodbye.
By the time you get this letter, both Petra and I will be dead.
Next stop, Wonderland.
Why did they do it?
And what did it do to the people they left behind?

Welcome back to Part 2 with Susie Evans. Let's get into it.
What is your take now on being friends with exes?
Are you guys still friends or where do you stand?
No, we really don't have communication.
I think it's too hard.
We share a lot of the same friends and I think we just went through too much together
that it's easier to just not be friends.
I mean, there's, I have so much love for all of my exes and I've been in therapy for like years now.
And it's been so helpful to go back and think about those relationships.
And like I've written letters that have never made it outside of my diary to a lot of the men that I've dated both good and bad.
And it is like really healing.
And I sometimes feel like so grateful for all of the guys that I've dated, even the really horrible ones because I'm like, wow, it taught me so much.
but the ones that are good I just think we all move on like when we have significant others it's like
really not appropriate um I don't know it's not it doesn't feel appropriate to like have friendships
with those people if it was like a serious relationship so really all of the guys I feel like I'm
cool with you know the nice ones but I'm I don't have I don't have room for friendships for them I
I agree. What is now your take on going back to paradise and what would it take to get you there?
I would, well, they'd have to mix the golden in with me because I'm getting to that point.
See, shut up. I'm serious. What if they took guys from way older seasons?
Well, they said that last time. If they really did, sure. I'd be, well, actually, I don't know that I'd say sure.
I always say I'm like I would so do reality TV for fun, but I don't know that I would do it for dating.
It's like it really disrupts your life.
Like that is how I feel.
Paradise, I'm still recovering.
Like I feel like I'm still not actually.
But you know what I mean?
It just like disrupts the function of your life.
It's like, I don't know.
It's hard.
I also think we've kind of talked about this.
When you go back into the real world, being on reality TV attracts the wrong kind of guy.
and being on reality TV freaks out the right kind of guy.
Exactly.
And so I'm kind of like, I think if I really want the right guy for me, I need to avoid these
situations.
Yes.
And we had this conversation where it feels like, oh, my gosh, I'm going to meet all these
people through this.
I'm going to have all these opportunities to meet guys.
And then we are kind of in this boat of either you can date people on reality TV.
Yeah.
Or people who want nothing to do with it and they don't want to be in the spotlight, which is so,
understandable. Green flags. So how are you then dating now? How are you meeting men? I'm not.
I know we talked about like men don't exist in LA, men that we want to date. It's really bizarre.
I feel like dating apps are how I've mostly met people. The guy that I went on a date with
in Chicago and like I started seeing him for a little bit. I just met him in the wild. And he's a
great human, really great human. But I think I'm just in a space where I need to just
like focus on me for a little bit.
But I feel like I don't meet that many guys.
Never.
And our followers are women, which we love.
Love.
I don't want a man on my page.
No, literally.
A hundred percent.
Why are men here?
They're not meant to be here.
Literally.
Yeah.
But it's not like people always assume, oh, people must DM you.
And I'm like, no, my page does not make it to therefore you page.
No, I don't remember the last time I saw a man in the DMs.
Me either.
Well, there's one guy that sends a message every day.
What does he say?
Can I give you this road?
No, the faces in the room are scared.
Oh, yeah.
Well, my phone's in there, but it's like kind of scary.
Every single day says, can I accept?
Will you accept this rose?
Yes, every day.
Have you ever responded?
No.
Maybe at this point we can.
I'm scared.
It's not good.
Okay, so meeting men mostly on Raya.
I have Hinge too.
Well, I'm not actively on either currently, but I feel like Raya and Hinge have been the ones
that I've used to meet people.
but I've really only like gone out with two different guys in the past like year I think yeah
oh no no no I did go on a crazy date tell us a guy like I think I like might have shared this online
I don't want to say too much because I don't want to like expose somebody but this guy like took me
on a date and then like left the date and then sorry wait let's start the beginning you met someone
was he in the wild no actually this was a matchmaker reached out to me and she was like I have a client
and he like I did like a pre-interview to the date and I was like cool like he sounds like a
nice guy looking for a real relationship and I don't have to pay for the matchmaker he pays for
the matchmaker and she like goes and recruits people for him to go on dates with okay and
he was older he was a little bit older like 10 years okay and I was like yeah why not I'll go
but then he went on this date and then he left but it was like I mean I won't go into too much
detail I thought maybe he had the shits
because I don't have a lot of cuss on here, but.
