Starting point is 00:06:06 Number one fan, Hunter. Enjoy the show. See you guys. You are touching the sky. You're going to the CrossFit Games. Welcome to Barbell Shrug. That beautiful voice singing to you is Hunter McIntyre. Doug Larson is here.
Starting point is 00:06:19 We're at the FitAid booth. I'm Anders Varner. The Granite Games 2019. Dude, your first big CrossFit competition. It feels super big. Don't you feel like, I mean, all the athletic accomplishments you've had in your life, and now you are at the Granite Games in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Oh, I just lost me.
Starting point is 00:06:39 I'm turning down a little bit. Oh, uh-oh. Tell me about this big competition here. This is like the only one you're doing leading up to the games, right? Yeah. I mean, I've definitely done some things in between now and the Open that have, like, you know, tested my met a little bit. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:54 But this is probably the first time I've had to show up and be in shape and people could criticize me based on, like, what I've done. And I think I've shown up and done my thing. Yeah. I'm having an absolute blast. No offense to any other of the competitions here, whether it's pro female, male, teen, masters, but I think the toughest field right now is team.
Starting point is 00:07:17 I am unbelievably blown away by the amount of athletes that are here by team. It's freaking crazy. Besides Mayhem and maybe one other team, I think all the super teams that are in the world right now are sitting on that floor and it's awesome to watch yeah the we interviewed alex smith and jessica griffith their whole team that's a lot of individual games athletes it's amazing and they really like each other they're friends like it's an actual team. Yeah. I think this is the first year where Mayhem had their actual team. Tommy Hackenbrook had his actual team back in the day. But it seems like there's many actual teams where there's these traveling groups of people going around and doing the fitness.
Starting point is 00:07:58 Yeah, it's mind-blowing. Another really cool thing about team is you can watch everybody in team, even though it's very serious, is having a having a really good time yeah everyone's laughing like giving each other high fives i went and i during into the warm-ups during like some of the individual times and everybody is stone cold like quiet yeah no emotion whatever it's like when you stand at the starting line of like world championships you're staring everyone down all the time you have to posture like no one can fuck you up. And then the teams, everyone's like, cool, we're all here. Let's go party. Well, not me.
Starting point is 00:08:29 I'm always partying. But, yeah, this has been a pretty cool experience. I'm really pumped to be here. When you're backstage, by the way, is it like you're cool with everyone? Or is it like everyone kind of like looking at you and like, what's that guy doing here? Like, what's the vibe backstage, like away from the crowd? It's kind of like the zoo.
Starting point is 00:08:46 Everybody's a bunch of different animals, and everybody, you know, they're trying to walk the beat of their own drum type thing. But then I think on social media, everybody looks at each other, and it's like a thing, and it's an idea. But then when you're face-to-face and you're, like, you know, person-to-person, it's a lot more real, and it's hard to have those kind of harsh emotions that people keep on, like, broadcasting online. Like, everybody that's had beef with me online so far, I'm now talking to and standing next to and giving them high fives and talking strategy.
Starting point is 00:09:14 Brent and I have whatever beef we did have, if there ever was one, was squashed very quickly. You know, a couple other athletes. There's a couple buttholes here, but in reality, like, I don't care. There's a couple buttholes everywhere. Yeah, there's a couple buttholes here, but in reality, I don't care. There's a couple buttholes everywhere. Yeah, there's a couple buttholes everywhere. Yeah, how are you going to stand next to Hunter McIntyre with a big smile on his face having the most fun ever? You just got to the CrossFit Games and like, screw you, dude.
Starting point is 00:09:35 You're a super jerk. You're a jerk. My friend wants to be on TV more than you. He deserves it because he hasn't done shit in the last 10 years except work out. Yeah, well, at this point, I think the nerves, like, in the very beginning, it was just, like, high intensity, high nerves, like, what the fuck is going on? Who is this guy?
