in the house we have our co-host we're not gonna cry today jen ryan no crying today on the
microphones for all you loyal listeners that her heard and I cry our eyes out a couple months back.
And Reagan Huckabee.
Yo, we just met you.
Well, I shouldn't say we just met you.
You, we met you at the Granite Games.
Correct.
And Doug and I were smashing kids on the beer pong table.
Dude.
7-0.
Undefeated.
7-0.
You walked in with one of our other favorite
people carrie yeah carrie we met carrie at regionals in 2019 18 when was the last time
that was like two or three years ago so 2017 yep and carrie was just, getting warmed up at, like, CrossFit Society or Stratum Fitness, whichever one it is.
And we saw, like, a real athlete.
And we were, like, doing a bunch of movement demos.
And we were like, Carrie, will you just come over here and be our demo girl?
We were, like, doing handstand push-ups.
And Doug and we looked at each other.
We're like, I'm not fucking doing that.
Let's let her do it.
And then we, like, looked around.
Like, who wants to do this stuff?
And Carrie was like the most athletic person in the room by a long shot.
I was like, will you do like four of those for us?
She was awesome.
But yeah, we were smashing kids on the beer pong table.
And you walked in.
We were like, that's Reagan Occupy.
Do you think she wants to play beer pong with us?
No, you guys weren't letting anybody play beer pong.
It wasn't like we were crushing people.
Yeah, we didn't have an option.
When you win, other didn't have an option. No, I know.
When you win, other people just not as many.
I tried to say hi to you, and you guys were like, not now, not now.
Well, we were peaking.
We were in the middle of a peak cycle.
Doug said they were playing with – they were using water.
Are you lying to me, or are you kidding?
We were drinking beers.
I was like, no, they were not.
There wasn't water in, like, the beer pong cups.
I'm not playing seven games in a row of beer pong with, full beers in every in every cup it would be so trash people screaming
and drinking you drink it right now but wait you thought we had you thought we were playing with
like real beer like regular beer she was like they were so smashed and i was like those guys
i thought that's why they were doing so good i was was like, wow. Is that why Andrew's being so loud?
No, he's just loud. He just always screams.
What were you, was that, I guess you didn't have to qualify at the Granite Games to get in.
When did you start doing this CrossFit thing?
Let's hear your story.
Oh, man.
I started CrossFit in, I think, 2013 is when I started.
I got pregnant when I was 21.
And I've always done some sort of fitness.
So my background is, I played soccer
my whole life since I was four.
I can see you being a soccer player.
Beautiful. You're really fast.
Yeah, I'm really fast. It doesn't prove so
though at the CrossFit Games.
They're the most elite of the most elite.
Oh my gosh. No, but I should be good at running.
Like a sprint was tough for you or what? Well, but I should be good at running. Everybody says that.
Like the sprint was tough for you or what?
Well, no, I'm good at sprinting.
It's like long distances I'm terrible at.
Oh, yeah.
I'm terrible at long distances.
No, just watching you move weights yesterday,
like you look like you're much higher on like the explosive power speed end of things.
I wouldn't think distance running would automatically be your thing.
Hell no.
Although I have to say at the CrossFit Games this year we had that ruck run.
I am good with running with weight.
Because it slows everyone down.
But anything on my body, exactly.
Did you just cringe inside when she said that, by the way?
We talked about it afterwards.
But then I reminded her she had less weight than me.
Yeah, thanks for the reminder.
You got to throw that out there.
She talks enough shit.
You got to throw that in her face.
I know.
I said I'll give that to her.
She's amazing.
I was.
I even gave some extra weight, I think, to Rasmus.
That was perfect.
I think the highest compliment that we can give to all the people,
like when I watch people lift weights, I'm like, you move really well.
I feel like I'm giving you my most emotional, personal checkmark of,
like, I respect your grind.
When did you learn about the, yeah, we could totally be friends.
I would train with you because it doesn't look like nails on chalkboard,
and it wouldn't gross me out doing snatches and cleaning jerks with you.
Only if we could cry together.
Did you do Olympic lifting?
And we could cry.
Did you do Olympic lifting and training for soccer?
No.
Wait, when did you learn it?
Honestly, like, I have done no Olympic lifting up until I got into CrossFit.
So zero.
Zero training.
I've just always had an athletic background.
I've been in a gym, like Globo gyms.
I worked at the front desk.
I've done what I wanted.
I did the stair stepper a lot.
I don't know.
I just did what I wanted.
Glutes.
It's all about the buns.
But you also owned a gym.
You've been in that side of it.
I've been on that side of it.
I owned a gym for two years recently.
So when I opened a gym up in 2017, I think it was, with two other women.
And I ran that gym.
I coached.
Ran some of the business side.
Did retail.
And I competed.
And I had a family. Yeah, how do you do that oh well i wasn't doing it very well i figured out what part what part what part is like the
hardest part of to keep up with that uh i'd say like definitely my family so i have a husband i
have my two kids um because ultimately they come first for me. In theory?
They're supposed to come first?
Yeah, let's put it that way.
Question mark at the end.
You went from, well, that was the part that kind of fell off,
and then immediately you were like, oh, no, they come first.
They are supposed to come first.
But I share this love for competing and I have a passion for it.
And I guess, yeah, you could say it's my hobby but it's the thing that like truly fulfills me other than
my family so i was weighing out all my options like okay do i want to run this business compete
or my family well obviously my family's a no-brainer yeah um and i wanted to compete this
past year on a team and that's where my passion and love lied.
Yeah.
And so I decided to sell my portion of the gym.
Beautiful.
So I no longer own a gym.
So you've made the games four times.
Correct.
Is that four times in a row, like four years in a row?
So I made it in 2014, 2015, 2017, those years as individual.
What was the two-year gap, babies?
26, no, because i had my son in 2009
my daughter in 2012 so i had already had my kids that gap was a bunch of stress i would say like
in 2016 uh my marriage was there were some rocks of my marriage obviously i'm just gonna be
transparent here yeah um my husband's dad was also
really ill and ended up passing away so i just had a lot of stress and it just goes to show that
when you have that much stress going on like you can't you can't do everything yeah oh absolutely
and well then you open the gym in the middle in the middle of all that yeah i find that um when
you talk about that stress the family one is very hard yeah because it's you just expect
that it's always there and it's always going to work and then you realize that like it really is
only like five percent of your day yeah and it's really important five percent when you
open the gym up did you like instantly think oh i've gone too far like there's too much on the
plate actually no because i think i was
being like kind of naive and selfish in the sense of like okay i can do this all like i love organized
chaos i just like thrive off of it it's hard for me to settle ever you know so when i opened it i
didn't even really think that i was what i thought to myself was awesome i'll be able to train i'll
be able to coach i'll be able to personal train i really wish you would
call my family and i can be a mom you know like those are the things that i thought in my head
yeah for sure and then here i am i'll bring the family to the gym yeah my husband's gonna love
being here all day long with me yes you can babysit while i work out poor guy he would love
you right now he'd be be like, thank you.
Somebody speak in my language.
Seriously.
If you were alone in this conversation, but that's the gym owner life.
You get into it and you're like, who knew there was so much crap?
Yeah.
And I had two partners.
Like, I had two partners that did a lot.
You know, they were awesome.
And it was still freaking hard yeah like i think
we when when i when when we were we had nine coaches like four or five of them were full-time
two gyms in one town and i just remember thinking like so i'm never gonna work out again like i'm
trying to go to the crossfit games right now what Crack? This is ridiculous. I barely have an hour to do
anything. How do you keep the training going and moving forward? Because that's its own full-time
gig. Yeah. I had to just have everything kind of lined up. Like I had my coaching when I would
coach. I had my training schedule. So I just kind of had everything down to a T. Like this is my
time to train. I got to train. Then I got to coach.