Yes.
Wait.
Okay.
So did he take you to dinner or drinks?
We went to, yeah, dinner or drinks.
As soon as the food hit the table, like, we left.
But then he came back.
I went, this is crazy.
I'm afraid I'm about to expose this.
The food is on the table.
Did he say I have to go to the bathroom?
No, he was like, I could tell he was distressed.
And I was like, we, I was like, we can call it.
Like, I thought he wasn't into me or something.
Like, I was like, it's totally fine.
So then I'd call a girlfriend to meet me.
I'm like, I'm going to, let's go get dinner, whatever.
And she's like, I can't make it.
But you should just like Hail Mary on the app.
So I send out like five DMs to different guys.
Meet me here.
Meet me at No Boom Alabama.
Literally.
And one of them was on the way.
And then the original guy comes back.
And you were the bachelorette.
I was the bathearts.
I was the batheeded my own night.
But I don't like I can't share too much because like there's like so much the story that like I want to be respectful.
But like it was just so chaotic.
So I've like sent out this Hail Mary get a guy, a guy's like on the way.
The original guy had called me and asked me where I was, made sure I got home okay.
And I'm like, oh, no, I went out with a girlfriend.
Like, you know, I'm like still there.
A different place.
But he asked me, he was like, oh, like, where'd you go?
And I was like, oh, where'd you go?
What does he mean?
I know.
Yeah.
I know.
But yeah, it was just like really chaotic.
And it was like a scene in a movie when you've got like two guys coming on the same date.
And I had to tell the guy that I got off the app.
I was like, never mind.
And then I ended up FaceTiming that guy when I got home because I was like,
I'm so sorry.
I feel like a total a hole.
And then we did end up meeting up eventually being that guy.
But it was just like so chaotic.
So did the guy he found you even though you were at a different location?
Yeah.
He was like four minutes out.
He like, he called me and I told him where I was.
I was like, oh, I'm here with a girlfriend.
And I didn't want to think I was alone.
And then all of a sudden he was like,
showing back up. So he walked in first, the matchmaker guy. He was four minutes. He was like,
texted me after that phone call a few minutes later and he was like, I'm four minutes out.
I'll explain everything. And he did, but it was just really chaotic. Was the excuse valid?
Yeah. I guess so. Yeah. Yeah. Was it the shits? It wasn't quite the shits.
But something like that. Yeah, kind of. Yeah. Yeah. So then you texted the hand guy and you said,
I'm leaving, never mind. Yeah. No, actually, I told the truth. And I was like, I got ditched on a date.
and I was like I was I like sent out a Hail Mary and I'm so sorry I feel really bad but I'm like the guy showed back up and you can't come anymore I was just honest which he was like he's like I actually respect it and then you ended up FaceTiming him when you got and I was like I have to explain everything because I felt really bad I was like oh my gosh like this guy took a chance on me you know like I sent out like a hey want to meet for drinks and he was coming like it was I felt terrible and then you met up
with him after what happened with that guy we dated for a couple months oh yeah like longevity to that
there was yeah we went on it we went out for a little while yeah was that the guy that you were just
seen before yes each other yeah so i think yeah yeah yeah no longer in contact no yeah he didn't say
happy birthday he's super he's so sweet yeah oh yeah happy birthday you're a leo yeah it's so leo
it's so leo season right yeah no i think it's vergo oh burgo season wait okay i have a question oh gosh
Do you dress like one of your signs?
I'm like all Pisces.
Oh, you're all Pisces.
Yeah.
Does your expression like through your clothes?
Does it feel Pisces?
I don't know that much about Pisces.
I don't know.
I feel like I dress like more girly.
Yeah, it's super cute.
I feel like I've grown into like since I've been in my late 20s and 30s.
