Hey guys, this is CTP and you're listening to Barbell Shrugged.
For the video version of this podcast, check out Fitter.TV. You know Rich Froning. Screw interviewing Rich. We just want the friends of Rich.
Is that mine?
Yeah.
I have no idea.
So, your name?
Jacob.
Jacob.
Jacob what?
Johnson.
Jacob Johnson.
What is any notable accomplishments?
Notable?
I'm just part of the entourage, man.
I don't really have to do anything.
He was there.
So Rich has an entourage.
He was there the first.
He was there at sectionals the first time we met.
He didn't compete, but he was there.
It would be him and Darren.
I remember Darren.
Are we recording?
Yeah.
Okay, cool.
All right.
I'm Mike Bledsoe here with obviously Doug Larson.
Obviously. And Doug's here every time. And I'm here with Jacob Johnson and Rich Froning, Jr.
Junior, yeah. For some reason that's been added in the last few years.
Yeah, I'm a junior, but everybody kind of puts more emphasis on it all of a sudden.
I heard your dad is exactly like you.
My dad's exactly like me?
That's what Johnson told me.
The real Rich Froning.
He'll introduce himself.
Tell me all about your dad on the way over here.
He's a wild man.
Oh, really?
Actually, I had the pleasure of eating steak with your father in Colorado.
Oh, yeah, you did.
Yeah.
Yeah, he's a great guy.
Great guy.
He's something.
He seems really cool.
Yeah, he's a great guy.
So, all right.
So, Dan Bailey has moved in with you.
Yep.
Lives upstairs.
He lives upstairs.
Yeah.
And you live upstairs, too?
No, I live downstairs.
Me and Hillary live downstairs.
I was wondering what your wife might have thought about having to sleep on the couch.
I know.
Actually, when we get in fights, she's always like, you're going to go sleep in Dan's room.
And Dan's like, all right, we'll build a fort and we're going to paint on the walls.
It's always the joke.
Awesome.
Yeah.
All right, Dougie.
What? So Rich has a, no rich so rich has an entourage oh yeah no here we go let's move up to the microphone yeah or pull the microphone to you
that's fine either way there you go yeah welcome to the party so you're part of rich's entourage
i'd like to think so is it like that tv? Actually, we were just talking about that earlier.
You mentioned that last night.
I've never watched it.
Yeah, see, he didn't get the reference, so it just didn't click.
So you all live in a big house together?
No.
It'd be nice.
We haven't invited him in yet.
I kind of threw it out there.
He'd really pick it up.
Hey, Rich, you buy a big house?
I'm just hoping Reebok will get Rich a house one of these days and you can move in.
Oh, yes. And kick Dan out. And, you buy a big house. I'm just hoping Reebok will get Rich a house one of these days and you can move in. Oh, yes.
And kick Dan out.
And then you'll be number one.
That's why I've been training.
Training to dethrone Dan.
Oh, man.
So training with Dan, that's obviously –
has it upped your game at all or do you feel like –
Yeah, it's been good.
It's been good for both of us.
He's obviously good at running, being an ex-track guy.
Sure.
And I'm not a big fan of running, so he makes me run.
Oh, yeah.
So it's been good.
We kind of just bounce ideas off of each other.
It's been cool.
Who's programming for you guys?
Are you guys programming for yourselves?
We program for ourselves.
How far out do you like to program?
Two days or three weeks?
When I walk in the gym in the morning.
Really?
Yeah.
We kind of have a set strength schedule, more or less.
But other than that, the conditioning is pretty random.
Conditioning is just random.
I like to do some rowing intervals or airdyne intervals every day of some sort.
I think I heard you were rowing a lot.
I was rowing a lot.
Not anymore?
Oh, yeah, still.
Just kind of – that kind of fluctuates too.
It's just every day kind of like how do I feel today.
Got you.
Go with it.
Are you doing anything with the football program at Tennessee Tech?
Yeah, we just got – we got done.
They're on spring break now.
When they come back, there'll be spring practice.
We did some good stuff this fall.
I mean, actually this spring, I guess it was.
I added some pretty big numbers.
We got rid of the back squat for this season,
not this season, but this cycle we were going through,
and just had them front squat, and they got pretty strong.
A lot of squats, a lot of cleans.
I think there was an article.
I didn't get a chance to read it, but I was discussing it with somebody.
They were informing me, and they were talking about the top seven exercises
posted by an article posted by Elite Fitness,
top seven exercises for football players.
And one was front squat box squats.
And then the other one was just straight
up deadlift um those were two of the seven i i don't recall what the other five were right but
they were they were common exercises so you guys did any front squat box squat uh we don't do front
squat box squat but we do we did a back squat banded box squat a little bit. So you guys are using the bands. Some speed stuff, yeah.
We college football players are dumb,
so we don't like to give them things where they can injure themselves.
So you find a lot of the freshmen that come in,
they're basically having to be taught how to squat, essentially?
Even when I started, because before Chip was kind of over
or undermanned, I guess you'd say.
Chip who?
Chip Pugh, the head –
Chip Pugh?
Pugh.
Chip Pugh.
Make sure we got that.
I just want to put that out there for everybody.
I knew that.
Yeah.
The head strength coach was kind of undermanned before me.
And, well, now Dan's on staff, and we've got two other guys on staff.
Before that, it was him with about 100 guys,
so it got kind of tough for him because the GAs before us,
I'm not going to say they weren't good coaches,
but I don't think they didn't have the background that me and Dan do
with CrossFit and actually seeing athletes
and making athletes squat and that type of stuff.
Part of it was probably just being sold.
Yeah.
Like, i know this
works we're gonna do this exactly and they were just like they're like oh yeah we're just gonna
follow the program yeah you just do whatever chip tells us to most most gas that i've ever met have
just gotten a degree and their training no idea is lacking exactly in a big way oh yeah usually
yeah yeah so actually with respect to chains and bands how much of that have you incorporated into
your training do you do much chain and band work?
Not really.
I did for a little while.
I guess it was last year.
Right after the games in 2010, I did a little bit.
And then I just got to where I was like, I'm just going to squat normally.
You can't really test that in CrossFit.
You're not going to test that in
crossfit so really what's the point in working with it that much i mean odd objects picking
that type of stuff up i like that type of stuff it's just fun but the bands and chains and all
that stuff like you got much out of it really not not for i mean one rep max you don't i mean yeah
you do a one rep max often but it's but it's not the biggest part of the game.
So it's more like higher reps, the Wendler type stuff.
I mess around with Wendler quite a bit, and it's been pretty good doing five reps.
5-3-1.
5-3-1.
5-3-1 is a solid program.
There's nothing fancy about it.
It's straight up.
You work super hard on the basics, and you get stronger.