Starting point is 00:09:53 And everyone's just, like, throwing rocks and freaking the fuck out. And now that I'm here and I'm meeting a lot of these people, it's cool. Like, some people are like, I hated you, and then I watched you compete with other people, and now I hate you a little bit less. I'm like, that's my entire goal this weekend is to learn a little bit and get just a little bit less hate out there. Well, I think that, like, hanging out, especially over the last couple years, of, like, knowing you and watching you train for this thing
Starting point is 00:10:16 that you didn't even know was going to happen, your body, like, I feel like if somebody was like, oh, the OCR guy's going to crossfit they would they would expect this like skinny runner guy to show up and like think he's gonna hang out but you've completely changed your body your training like you put on 25 pounds would you say my body is a wonderland it is majestic yeah it is a majestic piece of art you've put together over here well you know uh i had to put a lot of work in i think since the last time i saw you guys i was probably like two months out of ocr training we had met up
Starting point is 00:10:50 at um spartan race world championships we had a couple brews we were shooting the shit most fun show ever best of all time you guys definitely got to go back and listen that thing um but i had i was just at the beginning of my transformation and i was really kind of starting to understand what it took to have this body of, take this body through time and space of CrossFit rather than through obstacle course racing. And since then, dude, I've been injured a bunch. I've gained a lot of weight. I've gained a lot of skill.
Starting point is 00:11:15 Like, you know, it's just this up and down. It's crazy. So standing in front of you here right now is like a trial and error, like probably like the 3 or 4.0, like, you know, hone edition how old are you uh 30 oh dude yeah so you you kind of found the lifting really heavy weights olympic lifting squatting like being on those programs at a really great time like your body was primed to get big and strong yeah it's interesting like i never have the problem with the amount of volume that goes on my body from CrossFit. The only problem I have now is when technique fails me and I just get these little tweaks. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:50 Like, I was doing, the biggest problems I've run into so far is doing, like, really, really heavy squat cleans. Like, I can hurt my lower back and, like, you know, tweak something right there. Like, just having the smallest bit of technique off with just too much weight took me out. And touch and go snatches. But everything else, else dude my body's really primed for it like we're six workouts in this weekend and i i'm totally fine i could do another 10 and i'd be still in the same shape i'm in now i can't wait to see when those like grind events show up that's what i'm most excited about dominate people in that stuff because they don't realize like I think a lot of people in CrossFit go to the gym and train like a CrossFitter
Starting point is 00:12:30 technically should train. Like if you were to draw it up on paper like here's your workout for the day. Go to the gym and do it. Dude, you're out in the middle of the freaking Malibu Mountains throwing rocks around, hanging out with strongmen. Your training is very different than most of these people. Like you have the CrossFit piece but there there's a whole different element of fun
Starting point is 00:12:48 and grind that you put in on those trails and being out in the backwoods of Malibu. Well, a big part of this weekend. Grinding out there. All day, dude. The Malibu grind is way different than people assume. There's the beach folk in Malibu, and I live up in the hills in Alabama. All right? There's rattlesnakes.
Starting point is 00:13:07 There's a lot of dirt out there. There's wild animals testing my metal every day. It is that. Just happens to be in the middle of an art gallery, too. It is a really nice art gallery. But there's wood chips everywhere, and sometimes they get in my eyes. Realistically, another part of this weekend was seeing how hard I could push my body and still talk shit. So a lot of people are getting upset with me.
Starting point is 00:13:29 Some people are. Other people have been having a lot of fun. But, like, during the sled push workout out there, we had a sled push, run around the football field, sled push, run around the football field. I would go as hard as I could after the sled push and get up next to the front teams and start talking a little trash with them. All still my friends. Like, there's a picture I posted of the same dancer and i run next to each other but i was like dude this is what it's going to take and i was like if i can take it to these guys and push that you know push the envelope a little bit yeah show them that i can just my lungs
Starting point is 00:13:55 i'm not even feeling it right now i want you guys to know that i was like how much longer you guys want to do this workout because i could do this all day yeah so when you're talking shit to the serious competitors do they think you're not taking this whole thing seriously? Like you're making a mockery of their whole thing they trained their whole life for, like not knowing how much work you really put into it? Everybody has their own option and their own opinion. Like, you know, if you want to take anything and receive anything and make it a negative thing or a positive thing, that's on you.
