All right, ladies and gentlemen, it's Tuesday, which means it's time for another Real Chalk
Podcast.
Hopefully your favorite day of the week.
I am sitting down with an old school friend, the man that's behind the scenes of so many
different brands, also has developed and how would you say this?
Like co-founded and basically gave birth to some cool shit. Yeah. Yeah. Which I think is
really cool because I remember when I first met you, you had opened or you had started a brand
called Flavor God, which was just a massive, massive brand. Yeah. And it also like just kind
of took over what I thought was food on Instagram. Yeah. We pretty much, yeah, we pretty much hammered
away on, on social media. We, we pretty much hammered away on social media.
We pretty much took over Instagram with our spices and people thought we were
crazy because they're like, how are you going to sell spices
on Instagram when I can just go to the store?
But little did they know
we did and we sold a lot of them.
But it was like pretty much anything that anybody was eating at any
time was always
supersetted with Flavor God.
100%. Like every photo, every hot chick in the world
was part of flavor god it was like everywhere every athlete every influencer yeah it was
literally insane i actually was dating a girl at the time that literally just traveled around with
it it was like always in her purse yeah and she'd be like i'm gonna take a photo real quick and make
250 dollars i was like okay what yeah you're You're like $250. You're like, wait a second. You're paying for your car with a, with a, with a spicy season. Yeah. No. Yeah. It was crazy. So that literally
is what blew my mind because when I had moved to California, I mean, Instagram didn't exist yet.
It wasn't like a thing. Right. And then basically, you know, I started getting really good at
CrossFit and then there was people in CrossFit who started Instagrams and they were like, oh, Ryan, you got to do this. Like, this is what, this is what's
cool. And I was like, well, I already had a MySpace. I already have a Facebook. Like I'm
tired of like another social media stream. Right. So I wasn't really like into it. And then I
remember people, you know, all of a sudden some people got like cars. Like, yeah, I remember Audi
like sponsored somebody and was like, here's a car that you can just, you know, drive around in this and post it. And I was like, wow, this Instagram thing is like
for real. Yeah. And then I opened my gym after a series of events, which a lot of you guys out
there know. Um, and then from being in the gym, I had met someone who was on something called
shreds. Yep. This is Nikki, actually, for those of you who've listened to memories of my ex-girlfriend i know nikki well yeah so um basically after meeting nikki
she was telling me if she had moved here for this brand called shreds right and then i looked into
it and i was like oh wow this is like a really big thing oh yeah and then as i was looking into it i
was like oh they all live in this place that's like $10,000 a month for these apartments.
And I'm like – and then they're all taking photos in like these rooms that have like never existed to me.
They're like all white and they're like overlooking these –
Yeah, all granite countertops.
Glass windows.
All glass windows, everything.
Yeah, that was a high rise actually over here in Orange County.
I was actually one of the first employees for Shreds.
So Shreds got big enough to where it was
like 150, 200 employees deep in New Jersey. I actually moved to New Jersey for a year.
So that's where I'm from.
Yeah, dude. Actually, I think I knew that. I was like, wait, I'm pretty sure he's an East Coast
kid. I moved there with Devin. So Devin physique, right? He was like my best friend. Back in like
2014, I met him. We were actually both working at a restaurant down here in Newport Beach.
It's called Flying Fish.
It just opened.
Amazing food.
Wait, so you moved here and worked at a restaurant in Newport?
I didn't know that.
Yeah, yeah.
I was living with Devin over here in Huntington, but I worked in Newport.
Devin was actually my busser.
So I was actually Devin's boss.
And then, like you said, you moved here, and Instagram was like a thing.
Yeah.
And Devin got onto Instagram probably the same time like you did.
And he just started posting his abs, dude.
And he started posting his workouts.
And sure enough, he just started growing a little bit each month, you know, five, 10K
people a month.
And he was like, yo, I'm quitting.
I'm like, okay, like, what are you going to do?
He's like, I'm just going to post pics on Instagram.
I'm like, okay, cool.
So as long as you can pay your half of the rent, bro, that's, that's fine.
So yeah, Devin and I lived in Huntington and then we and then um Shreds got so big that um the owner of Shreds Arvin he actually
flew us out and moved us out to Jersey City uh that was back in 2004 July of 2014 yeah so that's
2014 so was there any did you know anybody else at the time who was creating a career out of just
like Instagram uh just like people that Devin had communicated with through the team,
like your Paige Hathaway, your Joey Swoles, like Nikki, Brittany,
all those like the main people that were on treads.
Like those are the people that I actually knew who were actually creating careers,
but that was just through supplements.
Like obviously you had like other influencers that you saw like on the popular page
at the time where you're like, oh.
Which doesn't exist anymore.
Right.
Which makes it really hard to grow now.
Right.
Yeah.
Everything is algorithm-based.
Yeah.
It's crazy.
How does someone find out what the new algorithm is?
That's always been interesting to me.
That is so hard because I do it with her, with Lacey, Lacey K. Summers.
We've been – it's a challenge every every instagram is constantly changing their
algorithms to monetize it but also figure out how to um get people to see what they really want to
see um it's just it's just crazy dude instagram it is if i feel like if you're trying to get
popular on instagram now like you've kind of missed the boat like it's hard to start a profile
from nothing now unless you have a massive media like marketing budget yeah so i mean i in the beginning i was just posting stuff
because i just thought it was cool right like right i was out with my family on a vacation
or it's just like very very basic stuff i didn't really ever think about it as something that could
actually make enough money to live yeah and now people are doing all sorts of crazy things but
like what do you think some of the biggest tips would be right now for people who are trying to start fresh and are trying to
make it big now? Um, focus on your content. Like that's like the main thing that I, that I stress
to people is like so many people are spending a lot of money on advertising, but they're advertising
like shit content. You know what I mean? Like they're not investing in a video guy. They're
not investing in a full-time photographer. If you want to be taken seriously as an influencer that was something i
did recently as i have a photographer so how much easier is your life now yeah i mean like pretty
much every photo every video yeah it's done for you could be promoted if i wanted right because
and now you're i've looked at your page like your your content has has completely like gotten so
much better um over the last year and's, you can tell it's because
you're putting more resources behind it. You know what I mean? It's, it's the people who,
you know, they want to, you know, they want to be big on social media, but they don't want to invest
in their own brand. You know what I mean? Like, they'd rather say they don't have the marketing
budget to give to a video guy or a photo guy. What could they do? Yeah, I mean, just do the
best you can. I mean, with, you know, how do you build anything without a budget or the right tools?
Focus on your message.
Focus on your personal branding.
I think that's good.
Yeah, exactly.
Like your message would be hard work.
You know what I mean?
Like one look at your page, like you can tell like, all right, this guy works hard.
He's a gym owner.
He's promoting health and wellness.
He's promoting like positivity. Like focus on health and wellness. He's promoting positivity.
Focus on your identity and your branding, and that's really going to help you.
What do you think about people who are like, but there's so many people in my space, and they get all kind of bummed on it?
Yeah.
Because, I mean, there's a million people in my space.
Right, but you're still making a living.
I still do really well.
If you're good enough at what you do, you'll separate yourself from the pack. So even if it's a very saturated market, if you focus enough time on your craft and what you're doing,
eventually you're going to get good enough to where people are going to start to notice you.
And that's ultimately what happens.
You just have to do things differently.
You have to look at what someone else is doing, what works for them, tweak it a little bit, and do it for yourself.
So when you first got on the team with shreds yeah you were like a marketing manager yeah so i i came on as
like a like a sales sales guy since i have a like a restaurant sales background so i was a manager
and a server and i i could just sell you anything like food wine beverages anything so i was brought
onto the sales team and then they needed a lot of help with social media because they were just
taking over social media i mean you saw it so i remember when i first talked to
you're like the first person that i ever talked to at the time yeah who just sounded like you knew
like exactly how to market on instagram yep so i remember like talking i think i come over to your
place yeah when i was dating nikki at the time yeah and you were like i'll never forget like
like one of the first things you said to me you were were like, oh, Instagram's for selfies and food.
Yeah.
And I remember you just saying it super confident.
And then you're like, and then this and then that.
And then I remember just the first day that I met you, I was like, he said a lot of good shit that I'm going to remember for a long time.
Yeah.
And then I remember you had started the Flavor God thing.
And then pretty much everything that you were touching was getting a lot of exposure.
Yeah.
So I feel like you have a lot of good things to say in that area when it comes to building a brand.
Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah.
So Instagram is very visual, right?
Twitter is all about what you're saying and your thoughts.
I've actually never used it ever.
We don't use it either.
I don't even understand it.
Yeah.
I mean, it's just basically to talk shit.
That's all it is.
Articles are now written on people talking shit on Twitter, going back and forth and like who's the person who's on twitter though who is that person
i mean there's celebrities that are on twitter every day just like i mean with the people who
are listening to and watching it and following it i don't know these are like the super stalkers
right yeah i have to be because i don't go on twitter yeah i just don't care like what people
it's like every single move you make yeah right yeah it's it's like it's like hey i'm gonna be
i don't yeah i know because i don't get instagram like you take your time on your content right like It's like every single move you make. Yeah. Right? Yeah. It's like, hey, I'm going to be – yeah, I know.
Because with Instagram, like you take your time on your content, right?
Like you dial in a post and you're like, all right, this is my sick-ass caption.
I got my edits.
I got my music's right on my video.
With Twitter, it's just like, hey, I'm taking a shit.
Like literally.
Yeah.
I hate this restaurant that I would – like you would never put that on Instagram, right?
But Twitter is just like everyone's like
thoughts
and it's crazy
like I don't
I mean
obviously Twitter
is very prominent
in today's social media
and there's still
a lot of people
using it
one thing that
Twitter is
one thing that is
cool about them
is they don't
censor anything
have you ever
noticed that
you can say
and post whatever
you want
Instagram you post
something that's
against their guidelines
oh your account's gone like they'll take you down Twitter they don't want. Instagram, you post something that's against their guidelines. Oh, your account's gone.
They'll take you down.
Twitter, they don't give a fuck what you post, dude.
It's crazy.
You could literally go on there and be posting the most raunchy shit.
They'll let you leave it up.
That's just part of their terms and conditions.
They don't censor free speech at all.
All right, well, maybe that's why they're doing so well still.
Yeah.
Because that doesn't make –
Everything else is – think about every other platform.
It's all censored. Like snapchat you post something crazy taken down
facebook taken down instagram taken down snapchat still something you use oh yeah really yeah that's
huge with like younger millennials man if you got a product or a brand where you're trying to hit
like the younger demographic like the 18 to 22 oh yeah snapchat is big oh yeah damn it's because
as soon as the videos came on instagram, I was like, fuck this.
Right, right.
I don't want to do this anymore.
Plus all the followers that I had on Instagram, it was like they instantly were watching my videos.
Exactly.
Yeah.
Snapchat stories is massive.
Yeah.
It's crazy.
I know.
I know.
But I'm glad that you took some of that, what I said when we first met.
Oh, yeah.
Dude, I –
And you were like, oh, okay.
All right.
There's a couple things in my life that people have said to me that I've never forgotten.
Yeah.
So, like, one of those things, it's a couple things in my life that people have said to me that I've never forgotten. Yeah. So one of those things,
it's interesting enough,
my track coach in high school,
he told me,
if you're going to eat something really bad today,
our entire practice,
it never happened.
Yeah.
I don't care how hard you work today,
if you eat something shitty today,
when you go home,
the whole practice is over.
Forget about it.
It's over.
Which is complete horse shit,
but from that day, I was like 13,
dude. And I never ate unhealthy ever again. It literally like, which explains a lot. Yeah. Like
I was terrified instantly of soda. You're like no more Taco Bell. Yeah. I was like
instantly terrified of so many things. Yeah. And then I remember when I got older, I was like
18 or 19 and I was working out in a 24-hour fitness and there was this huge guy there uh he
played for i want to say like the bangles or something and i was living in hawaii at the time
and i was every this guy was on vacation but for like 10 days he's like i'll meet me back here like
tomorrow this time we'll work out yeah i was like oh cool it got cool and then um i remember asking
him like one thing i was like if there's like one thing you could tell me to like get super jack like
you like what would it be and he's like like one thing you could tell me to like get super jacked like you,
like what would it be?