That's right.
It's perfect.
That's one thing I do like about it.
It's so simple.
Yeah. hard on the basics and you get stronger that's right it's perfect that's one thing i do like about it's so simple yeah so i think i think a lot of times uh talking some power lifters and
they'll take five three one and then they'll start tweaking it to a degree that bastardizes it i'm
like you're missing the point missing the point now people i think people will get too complex
and try to try too many two different things when stuff's been proven use it you know um you don't
really have to make it your own you don't have to
i mean you can add your own special flavor to it but still it's work it worked that's why it's
so popular don't change it i think a lot of people they're getting results and then they
want to change something because they want to like they think that if they keep changing it
the results will stay on the same track yeah it same track. Just keep doing the same thing you're doing.
Shiny object syndrome. We talked about this.
Find what works and stop doing it.
It's the key to success.
And then ride Johnson.
Oh yeah.
You're going to have to speak up here
at some point. I'm just zoned out, man.
Every five minutes I want you just to go
yeah yeah something like a rap video yeah what i want you to ask doug a question you got a question
for doug he knows a lot about kinesiology and fish oil to tell what that means and fish oil
and fish oil that's right what do you know about fish oil? We talked about that.
You have to watch my episode one, part four on barbellstrug.com on fitter.tv.
You're going to know all about it.
Facebook that.
Facebook it.
Facebook fitter.tv.
Yep.
Like our page?
Like it.
I have to like it?
Like fitter or fitter?
F-I-T-T-R dot TV.
It's very trendy the way we spell it.
Kind of like my dad does text messages.
That's because he's with the times, right?
Yeah, that's right.
L-U-V-U.
You too, dad.
Awesome.
So Jacob, ask him a question.
Besides what is fish oil?
Man, I really want to know about the fish oil. You got mail about the fish? besides what is fish oil man I
I really want to know
about the fish oil
you got me all
about the fish
do you take fish oil
no
no
why should I take fish oil
ooh
turn it around on me
flipping the script
I was flipping it
I can see you in a bar
talking to a girl
she's like
why should I date you
and you're like
ah
shit
why shouldn't you yeah why should I date you? And you're like, ah, shit. Why shouldn't you?
Yeah, why shouldn't you date me?
You tell me.
Let's see.
Fish oil for you.
What are your goals?
Yeah.
Tell me a little about yourself.
A little about myself.
Pretty inconsistent with my training.
He likes long walks on the beach.
Long walks on the beach.
Aroma therapy candles.
A nice latte.
No, go ahead and tell them about your fitness background, Johnson.
My fitness background.
Oh, man.
Yes.
I was what you'd call a meathead, for sure.
First time I ever did CrossFit, actually, I'd known Rich for quite a while,
and he had just started his own little box up
across town and I had accidentally
looked through all my contacts
one day. So you're from Cookville?
I'm from the neighbor
in town. Just say you're from Cookville.
Don't tell them where you're from. It's a crap hole.
It is.
See?
See?
I hope the microphone's picked up
but I was actually gonna call him to get something to eat with me and it's you know hey man come try
out CrossFit I'm like oh I've heard about that no way man I'm gonna lose so much mass that's
stupid he's like all right just get your food and come over. So I come over. I'm sitting here eating. And I see this, like, 130-pound kid just throwing down on weights.
Like, you know, I'm like, man, I probably couldn't do that.
And, you know, here I was coming in.
I was like, I was every bit of, like, 230, 235.
And, dude, I'm like.
Oh, really?
Oh, dude, I'm like 180 pounds right now.
Yeah.
So.
Standing shoulder.
Or what?
Strict shoulder press, 245.
Dude,
up and down.
It's like my bench press.
But I mean,
it was all upper body.
I'm not even gonna lie.
And Doug's back squat.
Oh,
easily.
Easily.
Dude,
it was,
For half a rep,
on the way down.
Oh dude,
house on toothpicks.
House on toothpicks,
man.
House on toothpicks.
Oh,
I was embarrassed,
man.
It was humbling. So, you were like, terrified of losing mass. Oh, man. House on toothpicks. I was embarrassing, man.
It was humbling.
So you were terrified of losing mass, and then you were embarrassed once you got there?
Oh, dude, because I was getting killed.
I mean, I'd have to do pull-ups, man.
I'd have to use the band because I was so inflexible that I couldn't fully extend.
Your shoulders?
Yeah.
Couldn't do a muscle-up.
Not even close, man.
I couldn't get it tight enough to my body body so what'd you do to improve your mobility uh a lot of it was losing just cutting down a lot i mean it was slow massive uh too swole too i mean he was a large human being
from his waist up yeah that's what i'm sayingick legs. Oh, that's not the first time anyone said that to me.
Oh.
Ouch.
It was cold.
It was cold.
It was cold outside.
It was cold at night.
Wait, so how long ago was that?
It's probably been, what, two, two and a half years ago?
Two years.
Two years?
Yeah, right before, probably March of 2010.
Around there, right? I thought it was, like, earlier in the year. It just turned, well, anyway. right before probably March of 2010 around there.
Right.
I thought it was like earlier in the year.
It just turned 2000.
Well,
anyway,
2010.
Yeah.
Let's just say that.
So I feel like,
I feel like that's a pretty common concern with a lot of guys that don't come
in the gym.
I call it like frat boy.
Like mentality is like,
I don't want to do CrossFit because my bench will go down.
That's pretty much the thing that happens.
What, what changed for you? Oh dude. Uh, it's just, it was actually, I don't want to do CrossFit because my bench will go down. That's pretty much the thing that happens.
What changed for you?
Oh, dude, it was actually convincing myself to do it was the hardest thing.
But, dude, now I like it.
If I could be more consistent now, though, I mean, I'll be honest, that's my biggest thing is I'm so inconsistent with my days.
The problem was he didn't have anywhere to work out.
He can't afford the place that he's at or work schedule and they just caused me poor but
i mean i i love it man i mean i'm i'm stronger i'm faster i'm leaner i feel better
look look way better you know and uh that's a opinion but hey
i mean i remember i remember back before
I discovered weightlifting
and then after discovering weightlifting
I discovered CrossFit
I trained a lot for the sole purpose
of putting on muscle mass
I was in the same boat but I squatted
lucky you
I remember those days
it's one of those things where
convincing you that doing some cardio
and high rep stuff was actually going to be beneficial.
I mean, it's hard to swallow when all you're worried about is like your physique.
And it's funny because when you started in CrossFit,
you're probably happier with the way you look anyway.
Oh, yeah, no doubt.
Gotcha.
Well, I think we had more questions prepared for Rich
What was it? I don't remember
I think they're on your computer
They might be
Doug's the organizer of the group
Had you guys been in the Arnold before?