Then I got to train again.
I got to pick my kids up at 3 to go to dance and soccer practice and cross.
And then I'm home to make dinner.
Yeah.
Like, it was just a schedule that I was thriving off of the entire time.
But eventually it caught up to me.
Well, I think it's really cool because if you were to ask the general person,
like, oh, what do you think of somebody that's been to the CrossFit Games four times?
They'd be like, life is probably awesome for them.
Because they're thinking of, like, the top five people in the individual competition, and they see this big bright light.
And they're like, oh, my God, Matt Frazier's got all the money, and he doesn't have to do anything.
He just trains, and Sammy's feeding Frazier's and all this stuff. And his life is great.
And that must be for the other 400 people that are at the games.
But you've been four times.
Yeah.
And it's like kind of like a full-time job that is more of an expense in your life.
Yeah.
That you have to pay for and you have to train for.
But there isn't a ton of time.
How do you, I guess, we like you have to be very regimented
in your schedule and stuff but like do you feel like if you were to shed all that stuff and put
all the energy into that additional 20 of your life or whatever it is into training is that like
an option that could pay off in the end of getting into the top 10%, top 5% of CrossFitters? You know, like, here's a question for you.
I would love it.
I can talk so much.
Let's go.
You interview me.
How many people do you know that have been to the CrossFit Games?
Well, there's a couple.
Or that are currently still doing the CrossFit Games that are moms?
None.
Maybe.
I don't know.
And I think that could –
It just got so silent.
I actually can't –
I know.
Everybody was like – I can't talk about that shit. Ryan, I don't know. And I think it just got so silent. I can't talk about that shit.
Ryan, I don't know. I like I've entertained that option maybe a handful of times. Yeah. Maybe like
five times. Yeah. But that's really not an option for me. Yeah. I could sit there and be like,
oh, OK, well, maybe if I didn't have a family that I had to look for, like, would I be in that top
five percent? That's not even an option. I can't even entertain that. I had to look for, like, would I be in that top 5%? That's not even
an option. I can't even entertain that. You know what I mean? Like I just got to do what I can
and do the best that I can with what I've got. And that's why I said earlier, I'm like,
it's kind of a hobby. Yes. I would like to make more money with it because that's my passion.
And that's what I love to do. But at the same time, like, I'm still to this day trying to find that balance of, like, having my family and being, you know, a CrossFit competitor.
Yeah.
Because that's ultimately what I want to do.
Yeah.
Along the way, is your family, like, super supportive of the fact that you're trying to do this, like, extra cool thing even though you have so much going on?
Yeah.
You know what?
That's the reason I'm actually able to do this, I feel like, is my mother-in-law lives like two blocks away from us
actually in Hood River Oregon um and she's super helpful which is awesome my husband has been
extremely helpful but it hasn't been without a cost like I said I'm going to be transparent here
yeah um him and I have had a really rocky road through my six years of competing in CrossFit
like times where we've been like maybe we should
get a divorce yeah you know because it's super stressful on my family i'm traveling i'm training
like i'm watching what i eat 24 7 but they're all pretty damn supportive my kids love it they
love it they've been to the crossfit games we took them one time. No, we've taken them twice. Sorry.
And I think, like, that's always the biggest thing for me.
It's just, like, trying to be a good example for them more than anything.
Like, teach them work ethic, like, commitment.
Yeah.
And now they're completely into it.
I think every time I mention there's a possibility of me maybe not competing
or even when I sold the gym, they were like, no.
They were pissed.
They were like, what's wrong with you?
Why would you stop competing?
So I think that kind of keeps me going.
And my husband's like, man, they really enjoy watching their mom do something super cool.
Yeah.
It's really hard for everybody, though.
But it is a team thing.
It is a team thing.
You don't have to worry about putting yourself out there too much about that.
I think that's a very universal thing.
Yeah.
Weightlifting in my life is very, very important.
And we are in Vegas right now.
My wife is at a funeral.
There's a massive sacrifice that goes on in everyone's family in order for the people to go and do the very
special thing in your family like i think what we're doing right now is a very special thing
to be here with you guys yeah and yeah my wife is at a funeral right now like her great or her
grandma died and it's like i should probably be there right like this is clearly a stress on the family.
Yeah.
And when we're at the CrossFit Games for six days, it looks like we're partying even though we're working.
And like you're at the CrossFit Games and it's like you have this big bright light and it's so awesome.
But people don't always see like the massive support system that allows a lot of the stuff.
And a lot of the people that bend over backwards like make all of these cool things happen. Have you ever, I mean, I know you just said like
you've, it's very stressful, but when do you see, or is there a time that you could see where like
the benefit of all these cool things where you just want to step back and be like, let's make
life a little bit easier and stay home and maybe not so much chase chase the barbell yeah
man i've visited that thought i think multiple times my husband and i have visited that thought
multiple times um but it's hard like i think like i said i just have this love and passion for the
sport it's not even about making the money for me obviously like i Like, I just think it's so cool.
Like, this sport is evolving, even though, you know, everybody's like,
what do you think about the CrossFit Games?
You know, everything's changed.
Or I'm thinking, well, hell, I haven't even thought about that.
I'm thinking about, like, taking my kid to soccer practice, you know?
Or like, what are we going to have for dinner, you know?
So I don't know.
I do entertain it because in actuality, it would make our life easier.
Yeah.
Yes.
I would say yes.
But it wouldn't make me happy.
It would sacrifice the gift.
Totally.
It would sacrifice the gift.
And, like, I just truly believe that you have to be somewhat selfish.
Right?
Yeah.
Like, it makes me a better mom it makes me a better person
like i work harder actually when i have something to work towards obviously so for me it had way
more benefits than it does cons even though like it can be a stress on our family does your husband
have a like the fire towards anything?
Like, you wake up and you're, like, fired up to go train,
fired up to go to the CrossFit Games.
Does he have this, like, burning passion for anything in his?
I would say, like, he's a really good dad. So he's super passionate about being a dad, being a husband.
He has a really awesome job.
He makes the camera units that go on drone airplanes.
Yeah, it's pretty sick, actually.
So, like, it's pretty sick.
It's really rad.
It's rad.
So he has, like, a great job.
And I don't necessarily, he used to be a rugby player,
so he had a passion for sports.
Kind of gets it.
Yeah. But I think now he kind of sits back and he used to be a rugby player, so he had a passion for sports. Kind of gets it. Yeah.
But I think now he kind of sits back and he watches me and he's like, you're on a whole
nother level.
Yeah.
Like you go do your thing.
At this stage of the game, do you have to be in the gym like 12 months a year?
Like you clearly move pretty well.
You're strong enough.
Yeah.
Are you able to kind of partition the year out where it's like, I'll just the summer off go hiking with my family hang out i would say and then turn it on it's silly to
be in the gym 12 months of the year yeah right i'm in there i'm being i'm in there being slightly
above average all the time 12 months a year i don't i try not to take a day off i just want to
be slightly above average go to to my quiet place. Lift the
weights. No, it's called balance. It's called balance. I think right after the CrossFit Games,
I came home and I spent the entire rest of the summer with my family just kind of doing what
my kids wanted to do. Well, that was like three weeks. Yeah, you're right. And now I'm here.
Now you're lifting weights at the one-shot challenge lifting weights no i'll forever lift weights are you
kidding me i couldn't even stay out of the gym um i love it like i said i think more than anything
like i'll always be a gym rep because it makes me a better mom like it's my release man now that
your kids are 10 years old yeah your girl's 10 my son's 10. Son's 10? Does he lift the weights? Does he see mom and he's like, mom, I'm going to smash you on this.
The guy never wears a shirt.
We got a call from school saying that he wouldn't keep his shirt on.
Yeah.
He's flexing on kids.
