what's up everybody welcome back to active life radio on the shrugged collective network
i'm dr sean pastuch i'm your host and today's episode is a unique one what we're doing today
is we're bringing you inside of one of the propath workshops that we put on to teach gym owners and their coaches
how to become the healthcare clinic of the future and the healthcare provider of the future,
respectively. If you listened to the episode about our mission statement and our vision for
the future, you know that we believe the future of healthcare begins in the gym.
We have gyms who are going through the process of becoming those facilitators of the future with us
in what we call our pro path. Their coaches are learning how to assess and correct all of the
common issues that come up in gyms. And the problem that we see with most of the programs out there now
who are mentoring and developing gyms into being successful businesses
is the same problem that we see with society in general.
And what I mean by that is we see companies helping companies, gyms or companies,
and their staff, coaches, try to improve their business by focusing on the tactics
that comprise that business. What do I mean by that? They start looking at things like,
what are your bottom lines?
What is your top line?
How much money did you spend last year?
How much money did you make last year?
How much money is the average client worth?
How much are you paying your coaches?
What percent of revenue is that?
I want to be clear, this is not going to be a business podcast today.
It is a human podcast today.
All of those metrics that these other companies do with the gyms who they work with are relevant.
They are relevant.
They are important.
They are even necessary to know and understand. believe every single company who we've worked with a client of is missing is they are not
primary. They're not primary. What that means is that these things, these revenue numbers,
these lead generation numbers, these staff figures, these goals, these projections,
all of these things that are believed in so many cases
to be primary, meaning they're the thing. If you figure these things out, your business goes well.
If you figure these things out, your life goes well. All of the people preaching that
to other people, I believe are missing what is truly primary. I believe they're missing purpose.
Purpose.
What is the reason that you chose to do this in the first place?
What is the reason that it is so important to you to do well?
What is the reason that you would rather struggle in this profession than go take a job working in another one, making more money
and getting more respect from your friends, family, and peers. Why do you keep doing this?
And what's blocking you in this from making money? Why aren't you making money? Everybody knows if they increase their gym price by 10%,
they would make 10% more money if everybody stayed.
Everyone's afraid of the people who are going to leave.
They're afraid of how they're going to make people feel
if they increase their prices.
There's so much in all of these decisions
that comes from our backgrounds, that comes from our belief system, that comes from the things that when put together create our purpose. you are going to see here how we help the gym owners and coaches who we work with in our ProPath
internalize, personalize, and make real their purpose.
This is how we start each ProPath workshop.
The story in each one is a little bit different,
but the premise is the same.
Make it real.
What I'm going to recommend to you
is before you decide to listen to this podcast right now,
if you're driving, if you're cooking, if you're doing something that is not idly sitting and listening to this podcast, I strongly recommend you pause it and you come back to it. podcast is a breathing exercise that we took everybody at the workshop through,
layered with a thought experiment that we took everybody through. You are not going to be able to do the breathing exercise and the thought experiment if your mind is even a little bit
distracted. You will still get something out of the show.
It just won't be all of it.
So again, my recommendation to you is this is the episode to listen to
when you're able to lie in bed by yourself,
lay on the floor by yourself,
sit in a comfortable chair by yourself,
and go through this as if you were in the room with us.
That's where all the value is going to be on this one.
Before we get to it, I want to remind you that if what you hear on this show is compelling to you,
if you feel like we're the kind of company who you would like to work with,
head to ActiveLifeRx.com slash shrugged.
We would love to see if the aches and pains that you're dealing with are aches and pains
that we can help you get over.
You know, you are the person who we want to help.
If you've been told you have to work out around it, you know, you're, you're getting too old
for this.
You just have to deal with that.
If you've heard those things, if you feel like you embody those things
and they frustrate you every time you hear them,
they make you go,
we want to work with you.
Also, if you're a gym owner or a coach,
we have a lot of opportunities to help you level up.
Start thinking the way that the people who take our courses think start thinking the way that the people who take our
courses think and succeed the way that the people who take our courses succeed. We're not for
everybody. We are for the people who want to work with us and there is nobody better in the world
at helping you learn how to help people get out of pain,
get out of their own heads,
and get fit and stay that way for the rest of their lives
without going to the doctor, without medications,
and without missing the gym or their active lifestyle.
And we're going to teach you how to make money doing it.
If you're interested in that, head to ActiveLifeProfessional.com.
Now I'm going to get you guys to Larry Geyer,
who was on the show with me last week, so you know Larry.
He presents this part of the workshop.
I believe he does an exceptional job.
I look forward to hearing what you think of it.
Follow along. Let's turn pro together.