I love.
Do you dress like Leo?
Is that?
No.
Well, so my girlfriend, Mallory, was telling me, we recently hung out and she was like, I
was like wanting to experiment with my personal style and she was like you should dress like your rising
i think she said what's your rising um what is it it's like or no she said you should dress
does dress like your virgo makes it or is that a thing dress like or it's a certain your saturn or something
i don't know venus venus that's what it is dress like your venus and i was like dress like your venus
is that what it is what's your venus um oh my gosh what is it i just found all this out like i'm new to it
And maybe it is Virgo.
Oh my gosh.
I wish I had my phone.
I'm a Torres Venus.
Okay.
I wonder if I don't see, I don't know that much about it.
But I was like searching it.
And I was curious if you do because it suits you so well.
Thank you.
I think Torres is more comfort.
Like it's, they must be comfortable.
So I'm like maybe not, but maybe you should start.
I don't think you should.
Don't change anything.
You're nailing it.
You're perfect.
But I was curious if you did that because I'm like it just suits you so well.
So I was like maybe she just like her Venus.
Oh my gosh.
Thank you.
Wait.
Okay.
Should we do the game?
I mean, I have so many other questions, but we'll just talk about those later on camera.

I sit down with culture-shifting women

Advocate Elizabeth Smart.
I still feel that dry that I can still make a difference, so I'm going to keep going.
Celebrity chef Carla Hall.
Was that scary to walk away from such a stable career after just two years?
No.
I was more afraid of being unhappy than I was broke in a dead end job that I didn't enjoy.
And feminist legend, Gloria Steinem.

Hi, I'm Michael and Perioli.
I want to tell you about my new podcast, Underground Zero.
It's about what happened in the aftermath of the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center in
New York.
We're looking at the opportunity of a lifetime for us and the other families.
While the world was mourning, five powerful New York families saw an opportunity.
The debris supposed to go to the city on salvage.
and some of it will.
They would go on to make millions of dollars.
What's in the tunnels?
Gold bars, Sylvaingets.
It could be worth half a billion.
And they would have made more
if it hadn't been for one courageous cop.
No, Dad, don't.
You're going to need all of us.
I'll call you when I can.
Frank, be careful.
Underground Zero, starring Steve Sheripa,
Ray Abruzzo, and me, Michael Imperio.
Would you be willing to see your family go to pieces?

Self-care September is here, which means it's time to rethink what self-care actually means.
Yes, self-care can be a long walk.
It can be in everything's shower.
It can be putting your phone on Do Not Disturb.
But sometimes it's actually about sitting with the uncomfortable stuff.
And understanding your patterns, your boundaries,
finally figuring out while you keep doing things that you swore you would never do again.
I'm Gemma Spag, the host of the Psychology of Your 20s podcast.
and each week we unpack the psychology behind the experiences that shape your 20s,
from relationships and friendships to money, anxiety, confidence, attachment,
just becoming more comfortable with who you are.
Unlike the quarter life crisis, which is depicted as the collapse,
the quarter life reinvention is the expansion and growth of something.
When we develop the ability to be happy by ourselves,
nobody else can take that from you.
So this self-care September, don't just take care of yourself,
get to know yourself as well.
Listen to the psychology of your 20s on the IHartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
By age 11 or so, at least 70% have a phone.
Middle school is a different world than the one we grew up in.
I'm Dr. Joy, and this is therapy for black girls.
We spend real time on it in our surviving middle school run, bringing in a child psychologist and a psychiatrist who's raising two black girls of his own to talk about what's really going on with our kids right now.
So it's literally physiological and neurological and psychological chaos happening all this same time.
We got into group chats and gaming, friendships and bullying,
and how to tell the difference between healthy monitoring and the kind of surveillance that erodes trust.
There's belonging.
You could think of belonging as I can be myself and I can still be accepted.
And then there's fitting in.
Spitting in says I have to change who I am in order to avoid rejection.
Then we turn the conversation toward the fathers, sitting down.
with therapist, cure gains on Black fatherhood and what it means to raise a daughter through this stage.
