Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. I'm Jamel Hill, host to the Sports and Politics podcast, Spolitics. And on the latest episode of Spolitics, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries joins me for a candid conversation about the state of the Democratic Party. What do Republicans say to you privately
Starting point is 00:00:17 that they won't say publicly? Many of them are in fear of their political lives. We continue to say to them, you were elected to defend your constituents. And there's life after Congress. Make sure to listen to this episode of Spoletix, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, my name is Enya Umanzor.
Starting point is 00:00:37 And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobble. Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Open your free IHeartRadio app, search emergency intercom, and listen now. Why are TSA rules so confusing? You got a hoot of you. I'm take it off. I'm Manny. I'm Noah. This is Devin. And we're best friends and journalists with a new podcast called No Such Thing, where we get to the bottom of questions like that. Why are you screaming?
Starting point is 00:01:19 I can't expect what to do. Now, if the rule was the same, go off on me. I deserve it. You know, lock him up. Listen to No Such Thing on the IHeart Radio app. Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. No such thing. I'm Dr. Joy Hardin-Bradford, host of the Therapy for Black Girls podcast. I know how overwhelming it can feel if flying makes you anxious.
Starting point is 00:01:43 In session 418 of the Therapy for Black Girls podcast, Dr. Angela Nealbarnett and I discuss flight anxiety. What is not a norm is to allow it to prevent you from doing the things that you want to do. the things that she were meant to do listen to therapy for black girls on the iHeart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcast hey everyone welcome back to bed your happy hour i'm joe and i'm serena and we are here with not one not two not three but four guests uh we are here with spencer john m jeremy and hakeem all from gen season and they are grant's best friends according to grant i don't know how you guys feel Do you guys all like Grant?
Starting point is 00:02:28 You're all cool with them? Absolutely. Absolutely. Grant's a man. It's my guy right there. Absolutely. I would have been insulted if I wasn't chosen. So I'm glad it's reciprocated, you know?
Starting point is 00:02:38 It's like if you like a girl and you're not really sure. And then she says she likes you too. It's nice. This is good. Yeah. Some solid reassurance being called on to this podcast for sure. Was there anyone Grant didn't get along with? I think Grant was like Switzerland.
Starting point is 00:02:54 Grant got along with everybody. Yeah. Definitely a chill job with everybody. Yeah. Okay. What's, um, Hakeem,
Starting point is 00:03:02 what's new with you? Man, I'm, I started a new job. Um, been working out, getting my body ready for paradise. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:11 That's true. Yeah, I've been reading too. Fun fact, I've never finished a book before. So this year I'm like, this is going to be the year. I'm going to finish a book.
Starting point is 00:03:18 Never? Never? Never? No. Even school? Yeah. Spark notes. Serena,
Starting point is 00:03:24 you know this. Come on, girl. What you mean? Absolutely. How does it feel that you're one of two people? So it's just you and Jonathan that have been invited to Paradise, right? Yes. So how does it feel? It's very, very, I'm honestly, I don't get why I was, I feel like, but it's so, I'm so appreciative of it. And I, I'm so thankful. I feel like if I was in your shoes, I'd be, though, like, anticipating my friends to start getting their calls also. oh absolutely i mean i'd be like all right i can't be the only one down there like it can't be johnathan and all the girls or it could it be i guess also no no no why would he not want that i'm looking at i'm thinking about him i was just saying like i'm thinking in the back end too like i i talk to germany very frequently and i'm always like germany we'll make sure you're behind
Starting point is 00:04:15 coming to spence that's my boy you guys know i ride or diaper i mean i went back from my boy in that mental all and then james you already know jay mitch is my dog so like yes if please Don't leave me by myself. I mean, Jigs is my guy, too. He's part of the gang. But you got to bring the whole gang. You know what I'm saying? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:33 Yeah. Okay. That's enough from you. Damn, Joe. Wait, wait, wait. Last, Hakeem. Out of Grant's women, is there anyone that you're interested in? Just looking based off a headchats.
Starting point is 00:04:48 Is there a name you can throw out there? Yeah. I think the no drama Lama Alex, I think she matches my personality a lot. I think she's stunning as well. I think she carries herself very well, too. So I'm a big fan of her. I'm a huge fan of her. Okay, nice.
Starting point is 00:05:04 And Spencer, hopefully Grant isn't engaged her, though. She's Canadian. I like her, too. Oh. She's the only. I actually, I actually, out of her headshot, I think I have her in like my top three.
Starting point is 00:05:17 No, you didn't. But that's okay. We can pretend you do. Yes, I, yes, I do. Can I just tell her she's right. Just agree. just agree that Spencer what's new with you any anything um no busy holiday season for the business and outside of that just getting back into the groove of everything new year setting some good goals
Starting point is 00:05:41 and yeah nice it's all that's new john the first time we're having you here welcome to the podcast hey hey thanks for having me what's new with you anything yeah uh started my first year of medical school It's crazy. It's as hard as they say it is, but I really love it. And we're starting our second semester right now. So on the grind. What type of doctor are you trying to be? Well, I'm going to be pretty open, but I think orthopedic surgery right now, that's where I'm headed. Nice. I had orthopedic surgery. Did you? Yeah. All right. Really? What happened? I had orthoscopic surgery on a meniscus tear when I was like 16. No way. What were you doing? dancing got you got you i tore my ACL in both minutes guys so i've had the same it's tough
Starting point is 00:06:32 i wouldn't let's out on anybody no it's rough it's rough my mom actually has one right now so maybe in four plus years you could do surgery on her knee yeah yeah just give me a call whenever short years four short years and then uh jeremy what's up not much what's new york working traveling Nothing, nothing new on my end. What we saw, I think there was rumors of like you and Maria or something. Is that true? No, not true. You want to confirm her to deny?