Anyone find that they arrived at seven and they're like, oh, I should have just
looked at number one and just did that. There were a couple of those. Sometimes
Mitch and I were talking about just writing it down kind of helps you there. Cool.
Was it obvious to anyone and was it totally a surprise to anyone else did some of you guys
who found it super obvious like oh this is the thing got it they don't have to spend a little
more time thinking about it okay cool as soon as the bath bathroom attendees if i can call them
that are back we are going to do an extremely powerful exercise that is going to
send us into this, send us in a really, really strong way. Unlike most exercise, there's not
going to be a recovery period. It is going to be immediately, instantly beneficial, which is cool
because we don't have to worry about taking days off. It's just going to be hit this and rock and roll.
The purpose of this exercise,
the purpose of this exercise is to get us extremely focused,
clear, and grounded
in what we're doing here.
The way we are going to do that is the following.
We are going to be lying on the floor here.
We're going to create some space.
I am going to lead you with your eyes closed
through some visualization, through some scenarios.
There is another tool that I'm going to help you guys use
to make this extremely effective.
We are going to use three different kinds of breath
that are going to accompany some of
the visual visualizations that we have one of those breaths is going to be up regulatory
and extremely energizing you guys might also find it extremely emotional i went to a breath work
class about four weeks ago four minutes in i was crying like a five-year-old girl. I don't even know why. It just happened. So it might be simple resistance of like, this is hard and I
want to just go get water and I do not really want to deal with this. It might be like the time that
you got bullied when you were 10 comes up and you just, whatever. So it can be any one of those.
I'm just letting you guys know. It might not might not be either fine The second kind of breath is down regulatory and it's to allow you guys to come back relax chill digest
What's going on and just absorb kind of bask a little bit cool. The third one is going to be a combination
I'm, sorry, it's going to be in between those two so it's not going to be as powerful
But it's not going to be off
It's just going to be to kind of bring you back to steady and smooth and establish
An even tone that you guys can take into this day by the end of this It's not going to be off. It's just going to be to kind of bring you back to steady and smooth and establish an
even tone that you guys can take into this day.
By the end of this, you guys should have an extremely powerful picture in your head of
why you are here, whom you are doing it for, and what your impact is going to be.
This is to remind you guys and refocus you guys
on what you are getting out of this weekend.
That's what this is for.
It's very easy to show up to a thing
and just go through the motions.
I want you guys to be extremely connected
and connected to and motivated by what's about to happen.
Cool?
If we can keep that big frame,
everything that we do in here is going to be more meaningful.
I'm going to show you guys, with Dr. Ryan as my demo, what breath might look like.
You know what? Let's make our way to our feet and let's go where we're going to be on the floor.
Dr. Ryan's going to be in the middle.
So the way we're going to be laid out is as such.
We're going to make this nice little crescent shape.
Feet are going to be towards the chairs.
Heads are going to be outside.
For now, all you guys need to do is watch. All right, can I have you on your back, please?
Eyes are closed. Legs can be straight or feet can be bent, however you feel comfortable, okay?
I want you guys to gently tilt your heads back, okay? One hand on your chest, one hand on your
belly. First and foremost, I need you guys to make sure that you guys know how to breathe into your stomach. That's it. For efficacy and for benefit,
keep it in your bellies. Cool? If you guys are struggling, just breathe. It's all good.
Breath number one, the up breath. Okay? So if I say up breath, here's your cue. It is going to be
very, very powerful in through your mouth. Suck into your belly for a three count. Relaxed
and easy. One second out. Big, powerful, strong adult on the in-breath. Little kid relaxed off
on the out-breath. Just let it fall. Pull it in hard. Let it fall out. Cool. It's going to happen
through your mouth. Down-breath is going to be the opposite. it's going to be get it comfortably full in a one count
take three seconds to let it go out this is going to have a very opposite effect
very opposite effect you guys are going to find this very very quickly gets you extremely relaxed
compared to where you just were cool down breath is one in, three seconds out. Breath number three is going to be even to in and out
to whatever feels comfortably full and empty for you guys.
I don't want you trying to suck it to a point that might be the right thing.
Just get comfortably full in two seconds.
Get comfortably out in two seconds.
Cool?
Let's find our spot so let's practice
some reps here. Alright, make sure that you guys have a little bit of space, you
guys arms aren't going to be out so you don't need too much space. I just want to
make sure that you can all hear me. So ideally we're not too spread and I'm
gonna be yelling. Okay, find yourself on your back with your eyes closed. Let's practice some reps for
up breath. First and foremost, one hand on chest, one hand on belly. I don't care which hand that
is for you. I just need whatever hand is going to be sensitive to your belly rising and falling
on your belly. Cool? Let's practice up breath.
That's a hard three in with a soft out.
Practice five reps.
Go.
