San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, Palm Springs, and Henderson, Nevada.
That's Las Vegas for all you locals.
Barbell Shrugged is coming to Walmart this week.
Three programs. Three programs. We're talking about them on the show today.
It's so exciting. We've got a fat loss training program that requires no weights.
There's a cardio program for walking and running as well as a strength training
program. If you live in those areas, I need you at your Walmart store in the pharmacy,
performance nutrition section. That is where Barbell Shrugged is launching the very first
training programs, like real strength conditioning, real training programs coming to the
shelves of Walmart. Get to performance nutrition. Get into the pharmacy. That's where performance
nutrition is. If you do not see them in your stores this week or next week or the week after, go to the
pharmacy. Please go to the pharmacy and say, I want these training programs. I know they exist.
I know that you can get them in your store and I know that we're going to change countless lives, like literally millions of lives.
We are in 20 stores spread out across Chula Vista, National City, San Diego County, Orange
County, LA County, Los Angeles, Palm Springs area, and Henderson, Nevada, Las Vegas.
So please go to the pharmacy if you do not see them in your store
and tell them that you want
Barbell Strug strength training programs.
We're gonna create strong, healthy people in this world.
I promise you.
We're working really, really hard
to get this into as many stores as possible.
And one thing that we need is your help.
If you live in those areas, get into those stores.
The programs are on the shelves for $9.48.
That's as low as we could possibly get the price
to affect as many lives as possible.
We're incredibly excited about this.
I never thought that Walmart was gonna be a part
of the barbell shrug story, but we did it.
It's like eight whole months of work
just to make this happen and a lifetime of work
for us to be able to have the opportunity to get on the shelves, meet the right people, and really, really create change in this world
about how strong and healthy people we can just make real lasting results and help people
that have never really been talked to in the health and fitness space.
Barbell Shrugged is in Walmart this week.
That sounds awesome. And in this show, we're going to talk about everything that happened
while we were down in Arkansas, working out and hanging out with all the Walmart people,
how well they treated us, how cool it is that it all happened, and even a little fun backstory on
me shattering my shoulder. Friends, thank you so much.
If you can get to your pharmacy,
even if you don't live in those areas,
and tell the pharmacy managers
that you want Barbell Shrugged on the shelves,
get in there.
The programs are $9.48.
We literally have found the lowest possible price
that we can sell training programs for
and deliver the highest quality product.
And this thing's just getting started, but we need your help to get into the store.
Spread the word as loud and as far as you possibly can.
Thank you so much. I hope you guys enjoy the show.
Go to Walmart.
Welcome to Barbell Shrugged. We're talking about everything this morning.
Doug Larson in-house, Coach Travis Mash.
I got an arm that's like one inch removed from my shoulder right now.
It's on its way back.
It's on its way back in.
We just got back from northwest Arkansas, home of Walmart.
And we got a big recap.
But yesterday, before we get into the big recap of our trip to Walmart
and the products that we're launching, the stores, the areas, the locations, and all the people that we are talking to to make this thing as cool as possible.
We had some pretty big news come out of IWF, International Weightlifting Federation, yesterday with Phil Andrews and Ursula got fired.
Did they get fired?
Is that what it is?
They just get ousted.
Is it like dirty politics?
It's dirty politics.
They got booted from the executive board.
She was the interim president of the IWF,
and I can't remember what Phil's position was.
He was obviously, based on the way he's handled USA Weightlifting,
which is amazing.
When I think about Phil,
I think of some guy that just loves weightlifting so much
that he worked his way all the way to the top of it.
I don't think he loves weightlifting.
I think he's just really good.
Like, he's not even a weightlifter, really.
He just – now, talking to him, you would think he grew up loving it
because he knows everything about it.
Yeah.
I think the guy's just really good at running governing bodies.
Yeah, I feel like politics behind his back just came back and crushed him,
and that's just not his world.
All he's done, actually, I think politics is exactly his world.
I think it's not over yet.
I think these people have made a big mistake,
and I think he's really good at maneuvering.
I think they knew it was coming.
Ursula knew this was coming.
Yeah.
I think – I'm hoping.
I just – I guess I'm going to be overly optimistic.
So what's the rationale again for why this happened in the first place?
Yeah.
Well, you know, they had hired Ursula, you know,
after they ousted that dude, the Thomas Ion or whatever,
and who is, you know, they made the –
Germany made the big documentary about how, you know, corrupt he is.
So they ousted him, and they bring in Ursula to, like, clean the sport up.
That was their goal.
But here's what I've heard is that that they brought ursula on like they
thought that you know she's a female that she won't do anything really so they thought she was
just going to be like this figurehead that they could continue doing what they do and that she
would kind of like protect them or shield them and then when they found out no ursula is an american
woman who doesn't mess around like they didn't know how to handle it because she's like no we're
going to implement all these things.
We're going to clean the sport up.
And so these countries who have, you know, historically been dirty,
you know, we've heard for years, oh, Russia this and Bulgaria that,
and like all the coaches in America have known, no,
you're not really that good in all the good coaches.
You know, you're just taking drugs and we're not.
That doesn't make you good.
That's cheating. So anyway, these countries who have relied on that um they they had this secret
meeting and they asked her and feel but what they did didn't do is they left piros on the board so
like i guess assuming they could sway piros but they didn't and so um you know they're still now
they're going to like go after you know the
countries who are like kind of in the middle you know and um if they get those countries
then this whole coup will be handled and i'm hoping that these countries get kicked out for
good obviously they're not going to get it you know thailand russia they're not going to get it
they're it's ingrained in their culture and so if you're going to you know if you're going to
change that you got to basically either fire everyone or just get rid of the country.
Is the Olympics even a big deal to them, or do they just only care about creating freaks, like the strongest people that have ever walked on the earth?
I think Russia does.
I didn't hear their name mentioned.
I'm just throwing them out because we know they're historically dirty.