You don't have on shorts, so you can't do flips, you have on the dressy, up across your legs.
That's the range of this run, from screen time to identity to the father's doing the work at home.
You have to get off her device, but the reality is there's a lot of life out there that we don't want you as your adults in their life to miss out on.
This has been our surviving middle school run.
Brought to you by the people who spend their careers thinking about exactly this.
I'm Dr. Joy.
Listen to Therapy for Black Girls on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
I am very excited to play this game.
We are going to play a game.
We are going to show you some never-before-seen photos, and you are going to give us the behind-the-scenes.
For those who are listening on audio, you can go to Bachelor Happy Hour Instagram and see the pictures for yourself.
And I cannot wait because I was also on Miss Season with Susie, so I can't wait to see all the things that were going on in the background.
I mean, we need to start about this.
Okay.
I'm so crissed.
This is Suzy coming back to the hotel in Vienna with all of her bags.
Everyone was crying.
Wait, I felt, I actually felt so bad.
And I come back with all of these bags.
I will say, people always ask like, oh, did you get like so much designer stuff?
And I'm like, oh, no, it was like, H&M and Zara, which is like amazing.
But people thought it was like.
But you had the lupitons?
They did give me lupitons, which was.
sick. I didn't even know what they were until I didn't know what red bottoms were.
What you knew when you got into that room. After they told me. Multiple people were crying.
Like sadness. Just in general. Which is so funny. Like I, again, me trying to, I'm still trying to
figure out my personal style. Didn't know it on the season. Didn't know, don't know it now. Like it didn't,
not that it didn't. It just was like, they basically just like bought stuff and put it in bags. And then I
think I came in and I was like, take whatever you want. Like, I can't fit all this in my bag.
She did say that.
Susie's so sweet.
We're all crying.
She goes, you guys can have whatever.
All of a sudden a butler walks in.
He goes, oh, my gosh.
Susie, and he has this gorgeous red Cinderella dress.
And Susie's already a Disney princess.
She goes, I'm going to get ready now.
Pillow over the face.
Where's the bar?
I honestly hated them for doing that to me.
I'm like, you guys really just want them to hate me, don't you?
Like, that is so mean to come rub this in all the girls' faces.
and then send in the, not the butler with the red dress.
And the white glove.
I really just felt really cringy, to be honest.
I was like, I feel like, like, what are you supposed to do?
Come out and be like, look at me.
You looked like a busy princess.
Susie, where is the red dress now?
I don't think I kept the red.
I think the red dress is still in Vienna.
I don't, I didn't keep the red dress.
Really?
Yeah.
It was so beautiful.
You're so blonde here.
Isn't it crazy?
So blonde.
We were talking about this too.
Like I just, I'm back and forth.
my hair all the time. Oh my gosh. This hotel was nice though. Yeah, that was that was one of my favorite
stops. I wish we had more time to explore in Vienna. I love doing this because I'm like, wait,
I was there too. I know. Oh my gosh, the memories. That was right before hometown.
Oh, oh my gosh. That was your dress. Wait, that's so funny. That was yours. Oh my God,
that was my dress. Okay, this is a picture of us in it was the Vienna Rose ceremony. That's crazy.
Teddy, Susie, Gabby, Serene, and me.
And I'm actually wearing Susie's dress.
Didn't you wear that in one of your pageants?
I did.
I think I wore that the first year I competed at Miss Virginia.
I miss Virginia.
She's Miss Virginia.
Oh my God, that's so crazy.
Wait, I did not fit in the dress that I was wearing.
Yes.
I'm pretty sure I was like buckled into the back.
It looks phenomenal.
It looks phenomenal.
But I wanted to wear it because I did love that dress, but it was a little small on me.
And then I think.
Wait, Teddy is wearing someone's dress.
Teddy's wearing Serene's dress.
Wait, cute.
And do you remember this rose ceremony?
We were all standing in this big ballroom and we were there for like 45 minutes and we were laying on the ground.
I do remember that.
Oh, no, no, no.
Okay, wait, I'm thinking of another rose ceremony.
Remember when Gabby walked into the, I think it was the one after hometowns and we were all like cry laughing?
