Episode Date: December 4, 2025

Boomer, Pinder & Rhett are joined by TSN’s Noodles as they dive into the NHL’s overtime problem… 3-on-3 has become completely over-coached and insanely boring. It’s all puck control, regro...uping, and circling back — zero chaos, zero fun. The guys debate how to fix OT, including bringing in an over-and-back rule and Rhett drops a brilliant idea for how he’d coach today’s 3-on-3. For the love of god, can someone fix this already?!VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/Yw8Mwru1h4U#nhl #nhlshorts #nhlplayoffs #nhlpredictions #nhlhockey #nhlpicks #stanleycup #stanleycupfinal CHECK OUT OUR STUFF ⬇️BARN BURNER MERCHhttps://nationgear.ca/collections/shirts/FlamesnationBARN BURNER SHORTS https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj_bcGtvvo-cW2DHEDZ6dEO5ePDmlhZc9&si=jo8iNGxT4ImhS2Y8📲 Follow us:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fnbarnburner/X (Twitter): https://x.com/barnburnerfn?lang=en🎧 Listen on:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/be/podcast/barn-burner-boomer-pinder-with-rhett-warrener/id1648562889Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3Mc6Qd5U22R2zbMlQ7RxIiProducer: Jack Haverstock Hosted on Acast. Starting point is 00:00:00 Can I just jump in on overtime really quick and then we can get to news the day? I think they need an over and back rule so bad for the offensive blue line. Like three on three when it came into the league was electric and like everything else in the league, coaches have figured it out. And now it's just huge reloads. Never lose the puck. Don't settle for a great A minus chance. It's got to be a grade A.
Starting point is 00:00:28 Oh, we're changing back to our goalie behind. Like I don't think it's that hard. And I think it's a really quick fix to bring the pace and excitement back of three and three. It used to be trading two on one. and now it's just one team reloading for two and a half minutes. And you'd get, you know what, to add on that, you'd get a finish in those five minutes. Yeah, exactly. We don't want shootouts, not more of them.
Starting point is 00:00:50 You know, now I feel like there's, I don't know, have the numbers, but I feel like there's been more shootouts as opposed to just goals in overtime. I don't know if that's true or not, or I feel like there's a formula there. But you're right, like the puck possession, hey, we want to try a look. it's not there. So circle back, head out of the zone, throw it back to the goalie,
Starting point is 00:01:11 get the change. You're right. It's been overthought and overcoached. And there probably is a fix there at some point. Okay. I've got a fix. So when I get my coaching gig, we're going to win the face off.
Starting point is 00:01:28 I could have the D do a pronger and just take it back and stand behind the net, nice and calm. Sweet. I'm pulling the goalie. Oh. Four on three other teams. He's not going to touch the puck.
Starting point is 00:01:41 Wangle. Going for it. Not a bad. I'll tell you to break a tie. I'll tell you that. The problem that I would have with that, Wreck, is some of these buildings,
Starting point is 00:01:52 the ice is crappy. So you go to make a pass and it bounces over a stick and you lose possession and the guy just wires in and they open net and you're... You got to go for it. You know what?
Starting point is 00:02:04 We've whussied everything. We're going for it. Come on. Get behind me with this. Come on. I'll be rational. I'm, well, listen, it's hard to be irrational, but I'm saying it's a good thought process,
Starting point is 00:02:17 and I don't mind people thinking outside the box. I just feel like that's the only thing. Like, I was in St. Louis the other day, the ice was so, and I played in St. Louis. The ice is known as not very great. For some reason, it felt like another level of bad the other night. And it was tough, it was a dog of a game, and it was tough to,
Starting point is 00:02:38 have two passes in a row. And that, that sucks. It's a, it's maybe a boring conversation for people to hear. The players are that good on that ice. Yeah. Right. Like, you, you underestimate that, the
Starting point is 00:02:58 difficulty of accomplishing these things at the best of times and then throw shitty ice on there and go, oh yeah, he just put that puck up, no problem. He kept stride, shot at. And, and, and, You know, some buildings are known to have some crappy ice, whether it's the Rangers, you know, because they-
Starting point is 00:03:15 Anaheim used to be awful, too. Anaheim, we had a game one time in Anaheim where it was a seven o'clock game and at 6.15, they still had the boards on the ice. And what had happened, they had put the boards on the ice when the ice was wet. Oh. So the boards had stuck into the ice. So they had 300 people on the ice chipping the boards off. Just 300 workers on the ice, keeping the boards off.
Starting point is 00:03:48 And I was like, we were sitting there going, we're probably not going to have a game. We started like eight minutes late. It was unbelievable. They got all of it cleared off. They had one Zamboni, and that was it. Way we go. I was starting that night going,
Starting point is 00:04:05 I don't know if we're going to play. And then we play. And I guarantee you we lost because I never felt like we had good. With the flames, we never had any success in Anaheim. Wasn't there a bad streak fair? Yeah, 20 years. Decades. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:19 I might have contributed to that. Oh, everyone did noodles, wasn't you?