Last year
Yeah, he hadn't been
Darren came with me last year
How's Darren doing?
He's good
He tweaked his back a few months ago.
Something like that.
He complains about it all the time.
He's just a complainer.
He did really good last year.
Yeah, did real well.
He's still mentally.
There's something in that kid's head that he doesn't like to lose
or just too stubborn to quit.
I watched him.
I think his max is like 225 power clean we did a workout that had probably 15 power cleans at 225 and by the end
of it he had a busted nose but he got them all done and how do you bust his nut with a barbell
i have no idea does he know how he does i don't know i look over and he just got blood pouring
from his face and i was like what's your problem was like, take it to 205. He's like, no.
The top of the head snatch is the best.
Yeah, or 155 snatch.
He had to do like, it was 55 reps.
It was like 10 down to one ladder.
It's hitting him in the head and he's pushing it up.
I've seen that once before.
I think that happened in the faction games.
Some dude like snatched weight up.
It was on his head and he goes.
And like the judge is looking at me.'m like i guess that counts whatever that was impressive i don't you may
not want to call it a snatch but it's impressive cleanish jerkish snatch kind of combo yeah our
main focus uh since we've been here we've been getting a lot of video of the weightlifting. We've been following one of our friends, Zach Critch.
He bombed out.
He missed his first three snatches.
He went on, and I'm glad that he did do the three clean and jerks.
He ended up PRing on his clean and jerk by two kilos.
I think it was two kilos.
Three kilos, yeah.
Three kilos.
192 was his old max.
Okay.
He got 195.
Wow. 429. The guy weighs 187 pounds. Three kilos, yeah. Three kilos. 192 was his old max. Okay, and he hit 195. Wow, 429.
The guy weighs 187 pounds.
186, 187 pounds.
That's pretty solid.
And a 195 clean jerk.
He beat the 94 kilo class.
Yeah, yeah.
Wow.
Yeah.
Yeah, not the 105.
Yeah.
Because Donnie Shankle got 205.
But anyone that wasn't Donnie Shankle,
I want to say Zach beat them.
I think Don opened at 195.
And he opened whenever it was done.
So he would have, Donnie Shankle aside, won the 105s also as an 85-kilo guy.
That's so ridiculous.
Holy crap.
Yeah.
Has it ever crossed your mind to focus on weightlifting or anything like that?
Yeah, I mean, it has.
You're happy with CrossFit. i'd like to weightlift i mean if there's anything that's you know my kind of secret like that's what i do when i'm bored or when it means it's weightlifting yeah um i do a lot of i usually
snatch twice a week and clean and jerk or just clean twice a week so um definitely work on those two a lot.
Yeah, so you love the lifts, obviously.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, because you guys are programming on a day-to-day basis.
Right, yeah.
You're throwing them in there pretty frequently.
There's a just, I mean, it's so beneficial, those two movements,
and they're just fun for me.
So I want to get better at them, so I do them pretty often.
What's your best snatch?
Clean and jerk.
275, not kilos, pounds, is my best snatch.
How many kilos is that?
No idea.
Quick math on the spot.
No idea.
Let me get my calculator.
I can tell you.
And then...
125 kilos, actually.
Last week, I think.
Power clean and jerked 325.
Oh, shit.
It wasn't the prettiest power clean, but it was a power clean nonetheless.
I don't know.
I've squat cleaned 335 before, and the jerk's not a problem.
I just didn't try to jerk it that time.
Hey.
What do you weigh?
195. Dude, you need to go you weigh? Uh, 195.
195.
Dude, you need to go compete.
That'd be fun.
You know what?
Next year.
After the games.
Talk to me.
Okay, I'll talk to you.
We'll get you.
You just need to do a meet sometime between now and next year nationals.
But American Open is in December.
Right.
You'd probably.
That'd be way better for you.
Right.
Like December's way more off season for CrossFit.
You gotta just qualify.
Yeah.
Go to the American Open and you won't be last.
Hey,
as long as I don't get last.
That's why, that's the way I started CrossFit.
Just don't get last.
If you're not first,
you're last.
But,
that's Jacob Johnson.
But,
I mean, that, that, that's quite an an accomplishment if you can show up to a very
specialist specialist competition and then not play flat where you have to qualify right you
can't just show the american open right you have to hit like a certain you know uh total total yeah
yeah just going to the american open means you got some skills like my my year this my year
my goal this year is just to go to the American
Open, just qualify and go
to Nationals. Maybe something in December?
And I'll probably finish last.
If you do well.
If I can qualify.
But, yeah.
You should do that. That'd be fun. December?
December.
It's usually – is that Birmingham usually?
It's been Birmingham.
It's been in Shreveport.
It's been in – it was near Phoenix.
This last – I think it was not this last year, but the year before.
I don't know.
It seems to go back to Birmingham pretty frequently, so it's not far.
It's not a bad drive.
It's like six hours for me, I think.
So, yeah.
All right, guys. I think we we're gonna take a break real quick so uh James and Chris will show you a cool video and then we'll come back all right
hey guys this is CTP hey and this is James Chaney and uh we've been trying to come up with this
commercial here for five minutes so uh we've been trying to come up with this commercial here for five minutes.
So we've been failing miserably.
So what we're going to do is just try to explain what we're doing.
So tell them, James.
All right.
So what we're doing is we're doing a documentary about Olympic weightlifting.
Okay, if you do CrossFit, you probably know what a clean and jerk or a snatch is.
These are the guys in the Olympics that they throw an incredible amount of weight over their heads.
In other countries, people know about them.
But for some reason, in the United States, no one really knows about the sport and about its top
elite athletes. So we want to change that. We want to bring light to this really cool sport.
I mean, there's really nothing cooler than throwing over 400 pounds over your head.
I agree with that.
So we're going to go around, we're going to follow the top athletes. There's about three
or four guys we're going to follow, and we're going to document how they train, how they live,
how they eat. I want to find out what makes them tick. And then guys we're going to follow And we're going to document how they train How they live, how they eat
Want to find out what makes them tick
And then we're also going to travel down to the Pan Am Championships
In May in Guatemala
And we're going to film that because that competition
Is going to decide who gets to go to the Olympics
And there's actually only going to be
One guy who's going to go to the Olympics
This year to represent the United States for weightlifting
One spot baby
So if you want to help us You can go, where are they going?
We're going to check out our Kickstarter campaign.
You can find a link on the blog at fitter.tv.
Check out the weightlifting documentary blog,
and then you'll see a link for the Kickstarter website.
Yep, and James is doing a good job of keeping everybody posted
on kind of what we're doing there.
So if you want to keep up with how the progress is going, check it out.
Fitter.tv.
We're awesome commercial makers.
Peace.
All right, guys.