And he's like, every single thing you put in your body has a purpose.
Yep.
Like don't eat something if it doesn't have a purpose like at that moment.
Yep.
Like if you're getting done working out, there's a certain thing you eat.
If you woke up in the morning, there's a certain thing you eat.
If you're going to bed, there's a certain thing you eat.
Look at every single thing as if it's going to do something for you at that time.
Right.
And like I never forgot that either.
Yep. And then with social media, I'd say you're the social media guy for me to do something for you at that time. Right. And like, I never forgot that either. Yep.
And then with social media,
I'd say you're the social media guy for me.
That helped a lot at the moment.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean,
you took it seriously.
Like same thing with,
you took your,
from 13,
you started taking your health seriously and it shows like you're,
you look like a freak.
I always tell,
I always tell Lacey,
like every time I see your shit,
I'm like,
dude,
he is a freak of nature.
I think you're just jacked.
My favorite comment from a lot of people is I was on John and Natalie's podcast recently.
Yeah.
And John introduced me as, like, the most consistent person he's, like, ever met.
He's like, you know, he's like, I know a lot of fucking ridiculously jacked dudes and ripped dudes or really strong or really fit or whatever.
But, like, they always go in cycles of, like, what they look like.
He's like, you, like, consistently have looked good since i've known you yeah and i've never consistently looked
exactly the same an off season yeah an off season doesn't exist for you like you never slack
i get stressed about that shit i'm like dude i make money on this this is it right here yeah
you gotta keep it as long as you can look good naked 24 7 always always so once you're getting into this business right and
then now like pretty big amounts of money start to come into the into frame yeah which is crazy
um well especially going from a server's salary yeah to like you know owning a multi-million
dollar company and being a co-founder and being involved in you know a lot of different things
yeah a lot of money started coming in.
So like, what was like your first thing that you like thought of when it started to come in?
You're like, I want to buy a Lambo or are you like, no, I don't really care.
I'm just going to reinvest it or whatever.
Devin got the Lambo.
I actually, I actually bought, uh, my grandfather a Corvette.
That was his like dream car.
He still has it.
I bought him a Dodger blue Corvette.
Um, that was like like it's on my instagram
still um i remember that probably at chad mcbain um uh yeah that was in like 2015 i bought him a
corvette um and then after that i bought myself a ford raptor a brand new truck i remember the red
one yeah the red one it was awesome which actually ended up selling joey because he wanted it and he
didn't have a truck and i was like he just bought a new one. Oh, he did? Yeah. It's like a big gray one.
Oh, I love it.
I love it.
Yeah.
So I'm big into cars and trucks and everything.
And then I ended up buying myself an Audi.
Traded that in.
Yeah.
I don't know.
With my money, I use it on travel.
I've been all over.
Same.
You know what I mean?
A lot of people buy material shit buy, you know, material shit.
And that's cool, like, if that's your thing.
Like, go buy a designer handbag.
But I'd rather take three grand and go to Europe.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
I feel like I wanted all those things.
And then once I started to make the money, I was like, ah.
You're like, do I need it, though?
I don't really need it.
You're like, no, I'm chilling.
I'll keep my same bag.
But it's nice to know.
I can have it.
Right, yeah.
It's different.
Like, when you can't afford something, you want it really bad.
But then when you can't afford it, it's like a thing in your mind switches to go, okay, do I really want it though?
Or did I just want it because people want what they can't have, right?
And that goes for pretty much everything in life.
Like you want what somebody else has.
You want what you can't have.
And then the moment you can actually get that and you can obtain something that you've always wanted, you of have second thoughts about it like shit i did girlfriend ever had exactly i love it dude i
love right every single one oh my god i know right so but yeah it's like my mission to sleep with him
after i break up like i have to do this in 10 seconds and you're like oh i fucked up yeah
yeah you fucked up yeah no, I pretty much traveled.
I didn't buy a lot of stuff.
I took care of my family.
I took care of my girl.
You know what I mean?
Like we paid off a lot of debt.
And yeah, things were going good at that time.
That was like 2015, 16.
I remember you telling me like, oh, yeah, like I could sell the company right now for like $20 million or something.
But you're like trying to hold out for like $200 million or something like that.
Yeah, we were talking about it.
We were talking about it. something like we were talking about it yeah
nothing ever nothing ever happened um yeah it's you know it's it's still going today um i'm not
really actually as hands-on with flavor god um i haven't been for like two years so i kind of like
took a took a step back and i've been focusing on other things um the other the other owners of
flavor god are running it and they're doing their thing so i actually haven't had any part of it for like two years or shreds or any of that.
So I was going to say, so how did all of that like kind of unfold like with Flavor God and,
and, and yeah, I think, I don't know if a lot of people actually even understand how
shreds even unfolded.
Yeah.
Um, or how maybe you came out of the Flavor God situation.
A lot of people don't really know who you are cause you're like the man behind the scenes
that built the whole thing, kind of,
which I think is really, really cool.
Yeah.
I didn't take any credit publicly ever for anything.
Which I think is interesting.
I wonder how often that happens.
Like for how many brands?
A lot.
A lot.
There's a lot of moving parts to a lot of different brands.
Think about your gym.
You probably have people in place
that do a lot of the work here that make this gym run
but everybody knows it's ryan and chalk actually for me i actually do everything that's amazing
it's gnarly that's so you don't have any like you don't have any employees that like really pick up
a lot of the i have someone that helps me with billing and that's it oh i make all the posts
so not chalk all right so let's think of another business. But yeah, I'm falling asleep.
Yeah, I know.
Right.
No, there's a lot of there's a lot of companies where people are behind the scenes.
I just never I don't know.
I never wanted to take credit.
I never wanted to be a face of anything.
I enjoy being a guy behind the scenes who isn't in the public eye, who really just likes to make shit work like that.
That's my passion.
My passion is taking an idea and blowing it up into something crazy.
Like flavor God was like an idea and it was in a one car garage with,
um,
a guy I knew who was the,
who was the face of it,
which was Chris.
Um,
and I basically just like,
is he still the owner?
Yeah.
Yeah.
He's still,
he's still a face.
He's still one of the sole owners.
And I basically like,
I,
I,
I approached him.
I was like,
yo,
let me help you on Instagram,
blah,
blah,
blah. And he was like, well, I don help you on Instagram, blah, blah, blah.
And he was like, well, I don't know what Instagram is because he's like 15 years older than me.
He's got to be in his 40s.
But he just didn't know what it was.
So I basically – we created him one and then we started doing some content and some advertising.
And all of a sudden, boom, took over the food industry on Instagram.
So that basically happened.
But you were like Arvin's kind of right-hand man for a little while yeah yeah for sure i was like yeah who's the
ceo of shreds yeah uh still is today what were some of the big things that you learned from him
um just to be consistent with your your strategy strategizing and and and really just like um
because i always think of him as like he's like one of the first people to ever –
Yeah, he was one of the first guys –
Turn Instagram into like a –
And to monetize it.
Into like a crazy, crazy business.
Crazy business.
Yeah, I mean he was – at the time, like a couple years ago, he was feeding a lot of families, dude.
Like with his business platform and his strategies and his product, like he was –
What did it break down to?
He was making like daily for a little while?
I don't know, dude.
Hundreds of thousands.
It was crazy.
Like a day?
Yeah, it was crazy.
Oh, yeah.
Shreds was probably at one point
a $50 million a year company, at least,
which is like $5 million a month.
That's $60 million.
Yeah, he was doing well.
It was like $4 million.
I mean, if I had to guess.
I don't know.
The sales numbers.
My only thing about him is every time I ever met him,
he was just literally glued to his phone. I don't know. The sales numbers. My only thing about him is every time I ever met him, he was just literally glued to his phone.
I don't think
he ever actually looked up.
He didn't live outside
of his devices.
So I wonder if that's,
is it worth it or not
at that point?
Probably not.
I have times where I'm like,
fuck this, man.
I need a month off,
but I can't
because everything
will fall apart.
Right.
And then I'm like,
oh my God,
I start freaking out.
And then I'm like, so you're just I start freaking out. And then I'm like –
So you're just responsible for yourself.
He was responsible for like 150 employees.
Yeah.
So that's why he never took a break from his devices.
Yeah.
He always looked like good spirits to me.
Like when I saw him, but he just looked like number two from like the old member.
You know what I mean?
He just was like –
Yeah. very no emotion
monotone just no jokes nothing yeah yeah no yeah i learned a few things from him um and then like i
kind of i kind of branched off and did my own thing with flavor god and and really just kind of
um ran my own show and um you know went to him for advice every once in a while and marketing stuff and social media advertising.
But yeah, I mean he was ahead of the curve
when it came to really monetizing social media
because now there's a supplement company everywhere.
Well, I think everyone's trying to do what he did.
Right.
Everybody's trying to recreate.
But you can't now because Instagram changes algorithms
and influencers don't have as much influence,
I guess you could say, with conversions and convincing people to buy stuff that they can
get at the store and stuff like that.
So if you were a giant company like Shreds or you were still running Flavor God from
beginning to end, what would you do differently now?
Oh, man.
To create just like more success and to kind of –
Like if I was starting a company now, what would I do differently?
No, if you got to start that one at the same time.
Oh, and do –
Because they both ended because of dumb things, right?
They didn't both – well, Flavor God is still going.
Flavor God is still going.
It's just not as crazy as it was.
I would –
To make yourself more bulletproof of getting screwed over.
Oh, yeah. Probably just be way more careful with who was in charge and making decisions and probably limit the people that were involved, I guess you could say.
Yeah.
Because the thing about when you have a company like that that's pretty big is a lot of people want to get their hands involved.
A lot of people want to be a part of the come up.
People see – this happens every day too.
People latch on to other people's success and they go, oh, I want to hang out with you.
I want to hang out with you.
I want to be a part of that.
Or they latch on to a company that's doing well and they want to be a part of it. I think back then we were just so open arms to everybody that wanted to be involved because we wanted to increase the brand awareness as much as possible.
But looking back, I would have had a very exclusive, like, no, you can't be a part of this right now.
Especially with the decision-making.
Influencers is fine.
But we had a lot of people that ended up coming in and making decisions.
And then people were bump heads.
I mean, I can't really go into like a lot of it,
but at the end of the day,
if I could do something differently,
I would have limited the people
that we got involved on the executive level for sure.
Okay.
Yeah.
And then that whole thing basically ended
because of athletes doing dumb shit.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's literally it.
That took down an entire empire.
Dude, that's the,
it's like you live by the sword,
you die by the sword, man. It's, you know, it it's people which is sad for the ceo like someone like arvin right
right but at the end of the day he you know what i mean like you kind of bring it on yourself like
like he kind of brought it on himself so um you can't really feel bad because he allowed people
to act and behave a certain way to where it that's why certain things happen because he didn't check people, right?
Like people were doing certain things and they were getting away with it.
You know what I mean?
And he didn't check them or he didn't have a serious talk with them.
He kind of just let people do what they wanted to do.
Do you think he didn't know what was going on or do you think he just kind of was like –
He knew it was going on.
Oh, okay. He knew it was going on.
He knew it was going on.
He just didn't want to say anything.
Yeah.
Yep.
But at the end of the day it's a learning experience and it's something that um is very valuable because
from that experience i've learned so much on like not to trust people like for that was like the
next thing i wanted to get into dude yeah so like you've had a couple bad things happen to you too
yeah yeah well especially like in business like with with those situations like i got you know i got screwed, you know, I got screwed out of, out of a couple of things and, um, I was behind a lot of things and, and, you know, some bad shit happened and, um, I've never publicly talked about it just cause I don't, you know, I'm not like, I'm and I've applied them to my life now and to my
future life. And I'm so much better prepared. Like I walk into a room and it's, I used to be very
naive and gullible and believe what someone says. And now it's like, prove it. You know what I mean?
You say, you say you can do something, prove it, show me. Instead of back then it was like, oh,
I can do this for you. Oh really? Okay, cool. Yeah. Let me, yeah, let me pay you. You know
what I mean? But now it's like, prove me like prove to me you can do something before I actually write you a check or prove to me you can do something before I actually partner with you.