Starting point is 00:07:08 Oh, that's a. You could jump in. You could jump in. Is he lying? No, no. She's a cool person. Just friends. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:18 That's what I figured. And you guys are all, everyone in this chat is single, right? damn right currently yes would everybody everyone's down to go to paradise if i'm saying i love a good beach germy spencer say hell yeah which it's not that long away it's not that long away what month are we in january february march april i look like i need a tan right this is Dallas it's snowing right now i need a tan so you don't complain it's like 10 degrees in new york Yeah, it's really cold out here. Okay, so, Grant, what could you tell us about Grant?
Starting point is 00:08:01 We're getting ready for his season. You guys are his closest friends from the season. What was Grant's style on Jen season? I feel like everyone kind of has a different approach when they're a contestant. I'll tell you, so I ruined with Grant in New Zealand. Love the guy, by the way. I think he'll be a great lead. Dude, naps all the time.
Starting point is 00:08:23 I when he was announced I'm like oh I'm pumped for him but like how are you going to do this 16 17 18 hour days yeah we'd be having my walk back in my room he was asleep until the second we'd be having guy talks and then we look around grants gone and just to sleep he was a stealthy nap her yeah I will say I there were a few guys on the show some on this call that I had some really deep heart to hearts with just one-on-one and Grant was one of them actually pretty early on. And yeah, just an awesome guy that's looking for his person, his forever. So I am amped to see him find that. Being on the show, prior to being on the show, I hadn't watched a full season ever. And now I'm obsessed with reality TV. So it was my gateway drug.
Starting point is 00:09:18 What are you watching? I love the drama. I love it. What am I not watching? I mean, That totally lines up for me, Spencer, that you're now in sexuality television having met you, yeah. But, yeah, no, I'm just amped to watch. We're going to have Bachelor nights, me and my friend group, all my best friends who were married with wives. So for them, it's socially acceptable. For me, it's a little weird. Do you, well, it's not weird because you were on the show, but do you think it's going to be more fun watching this season, or do you think it was more fun watching your own season? I saw it a trick question.
Starting point is 00:09:54 I just think, like, watching yourself can be really stressful, whereas you're watching, like, your friend be the lead. It's going to be so much, so much easier watching him. I was, you don't know how things are going to turn out when your episodes are airing and when you're sitting there with your family and your loved ones, you talk a lot on the show and a very small portion of it makes it on air, but you're always wondering what makes it and what does it. So, yeah, no, watching Grant's going to be way.
Starting point is 00:10:22 more enjoyable. Did you guys see a change in Grant when he started falling for Jen? Was he a different guy? I don't think so. No. I think that's what I was going to say. Well, I mean, Jeremy, maybe you have something else to say. I know you said you were in the butt. I think I saw a really authentic, really genuine dude through and through. And I'm really excited to see that shine. I mean, I didn't see much change other than he got a little sympathy sometimes. And he would start to tell us like, yo, I'm really, really falling for. but no like real behavior changes. He's like the cool guy in the world, so looking forward to doing that.
Starting point is 00:10:59 Jeremy was there when the night that it was actually one of the nights in New Zealand that we were all sitting at a rose ceremony, like a cocktail party, the free row ceremony party, and Grant was just sitting there and we're all sitting there talking and randomly goes, man, how do you guys feel about that? about Jen. And we start talking and goes, yeah, I'm in love with her. And we're all sitting there. We're like, um, okay, that kind of came out nowhere. And so that was a complete shift for me and seeing how he was approaching his relationship with her. And then him and I actually got the axe on the same night. And we took the car after the Rose ceremony together. And it was
Starting point is 00:11:51 definitely you can see that he was he was really really broken up about it so um no i definitely saw a shift that night in new zealand when he kind of just told us all they loved her before he had even told her right jeremy i mean that maybe jeremy can take it go for it i was pretty i'm i can't say i'm shocked to hear like we were pretty deep in the process at that point, but he was just not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve, like even just to the guys who are also competing for Jen's heart. So I think he'll do great as a lead. I'm super excited to watch this season. I think he'll, you know, he's a mature guy. He's 31, 32, been in long relationships. Like, I don't think he's afraid to show his emotions and really, you know,
Starting point is 00:12:42 sort of lead a relationship. Nice. Having not met him, like we've only met him kind of briefed. briefly through interviews and stuff. You guys know him way better. I don't know if I would pick Jen as, like, the fit for him. Like, I don't know if I, like, knew them both if I would, like, set them up. Do you think that she's his type and who he's going to go for now as the lead? Or do you see him maybe with something different? Nah, he's not going for a girl.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Like, Jen's amazing. No, no, I'm just keeping the bean. No, yeah. No, I, that's what I was. I agree with you. Thank you, Hakee. That's what a lot. Jen is that girl.