Mike Blessa back here.
Still Doug Larson and Rich Froning.
But we switched out our other guest for Tyler Peek.
That's right.
Jacob Johnson didn't say much.
We're like, we've got to change this guy out.
He gave me the ax.
He's gone.
So you're part of the entourage as well?
I am.
I kind of got drawn in.
Like you didn't want to be a part of the entourage?
Is there like a tryout?
It's like it's such a bad thing.
No, he's like, I didn't really want to do it, but nobody else let me in.
No, there's not a tryout.
Well, they don't know there's a tryout, but there's a tryout.
There's like a probationary period, and he passed it.
He's all right.
There's a text you get at 7 in the morning saying, hey, Tyler, let's work out.
2 a.m. in the morning.
My tryout would be more like, you know, it's 7 a.m.
It's like, hey, go get me a coffee and meet me at my house and bring it to me.
And bring it.
No, there's a much more rigorous test.
I don't know what it is.
I must have done it. I mean, I don't know what it is I must have done it
I mean I don't know
alright so
one of the things I think CrossFit did
that was genius
mostly Greg Glassman was to actually
define
fitness
and in doing so
they ended up creating
the CrossFit Games
if you win the crossfit
games you're the fittest on earth right right fittest on earth so as far as as far as that goes
you you've won the crossfit games once once yeah and the time before you were you're damn close
but for some reason the the rope climb eluded you. The rope climb, it eluded me. Here it goes again.
He's like, I don't want to fucking talk about it.
Hulk smash!
I thought that was over.
Well, I got to bring a bowl of shit.
Is that why you brought me on here?
So, I mean, like, in my opinion,
and probably the opinion of a ton of other CrossFitters,
you know, you're hands down, like, the best CrossFitter in the world.
As far as the rest of the fitness community,
obviously we're the Arnold Classic or Arnold Sports Festival as it's referred to now.
And there's all sorts of versions of fitness walking around um if i pick up a triathlon
type magazine they're referring or you know a lot of fitness magazines they'll be referring to some
iron man triathlete as the fittest guy on earth right so uh how do you see the um just the general
fitness public accepting crossfit fittest man on earth fittest man on earth, fittest woman on earth, stuff like that.
How do you think that works?
I think it's definitely tough because, like you're saying,
if anybody asks who the fittest on earth would be a few years ago
when Lance Armstrong was winning all that stuff,
of course that's the number one answer
because that's what's in the public's eye and all that stuff.
For Americans. For Americans, that's true. in the public's eye and all that stuff. For Americans.
For Americans, that's true.
You got another country, whoever their guy is that's doing well in a sport.
That's true.
France is like, we don't know who that is.
We just don't like France.
Talking about him is illegal.
Talking about him is illegal.
Yeah, it's kind of tough, though.
Like you're saying, if you don't have a definition of fitness,
how can you
make that claim and i i think greg's done a great job of you know making uh making that claim or
at least the criteria for the what fitness is it's a fantastic argument right like when when
when presented it's going when presented it's like oh that's obvious that's the thing is it's
got to be presented most people are just like across it's stupid, oh, that's obvious. That's the thing is it's got to be presented. Most people are just like, CrossFit's stupid.
Or, you know, how can you say you're the fittest?
And then you kind of have to break it down to them.
And even then you have to say the fittest tested because there's, you know,
who knows if there's some freak.
I'm sure there's some freak in Kenya that could throw something in there.
Sure.
I actually really appreciate the 2012 CrossFit Games shield
where it says,
Prove Your Fitness.
Prove Your Fitness, yeah.
Yeah, that's the perfect logo
or the perfect model really for this year's games
or for any year's games
is regardless what your definition of fitness is,
you can come in here and you can compete
and anybody can compete
since the Open's open to anybody
and you can see where you stand.
That's fantastic. No other sport is like that it's not like anybody can try out for the nfl any year yeah like they say make their way to the world champion of football but i mean
yeah it's the best team out of high school college and professional but you know who knows if there's
another team somewhere else right so so kind of on that note, the games have evolved a lot over the last four or five years.
Every year it's fucking totally different.
So last year, do you feel like it was the most kind of honest representation of what true fitness is?
The most diverse?
Of course it is.
Which one?
Which one? Of course it is because I won. Which we won.
The only problem you could see with the CrossFit Games and even in coming years is it's got to be TV friendly,
which also helps a guy like me that nobody wants to see somebody
just row a 10K or run a 10K.
It's not fun to watch.
I thought you were talking about your abs.
Real funny.
If you do the rest of this podcast with your shirt off,
I'll give you $100.
I'll do it for $50.
I think you're worth about $5.
In any of those cases, you don't have that much money but yeah it's i i mean you know because everybody's like well they don't have a
a pure test of um cardiovascular fitness or you know it's not a long there's no real
ultra long event but then if you think about three days 10 workouts it's a pretty long event
yeah i say put a triathlete in that yeah yeah swim yeah swim push-up squat yeah exactly run
sure they'd be sucking wind at the end of that yeah yeah no way i about died try yeah not to
totally knock triathletes but i'm gonna knock triathletes whenever we get endurance athletes
that email me and say that i'm an endurance athlete i do a lot of running a lot of swimming i'm like oh fuck
this is going to be the worst they always think they are and then they're always the worst
usually actually because of mobility their their endurance is okay the strength usually so so
depending on who they are their mobility is just terrible and they can't even do the movements right
let alone do them i was the one of the best comments i ever saw was so and so run a marathon in like two hours and
something minutes and then the person said i bet i can run a marathon before they'll be able to
clean and jerk 225 yeah that's for sure so you know who's fitter yeah um like you're just talking
you got to define it first so yeah i mean I think that's a genius from a marketing perspective as well.
So you've been, um, so being at the Arnold sports festival,
you're sponsored by BSN. Yep. Uh, you've been at the booth quite a bit.
Yes, I have. Yeah. Lots of people, lots of large, large people.
So, um, what, what's been your role at the BSN booth?
Um, sign autographs to people that have no idea who I am. So what's been your role at the BSN booth?
Sign autographs to people that have no idea who I am.
That was going to be my next question is how many people walking through the Arnold is like, oh, it's Rich.
It's Rich.
I've had a few, but not nearly the guy to the left of me that his arms are as big as my head.
Right.
And then we had to do a little, they did a little circuit challenge.
It was a circuit.
They can't really call it CrossFit.
So they just did two rounds.
We put people through.
I like poods.
We put people through some pull-ups, push-ups, and air squats. So it was pretty funny, actually, to watch some of these people die.
Yeah. Actually, how much resistance do you get with this this type of crowd you get the bodybuilders powerlifters and
actually any other you know uh the guy next to me just thought we were crazy um and the girl
to my other side was like i need to i was thinking about starting to try that. And I was like, try it out. She was more of a, um, a figure,
not a jacked,
like grossly figures.