You know what I mean?
It's like a perfect example.
If I met you off the street and you were like, yo, I want to open a gym, I'd be like, all right, get the gym open first.
Let's see how you do for the first couple months and then let me make sure that you're actually going to show up on time and run a gym before I give you $100,000.
You know what I mean?
You don't just partner with anybody
now that at least I don't. And until I see that they have either a proven business model,
a proven reputation, or they have references that I can, you know, fact check with and be like,
Hey, is this person really, you know, like I said, anybody that knows you, they'd be like,
Oh yeah, that guy shows up to work every day. Yeah. Even references now, I feel like are just
kind of shocked because I feel like a lot of people don't actually know what hard
work is no especially with social media everybody wants to do nothing and get paid i just don't yeah
i mean it's crazy dude i'm up every day at 5 a.m like there's other people that like sleep until
noon and they just want to do nothing but they want to live a luxurious lifestyle i think anybody
under 25 is like is fucked they're fucked dude like literally everybody
i know who's like under 25 they're like 20 it's literally like 23 like 22 to 24 out of college
they'll like want to video me or something and they're like bro how the why am i not making like
50 000 a month or something i'm like dude are you fucking kidding me exactly i'm 32 years old
i used to steal food from whole foods that didn't't have any money. Yeah. I slept on couches.
Like, I've completely ruined the inside of my body.
Like, injuries and such.
Like, trying to, like, go to these world championships.
You've gone hard.
And do all these things to myself.
And you want to get all this now?
Yeah.
Like, do you understand, like, what you have to do?
What this takes.
Like, the years, the preparation, and the hard, dude.
Yeah.
People don't have a concept of actual hard work.
They don't know what it means to actually get your hands dirty.
People see – and that's actually the problem with social media is people see the rewards on social media.
Somebody will post like, yo, just got a Lambo.
Sick.
But you don't see what they had to do to get that Lambo.
You don't see them driving the Honda or the Acura.
Or actually a lot of times it might not even be theirs.
Right, exactly. I was actually talking to lacy about this the other day it's like people are now going to their companies are now letting you do photo shoots the private jets
like that are just in a hangar and you can act like it's yours and you're and you can go on you
can take it like oh jet setting blah blah blah and then you just drive home you know what i mean
it's a joke dude it is a joke yeah it's funny but but yeah especially with social media it's people people see other
people have success or or what they perceive as success and they don't know that a lot goes into
that or it doesn't because it's fake so perception is reality that's facts i know it's crazy what you
can show on instagram make people
believe oh yeah and i feel like we're just in such a bubble in california like oh dude everybody
knows it's such a ridiculous yeah bubble of just like like what's it like bubble of bullshit for
those of you who like uh you're not sitting on my lap technically you can't see that lacy's in the
room as well but like what is it like now that you guys live in arizona is it like just such a
different vibe and then when you come back here like what do you feel like when you come back here?
Oh, yeah.
So Lacey and I have been together for a few years, going on like four and a half, five.
But we were living in Orange County for like three, four years.
Yeah, when we were living at the high rises over here with the Shreds team and everything.
We got a house in Arizona, and it is so much slower out there.
And no one gives a shit.
Like we just, we go and we just do our thing.
There's no drama.
No one's out there.
No one's competing with anybody.
You know what I mean?
Like she, she just drives around town, does her thing.
Like no one bothers her.
Like here it's like a constant competition.
Constant.
I feel like you could have like 25 to 50 million dollars in your pocket
here and like still want more yeah but like you've i've been to other places in the world like where
i'm just like oh i could probably have like a million bucks here and just be like separate
life yeah yeah whereas in california it's like it's fine enough money to get by for like a year
a year yeah with arizona everything is hot like think of arizona that's where i grew up and it
took me a while to get her to convince her to actually go out there for at least half of the year.
Everything is like a third of the cost.
A third.
Especially housing.
Especially housing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We just got a house.
Huge.
It would be worth 1.6, 1.7.
And we got it for a third of that.
Yeah.
So crazy.
And then.
So do you feel like when you come back here you're like
what does it feel or just we actually love it we love it here but it's like there's no like we uh
we actually uh we're getting a place in beverly hills this week yeah oh i remember you showing
me a photo of this insane place it's the same place yeah we've we've been lacy and i've been
doing pretty well you know we've been establishing some pretty crazy good relationships with a lot
of people and we've always treated people well.
And we've got good reputations.
And we just have people in our circle that are also very successful.
And she and I have like a team now.
And we're just doing some crazy big things.
So what are we talking about with these big things?
Are we allowed to talk about them?
Sure, yeah.
I mean we're doing her music music now which is which has taken off um
she um for those of you listening it's it's lacy k summer she's you know she's massive on social
media a lot of a lot of your male following probably know who she is 10 million followers
yeah yeah she's she's right there she's like like a couple couple thousand away from hitting it like
what are we gonna do when you hit 10 mil what are we gonna do we're gonna throw a party um yeah no so her music is is really taking off
we've been making some pretty crazy connections she's recording in the studio um and there's
there's there's a lot going on in the music industry for her i can't imagine the music
scene it's crazy and the people that you probably meet oh yeah music scene oh yeah yeah there's a
lot of like executives and people who like put put on eminem and dr dre and like jimmy ivine was at breakfast
with our one of one of our associates the other day that's gotta be insane oh yeah there's a lot
of heavy hitters in la especially in the area we're gonna we're about to be in yeah um not only
that but i'm i'm doing marketing for like an exotic car rental um agency or company in beverly
hills which is massive revenue stream um just like if
you think of beverly hills it's like a it's a destination location so people come out and they
want to ball out you know i mean they just want to stay at the nicest hotels and they want to rent
the nicest cars and we've got like a fleet of like 40 cars just constantly just turning over
over to new people and new hands and they're getting rented out for thousands of dollars a
day so that's crazy it's crazy dude it's probably a lot of like middle eastern people too huh yes yeah a lot of the guys
from overseas china you know what i mean a lot of the international people come to california and
they want to show off and they want to like you know make their presence announce their presence
and be like oh i'm driving a bit i'm driving a rolls royce you know i mean i'm driving a wraith
i'm driving a lambo so they'll pay for it yeah i mean they're not going to ship one over and they're not going to buy one while they're
here for a month.
So every time I go to Dubai, I'm always like amazed by like, we haven't been.
Oh, I've been telling her we need to go.
I've been a few times.
It's insane, dude.
I can't wait.
You just got to make sure that you go with people who are like connected.
Yeah.
And then you get to do some seriously cool shit.
Yeah.
And how long would you suggest going over there for?
At least like 10 days?
I would say like two weeks probably.
Yeah.
Probably needed. Because I don't want to go for like four days everything's
very far apart right you gotta drive yeah it's not like you're in california and like you go to
like san diego and la and it's all like a two-hour drive like some of it's like far yeah like the mall
like from debating debatably like where you're staying is like kind of far away yeah but you
absolutely need to stay in the burj khal Tower, which is the biggest building in the world.
It's also the Armani Hotel.
Yeah.
And the whole, all the rooms are controlled on like an iPad.
Yep.
It's like the shutters, the TV, the temperature in the room,
everything's on the iPad.
That's so bad.
All your soap, all your stuff is just like all Armani.
Amazing.
And then the breakfast is like out of control.
It's just like insane.
I feel like they take care of their tourists over there.
It's insane.
I mean, but you get what you pay for, right?
It's like you're going over to one of the wealthiest places in the world with a lot
of heavy hitters.
So if you pay for it, you're going to.
So my first time I ever went there, I got invited out from the Sheik.
Dude, I think you told me about this.
Didn't you go over there for a fitness thing?
For a world championships of fitness.
You told me about this.
Yeah.
And I got fourth or fifth place.
Didn't you go by yourself? I went with a okay uh who also got invited yeah so they put us up in the burge cleaver tower for three and a half weeks
dude we were in the tower for three and a half weeks because the there was a qualifying workout
to make it to the world championships and it was two weeks before the competition yeah and then
the actual competition was two weeks long so we were there for three weeks just competing and i just took like an extra couple days to just like chill
before i got back on the plane yeah so he's like whatever you do it's comped so just like stay in
your room if you want room service you want massages you want whatever you want to do that
has to do with the hotel it's free wow so me and my friend kenny who both got invited out we were like some of the best crossfitters in the world we get there they tell us that and we're i don't know i'm like 26 probably
yeah this is a couple years ago eight years ago okay and i'm like holy shit you know so me and
kenny every day like hour and a half massages i would like wake up in the morning and order like
a rack of lamb to the room that was like in armani hotel was like 500 bucks wow i remember getting a steak
one night that was 2500 what it was like eight pounds like this huge steak and then i'll never
forget our bill at the end of the trip no way we go to the counter to check out this is gonna be like a mortgage on the house
dude our bill was 265 000 265 grand stop and it was comped and it was all comped wow
and like i looked at kenny and i was like oh my god they're gonna fucking kill us we're dead
we're gonna get like you're not getting back on the flight i would freak out i'd be like oh
i'd never even heard anyone even like say that number so i was just like literally you never
even probably at that time never even seen that number no no of course not and there you are
you're spending 265 000 on hotel comps that's ridiculous it was insane we got like chauffeured
around in like mercedes g wagons you're there what 21 day three weeks so that three and a half weeks was
like almost a full month you're basically spending ten thousand dollars a day yeah you're a savage
dude it was insane you must have ate like oh my god you know i gained like 10 pounds dude
and you were competing yep wow it was insane but yeah a great great trip i also got to do atlantis
where you come down like in the water parks. Yeah. Through like tubes of like sharks and like they have all these man-made islands that look like the world.
Have you seen that?
I've seen that.
Yeah, on Instagram.
That's like where Atlantis is and there's an indoor ski resort and it's just like absolutely – it's an insane place.
It's almost like fantasy land.
It is.
You're just like everything you want to do is possible.
You'll see a million-dollar Ferrariari just wrapped like dipped in 24 karat
gold just drive down the street like and no what's the crime like there no one even turns around
like no one even that's like a normal you'll see like just like military green lambos like driving
by like crazy crazy shit yeah but the the most like wow factor in all of dubai is the license plate what is it so like if you
have a dope ass car but your license plate is not that good like no one cares yeah so the lower the
number on your license plate the cooler you are no yeah so like you'll see people even in america
here in california it they'll have a license plate that says like dubai five if you ever see that
that's someone who's like probably either wealthy in dubai and just
like thinks it's cool here right or they're just from dubai and they just want to have like a like
a low number like that oh yeah so like numbers one through ten are like saved for the royal family
right so like if you see like the number one drive-by it could just be like a regular g-wagon
like not the most expensive car in the world but a nice car and it has like the number one on it
and that is like the ruler of dubai you mean you know that's legit the ruler of dubai oh wow like not not like
the ruler of dubai it is him and then number two is like his first son the prince yep and then his
number three is his second son yeah and so on yeah so the fifth son drove me around everywhere
and invited me out and everything so you'd see him drive around and all of his cars had number five on was that the kid that comped everything for you yes the fit the
fifth in life son yeah wow so his name is like chick muhammad yeah octum fucking something crazy
but like all he has a ton of cars and they're all just number of course all of his cars have number
five on them yeah and then anything after that like so if you see someone driving around like number 11 or number 12 like they they spent million tens of millions on just the license plate
just to be recognized as yeah as like as royalty as royalty yeah so the car doesn't even matter
wow it's just the license i mean because the car like you know anybody can apply to get that car
i guess but i guess the license plate is like it's a status symbol.
Where here is a car is a status symbol.
There it's the license plate you're saying.
Yeah.
That's fascinating.
It's crazy, dude.
It's crazy.
So you're driving around in number five.
All the time.
Where people are like, oh, shit.
Yep.
Everywhere you went, they're like, oh, my God.
That's royalty right there.
And you get out of the car and go to restaurants and just everything is free.
It's just like insane.
