What I want to talk about today is the current events of last weekend
and how it affected me
and how I responded with an email to my staff
because I think that this is something
that anybody out there could find value
in thinking about.
This weekend, Kobe Bryant and his daughter and seven other people died in a helicopter crash.
Now, I don't know Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bryant doesn't know me.
I don't know his daughter, and the other seven people on that flight have no idea who I am. So why did it affect me at all that
a stranger who I used to watch play basketball has died? And as I thought about it, what
I came to realize was that the whole thing, the whole incidence of it, first and foremost, you feel like you know that person because you've watched them grow and play sports and evolve over the last 20 years.
That's the first thing is that you feel like somebody
of that status
of those means
in that health
you just don't see that coming
and what I want to remind you guys
is that
we never know when it's coming for us
if Kobe Bryant in all of his glory We never know when it's coming for us.
If Kobe Bryant, in all of his glory, can die on a Sunday, so can we.
So can you.
So can I.
And when that started to kind of sink in, as I heard the news on Sunday,
it was almost like,
man, I know that guy.
I can't believe he died.
I don't know that guy, though.
But it's because you have the familiarity with him that it becomes a bigger deal, right?
If it was nine people died in a helicopter crash,
you'd be like, oh, that's sad. And you go on with your day. When it's somebody who you feel like
you know, it's different. Gives you an opportunity to reflect a little bit. So what I did this
morning, every Monday morning, I'm recording this on Monday, 27th.
Every Monday morning, I send an email to my staff talking to them about the successes that we had last week.
Who did something outstanding?
I named them by name.
What we need to do if we're going to be successful going forward.
Send that email every Monday. And this Monday, I wanted to make absolutely clear to my team that the events of this past weekend helped
me to understand that sometimes all of us, myself in particular, we need to slow down we need to appreciate what we have
who's in our life
what our health is
we need to appreciate those things
so I messaged my team this morning
and let them know
I want to let you guys know
that as much as you work for active life,
active life works for you. If we do our job well as a company, because you're a part of this company,
everything in your life has an opportunity to be better. And because everything in your life has an opportunity to be better,
your contribution to this company will be better.
And the impact that this company can have on the world will be better. and all of that opportunity starts with us slowing down from time to time
to appreciate who and what we have in our lives.
I don't know you guys.
Most of you guys probably don't know me.
And with this being my last show on this network,
I wanted to make sure that it was more about us as people
and how we're the same
than it is about how any people are any different from one another. I wanted to stop
for a moment and instead of focusing on where you want to go, like all the other shows on this
episode do, I wanted to focus on where you're at, what that means, what that took, who's around you, how did you get there?
It could all be gone today. Today.
So this is my plea to you hug the people who you love
tell the people who you love
that you love them
tell the people who you appreciate
that you appreciate them
send a random text to somebody today telling them how much you appreciate them
and call somebody else out of the blue just to thank them.
If you have kids, hug them a little bit longer.
If you're married, let your spouse know how much you appreciate them and why.
That's all. Keeping it short for you guys today.
It's been awesome being a part of your world on the Shrugged Collective Network for the last seven months.
This show does not have to end.