Starting point is 00:14:19 The only reason I'm injecting myself into this space is to test myself. It has nothing to do with anybody else in the room. I'm not going to the games to compete against anybody. I'm going to the games to go see if through my hard years of work as an athlete actually matches up next to these other athletes. I think that's the whole reason why the wild card was proposed. It's to see if other athletes can contend in this space and to see if each level of fitness is competitive or if their
Starting point is 00:14:46 level of fitness is superior my version of competing is has always been hey hunter like you have this incredible body and this incredible opportunity out there but understand a big part of being like a high level athlete is using the strength of your mind and that's not just only in using strategy but also using the way that you insert yourself in that space some athletes just like you know you can even tell like some people are non-verbal and they their way of just asserting that they're doing really well in the workout is never putting their hands on their hips or their knees for me the way i can tell you guys that i'm a fucking beast is like hey i just want to remind you that i just got off that rower like two minutes
Starting point is 00:15:23 ahead of you and now i'm on to the next thing and I'm watching you and I'm not even breathing hard I got 15 more week workouts this weekend I could double that and I'm fine like you know I go to the bar every single night and I let everybody know when I got here that I was drinking beers last night while you guys were resting you know putting little band-aids on your wounds I feel fantastic I only need to sleep two hours last night because that wasn't much of a challenge yesterday so that's the reality of it like you know and it's not i'm not making this stuff up it's the reality i was at the bar with you yeah i can vouch for you you did have a few drinks last night it's totally cool and you know some people's strategy i remember listening to an interview with brant vikowski he was like i haven't drank beer in six months and
Starting point is 00:16:03 like that's a really like important for me to know that like I had that mental fortitude and that discipline to not drink beer and for me I know my mental fortitude and strength is if I'm not a pussy I can drink beer and I can go crush because this vessel right here is a titan's vessel yeah and you could put anything like you know vikings back in the day they used to drink beer they used to stay up late and then they'd show up on the battlefield and they'd kick some fucking ass. A lot of women and a lot of partying. Damn right, dude.
Starting point is 00:16:29 And that's the way I work in this space. And some people, you know, they go differently. In a serious manner, though, you think about the champion's mindset a lot. There is a deeper side to you doing all these things and honing your vision of what a champion does and how they act and everything you do. Totally, man. I've always been a very big advocate of learning about what other big players in the game do, whether it be sports, whether it be warriors, whether it be generals, whether it be businessmen, businesswomen, whoever it is. You try to find these high level operators and even though they may be in
Starting point is 00:17:06 a different lifestyle or different stream of work everybody has their way of handling things and you can always i love going to walk around all these booths watch the salesman work watch the athlete work everything like that you should always take little pieces because the way that i work the way that they work there's a reason why they're in that space and there's a reason why i'm here right now there's a lot of people who are fitter than i am or just as fit that they work, there's a reason why they're in that space, and there's a reason why I'm here right now. There's a lot of people who are fitter than I am or just as fit as I am, but there's a reason why every single time that I show up to a race, I always end up on the podium. If you look at my VO2 max, you look at my deadlift,
Starting point is 00:17:39 probably matching a lot of the people in this room right here. Why am I going to be where I am at the end of the weekend? A lot to do with that mental strategy. For the times where you are getting really, really tired, you're hitting your threshold, your red line, what does that mental conversation in your own head, what does that sound like? How do you talk to yourself?