I've never felt anything like it. I felt like i was like the president of the united states
yeah better everywhere we went like everything like even like we'd go in stores and like some
of the people that were like working for them they'd just be like oh whatever you want just
get it how do you eat that much food is my i'm thinking about your bill right now what do you
206 so probably a lot of that's massages I imagine
massages were really expensive
like how much food
like how many calories were you taking in a day
like this is insane
every time I'd get room service to the room it was at least $1500
was it three meals a day
oh no I'd be getting like a whole bunch
I'm sure you're getting snacks and dessert
we would bring like other crossfitter friends
who didn't get invited out like us.
They were like, hey, come eat with us.
Yeah, just come eat with us.
And we'll comp it.
That's when we ordered – I don't know.
We bought a steak one time.
It was legit, like $2,500.
And then we got a $2,000 bottle of wine.
I mean our bill was like $8,000 for dinner.
Yeah, for four of you
for like legit four of us that's insane i'll never forget like my friend took a picture of the
receipt and he actually sent it to me like a year ago and he's like dude do you remember this and i
was like like yeah i haven't been able to do that since but that's funny yeah i have not been able
to do that since are you still in touch with the guy from dubai that's the number five um i don't
talk to him but i talk to some people that are in the little connection pool.
Oh, okay.
So if you ever wanted to go back, it would probably take a little finessing, but you could probably negotiate a trip like that again.
There's a huge competition going in two weeks.
I've thought about hitting them up and seeing if I can come out and just do some podcasts with some of them.
You've got to go.
Yeah.
Especially if you're getting $2,000 stakes comp.
Dude, it's insane.
It's literally insane.
Screw that.
Yeah, that's crazy.
And everything, it's so hot there that everything that you could ever imagine in the world is done indoors. Oh, yeah. The indoor literally insane. Screw that. Yeah, that's crazy. And everything, it's so hot there that, like, everything that you could ever imagine in
the world is done indoors.
Oh, yeah.
The indoor ski resort, the mall.
I mean, it's in the middle of a desert, right?
The mall is, like, the size of a city.
Like, it's a humongous mall.
Unreal.
Like, it's massive.
And, yeah, it's just...
I want to go.
It's insane.
We're going to go.
Yeah, we're going to find time next year to go.
And there's a lot of cool stuff nearby.
There's Egypt's nearby.
Yeah.
Jordan, like, all these different crazy countries. We're going to take a videographer with us. And there's a lot of cool stuff nearby. There's Egypt nearby. Yeah. Jordan, like all these different crazy countries.
We're going to take a videographer with us to document the trip.
That would be rad.
And do like some drone footage and like get it for YouTube and do all that cool shit because we want to document that.
Yeah.
I'm stoked.
Well, that's kind of how we met each other.
We're just sitting down.
How funny was that today?
I'm literally walking Lacy to get her nails done
because like i don't let her walk anywhere by herself because obviously if you look at her
you know what she looks like you're like absolutely not you're not going anywhere by yourself because
you are a absolute target for uh men pretty much any male any male figure walking around and the
85 of the males listening to the show basically always hard as the conversation we have before
this still hard yes uh always hard is the uh is you guys
know the hashtag is is a good way to describe uh yeah with lacy uh but that was so dude i was like
we were walking to the nail salon and i was like lacy i'd nudge her i'm like look who that is look
who that is and she's like is that ryan i'm like yeah she's like okay i'm gonna sneak up behind him
you go this way don't let him notice you and then boom and then you're like oh hey what's up and then five minutes later i you convinced me to uh by the way anybody listening
if you haven't met ryan like anything he tells you to do you just do it like he's just like he
told me he's like dude you snowboard yes okay so here's what you got to do you got to get this
snowboarding pass we got to go to japan so i haven't seen you for a year and within five minutes
we're planning japan that's how fucking cool you are so um that was hilarious dude like i was like oh
because and we were talking about it you're like oh i like how you were just you went with it though
you're like oh yeah okay japan yep alaska no i'm going i don't think you realize like i'm going
yeah she was like can i come like yeah sure whatever you can kill you can kick it at the
cabin or the hotel like while he and i shred People don't realize that I'll go solo.
Which shocks me because I'm like – but then I saw you went to Norway solo, and I was like, okay, yeah, that makes sense.
He does travel alone, but I can't imagine traveling alone because, I mean, I guess you meet people.
I mean you're a social guy, so it's easy for you to meet people.
But for me, it's kind of like I just want to go with my crew and not really talk to anybody, and I just want to enjoy it with my close friends.
But you love traveling alone.
Well, I've gone with people, and they've kind of ruined the trip for me.
Got it.
Okay.
They don't ruin it, but they're just not into it.
They're downers.
I'm just a complete maniac when I travel.
You're like, I want to do this, this, this, and this.
And if I don't do this, I'm going to be pissed.
I'll wake up early, I'll get my workout in, and I'll just be cruising all day.
Yeah, that's how Lacey is.
She loves to just go, go, go, go, go. get on trains and just travel all over europe and stuff and just always be
always be moving like i don't like staying anywhere for more than like a day or two
yeah like like i'll feel like i went to paris for like a day and a half i'm ready to go yeah
so everything let's fucking get scared here yeah we're going to paris for christmas yeah
yeah no that that there's so much stuff that's cool nearby like you know like it's just like
it's insane yeah but that's just the way it's just kind stuff that's cool nearby like you know like it's insane
yeah but that's just the way it's just kind of the way it is and i always like i would get excited
about like who i might meet yeah you know so you never know you just post it and you're like hey
i'm gonna be here and then have you have you met people that have followed you like i have
yeah like pretty much everywhere i go yeah they're like dude which is crazy for only having like
a hundred something thousand followers like i run into people at airports like i don't think I've ever been to the airport and not saw someone I knew.
Oh, yeah.
They just come up.
They're like, dude, you're the shredded guy.
Yeah.
The guy that's jacked.
They're like, you're Ryan Fisher, right?
And I'm like, oh, yeah.
Yeah, you're like, what's up?
You're like, okay.
You want to pick?
Yeah.
And then like I was at the top of a mountain.
One of the biggest mountain in the content of the United States is called Mount Whitney.
Yeah.
It's literally the biggest mountain.
Yeah.
Like just to get to the top of that you're
pretty badass dude you got to be in shape i got to the top of it there was four people there and
two of them knew who i was they probably listened to this podcast and i was like with my with my
other friend who made it to the top with me yeah we had to like take medication that day to get to
the top because like you get altitude sickness and like oh i bet you get fucked up and you have oxygen on you no but like there's literally a
point where we're just like walking we're like yeah yeah yeah yeah bro just like everything just
gets slow like you change yeah we're like super fucked up and like to be at the top with other
people that are at that level and there's four of us up there and two of them knew who i was was
like crazy to me i was like yeah you're like what the hell i did something good in my life that's grad yeah you've done a lot of good things give yourself
a little more yeah so um yeah there's a whole bunch of travel stories for you guys everyone's
like damn i want to go to dubai and i want to climb that mountain i know i'm sure there's a lot
like there's so there's yeah i'm excited um now that i got this snowboarding pass with you you
said there's all these resorts on there that are covered.
And I'm like, oh, shit.
So it's not just California.
It forces you to travel.
Right, because you're like, well, it's already paid for.
You might as well go to Japan.
You know what I mean?
So I've always wanted to go to Japan.
She's always wanted to go to Japan.
So let us know when we're going.
Probably like, are you down like January, February?
Yeah.
I have to go to, for those of you who don't know,
I'll be on the WOD on the Waves cruise going to the Bahamas at the end of January.
Hell yeah.
If any of you guys want to go, you guys get 30% off for typing in CHOC30 if you guys ever want to go on that cruise.
And then you guys get to hang out with me and whoever I feel like podcasting on that.
So if you guys want to go, you're welcome to come on that.
Literally, someone rented the entire cruise ship, and it's only fitness people on the boat.
Yeah, it's going to be crazy.
Lots of connections.
A lot of social media posts.
A lot of social media posts.
A lot of networking and stuff.
And I'll be there podcasting.
I'm actually coaching classes on the ship.
Oh, they hired you for that?
Mm-hmm.
Wow.
So my whole thing is comp for me.
And then they gave me a special code for anybody who's part of chalk or my online programming it's chalk 30 and
you get 30 off if you want to come wow and you're just like part of my posse how long is it four
days oh and it goes out of miami miami's fun too yeah so it's gonna be really cool i'm excited
hell yeah good for you so lots and lots of traveling that's the best part about
that's best part about life just getting getting more successful in things is getting to travel and get to do things.
Because when I was a kid, I never traveled.
My mom was scared of flying, so I just never got to travel.
She never took you anywhere?
We went on cruise ships or a train.
Oh, okay.
We never flew anywhere.
And I never, yeah, I just never, I mean, if you want to go anywhere cool, you got to fly.
Yeah.
So to this day, my plan is to get my mom to actually go somewhere that's like really cool
before she, you should take her to Dubai to get $2,000 stakes and massages.
She would never, she would never be on a plane that long.
I'm trying to get her to go to Hawaii.
That's like what, a 16, 16 hour?
18?
From here, it's 16.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's a big, from New Jersey, it's like 20 something hours.
Jeez. Yeah, it would be gnarly. Yeah yeah that's a big from new jersey it's like 20 something hours jeez yeah it would
be gnarly yeah that's not but my mom's 60 years old she's been on an airplane twice in her whole
life the first one was to see the gym uh-huh and then the second time was the two-year anniversary
of the gym was that the christmas party yes she rode the mechanical bull wow and she also was my
wingman to get nikki as my girlfriend. Yes. I remember. I remember Nikki.
Nikki actually had my guest room at the time for a couple months because she didn't have any place to live.
And she told me about that story.
Yeah.
Like when she got home, she was all excited.
Yeah.
Sorry, Nikki.
But yeah, she was like, oh, my God.
So Ryan's mom basically was like, are you single?
Because my Ryan's single.
Basically, your mom's like the ultimate wingman.
Yeah, she's insane.
Yeah.
That's awesome.
So now that you have all these skills.
Yep.
And now you're doing this car dealership thing.
You guys have music stuff on the rise.
Yeah, we're doing a lot.
Oh, yeah.
We're doing cryptocurrency stuff.
Oh, the cryptocurrency stuff is so interesting.
Isn't that crazy?
So I don't know.
I didn't know anything about it.
I didn't know.
I know a lot of people invested in Bitcoin, and then they let it in other Litecoins, and then they let it grow, and then they cashed out, or they let it grow, let it sit there, and then they lost.
Yeah, a lot of it, right?
Yeah, so one of the guys in our network, he is unbelievable at day trading for crypto.
And he's basically opened us up to a whole new world of success and traveling and doing things the right way.
This guy has a private jet too, right?
Oh, yeah.
Or he just travels in one?
Well, right now he leases them out for certain trips.
He'll pay like $10,000 to go to Vegas or whatever, but he's actually buying one very soon.
He's just trying to figure out what size he wants because the crew is kind of getting bigger when we entertain clients.
It's like let's say –
It's a shitty problem to have.
Yeah, it's a shitty problem to have.
What size private jet do I want?
He's like, do I want six or do I want ten seats?
So right now he's deciding.
But we –
Is there that much of a price difference between six and ten?
Oh, yeah. What are we talking? Oh, a price difference between six and ten? Oh, yeah.
What are we talking?
Oh, millions.
Millions between four seats.
Oh, yeah.
So like a six – so this is what's crazy is now that we're a part of this lifestyle, we've actually – because I'm with him when he's like shopping.
And he does it all from his phone.
This is what's crazy about today's technology is he's shopping for private jets on his phone.
He's like, all right, it's $3 million for for a six seater or it's seven million
for a ten seater he's like okay and there's financing available he's like i don't know i
could just pay cash for it blah blah blah but there people don't i never understood like when
when you're rich and you have a lot of wealth you have access to so much cool shit it is unbelievable
right like people like people can like act like they're rich like you
know they could buy like three cars a dope house but like i'm talking like actual wealth where
people roll up like like dubai right like so your royal family like number five right like you had
the red carpet rolled out for you all the time you probably had a host everything got comped
that's how it is with this guy and he's younger than me which is crazy he's 27 i'm 29 and he
is so successful with the cryptocurrency space
that everywhere he goes he has connections and he has networked and leveraged himself in so many
different situations and we get the red carpet rolled out for us everywhere we go it's it's
absolutely insane like if she if we wanted a an exotic car somewhere he'd have it we got picked
up in a ferrari at the airport the other day it was it was one of the lusos it's a four four-seater ferrari and he was like i you know we rent from
enterprise you know because they have a brilliant corporate structure and they allow you the tools
to be your own boss that's a stepbrother's reference if you guys don't know that but
he was like we flew we flew on the on the pj we called the pj you know the private jet we flew
on the pj from sc Scottsdale over to LA.