Oh, my gosh.
He's trying to sell me at his school, actually.
Like, you should see my mom's ass.
Right?
Mom's yoked.
His teachers are like, yeah, that sounds good.
Bring her in.
That's your mom. All down. Oh, sounds good i'm down oh my god thanks buddy no they're totally into it they do crossfit her did they
do gymnastics growing up as you say you should just google her we had this incident last year
in the class where they all have ipads you know 2019 now um in class and we got a call from his teacher like so i have half of the
kids in this class googling your name and some pictures of you in your sports bra i'm like sorry
sir can't help you there gotta talk to my son on that one yeah what are you supposed to do about it
i know i was like uh you're the teacher aren't you guys supposed to be watching what they
what they search on google it's a little scary i have to say yeah anyway sorry but you portray yourself i think
very well so i hope so is a strong feminine woman i mean as an empowered woman yeah i think that's
as i scroll through your instagram account i don't feel any any i don't feel bad looking at anything. I don't feel guilty.
I feel great about it.
If I walked into Spearmint Rhino tonight, I'd be like,
maybe I don't know if everyone would be proud of me doing this.
Bill Jenin on the Spearmint Rhino.
Oh, it's a local gentleman's club down the street with a $60 ATM fee
if you don't have enough cash to pay for an
overpriced conversation with a friend. We'll go later. Around midnight, he'll show you.
It's a good way to describe it. Okay. Yeah. Tell me about your training now, though. You're back
in the gym. Games are over. I'm back. You took the whole summer off of three weeks.
Are you are you back in the gym, or is this your first,
now that we're at the One-Ton Challenge,
is this the first time you've lifted weights in a while?
Let's see.
I remember texting Jen last week, and I got myself back in the gym.
That was interesting.
Was it because of coming here?
I did call Jen and was like, holy shit.
I don't even know how to snatch anymore.
Beautiful.
She was like, Reagan, you're going to be completely fine.
But, yes, that was a reason.
I was like, I need to go brush up on some technique because it's been a while.
It's been, you know, a hot month since lifting a barbell.
So, yeah, I'm back in the gym again.
Just having fun for right now because, I mean, it's a long season, right?
Well, not really.
The Open starts next week.
That's true.
It's not a long season for those people who are doing the Open.
I will be doing the Open for fun.
I'm kidding.
Right.
No, seriously.
Everybody says three weeks out.
I mean, if I'm being transparent, I remember last year I did the Open for fun.
And the night before, what workout was it?
It was like the
handstand walk uh box step up i can't remember exactly how it went but uh i went out the night
before and had fun had some drinks had a little bit of a hangover the next day and i freaking
crushed it a little bit ethanol in the system fired up there's something to say about being
relaxed and seriously having some fun dude a lot of people say that a lot of people have a couple
drinks the night before and they're like i kind I didn't feel that great, but I did really well.
You performed better.
A lot of people say that.
Everyone jokes about it, but enough people say it where there's something weird going on there where people actually perform, in some cases, a little bit better.
Yeah.
I don't know.
That totally may not be true, but enough people say it where I think something's going on.
From the most trusted voice in fitness, Douglas E. Larson.
Has that happened to you?
It's totally happened to me.
I have definitely had very, very good days in the gym.
Actually, the very first open workout I ever did was in the Bellagio.
We were here.
We had a – I shouldn't say the –
Was it pulling the, like, slot machine or something?
Yeah, because the open didn't exist.
Yeah, right.
It was – everyone machine. It was a slot machine.
Everyone should remember this.
It was the double unders for 30 and then 15 power snatches for 15 at, like, 75 pounds.
And we had a Vegas trip scheduled, and we came out here and it was like, well, shit, where are we going to do the open?
So we brought our jump ropes into the Bellagio fitness center and we were doing double unders on carpet oh my gosh and we had the
75 pound bar that doesn't spin the like short one with the like basically for hip thrusters is the
only thing you can or curls is the only thing you use them for and we were snatching that and we
videoed the whole thing and that was like our open score but doing double unders on carpet is the only thing you use them for. And we were snatching that, and we videoed the whole thing,
and that was like our open score.
But doing double unders on carpet is the worst possible scenario for scoring
in a workout.
Doing any Olympic stuff on bars that don't spin is really uncomfortable.
Yeah.
You ever try that?
Oh, I've tried that.
I've been to a couple competitions that I'm like, oh, wow.
We're going to break my wrist here.
This is great.
Like working extra hard.
Yeah, seriously. When do you to break my wrist here. This is great. Like working extra hard. Yeah, seriously.
When do you turn?
Who's coaching you?
Are you following CJ?
CJ is coaching me.
Yeah.
Yep, he's been coaching me for almost six years.
Do you follow the competition program?
Or is he doing personal training?
This past year, Jen and myself, actually, and Lauren Fisher,
we all followed Tino and CJ's personal programming.
We all had some personal programming.
Obviously, I went team this past year, so our team was on a spreadsheet together, kind of all going against each other.
Wait, when?
How many times have you gone individual?
So this was my first year going as a – oh, wait, no.
Three years as an individual.
So 2014, 2015, 2017.
What's your best finish?
Oh, God. I think I got, like 2014, 2015, 2017. What's your best finish? Oh, God.
I think I got like 29th or something.
That's cool.
In 2017.
And then we got third as a team this past year.
That's radical.
Yeah.
Podiums are dope.
Man, first experience.
It was awesome.
Yeah.
What's the plan for next year?
Team again?
Yes.
I would like to go team again.
You don't have to declare it right now. No, no, like to go team again. We don't have to, like, declare it right now.
No, no, no.
I can declare.
If Castro's not listening, maybe.
I hope you're listening, Katie.
I can declare that I'm going to do team again.
I said yes to doing a team again this year.
Beautiful.
Yeah, so we'll see.
I don't know.
Rasmus has said he's retiring now,
so I don't know what the teams are going to look like this year.
Rasmus is retiring?
He's, like, 23. How this year. Rasmus is retiring?
He's like 23. How old is he? How old is he? 27?
27, I think. Yeah. He's just bored. He needed something to talk about.
Yeah. Why would he retire?
Well, he's like, he had some injuries this past year, actually. I feel like it was a tumultuous year, even for our team. We had some injuries on our team. Rasmus hurt his back.
Tommy hurt his back. But Ry hurt his back but rass's back injury lasted i mean it it was pretty brutal for him yeah so he has some injuries and then grown strong uh lauren and his company yeah they just
opened up a uh program and um i think they're busy like yeah they're definitely busy life
yeah lauren's done a really awesome job i feel like
of understanding the business side from a very young age yeah yeah like when she came up with
the grown strong brand or however that worked out when she was like 18 years old i was like as soon
as the first t-shirt came out she was like at invictus and we were in PB and I was like, oh shit, she is going to crush
that.
Like that is so on brand and such a good message.
And she nailed that.
Yeah.
And then Nike showed up and I was like, Oh, I'm not the only one that thought that was
a good idea.
Yeah.
Yeah.
She crushed it.
She is so like, I feel like she's so business savvy, like, business minded.
And she has, like, a great support system, too, you know.
So she's done really well.
When you guys are all hanging out and training, do you guys talk about that stuff as a team?
Or is it more just, like, gym fitness focused?
Do we talk about, like, business?
Well, yeah, just like you're all professional athletes at some level.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We all talk about it.
I think sometimes though, when we get in the gym, I remember Tommy would always be like,
you girls have one hour, like hurry up and warm up.
He was like adamant to be in and out because he, I mean, he was a coach, obviously.
Tommy coached as well and just had a lot of other things in his life going on.
So it was, it was a lot of business.
And when we got in the gym and we were training together,
because also you have to realize we all lived in separate states.
So Lauren and Rass lived in California.