Starting point is 00:13:18 Like, I rock with Jen heavy. That's my girl, right? She didn't invite me to her birthday party, but we're still chilling, right? But I'm, I would say Grant is, uh, Grant's super low key, super duper low key. He's not out there. Jen's out there. You know what I mean? So, like, I'm thinking that he's, I think he's going to go for a girl that is more low key
Starting point is 00:13:44 at his, you know, level type of thing. like because she doesn't want a girl that's going to be wild like really out there like because she's like a she's a diva like she's a princess you know what i'm saying so like you you see her you know like yeah like that's that's she's a princess yeah she's definitely a feisty chick and i feel like sometimes that like you know opposites attract thing can work i just don't see it like i don't see grant going for someone as like high energy like she jen's like living life in a big way right now and he's giving like super mellow super low key like he doesn't even post on social media
Starting point is 00:14:19 like you know what I mean so like he's a person that's very much of person some car selfies out there I don't know yeah he's got the Ferrari so he's showing it off I'm gonna throw out a hypothetical here let's say one of you two one of you four were to get a call from Grant and it's near the end and he's in love with two women what advice would you give him
Starting point is 00:14:44 Hakeem, you go first. Damn, it's got to be me first. Okay, Spencer, Spencer, you go first. Oh, shit. Oh, shoot. I mean, man, that's really, really tough. I've never been in love with two people at the same time. I think in that situation, you have to pull back on what realistically fits with you
Starting point is 00:15:08 and your life and your day to day and not be as caught up in the moment and actually, look, okay, long term in a marriage in my day to day, the things I like to do are passions, like everything. Can we grow together as a couple? Because I think that's where a lot of couples fall apart is instead of growing together, they grow apart. And so looking at realistically, like what is our day to day look like as opposed to, you know, you're in this fairy tale where you're going on these elaborate dates and, you know, it's such high stakes. Being able to ground yourself and look at, okay, how does everything fit with my family, her family, where we're living, would she be willing to move? Am I willing to move? You know, just kind of becoming a little more
Starting point is 00:15:54 realistic, but I don't know. That's tough. Anybody else? I think what Spencer said is true. Those logistical things are important. But even like when you're deciding between two girls, I think it's, I go even a little simpler and broader. It's like, who do I want to do nothing with? Like at the end of the day, like, yeah, dates are fun. Trips are fun. But, like, who don't want to just, like, sit on a couch and silence with? Like, who's going to be that person with me for, like, 40 years when we're, like, doing nothing?
Starting point is 00:16:25 Yeah. And who I'm, like, between those two girls, like, you really feel at home with? Like, that's where I'd go. Yeah. And another thing, I think everybody's got, like, a set of non-negotiables and a set of principles that they'll stand on in a relationship. And I think in that moment, if he gets to that tough decision, he's got to, think of his relationship with both women coming across each of those principles and each of
Starting point is 00:16:48 those non-negotiables will we argue over x y and z will we both enjoy this that whatever that is for him um and kind of let his gut make the decision that's tough that's a very tough call to make but you got to maybe like close his eyes and just think about himself um think about himself and that woman and both of those women in those moments and hopefully he comes up with something good luck to him if that's what that's what's going down I For me, I would think about it is, I know one of the things that me and him connected on is our families weren't the most, I would say, functional families. We come from a little bit more broken families. I know he has, like, I'm not going to speak on, you know, his relationship with his father and everything.
Starting point is 00:17:28 But I know one of the most important things for him is to become a father and have a family of his own and have a healthy family and kind of cut off like generational curses and so forth. So I would say, like, looking at it, like, deeper in, like, 20 years from now, 30 years from now, who would I want to be the mother of my kids and, like, who would possess the same values and morals that would be able to, like, help me raise my kids to be the best man or best women that they can be in the, you know, in the world. So I think that's for me. That's what I think about, you know, when I'm getting married, like, I'm starting a family. So I just think about my kids and who would be the, in my opinion, who would be the best mother. I'm sure both of the ladies, if he does fall in love with two ladies, would be phenomenal mothers. But the type of parenting style that would be affected for both of you guys in the sex, right? Because everyone has different kind of techniques on how they parent, if you say.
Starting point is 00:18:19 So I think if you find somebody who's going to be on the same wavelength, the same kind of just mindset on like how parenting and what they want for their families. I'm Jemail Hill, host of the Sports and Politics Podcasts, Politics. And on the latest episode of Politics, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries joins me for a candid conversation about the state of the Democratic Party. What do Republicans say to you privately that they won't say publicly? Many of them are in fear of their political lives. And that's been part of the challenge. But we continue to say to them, you were elected to defend your constituents, to stand up for your constituents. and there's life after Congress.
Starting point is 00:19:00 And you should be willing to actually want to be able to look back on your time in the House of Representatives knowing that you can keep your head held high because you did the right thing. Donald Trump is gone in three and a half years. But their legacy or their failure to stand up to the extremism and the unprecedented assault on America as we know it will be with them forever. Make sure to listen to Spolitics on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast. or wherever you get your podcast. Imagine that you're on an airplane and all of a sudden you hear this. Attention passengers.
Starting point is 00:19:37 The pilot is having an emergency and we need someone, anyone, to land this plane. Think you could do it? It turns out that nearly 50% of men think that they could land the plane with the help of air traffic control. And they're saying like, okay, pull this, do this, pull that, turn this. It's just, I can do my eyes close. I'm Mani. I'm Noah. This is Devin.
Starting point is 00:19:59 And on our new show, No Such Thing, we get to the bottom of questions like these. Join us as we talk to the leading expert on overconfidence. Those who lack expertise lack the expertise they need to recognize that they lack expertise. And then, as we try the whole thing out for real. Wait, what? Oh, that's the run right. I'm looking at this thing. Listen to No Such Thing on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get,
Starting point is 00:20:28 your podcasts. Hi, my name is Enya Umanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble.