And we walk out and there's just a Ferrari waiting for us.
And we were like, oh, okay.
This is how it's done when you are balling out of control.
So then we went right over to like – we went to a steakhouse.
And that's like – like the amount of money for that is like probably him like buying lunch.
It's like – not even that, like buying a bag of Cheetos.
Yeah.
Yeah. Literally like lunch is like $30 like buying lunch it's like but not even that like buying a bag of cheetos yeah yeah literally like like lunch is like 30 bucks like at whole foods right like 40 probably
60 for you because you eat so much but for him it's literally like buying a bag of cheetos like
he but the coolest i love how we just compared private jets to cheetos yeah that no but it's
crazy dude because um when you when i guess it's just when you get to a certain level and so many things are available and actually obtainable, life is lived a lot differently.
You know what I mean?
Like we – he's just – the craziest part – so he was like, what are you guys doing for Christmas?
And we've known this guy like probably like four months, and we're like, I don't know, normal Christmas things.
We're hanging out with our family, like opening presents around the tree.
Like what are you doing?
He was like, well, I chartered a private jet. I'm going to Paris on
the 23rd. I've got 20 seats and it's just me and my mom. I'm like, what? He's like, yeah,
I got 20 seats. I'm like, okay. So what do you say? He's like, do you guys want to come? I'm
like, well, we got the family. He's like, no, you can bring them. Yeah. I'm like, okay. All right.
So I guess we're going to Paris. And then, you know, her parents are getting their passports
now. So we're actually, it's like that level where he's like, yo, I've got the jet.
Just bring your shit.
I've got the hotel booked right outside the Eiffel Tower.
We're going to go for the week.
And then we're flying back into New York City for New Year's Eve.
So I'm like, okay.
Which in itself is crazy expensive.
Crazy.
We're going to be in Times Square.
Yeah.
He's plugged.
You know, there's people you know, like they're the plug.
Yeah.
Like anything you need.
Like whether it's something for your truck or it's like you need to get into a restaurant
like he's the plug yeah so it's just it's just crazy so anyway back to crypto yes cryptocurrency
i find is fascinating and the fact that it's a very volatile market it's always going up and
down there's trades being made all day i didn't realize how much money is being exchanged daily
uh peer-to-peer like from people because they're
taking banks out of it you know what i mean so it's one of those things where he's he's literally
just crushing the markets every day which allows him to just continue to build his net worth and
he's one of the smartest people ever and you said you got a crypto yeah i have a friend that he's
literally just building out he just builds algorithms so that even just when he's just chilling, he's just making – he makes like thousands of dollars a day.
Isn't that amazing?
Yeah, he's not confident enough to make the millions yet because you could potentially lose millions also.
Right, which our guy has spent six years like learning and figuring things out to even get to that point where he's willing to gamble that much.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
Because it is all gambling.
Because do you have any stories where he's like, oh, I lost like $30 million one day?
Never that much.
I don't know.
He doesn't lose, dude, which is crazy.
He's told me he's had like 55 straight months of winning,
which is if you're a gambler,
because that's pretty much what it is.
You're buying low, you're selling high, you're short,
you know what I mean, all that stuff.
So it's day trading.
It's basically stock market for crypto,
but he doesn't lose, which is crazy.
He's built a ridiculous net worth, making way more money than pro athletes make, and he's a 27-year-old kid who's just smart.
I know.
That's intense.
You know what I mean?
And I explained it to you today.
It's like where you were like, you know what a steak will do to your body before you go to sleep.
I don't know what it's going to do to my body.
I don't know what drinking a certain water as opposed to this water is spring water
you know i don't know what that but that's your space right like you are so good at nutrition you
are so good at training if anybody asks you any question about nutrition you would be able to
answer it like that because you understand the human body right you're not gonna have to look
that up the way he handles crypto is the way that you handle nutrition and training.
He's just so good at it, the way that you're so good at your space.
So that's what I've learned too is finding people that are just so good at one thing and they're just doubling down and tripling down on what they're good at, and then they just crush it.
So that's like our new best friend, and he's just been amazing.
Super generous guy. Yeah. The most, that's what's cool about that is cause there's a lot of assholes that are
rich,
right?
That just like step on people or people that act like they're rich,
that step on people.
Like we know a couple of them that had it all.
I actually get excited for people to get rich.
Like if I see them about to get rich,
like I can tell like they're going to be rich.
Yeah.
And I'm like,
all right,
go ahead and be rich and let's see what happens.
You know?
Right.
Exactly.
Let's see.
Let's see if he changed.
You know what I mean?
Cause it does make a humongous difference.
Humongous difference.
Someone has money, but he is the most generous
person we're like hey do we owe you anything for the flight for paris or he's like no he's like
stop it shut up i'm like okay yeah he's like everything i went to vegas with him everything
was comped didn't pay for it didn't pay for shit yeah it's crazy yeah so he probably doesn't pay
for shit when he goes to vegas either no he gets everything comped because they probably see him
so much oh yeah and he's got a credit line with them.
You could do Vegas with your boys, right,
where you're all pitching for a room at the MGM, right,
and you're all like, oh, yeah, I'll throw in $300 for the weekend.
No, he's got $3,500 a night suites comped,
plus steakhouses, plus shows, plus this, plus that,
because he's just a huge player.
Because he plays, he gambles so much
that they're like oh yeah we'll comp you because they wanted to keep coming back yeah so they
offered him they offer him like free sweets all the time yeah it's a joke it's a joke i'm lucky
enough to have had a scenario like that for one time in my life that's cool you guys get to live
it like on the regular now yeah and you guys are moving into like a i don't know it's 30 million dollar house and 38 38
million yeah we asked yeah i know yeah it's it's seven bedrooms like 12 bathrooms yeah it's insane
yeah it's over i have to come check that out oh you're coming you're coming oh yeah anytime you
want yeah you know what's cool though is um i think all of us at some point have like we have
we have our ups we have our downs like things kind of have a roller
coaster effect um i think it's always nice to plan right for a down um but you know you don't ever
really want to have the mindset that that's ever going to happen either no but i also think that
there's a few things that go into play that pretty much guarantee the fact that you're going to be
successful no matter what so i feel like yep i don't think I've ever seen you like at a super low point, but I know that you've had higher points.
I know I've seen you at points where you've been lower than you've been up.
Like tell me about some of the things that you're like mindset wise that you're thinking of during the down points.
Or if you're always just like, I'm going to go back up.
I just got to ride this out.
So because a lot of people are like, dude, like I get messages all the time. They're like, man, I'm having
this hard time right now.
Give me some words of encouragement. And I always
just tell them, you know,
if you're a good person and you do work really hard
and people genuinely
believe in you and like you and they
meet you and you're like, you know what?
That fucking dude's got something. You know what I mean?
He's got a cool factor about him. Yeah, I would like to think that you'd say that about me when you left. You're like, you know what i mean like i've got a cool factor about yeah
i would like to think that you'd say that about me like when you left you're like you know what
like i'm pretty sure ryan's gonna be fine always so like knowing that inside myself like even at
my lowest point i'm always just like i've been like my mom will literally be freaking out it's
like ryan you gotta do this you gotta do that you gotta get a you gotta get a good health care job
or like whatever like when i didn't have the gym and all these things yeah and i actually remember
like telling my mom,
like I'd always be like crying about it.
And I'd be like,
mom,
like you don't understand.
Like that's not what I was meant for.
Right.
I don't even know what I was meant for,
but it's not that.
Right.
And I'm sorry if I'm like hurting you right now.
And this is like bad for you to like see me like not successful.
Right.
But I guarantee this is going to work out.
I don't know how,
but it's going to work out.
And you can't tell that to someone else. Right. You can't be like, Hey dude, this is like, this is what's really going on. Like this is the work out i don't know how but it's gonna work out and you can't tell that to someone else right you can't be like hey dude this is like this is what's really going on like this
is the plan right um because they they just don't understand yeah i get a lot of messages people
like dude i admire you like you inspire me like you're killing it you enlace your couple goals
like you guys are traveling you're doing a thing they don't know that like i've i've dealt with
serious depression serious serious depression my mom it runs in the family. Like my grandfather has been depressed.
My mother has been depressed. Um, I've dealt with a lot of bullshit and I've, and I've had
some serious lows. I don't really show it. Like, even though you can kind of tell with like my body
language or like, if you don't hear from me a little while, or like you can kind of tell,
like I would come in and I would work out and I might be moping around a little bit. Right.
But I've had some serious depression in my life to the point where i struggled a lot like mentally
like okay like do i you know to you know i'm not even afraid to say this like do i want to keep
living do i want it do i want to keep going do i want to because i've been fucked over pretty hard
in business right and and i've dealt with a lot of um obstacles and challenges and people stepping
on me because i feel like when you're a good person, people take advantage of that. Right. Like all the time, all the time. Right. It's like,
it's like, Oh my God, I'm such a good person. Why do I get shit on every day? And the assholes like
always, you know, make it out like, you know, and they're better off than anybody. I mean,
at the end of the day, like you said, it's like, if you're a good person, you treat people the
right way. You're always respectful. You're always kind. Um way you're always respectful you're always kind um and you
always you always leave people um leave their presence feeling good about you i think good
things are are in your future so like even though when i was having like a shitty time in my life
it was there was like a two-year period where i really struggled i leaned on her a lot for it um
we've both had our our issues and our struggles and our struggles. Like we did, you know,
two years ago we had like $13,000 to our name combined, right? We, there were no sponsorships,
social media. Um, you know, we're no longer part of shreds, you know, flavor God was whatever.
I wasn't really a part of it anymore. Um, she and I literally combined had 13 grand in our pocket
and we had two options. We could either be bummed and just kind of live an
average life and i could go get a job or whatever um and make minimum wage and we could barely you
know afford to take care of our dogs and ourselves but it's just so hard to do like when you know
like what you're capable of right right isn't that crazy like i bet you there's a lot of people
listening that they're like dude i know i'm capable of so many great things. I'm just not doing them.
That was us at the time.
We're like, shit, like we know we're smart.
We know.
Obviously, at the time, she had like six million followers on Instagram.
Like, OK, how do we monetize that?
You know what I mean?
So so we she and I together worked and we networked and we met a lot of great people and we figured out strategies on how to monetize.
And and now we're so much better off. But part of that is we always remained humble even though we had some really tough times and even during our high points where we were killing it and we were living in a high rise, driving new cars.
Like we always remained humble.
We never shit on anyone else's parade.
We never talk smack about anybody else.
We never lived you know, talk smack about anybody else. We never, um, you know, lived outside our means, but, um, yeah, I get the same message as you get.
And I tell people, you know what, it's all about having a positive mindset and understanding that
if you want something bad enough, right? Like if you, if you want to be a CrossFit athlete,
if you really wanted to be a crossfit athlete well the first
thing i would do is i would join shock gym and i would hire you as a private or as a personal
trainer and i'd be like ryan get my nutrition right get my training right i'll see you here
every day at 7 a.m and pretty soon after probably about six months to a year you'd be looking like
an athlete you know what i mean so it's it's one of those things where people want people want to
live a certain way people want a certain where people want to live a certain way.
People want a certain lifestyle.
People want to do certain things, but they're not willing to dig themselves out of the hole that they're in to actually obtain and achieve that.
We were in a hole.
We were in a dark place as a couple, as individually, financially, spiritually.
We were struggling, but we dug deep.
We didn't give up on ourselves we pushed each other um and we pushed ourselves to be um successful and and and network
correctly and be good people and and and really put ourselves out there and take risk a lot of
people want to be massively successful but they don't want to take any risk like we were talking
about that before the show like right the catch The catch me moment. Like, yeah, you have to like literally close your
eyes and fall backwards. Exactly. And hope that not someone else is going to catch you, but hope
that your plan is going to catch you. Yeah. Or, you know, your parachute is going to pull, you
know what I mean? So you, you've taken you, you woke up one day, right. And you were like, I want
to run a CrossFit gym. Like it was an idea that you had and you were like, I want to run a CrossFit gym. It was an idea that you had.