But Thailand, probably not they just know that they're you know they they're good at
this one sport weightlifting because you know they can take drugs and they're mobile and so um
you know i mean like great overhead i mean yeah i've lived with this for so long about
how awesome these other coaches are in
these other countries.
And now that we've said,
obviously you're not.
And now here we are in a very short time.
Yeah.
People like Phil and Ursula here,
America's at the top of the sport.
And now they're like,
wait,
now they're proving that we're not very good.
So now we got to,
you know,
we got to make sure we can take our drugs,
but we got to make sure they can't.
So we look cool.
That's really all it is.
That's how sorry they are.
I hope they're listening.
I'll probably get shot because of this.
Well, that's what I don't understand.
They would rather the sport just die.
I mean, without the Olympics, I feel like dying at the Olympics like the equal and opposite effect of what has happened
over the last 15 years in weightlifting. It's like we have this one big event every four years.
Plus we've got the world championships, which people actually pay attention to.
Yeah. If anybody has been around weightlifting long enough to remember when they did the
national championships in a bowling alley yeah like it was like it was
like a ymca sign in the background it was like this is brought to you by some dude's car shop
down the street it was terrible awful and now they pack out these giant hotels it's in reno
they're like it's crazy anaheim was awesome like two ago, three years ago when we went.
Now they're in this place where it's like if you don't have the Olympics,
no one's going to care.
No one's going to care, man. It's going to be like powerlifting.
The IOC
has already told
weightlifting that this is the last chance.
It's done.
Yeah, and they're trying
to make sure it is done I'm like you
know really is your egos that valuable that you would rather lose the Olympics
just like true you know to not prove to continue pretending that you're better
you're not and it's okay like it's okay that you're not that good I don't ruin
the sport for you know the generations to come.
You know, I have at least four or five future Olympic hopefuls for 2024
that you're absolutely ruining, you know, their life.
Like, you know, Ryan literally changed where he's going to school
so he could go to Lenore Ryan so he could, you know, be with me,
continue working for the Olympics.
Or he was going to go to High Point University,
which is a lot shinier and prettier university.
But he came to the North Rhine because he knows that we can, you know,
do something special.
And these dudes are ruining that for this young man.
And, like, it's not even about me.
So what?
I'm old.
I'm a coach.
It's about these young kids who have, like,
focused now for years on this one deal, and they're ruining it.
Yeah, I feel like weightlifting as a whole, I mean, you take kind of this CrossFit movement where
you have hundreds of thousands, if not millions of parents that are introducing weightlifting
to their kids when they're like, yeah, like nine, 10 years old, not been doing CrossFit
for a decade, or they've been in shape and moving barbells in the garages for a decade
and moving them well and now all of a sudden those kids are you know 18 19 years old and they're just going
to start getting strong and the sport's going to have this like new even more of a filtered
group of people or a larger pool of people coming into it and this whole thing just like it ruins crushes it because it's just so obvious how
dirty the sport is as a whole and to put somebody in charge that is
from a banned country is insane yeah man i would love to have been there to be like no wait
what is your rationale here like you know like this, like this is a, can you imagine?
I would, you know,
can't imagine what an awesome documentary would make if you interviewed those
countries. And it's like, no, explain this. How does this make any sense?
You really think the ISC is going to be cool with this?
Like, or you just don't give a damn.
It's so interesting.
It was a sad day yesterday, man.
I feel like they need to come
out with like the the fifa documentary i mean that germany i couldn't really i shouldn't say i
couldn't watch it it had subtitles but it was just like it was kind of tough to watch um so i didn't
make it through the whole thing um it was on youtube i believe yeah do you remember the name
of it i can't remember but it was they were talking about it and all this stuff everyone out
yeah they're dirty that we've all and we talking about it and all this stuff. It called everyone out. Yeah.
They're dirty.
And we've known it.
And, like, you know, American coaches have told people,
and they're like, oh, you're just whining because you're not winning.
And you're like, oh, my God.
You know, like, no.
No, I'm not.
Yeah.
And now, you know, we've proved it. Now we got, you know, we're meddling at every international event,
whether it's the senior, junior, youth worlds, and we're meddling at every international event, whether it's the senior, junior, youth worlds,
and we're meddling at every one of them.
And so now they're going to ruin it for all of us.
I'm like, man, they're gone.
But anyway.
It might be even better for the sport if somehow this thing comes out
and Phil gets back in, Ursula gets back in,
however they handle it of getting somebody in from a clean country, and then the IOC actually sees that, no, people actually really do care.
I hope so.
Well, you know, we still have to – the cool – here get someone like Ursula, you know, to be the,
you know, the president, like not interim, but really the president, then they can't do stuff
like this. You can't just like have a secret meeting. You know, the meeting was illegal too,
by the way. Like, so like, there's a lot of things on our side, but like, but you know,
we have to handle it and we got to hope that it works, but like the meeting shouldn't even count.
And it, you know know it won't yet unless
they like do some other things i don't know it's like it's crazy like yeah anyway well
all that crazy negativity aside we've got the world to go change yeah yeah that that trip last
week was so much fun first off we all haven't been in the same room in so long from this damn pandemic thing going on.
Crap.
Now we're back-ish when we can.
We got to go on a road again.
I was in an airplane getting ready to go see my boys.
I was so excited.
It was great.
We even brought Colton.
Podcasting in person.
So much cooler.
So much more fun than on Zoom.
You're in person hanging out all day.
You get to lift weights together.
You get to go to meals together.
Like, that's half the fun of doing shows is just, like,
being able to hang out with the people all day long.
We had a great trip there.
We trained the whole time.
Like, I came back feeling like I was in better shape than when I left.
It was great.
Randy had everybody doing rack pulls with no warm-up.
That was nuts. I haven't pulled 405 pounds anywhere in no i think the last time i pulled
405 dog was when we were in california it was me and you on the hex bar or something like that
i like specifically remember going i don't know if i want to do that anymore that was
what'd you pull the one ton challengeton challenge at Fit Ops in February?