Starting point is 00:17:58 Well, so I just retested a regionals workout, thrusters and rope climbs. I did it at Heppner's Barn this last summer and I think it like the time cap was maybe like seven minutes and I finished in like high six and now I'm at the bottom side of like the low four and realistically am I that much better? No I just am more in tune with what it takes to move weight like that and more in tune to understand how to pace this sport a little bit better so I've actually trained myself and I'm sure a lot of people who are high like high level athletes listening to this they know exactly when the bar is time to be put down like I watched
Starting point is 00:18:34 yesterday Travis Williams was on his 19th rep of a 20 rep front squat and he put it down and I was like dude why the heck did you do that you could have got one more and then I just like sat there and thought about it I was like he probably would have missed that last rep and it would probably held him back for like an extra 15-20 seconds and every single high level operator who's in that space like you know knows exactly when to let go and you know for me pacing has always been a humongous part of what I do I always always just like, I tie my shoes right, I put my shorts on tight, and I make my strategy just perfect so that nothing falls apart in between. And I'm almost never at the point in a workout where I'm like, I fucked up. Yeah. How many other people got this invite that you did? I think zero. I don't know. I think you're the, when know. I don't know all the athletes in all the sports,
Starting point is 00:19:27 but when I think about who would actually be able to show up to the CrossFit Games and actually make an impact, I think you might be the only one that's actually capable of going out and really making an impact on the overall competition. Like, winning is not probably in the cards. No, that's not my goal yeah but going in and like having a real impact on the results over 12 15 workouts there's going to be eight of them that you smash that you do very very well in and i'm super excited about that i um i think there's other athletes like I don't know how much they're really,
Starting point is 00:20:05 really putting emphasis on this thing. And, you know, maybe there are people on the team that are really, their job was to do that research all year long, and now they're just starting to execute on it. But if I had to pick a perfect team, it'd probably be somebody like a strong man, like that guy Martins that I was just working out with because of his capacity and his strength. Where'd you find that guy? Oddly enough one of my training partners Jake who
Starting point is 00:20:30 calls himself Strong Bong he I think it's Strong Bong Lifts on Instagram. He's hysterical he loves to rip humongous bongs and like he put a mask on at my house with a bong attached to it. Did a 500 pound deadlift while pulling the bong,
Starting point is 00:20:47 and no-repped it like six times and still kept on going. Got it finally. He'd done like six bong rips at that point. Like a gas mask of weed. Yeah, it's crazy. And he would sit down. After we'd done training, he sits down and he's just like, we always watch YouTube videos just to kind of stay motivated
Starting point is 00:21:03 and come up with new ideas for training. And he showed me Martins and uh I was like I looked him up and I was like dude you're in Newberry Park I was like I have to work out with you yeah but he's incredible like it'd be good whether whoever the strong man might be it'd be awesome to have him um I don't know if a triathlete would be a great idea. Too skinny. Yeah. I think being able to get, like, a really well-versed military tactical athlete would be really good. Yeah. And, you know, triathlete wouldn't be great. And maybe a rugby player, like Australian rules football rugby player,
Starting point is 00:21:36 because those guys can slam cardio and really heavyweight. Yeah. We've got, like, eight weeks until you actually step on the floor, maybe nine. What is like the plan going forward for the next nine weeks? Like are you trying to get better or is this just we made it? Let's get in good shape, stay injury free, and go party. So I'll give it to you. What do you got?
Starting point is 00:21:59 Every single year I go to training camp in Colorado. And last year I did Park City randomly. So what I usually do in these times is it's much more intense work and much more rest. So, like, I've already put in so much lifting and things like that throughout the year. I'm not going to try to increase my lifts. Yeah. I'm basically going to try to do things like big sets of clusters on squats and just practice like holding a 225-pound front squat over 20 reps or something like that.
Starting point is 00:22:30 And do that maybe once or twice a week. And the rest of the time is going to be very, very slow cardio and super, super intense work. And I just go up into the mountains, get all those extra red blood cells. I don't know why you guys don't do altitude training. It's a superstar move. If you're listening, take advantage of it. And just stay away from distractions.