You're like, I want to open up a gym.
You took a risk, right?
I was fucking terrified.
You were terrified.
But now look at you.
You have one of the most notable gyms in the country.
Your programs are kick-ass.
Every time I drive by, like when I'm in town, you have like 30 people in here, always.
And you have people running on the streets, and I'm like, oh ryan doing his thing yeah why because you took risks i remember you said you drove by
like 10 o'clock at night one time and i was in here working out you're in here working out by
yourself i'm like hey what's up like oh she was getting tan uh at uh the tanning salon down here
yeah yeah and i drove by i'm like dude ryan's in there at 10 o'clock at night like and i guarantee
you you woke up at five that day yeah yeah and you're still training still working out but that's
see people don't see that right they don't see how you were able to dig yourself out of a dark place or when
when your mom was like ryan join the healthcare industry do this do that they didn't see you
grinding away doing your business model planning on okay strategically where these this equipment
is going to be in your gym who's going to your gym, who's going to do this role,
who's going to do this role, you know what I mean? The equipment you're going to, they didn't see
any of that, right? They just see, oh, he's got a gym. That's cool. No, no, no, no, no. It doesn't
just, a gym doesn't just happen out of thin air and become successful. You had to take certain
risks and put in the time and the work to make it successful. So people that are in a dark place,
I tell them, well, you're in a dark place, but are you willing to do the things that are necessary to get out of that dark place? And if you are fantastic, that's
the first step. So, so set goals. It'd be like, okay, people like, as people want, you know,
everybody wants the quick fix, right? Like how many times have people come to you and they're
like, Hey, I want to be shredded in a week. You're like, all right, well, that's not, that's not
going to happen, but I could do it in eight weeks. Yeah. I could do it in 12 weeks. You know what I
mean? Like, depending on how, how much you're willing to put into it, that's not going to happen. But I could do it in eight weeks. I could do it in 12 weeks. You know what I mean? Like depending on how much you're willing to put into it.
It's the same thing with success.
It doesn't happen in a week.
It doesn't happen in eight weeks.
It doesn't happen in 12 weeks.
It happens when you do something consistently over time.
And for me, all of my success was actually I didn't even know it was happening.
Isn't that crazy?
Like when I told you I started my online stuff,
like my online programming,
it was kind of like,
oh, I'm just going to do this
because people keep asking what the workouts are
and I want to give it to them,
but I don't want to give it to them for free.
I remember when you were starting it.
Yeah.
And then all of a sudden,
that's like this huge revenue stream for me.
And I was able to travel the world with it.
And then I made a couple books
that literally, for me, were just kind of fun.
It was kind of like a documentation
of what I've been doing.
Yeah. And I put a cool name on it and then all of a sudden, that became like a were just kind of fun. It was kind of like a documentation of what I've been doing. Yeah.
And I put a cool name on it.
And then all of a sudden that became like a thing.
And I was like,
this wasn't even something that I was like,
you know what?
I'm going to make books and an online program and I'm going to be this and
that.
It's just like something that,
yeah,
my true passion just happened to come out in a way that was,
you know,
yeah.
Lucrative,
but you're passionate about it.
See,
that's,
that's the key word that I always tell people is,
is are you truly passionate about it? Because if that's the key word that I always tell people is, are you truly passionate about it?
Because if you are trying to do something just to make money but you're not passionate about it, you're not going to have any long-term success.
It's like you can easily make a quick buck and blah, blah, blah.
But let's talk about longevity.
How many years have you had this gym?
Almost five.
You see what I'm saying?
Like how many CrossFit gyms fail?
And even today you were telling me you're like, dude, when I think of you, I only think of like chalk and like all the things that surround it.
I think of you as the face of it and how you're a badass and how you've been able to build something that has sustained longevity and consistency.
But that's a testament also to you because you run the gym the same way you run your life.
It's on a schedule.
It's consistent.
It's with hard work it's with you
know clear communication with your members and probably clear communication with yourself about
you know i bet you have a lot of i love structure so much when i was a kid i used to beg my parents
this is so weird i i used to beg to go to military school what i was a kid and i was like mom i want
to go to military school i want to wear a uniform i want to wake up at five in the morning and I want to be like the guy that stands up perfectly straight.
And I just want to fucking go to war and just straight murder people.
My mom is like, you are insane.
I don't know if you should go.
I don't know if you should go.
I don't know, Ryan.
Everything sounded good until you wanted the Murphy.
Oh, man.
That's like, oh, my God.
You know what's really cool, though?
I think that you mentioned just like without even probably knowing it was like you guys said that you supported each other during that time.
Oh, yeah.
So like when I was opening my gym, I had a girlfriend at the time where I would come here every night and I would sit in the middle of the floor where the chalk pull-up bar is right now.
And there was nothing in here.
It was all open.
And it was just painted.
Just a box.
It was brown, actually.
Yeah.
Now it's orange and gray.
But I would sit there for hours.
Like you saw me today sitting on a table by the beach just for hours doing my work.
Yeah.
And I was by myself.
And I like to be by myself.
And I like to be like in a zone in my zone and like i would come here every night and just sit there on the floor there was nothing here and i would just be like all right this is gonna go here
this is gonna go here and i'm drawing stuff you know like the worst artist ever like stick figure
style stuff but like to me i'm like all right it could look like this it could look like this
and i did that for a month like yeah i didn't do it like three or four times and my girlfriend be like
yo stop fucking going there and doing this dumb shit whatever like i want to go out and do
something i'm like if you want to have a cool life at some point you're gonna let me fucking do my
dumb shit and you should support it right now because like right now you're really getting on
my nerves and that dumb shit could pay your bills here in the next couple years yeah yeah and then literally that relationship ended and then i got into another relationship that
was amazing this girl worked a full-time job and she was in school full-time and she would wake up
at four in the morning every day to help me open at five yeah and she would sign people up because
i didn't hire anybody i didn't have anybody at the desk yet so she would sign people up because I didn't hire anybody. I didn't have anybody at the desk yet. So she would sign people up.
This girl worked like 20 hours a day.
She was a savage.
Actually, you know what?
It was the Asian girl you saw today at the park.
Really?
When I was sitting there.
That was her?
That was her.
Oh, wow.
The best girlfriend I've ever had in my life.
But she worked so, so, so, so, so hard.
And actually I got to the point where I started hiring people to help me right and i hired this girl and she just was deathly jealous of the girl
and just was like always was like i don't want you there when she's there
like you know like this jealousy thing happened and i had to break up with her because
it was the first person i hired i really needed the help i mean like i was coaching all the
classes on my own.
And I like I was so excited to have this person helping me.
And she was great at what she did.
Yeah.
And there was no chance of me ever doing anything with the girl.
I mean, geez.
Right.
You're happy with what you're doing. I loved my girlfriend.
Right.
More than anything.
Right.
And one day I just was like, you're really just making this decision between the gym or you.
Right. And like I worked way too hard to give up this the gym like yeah it crushes me but like you have to go right and i was actually sitting in this chair and she's sitting in the chair you're
sitting in right now oh there's some there's some vibes in here we're in the gym right now guys so
um yeah i never forget that and i was like fuck like i love you but you're just not down and everybody
that i've talked to on the podcast has significant others that's like a that is like it's almost like
when you go on vacation with your significant other like you know at the end of the vacation
if you guys are going to be together for a while right yeah you go through some hard times together
you guys come out of it yep it's pretty cool yep yep and very lucky oh yeah yeah extremely lucky
oh yeah not a lot of people a lot see a lot. Not a lot of people can make it to those things. See, and a lot of people because –
And it gives you superhuman powers.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
If you're significant to others, it's down during that time, and then you come out of it, and you know she's supporting you the whole time.
I mean, I just feel like it's an amazing feeling.
Oh, yeah.
And that's a testament to Lacey because I've had some really – I was supporting Lacey for everything I was making with Flavor God and the different ventures I had at one time.
And I told her to quit Shreds and just focus on her own brand.
And since then, she's focused on her own brand.
And now it's what exactly happened to you is you quit something that was holding you back even though it was a steady paycheck.
She quit something that was holding her back, and then she focused on her own own branding and then boom, she blew up. Same thing with you right now.
Your personal branding is blowing up because you're able to focus in on your thing. And I
was supporting her and then my world came crashing down in business and I wasn't able to support us
anymore, but she was right there. And she was like, I got you. You had me. I paid off her
student loans. Now she's paying off my student loans.
You know what I mean?
So it's one of those things where it's like if you find a – I call it a life partner, right?
Not just a boyfriend or girlfriend, but if you find an actual life partner who's willing to do life with you because life is not always sunshine and rainbows as we both know.
Life is a lot of bullshit.
Life is a lot of storms.
Life is a lot of hard, hard, hard times.
But if you find someone who's there for you, actually down for you, even through a lot of bullshit and a lot of disagreements and a lot of problems and challenges, if they're still there, hold on to that person because that person is someone that's worth keeping.
Not to say everything's been perfect between me and her.
We've had some very dark days.
We've had days where we have split up for a couple months.
But at the end of the day, we realize, you know what?
We're perfect for each other because we support each other unconditionally.
No matter what we're doing, we're supportive of each other.
And she's in a very – she gets the craziest comments from men all over the world.
Oh, I can only imagine.
Dude, it's insane the shit that I see in her DMs. How how many dms do you get in a day thousands is it thousands of thousands
a day to where every time she refreshes another 20 come in yeah like you know like you like you're
sitting on like 99 unread right she's sitting on like thousands unread and every day another
thousand come in from fans do you even try to read them she actually goes through them a little
bit but like she doesn't try like she'll probably go like once a day she'll she'll like scroll
through and like see if like a celebrity or like a rapper like i'm always amazed yeah when i comment
on like page hathaway's for instance yeah like she has fucking hilarious stories yeah because
she comments on mine sometimes but like i'll comment on it and she'll comment back and i'm
like how did you even
what are the chances of you even seeing right because there's thousands of comments yeah and
i always wonder part of that is because you follow each other so your comment actually might pop up
on like a notification or your your name will pop up in the comments like at the bottom even though
it's it's not just verified anymore it's like who you follow too like will pop up at the bottom so she might see it that way i was like can you filter out messages from people that you
don't follow maybe or like um i know you can block like like certain like words and stuff but i don't
know if you can like filter stuff out yeah i just feel like that's got to be so hard to manage it's
crazy dude she's got she gets like 10 000 comments per post it's a joke yeah you know what i mean so
um but anyway back to what
i was saying like being being i have to be very secure right with who i am to date someone like
that because that is every is 10 million dudes like fantasy right and 10 million dudes love to
look at her and fantasize about her and um i've never been on her page which i've explained that
on my on my instagram like why
i'm not as well i don't need validation from other people to like be like oh that's the dude that's
what i don't need that you know i mean i'm i'm if she was with an insecure guy it would be post me
on your page so that every guy that follows you knows you got a guy i'm like fuck that i don't
want to be fucking in front of all these guys like I don't want these dudes knowing who I am. You know what I mean?
So yeah, you've got to be – you have to be very supportive of your partner if you're going to make it,
like very supportive to the point where it's got to be like unconditional.
So like your situation was like conditional, right?
It was, hey, kick her out of the gym and we can – and I won't have a problem with you going to the gym. And you're like, well, I can't fire an employee who's a great employee because I need her.
So that's a conditional.
And at the time I really needed her.
That's what I'm saying.
So that was like a conditional situation, right?
You had a girlfriend who was a great girlfriend.
She did a lot for you,
but it was conditional to where she gave you an ultimatum,
like gym or me, her or me, you know what I mean?
And that's ultimately like not a relationship
that you wanna be in long-term because that's just the tip of the iceberg like what happens down the road when
it's just ultimatum after ultimatum that's not a way to live you know what i mean but we've also
set some pretty serious boundaries like with with other women with other men and and other things
and we have a very good understanding of each other and and we have a trust level with each
other and and we understand that dude there are people in her DMs that you see on TV every day or you hear on the radio every day.