I lived in Oregon and Tommy lived in Arizona.
So whenever we'd get together, it was like we really had to utilize that time together.
So it would be like in the gym business.
And then when we got out of the gym, well, I don't know.
Tommy would be like watching a movie on his iPad.
Rasmus would be on the computer workingmmy would be like watching a movie on his ipad or um rasmus would
be on the computer working lauren would be on her phone and i'd be like twiddling my thumb yeah you
gotta start the business you're ready i know actually i'd be sitting in silence like hell
i don't have kids asking for a damn snack right now yo that's what happened last night that's
what happened last night on the craps table that's there was a whole bunch of old people that got
kids in vegas with no kids yeah it was and shit got hot right we were lighting it up on the craps table. There was a whole bunch of old people that got kids in Vegas with no kids.
And shit got hot, right?
We were lighting it up, throwing the
dice, numbers, people were getting
paid. Jen and I were losing money, so
I don't know what you're talking about.
You and Doug came out fine.
Cassidy Lance had stacks
of cash.
And she played it so cool.
She's like, I don't know.
I haven't really done this before.
It sounds like a freaking typical CrossFitter.
She's got three gyms at home, like kids, like the whole thing.
And I was like, we're in Vegas right now.
No one's got kids.
What are we going to do?
Let's go light it up on the craft table.
Let's light it up like Jen Ryan. Yeah. She's used craps table let's all be jen ryan for a night
cassidy was all about gambling and then we left the craps that went over the 21
and we're playing blackjack and like three four hands in she looks at me she goes i don't want to
do this anymore just like like lost like hand hand hand hand we played craps and made money
for like an hour and a half and like everyone
was having a good time
and then just like
got smashed on blackjack
and all of a sudden
motivation was like
blah blah blah
let's go outside
and get a drink
blackjack moves fast
if it's not going well
craps is where it's at though
as far as like
a community event
where everyone can like
hang out and have a good time
and not lose all your money
in two seconds
craps is perfect
I really enjoyed it
who was it that said, like, actually,
that's the one game that you can actually make quite a bit of money if you're.
I think mathematically it calculates that it's, like,
the safest thing to play in a casino.
You just play pass line playing crafts.
Like, you can survive for a long time.
Eventually you'll lose your money.
Right.
But, like, the odds mathematically, I think,
are the highest in the whole casino.
That was fun.
We should go play after this.
Someone can fact check me on that one. We're definitely going to. Fit a dinner straight in the whole casino. That was fun. We should go play after this. Someone could fact check me on that one.
Definitely going to.
Fit A dinner, straight to the craft table.
We've got a system now.
We've got a system.
Somehow avoided going dancing until 7 in the morning.
That's when they shut it down last night, 7 a.m.
Wow.
That's the Fit A crew.
Shut up.
That was in unison.
It was a very beautiful teammate moment right there, guys.
Wow.
Very impressive.
Wow.
We really missed out.
Do you struggle being the only person that's not in San Diego for the team stuff?
Yes and no.
Like, sometimes I feel like I benefit, actually, not being there because I am the only one who has kids, let's say.
Yeah.
And so I think if I was there, I'd get this feeling of like,
well, maybe having a little bit of FOMO or something like you're missing out.
Or maybe they're training harder than I am.
Or they're going to go to the ocean, but I got to take my son to a doctor's appointment.
Like I think there's pros and cons to that too.
But I think it actually benefits me because then when I do go get to train in San Diego
or we go meet somewhere, I'm like 100% in.
I'm like, I don't have my kids.
Like this is the time where I got to put in all of my work.
Yeah.
So it's like my intensity is a little bit higher.
And I'm just like super focused.
I'm hyper focused when I get to go visit.
So I kind of like like I wish I was there for maybe six months out of the year.
And I wish I wasn't.
I don't know.
It's nice that I get to go visit.
Getting pulled is tough.
Yeah.
By a bunch of people that don't have kids.
Yeah, it is.
And you're like, no, I actually want to go hang out with the kids.
And they're like, for what?
Why would you want to go hang out with miniature humans that barely talk to you?
Our kids are cool, though.
They're pretty fun.
I guess yours are legit humans now.
They love dinner.
Mine's 14 months old.
She's not that legit yet.
Yeah, mine are legit humans.
They can actually feed themselves, which is nice.
Your kid's taking his shirt off at school.
He's definitely a legit human.
It was so funny.
So we also did these.
We came up with camps. So to make it fair for our team training this past year, we did a camp in Vancouver, Washington,
which is like 45 minutes from where I live.
That's where I grew up.
We did a camp.
Oh, yeah, that's right.
You told me that last night.
I remember.
But you were drunk, so you don't remember.
I almost lost my ATM card, too.
That was exciting.
You did.
That was a lucky grab. That was exciting. You did. That was a lucky grab.
That was nice.
That saved me.
Friends, we just started working with the United States Air Force.
Let me tell you how cool this is.
We met them out in Tahoe a year ago, and we met Lieutenant Colonel Kearns.
You've heard him twice on Shrugged now.
But I have to tell you, I spent an entire day on a mountain.
We trained together.
We had coffee together. We had
coffee together. We hung out in an Airbnb together. I spent 72 straight hours with Lieutenant Colonel
Kearns and the crew from the United States Air Force. The special operations units over there
are top notch. The PJs and all the stories that go on, they are the most specialized warriors on
the planet. They're the ones that all the other special forces on, they're the most specialized warriors on the planet.
They're the ones that all the other special forces look up to when the mission calls
for unique skills and fearless commitment.
For mentally tough, physically strong,
these elite heroes go where others won't
because they've trained to do what others can't.
So head over to airforce.com forward slash special ops.
That's S-P-E-C-I-A-L ops, O-P-S. Airforce.com forward slash special ops. That's S-P-E-C-I-A-L ops, O-P-S.
Airforce.com forward slash special ops.
It has been a pleasure getting to know these guys.
I went out to dinner with a bunch of them last night, actually.
And the relationship is the most important thing with the people that we're working with.
And U.S. Air Force, top-notch humans.
I can't wait for you guys to get over to their
website check everything out airforce.com forward slash special ops there's a real need for you if
you are interested in military service to get over to the air force i've been nothing but happy with
our relationship with them the people that we've met and they truly are at the top of the game in the military also our friends over at savage barbell savagebarbell.com the official
apparel sponsor of the one ton challenge you can save 25 on your first order by going to
savagebarbell.com forward slash drugged friends we are back to the show right now i feel like we're
at like a brunch of fitness people trying to piece the night together. We literally had a combined nine drinks between four people.
But we're like, the credit card, you found it.
It's good.
Thank gosh.
Good Lord.
We'll have to go home and explain that one.
Anyway, sorry.
And then we did a camp in Arizona because Tommy lived in Arizona.
And we did a camp in San Diego.
So we did Vancouver first uh we stayed in kind of Camas Washington which is you know 20 minutes from Vancouver
and then the last like three days I took them to where I lived with just 45 minutes
east of Vancouver and so because my kids really wanted them to come stay at the house and I wanted
to go take them uh mountain biking because we have some sick mountain biking trails out there.
Tommy wanted to go snowboarding in the middle of summer.
This is Tommy Venus, right?
Yeah, Tommy Venus.
Just to make sure we got the right.
Tommy Bad A Venus is what we like to call him.
That's what my kids named him, actually, which is hilarious. Your kids are taking the shirt off and swearing.
That's good.
I know.
I obviously have taught them a lot.
See?
At school, I'm getting a call from the principal 24-7.
When your kids grow up in a gym
it's like my mom really knows how to rip an f-bomb
like oh that came out very well your kids really really say it well you know they might only say
ass okay that's the only thing. Anyway, so they came.
I brought them.
And, of course, my kids are, like, pumped.