Starting point is 00:20:51 Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your free IHeartRadio app. Search Emergency Intercom. And listen now. Hey, sis, what if I could promise you you never had to listen to a condescending finance, bro? Tell you how to manage your money again. Welcome to Brown ambition.
Starting point is 00:21:08 This is the hard part when you pay down those credit cards. If you haven't gotten to the bottom of why you were racking up credit or turning to credit cards, you may just recreate the same problem a year from now. When you do feel like you are bleeding from these high interest rates, I would start shopping for a debt consolidation loan, starting with your local credit union, shopping around online, looking for some online lenders because they tend to have fewer fees and be more affordable. Listen, I am not here to judge. It is so expensive in these streets.
Starting point is 00:21:37 I 100% can see how in just a few months you can have this much credit card debt when it weighs on you. It's really easy to just like stick your head in the sand. It's nice and dark in the sand. Even if it's scary, it's not going to go away just because you're avoiding it. And in fact, it may get even worse. For more judgment-free money advice, listen to Brown Ambition on the IHeart Radio. app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Do you think, and I mean, look, anything's possible, but when he goes into being
Starting point is 00:22:09 The Bachelor, where any of you, like, I could definitely see him falling for more than one person or, like, no, I really don't expect him to do that. Like, were you being pulled one way or another? Yeah, I mean, to me, he seems like, or maybe it's just me, like, I'm a tunnel vision type big guy and I thought he was sort of the same way but I guess we'll find out. I feel like he's screaming like I'm going to fall in love with like seven girls.
Starting point is 00:22:35 Hell yes, Serena. He's about to fall in love like everyone. Yeah. Grand is a fucking love. Yeah. Yeah. Like that boy falls in love and he falls quick. That boy's emotional. No, but I think he'd fall for one for one person. Like one girl's going to catch his eye and he's going to be like all in. he's not but i mean i'm sorry go ahead i also think he's really intentional about what he's doing and i think i think someone's going to fall in love with just anybody if you don't really have a
Starting point is 00:23:05 purpose i think he really wants to find love so he's going to look for it and he's going to find it he's not going to just say that i love you i love you i love you and not mean it i don't think i'll get no no he's actually going to fall in love with a lot of them i will bet you i will bet you my, my life savings that Grant will fall in love with two women at the end. I will bet you that as his best friend. I will tell you that. Who is not seven? No, I'm being dramatic when I say seven.
Starting point is 00:23:31 I don't think he's actually going to fall in love with seven women. Yeah, like, you're wild. She's not serious. But two women at the end, when he has to propose to both of them, he's going to be tore up. Do you think there's a chance? That boy's going to be tore up. Do you think there's a chance he doesn't fall in love? Oh, hell no.
Starting point is 00:23:49 He's going to fall in love. Yeah. No, he's going to, for sure. Yeah. Love's happening. No, yeah, for sure. No, he's for sure. What do you think are some red flags for Grant when it comes to women?
Starting point is 00:24:03 Drama. Drama. He hates drama. Oh, he hates drama. That's not great for show purposes. Yeah, he was not great, but he was like, I think Hakein was just saying he was Switzerland when we were all in the house. He was the one playing devil's advocate for people that we were like.
Starting point is 00:24:20 Like, no, this guy sucks. So, yeah, I think drama, especially drama with other girls in house will probably be a no-go for him. Yeah, I'm always interested in that because I think there's a lot of women too, but there's a lot of men that are like, I hate drama. But sometimes that doesn't mean that their tolerance for their partner's drama is low. so like I'm curious to see how he feels about women coming to him because he is a very compassionate person so I can see him also like giving a lot of empathy towards the women being like I'm having a hard time
Starting point is 00:24:59 and like this isn't going well yeah great call all all four of you could potentially be in paradise and some of grants women could be in paradise are you going to judge them off of what you see on the television or will you give them a chance when you're there
Starting point is 00:25:19 like if there's someone that let's let's just say someone's labeled the villain is that going to be in the back of your mind when you're in paradise I don't think so I think I think you've got to get to know the person before you just cast like crazy judgment because here's a thing we say talk do a lot so you never know
Starting point is 00:25:40 you never know I would I would like to say no but come on yeah it's going to be in the back of your mind for sure. I mean, yeah, but you got to be to know the person though. No, I'm with John on that. I don't think it would be like, you know the show
Starting point is 00:25:56 can get edited, a lot of stuff can get cut out. Yeah. You know, but no, no, no, no, no. Because what you say on camera is what they have on camera. So you can't get edited to be a person that you're not. Okay. Sure, but like. But you only, but you potentially only see 10% of who the person is.
Starting point is 00:26:17 but yeah but it's definitely going to be in the back of your mind like it it it doesn't have to be like you don't have to cast any judgment you can still get to know the person but it's definitely going to be in the back of your mind like if you see it it's going to be it's going to be sitting there like you saw it you know absolutely absolutely will that be the sale end all judgment no yeah i i agree i think that's i think that's the way to do it are you guys all comfortable with your reputation if going into paradise if you were all we're all we're all to go with what everyone's seen of you. I mean, I would say yes, but I don't want any more spiders.
Starting point is 00:26:56 That's about it. Like, that's cool. Like, I'm cool. Like, what, like, what you guys think of me, but I want no more spiders. You're definitely getting spiders. Why would you? That's over for you. That's why I say that.