Starting point is 00:22:52 I think the biggest thing that can get in the way of a superstar performance is distractions, at least for me. I don't have a family yet, and I don't have a job, and I don't have anything else. I just have my mind and what do they call it? Idle hands is the devil's playground. You've got to stay the fuck away from distractions.
Starting point is 00:23:14 I would say, I'd like to think that your training, dude, I watch you go out to the mountains and do this stuff. I think a lot of people hear your mouth, hear you talking, it's fun, it's a little off the wall, you've got the big hair, the crazy outfits, but they don your mouth, hear you talking. It's fun. It's a little off the wall. You've got the big hair, the crazy outfits, but they don't realize how hard you work to get to the level of athlete that you are.
Starting point is 00:23:33 30 hours a week, man. I say 30 hours a week. It is the commitment. It's every minute of every day. Like, you've actually designed your entire life. Like, we joke around that you're in Malibu and it's beautiful and all this, but you're up early. You're banging it out on mountains all day long you come back you train like what is
Starting point is 00:23:50 the regimen that you've kind of ingrained in your life and the sacrifices that go on to allow you to actually get to this level um i think every single year it's trimming off the fat a little bit finding things that create less opportunity and just create more negativity um i'm not one of those like kind of i'm not trying to be one of those like you know preachers of like you know uh negativity blah blah blah but negativity and the word no are probably like the two biggest words in my vocabulary right now like if there's any negativity from it it's got to be let go and using the word no to basically let people know how focused you are is super important. You know, my mom just called me the other day.
Starting point is 00:24:28 It's my brother's wedding, and my brother's my best friend. He's getting married. It's the last of the boys getting married. And his wedding is the weekend of July 4th. I'm going to come in. It will be a rest week before I get my last big tune-up week before the games. And I'm flying out Sunday, the day after the wedding. And my mom's like, it's super important to me that you guys stay on Sunday.
Starting point is 00:24:48 And I was like, Mom, I'm not. It's just not happening. It doesn't matter what's going on. There's not one person in the world who can change my mind. And she got really upset, and, you know, a couple days later she called me back, and she's like, I actually really respect your decision. It took a while, but, you know, you're going to have to hurt a lot of people's feelings and then only and people don't understand it in the moment but then you know just spending like that last like you know let's say it took
Starting point is 00:25:14 you all year it took you five years to train up to this moment and then you stand up on a podium and standing up on the podium may last like 30 seconds you hold a picture you hold a check like that's the only time people recognize why sacrifice was valuable and like even if you don't make it like which is even worse people don't understand why sacrifice is valuable so you know if i could give you guys an exactness of my what the next two months looks like it's uh basically i wake up in the morning uh i have the best friends around me my buddies make me laugh all the time. Super important having them. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:48 We're going to work out three hours a day. We're going to eat. We're going to play frisbee golf. We're going to spend lots of time in the sauna, and I'm going to play so much fucking Halo, it's going to blow your mind. Well, you have to have that support system. Like, your training crew up there, I mean, I only – I guess we hung out with a couple of them when we did your Malibu Mountain Retreat.
Starting point is 00:26:08 Hell, yeah. Which was basically just a 12-hour training session. Damn right. Lots of personal development going on on that first 12-mile hike. Did you know you were getting yourself into a 12-hour training session when you came up there? No. We started with a really delicious breakfast. It was gorgeous.
Starting point is 00:26:25 That was an easy version of the day. I know we walked instead of running the 12 miles. But yeah, we just showed up and it was great. It was just everyone's kind of looking around like, OK, so are we doing the retreat part anytime or are we just going to go hike? And then I love bringing people into that experience because I don't I don't think I want to get people off their phones. I want to get people to move their bodies as much as possible
Starting point is 00:26:47 and then just understand if you even took 10% of the amount of movement that we just did today and inject that into your daily life, you will be 10x better. Well, yeah, you've created an environment. You've created the training, like friendships and group of people. Who else is in the circle? I mean, your training crew is pretty awesome. like friendships and group of people, who else is in the circle? I mean, your training crew is pretty awesome.