But I'll never forget Lauren.
Like, we worked out really hard.
We came home, and I, like, just got into mom mode.
Like, I started making dinner for everybody.
And the kids were needing things, so I'd, like, get them things and keep making dinner.
And Lauren was like, is this what you do every day?
She was like, I'm so exhausted from training.
I want to go up and take a nap, but you still have to take care of your kids.
I'm like, yes, that is exactly what I do.
I come straight home, pick them up from school, and I start making dinner.
Like, mama's got to work still, you know?
But her look on her face was like, whoa.
Are there any other CrossFit Games athletes that have kids?
Not like females.
Because that's a different thing.
There's probably plenty of guys.
Yeah, like Nick Gerringer has kids.
Yeah, there's, yeah, like.
He's taking the platform here in about half an hour.
Right.
That'd be fun.
But I don't know any other moms.
And I'm probably missing, like I knew Elizabeth Akinwale used to have one when she was competing.
Yeah.
It's just different now.
It is.
It is different.
Yeah.
It's different, I think, when you're, I mean, not taking anything away from the gentlemen, obviously, that have kids.
It's different.
It is different.
It's very different.
Thank you.
But, yeah.
Yeah.
The mother's love.
The mother's love.
That's right. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. The mother's love. That's right.
Dudes are like, we're just going to go to Vegas and do fitness.
I don't understand.
Yes.
It's like, do you miss your daughter?
Yeah, I miss her.
But Doug's radical, too.
Doug's radical, too.
Why do you think you're traveling with Jen everywhere?
Speaking of travel, what events are you doing this year?
Oh, man.
Where are you going?
World tour. There's so many places now. Reagan Huckabee World Tour. She did the one-time challenge. Speaking of travel, what events are you doing this year? Oh, man. Where are you going?
World Tour. There's so many places now.
Reagan Huckabee World Tour.
She did the one-time challenge.
That's the first stop on the tour.
That was the first stop.
I don't know if anything can trump that, honestly.
Seriously, though, because then on these next ones,
I'm actually going to have to go breathe hard.
Yeah.
You know, the one thing, I told Jen yesterday,
I'm like, why am I doing CrossFit?
I just need to be lifting shit.
Yeah.
Like, honestly.
You move so well.
People don't know.
I don't know about that.
No.
I was sitting there.
We're, like, emceeing the event.
I'm watching you do your thing.
And, like, Doug and Brian and I and all the people that actually, like, understand what's going on,
we're, like, watching you two lift.
And we're like, dude, this is legit.
Like, this looks so good and i feel like there's a bunch of bodybuilding people that have no idea
what a 245 pound barbell looks like much less you cleaning it and then they just like see you doing
it because everything moves so well they're like oh that must be easy you're like yeah you don't
get it yeah that's like thousands of cleans building up to this one yeah like but yeah that's a lot of
lifts building into that 245 well you didn't hit a thousand yesterday the lifetime of cleans but
yeah it's uh lifting weights is way cooler than all that other stuff i mean i love everything
crossfit too maybe just more for the aesthetics or something i don't know no just kidding um but uh her muscle ups are very pretty as well she moves well on muscle ups so i don't know about
that but yeah i i really enjoy lifting the weights too so i don't know um where was i getting oh
where are we traveling so we went to dubai last year which was awesome yeah i would love to do
anybody that can get us out there?
I'll see if I can hook you guys up. See if you need a podcast.
He might, actually.
Let's see.
No, we don't have dancing.
I'm like, he might.
Dubai was rad.
Actually, if you guys can get there, you should totally go.
I really want to go.
It's high on my list.
It was super fun.
And it was like a well-run event.
I remember the ocean.
We swam in the ocean for the first event.
And literally we were like laying on these nice lounge chairs. And they would like bring us water while we were waiting to do this event.
Yeah.
It was rad.
I was like.
Do the run, whatever.
You swim.
I'm here.
I'm staying in this chair.
They would like bring us food.
Oh, it was a cool experience.
And then we did Waterpalooza, which is always fun.
Did we hang out with you at Waterpalooza?
No.
That's messed up.
That is messed up.
I don't know what's wrong with you guys.
We were at the Fit Aid booth where we're at.
Jen Ryan hung out with us.
Oh, she did, didn't she?
Did I at Waterpalooza?
I can't remember.
Yeah, we did.
I have to say, I'm really guilty when I go to these competitions.
I'm super guilty of actually staying in, like, my own element.
Or as a team, like, we would leave and go straight back to the house.
We kind of don't meander around just because, well, if you're with Lauren Fisher, too, you know,
she's getting trampled by people taking pictures.
And she's awesome.
Like, she'll take pictures with everybody, sign things.
So it's kind of better for us because we are all freaking competitive.
And, of course, we want to win.
So we go home.
And, yeah, so I didn't see you guys, actually.
You were doing things.
We were doing things.
Being a professional athlete.
We were trying to make that money.
Yeah.
Are you – will you do the Open for fun?
Are you going to qualify?
How does it work for the teams this year, actually?
If you do the Open and that's like the qualifier for some of these events,
or can your team, because you're radical, just kind of go wherever you want?
So none of the teams, we don't go through the Open process.
You guys won Dubai last year, right?
We did.
That's how we punched our ticket.
First ones.
Yeah, we were the first ones in December.
That's why it was a freaking long season because, I mean,
we punched our ticket in December
and had to wait all the way until August, right?
That's a high-quality problem, though.
You check the box, and now pressure's off.
I am whining.
You can just train.
You can work on your weaknesses.
You have to prep for competitions.
That's true.
That's a good spot.
You didn't do any other competitions, did you?
No, we went to Water Polo Set, and then we went to China.
Holy shit.
China.
Oh, tell me about China.
Oh, my gosh. We could have a whole freaking podcast let's go we are currently that
was an experience you guys um i'm glad i got to experience it but let's just say i don't want to
go back wait shanghai was nuts literally we it was funny we got briefed on bringing our own toilet
paper to the venue wow very forward thinking anyway yeah right i would
not have thought of that money um it was just crazy from the time we got there the language
barrier um it's just like it's overpopulated um we all i know rich froning's team we all got into
some interesting airbnbs um i know his team went to a different airbnb the police came
to his airbnb neighbors tried knocking down the door like they had a crazy experience i know
brandon swan's team had a crazy experience but it was just really the people weren't very inviting
um it was really challenging to find food that was decent we We ate at McDonald's, I think, three times.
I know the boys had Domino's once.
That's an interesting problem talking to Coach Mash
when they go to these international competitions of, like,
where do we find good – and they have to make weight.
How do you eat and not get sick is another piece of it.
That was the biggest thing is, like, figuring out how to not get sick
because everything's like completely
unsanitary there or like i i don't know it was interesting we did go to their gut bacteria is
not mixing with your gut bacteria right now for sure none of us ended up getting sick which was
nice actually surprising i think some other teams some people got sick but our highlight was
disneyland actually we hit up disneyland. Shanghai. Wow. And it was radical.
It was actually the coolest thing we did there.
It was cheap, and it was pretty sweet.
Tommy's like a fanatic on Disneyland, so he was like,
did you guys know that it's the best place to go?
So, of course, like, of course he did.
Where's Tommy at?
Tommy's like 22.
Dude, you guys need to have a podcast with Tommy.
He is freaking hilarious. Like, Tommy's like 22. Dude, you guys need to have a podcast with Tommy. He is freaking hilarious.
Like, Tommy always flies under the radar too because he was in games as an individual 2017, I think, with me.
And then you should know him as lifting some freaking heavy weight.
That guy crushes, man.
Yeah.
He's solid.
He's a solid dude.