Starting point is 00:27:08 What do you mean? Don't say that. I got to tell them what I don't and don't want. So I'm going to tell them I don't want that shit. That's going to, no, matter of fact, you're right. That's going to work. going to work. Keep doing that. Do you guys know what I'm terrified of? I'm terrified of finding my life partner and my perfect person I can spend forever with. It scares the shit out of me.
Starting point is 00:27:26 It's terrifying. I can't deal with it. That, oh my gosh, I just couldn't do it. It'd be so scary. Serena, can I say something? Yeah. So I was watching, because I've been watching back the later seasons. So like, first of all, I thought you were black. And then your mom added me on Instagram. Yeah, Mom Ed, Mrs. Pitt at me on Instagram. My mom's an active Instagram music. By the way, she's a total doll. And she's a total doll and she's a total babe too. She's gorgeous. But I just want to throw it out there. I had no clue you were half Indian. So I just, I just think everybody needs to know that because people think that's black. I know. I do mention it. I do talk about my. Wait, you're not black.
Starting point is 00:28:05 Ha, ha. I know. I talk about my Indian culture, but I just don't appear half Indian. I do Yeah, a lot, a lot of people think I'm half black. Yeah, I don't know. I definitely did some creeping. So I definitely did some digging with the family tree. Okay. So I literally added your family on my Instagram. Love the fam.
Starting point is 00:28:27 Just wanted to give the shout out to you. But yeah, I did, I didn't not know you were half Indian until your mom added me. So, yeah, I just wanted you're lifting. I'm glad that. I'm glad that's out there now. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, what else?
Starting point is 00:28:41 That was great. Thank you. What about, okay. uh grant grant what about his um rapping abilities and like now we're seeing um spoilers he's like uh he's giving me a little like r and b 90s kind of vibe here um i'll i'll speak on this there was a there's a piano in our like living room in in new zealand that dude is talented i would just be like sitting it would be like me and maybe i don't know like jonathan in the room Grant would come in and you just start like riffing on the piano and just like lyrics.
Starting point is 00:29:16 And I'm like, yo, you're amazing at this. I don't know how to come across like on TV and like what they're going to do with that. But like in the trailer, he's playing a he's playing a song on the piano. He wrote that during our season. Oh, yeah. We sense that that was an original, an original for sure. Yeah. And then on any bus ride, whenever we were freestyle rapping,
Starting point is 00:29:40 grant was the ringleader for any of it super talented i did not attempt to do freestyling but grant did it he was really good i feel like they need to show because he's clearly a naturally musical person he's passionate about music he's like expressing himself through different like instruments and vocals and all these things i just think they need to show it in a way that doesn't come across as kind of cringy because like if they just show you like So what you're saying is Grant's coming across. I think he could potentially, I haven't seen the season yet, but I think it can potentially come across when you're watching it as like,
Starting point is 00:30:20 ooh, is this cool or is this an awkward moment? Like if I'm in the room for it. But like if you guys are all on a bus and you're just freestyling and having a good time and he like slays, then that's cool. It was cool. But when like I like, they get to show it in a more like organic way. So it doesn't feel like someone like thrown him at a piano. I'm like, hey man, go sing to that girl.
Starting point is 00:30:40 that you love. I think they will. I mean, he's the only guy. I mean, you remember it. So now he's got a lot of. Yeah. You hope they treat the lead. Yes. And I thought it was like when he came out of the limo and his rap to Jen, we were all like, ah, where's this going? And then I was like, oh, no, like this was actually like he came across really great. So I'm curious to see how it looks. Could could each of you, John, we'll start with you, give us a fact about Grant that the viewers may not know. Grant can probably moonwalk better than a lot of, a lot of people you know. But, oh, y'all saw that.
Starting point is 00:31:15 Y'all saw them. We were thunder down underhand. I didn't know that. So that counts. That counts. Well, yeah, yeah. Everybody else, everybody else is worried about embarrassing themselves. And here he goes, moonwalking out on stage.
Starting point is 00:31:25 Like, coolest dude you'll ever meet. So there's my fact. Hakeem. Um, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, let's think. I had it. Okay, Jeremy, you go. I'm giving you more time. I'm giving you more ties.
Starting point is 00:31:44 We'll circle back. Grant's actually a super philosophical person where we'd just be like in the room and he'd like throw out these scenarios like civilization type philosophy questions and he'll like really try to engage people. And yeah, he's very philosophical. He's of Dominican and Jamaican, um, the sect.
Starting point is 00:32:12 How is that something that you know one would know? Because you don't know that. I didn't know that. Do you know his father? I mean, no one even knew Serena was half Indian. So I trust Hakeem. Correct. I trust the Kim too.
Starting point is 00:32:23 Like what? He's the only one fact checking people's backcrow. Like what? I mean, I know it's, oh, anyways. Yeah. I would just say grants, just an incredibly talented person. we've been over the musical talent that he has moonwalking and he can also gritty i mean he's just got he's got dance moves for days he can sing he can i mean just a super talented guy and i'm excited
Starting point is 00:32:49 to see that shine on every monday night right yeah do you guys think he's someone that could potentially be blindsided as far as like falling for a woman who may not be as far as as far as long as he thinks she is? I think anyone could be. Any man or woman can be blindsided, like love blots. Yeah, that's fair. Yeah, I think with him, he's a person
Starting point is 00:33:18 that wants to get to know everybody, and he's willing to give anyone a fair shot. He doesn't look at just, like, looks. He kind of wants to get to know their souls, find out if that's their soulmate. So he has potential maybe getting blinded by love, and hopefully that doesn't happen. But I do think with his big heart, he wears his heart in his sleeve. I think it's a very, very, very, um, a big possibility. What do you think Grant's red flags are? Like, if, like, oh, like, if you were to warn the women about anything other than his, yeah, yeah, yeah, like that. Yeah. What would you say his red flag?
