More about an hour. An hour from where we usually start. Maybe an hour and a bit. We're an hour and a half late, but an hour from where we usually start. Yeah. But I think we're about half an hour early from where we said we would be today. It's a good point. We've jumped to the gun.

Well, we'll get into it today on this Not a Flames game day. One preseason game left and then next week. Next week today. No kid. We'll be discussing game one of the season, I believe. Because they start on Wednesday in Vancouver to do that? They'll be undefeated or the other thing? Or the other one.

I said, well, I don't know that they're going to be all that good, but somehow, some way we might all be entertained by it. there might be some individual performances and you may enjoy watching but they might not have a lot of points. Yeah, it might not be a lot of wins, but you might leave the saddle. I'm thinking, you know, hey, good job, boys.

You didn't win, but we're happy with what we got. Entertained us? Yeah. And isn't that what it's all about in the end? Sure is, Dean. That's what Canadian fans are known for. They're understanding and their willingness to support their team just for the entertainment value. When it comes to hockey in Canada, it's not really about wins and losses.

it's just about having fun and enjoying my brother was at the hitman game yesterday he said it was a raucous crowd oh really rockus crowd about 1800 yeah yeah just packed in there yeah just enjoying the game well there you go the calgary kids were putting on a show apparently but not the calgary hitman kids the kids have played hockey in calgary now play for the plates i'll play somewhere else yeah there's more of those now it feels like it does it does there was a long stretch I'm trying to remember. I think it was Dead Pock era.

Like Thomas Hickey. He's the only guy out of Calgary, or Mike Green, right? Capitalist. Just a brand. Nobody.

Take the Mustangs. to the glue farm. How was the ringette? I don't know the name of the ringette teams. I've seen the jerseys before. It's associations. And then from there you pick your own names kind of thing. Oh, okay.

Yeah. So there's Northwest and I think it's Calgary South, I think. Bowview, of which we are. There's foothills, which is Okotoki, Okotoki area. Yeah. And then there's Indus. They've got a group out there. I'm probably forgetting somebody else, but it's not a lot.

It's, you know, it's kind of forgotten about. You'll get ice when all the other people get their ice. The kid played out. Yeah, she was very excited. She was more stressed. She'd been a goalie for two years, and this was her for a dad. I'm nervous.

So how did it afterwards? How long were you nervous? Did you get? Well, everybody else was nervous too. So then I didn't feel so bad. So everybody was nervous. I can tell you this. My kid was not nervous.

No? Could have cared less. Yeah. I actually said, could you at least just give it 30 seconds of thought? Yeah. Take the give a crap meter and let's just turn it up just a little bit. Turn it on. Let's just have it idling, but on.

They won that. So that's not a regulation. You know, fix that or just leave it? No, because I think if I try to tackle it, it's going to cost more issues that we're.

We showed the Winnipeg lineup yesterday. It was riddled with veterans. Pretty much an opening night, kind of what you would expect in the regular season for them. Not a lot of veterans. They actually called up Clark Bishop and Jonathan Asperot, if that's how you say his name, from the Wranglers. They'd already been on waivers, cleared, sent down, come on back up, because we're not taking a whole bunch of vets. So of the forwards who stayed home, Huberto, Cadry, Kuzmenko, Sharon Govich, Backland, Coleman, Pospisole.

Lomberg and Hansick. One of these things is not like the other. Maybe it does, maybe it does belong if you think one, but that was. Oh, does this mean that Hansick has played himself? He doesn't, he's shown all he needs to show. Is he in there? Hmm. Well, Connors Air he went and does he have the sniffles? Or does he have the sniffles? Yeah. Let's pretend it's not the sniffles.

Okay. Who, who, drama. What does this mean for Sam Hansick? Could it be nothing or could it be something?

I'm thinking about it from the, what does this mean for the flames? Mm-hmm. They've hit a home run with this mid-first-round pick.

But so there's more. There's a nice power play goal. Right in front. Not ideal. So this is the, Nieder rider is going to be left alone in front. Pause. I watched my kid play over the weekend and I noticed a lot of the same things. And I watched NHL games.