But he's freaking funny too i know we were like he should have came out here and done the one-time challenge
because he would have crushed we have a competition for people that like lifting weights i'm gonna let
him know he actually texted me last night and was like that looks so fun i'm so jealous
tell him to come to arnold i know he's actually doing shit with his life. He's, like, becoming a firefighter. Sweet.
But he plans to still – I'm convinced him of staying on the team
and will do another year of team.
Yeah, how hard is it to keep everybody kind of –
I assume if you have a team and kind of –
even, like, looking at Froning's team,
where there's some people that they switch in and out, bringing Chyna in,
I feel like if you were to really get people to commit to like a three-year window yeah maybe that's even way too
long even just two seasons back to back but it's so hard to keep people motivated and like on the
same I mean it's like a business or anything but keeping everybody moving in the same direction
yeah um and keeping their lives from yeah getting in the way of actually competing in CrossFit.
Is it tough keeping, I guess, that dynamic of, hey, let's all stay focused.
We're all doing this.
Don't get distracted.
It's extremely hard, especially when we're all living somewhere separate.
Like I think the one thing that like Rich Froning and Tasia and his team, with the exception of China, obviously, is they all trained at the same gym, you know, working towards the one thing that like rich froning and tasia and his team with the exception of china
obviously is they all trained at the same gym you know working towards the same thing but he kind of
would they probably be able to keep them in check a little bit as far as like no one's fucking with
froning exactly that guy's so solid yeah oh man i can't believe you haven't moved to cookville yet
i know i'm like no i'm just kidding i love invictus my loyalty lies with invictus like
talk about support.
I actually didn't talk about them.
I talked about my family a lot supporting me.
But their support system is huge, too.
Like, I started with CJ in 2014.
Is he the first coach that you've ever had or only coach?
Only coach I've ever had.
I made it in 2014, like, on a whim.
I remember that was my first year, and I was like,
one of the coaches was like at the gym I was going to,
you should try CrossFit.
I'm like, okay.
So I started just doing CrossFit in 2013,
got my first muscle-up like a month into CrossFit.
2013, what year was that?
That was the first year I was out at PB.
Oh, so, yeah.
That was when AB was still super competitive.
He was doing
the competitive fitness.
That's why he's like
reliving those dreams.
I was just trying to remember
what year that was
of my life.
I don't even remember.
Yeah, go ahead.
But anyways,
so I went to regionals
in, let's see,
so that would have been 2014.
Yeah.
And I ended up making it.
That's the year
that like Carleen made it in.
What is her name?
She moved to – she was so badass, and I can't remember her name now.
But she lives in Kauai, I think, and is doing awesome things over there.
Anyways, I made it, and afterwards, one of the women that coached at the gym I was at knew CJ,
and she was like, I think you need to get yourself a coach if you're going to go to the games.
Yeah.
It would help. I was like, what is it? I seriously was freaking oblivious. Like had no
clue what I was getting myself into. So I called CJ up and it's because I was following his
competition programming. Yeah. There you go. I followed his competition programming for a year
and I was like, hey, I follow your competition programming. I made it to the CrossFit Games.
Yeah, and we've got like 10 until athletes start showing up.
A little technical hiccup, but we are back.
We are back.
Reagan, we were in the middle of your CrossFit season. Where you going this year it's backed up just a little bit doug's touching your face again again
you can make a breckin trash joke now that he's here walking around in the expo do you want to
know my breckin i haven't said it in so long we're gonna hang out with brenton some point somewhere
dude we should totally go to spearmint Rhino with Brett Contreras.
And he'd be like, dude, there's like 75 of my athletes.
Including me.
That's right.
That goes in my stories.
Yeah.
Like, oh, yeah, Bambi, she's been on my program for the last 10 years.
Once again, Jen Ryan does not fit in with any of Brett's athletes.
What is it like training there when you walk in and there's like,
we filmed, we recorded like two shows,
and the first one was just us answering our athletes' questions for like an hour,
and then the next one was with Brett.
But in the middle of the show that we were doing, like, clearly, like, IFBB Pro, her butt stuck out so far that, like, it was, like, mesmerizing.
Like, you weren't looking at a butt.
You were looking at, like, this thing that, like.
A trophy.
It was a trophy.
Like, that's exactly what it was.
I was like, is that real?
Yeah.
So, like, walked by.
And I was, like, asking Doug a question.
And I was like, so, like, in the third pull, in that transition to pull under, like, in the elbow.
And he was like.
He's like, are you talking right now?
And I finished the question.
He's like, I wasn't paying attention to you at all.
I was like, I mean either.
I don't even know what I said.
That girl's ass is ridiculous.
You were just rambling.
You weren't even getting to a question.
You were just, like, talking in circles.
Yeah, dude.
It was like, so.
And Doug's just used to that.
And I was like, I know what's going on.
He's not even looking at me.
He's looking over my shoulder the whole time.
What is the vibe in there, though?
Because you're clearly, like, performance-based athlete.
Not that they're not performing, but, like, it's very different.
They have trophies.
Yeah.
You have trophies.
Yeah.
That are different.
Performance-based CrossFit goals.
But they're awesome.
I mean, they're all super nice, especially once you start going a couple of times.
And some of them start to really open up.
They want to partner up with you, and they just want to know more about you
and talk with you.
Are you now considered to be a part of the Glute Squad?
Are you 6 p.m.?
I've been going as often as I can.
The lead-up to games for a little bit I didn't because we had so much
programming or so much, yeah, a lot of training.
And then after games i went for a couple
weeks but then i was out of town again and so but yeah the plan is to go back and i think lauren
wants to come to uh like uh either probably thursdays thursday nights i think we're gonna go
i think you gotta get on this because jen ryan masters athlete still pring lots of lifts after
she started hanging out the glue guy
Did you hear the story about when when I think was wrapped yeah Rasmus was over there and Brett
Asked Rasmus if he lifts weights
Right after RAS was it was after games when RAS placed eighth last year
man in the world and we went not long after that.
And so I had told him about Lauren,
and I said we're going to bring Rasmus, our, you know, boyfriend, too.
And I swear I had said something about him competing as well.
And so Rasmus is there, and he was like, okay, and Rasmus, and so, like, do you compete, too?
Do you know how to lift the weights?
We started dying.
We're like, um raspas is literally
actually the eighth fittest man in the world brett was like oh okay i mean i was just i just wanted
to ask that's great you know he was like well you still don't have nice glutes
but brett's always always such a good sport about it and he's the cool thing about brett is that i
think he likes performance athletes. I need to come
test this out.
You should definitely come down to PB
and hang out next time you're in San Diego.
I don't even live there, but you should come down and hang out.
We'll be there.
Jen Ryan's there.
It's like I still live in PB.
I feel like I'm still there.
You should go to the glute lab
and hang out with Brett Contreras.
It's awesome. I think I'd love it. It's awesome.
I think I would love it.
I love anything that deals with glutes.
That's your spot.
All right.
Seriously.
Yeah.
Jen, don't be so cute. Tell us where you're competing at.
We've asked you this question so many times.
Then we have all these tangents.
You have the tangents.
I know.
I get so excited.
So many good things to talk about when it comes to lifting weights.
I don't know.
Here's my answer.
I don't know what we're doing this year.
We talked about the Filthy 150, which is in Ireland, which is in November.
But I don't think that's going to happen because Tommy is not finishing firefighting his academy until December.
And so I don't know what we have on the table.
I just know that we won't start anything really until end of December, going into January.
But, I mean, there's some places I'd like to go.
I know there's going to be one in Argentina.
I really would love to go to Australia.
I don't know.
I'm just thinking of all the places selfishly I would want to go.
Do you invite us?
Yes.
Of course I'll invite you.
Dude, it's such a great excuse to travel the world.
That is the other thing.
I'm like, I went to China.
I went to Dubai.
Like, I've gotten to do so many within CrossFit.
I mean, not even just the traveling.