Because she kept coming in and standing in the wrong spot and they were getting so mad.
at us because we couldn't keep a straight face. Yes. And the way she did it, she was like,
because her dress was so tight down to the knees and she was walking down the stairs. And it would
take so long. And then I think she just like hit the wrong spot like three times in a row.
And it's, I'm sorry, it's funny. It's funny. And they're like, guys, this is really serious.
Like someone's going home tonight. We're like, oh, okay. Oh my gosh. We had so many funny
row ceremonies. The rose ceremonies are so, like that's the one thing. I think.
feel like and I hate to complain about it but I feel like the bachelor gets wrong show the funny stuff
it's so quirky and funny like this stuff that happens yeah like us laying on the ground in a ballroom
like as if do you remember the Croatia one and jenev was chewing gum and she spit out in gabby's hand
and gabby kicked it all the way across the room I actually don't remember that but that's amazing
oh my gosh they need to show these yeah like there's so many actual fun funny moments that just uh makes
heart so happy. We should talk about sharing the dresses. Yeah. Because you, I remember, had a trunk
suitcase full of dresses. Huge trunk. And at some point, a bunch of them were in my suitcase because I had
an empty suitcase. Wait, I love that. And you would run over and people would be stuffing the dresses
in my suitcase because we were all sharing. I think everyone is in someone else's dress here. Yeah,
it was amazing. I also, I had this huge suitcase. Like, it was crazy. In theory, it was so
great because I fit so much in there, but then like certain airlines wouldn't take it. I left it.
My suitcase is like rummaging some. It's a great suitcase. It was a trunk. Wasn't it like up to here?
It was like a double wide of suitcases. And I left it in one of these countries because one of the airlines were like, we won't accept this. And I was like, that's so fair.
Wasn't that your pageant one too? I think, yeah, it was like gifted to me. No, I don't care. I can't leave you had to leave it.
It's so fine. I should have never brought that. That was crazy of me. But I'm glad. I'm glad.
you did we lucked out because we had a lot of wardrobe we had so much wardrobe and I only brought
dresses for like three weeks because I said I'll be lucky if I make it past night one I felt the
same way and all of a sudden you have to have a dress for every single day crazy and we all just
have to share luckily yeah do you feel like that's tea as I said do you feel like anybody was against
sharing I did anyone Teddy I remember wouldn't share her shoes do you remember oh I don't
remember that. She had a sparkly pair of shoes. Oh, I do remember that.
Yes. Okay. That's funny. I feel like dresses everyone always said yes. We swapped. Yeah.
I feel like we all swapped. I'm trying to remember. That's so funny. Yeah, I think it's really common.
It's kind of fun when somebody's like wearing your dress. I know. And I wore your other,
the red one. Oh yeah. That one looked really good on you.
You had such good dresses. It's the pageant world, you know? They were incredible. That red one was
my favorite. Oh, I love that.
Wait, I love this date. Also, this is how I knew you were wearing your grandmother's ring today. Because remember, like, you couldn't get it off that day. I had to get the fire station, how to cut that one off. Wait, oh, it's a different one. Oh my gosh, no way. The fire station had to cut that off. Because after the show, it must have just been the drinking and the salt and the eating. I got some kind of get ashamed off. That's crazy. This photo is me, Gabby, and Susie in Croatia. Literally.
okay, I'm not going to lie, this was a really fun date.
But when they pulled out the wardrobe for this, it was like fighting for your life to try to get a semi-cute outfit.
I remember Gabby actually ran after that skirt and she was like, I call this skirt.
And they're like, okay, cool.
It comes with this whole carb.
And then she was like, oh, no, I don't want the top half of that.
And they were like, well, you chose this skirt.
And we have to like for, I think it was like a cultural.
I don't know what it's called, but like it was some kind of experience where like it was very detail oriented where like each thing was very specific.
We couldn't mix and match the costumes.
They were saying that in their culture in Croatia that women often fought.
Like they were, I guess some sort of nights.
So that's what we were doing here.
I'm pretty sure I got the last one.
I was like, I'm not fighting anyone.