It's insane.
Like high, high-level celebrities that just are like, yo, I'll fly you out.
I'll give you $100,000.
Really?
Oh, dude, all the time.
All the time.
Like pro athletes that are on the Lakers and in the league and pro football players. Dude, there are so many people like that that are in,
that have like A-list celebrity status that hit her up on a daily basis.
I'm talking daily that are like, hey, let me fly you out.
I'll give you 50 grand.
Come party with me.
I'm going to be in this city for a game.
I'll give you front row tickets for you and a friend.
Come back to the hotel, blah, blah, blah.
Are some of these people married?
Oh, yeah, of course. Oh, wow. Oh, yeah. Are some of these people married? Oh, yeah, of course.
Oh, wow.
Oh, yeah.
A lot of them are.
Yeah, a lot of them have.
I always wonder what it's like.
Dude, a lot of them will post their chick and be like,
just got my chick a brand new car, but be in Lacey's DMs.
It's insane.
Yeah, I'm not going to name names.
No, no, no.
You don't have to.
I just think it's cool for people out there to know that shit.
Oh, it happens all the time.
Just so you guys know, the chick that you're crushing on on instagram gets a thousand other dms from all these other dudes that are
balling out of control absolutely absolutely happens yeah so you have no chance no and when
you see and when you send a dick pic it's less chance a way less chance like you cut your chances
by 90 if you send a dick pic but that it's it's true don't send fucking dick pics like just don't do
it you know what i mean especially if she didn't ask for it like obviously if you get on a certain
level she's like oh yeah let me see it then okay send it you know what i mean but don't send it
unless she asked for it like that's that's like rule number one you know what i mean
yeah i know right that's gonna be my first message is how do i get on the level
to be able to send the dick yeah how do i get on the dick pic level is there like a certain
test i gotta take all i want is like the flexed arm response to my dick pic yeah
just let me know like yeah you approve yeah i approve of the hammer yeah i'll never forget
when i was dating nikki she got a dick pic and it was from a guy.
And he's sitting there holding his dick in the photo.
Yeah.
And then he grabs like the controller for his TV and he like puts it next to it.
He's like, that's how big it is.
And like I remember being like, really?
Like you're doing that right now? Yeah.
Like should I Google the model of that controller so I know how big it is?
What just happened?
Yeah.
The thickness.
What an asshole. No, she gets that every day well so what's some of the uh scariest moments of messages we've ever
received uh i asked page this question and she said that she had a guy that would follow her
around the country so like she every time she'd go somewhere for like a meet and greet yeah he
would be there yeah it gets better he would be there at and greet, he would be there. Yeah. It gets better.
He would be there at the next one.
He'd be there at the next one.
He'd message her and say, hey, what hotel are you staying at?
And he'd find out and he'd go to the same hotel.
And then when he finally gets in line and meets her and he gives her chapstick, he's like, hey, and gives her a thing of chapstick and then immediately goes in to kiss her. So like she went to give him a hug and then he just like put his,
like his lips on her lips.
Oh,
so I was like,
damn,
he gave you chapstick and then went to kiss you.
This dude,
dude,
that's awful.
That was like the gnarliest.
It's different for,
for chicks,
right?
Like,
like women have a,
women gotta be careful,
especially on social media.
And with her, we've actually, so we've we've got this uh personal trainer and boxing coach in arizona
and uh dude he's like a six four 240 pound black dude awesome like right his name's cory um he is
very very intimidating like super intimidating and he needed a place to stay and we had an extra
bedroom and i was like yes you can have our extra bedroom.
Train us for free.
I need you around to keep us safe because there are some crazy-ass people out there that actually stalk her,
that actually have done similar stuff to what happened to Paige,
that actually follow and know where Lacey is.
They track her stories, and they go, okay, she's in Orange County right now.
All right, I'm going to go. I'm going gonna see if i can find her blah blah like it's it gets
to that level because there are men out there that have nothing better to do other than chase down
like their fantasy dream girl right so one of the things we did is now every time everywhere we go
to like a public event we've got cory with us just walking next to her and you're not gonna mess with
him because he's 6'4 240 big football player he's got a huge fro like you're not you're just not he's actually a fighter he's a ufc fighter but um you're not
going to mess with him and that's one way that we've like felt better about traveling when we
go places is we just we take him with us because oh that's awesome you're not gonna be everywhere
now yeah yeah because you're not gonna it's worth it to us like it's worth like she's a she's a
she's a walking like she's an asset you know what i mean like she she she is us. Like it's worth – like she's a walking – like she's an asset.
You know what I mean?
Like she is – it's kind of weird to say it, but you're worth a lot.
She's worth a lot of money, but she's also worth a lot to me and my family, and it's worth like protecting what is valuable to you.
You know what I mean? So just like you lock your doors at night.
Why?
Because you're protecting your shit.
You know what I mean? So just like you lock your doors at night. Why? Because you're protecting your shit. Yeah.
You know what I mean?
I hired my friend as security and gave him a free place to stay because I'm protecting my shit.
It's the same thing, right?
So yeah, when you're on that level of like celebrity status and there's 10 million people who know who you are and you're a target.
Yeah.
It gets like Paige is a target.
She is.
And she has to be very careful about what she posts and where she's at because stuff like that'll happen so and there's a lot of crazy
people it's like that chick from the voice did you hear about that like she got like fourth and
there's a couple years ago she got like fourth in the voice she had a meet and greet a dude who was
obsessed with her walked up and shot her in the face whoa she died yeah yeah it's a real story
and then her brother chased after the guy and he he got shot. And then the dude shot himself. And she died after a meet and greet because this dude was so obsessed with her and couldn't have her.
So he decided, well, nobody can have her, so I'm going to kill her.
That actually happens in today's society.
People are like – they get so angry that they can't have something or someone that they decide to do some crazy shit.
And crazy shit has been happening a lot recently.
A lot, yeah.
Like more and more recently. The last 10 years, I feel like I've heard And crazy shit's been happening a lot recently. A lot, yeah. Like more and more recently.
Like the last 10 years,
I feel like I've heard more crazy shit than ever.
Oh, yeah.
So it's worth it to me and her and us
to have somebody that has skills,
a particular set of skills, right?
To protect and be there
and to at least intimidate and thwart off an attempt
at something like an ass grab
or a kiss on the lips or you know what
i mean like a like a like a pass or like you know i mean you know i mean like it's it's it's worth it
to us to keep him keep him around so that's crazy yeah it's nuts dude it's nuts so what are like
some particular incidents where it was like way too much um anything in particular that comes up? There was actually a girl actually at a – she hosted a pool party in Vegas.
Like this nightclub hired her to come out and host a pool party.
And this girl would not – she was one of the entertainers there I'll say.
And she would not leave Laceyacy alone like just following lacy around
like squeezing her ass like hugging her like being all over her and i'm like dude like really like
girls girls automatically like will like have you ever heard of a girl like going after another girl
for sexual assault no no right so so girls have like no fear right a girl will walk up to another girl and be
like oh my god you're so pretty and like squeeze their ass and and like girls just don't care right
because it's a girl right but this girl girls in the gym all day long here squeezing each other's
boobs and exactly right but and you're like but if you did that you'd have a lawsuit on your desk in
24 hours right so that's what i'm saying so um we had this girl who would not leave her alone
and and i looked at cory and i'm like, dude, he's like, I got it.
I got it.
I got a handle.
He went over to her and he was like, if you don't step away in the next 10 seconds, I'm
going to have to physically remove you from her presence.
Literally, that's what he said.
He was like, I watched it.
He was like, I will literally physically remove you.
I have the permission from the people that own this pool to do what I need to do to make Lacey feel comfortable.
So if you don't get away, it's going to get bad for you, and I'm going to embarrass you in front of everybody and literally pick you up by one arm and just drag you out of here.
And she looked at him and was like, oh, shit.
Okay.
All right.
I'll back off.
And she left.
So guys actually haven't – we haven't had a scare
yet with a guy knock on wood. Right. But with someone like Corey around, like nobody's tried
anything except for that one thing with that chick where she was just like super handsy.
And it's like, dude, you don't know her. Stop squeezing her boobs. Stop. Like, you know what
I mean? It's like, stop squeezing her ass. Like that's not appropriate. Number one. And number
two, it's like like she doesn't know you
and you just think it's okay because you're another woman.
It's like, oh, yeah, if she knows you, yeah, go ahead.
Get handsy.
But, yeah, that's one of the craziest things is just we had another woman
just get super handsy and we were like, no, not going down
because she looked at us like, can you guys?
We're like, okay, all right, we'll step in.
Interesting. Yeah, crazy, right? You didn't think I was going to go there. No, that's good. You're like okay all right we'll step in interesting yeah crazy right you didn't think i was gonna go there no that's good i'm all about story time so yeah uh we've hit so many different awesome topics right now i'm
pretty excited i think this is like a great great episode all around so um we talked about a lot
so now we've gone through all these different stages of life and everything uh ups downs yep
now you're in like this crazy scenario where you're getting hooked up with the crypto guy.
Yep.
You guys have great businesses going on and all that.
And then what do you see for the future for yourself right now?
Like what's the – obviously sky's the limit, but what are you envisioning in the next, I don't know, two years?
I feel like every year to two years, things change drastically for people in our position.
Yeah.
So things have changed drastically for me and Herb in the last two years.
Like I said, two years ago, we had like $13,000 to our name.
And then we built that into a seven-figure revenue stream, which is awesome. And then from here, I would probably say lots of travel, building our net,
our, our personal net worth. Definitely probably starting some kind of venture capitalist firm
where we invest in other small businesses, like, like across the gym, we're like, Hey,
do you want to expand or um investing in other things and then
flipping them for cash and and and um doing passion projects so one of the things we want to do is we
want to do we want to give back um and we're we're going to help our um our friend out um our friend
zach who is one of our close friends who's actually involved in the crypto space too with uh
with our buddy um he wants to start like a it's called golden tensions which
is pretty cool um he wants to like do a lot of charity events like in the area like like in la
and in arizona so um we're actually going to travel the world and do some cool shit like that
like not just ball out of control but like he wants to um use our our wealth and our networks
and our our connections to actually like like go out and like build gyms and schools and
like underprivileged areas and like touch on the importance of nutrition and stuff like that and
and really just help help help other people you know what i mean so it's like like you can ball
out of control and like hog everything to yourself or you can like share your wealth with the world
like that's what's cool right is when you're on that level and you're like okay now i'm gonna be
a philanthropist i'm gonna help the. That's just like the personality type.
Yeah, that's what we want.
Lacey and I and the crew that we have,
we're never going to be the type of people
that just sit on our ass and just enjoy the lifestyle.
We're actually going to do something productive.
It would get boring anyway.
Dude.
It would just be boring.
Yeah.
Actually, yeah, it would.
I mean, it's dope doing what we do, but at at the end of the day it's like it would it would i could see it getting
pretty repetitive and like becoming like numb to it and but like what's cool what's going to be
cool is going to be like taking care of family members like buying like she's gonna buy her
mama house next year which is gonna be awesome like her mom's gonna you know i've been trying
to do that for my mom i'm trying to get her to move here right it's like the hardest it's one of the hardest discussions you can have with
a parent is like i got you because they're like no you're my kid i'm supposed to have you like
it's not like that you're like no no like i got you like don't worry about it like i'm gonna take
care of you like this is i've worked hard i'm gonna take care of you so we're gonna take care
of family members um and i see myself personally as just being a solid all around dude who's doing
several different things and helping people achieve their dreams and help them reach massive
levels of success. Because that's what I like. I like taking someone's idea or someone's passion
project, lending my expertise in my particular set of skills and helping them reach what they want to reach.
So there's a couple of people I have in mind that are working on passion projects.
There's a kid with like a protein donut company who's in San Diego.
His name is Joey.
He's that stuff's getting out of control.
Dude, anything that's like dessert related.
That's also like protein related.
I actually have a really good idea for you after the show.
We'll talk about it.
Okay.
What's that?
Yeah.
So there's a, there's a niche for it. and if you hit it right and you hit it hard,
you can kill it.
Yeah.