Heads tilted back slightly.
Breathe in through your mouth.
It's going to be much more powerful.
Forcefully in for three.
Soft and easy out for one.
A couple more reps here.
Okay, we're going to switch to down breath.
This is going to be one in, comfortably not powerfully, comfortably one in, three out.
You can even make it two in, three out.
There's nothing rushed.
There's nothing forceful.
And a few breaths.
You guys should feel very different than you did for the first five.
Three more of those.
One in, three out.
Let it fall. Let yourself fall. Okay. Breath three is our evening out breath. We're going to end with this. This is comfortably full for you.
Three more reps.
Okay.
Everyone feel alright?
I have blankets.
I have bottles of warm milk.
You guys are going to be good. We're going to hand those out to you in a second.
So I'm going to lead you through some situations here.
What we are going to do is I'm going to give you the cue to start your up breath.
I'm going to let you get five reps on your own to establish yourself in the rhythm and
then I'm going to start reading.
And I need you guys to use every sense you have
to imagine it.
The efficacy of this,
the outcome of this,
the result of this,
is entirely contingent upon your capacity
to put yourself in the emotionally powerful place
as you can visualize it.
All you guys.
And guess what?
No one knows what's going on inside, so go for it. All you guys. And guess what? No one knows what's going on inside.
So go for it.
Cool?
Up breath. Off you go.
Powerfully in for
three. Let it fall out for one. everybody starts with the best case scenario in mind.
Think back to when you started your gym.
You probably knew exactly how many members you needed to have before you were making money.
You probably knew what kinds of workouts you were going to write and what kinds of people you were going to attract.
You were going to make friends. You were going to live in an awesome house.
Your kids were going to come play at the gym with other kids from other members
you'd have created a thriving community
community was much more than just a word
powerfully in for three
out for one
20 more breaths at your own tempo
please bear that picture in mind.
How was it before you got started? Imagine that picture of perfection as you designed it in your head.
Powerfully in for three.
Soft out for one.
Okay, guys.
Down breath.
Comfortably in for one, long and easy out for three.
This can be in through your nose and out through your mouth if you prefer. comfortably in for one, long, easy out for three.
With any grand endeavor
comes challenge.
Your numbers perhaps don't line up anymore
because with each member
comes a cost
that you didn't fully understand.
The staff, whose vision you believe aligned perfectly with yours, has begun to stray. The workouts that you planned in order
to help your members reach their dreams have become a point of contention among them. The roof leaks, the toilet clogs, and two members of your gym
hate each other, and the community becomes fractured. When these kinds of things happen,
it could knock any person off of center.
It requires a strong sense of purpose, clarity of vision, self-awareness, and constant growth in order to come to exactly the place that you would like to be.
Five more of these breaths.
Okay, my friends, up breath.
Powerfully in for three, gently out for one.
We're going to shift gears big time here.
Five reps on your own,
and then we're going to bring this home.
Powerfully in.
I know that you guys like working out,
and I know you guys have effort,
so apply it here.
Okay.
Now, I need you guys to imagine the person in your life
whom it is most important to make proud.
Sit with that.
The person in your life whom it is most important to make proud.
Why?
Why?
Reflect on why it's so important
for this person to be proud of you.
Hard breaths.
Now,
imagine them with you
at your gym.
What are the things they notice?
How are the weights organized?
Are the members friendly with each other?
Are they smiling?
Does the coach look energized and focused?
Is the floor clean?
What do they hear when you walk them through your gym?
Are members coming to say hello?
Better yet, what are the members of your gym coming up to the person whom you want to be most proud and saying to them?
What are members telling this person about what it is like to be a part
of your gym?
Is the
coach commanding the room
with finesse and poise?
Are people
staying after to socialize?
Are they inviting each other to each
other's house?
Are you hearing I love you's?
What do they smell when they walk through?
Is the bathroom fresh?
What's the scent?
Is the air well circulated in your gym?
How do they feel when you walk them through?
Are they welcome?
Are they inspired?
Are they proud? Are they proud?
Down breath. This is how you and everyone else should feel walking into your gym every single time.
Going forward this weekend, remember that this is possible if you apply yourself.
The impact you can have is massive.
I need you to take
one thought with you,
one realization,
if you permit.
That's the following.
You're not here for you.
This is not about you. This never was and it never the following. You're not here for you. This is not about you.
This never was
and it never will be.
There is tremendous liberation
in that if you accept it.
Your impact is bigger
as soon as that becomes true.
Ten more breaths
at your own pace.
We're on break for two minutes
after you finish that
and you guys are going to be the best gym owners in the world. 10 more breaths at your own pace. We're on break for two minutes after you finish that.
And you guys are going to be the best gym owners in the world.