Starting point is 00:33:47 Warn some of these women about Grant. Don't gossip. I wouldn't, I just don't gossip. Don't, if you have nothing good to say, just don't say it at all. I mean, he's going to get icked out by that. No, no, we're saying we're saying the opposite way. The red flags. He were to tell, these are Grant's red flags. I got nothing.
Starting point is 00:34:11 Grant is a green flags. Oh, he'll got a red flags. Grant is a green flag. Okay, all right. That's two guys. Let's see. Spencer, Jeremy,
Starting point is 00:34:20 what do we got? Anything? Yeah, you're awfully quiet down there. Oh, no. Oh, yeah, no, I got red flag. Grant doesn't know how to pack accordingly because he almost had to use some of my clothes during Jen's season.
Starting point is 00:34:33 So make sure, make sure you're packing for the trips. But outside of that, green flag. I mean, you also had really nice clothes during the trip. He might have just been doing that to try to put on some of your drift, though. I don't know. In his defense, in his defense. Jeremy? Well, okay.
Starting point is 00:34:52 Grants, red flags. Maybe timeliness, we'll be asleep. He's late. He's late to the party. He's going to be real tired. They need to make sure they look. him up with coffee and energy drinks. He doesn't have any red flags.
Starting point is 00:35:07 He'll be on time for airtime. Everyone's got a red flag. He's got something. Nah. He has a red flag. Everyone has a red flag. Yeah. Nah.
Starting point is 00:35:16 Okay. Hakeep, you got red flags. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I'm Jamil. Hosted the Sports and Politics Podcasts politics. And on the latest episode of politics, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries joins me for a candid conversation about the state of the Democratic Party. What do Republicans say to you privately that they won't say publicly?
Starting point is 00:35:40 Many of them are in fear of their political lives, and that's been part of the challenge. But we continue to say to them, you were elected to defend your constituents, to stand up for your constituents, and there's life after Congress. And you should be willing to actually want to be able to look back on your time in the House of Representatives, knowing that you can keep your head held high. because you did the right thing. Donald Trump is gone in three and a half years. But their legacy or their failure to stand up to the extremism
Starting point is 00:36:12 and the unprecedented assault on America as we know it will be with them forever. Make sure to listen to Spolitics on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Imagine that you're on an airplane and all of a sudden you hear this. Attention passengers. The pilot is having a... An emergency, and we need someone, anyone, to land this plane.
Starting point is 00:36:37 Think you could do it? It turns out that nearly 50% of men think that they could land the plane with the help of air traffic control. And they're saying like, okay, pull this, until this. Pull that, turn this. It's just, I can do my eyes close. I'm Manny. I'm Noah. This is Devon.
Starting point is 00:36:53 And on our new show, no such thing. We get to the bottom of questions like these. Join us as we talk to the leading expert on overconfidence. Those who lack expertise lack the expertise they need to recognize that they lack expertise. And then, as we try the whole thing out
Starting point is 00:37:11 for real. Wait, what? Oh, that's the run right. I'm looking at this thing. Listen to no such thing on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, my name is Enya Yumanzoor. And I'm Drew Phillips.
Starting point is 00:37:27 And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble. Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you.
Starting point is 00:37:48 Open your free IHeartRadio app. Search Emergency Intercom and listen now. What would you do if one bad decision forced you to choose between a maximum security prison or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth. Unfortunately for Mark Lombardo, this was the choice he faced. He said, you are a number, a New York State number, and we own you. Shock incarceration, also known as boot camps, are short-term, highly regimented correctional programs that mimic military basic training.
Starting point is 00:38:21 These programs aim to provide a shock of prison life, emphasizing strict discipline, physical training, hard labor and rehabilitation programs. Mark had one chance to complete this program and had no idea of the hell awaiting him the next six months. The first night was overwhelming, and you don't know who's next to you. And we didn't know what to expect in the morning. Nobody tells you anything.
Starting point is 00:38:45 Listen to shock incarceration on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. You guys, you guys have been, you guys have been off Jen season for a decent amount of time now. Have any of you gotten into a relationship that maybe didn't last as long? Yeah, what's the dating life been like for you guys? I've been on one day. And it was someone I knew before the show. Yeah, I've just been kind of hungered down focusing on things.
Starting point is 00:39:24 Why only one day? Yeah, was there a follow up or no? are you going to see her again uh there no no you said no pretty quickly it didn't go good yeah you're you're you're stuttering and mumbling over there no it went no it went yeah no repeat yeah and yeah why no romantic connection no um hmm it's just you know awesome awesome woman the date was actually good. I'm just very narrowed down and focused on what I'm looking for.
Starting point is 00:40:02 I'm old, so I've dated a lot of people and I kind of know what works, what doesn't work. And there are some things that just might not have worked. Okay. Yeah, that's fair. I'm looking for long term. What's your dating life like? Honestly, it's non-existent.
