Fat loss is annoying.
It's like a never-ending to-do list
that every single morning, when you look in the mirror,
you recognize and it gets pushed further and further
and further down that list.
Metabolisms are confusing.
Who actually even understands all the chemical
and hormonal reactions that happen in your body
on a daily basis?
Building muscle is hard.
You have to go do the work.
You gotta go to the gym.
You gotta lift the weights.
Resistance training is difficult. It takes time and hard work to build muscle. And you are ready to transform
your body. You likely need to lose between 10 and 20 pounds. You likely need to lose between 20 and
30 pounds. There's a good chance that you've tried diets before and none of them have worked and the reason that you have not had success on past diets
has nothing to do with your metabolism, the macronutrients, or the muscle that you need
to build to have long-term success. My name is Anders Varner. Welcome to episode 7 of the Diesel
Dad. In today's episode, what I want to talk about is the very first step.
Yes, the system that we use, we call the M3 system for losing body fat, optimizing your metabolism,
and building muscle so you can have a strong, lean, and athletic body that you're proud of.
We help busy dads build that strong, lean, and athletic body without sacrificing family,
fatherhood, or fitness. But I can tell you everything that you need to know.
A quick Google search is going to help you understand
anything you need to know about your metabolism.
There's millions of articles about your metabolism.
You can study macronutrients.
You can listen to Barbell Shrug,
thousands and thousands of episodes,
and learn everything you need to know about macronutrients
and how to implement them into
your life. You also can listen to all the episodes on building muscle. You can google
building muscle. All of those pieces are out there. Our core principles and how we get you
to the what, which is losing between 10 and 20 pounds or 20 to 30 pounds, depending upon where you're at, how we get you there is those three components.
But the why in what we do is significantly more important. See, at the baseline of transformation,
what we need to do is understand that where you are today is a product of the habits and the
systems that you have created in your life that led you to a point
in which losing to 20, 30 pounds is necessary. Could it be overeating? Yeah, totally. Could it
be that you haven't been on a good training plan? Could it be that you don't use progressive
overload? You're not using free weights. You're not fully understanding the full capabilities of
your movement capacity. Absolutely. It could also
be the fact that maybe you do have a slow metabolism. Maybe you're the special person
that has a 0.01% chance that you just actually were born with a slower metabolism. Maybe you
don't move throughout the day and all of it's led up to a specific point. Any of that is relatively individualized to what you specifically are doing. But the reason
all the diets haven't worked, the reason that you have not had the transformation that you've had,
the reason that you continually go in the wrong direction when it comes to understanding where
your body is at, because we have to face the facts. If you're 10 pounds overweight today and you're not implementing
healthy habits, it's going to be 15 pounds in three weeks. It's going to be 20 pounds in six
months. It's going to be 30 pounds in a year. This cascade of fat gain and weight gain does not stop.
You have to understand that where you're at today,
unless there is a dramatic change,
is going to continue.
And it's going to progressively get worse.
Nobody wants this.
And this is why at the top of the to-do list,
fat loss is probably on the list,
but it's a pain to think about because it's hard.
And you got to want it.
And this is the thing that
is the most important piece that is going to help you lose the first 10 pounds you don't need to
talk about your metabolism first you don't need to talk about macronutrients first and you don't need
to talk about muscle first what you need to do is look in the mirror and you have to draw a line in
the sand and say today the old person dies.
All those old habits, you know what they are.
You know what those habits are that get you to a place.
You probably enjoy snacking in front of the TV at night
because it feels good.
You probably don't cook as many meals as you should.
There's a good chance that you order pizza
on a Friday night because it makes you feel great.
All of those pieces.
But we have to dig even deeper than that, right?
We're all busy dads.
We all have kids.
We all have families.
And the problem is, is when you sit down at dinner at night, you look around and you're
not proud of the product.
You're not proud of the conversation that you have around health and nutrition.
You're not, you're not happy with the way that your family looks.
And the way that that shows up in life is,
how active are you when you're outside playing with your kids?
When soccer practice happens, do you want to be the coach?
Is it hindering you from being coached because you can't actually get up and go run around the field?
Or you feel bad that you can't be actively playing
all the time.
See, these are the real whys behind the Diesel Dad
and why we put this program together,
because we want to build strong, lean,
and athletic parents, strong, lean, and athletic dads
that are living their life in the arena.
They're not on the sidelines wishing they
could do things, wishing they could be an active part of people's families. So when I say you can
lose 10 pounds immediately without having to worry about macronutrients, your metabolism,
and building muscle, what I'm saying is that I need you to think about who that person is 12 weeks down the line. I need
you to understand who you are in six months. I need you to understand what your life looks like
in a year. Because if we start to put those pieces together, if you start to actually look at where
you're going and associate some feelings with that person. So in a year, you've lost 30 pounds.
In a year, you maybe lost 20 pounds.
And who is that person?
You're more confident.
You have the ability to go play.
You have the ability of freedom, physical freedom.