I didn't do the deadlift part.
I let you deadlift and I do the Olympic lifting.
You didn't do the deadlift?
No.
The one-ton challenge,
the team version.
The last time I actually...
It's actually a good idea.
I pulled the heaviest deadlift.
It was the first time
that it was at CrossFit Surmount when they did the one
ton challenge and I was emceeing it and I just jumped in to be a part of it.
And the,
it was the first time I ever squatted and deadlifted the same amount in the
same day.
Three 75.
Nice.
Four Oh five at the end.
As I got to,
or I got to three75 in like three lifts.
And I was like, I don't think 405 is a good idea right now.
I just walked it out.
I was like, I'm good.
Yeah.
I'm already at like 1850.
Another 20 pounds doesn't get me anywhere.
This is not worth it right now.
You know what I decided?
This is like you reminded me of something. Like how you said you did that in three attempts. You know what I decided? This is like, you reminded me of something,
like how you said you did that in three attempts.
You know, yesterday, this week is deload week, Eleanor Ryan.
And so I decided to, because I feel like the boys especially start just,
you know, jerking around when it's deload week
and there's like not a lot of goods happening.
I think I'm going to switch deloads forever.
And like, instead of like saying, hey, we're going to drop the percentage to 15%
or something crazy, I'm going to be like, you're going to work up to your daily max.
We only have 10 minutes to snatch, clean and jerk, and squat.
You get 10 minutes each, and then you're done.
And that's going to be the deload.
So I just got to look at the numbers and see if that will still be
about roughly the same volume.
I don't know.
Max for a day on like two lifts and then go home?
Yeah, just get them out of there because they're just, like, messing around.
Steelers, 18-year-old boys just cannot.
Damn.
When the weight room turns into the locker room, that's not.
It did.
It was like I was about to kill them.
Like Matt Weingart, who's been with me for a decade,
like I thought I was gonna like punch his
face like i'm kidding don't you have homework to do get out of here oh lord and as for all the
people that saw on instagram you fall on a bike over a cliff uh you want to give everybody an
update are you oh no are you laid up for for a couple months what's up with your shoulder
i did a show with armin hammer yesterday talking about the walmart uh thing i've been on the i feel
like a rapper right now launching my very first single where i'm just like i'm on everyone's show
i'm reaching out i'm doing it i've been on i was on four shows last week i'm on four this week i got three to do today
um and i was talking to armin who's like old crossfitter used to run the wadcast podcast
i love him yeah he's awesome and dude it's so funny because we we've like lived the same life
for so long but in our own directions and as soon we got on, it was just like hilarity of CrossFit jokes.
He saw the sling and he was like,
what did you do?
So I told the story.
I was basically, we all went mountain biking.
So Northwest Arkansas is only really known for two things.
One of them is Walmart.
That's the big one.
And then because Walmart exists,
they have to have some recreation. But mountain biking is like, if you live in SoCal, you go
surfing. If you live in the mountains, you go hiking or rock climbing. If you live in Colorado,
you go skiing. If you live in Northwest Arkansas, you go mountain biking. And Walmart and all of
the bodies that have a lot of money in Northwest Arkansas have spent a million dollars per mile to build out.
And I had no idea what mountain biking even was.
I thought we were going to go through some trails
along some big scenic things.
And we got out there, and it's basically like a giant skateboard park.
It's awesome.
Like everywhere.
And they've got little turns built in and trails built in it's super
cool um i would say it's never jay street's gym too by the way and jay street's gym where we got
huge um and we had we got through like 90 minutes everyone was cool we lost lost Travis for a little bit. We found Travis on purpose. Yeah.
And then we went to the top of this.
It wasn't even that steep.
It wasn't anything.
It was,
but it was at the top of the park.
That was the problem.
And we were joking around. Cause the two kids that went in front of us went off.
Doug was,
they did these like giant jumps and we're like catching all this air and doug looks at me and he's making jokes he's like
you should do that tail whip thing like kick your leg out kick your leg out throw your arm off
and i was he did all that all right i wasn't even trying to be cool in the slightest this is the
part that uh typically when i jack up, it's because I'm trying
to be cool and it just goes too far.
I was just trying to go over the hill
but this time went over the hill
and instead of going over the round hill,
I went over the jump hill
because I wanted to see what the jump
felt like. So instead of going
slightly left, I went slightly right and it
made all the difference in the world.
That's like the two forks in a road except this fork in the road led me into a freaking hospital.
Into hell.
And when I went over the jump, the lip popped my back tire up. So then I was on top of the
tabletop going over the bottom, the down portion, and I'm just on one tire. And what's sad is that
when I watched the video, it felt like I was like going down a million miles an hour.
But when I watched the video,
my back tire's off the ground like an inch.
Like it is not,
all I had to do was like sit my ass down
and not freak out.
But instead, because I'm such an amateur,
first timer, I hit the brakes.
Well, when you hit the front brake, your body's going forward.
And my body went forward like eight foot down a fucking cliff.
And I put 195 pounds straight on my left shoulder.
And somehow, Doug just made the cringe cringe face and he was there and watched
it um oh no that's on the video oh no um that was the best part of the video i was like oh no
and uh man i tumbled really really hard and became uh i stretched i sprained my ac joint really bad so basically where the ball and
socket goes into your clavicle take that and just rip it out of there about three inches that's what
happened to my shoulder and uh but nothing tore the doctor this is not a true story but this is
what i know the doctor wanted to tell me anders you're so
jacked that even falling eight foot out of the sky and landing straight on your shoulder isn't enough
to rip all the muscles and tendons inside your shoulder the doctor wanted to tell you that you
could survive a plane crash that's what he wanted to say he's like skydiving it would have been the same result because you're
so strong you don't need to shoot you don't need to shoot um no so it's just a nasty sprain i mean
when i landed i immediately jumped up and went oh no i broke my collarbone this sucks and i came
back doug felt around and he was like no nope not a collarbone and then we were like it's 100% separated shoulder
like you definitely snapped
some sort of tendon in there and your
arm is just hanging because there was like
a legit L like you could stick
your finger in
my clavicle it was gross
and
dude I'm
we're recording this 8 days
or 7 days, basically,
after it happened because it happened 24 hours last night.