My favorite actually.
Yeah.
You know,
bikinis.
Nice.
Yeah.
Figures kind of pretty much wears out and then bodybuilding.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's on its way out in a big way.
Yeah.
Female bodybuilding,
especially.
Woof.
So Tyler,
Tyler, what's your favorite bikini
figure or bodybuilder definitely the figure i was there at the booth i saw the lady
she won that competition the competition in your mind yeah
yeah exactly
so how long you been training, Tyler?
It's about, let's see, it'd be a year and six months maybe.
Yeah, probably.
Maybe less than that, something.
You train with Rich?
I used to a lot more than I do now,
but now it's just kind of like just come over whenever.
And I got a place at home that Rich will come over and come up and we'll you know
tyler lives about 10 minutes from me and he started working out i'll take this from here tyler
no he worked out with me for what a year and then when we when we left mayhem and started
or went with crossfit cookfield he left me his His dad built him a little shed in the back.
Do you sleep there too?
I think that was the general idea.
Actually, his dad's pretty good with metal.
He can make anything.
So he'll go on Rogue's site and make stuff for Tyler.
They put their measurements online.
It's not very smart. So Tyler's dad's pretty good pretty good at making stuff i think
rogue's pretty genius because they do they do put their see your dad can do it for cheaper right
oh like if i were to go hire a welder oh yeah and say hey uh welder dude here's all the dimensions
could you build this for me and they'll come back with a quote sorry rogue i've done this um but uh
they'll come back with a quote that's higher than what the actual product at Rogue will be.
So I'll give them a free plug, essentially.
But, you know, like, hey, we want this pull-up rack, this rig, or whatever.
You know, how much can it be built for?
And they come back, and it's like $1,000 more than what I was going to just spend at Rogue.
They're good.
It's good.
It's incredible what kind of job they do so i wouldn't i would never try to like do what they do we're
done making our own stuff we've done it before it's terrible i don't know we never do it as
well as they do not even close just duct tape together or it ends up duct taped that's right
this microphone stand, in fact,
that's a wire. I see that electrical tape.
It's nice.
We lost something. It's a good color.
Yeah, thanks.
What else you got, team leader?
I can hear someone. Is that mine?
Yeah, that's my phone.
614
number. Someone from here.
I don't know.
I'm out of questions.
Doug, we had some prepared questions.
I know we're missing some.
All we had on the sheet was Arnold stuff, weightlifting stuff,
CrossFit taking over the powerlifting area, which I think is hilarious.
Oh, yeah.
Especially in Columbus, Ohio, the fucking mecca of powerlifting. CrossFit took over their area
and they got pushed to the other side
of the expo into a much smaller venue.
Yeah, Doug and I have been coming to Arnold
for years,
and we would always leave the weightlifting area,
which is in the same exact spot.
Like, when you come to the expo
or come to the Arnold Sports Festival,
everything's in the same place every year. Gymnastics is in the Arnold Sports Festival, everything's in the same place every year.
Gymnastics is in the same place.
Fencing's in the same place.
Jump rope competition's in the same place.
Power lifting, all that stuff.
Well, power lifting used to be in that.
Where CrossFit is now, which is, like, probably the largest space
that's not the Expo Hall, right?
And, you know, you'd go in there like, oh, death metal.
And that's what it sounds like, guys.
You go in and it's all powerlifting, which is cool.
And this was the first year that we arrived.
And we're like, oh, we'll go to the CrossFit.
Where's CrossFit?
Where's CrossFit?
Oh, there it is, where the powerlifting used to be.
Were you guys here last year?
I was not here.
Actually, last year was like the first year I missed.
Where were we last year?
We were creating Adopt TV.
Oh, that's right.
Yeah, we were doing entrepreneurial.
That's when Fitter TV was invented.
It was one year ago, the weekend of the arm.
And we didn't do anything with it for 10 months, and then we restarted with a different mission.
Well, actually, history behind Fitter TV, initially, excuse me, it was supposed to be a site just like Netflix, but just for fitness stuff.
Oh, wow.
That's how it came about.
There is a reason we didn't do it.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, we had a better idea.
This is it. There it is. so yeah that's right it was there last year before that we were here
we've been here almost every year i think the first year we competed here was in 2007 years
yeah oh seven is yeah five yeah weightlifting we competed weightlifting in 2007 here
no i did yeah were you here yeah i was here we but. I did. Yes. Were you here?
Yeah, I was here.
You're right.
I'm getting my years mixed up.
Me and Andy all did.
Yep.
You remember what you got back then, actually, five years ago?
My total was not even 220.
It was low.
Oh, really?
It was bad.
I think I cleaned it.
I was like, if I snatched 90 kilos one day, I was like, ah.
That's when I dropped that weight on my head.
Actually,
Doug,
Doug,
there's a video.
Actually,
we should track it down.
I snatched,
I snatched two 30 and then I clean and jerks two 87.
But,
but the first time I tried,
I dropped it right on my head.
Nice.
This is on YouTube.
If you want to watch it,
we're used to training back then.
We were used to training with like shitty barbellss that didn't have the same amount of spin.
We showed up to the meet and they're using the Lico bars.
We're not used to the spin, so Doug was like...
Right out of his head.
Right out of his head.
I went to jerk it and it went forward just a little bit
and I over-rotated and went back and it hit me right on my head.
Nice.
I went out two minutes later and got it, but was like whoa that was not that was not patient with that
yeah so i the cross it's huge yeah one thing we noticed though is like i didn't spend very
much time in the crossfit area this year um or in a year um spent most of my time in weightlifting
that was pretty exciting last night 94ilo weight class was super exciting,
partly because John North is in that weight class, and he's a nut job.
He's pretty entertaining.
We won't show him this video.
But we're trying to go spend some time with John.
You know, he sounds like a nut job on stage,
but if you talk to him face-to-face,, off the platform, he's a super nice guy.
Like, just, like, he's like, hey, man, how you doing?
You know, like, not how he presents himself on stage.
So you were watching him back in the training room, and he, like, hit anyone who watches any videos.
John North is, like, really loud when he's on the platform, and he's getting everyone to cheer.
And, you know, he's just like, get there, big salute.
He, like, I guess he's back in the training area, hit a snatch, and he's getting everyone to cheer, and, you know, he's like, get their big salute. I guess he's back in the training area, hit a snatch, and he's like, you know,
blowing the smoke out the barrels of his guns.
Does he always salute, or is he making fun of Kendrick?
I think he was making fun of Kendrick.
Do you know if he always salutes?