And I ran around by myself behind the back.
I hated the group date.
We need to talk about you in the fighting fit when you had to like run with the rope connected.
with Genevieve or who was they with? You were smoking everyone. You were so good at that game.
Okay, this was coming off of like a really intense four years of jiu-jitsu where I was like actively
fight. Like I started doing jiu-jitsu when I lived in Japan and I was like really in my athlete
era of like I could tackle. I could I was like, I was like a fighter and I was like, oh,
killing it. I was like, I'm going to win this. You did. But I didn't win the group day because
Serene won. That's because she squeezed the fish head into her mouth. That was crazy work. Yeah.
That part I lost.
It was really impressive, though.
I fail at anything like eating gross stuff.
Oh my gosh.
That was pretty bad.
This was, I mean, I just thought this was so funny, though.
Like, we were all carsick from the ride up.
It was like a mountainous, beautiful ride.
Yeah, we were all backwards in these vans.
I remember being really concerned for Gabby that day because I was like, you are not well.
The altitude, like everything.
It was kind of intense.
And then they fed us fish heads and made us fight in a row.
ring.
And we had to like do a scavenger on.
Yeah.
That was so crazy.
I will say, I think this might have been my peak hair color.
I do love it.
I think that like it was something about I probably wasn't taking care of it.
And I actually like how it turned, the color turned out.
It looks fantastic.
I need to get back to that.
I need to get back to Croatia.
I love that.

That call was.
really pivotal for me. Hey, it's Emily Tisch Sussman, and this season on she
pivots, the podcast where women share bold career moves and personal turning points that
changed everything. I sit down with culture-shifting women who share their pivots like
Paraly-Truitt. I was like, I'm a month out from a shark attack. There's no way in 11 months
I'm making the Paralympics. Advocate Elizabeth Smart. I still feel that dry that I can still
make a difference, so I'm going to keep going. Celebrity chef, Carla Hall. Was that scary to
walk away from such a stable career after just two years? No, I was more afraid of being unhappy
than I was broke and in a dead end job that I didn't enjoy. And feminist legend, Gloria Steinem.
All of us were trying to express women's real lives. We need a meeting place of our own. And if I can
contribute to that, I'd like to maintain that and leave this house for that purpose.

Hi, I'm Michael Imperioli. I want to tell you about my new podcast, Underground Zero.
It's about what happened in the aftermath of the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York.
We're looking at the opportunity of a lifetime for us and the other families.
While the world was mourning, five powerful New York families saw an opportunity.
The debris is supposed to go to the city-owned salvage yard, and some of it will.
They would go on to make millions of dollars.
What's in the tunnels?
of ingots, it could be worth half a billion.
And they would have made more if it hadn't been for one courageous cop.
No, Dad, don't.
You're going to need all of us. I'll call you when I can.
Frank, be careful.
Underground Zero, starring Steve Sharipa, Ray Abruzzo, and me, Michael Imperioly.
Would you be willing to see your family go to pieces?
Some ways it already has.

September is here, which means it's time to rethink what self-care actually means. Yes, self-care
can be a long walk. It can be in everything shower. It can be putting your phone on, do not disturb,
but sometimes it's actually about sitting with the uncomfortable stuff and understanding your patterns,
your boundaries, finally figuring out while you keep doing things that you swore you would never do again.
I'm Gemma Spag, the host of the Psychology of Your 20s podcast, and each week we unpack the psychology
behind the experiences that shape your 20s, from relationships and friends.
friendships to money, anxiety, confidence, attachment, just becoming more comfortable with who you are.
Unlike the quarter life crisis, which is depicted as the collapse, the quarter life reinvention is the expansion and growth of something.
When we develop the ability to be happy by ourselves, nobody else can take that from you.
So this self-care September, don't just take care of yourself. Get to know yourself as well.
Listen to the psychology of your 20s on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
I age 11 or so, at least 70% have a phone.
Middle school is a different world than the one we grew up in.
I'm Dr. Joy, and this is therapy for black girls.