Starting point is 00:40:17 Is that because you know you're going on Paradise? No, because I was unemployed. So I don't need to be taking out girls, I'm broke. Okay. And because, yeah, on Paradise, too, like, to be honest with you, when you, like, meet a woman and, like, you kind of exchange information, and then they find out, oh, you go on another dating show. They kind of be like, oh, so what's that going to be like? It's kind of just want to take. You know, I don't, so I just don't even want to take it there.
Starting point is 00:40:45 And then something comes down there like, oh, well, me and the Kim were damn, you're about to get married. Then he went on Paradise, you know, I don't want that to have to be a problem for me. So I'm just laying low-key being casual. John, what about you, dating? Yeah, no, I met a girl. She's really cool, really, really nice. I mean, it's early vibes, so I can't really... How'd you guys meet?
Starting point is 00:41:05 I can't really call it, but we met, like, through mutuals. Somebody who I used to work with was, she connected us. And like I said, it's early vibes, but I don't know. If things go any better than they have gone, then I don't know if that paradise would even beat for me. Wow, congratulations. Thank you, thank you. I appreciate you. Jeremy running through New York?
Starting point is 00:41:27 Yeah, I just started dating again. Like, I wasn't dating for a long time after the show, partially because I didn't want to, partially because I was busy. But like now that life's been settled. I'm starting to get back into it. Do you guys have your eyes? If you do or don't go to Paradise,
Starting point is 00:41:44 just past cast members, current cast members from Grant season, do you have your eye on anyone? Hakeem, last time you were here, you mentioned Liv. Yeah, I mean, I, I mean, I don't know her, but yeah, I mean, she's, I think she's gorgeous. She's absolutely gorgeous. I think she has a personality that can probably match mine, and I think she can keep up with me. Maybe can, like, kind of humble me a little bit, kind of like bring me down to earth.
Starting point is 00:42:11 So, yeah, I'm kind of looking for her to possibly meet her. And Alex, too, Alex, again, if he's not engaged to, to Grant. Your answer are good. It's like 1 in 30. Yeah, you have a chance. possibly but I want the best for him so if it's her I love that for him you know so but yeah okay so let's say let's say let's just let's say that Alex goes really far in the season and Grant breaks her heart and then you meet her and she's like I still have feelings for Grant oh gosh what would you say about Grant to make her be like I I no longer like him that's a toxic question you have to talk a little shit about Grant what would you say because now you're trying to date this girl Is that what you do? No, I mean, I'm just throwing it out there.
Starting point is 00:43:00 I mean, well, Grant's my best friend. So, like, if they made it to the point that he's, like, in love with her, probably not going to talk to her to keep it 100% honest with you. But how can you feel that because there's a girl on Grant season that actually went on a date with my brother. So I couldn't. Yeah, who is this girl? Um, it is, it was, um, Latia.
Starting point is 00:43:27 Okay, yeah. Utah girl. Yeah, Salt Lake City, Utah. That's where I'm from. That's where I'm from. Someone I know just posted, um, a story because she's that she's from Utah as well. Just being like, yay, my friends on it. She seems.
Starting point is 00:43:45 My brother had nothing but great things to say. She seems awesome, but I can't date someone that's on dates with my brother. that's I'm the older brother yeah yeah but what happened why no second date you know you should dig and then let us know I haven't I haven't duck he wasn't even the one that told me producers told me because she had mentioned it interesting are you close with your brother well yeah super even more interesting then yeah yeah no no it just didn't say like hey boys are so weird he wasn't like hey man you know that show you went really far on? I actually went on a day
Starting point is 00:44:22 with a girl who's on it now. No. No, he never said anything. He has to know, right? You know what? Maybe he doesn't. He might not know. Yeah, what if he doesn't know? He's not a reality TV guy. Yeah, he got a kick out of me being on the show. I heard that for my brothers. So maybe he has no clue. So, you know what? He might not. Because if he doesn't follow her and he doesn't follow the show,
Starting point is 00:44:47 I mean, it's still early. John, not you, because you're potentially dating. someone but spencer jeremy any names you would want to throw out or be willing to throw out that you are interested in yeah probably that girl liby lewis you know are you saying that's best with the keem because he's looking so mad at you right now that's exactly saying it no no uh no specific names also like the the goal is to not go on paradise i'd love to to meet someone before then So, so, wait, so, so Maria goes on Paradise and she's like, yo, I want to meet Germany. With their friends, they know each other.
Starting point is 00:45:28 But that's what I'm saying. If they went on Paradise and she's like, you know what, I want to get to know them on a romantic level. You're not going to want to get to know anybody specifically on a romantic level? Well, say, like, you could have texted me. Okay, bye. Spencer, how about you? I mean, the producers do their job and everyone that's on the show is gorgeous and I'm kind of in-person, get to know them, see if we vibe, if we work well together,
Starting point is 00:45:57 as we've mentioned already, they can only show so many facets of someone's personality. So I guess we just have to go and see who I gravitate towards, who gravitates towards me, and kind of go from there. Boo. You guys are boring. I had you. I could have predicted that Hakeem was going to be the only one to throw out a name. I would have been shocked if Spencer or Jeremy threw out a name. Acquiv's got backups too.
Starting point is 00:46:27 He's got about seven more names to him. He's willing to throw out. There's girls that you're subjectively attracted to. There's girls that you would see and you'd be like, oh, she's beautiful. You had kept every audacity, they'd be like, yes, she's gorgeous. I wouldn't mind seeing her on the beach. It's not, they're going to be like, you can only talk to that girl now since you mentioned her on them.