Because Kendrick would hit a lip, and he would give a salute,
and then John North, he was coming up, he's the weight class after Kendrick would hit a lift and he would give a salute and then John North he was coming up, he's the weight class after Kendrick
and I think he was just
Did Kendrick lift?
Kendrick did really well actually
He smoked all the snatches
I think it was a 156 snatch
198 clean and jerk
I'm not sure on his snatch,
but we watched him do a 202 cleaning jerk a while back,
which is pretty good.
The American record.
We were here last year when he passed out.
Oh, really?
That's right.
Yeah, scary.
I saw the video of that.
Scary.
There were some guys that passed out.
Actually, one guy laughed a little too loud when he passed out.
Everyone around us is concerned, and Doug and I are like, ah! out actually one guy one guy laughed a little too loud when he passed out it was bad especially on the replay that's why i mean i think we were laughing a lot of people maybe a lot of people weren't weightlifters they don't know that like it's you know if you catch a
bar on on your throat or you know like you know, you cut that blood off,
you'll pass out. And then you'll wake up.
And the guy didn't, like,
fall and land on his head.
He, like, sat down,
and then went, like,
out.
It was pretty comical.
James was actually,
where he was getting his footage from,
the guy's mother is standing, like,
right next to him.
She's like,
I'm gonna throw up.
Yeah, yeah, Jared Fleming, his mom was right next to him. She's like, I'm going to throw up. Yeah, Jared Fleming.
His mom was right next to him.
Yeah, it was Jared Fleming.
She's like, oh my gosh, I can't watch.
Oh, I'm going to throw up.
Wow.
I spend most of my time in the weightlifting area.
What's funny is in the past, I've always found CrossFit way more exciting.
That's one of the things that drew me from weightlifting right um to crossfit was uh how
exciting it was and it was exciting for me as a competitor um and just just training was a lot
more fun than weightlifting at the time i think it's because i'd been doing nothing but weightlifting
right at least a year and a half stuck in a rut yeah um at least psychologically and uh
and i started crossfitting but i noticed that uh watching the weightlifting was more fun than
watching the crossfit this weekend i think part of it was because there's nothing in line i mean
it's just kind of a well yeah yeah i mean anyone could sign up and do the the crossfit workouts
but then over on the weightlifting side it was was just elite. You had to qualify to go to nationals.
So only the best were lifting.
So I think that's almost any sport.
Yeah.
If it's the best are competing, it's worth watching.
Right.
Like watching a peewee football game or a professional football game.
Yeah.
Which one would you rather watch?
Totally different.
Unless your kid's there.
Then I guess you probably want to watch a peewee.
Exactly.
With CrossFit being at their own sports festival,
I think maybe they should be probably featuring.
They definitely do a good job of featuring you guys,
more elite athletes, but not the whole time.
It would be difficult without putting on a full-on competition
that actually counted.
Yeah.
I mean, even, I guess it was yesterday,
they were doing some strongman hybrid CrossFit.
It was Rob.
Yeah, I watched some of that.
But, I mean, that's not pure CrossFit, so it's kind of like whatever.
Do you think that you're going to see more?
I was sitting there watching all that, and I was thinking, you know,
is this a telltale sign of what's to come at the CrossFit Games?
Rogue sponsors the CrossFit Games.
And, you know, if they do this stuff at the CrossFit Games,
then they can sell more equipment, right?
Yeah, but I think – I still think it's just – I mean, yeah,
we'll see some of that stuff because you're going to see some –
but you'll maybe see one event or one of those things.
You're not going to see just that's what the CrossFit games are.
Personally, I don't think because that's not purely what CrossFit is.
And you've got Castro's mind behind it.
That's true.
You're going to see some crazy stuff.
What does that mean?
What are you saying about Castro?
You know me and Castro.
I'm not insulting him whatsoever. You know Castro and I know me and Castro. I'm not insulting him whatsoever.
You know Castro and I are super good buddies.
I'm not insulting him at all.
I'm actually shocked at how prominent Rogue's presence is at the Arnold.
I see their stuff with everybody.
I thought it was probably just the CrossFit community.
Rogue's stuff's cool though.
Oh no, their stuff is awesome.
I think their stuff is the shit.
And their customer service is great.
I can't say enough good stuff about Rogue,
but I didn't expect to see all their stuff
all over the expo hall
and all the fitness and bodybuilding stuff, too.
I saw a Rogue bench press plates bar.
Really?
I see their bumpers and their equipment.
That's awesome.
They're having pull-up contests,
and it's all on Rogue rigs.
Their stuff is everywhere.
It's good stuff. It really is good stuff.
Are you sponsored by Rogue Rich?
Yeah.
Honestly, people at home,
I didn't know that.
I am now.
I was again faster last year.
We won't talk about that.
We won't talk about that.
We'll let that. year but we won't talk about it. So Rich do you have any questions for Doug? Why should I use fish oil?
About life flow. I do use fish oil but...
John's over there like yeah, why should we use fish oil?
He still wants to know please tell me
on the cab ride home he's gonna be like i really still want to know he's gonna he's gonna google
maybe we shouldn't talk about it he's gonna google it it'll force him to watch our first episode
all right tyler do you have any questions for doug not me because i don't know anything
yeah i'm a question asker but he's the question ask i don't know i'm doug and i'm going to question asker. The question asker. I don't know, Doug.
I'm trying to think, buddy.
He knows everything, by the way.
Mike likes to put people on the spot like that sometimes. Yeah, I know.
I'm thinking.
You've been sitting here for 20 minutes.
One of the very first podcasts we had.
Wait, who was on our very first podcast where we had all the equipment?
This equipment?
Yeah. Alex? No. The one before that i think was alex it was alex yeah it was alex like
the very first thing that happened you were like okay this is the podcast uh
so alex you do weightlifting and stuff tell us about weightlifting and stuff and alex was like
uh i got nothing you just gave like the most open-ended question ever.
He had nothing to say about it.
I mean, I'm in podcast.
Tell us about how you do things.
He was like, oh, shit.
It's not like he's been weightlifting for years and years and years.
I don't know what to do with my hands.
What do I do with my hands?
He had just done his first weightlifting meet
three days prior to the podcast.
He's like,
I like weightlifting.
I like to lift heavy stuff and put it over my head.
You can tell me to shut up
and we can edit this out later if you want.
I don't care.
I'm not talking about what we've done so far.
Where we're going. Rich is like, like yeah you say a lot of stupid things it's fine just keep it's okay yeah and and don't feel and if he wants to add anything out we'll
we'll make it happen we're not gonna we're not gonna like make you look bad but i was talking
to you earlier at the at the party i like how he prefaced what he was about to say he was like
i mean any anything that you
want us to edit out, we can. So anyway, about this
thing I was thinking about.
About that crazy chick.