Starting point is 00:27:11 You clearly have positioned yourself to live in a place and then go to Colorado. You've got the training environments that are perfect for what you want to be doing. Do you have like a business support staff that helps with? I'll give you the latter. Yeah. Top of the ladder, most important, probably rung of it all is my family. Talk to to my dad i talk to my mom and talk to my brother garrett every single day um even if it's like for 30 seconds it's just important they keep me uh they keep me humble humble but they also keep me motivated you know my family's relentless i stand in front of them
Starting point is 00:27:41 i tell them how hard i work and they definitely respect it but they make fun of me like you know you just bop around in the gym all day. That's the best part about this whole thing. I have to go to work, so you're going to go hang out with your friends. My wife didn't even know we brought Greg Pitts. She's like, wait a second. That's just your friend. Yeah, I know. No, but he built our website. No, no, no. He's just your friend. You're just hanging out. That's basically my lifestyle. You got the family next is probably you know family and friends i'll just group them in together like you know i'm really lucky to have uh my roommates kempson and cole they're they're gonna push me
Starting point is 00:28:15 really hard this summer um then it goes you know coaches and goes coaches and business partners um top of the list has got to be my buddy Augie. Surprisingly, when I was doing modeling 10 years ago, I had this really, really great guy who owned the agency, and he wasn't one of the bookers. He was the chief financial officer, and he understood how stupid and crazy I was. He was like, you're going to be really successful,
Starting point is 00:28:40 but he was like, you're not catching your stride right now, and understand that's okay. He was always super, super cool and always kept an eye out for me even though i was like just wrecking the world around me uh and you know we always stayed friends and then when the momentum of this business picked up he came in and started supporting me i was like dude i was like i'm my head's spinning i'm going all over the place there's so much going on he's like i got your back so he's huge augie i love you man um my Mike Tramello, you know, he's just been a believer in me forever. He's like, whenever you decide to go for CrossFit, it's like it's right there for you.
Starting point is 00:29:13 Just put the work in. So Mike's been big. Down the line, I got a good girlfriend. I got good people. I got good opportunities. I got good sponsors. Like FitAid is also another massive part of this uh fit aid just like believing in the fact that what i did was attainable you know they spent
Starting point is 00:29:33 a lot of money and they spent like you know they sacrificed you know they've got all these other people they could have supported and they you know aaron and orion they were both like go for it dude they let me do so much stupid stuff every single year, and we all have a great time with it. They keep people around. Yeah. We were talking about it yesterday. Nobody seems to – there's not a literal turn rate. What's that?
Starting point is 00:29:51 With the LifeAid-sponsored athletes. It's incredible. They support you guys really well. I was on Forbes the other day. They did an interview with me. It's called Sports Money where they interview, like, you know, big impacts and financial parts of the sports industry. And they were like, you know, tell us about your sponsorship. And, you know, even though I parts of uh the sports industry and they're like
Starting point is 00:30:05 you know tell us about your sponsorship and you know even though i would love to work with a company like nike underarmor all that kind of stuff like it's that's a premier thing i don't think people understand and respect enough what it's like to work with a brand that's like a you know just started in the the smallest tier and then just built themselves up to be a big player in this space. Yeah. You know, it's this kind of mom and pop feeling where I could call Aaron or Ryan anytime and they'd pick up the phone call and they always got my back. Yeah. There's nothing cooler than going up to Santa Cruz, having like a radical business meeting
Starting point is 00:30:36 and then Aaron's like, so we're all going to hang out at the house tonight. Yeah, dude. Life's cooking dinner. Let's end all this crap and go have some fun. How often do you get to work with the CEO of a company where they let you stay over the night at the house? That's what I got to do. There's actually no other option. You have to stay there.