We spend real time on it in our surviving middle school run,
bringing in a child psychologist and a psychiatrist
who's raising two black girls of his own
to talk about what's really going on with our kids right now.
So it's literally physiological and neurological and psychological and psychological chaos happening
all this end up.
We got into group chats and gaming, friendships and bullying,
and how to tell the difference between healthy monitoring
and the kind of surveillance that erodes trust.
There's belonging.
You could think of belonging as,
I can be myself and I can still be accepted,
and then there's fitting in.
Spitting in says I have to change who I am
in order to avoid rejection.
Then we turn the conversation toward the fathers,
sitting down with therapist Keer Gaines on Black fatherhood
and what it means to raise a daughter through this stage.
You don't have on shorts, so you can't do flips,
you have on the dress, so you have to cross your legs.
That's the range of this run, from screen time to identity to the father's doing the work at home.
You have to get off her device.
But the reality is there's a lot of life out there that we don't want you as your adults in their lives to miss out on.
This has been our surviving middle school run.
Brought to you by the people who spend their careers thinking about exactly this.
I'm Dr. Joy.

Oh, okay.
She was in Paradise.
Picture of Susie in a stunning pink dress.
This is Paradise.
Yes.
This is paradise.
This is the one and only day that I was there.
Was this the rose ceremony?
This is the rose ceremony.
Yeah.
I knew I was going home.
I guess I could have technically stayed.
But in that moment I was like, there's no rose for me tonight.
So I will just have fun, you know.
Yeah, I think I was secretly crying.
in my room like before all of this and then yeah I remember trying on my dresses when I came home
from paradise and also crying I was just like so bummed you know like body is tea oh thank you
that's a fantastic color as well did you just go straight to the bar and that's Lisa that's Lisa
shout out um did I go straight to the bar yeah and just have a fun night it like wasn't that
fun. I mean, I think we took like cute pictures. I remember just sitting there being like,
I don't know why I came. Like I honestly was like, this is so like, why am I here? I'm like,
I'm too old. I'm too, I got too much history with people here. Like, why did I agree? Like,
why did I think this was just going to be like a silly fun summer? Like, why? And yeah, I was really,
I honestly was really sad and disappointed. It is sad because everyone seems to get a silly fun
summer and it seems like when I went to I had the same I'd go up in my room like what am I doing
yeah well you encouraged me before doing paradise I was like considering it where did I saw you at some
oh Rachel Kirkconnell's um event and you really encouraged me to like you really just go have
fun any other season I know six people there yeah and I hope you know fingers crossed you to another
oh my god this is actually really funny obviously Lexxie
Lexi was seeing Justin and we both come down that morning and we're like, oh, cute outfit.
We're both wearing cherries and we were talking about freezing our eggs.
Like we literally, we had so much in common that we're, I'm like, this is just so on brand for us to be like in matching outfits right now.
So this is a picture of Susie and Lexi.
You guys kind of look similar here a little.
I know.
Both stunning, gorgeous and your matching outfits.
We both are freckle.
girls that love a fake tan.
And she brought a full-on spray tan machine to Paradise.
And she brought it on her season too.
She's a real one.
She's a real one.
And she was like, anyone who needs a spray tan, I got you.
And I was like, we are the same.
Like, we really were so similar.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh my gosh.
That's so cute.
Her body is tea.
I love your hair, your curly hair when you wear it like that.
What a time.
Oh my God.
When was this?
This is a picture of Susie in bed fanning herself.
Oh, I was probably crying.
Was I crying?
No, you weren't crying.
This was before Paradise started.
You're sitting in your hotel room, just shooting B-roll on what you do to stay occupied in the hotel room before it's paradise starts.
Okay, that's some context.
Okay, we just got some context.
So this was pre-filming.
I thought I was using a fan maybe to avoid crying because I pretty much cried the whole time.
So, yeah, we film little intro packages.
Obviously, whether you're going on a bachelor, bachelorette, or paris.
And yeah, they, they, like, came to my room and they're like, okay, what are you, what are you doing a day when you're in holding for a week before going on the beach? And I was like, let me walk you through my day. I get up. I order fruit and I fan myself in bed. And I wait. Yeah. Waiting for someone to come tell me what to do.