Yeah, yesterday I have all of the range of motion.
It's just super tender still.
Like I think I bruised the bone a little bit.
Like it's just – it's more tender to the touch.
I'm doing tons of, you know,
what's cool is that we have that boulders for shoulders program that I'm
just kind of like loosely following.
Boulders for shoulders.
Which is like all the mobility rehab.
I don't really need mobility.
I got plenty of mobility in there right now, but.
You don't need any mobility.
But I've been doing just tons of banded face pulls with a really light band,
tons of banded pull aparts,
just making sure that when the shoulder like pulls itself back and this was the
really gross part when we were on the way to the hospital,
I felt my shoulder tightening back up and coming back into the socket.
So like that big three inch gap that
was between my the the joint and clavicle like started to like come back together and i said to
matt who was driving me i was like dude i don't think i'm jacked up at all i think i just shredded
the tissues in there but it's that gap is like closing as i'm talking to you and he was
like well that's gross and then i looked over at his beautiful truck and i was bleeding all over it
yeah disgusting that was the gross part so in this whole thing i'm okay with my shoulder being
jacked up like i earned that one this elbow that is on the opposite arm, the elbow is
like my, that's like my, that's like a leg to me getting around when you can't move your other arm.
But because there's a hole in this elbow, I can't pivot on it. It's so painful to put pressure on
that hole that went into my arm and that has been like the most
annoying thing because i i constantly like trying to like wheel myself around in bed and then i i
land right on that elbow and it just boom crushes me um because that has not healed really uh that
much at all like that bone got really jacked up too. There's no tissue attached to it.
I'm going to be amazed if you come
through that without any kind of tear.
Even a small one. I will be amazed.
Last night, we were outside.
It was gorgeous out.
I hope it's not the last day like that.
Seeing as it's
probably 50 degrees in my garage
right now.
We laid the gymnastics mats out in the front yard and I laid down and like when you,
if you lay on your back, your shoulder feels a lot safer. It's just not fighting gravity. It doesn't really need the musculature. So you can like see actual ranges of motion.
So I was able to go overhead pain-free. Like as soon as I set my
scap in a really good place, I could go overhead perfectly, get my thumb all the way to touch the
ground and my bicep to my ear. Awesome. Then I did like a big half moon all the way.
Came back to a 90-90 internal rotation. Awesome and then um the only thing that really sucks
right now is like moving my arm all the way across my body i just don't have any it's so
loose in there that anytime my shoulder like internally rotates without that safety of having
the ground to protect uh my shoulder blade um it just hits a bunch of tissues and nerves in there
and that's the the final thing and then like front delt is just fucking gross right now.
But,
um,
what do you mean gross hurts or like,
yeah,
it's just like,
it's just,
um,
what I was talking about,
actually,
this is such as like a nine minute long joke.
Um,
when I was talking to arm and he asked how it felt and I said,
well,
it kind of feels like I just did an ascending ladder Fran twice for the CrossFit Open and did 300 chest pull-ups in a week.
It's just kind of how it feels.
It's just like janky, beat-up, gross tissues.
I think also that clavicle bone, I can like feel exactly where the impact happened.
And because it's just – the actual bone is really tender.
But dude, I don't know.
We went out to dinner.
We had some beautiful wine.
We had a great time.
It was awesome.
How cool was it going to like the Walmart?
Not like your Walmart that you go to at home, but like the Walmart,
the one that they bring people to, to say, this is Walmart.
This is where all the ballers hang out.
This is where we're going to go.
This is where the Walmart is going in the future.
It was cool.
Yes.
I couldn't believe when we walked in there,
they had like I had never walked into a Walmart where they had like Whole Foods lights.
It was like so bright.
It felt like I was in like a greenhouse trying to maneuver my way around
the jillion items that they have on the shelves there.
And their clinic with Ivy League doctors.
That was like –
Right?
Yeah.
That was like the real reason we went there.
If anyone listening hasn't heard of Walmartmart health that's coming out right now it's they've launched it in
a small handful of locations but they're trying to put they're not the trying they're putting
doctors and uh probably physical therapists and trainers and nutritionists like they're trying to
put all these things into walmart uh that way's just, it's, it's so much,
it's more accessible to especially kind of more like rural communities and
whatnot where they can get good,
good medical care.
And,
and like our buddy Randy,
who's like a real bodybuilder,
he was like a,
you know,
a top middleweight bodybuilder in the world.
He's, he's at that
walmart and he sits there and we'll consult with people that that want training programs
and need nutrition advice and all that and like that's just he's just hanging out in walmart
basically maximizing their health you know like okay you got this down that's we're going to
nutrition we got nutrition down so we're gonna sleep like he's maximizing the people that need
it like you know like people there's certain people that they don't need
someone like that.
Like, you know, like, I don't need that.
I'm going to read about it.
I'm going to figure it out.
There's a group of people that work their butts off.
You know, they work blue-collar jobs.
They come home to their family.
They're trying to be good moms and dads.