You also aren't subject to being a victim of food. You're not walking around
birthday parties being arrogant about your diet. You just live by a specific standard.
You live by a code of health. Does it mean you can't have the pizza? No, of course not. But it
doesn't mean that you need to eat the entire pizza. Can you
have ice cream on a Saturday night? Of course. But what we want to build and what's going to
initially help you lose that very first 10 pounds is having that vision of who you are in the future.
Having that vision of who you are in six months, in 12 months. What does it feel like in six months when you've lost 20 pounds?
What does it feel like in 12 months when you're down 30 pounds?
And take out a pen and paper and write those feelings down.
Write down what that person looks like.
And you can start to work backwards to what are those habits?
What does the day-to-day look like
me personally when i think about how i can live a strong healthy strong lean and athletic life
and how i can lead my family and have a better conversation about nutrition movement lifestyle
because the conversation to me isn't about telling people to eat their vegetables,
it's about me eating the vegetables
and me creating a standard of health
so that we don't ever have to tell people what to do.
How many times do you have to tell you, save your money?
But if you're out spending money
and blowing it on nothing,
you have Amazon orders showing up your door
every 25 minutes, Who's actually leading by
example in your household? If you're telling your kids to go eat their vegetables, you're pointing
your finger, you need to be healthy and you're 30 pounds overweight, they're not going to listen
because they don't have anybody in their house that is showing them what to do. They're not seeing the benefits
of living a strong, lean, and athletic life.
They don't know what it looks like to have a metabolism
that is fueled by movement and works optimally.
They don't know what macronutrients are,
how to make a plate of food, or how to cook a dinner.
They don't understand how to build muscle.
They don't know the importance of working out, and they definitely don't have a good conversation about it. In fact, when you start
to think about putting those pieces together, there's a really good chance that your kids and
your family are looking at external sources to bring in the education that they're looking for,
even if they're looking for it. Health may not even be talked about. You see, the thing is that the person that's listening to this right now, you,
you have a history in health.
You have a history with strength training.
You have a history in fat loss.
You could specifically remember a time in which you got to the gym regularly.
It was probably your favorite place.
It was a time in life in which you felt the most alive. And then you became a dad. Unfortunately, lifting weights worked for you.
You worked out hard. You ate whatever you want. You probably went out a couple nights a week.
You partied. You had a great time with your friends. And because you were 25 to 32 years old,
it all broke even. You were burning a number of
calories throughout the day that allowed you to go and eat and drink and party and hang out as
much as you wanted. Those two things balanced each other. And when you're 30 years old,
it all works. But the problem is at some point you're going to become 35. You're going to become
38. And that working
out once you have kids is going to have to be a consolidated amount of time. And the nutrition,
if you don't change it, stays in the same pattern that it was when you were 25, 27 years old.
You can no longer just eat whatever you want because you're not working out as long as you'd
like. Those things become out of balance. And what happens is you get soft and then you think,
ah, well, no big deal.
I can just stay soft for a little bit.
It'll all right itself.
I'll have more time later.
Five pounds turns to 10, 10 turns to 20, 20 turns to 30 and now you're looking at this
to do list that is so long and so hard and what really needs to happen, the very first step
to losing your very first 10 pounds is drawing a line in the sand and saying no more.
You cannot go on with the same habits and same lifestyle that you lived a decade ago
in today's world.
It's only going to get worse.
This is the main point that we solve with the Diesel Dad. We have
built an entire community around people that are taking responsibility for their actions and
understanding that it starts with you. You have to draw a line in the sand to understand that the
very first 10 pounds is on you. And it's so simple because once you start to understand who the person is
in six months, who the person is in 12 months, and you start to write out or think about what
are the behaviors? What are the patterns? How does this person live their life? What are the
thoughts? What are the feelings that they have? Likely, words like confidence are going to come into play.
Words like competence.
You are a person that gets things done.
You do them well and you feel good about yourself.
And the reason you feel good about yourself
and you're able to get high quality work done
and live a fulfilling life is because you move well.
It's because you eat well.
It's because you move well, it's because you eat well, it's because you train well,
and it's a way for you to live a strong, lean, and athletic life in which you are living
your life in the arena.
You are an active participant.
You are putting yourself out there and you are in the arena.
You are not on the sidelines.
You are not sitting there waiting for something to happen. You have drawn a line in the arena. You are not on the sidelines. You are not sitting there waiting for something to happen.
You have drawn a line in the sand. You have created a standard of living. You will no longer
dip below that point. You will only increase the bar on yourself. Personal responsibility
is the number one tool that you need to lose the first 10 pounds. And it starts with figuring out who you want to be
in six months. When you lose the 10 to 20 pounds, who are you? What does it look like?
Attach emotion to that. What does it feel like when you've lost the 20 to 30 pounds?
What activities are you able to do?
How do you feel doing those activities?
How much has the culture in your household changed because you have adopted a healthy
lifestyle?