I've got to have, like, so many cool experiences.
I think that's in, like, relationships, friendships.
I've gotten to know some rad people.
Like, those are things that I always think about, too,
if I do think about going down the road of stopping competing.
I'm just like, oh, my God, I love those relationships.
I like continue my education, meeting people like yourselves or, you know what I mean? Like,
I don't know. You just, there's so many benefits from it for me.
The ability we're staying with people right now, um, that we met in Madison two years ago,
when we met them, they lived in this this tiny little apartment. Doug and I were playing
tickle toes in a twin
bed, basically.
Then last year, they went
and bought a house, and we stayed at their new house
this year. Now they're having a baby,
and now they're in Vegas with us.
We were sitting down at dinner the other night, and I was like,
fuck, this fitness thing,
we totally are friends.
We're watching you grow a family together.
We're in Vegas together.
We have all these cool experiences.
I didn't know you.
Yeah.
You just knew I was going to beer pong.
Yep.
That was it.
Now,
now we're hanging out.
Like the whole thing flows with life so well.
It does.
It's just,
uh,
if you,
if you leave that though,
it goes away. It does really hard work to keep it going. It is. It's just if you leave that, though, it goes away.
It does go away.
It's really hard work to keep it going.
It is.
It is really hard work.
I admire those people who can, like, put down their shoes and, you know,
and drop, like, being a competitor and go into life.
What do you think about the people that can't get away from it?
I don't know.
That's their choice.
I'm not here to judge them.
I'm one of those.
Well, the only reason I ask, I think it's interesting.
You've been to the games four times now,
and you made the joke that the first time you got there,
you had no clue, you had no coach, you had no.
How much more of a commitment and how much harder is it now of, like,
the all-encompassingness of being a professional athlete just to get to
the crossfit games is insane the commitment that has to happen yeah oh yeah um and the people that
are i'll just say his name because he just got invited it's super interesting to me dan bailey
was a super awesome athlete he still probably is a very very awesome athlete what does it look like
when dan bailey shows up to the filthy 150 next year and is hasn't competed in three years doesn't
he probably knows how to be very good at crossfit like he's definitely an amazing athlete but like
the difference in the gap from where he left to where the sport is now is one of the most, I'm so excited to watch him
compete. Yeah. Just because I want to know if you can go through injuries and take three years off
and then all of a sudden show up and still be Dan Bailey. Right. Totally. Or did the sport just
change fucking hit this like rocket ship. And now the people just like Dan Bailey's a child. Yeah.
Like he was never good. There just wasn't enough people. Yeah.
I mean,
he's clearly amazing athlete.
I'm not taking anything away.
Yeah.
It's just how fast did the sport grow?
And he's going to be such an awesome example of,
can you do it?
He will be.
I mean,
I'm interested to see how well he does too.
I think like you said,
he's an awesome human being.
Um,
and he'll be a great example to whether that'll be possible or not.
Cause I know there's times like this year, my husband was like, why don't you just take off one year and then come back to the sport and
i'm like it's like i could really use some help he's basically saying yeah he's like come on one
year off for the rest of your life he's like i'm telling i'm telling people that you're stronger
than me and you can lift more than i can it's because it's funny our kids will come home and
the teachers will be like oh she always they always tell us that that she can squat way more
than you he's like yeah story of my freaking life um anyways so there's been moments where i have
been like or he's been like just take a year off but i'm like honestly i don't think i could afford
that the speed at what's the sport it grows is insane it's it's asinine like honestly maybe i could take a year
off but i wouldn't stop training like i would have to continue to train because coming back i think
the comeback is hard yeah you know when you step on the floor at the crossfit games are you
even amazed at the speed at which things get done out there. Oh, yeah. Like you're at the sanctional, and it's like the acceptable training speed
that you would practice things at, and then you get to the games,
and you're like, whoa, this is fast.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
I think half the time we're like have our blinders on
when we think we're going to be really good.
I remember going into the first workout, the team workout.
It was toes-to-bar pushing Big Bob, salt bike toes-to-bar pushing Big toes to bar pushing big Bob, um, assault bike toes,
bar pushing big Bob. And we were like, yeah, we'll be good at this. You know, we're good at
shit. Um, and then you get next to like rich froning in them and you're like, Oh, like,
we're terrible at this. It's insane. Like you get on that field with, with people that are taking
it to, you know, those top 5%, 10% people that you're like, field with with people and that are taking it to you know those top five
percent ten percent people that you're like wow these people are truly like a specimen yeah when
you guys finished third froning's team finished first they did very very well what's it like
competing against those guys do you feel like you have a chance of beating them you know. You just got kicked off your team so hard. I know. They're like. Maybe kind of.
You know.
Let me think about it.
It was so.
It's so cool to watch them like perform.
Yeah.
Rich in them.
They are such a unit.
Like he is clearly the leader.
And he is such like.
He would be like we're going to run on this glass and then through fire.
And they'll all be like sweet sweet, we're on board.
Like, whatever you say.
And I think that's, like, what truly it takes to win.
Yeah.
And they're so on that.
I feel like that's maybe where we lacked a little bit.
Like, yeah, this is our first year together.
There was no really, like, clear leadership.
But he just, like, he has such a presence.
Yeah.
And he's so commanding. And his teammates are all in like they're sold yeah no matter what what he's gonna
say and you can just read it like his body language they're just so calculated yeah um so that was
cool to see like because i've never been in the team area before um that was really cool to see
are they beatable yeah i think everybody's beatable yeah
like um i i just think it's gonna take somebody being like him like bring this a little closer
i think it's gonna take somebody being like him like having that leader yeah so how do you develop
that on your team yeah i mean i don't know that's why we have coaches right they help us kind of
configure how that's gonna work i mean we back, we all had exit interviews after games,
like what we thought went well, what we thought didn't go well.
And I think it's just like getting to the drawing board being kind of like
using Rich and their team as an example of how we,
like the areas we can perfect.
Because honestly, it's us four individuals.
We were all individuals, right?
Like on paper, we were all pretty damn good individuals yeah like um on paper i think we
had the talent but when it comes down to winning the crossfit games or being a team i mean that
doesn't matter like yeah to me it's having that leader and can you be cohesive as a team and work
as a team i think one of the things that's so interesting about what he has done is
they're the only people in the entire space where there's,
we don't have to like wonder what would be good.
It's clearly defined that anything less than being the best in the world is not
good.
Yeah.
Where if you finished second,
you're like,
we finished fucking second.
Yeah.
Rich,
when he was stood on the second place podium, that picture.
Oh, I know.
He's like, I hate everyone around me right now.
Seriously.
These fucking losers ruined my moment.
It's like, I should not be here.
I do not need to be on this podium right now.
I'd rather just be in last place and everyone forget about me.
Yeah.
It's so obvious that there's only one thing i don't know how he gets that i shouldn't yeah getting that buy-in
from all of his athletes is incredible yeah like it's a very steep training program that he runs
down there and they have to be basically like roommates in Cookville until they aren't good enough and he kicks them out of the damn town.
Exactly.
You're not on the team?
Get out of my town.
Go back to your own house.
It's true.
I mean, I think he sets such an example.
But for us, like our team, we weren't happy.
Everybody was like, awesome, you guys got third place.
We were all like, it wasn't first.
We got crushed.
Like, we were all like, it wasn't first. We got crushed. Like, we sucked.
Yeah.
You know?
And now what are we going to do to try to basically beat Rich off the podium?
You know?
Like, or in China, we got second.
We had already punched our ticket.
Everybody's like, you guys got second.
And we're like, that wasn't first.
Like, that's not good enough.
That's not going to beat Rich Roning's team.
Like, I don't know.