They just don't have the time, you know, to, like, invest in studying, like,
about fitness to figure out what's best for them. So they see some commercial, and they end up doing what some, you know, to like invest in studying like about fitness to figure out what's best for
them. So they see some commercial and they end up doing what some, you know, idiot is telling them
to do. But now, you know, like because of this movement, you know, people like Randy are going
to actually, you know, help the people who need it. You know, people who are working their butts
off trying to raise their family and now they're going to be able to be healthier, live longer
lives and more active lives so they can play with their kids longer it's man i think it's like when i discovered that that's
when i was like i'm all in now like i was all excited because you know obviously i want a
company to grow to be the biggest company in the world but like when i saw that i'm like oh i'm all
in like for multiple reasons now i want to help these people that need it because that's where
i come from you know yeah i've been talking about this a lot when people reach out or they're just super interested in kind of
like how this all happened and uh i think doug you were talking about on the show that we did
that's probably came out right before this show or will be coming out on wednesday um but we
when you're the ceo of walmart or like the ceo of your store you didn't get to that position
by being out of shape eating poorly not having good thoughts in your brain you worked really
hard to get to a position in which you're in charge of if you're in charge of a store probably like what a billion dollars of revenue each year something like insane and
you don't get there by not training intelligently taking care of your body eating well making good
decisions and then you walk into your store and the person that you are as the ceo of that store
whatever that person is called like that store doesn't reflect your values. And it's a really
big jump sometimes when you walk into Walmart. And I think that that was by walking into the
store that we did and going to the clinic and the fact that they're investing all this money into
this, this idea of the Walmart clinic. And I mean, and bringing training programs in like having a
better conversation about just health and wellness.
I think that that whole culture of Walmart, people are going to see a massive change.
Because just walking in, it was so wildly different than any Walmart experience I feel like I've ever had.
Yeah.
Friends, we're going to take a quick break.
I got to tell you about my friends over at Bioptimizers. Do you know that magnesium deficiency could be one of the greatest health conspiracies in history?
That's right.
Health conspiracies in history.
First, let's be clear.
Magnesium is the single most studied mineral in existence.
It powers over 600 critical reactions in our body.
To date, thousands of studies have proven it to be beneficial for
the heart, energy, metabolism, immunity, sleep, pain, and more. It's pretty much everything.
The only two-time Nobel Prize winner, Linus Pauling, love to have him on the Shrugged show,
recommended daily supplementation of magnesium, at least 350 milligrams per day.
So do over 100,000 courageous doctors, including the top MDs from
Harvard. But there's a problem. Most magnesium supplements fail because they are synthetic and
not full spectrum. When you actually get all seven critical forms of magnesium, pretty much every
function in your body gets upgraded from your brain to your sleep, pain and inflammation,
and less stress. That's why Magnesium Breakthrough is different
because it combines all seven essential forms of magnesium
into one convenient supplement.
With this one simple action,
you can reverse magnesium deficiency in all its forms.
And right now, during the entire month of November,
the makers of Magnesium Breakthrough from Bioptimizers
are running their Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale
until November 30th. This is the best time of the
year for incredible deals. Only select products you can get free shipping up to 40% off and they
are even giving away free bottles of Masszymes, P3OM, and their HCL Breakthrough with select
orders. You won't find this deal anywhere else, not even on their website,
and it's only through the link in the show notes or at buyoptimizers.com forward slash shrugged
and use the coupon code shrugged. For fastest shipping access to free products until November
30th, go to buyoptimizers.com forward slash shrugged. That is where you are going to save
up to 40% and they're giving away
free bottles of Masszymes, which is my favorite product. P3OM, which is the gut health and the
HCL breakthrough is also the gut health pill. Bioptimizers, B-I-O-P-T-I-M-I-Z-E-R-S.com forward
slash shrugged. I also want to thank our friends at Organifi for the green, the red, and the gold.
They're my lifesaver.
I already went through all of my pumpkin spice, people.
We didn't even really get the leaves off the trees before I already smashed all the pumpkin spice that they sent me.
I don't even know what to do now.
I'm back to the green and the red and the gold.
The green still crushes every morning.
It's like number one.
Do you hear the depression right now without having the pumpkin spice? I'm getting more scent though. Don't worry. Yo, here's the deal.
We're launching in Walmart. Do you want to know what that means to my nutrition right now? It
means it's not that great because it's crazy. I'm gonna write a whole book on how to get
barbell shrugged into Walmart one day. It's craziness. But we're working really hard.
That means my stress is a little high. That's why I got to get some more ashwagandha in my life.
That's in the green drink, which you should get. I take the green in the morning. I'm not eating
the salads. Everything's just a little off right now because we're working so hard to get this
thing finalized and in the stores and on the shelves and in the hands. So check it out.
Organifi saving my life as always, because vitamins and minerals are not top of mind right now.
However, I can go into my kitchen right now,
which I'm probably going to do as soon as I'm done recording this.
I'm going to take a little bit of water.
I'm going to put two scoops of the green in.
Bam. Now I've just got
my daily dose of vitamins and minerals. I don't have to worry about anything. That's why it's so,
so important for you to get over to Organifi.com forward slash shrug. Save the 20%. You're going
to get a critical deal. You're going to get all the micronutrients you need to feel healthy,
love your body, and the green, go for it. If they still got the pumpkin spice, which I'm
almost positive they're sold out. If they're not, I better get a lot of it. Organifi.com forward
slash shrugged. And then also our friends over at fit together, F I T T O G E T H E R. We are
wrapping up this week. You only have one week left to get in to the body weight challenge in which you can win $600 in cash prizes. Also,
we're giving away $600 in programs. That's a crucial deal because 600 plus 600 equals 1200.
That's four digits worth of goodness. And trust me, the coolest part over there right now is that
we just dominate like barbell shrug straight up dominates the fit together app. There's we have
the biggest group, there's other groups, but they're not cool like us.
There's a lot of other people that show up from a lot of other countries.
But guess what?
Barbell Shrugged smashes the Fit Together app.
So that's where we're having like real legit, all the listeners are getting together.
If you are interested in meeting all of the other Shrugged people, Fit Together is the
best place to do it.
It's F-I-T-T-O-G-E-T-H-E-R.
Fit Together at the app store on all of your devices,
on all of the companies that make cell phones.
And I don't even know much about cell phones.
But wherever you download things, just look for Fit Together.
F-I-T-T-O-G-E-T-H-E-R.
Fit Together.
Go in there.