Starting point is 00:46:47 I'm going to talk to everybody and get to everybody. I keep throwing a living on your bus. He's talking to everyone now. I've, I haven't been scow on now, guys. You aren't subjected to just one person if you save the person's name, man. You feel me like? I'm just, I'm just starting the pot. I don't know who's going to be there.
Starting point is 00:47:07 Okay, so you don't know who Grant's girls are. But you know what's your date is your homie. You know the team that he's your brother, but you don't know the girl. We have one picture of Grants girl. Oh, my God. I'm just stirring the pot, too. These are my boys. Sturring them. I'm stirring the pot.
Starting point is 00:47:23 These are my guys. These are my guys. You too, Jay Mitch. James, you're not, you're not often. You're not single. So no, no, no, no, hold on. Hold on. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:47:32 Now, you're not taken. All right, John, but do you want to, is there someone that you would throw out? Maybe you would throw out there. I didn't want to put you in that situation, but your friend's doing it. Yeah. You got a little, bro, bro, bro, no. No, and I'm no, there's nobody I would throw out, like I said. I'm not, I'm not.
Starting point is 00:47:48 We would have to, we would have to see, we would have to see if it got to go and I would throw up. I was going to say if you threw out a girl, make sure she looks identical to the girl that you're dating right now. Haki, since you're out of role, I'm just going to start with you. Is there anything that you've learned about yourself in the, in the dating world since being on gen season that you may have changed? yeah I think I'm a people pleaser so like I've learned that about myself so I kind of value the person more than I value myself so I put everything into that person and then there's nothing left for me in that situation and that's a big problem for me just in life is in general like my friends I put everything everything in my friends my family and then I kind of have nothing left for myself I don't think that's very healthy for me I know that certain things that I have to work on and I know there's reasons why that happens. But yeah, I think that's the most important thing is to make sure not to lose myself when I'm in a relationship and not just put all and everything just into that person because I am a person too that needs my love and my energy and my time too. So I just need to make
Starting point is 00:48:57 time for myself as well and my goals and what I want and my aspirations. I'm just a humble brag. You're just a selfless, wonderful man who just. I really like that answer. I know you did. I see I see you taking it like, wow, that's so sweet. That's so, it's so nice. Oh, Joe. Joe, why are you going to do like that? Hakeem, you're pushing all your friends right now, and I'm enjoying it. But somebody's got to fuck with you a little bit.
Starting point is 00:49:26 Jeremy on a daily basis fuck with me every day. I get him three from this one podcast. You send us lyrics to songs that we don't give a fuck about. Look at your background. He has you as his background. Look at your background. No, I'll. He's like my one of our best friends, too.
Starting point is 00:49:51 How about the rest of you guys? Anything that, anything? Yeah, I mean, push through nerves. No, go ahead, go ahead. John, you go first. No, I was going to say push through nerves. I mean, a lot of times I was nervous and tell. And I would let it, like, get in my head a little bit.
Starting point is 00:50:07 But having gone through, like, what would be. experienced on the show. It's like you push through, you're going to have a great time regardless so just, I don't know, be yourself. That's what I learned. I took that away and I feel like it's helping me kind of thrive. Not only dating, but like in life. I like that. Spencer, you're up. My time on the show has shown me how valuable my time is and I just don't want to waste any time dating. I know what I want, know what I'm looking for. So I'm not just going to go on dates to go on dates, which I had done previously. Yeah, I'm just putting a lot more thought into how I spend my time with people and making
Starting point is 00:50:47 sure that the time that I spend with people is with people that I want my life long term. And that extends to friendships as well, you know. Obviously, these guys on the call are guys that I wanted my life for a long time. So I spend time talking with them, but there have been other people that, you know, I don't see myself knowing them for very long or wanting to spend time with them or being interested and spending time with them. So just being selective with my time. Jeremy, how about you? Yeah. Yeah, like two things. One, something that I was trying to like work on even before the show and the show just helped like speed that up is just how important communication is. Like obviously on the show
Starting point is 00:51:28 you need to not force it, but like it's a small timeline. You only get so much time. So you really need to learn how to how to communicate very openly. And then just like in dating in general, like I'm so, I mentioned this before, but I'm so tunnel vision. Like I don't, I don't like every girl, but then when I like a girl, like, I want to be with you. I want to spend time with you. So it's more about like me trying to set like personal like boundaries, like self-control. Like if I like you, I want to see you every day. But I know that's like that. Paradise is definitely for you. Yeah, because you would. Because you will see them. You will, you will see them. You will, You will see them every day.
Starting point is 00:52:07 Okay, we just heard from, we just heard from Grant and he said, what's up to you guys and that he misses all of you. That was just, my boy, tell him we miss him. Has he told you guys anything about the season? And we're excited for everything. Nothing. Is he saying, like, you don't have to tell us what he told you, obviously, if you don't want to, but like, has he been really tight-lipped or has he come back and kind of been like,
Starting point is 00:52:32 this is semi where things are at or what went down or how he's. feeling or has he been like, don't ask me. I'm a vault. Hakeem, I think this one's for you. No, I'm for you. I'm, I'm chilling, bro. I'm, she's asking. So he knows everything. No, I don't know what? Why are you looking away when you're answering that? I'm so happy, Hakeem, you've gotten casted on Paradise because I just can't wait to have you on this podcast again. It is a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:53:05 Honestly, thank you guys so much for coming on and taking the time out of your busy days. Hakeem, I know you're driving in a car and the rest of you guys are working and busy. So thank you guys so much. Of course. Thank you for having you guys.