It'll be interesting
but it was like immediately after we got off the podium like straight to the drawing board
yeah you know what i mean it's awesome yeah um we're gonna go watch the one ton challenge
the fit aid one ton challenge live at the 2019 mr olympia yo tell me about your experience yesterday
um i've never been to the Olympia.
Isn't it cool?
That girl's got on wrestling shoes.
Oh, my gosh. She could deadlift right now or fucking wrestle you.
I know.
I would totally wrestle her.
And I wouldn't want to do either of them against her.
I would.
You would.
You're a fitter.
I'm scrappy, guys.
Hold on.
When did you start talking shit?
Oh, a long time ago.
You're good at it.
I didn't know it was a thing until she told me she was going to kick my ass yesterday.
We were playing craps.
I was like, huh.
Yeah, I'm game.
You're actually.
Let's do this.
When I was emceeing, it's nice to throw a little joke every once in a while to see if we can play along.
And you played right along.
You talked shit right back.
And I was like, man, she's good.
She knows how to talk the shit.
I like talking the shit, guys.
Especially with you guys.
Yeah, we just got to teach Lauren.
She's always like, huh?
Laura Drew?
Yeah.
Yeah, Reagan and I, I try to, in training,
sometimes I'll do a lift or do something,
and I'll throw the bar down and just point to Lauren and just be like, you know.
And Reagan's got this, like, intimidating, you know, before games,
she's like, everybody's my enemy.
You know, and Lauren's like, oh, we're just going to, yeah,
I guess I'm just going to go lift, you know.
Go to go and work out.
We're like, Lauren, you're going to be more intimidating.
And, you know, talk smack.
You're going to look over at China Joe and, like, talk smack.
I'm not talking shit to China Joe.
Yeah.
She'd crush me.
But, like, Raggett, you know, Raggett's got the intimidating look.
I do.
Like, Holden on the other team, I'm like, hey,
are we going to share a bar out there on the field?
You and I?
Let's go.
That whole mug's up.
Yeah.
Are we going to share a bar?
Anyways, let's go.
Let's go watch some bars being lifted.
Yeah, what were your numbers yesterday?
Let's see.
I squatted 345.
That's good.
I benched 185.
I jerked 270.
I was pumped.
I snatched 180.
And let's see.
I cleaned 245, and I deadlifted 405.
I think that that might be 1630.
Yeah, 1630.
I think that's the highest total we've seen put up.
Christine Cole may have gotten pretty close to that,
but I think that's the highest total we've seen put up.
Cool.
Christine Cole is super strong, but she also moves very well.
That was a couple PRs, right?
Yeah, I PR'd my jerk by 5 pounds, and I PR'd my deadlift by five pounds, which I haven't deadlifted
in a grip, so that was kind of cool.
You're a pretty experienced athlete at this point.
Multi-time games athlete. It's not like you're
lifting heavy is new to you
whatsoever. You haven't lifted in like a month,
you were saying. You're like, I've got to go find
a barbell and work on some technique before I show up to this
random event. And then you PR'd two lifts.
That's not...
I would not have predicted that you would get a
deadlift PR after really not doing anything
for a little while. But when you have C.T. Fletcher
yelling at you man
Hold on let's talk about C.T. Fletcher. Tell me your thoughts
Tell me your thoughts
We do have somewhere to be in half
an hour but I'll push that back
to talk about C.T. Fletcher. Oh my gosh you know sometimes I wish
Dave Castro would just get out there and fucking
start yelling at me because maybe I'd do better like on a run situation or something like that i'd beat rich
froning i don't know i think i need to hire ct fletcher to come out to the crossfit games
someone needs to get him out there he was out there this year yeah oh can you believe his like
99 of what he does is say the word everything. Just the way he could, everything.
It was awesome.
I heard you say that 3,000 times.
And I still love it.
I still love it.
Yeah.
Well, I don't know.
Like, being here at the Olympia, I think when you just have all that adrenaline,
there's people, like, really close to you and watching you.
It's just like, that's when i do my best right
i just love being in front of a crowd i love feeling that energy like that's one of my
favorite things about crossfit and and lifting in general um i don't know it was awesome um
savage barbell they brought you out here they did they're they're great they're pretty fun yeah
they're super fun yeah good apparel right we're super lucky and fortunate to have them bring us all the way out here to the one day challenge we've been having a blast
they're my favorite you know why tell us because we get to come to vegas and do cool shit with
cool people and without them we don't get to meet you exactly and we don't have to hang out on
microphones so exactly that's what i'm telling you all the opportunities i've gotten to have
some cool opportunities in the past six years so i look look forward to more, hopefully. I was hiding her.
I was hiding her from you guys.
Whenever you decide that doing all the breathing is super boring,
that'll happen right about the same time this new sport of the one-ton challenge is kicking in.
You just come lift the weights.
I know.
Make it so movement, pretty.
CJ last night was like, those are some pretty good lifts.
He was like, maybe we should focus on some weightlifting.
I'm like, yeah.
I love it.
Where can people find you?
And what, actually, tell me, are you doing personal training?
Is that what we were talking about before we turned the mics on?
Correct.
Actually, where Doug's hometown is, I go to CrossFit Fort Vancouver
and train there with Adam Neiffer.
Yeah, they don't have a team anymore.
No,
he did it for 10 years.
Talk about a solid dude in CrossFit.
Yeah.
That guy,
other than CJ and a lot of other people is totally my mentor.
Like they went to the CrossFit games for 10 years.
Same as Invictus.
Well,
Invictus was 11,
but he retired and he completely runs this awesome community in Vancouver.
So I'm there.
I might start doing some coaching there.
Beautiful.
Yeah.
For the first, they went to the games 10 years in a row.
And at least for the first nine of them, I thought Fort Vancouver was in Canada.
You know what?
That's not uncommon.
I feel like that's pretty normal.
It is.
It's totally normal.
But since it's you, it's hilarious.
I'm slow. That's fine.
Where can people find you?
People can find me in San Diego.
No, I'm just kidding.
I am in Oregon. You can find me on Instagram
at Reagan Huckabee. You can find me making
lunches and trying to work out.
You can find me juggling my kiddos. Well, they're doing
CrossFit with me, so you can find me
and my kids doing CrossFit. Love that.
At Reagan Huckabee? At Reagan Huckabee.
Jen Ryan. Yes. Where can
people find you? At
JennyLynn33 on Instagram.
What's your website? Lifeline Performance.
All the nutrition coaching. Yeah.
Doing Reagan Huckabee.
She is. She's actually my nutrition
coach. Beautiful. It's unreal how
many games athletes that you coach because you never market them.
She doesn't.
Ever.
Jen Ryan, talk about yourself.
Look how amazing Dragon Huckabee is.
She does need to talk about herself.
I coach.
You talk about me being way too humble and not talking about myself.
Yeah.
Jen.
Jen Ryan, give us like a top five.
A top five what?
Just like five random people that you coach.
Not random, the top ones.
People that people know.
Okay, like Reagan.
Reagan Huckabee.
Lauren.
Lauren.
Lauren Fisher.
Rasmus.
Well, yeah.
See, this is the problem.
Help Rasmus.
We help Rasmus.
Stay in a straight line.
Let's see.
Bruce Orlando from yesterday, right?
Oh, yeah.
Bruce.
WWE superstar.
Soon to be.
That's four.
Who else?
Didn't you used to work with Cassidy?
No.
You work with Street still?
Nope, but I did in the past.
That's a great name, by the way.
I know.
Street.
Christy Aramo in the past.
She's cool.
She was supposed to live here, too. Oh, Christy. Shame I know. Street. Christy Aramo in the past. She's cool. She was supposed to live here, too.
Oh, Christy.
Shame on you.
Yeah.
That's a good list.
That's a good list.
She has a big list.
You're already, your voice has gotten progressively quieter as we've gotten more and more fame.