Find me.
Find the Barbell Sherp Group.
Come rage with all your friends.
100%.
It definitely gives me hope that when a company like Walmart starts this movement towards health,
I have hope now that – it doesn't mean everyone in the world will be healthy,
but I feel like now we'll actually make an impact on the world, on this epidemic epidemic that we're seeing that's that's the pandemic we need to worry about in my opinion
if you look at the number of deaths and the number of like diseases caused by obesity that's this is
a good thing yeah so i was talking to we had a pharmacist reach out through mash's instagram as
soon as we announced the partnership with them and with walmart and he's a pharmacist so our our products the three programs the fat loss uh cardio program
and the um muscle gain basically strength program uh are going to be in the pharmacy section that's
where all the supplements that's where all the pre-workouts and amino acids that all that whole
genre of products.
We will be sitting on the shelves with them, which is in the pharmacy section.
And talking to the pharmacist today or yesterday,
and he was basically saying like there's no options.
But since Matt Musgrave has gotten into his position as being like the head guy of performance
nutrition he said the shelves have like radically shifted he goes it's been noticeable to all of
the pharmacists that all of the products that we hated are slowly made their way out and all the
products that are coming in are like very reputable companies. And the people that he's bringing in and the quality of the products that he's bringing
in, he said, it's been like a noticeable change. And just him shifting, obviously, one person can't
shift the entire culture of Walmart, but in his section, which he has the most control over,
it's been a radical shift for them. And he's like proud to be a pharmacist and have that,
those products to be able to point people to.
Yeah, I think most pharmacists like, I can't remember her name.
I coached, oh, Sandra, it doesn't matter.
It's pointless.
But like she's a pharmacist and her whole goal was to steer people,
you know, away from like pharmaceutical drugs. And like, she wanted to be able to get her, you know,
clients or patients. I don't know what pharmacist calls the person who comes to the store, but
she wanted to steer them away from all these, you know, opioids, you know, all these drugs that are
killing people and she wanted to get them healthy. So I think she would definitely be one, you know,
if she were in a Walmart that I know would rather, much rather say,
hey, go check out this Barbell Shrug workout card.
That's going to give you long-term health and happiness and wellness.
So I think a lot of them are like that.
Which is cool.
So for everybody that just kind of, for everybody that's listening
that may not know the exact programs and where they can find them, We are launching, which is actually, we got the official date, the second Monday of
November. We're slated to be on the shelves on the first week, but we've been advised that it's
much smarter to go the second week after all the chaos of switching things out. So the second Monday of November, Palm Springs in Chula Vista, San Diego County.
There's one in Orange County, LA, and then we're all over in Vegas.
So if you are in Vegas, Palm Springs, San Diego, or LA. Just get to your local Walmart. We'll have infographics
and stuff up. But the three main programs and how everything works, we have a fat loss program,
which requires no equipment, just very basic strength training plus cardio conditioning.
There's a conditioning program specific. So people just want to be on a good running program or bike
or just walking program, depending upon kind of like where they're at in their fitness journey.
And then there's a muscle gain strength program with our beautiful videographer model,
Colton Duncan, looking all shredded. And what you do is you walk into the Walmart,
you go to the pharmacy section, find the proteins. Right next to that, there will be a stack of cards.
You find your goal-specific program.
You pull the card off the shelf.
You walk up to pay for it.
It will print on your receipt a unique serial code in which you will then go to the website that we have on the back of the cards.
I think it's like strength-muscle.com. You punch in the serial number and it will immediately kick you a 50-page e-book. Inside each e-book,
there is a 30-day program, which is a six-week training program for your goal specific to
everything you need. You can literally take that 50 pages and do it over and over and over again.
You will have a legit training program
from an exercise scientist that's mr doug larson over here who wrote the programs and bringing just
real strength training real programming real progressions to people that awesome may or may
not have ever had a legitimate coach that knows what they're doing ever in their lives. On top of that, you're going
to get a full understanding of the basics of nutrition from what are macronutrients to how
to find the proper caloric balance for yourself, how to adjust that caloric balance to lose weight,
gain muscle, or just maintain where you're at to live a longer, stronger, healthier life. And on top of that, if it gets even more confusing on how do you go about
meeting those macronutrients and those caloric goals, there's a grocery list in there in which
you can take that grocery list from your email immediately after you pay, go to the grocery
section, and then you will be able to walk through and find the exact items, the exact amounts, go home and make the meals that
we've given you the recipe for in the book. And once you're done with that, then we will also
teach you how to do meal prep so that for the rest of the week, you do not have to worry about
how you are going to get through the week when your life immediately gets crazy, when your kids
start waking up and you got to school and you got to work and then you got to get home and everything
about life happens. And the raddest part of all, because we get to deliver this through an ebook,
is that you get to do all of this. You get literally 30 days, six weeks of everything
you could ever imagine to want to know about the basics of strength, conditioning, nutrition,
and how to make a proper meal for $9.48, which is
absolute insanity that people are going to be able to do that for under $10.
This is a huge shift. Do you understand that you guys are a little bit younger than me,
and we were talking about it earlier, but do you understand the shift that you're trying to cause?
I've grown up with the fitness industry absolutely lying to the general
population like the shaker weight or the little the thigh master and all this gimmicky stuff that
you know as i've grown up i've realized this is their line and doesn't work and i you know i'll
go see my mom and i'll see she has like one of these products and i'm like oh my god my own
mother is buying this stuff right it's shift your the shift that we're trying to cause is such a good shift.
It's so wholesome from a world filled with lies,
from these snake salesmen, snake oil salesmen,
to actually getting science to the people who need it the most.
I pray more than anything this works for the people from where I'm from, the small need it the most. This is not just praying. I pray more than anything. This works for the people like from where I'm from,
like the small towns around the world growing up where,
you know,
obesity and cancer is rampant because of not because of genetics,
but because of lifestyle.
So like,
this is exciting.