Starting point is 00:30:51 Yeah, otherwise you try to get home, you get eaten by the bears out there. Right. So, you know, it's been incredible to have this kind of support. I've never been a team athlete, but I have a team behind me that makes it a team sport. Yeah. Yeah. The business side of it, though, I think it kind of just finds you. Like, you probably haven't been waking up every day like,
Starting point is 00:31:16 I'm going to go be a player in the business world or, like, putting programs out, but you start doing that. Yeah. That stuff just happens when you continually live this life that you're living to chase greatness and be the best person you can be or whatever whatever path you're going down business kind of finds you because you're the best at what you do i think if you're a hard worker people see that um there was one thing you could it's like you know there's like a nascar and then there's the driver you could have a superstar car but if you don't have a good driver behind it it's's not going to do very much. And all of these athletes out here are superstar cars, but the driver is what's between the ears. And I think you can see companies want to align themselves with somebody who really lives the life and enjoys themselves
Starting point is 00:31:56 and speaks to a product or some kind of business strategy that they're involved with, and they fully believe in it. And the two of them can coexist. Yeah. strategy that they're involved with and they they fully believe in it and the two of them can coexist yeah you know i think fit aid is one of the very few companies that has the same amount of energy as me and provides like a very good honest product for the for the area so like that's why i've been with them all along that's why we're with them that's why we're right here too i feel like these people just dude i wake up every morning i'm like what's laura lie up to how do i get on the phone with her to make some more cool shit happen? I FaceTime Lorelei all the time. Right?
Starting point is 00:32:27 Isn't it the best? She picks up. You're like, Lorelei, are you thinking about me? Do you want to hang out? Should we do cool events? That's why we're doing the one-ton challenge. One-ton challenge, I was about to say. I was like, what are your numbers?
Starting point is 00:32:37 What are you going to do on it? I was actually, if you didn't make it to the games, I was so excited for you to do the one-ton challenge. I would have wrecked. Let's say, perfect, I would like excited for you to do the one-ton challenge. I would have wrecked. Let's say perfect. I would like to pull 535, 440 dead. Back maybe 385, 395. Bench, 285, 295.
Starting point is 00:32:59 Snatch, let's say 240, 250. Clean. I would hope I could get that 300, but I'm probably going to be a 290. And then jerk. Do you pull it off the rack? You can take it off the rack or blocks, whatever you want. Pull it off the rack. I'm 300 easy.
Starting point is 00:33:15 You can jerk through bills? Yeah. Solid. Fantastic. I mean, I hit 295 like two months ago. Yeah. And I haven't really been on like a jerk cycle or anything like that. What about you? I've been on a big jerk cycle or anything like that. But I'll freaking.
Starting point is 00:33:26 I've been on a big jerk cycle. Have you? 11 month old at home. It's been a lot. Nice. Nice. That was a masturbation joke. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:33:36 I've been on a jerk cycle since I've been 11 years old. But one of the things is I watched you snatch yesterday. Your overhead position, dude. Getting better. You move well now. Yeah. So proud of you. I remember when you started this move well now. Yeah. So proud of you. I remember when you started this two years ago and I would see videos of you and I'd be like, ooh, you've got a long ways to go,
Starting point is 00:33:50 buddy. Yeah. Long ways to go, but it looked so good yesterday. Two things if you want to get good at snatching. Don't even snatch. Do snatch pulls and snatch balance. Yeah. And literally, if you can pull the bar to your nipples and you can snatch balance and hold for a couple seconds at the bottom, like, literally it will just it will come together um i i literally think i could not
Starting point is 00:34:10 snatch for a month and i could probably increase the snatch from now on i mean at that super high level you got to really be fine with it fine-tuned with everything yeah but i at that independent level i think so many people underestimate and i did years, how important it is to just sit down and practice going from your wrists to your elbows to your shoulders being back to your stomach being tucked to your knees being out, like, you know, and just hit those things. Like, Sam Dancer taught me a lot with that. I bought the bamboo bar a while ago, and I just practiced that position, and it doesn't stress out your body as doing, like, all reps all the time. And the snatch pulls, it's another one of those things where it's like, I think I missed out so much on understanding how important the bar path is to connect with that hip, just ride up, shave the belly button to the nipples, and then that's when the wrists snap back.