Literally waiting. Susie, I'll never forget going into your room and, like, seeing an entire pineapple. A giant pineapple. You're like, yeah, this is what I eat every day. Yeah, they were, the fruit was amazing in Costa Rica. I need to go back.
Because they would bring, well, I was just in a room, so I don't really know.
But like, I'm like, the experience was so amazing.
But they would just bring down so much fruit.
I would order like a fruit cup and they would bring out a full thing of fruit.
And I would eat the whole thing.
Like a platter.
They brought out a platter of fruit every single day.
And I ate it every day.
I was eating so much fruit.
Yeah.
That's probably why I was kind of snatched on the beach.
That was not happening in the paradise I went to.
I think I ate shrimp.
And which was really good.
I don't know if we had shrimp cake
shrimp cake
No please that's so douche at this way
It feels like
I couldn't see shrimp for like years after
Without thinking about
Still people would come up to you and be like
Shrimp
Shrimp Gage
Yeah
What a time
Wow
What a moment?
Okay this was at a golden bachelor
Final Rose
Was it Jones?
I think it was Jones
Yeah
I think this was Jones
Golden Bachelor finale, Golden Bachelorette.
And Katie's called me and said, hi.
You know, we'd love for you to be there.
We'd love for you to, yeah, be in the audience.
But I have to be fully transparent with you.
And I did talk with this person as well.
But your ex-Cleaton will be there.
Super kind.
Not, you know, not trying to catch us off guard or anything like that.
But me and Clayton are on great terms.
You know, we don't have any beef that I know of.
So I was very nervous making that phone call because I didn't know how you guys were still.
Like I think it had been a year since we had seen you together publicly.
And there really was no malintent to like have you guys come and catch each other off guard.
But it was just like, shut up, Rachel.
Like, no, which is why I was so transparent.
I was like, I'm going to be, I'm going to level with you.
Like we've also invited Clayton.
We were just trying to stack the audience.
Totally.
Period.
As you did.
And we did.
So I was really happy that you guys came.
And I remember asking you guys to take this photo.
That's so funny.
And then being like, are you guys okay if I post this photo?
Because I wasn't trying to like fuck with you guys at all.
Yeah.
Was this a year after you guys broke up?
I think it was a couple years after.
Because this was like last year.
This was almost two years ago.
Two years ago.
Yeah.
So it was probably two years.
A year post breakup maybe.
Yeah, I guess it was probably a year.
Also, I'm wearing the same necklace.
And a guy who I don't talk to anymore gave me
this it's one of my favorites though I still wear it sunny I love this outfit too yeah had you guys
spoken at all in those two years or was this the first we did yeah we kept up not often but we would
see each other at brand things and so if somebody gave me a heads up he was going um we would be in
touch or whatever but yeah his baby mama drama because you've been really supportive throughout that
i know he said that yeah he leaned on you a little bit with that for sure so yeah we definitely
We definitely were in communication of sorts, but always very like just friendship.
I just, I think we just went through a lot together.
So it was just like, a lot.
Yeah.
Just want the best for him.
Susie, I'm so curious just since you guys are talking about it, what if I hadn't told you that Clayton was going to be there?
Like, would that have been weird?
No, I don't think so.
I think I would have been like, oh my gosh, I can't believe you're here.
I think I would have been like excited and just friendly.
Yeah, I'm trying to remember.
I guess I do.
That was kind of maybe one of the first times I'd seen him in a long time.
It was definitely the first time that you guys were together publicly.
Yeah, that makes sense.
Because I remember it being like a little bit of a weird feeling where you're just like, oh, this is my ex.
Like, we're good, but like what do I say to him when I'm standing next to him kind of a thing, you know?
Were you guys seated next to each other?
I don't think so, no.
We were a few rows away.
Okay.
Come on, Rachel.
Give us a little more credit than that.
You know what?
We've both been through it.
I think we expect anything at this point.
That's true.
Susie, thank you so much for coming on the podcast.
It's always so amazing talking to you and walking down memory lane and everything.
So please come back.