I feel like we're also embarking on this like incredibly cool part of life.
Man, I'm literally in the middle of reading The Alchemist right now.
I posted this on Instagram before.
My neighborhood, it's like 150 pages.
You'll read it in two days.
And it's such a good story.
It's so simple, so easy to comprehend,
but there's all these like gym nuggets in there
that you just take with your life.
But the library, the bookshare that my, my neighborhood has, I opened it the
day before we were leaving to Walmart. And, um, at the very bottom by itself was the alchemist,
as if it was like, right. It was the omen, which they talk about in the book all the time,
telling me to pick the book up as we were about to head down to Walmart and go on this big pilgrimage to think. But it talks about,
first off, it's a fiction book that it's just also the way you should live your life.
But when you open the door and you jump into the river, you have no idea
where you're going to go, where that river is going to take you. And as I think about what I have done with my career
and what we've all done with our career has been,
how do we get somebody that's incredibly strong
or like already very focused on being strong
to add 10 more pounds to their deadlift
and give them all the education that they possibly could have to add 10 pounds. And I think there's like crazy amount
of value in that because we're, we're empowering people with education. We're, we're inspiring them
to take action. We're, we're making it fun. So they get to listen multiple times a week.
And we're, we're like laying out this library of strength and conditioning, but also what we're
not doing when we're teaching somebody how
to add 10 pounds to their deadlift is teaching the person that's got three kids at home that's
40 pounds overweight. Their doctor tells them they're pre-diabetic and giving them the tools
to just take step one. And I think that what we're providing in this like 50 page book to people is not just step one, but it's like
step one through 10. And like, if they just follow along and if they just actually understand the
concepts that we're laying out, because the more, the further I get away from trying to PR my
deadlift by 10 pounds, the more that I find that I just follow what's in this guideline for
the book. And one day we're going to walk into Walmart and there's going to be somebody there.
And we're building the systems out to be able to meet these people of following the transformations,
following how people are going to be going through the program on a weekly basis, checking in with
them. But we're going to walk in one day.
And just like when you walk into a strength conference or you walk into the training hall
and Travis Bash has got all of his big lifters
and there's people saying,
thank you so much.
You changed the way I lift.
And people have listened to the show
and they want to take pictures and it's incredible.
I love all that stuff.
But we're going to walk in
and there's going to be somebody there.
And they're going to meet us and go, you saved my life. Yeah. I know. Wildly different than any feeling I've ever had about strength and conditioning. Like you legitimately saved my life.
You, you allowed me to be a dad for a much longer time. You allowed me to be a mom in a healthier
way for a much longer time. You allowed my family to live a stronger, healthier life for a very long time. That's wild to me.
That's amazing. Yeah. That's what I'm excited about is that very thing. I love helping athletes.
It's nothing better than seeing one of my dudes win, but, you know, helping the general population
to get healthy. I've been wanting to do that forever.
I just didn't know how I would ever, you know, break into that, you know,
market per se.
Like, you know, I've tried to do little things for general pop,
but like people don't follow me for that.
You know, they follow me for being strong.
This is the first chance I've ever had to actually do, you know,
I want to help my mom and my, you know, you know,
I wish I could have helped my dad before he died and my aunts and my uncles that are in the mountains,
and people dropping off like flies from cancer and from obesity.
This is exciting.
I really feel like all of the people that are shopping in that section too,
nobody walks into Performance Nutrition and isn't thinking about their health.
Nobody walks up to the pharmacy counter and isn't thinking about their health. Nobody walks up to the pharmacy counter and isn't thinking about their health.
So our focus really is just like
we have to educate them on what actual health is
and how do we do that.
And next week, it'll probably be in the past now,
but next week through Instagram,
I met that pharmacist that runs the shop in Robert.
He used to coach his daughter.
He runs the Walmart in Greensboro, that pharmacy.
He's already talked to his regional manager who's got 14 stores
that has already set up a conference call with Matt
to be the next set of stores that we'll be opening in. Um, I don't know exactly how that works, but, um,
they're, they're already pushing to be the next set of stores. Um,
and then on top of that,
I am getting into their weekly call next week to be able to like,
just explain what these programs are and how to talk to clients about taking
the first step. Because I also think one of the coolest parts about this show is that we get to have these like MDs on,
like we get to have Spencer Nadolsky who deals with obesity. And I would have never thought
about talking to somebody with OB or that's a MD that had like, has all the research done in obesity
on the show would have been valuable.
And now I'm like, oh, wow, that's perfectly aligned with this whole thing.
And realizing that there is a way to bridge that gap that nobody wants to be unhealthy.
Nobody wants to feel like crap. Nobody wants to be living on meds. Nobody wants
to be sitting there at the pharmacist going, can you fill this up for me? That'd be awesome. I need
to go feel good. Most people aren't like, yes, there are some, but most people don't want to do
that. But they don't have the tools. They don't have the resources resources they don't have kind of like a support system and a community that allows change to happen and one thing uh when we were talking to john
berardi that was like super powerful in that
i asked him i was like what do you do when your clients don't get any results
or they haven't changed much they haven't had this big transformation he was like, what do you do when your clients don't get any results or they haven't changed much?
They haven't had this big transformation. He was like, dude, what if you're the only person
in that ecosystem of, what if the coach is the only person in that client's ecosystem that's
a positive role model in their life? They may not be dropping 20, 30, 40 pounds and being some
Instagram transformational story, but what if you're, you're the only person that can call that's providing a positive influence to
them,
teaching them a positive way to go about life so that if they were to break
out of it,
they have this resource to be able to move forward and make better habits.
Awesome.
And that person as well,
if you weren't there may actually have gained 20 pounds and your fact that
you're keeping them at
maintenance level might actually be a positive for that person yeah that's a super tough sell
yeah someone comes to you and says i'm not losing any weight but but that that could be happening
also especially if you are the only positive influence in that person's life yeah and i feel
like these these books that we've written um and because we're doing it through an e-book, which is really the delivery system for all strength conditioning almost now, is so powerful because we get to do it at a price point.