So he's doing well on his own, and I want to help him take it to, like,
a whole new level like I did with Flavor God,
and that's, like, something that eventually I'll reach out to him
and we'll do something cool.
But, yeah, Lacey, we're going to do everything we can to make sure she's a
rock star and performing on stage in front of all of her fans.
And we're going to make sure her music is blown up.
And that's going to be like the main focus over the next year.
But other than that, yeah, just passion projects and giving back and helping people out and just providing a source of inspiration to people who need it.
And basically like if they're like, hey, like I'm not where you are,
but I'm where you were.
How can I get to where you are?
It's like,
Oh yeah,
I want to provide inspiration and tools and motivation to actually reach that.
So that's like one thing I try to do a lot with my Instagram is I try to always bring
up my past and like,
and reflect.
So let people know that like,
I'm not just another one of the dudes that just like has all this cool shit.
Now it's like,
this happened first. Cause like, I feel like a lot of people, I like i'm not just another one of the dudes that just like has all this cool shit now it's like this happened first because like i feel like a lot of people i like your throwback posts we're like like you got your curly hair oh yeah yeah and you got you know
what i mean like you were just starting out and you know what i mean like those are dope because
you you people can see a direct correlation of like the body language that i have in the photos
oh yeah just like my eyes and like just like dead. You're a kid. You're a kid.
You know what I mean?
So yeah, I love stuff like that.
And I love like just showing that that was like what happened.
Because I feel like a lot of times now you just – people are only showing the positive.
Yeah.
And it's just not real life.
Like it's just like it's not relatable.
You can't relate to that.
And it's just like the majority of our followers are not in California.
Right. You know what I mean? So like they're, they don't know what it's like to wake up in an all white $10,000 a month
apartment in Irvine and drive down to the beach and just like,
and get a cup of coffee that costs $8.
And like,
you know what I mean?
Like there's just so many things going on.
That's just like not relatable.
Right.
So I like to like,
for myself,
I like,
I'm really big on like bringing that stuff up and
keeping that motivation factor alive yeah and remembering it for myself right it's so easy to
forget like what you should be grateful for every single day so easy it's so easy to forget i look
at her sometimes and i'm like wow like we get to do what we want every day yeah and not have a boss
and not have to worry about anything like that like
i because i remember and you remember what it was like to you couldn't run you couldn't rub two
niggles together because you're like shit how am i gonna pay my bills like well you know i mean i
was sleeping on a couch with 200 in my pocket yep and i was going to whole foods every single day
taking the food and just sitting down eating it and just be like say something to me wow that's
next level go ahead say something i
will i will body slam you if you try to keep me from eating and i remember i i don't know if you
know this or not i went to a big competition that was everybody i admired yeah it was everybody that
was the biggest rock stars in the business of crossfit and i was nobody i was like someone
who was stealing my food and sleeping on a couch and
like i worked out with no shoes because i didn't have i had one pair of shoes and i like to keep
them clean so i just like worked out barefoot and i went to this competition and i got fucking
second place and i beat like 10 of the most famous crossfitters in the world wow and it just
completely catapulted me and like from that day like my life had changed
dramatically because i had just in my mind like i wasn't even as good as them but like i just was
like there's no chance of me losing this competition yeah it's you had nothing to lose
right so people who have nothing to lose and risk it all and go for it all usually end up in pretty
good shape yeah because they you
know what i mean like you're when you have nothing you have nothing to lose right so it's the people
who have a lot to lose that don't take risks but the people who have nothing to lose go for it but
i genuinely think about that time all the time probably when you lock the doors at night here
you i i'm sure at least several times a week you lock the doors and you're like, I created this.
And I remember when I had $200 and I was sleeping on a couch and this didn't exist.
Right?
Like you probably drive and you –
Dude, I legit cry at least once a month about it.
That's awesome.
Like full on.
Like no one's around and I'll just be in the gym and I'll just be crying and I'll just be like, I can't believe I did this.
Yeah.
All the time.
That's worth crying about though.
That's worth like reminding yourself that
you created something fucking awesome which you have yeah you have and i hope so everybody mad
props at least gets a little motivational boost from both of us right oh yeah dude i was serving
tables yeah five years ago right here in newport beach yeah you're like five years ago that's
crazy couple grand a month i was i was serving. We just ate there today. And I've dropped out of college twice, right?
Don't have a college degree.
I've still got student loans for the two and a half years that I went.
And I literally was like, dude, what am I going to do?
I was 23, and I was like, what am I going to do with my life?
Where am I going to go?
What exactly am I going to do with my life? What, where am I going to go? Like, what, what exactly am I going to accomplish?
I didn't know.
But what I did know is that I had people skills.
I was able to talk to people.
I had.
That's fucking humongous.
Dude, that everyone listening right now, if you, okay.
Your ability to actually have an intelligent conversation with someone will open so many doors for you because they will see
potential in you if you are able to just talk and be like and and and not um not be like a hermit
right like there's a lot of people that just have no social skills like they're at a complete
disadvantage yeah because the people yeah they're scared like oh shit like like i'm sorry but like
doors aren't going to open for you if you're not going to take a risk and go talk to somebody.
I've opened so many – like how do you think I'm dating her, right?
I'm a normal guy dating a celebrity who looks like a freaking Playboy model and like how am I dating her?
It's because I have people skills and I was able to talk to her and be confident and be like, yo, I'm a cool guy.
We should hang out. And then boom,
it just happened. And then we started dating and it's been, you know, several years. So
people skills and confidence in yourself will open up. Even if you have nothing,
like you were still confident in yourself, right? Even when you went into that competition,
you took second, you were confident. You were like, I have nothing, but I'm still going to
go out there and kick some ass. And what happened? You kick some ass and now look where you are you're owner of a fucking badass gym and
you you make money doing what you love right so it's it's it that is something that is absolutely
free is belief in yourself to actually do what you're what you want and actually do what you
say you're going to do that's free like i like that analogy analogy. It's free. It's free. It doesn't cost
anything to believe in yourself. It doesn't. That's not a transaction. That is a moment that
I think successful people have in their life where they, it's almost like, oh, well, you wake up one
day and it hits you. Well, kind of, but it's almost like you look in the mirror one day.
I know I've looked in the mirror several times, and I'm like enough is enough.
Like I'm not going to fail.
I'm not going to fail.
I'm going to figure it out.
And I'm not going to take no for an answer, and I'm not going to let people boss me around or bully me.
And I'm not going to let people tell me that I can't do something.
Tell me I can't do something.
I'll tell you when it's done, right?
People were like – actually, there's a situation.
People actually told me that I would never be able to date her, right?
It's a true story.
People within Shreds, right? She was one of our first ambassadors. All the athletes on Shreds were like, oh yeah, I'm going to get that. I'm going to get that. And I'm not, I wasn't an athlete.
I was a fucking 140 pound like marketing kid, right? Who am I? I didn't have anything. Who am
I to date the hot chick, right? I was like, I'll try. Sure enough, I'm the one that ended up with
her, right? But all of that is because of
a self-confidence and a self-belief and a belief that I am good enough to do things. A lot of
people believe that they're not good enough. They're not good enough for success. They're
not good enough to do big things in their life. They're not good enough to travel the world.
Everyone's good enough. You just got to believe that you are. You're good enough to achieve
certain things. You believed you were good enough to be an awesome gym owner. Now you are. You're good enough to achieve certain things. You believed you were good enough to be
an awesome gym owner. Now you are, right? If you had a shadow of a doubt where you were like,
no, I'm not good enough to open up a CrossFit gym. This CrossFit gym wouldn't exist.
It wouldn't. But you had a moment with yourself when you were sleeping on a couch where you're
like, I am good enough to do this. I am good enough to open a gym. I'm good enough to run
a successful business. I'm good enough to build a clientele. I'm good enough to do this. I am good enough to open a gym. I am good enough to run a successful business. I am good enough to build a clientele. I am good enough to create workouts. I am good enough to expand my knowledge and open it into an online program. And you believe, right? Because that's why you work so hard is because you believe it's going to work. A lot of people just don't believe. They don't believe in themselves. They don't think they actually can and therefore they don't try. So that's step one. They don't believe,
then they don't try, and then nothing happens. They're stuck in the same place. So that's why
people get upset when they're still stuck in the same place you started and you're way past them.
Well, the difference between you and them is mindset. Everything is the mindset. Everything.
You just said enough is
enough i'm tired of sleeping on couches i'm tired of stealing food from whole foods you know what i
mean think about that you went from i pay for it now yeah you pay for it yeah it's amazing think
about that but like you went from whole foods and like say something to me i'm eating this food to
two thousand dollar steaks in dubai yeah you would have never had that experience in dubai had you
not believed in yourself
because no one would have,
no one's going to take a kid off a couch
making $200 in his pocket
and invite him to Dubai on their dime.
Somebody invited you to Dubai on their dime
because they saw something in you
and they were like,
yo, you're a fucking cool dude.
I'm going to invite you to Dubai.
I'm going to comp your whole trip.
You're going to live like a king for three weeks.
And that all started, why?
Because you had a belief in yourself that you were going to be something great.
And there you go.
Now you have a successful business.
You get to travel the world.
We're going to Japan.
We're going to do some snowboarding.
You know what I mean?
Like we're going to do some cool shit.
But the reason that you and I are able to do cool shit and travel the world and go snowboarding, which we're going to go, I firmly believe.
We better go at least once. I'm going to go go probably twice a month i'm down to go this weekend
just in case okay just in case if i don't go to vegas with the boys and her i'll go with you
absolutely um what you said canada canada or uh or colorado colorado okay that's just a quick flight
right yeah they both just have good amount of snow right now dude yes okay so um absolutely but yeah
so the reason why you and i are able to do the things that we want to do and
have the freedom that we have is because we believe in ourselves enough and we've created
something.
But also communication with people.
Correct.
One of the most successful people I ever met in my life, he told me the first thing you
better put on your resume is that you communicate well with people.
Yep.
That's what he told me.
Yep.
People skills.
He's like, I don't give a fuck about any of the other stuff he's like just put the
first thing i communicate well with people and i learn quick yeah and that's what he said he said
if i read that i'm already interested you can you can put harvard and this and that and blah blah
and he's like and i have 10 other resumes that have that on there yeah and he's like but if you
don't communicate well with people i don't want to hang out with you personally right we're gonna have a hard time
right and i was like damn that really matters more to you so people ask me all the time like
how do i get a job at your gym or how do i get to right how about this other job come in and
introduce yourself yeah and have a good vibe and a good energy and you'll get hired you know what
i mean like we we have access to certain things and we are friends with certain people because
we're cool and we have people skills.
We would never have the success that we have or access to like the private jets and the lifestyle that we have and like the mansions that we have if we weren't cool.
Like if – you know what I mean?
I mean that's a loose term.
But like if we weren't good with people and we didn't communicate well. We communicate exceptionally well with everyone we come in contact with,
and we leave people with a good feeling after we have spent time with them that they want to see
us again, or they want to hang out with us. So they're like, you know, you're already talking
about like, dude, we got to talk about some stuff after we get out of the podcast. Well, yeah,
it's because you and I vibe so well, like we have a good energy, right? It's like,
if you can create a great positive energy about yourself to when you walk into any
room everybody wants to everybody gravitates towards you that's when you know you're doing
something right if you're off in the corner and you're not really social and you're like eh
i'm not really vibing like i'll just duck out early like that's when you know that maybe you
need to work on your people skills because if you're if you're a social butterfly and you're
able to like talk about different topics and you know and be intelligent in a conversation you're
gonna open up a lot of doors that's how you network so i faced i had a lot of fears with
public speaking and talking to people but i faced that by serving tables i was like all right well
i gotta make money and i gotta pay bills so i'm just gonna serve tables and work on my people
skills in the meantime and then that flipped into an opportunity and then that opportunity
flipped into an opportunity but that's all because i built my confidence and my belief in myself
and then now i'm here i like that now we're now we're chilling now we're going
to japan so now i'm stoked though we're gonna have some fun now that's really really cool yeah
is there anything that we missed i don't know we talked for a while i feel like we're pretty good
i feel like this podcast is lit so where can um the people find you and all the things you have
going on and maybe Lacey here.