Starting point is 00:34:58 But there's a lot for everybody to learn. It took me a while to pick up on my skills. Did you figure out that combination organically through this training, or did someone come in and be like, like yo here's what you need to do just pair these two together and you'll be money nick novak out of new york city taught me about the snatch pulls and like that really kind of kept me in my bar path thanks nick um and sam dancer was the person who was just like just like it's so interesting i mean he's such a superhuman um of his ability of strength but uh he moves better than everybody else I've seen in the CrossFit industry,
Starting point is 00:35:28 and his body is so massive, but he's so healthy. And that's because he just goes into these weird positions and he just stays there. So those two guys gave me that. You have an event coming up here. We're half an hour into this. It's 1028. What time is your event?
Starting point is 00:35:42 I should probably get out of here in about five minutes. Tell us about your program that you just launched. So the program I just launched, Race Ready, it's pretty exciting. I'm actually using the model just a little bit different on strength to get ready for my OCR World Championships. So I've done, like, the base volume. I expect everybody should have a little bit of base volume running. And I'm doing the track workouts, and I'm doing the hill workouts,
Starting point is 00:36:08 and then I'm doing the long workouts on Saturday because I'm using that same exact platform to get ready for OCR World Championships in the fall. Is that Spartan World? No, I'm going to go to OCR World Championships. What's the difference? I didn't know there was a Spartan Race World. In our sport, imagine IF3. IF3, I don't know if anybody knows about this,
Starting point is 00:36:25 but it's like a sanctioning body of, like, fitness. Yeah. The International Fitness Federation. Functional Fitness Foundation. It's a similar version of that in our sport. So, like, there's CrossFit. There's Granite Games. Those are two independent companies.
Starting point is 00:36:39 IF3 is the company that, like, oversees all of them. You can qualify through those to get to IF3, I guess. I don't know if I'm screwing this up. I don't know. But our version is very similar. You could go to a Tough Mudder, a Savage Race, a Spartan Race to qualify for OCR World Championships. That's the governing body that says you're the best. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:55 So they have a race that's nine miles and has 100 obstacles. And I'm talking about like would blow your mind hard. Yeah. Yeah, so cool. I thought Spartan was really hard. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Some of them were miserable. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:08 I just don't do wet monkey bars in my normal training. Dude, come. You'd be freaked out. I don't know if you guys have the time, but you'd have so much fun. They put so much design into it. Every company and race, like, competing race company puts obstacles into this one thing so you get an experience from it all, an international experience of athletes and obstacles.
Starting point is 00:37:31 So I'm training for that. My program, this is the first chunk to get you ready for it, and then I'll have the second training guide coming out in the fall to get ready for the second piece. So I'm just telling people, I'm like, if you guys want to do exactly what I'm doing and have fun with it and kind of join the party, that's what I'm doing. Please sign up.
Starting point is 00:37:47 Come hang out. Come get in shape. Yeah. You can go to the CrossFit Games, too, if you get really good at it. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I would love to tell people what it takes to get there because I'll just – I've been writing down all my training, and I'll just print it out for free and let people know exactly what it is. Do you write all your workouts down?
Starting point is 00:38:00 Pretty much. You have, like, logs and logs of just – Tons of it. I never did that i wish i did i wish i was like part of my life that i wrote down all the training that i did even when i was like 16 like a dumbbell incline flies i have so much stuff from when i was younger doing the same exact thing and it's just so embarrassing to see what i was doing back then compared to what i was doing now it's all part of it you're still just getting strong yeah you were telling your body
Starting point is 00:38:22 it's time to get strong you just do it in weird. I can't wait until I'm done with all this stuff. All I plan on doing is mountain biking, rock climbing, and bench press and rack pulls. That's it. Yeah. Yeah. I'm into that. Dude, where can people find all this?