Every time I talk to somebody, especially the pharmacist yesterday, Robert, he was like, I don't know how you did this for under $10.
I was like, well, I don't know how we did it either, but we made it happen.
And the fact that we can, because it's the largest retail in the world,
build this thing and play the volume route where it's going to be cool.
I want people to look at it and it be a no-brainer
that they have to go put this in their cart
along with their protein.
The pharmacists feel good about it
because it's so cheap.
It's 80% off
of our normal selling price.
That's insane.
I just need you guys to buy it.
Yeah.
It only makes sense if we can scale to many,
many,
many more stores.
Yeah.
There's no way we're making any money on our initial 12 or 20 or just
testing it out.
Like until like we're,
this is a super cheap price point and we have a physical component to it.
Normally we have more expensive products that are all digital.
So it's like super high profit once you build the websites and all that but
we have like displays and cars that you have to look at we have to print and there's cost
good sold here plus all kinds of other expenses where we're not really making a whole lot of money
on each individual card we won't make any actual money until we're in a thousand two thousand four
thousand stores so it's it's a bit of a gamble to have a price
point so low but we think if we get the price point super low we'll be able to help the most
people because it's that much more accessible and if that was that much more accessible then
walmart will scale us and we can actually potentially be profitable uh once once we're at
you know in 500 000 or more stores right yeah so we're taking we're taking a big risk here by putting something out
there for so fucking ridiculously cheap.
It's so cheap. It's basically
free. It's less than $10.
It's less than $10.
Every show
and everyone I've talked to, I've tried to
really make the point that
it's not just
us getting into Walmart and then people going
away like i i really want to rally the shrugged community that we've built um i even if you're
not buying the programs for yourself like go buy one or two of them it's it'll cost you 19 dollars
um to buy two programs and you can just change a lot just give them to somebody that wants them.
You're already buying training programs for $47 to $150 from us
on a somewhat regular basis.
The fact that we're really asking you to go to walmart.com
and search for the programs and we'll have all the links
and socials and emails and everything. Um, but go buy them for somebody, go buy one of each
of them. It will cost you $28 and 50 cents to have this thing emailed to you. If you buy three of
them, um, like I, we, we need the community, we need the strength community to understand the need to get these programs scaled out into many stores.
And we're working our asses off to get into the pharmacists.
We're building that network right now.
I feel like a rapper launching my first single for real.
I'm on every one show right now.
I've done, I want to say, seven or eight podcasts in the last two weeks.
Um,
you look like Eminem.
I'm working on it,
dude.
I'm working on it.
I bet you could bust a rhyme.
I got,
I hope that I hope that me explaining what the product and programs are
earlier sounded like it had some flow to it,
like a little iambic pentameter.
Yeah.
I found myself like you know kind
of bobbing my head grocery list yeah um so we need we we this isn't this isn't like uh us calling to
go get rich right now we need we need people to go out and um get this get some the groundswell
going because once we have the transformations as well, our, our goal, um, is, is to, to interview these people and build transformational stories and put
them in the book and get the faces of these programs to people so that we can, um, tell
their stories of, of how strength conditioning has changed the world. Yeah. Um, but we're going
to do it. We just, we need some help cause we can't go buy all the programs that we just wrote.
That doesn't make sense.
If I thought it would help, I would buy them.
But, yeah.
So if you get an early jump on stocking stuffers,
if you're buying Thanksgiving presents for people,
if you know people that are going to be wanting training in the new year,
you can get over to Walmart.com.
And if you're in the Palm Springs, LA, San Diego, Vegas area,
just pay attention to the socials and emails
because we'll have the exact stores that you can go to with their address.
You can reach out to me specifically.
If you have any questions on the programs on my Instagram,
email, whatever it is, just at Anders Varner.
But tell everyone, you know, this is not just important to our business and to where we
want to go in order to help people.
But I think it's really important work that we're able to do on a national level and help
a lot of people that have literally zero resources to do this. We're the
only people selling strength and conditioning on the shelves of Walmart. That means today,
as we speak, there is zero resources for these people to get strong and in shape. They have
nobody to teach them how to lift weights. They just have a bunch
of BS that they're going to watch on TV.
Some infomercial.
The shaker weight, that's what they have right now.
They got Chuck Norris selling
total body gym. Come on, Chuck.
Come on, Chuck. You know
total body isn't the way you do it.
What is it? Christy Brinkley? Is that who
his girl model is? Yeah.
Christy Brinkley is not doing bicep curls on the sliding roller bench.
No, not selling me on that, Chuck.
I don't want to fight you, but you're lying.
Yeah, you could choke me off for sure,
but if you want to get into a back squat battle, let's go.
Yeah, you can fight Doug.
I'll squat.
We'll do squats.
Yeah.
That's all I need.
All I need is Chuck Norris age 60 or however old he is now to come,
come beat me up.
That would be so awesome,
dude.
You might have to take it.
I got this.
That'd be awesome.
Oh my God.
Right in the face.
Like a leaping hook to the chin.
Where'd Doug go?
I saw that video of him fighting Chuck Norris on Instagram.
Where can people find you?
I go to
mashlead.com
but really
yeah
you know

Also, our friends at Bioptimizers, bioptimizers.com forward slash shrugged,
saving 40% on the magnesium product.
And they're giving away a bunch of free stuff on top of that for their Black Friday, Cyber Monday sale,
which is going on all month long. And then Organifi.com forward slash shrug to save 20% on the green, red and gold. You better not buy my pumpkin spice. Friends, we're going to
see on Wednesday, we've got the merchandising director from Walmart coming on the show to talk
about the culture of Walmart, everything that's changing in their organization and why they chose Barbell Shrug to be a part of the brand new, everything that's going on
at Walmart. So epic. We'll see you guys on Wednesday.