He's like, we're going to edit
this out. Take it out.
Now,
you're talking about all the attention
you get and stuff like that.
It kind of gets overwhelming.
And then right after you told me about that, I like hey you should come to this podcast um you know it's
it's it's cool it's just been uh a complete 180 from i mean two years ago when we met yeah i mean
it was just it was my entourage and now it's just everybody asking for pictures. So it's like, I mean, it's cool.
It's definitely flattering that people want to have my picture with them,
but it's just like.
Is it surprising to see that come from the CrossFit community?
Yeah, it is real surprising, you know, because like I told you guys,
all I do is work out.
It's not that big a deal.
I just work out a lot.
And I think that a lot and I think
that I think a lot of people who are new to CrossFit actually uh they find you to be like
maybe novels not the right word but uh they're you're kind of like an idol to a lot of these
guys that are new to CrossFit and I met you like you said at your first competition right exactly
and um I actually saw you and I was like, this guy's doing it all wrong.
It sucks.
I was like, I'm going to go help.
I was trying to be helpful with a lot of people.
Not that I'm like a genius about weightlifting or anything like that.
But you know what you're doing.
One of the movements was the snatch and I was like, you know, helping everybody out.
I knew I wasn't going to win or anything.
So I was like, I'm just going to try and help everyone make everyone as good as possible.
And McGoldrick's going there.
Mike, stop helping people.
I want to win.
Oh, yeah.
Mike was in third, I think.
Or second.
He was in second.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's Mike McGoldrick for you at home.
But, yeah, he was like, but he was joking, too.
Right, yeah.
No, I know Mike.
So, yeah, we're all friends.
But it's one of those things where I was like oh yeah you should change this or that and you were actually really receptive
and that was cool at the time i was like who's this guy i'm like the whole time like who's this
guy and i'm just helping everyone and then like you end up like winning the whole thing i was like
what just probably i probably didn't have to tell you anything i was like so i didn't have to tell you anything I was like
I didn't have to tell you a damn word
And you probably would have just totally smoked it
That's not what he said when he got home that day
He was like I taught this guy how to do it
Every single one because of what I told him
Everything
The only thing I left out was the rope climbing
Yeah
Appreciate that
Left out that chapter
It was pretty cool i mean
having having met you on that day and then and then thereafter it was kind of like uh and having
been in crossfit for a while uh uh not that i i don't think that you're i mean i think you're
great and all but like um like i'm like i'm not like we should get a we should get a picture with you and i thought it was kind of funny like so i get the at the party and people
are like can i get a picture with you yeah i kept on happening i thought that was pretty funny yes
um but you know if you're brand new to crossfit you're just like you know maybe bo jackson is
the baseball or something like that you know right i don't he's like that's right i don't
know i don't know about that i don't know about that. I don't know about that. And football. And football.
Both of them.
Sorry, Bo.
If you're listening.
Well, something funny about Rich, like before CrossFit really blew up.
Back in Covell, nobody knows who he is.
You know, they're like, who's Rich Froning, you know?
I tell people I'm going to the Classic with Rich.
Who's that?
They don't know him, and it's crazy.
They still don't know him.
I mean, it's more now since the ESPN.
They're like, oh, I've seen him on TV.
But other than that, no, I watch CrossFit.
It's weird.
It is pretty weird.
How many people in Cookville do CrossFit?
How many people are in Cookville?
Is it a big group?
I know it's outside.
I went there once.
It's like 40,000, and then we have quite a few surrounding cities that, like, during
the day, they bring in more people, so probably like 60 or 70 during the...
That's where Johnson's from, and it's terrible.
Where?
Monterey, Tennessee.
I want to talk about it.
Monterey.
C.
C.
What a... So, is it a college town? Yeah about it. Monterey. C. C. What?
So is it a college town?
Yeah, it's a college town.
Tennessee Tech is there.
They were the first ones to implement CrossFit football.
10 or 11,000.
Did that play any part in you doing CrossFit?
Yeah, actually, the head strengths coach was one of my professors.
He was teaching a training for performance class
because I was getting my undergrad in exercise science and uh showed us videos every day and was like hey you
need to try this stuff out so you say undergrad most people when they say undergrad that means
they went on and did more school well i'm working on my master's right now your master's and what
uh exercise science i think it's just fitness and wellness they have different concentrations
or whatever but yeah exercise science very cool so they's just fitness and wellness. They have different concentrations or whatever, but exercise science.
Very cool.
So they were doing CrossFit football before you showed up.
Yeah, Chip actually.
They were the first school, right?
Yeah.
I figured you helped pioneer that.
No, Chip's actually, he's the one that showed me CrossFit.
And he was a GA, or no, he went to Ohio University
where Josh Everett was a GA while Chip played football.
Oh, really?
So Chip learned from Josh Everett.
Yeah, so it's pretty cool the way it trickled down from there.
I haven't heard much about him lately, Josh Everett.
I used to hear about him all the time.
He's a Navy SEAL or a Navy strength and conditioning coach.
He's working at NSWC in San Diego, Coronado.
He's training SEAL teams in strength and conditioning.
Right.
Yeah, he's their strength coach out there.
And he still posts on CrossFit.com.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You can still see his scores on there.
Yeah.
Doug checks CrossFit.com every day.
Daily.
Do you?
No.
No.
No.
No.
Yeah, Doug does his own version of crossfit slash training uh he's a fighter so
he does mma so he does a lot of strength training his conditioning consists of uh
fighter type stuff gotcha you know fighter stuff fighters the stuff super scientific
that's right fighters classified classified yeah my metcons are pretty limited
but
gotcha
most of it's pure strength stuff
strength and power stuff
and then
all my conditionings
sparring and wrestling
and pad work
and on and on
gotcha
I don't like getting hit in the face
no
me neither
there's just something about it
I could be a fighter
if I just didn't get hit in the face
there's just something
just pissing me off
we've actually talked about like
marketing a gym that way
it's like train like a fighter
without having to get punched in the face.
Like, oh, I'd be genius.
Be awesome.
Like, yeah, I want to look and train like a fighter,
but I hate being hurt.
It's terrible.
It's terrible.
And one of the things was like,
Doug and I used to be training partners,
and pretty much it ended when he punched me in the face so hard that blood
shot out everywhere.
And, uh, and I couldn't train for a couple months cause my blood, my nose, it was seriously
like, he like, he like jacked it up big time.
So those things were like, I couldn't wrestle.
I couldn't box.
I couldn't do anything.
Maybe hit the bag, but we weightlifted a lot too.
So I just focused on weightlifting.
You had two black eyes for a while, dude.
He, yeah, yeah. He hit me. You had two black eyes for a while. Dude, yeah.
Yeah, he hit me.
I'm like, I'm still going.
By the way, I was hungover at the time.
I was like, he had like a fight coming up in a week.
I'm like obligated to go train with my training partner.
I was like, oh my God, I'm going to feel terrible.
I'm going to go train with Doug.
At the time, I didn't mind getting punched in the face at all.
I was like, getting punched in the face doesn't bother me.
Just don't kick me in the leg.
By the way, if you guys want, let Doug kick you in the leg after this.
I'm good.
Terrible.
You wish you got punched in the face.
So I used to not mind getting punched in the face, and then he just totaled my nose.
This is one of those things where you hit the nose
and you're not crying but
you're really crying
you're crying you're like
your eyes are tearing but
you're not crying
I'm a man
no it's funny I didn't even know I was
jacked up I get hurt I saw stars
I was a little wobbly on my feet but that was pretty regular No, the funny thing I didn't even know is jacked up. I get hurt. I saw stars.
I was a little wobbly on my feet, but that was pretty regular.
A little tell you, but if I'm ever slow to answer any questions in the future,
that's why.
I was pretty used to that.
But, you know, one of the coaches was like, blood, blood, blood, stop, stop,
stop, and there's, like, blood all over the mat.
I'm like, is that my blood? Doug, what what i do to you i do have a question now doug why'd you hit mike so hard was it some like underlying issues or
what was going on that's right it's just i think it was an accident actually i didn't know that i
hurt you he didn't he yeah afterwards he was like i didn't even think i hit you that hard i'm like dude you
connected like like you hit the sweet spot i hit you a couple times and then and then i kicked you
in the leg a few times and then and then you like really pissed him off you knelt down and i was
like oh he must he must be tired i guess he's tired i'm so tired i took a knee
and then when you had black eyes the next day i was like oh wow you really did get hit hard yeah I was so tired I took a knee. Must be hungover.
And then when you had black eyes the next day, I was like, oh, wow, you really did get hit hard.
Yeah, I was like, I went to the bathroom and stuff.
And I was like, oh, I think I'm done for the day.
And he's like, oh, you're just being a pussy.
And like the next day, we were roommates at the time.
I come out of my room and there's like two black guys.
He's like, yeah.
Oh, wow.
Well, boxing is kind of like weightlifting. If you had a snatch totally perfect with good technique, it just fucking flies up there.
You look so much more powerful than you are, right?
Same thing.
Like, if you connect on a punch, like, right at the end of your extension, and they're, like, moving in at the same time, and everything all just comes together perfectly, it's going to just destroy somebody.
That's why you see guys in the UFC, and sometimes they'll get knocked out, and the guy's just like.
Yeah. Oh, yeah, it doesn't look bad. You're like, that's not you see guys in the UFC and sometimes they'll get knocked out and the guy's just like yeah oh yeah it doesn't look bad and he just you know he falls down totally unconscious and you're like that was that was weird almost yeah so I actually missed out on there was like a couple
months where I couldn't do anything because as soon as my nose got touched I mean it was like
that nah it was like just tears start pouring out of my face. You weren't crying though? No, not bitch tears.
Regular tears.
Man tears.
And then grad school started
and then the gym picked up
and I discovered
that when I was just doing CrossFit
and no MMA
that I felt really good.
I was like, my joints feel
oh, I didn't know your joints could feel good.
Everything hurts so much all the time.
I didn't know what it felt like to be healthy,
but by doing just CrossFit.com,
I felt really healthy.
I was like, oh, okay.
The lower volume training
and not getting punched in the face.
Not getting punched in the face or kicked in the leg.
Yeah.
I still don't.
I still don't get punched in the face or kicked in the leg to this day.
Don't kick me.
Don't kick me.
Terrible.
Oh, geez.
So what's it look like for you this year?
Do you get a bye in regionals?
No bye.
Okay.
But everybody.
It's prove your fitness year.
It's prove your fitness.
That's right.
We don't know you.
Every year it's different.
There's no pre-qualified, but if I make it, they're going to take an extra spot.
Right.
Makes sense.
What about Dan Bailey?
He's got six, so it doesn't matter.
But Graham, if Graham gets in again, they're taking another spot.
Okay.
So they normally take, what, top three out of regionals?
Yeah. And so if you get it, then they take top four. And then if Graham gets it too, they take five another spot. So they normally take top three out of regionals? Yeah.
And so if you get it, then they take top four?
And then if Graham gets it too, they take five.
Our region is sick.
It's stacked.
I remember looking at a blog last year
that was talking about regions
and how competitive they are.
The most competitive region was
Europe.
The whole continent.
Because there's a lot of countries there right
spoken like a true tennessean is it i've been there now so i can actually talk like that there
you go so then um uh and the second most competitive was central east which is our
region right so i think a lot of people get a little discouraged yeah by that but i mean they're taking two now so and they said if we don't qualify
crossfit reserves the right to invite whoever they want i think i saw that someone and i was
reading the rule book the other day i was trying to see if one of our guys could compete if he
didn't do all the open wads mike yep yeah that guy that guy. Mike McGoldrick.
You better look at his scores.
Well, cool.
So basically CrossFit reserves the right to invite anyone that will make them money.
Is that basically what you just said? I'm not saying a word.
I didn't say that.
I didn't say a word.
Dave Castro, if you see this, he said that.
I'm totally friendly with that, by the way.
Making money is totally cool.
Making money.
Even when other people are doing it.
It's an abundance mentality.
That's right.
All right, guys.
I think that about wraps it up.
Unless Rich got any questions?
No, I'm good.
Tyler?
I answer questions. I'm good, man. You've been talking to him this whole time. I know, man. I don't know wraps it up unless Rich got any questions? No, I'm good. Tyler? I answer questions.
I'm good, man.
You've been talking to him this whole time.
I know, man.
I don't know what it is.
I don't know what it is.
Between you and Johnson, I couldn't hear myself think.
He's like, looking out from the corner like, I hate this Doug guy.
Punch him in his face.
Now I know he's a fighter
Don't kick me in the legs
James make sure you got a video camera for that
Tyler I'll go with you first

No, I just take the pictures for Rich.
That's about it.
Hey, can you snap this photo?
Yeah, sure.
What website do you publish that to?
I need to get one.
We'll put it that way.
What would you call that website?
Photos by Tyler.
I guess, yes.
Short and sweet.
I'm going to punch you in your face.
Alright, Rich, you got anything you want to plug?

Is that all? I think that's it.

I know.
I don't want to make people angry.
No, that's it.

They're very available.
I'm going to assume they are.

My plug?
I got three plugs.

No.
You should have asked that.
Josh, you missed your chance.
Anything that you know you shouldn't say is going to sell great.
Oh, yeah, you should say it.