I saw a lot of it in Buffalo last year where the front of the net. If you had a telestrator, what would you be circling? I would be circling with two flames players. Yeah. And just the whole slot area in general, in my opinion, it's a very nice place to be if you're trying to score goals. So the guy in the blue sweater right in front of Wolf, is that? That's not ideal. That's the most troubling.

That's not ideal. We're falling atop of each other. And then when you get stuck on the wrong side, you may want to get physical. Right. Okay. As a defender, right? Like, I don't, you don't have to make a play on or with the puck all the time. And in the slot, oftentimes it's to your own benefit, again, as a defender, to just eliminate the man in the stick.

Yeah. I wonder what's going through Wolf's mind at this time. You're all alone in front, for sure. And I see five white sweaters, so you're not short-handed. You aren't short-handed. And the guy's using some creativity. you like it that was good uh matthew cornado fighting for a job that's not ideal that's in the net so don't turn that one off you're not happy there the pace is slowed considerably now as you can see there's about six minutes left they fly and play the same day it's not a get there the day before you know you're allowed you're playing an nchel thick roster on the other side uh and this one here there's not a lot of physicality here It's a dump. Sheifley just says, I guess I'll go get it.

I'll get it back. And now Kyle Connor, who can really score goals is left alone there. Feel for Wolf. There was not a whole lot going on. The defense. I don't feel for a goal. They just look out of sorts. Outmatched and out of gas.

This is now what, seven of eight, pre-season, how many frigging games they play? Absolutely, absolutely, except they haven't all played, all of them. I know. I know. That's why when we talked yesterday, Huska was asked, is there how much is left to be done? You've seen the lion's share of these games. We know the last one's going to be predominantly the NHL roster.

Can you really do a lot to help or damage your cause in this game? And when you watch it, I don't know how much stock or evaluation you really put into it. Well, he's definitely made the team. We had him on the team. Now he's definitely off. I think it's tricky. It is going to be tricky.

I don't know. I would think that they've got a lot of their roster spots filled in. I do too. And who's begging to take one? Like if they've got it with veteran guys. I mean, on this list, Zeri's on the team, math is on the team. Frick and a number of it,

they were already sent down or have clear. wavers so they know they're not sticking around i guess runy's somewhere in there roney and uh runy i think he'll be there just pelche another it's another quiet night hoom yeah another quiet night and on the back end coronado would be yeah coronado would be a guy that uh has gotten quiet over the the last few started off yeah real great uh wolf went the distance it's just tuning up for him. I don't know if Lidar goes in the finale. We'll see how that goes.

happens with Hansick for sure he's the most intriguing player in camp now yeah yeah right there's no one else that were bristavits would like to play well oh nice but there's no there's no there's no knock it on the door that you're surprised to see yeah yeah spoiler alert uh coming up uh bristevich part of a group that was sent to the american league this morning so some cuts have been made I can tell you who they are if you want to. Whatever if you're saving for the Pindroport. Aspero and Bishop were called back for this game. Yeah, they just got back.

Well, they're going back down. Bristevich, Frick, Kirkland, Sam Morton, on their way to the American Hockey League. Soloveev cleared waivers. He's down. So that leaves you. Three goalies, 9D, 18 forwards. 30 guys left.

Seems up a lot. You have a goalie in Devon Cooley, who is an extra. Your defense, Weiger Mirmanov, sounded like Ball and Anderson. We're going to get a spin at that's in the second pairing. Barry Pahall, and then it's Tenorty, Hanley, Jake Bean. Tenorty's going down. Hanley was a waiver guy that played a little bit, but didn't play every night. Pahall, also a waiver guy.

Jake Bean, they signed after. Schillington left. So I don't know. And then you've got Barry, who was on a PTO. I think they'll keep him. I kind of do too. I don't think he's been undeniable, but either as anybody else.

Well, that's just it. Everyone's like, wow, he's on a PTO. Yeah. My expectations for Barry were not to come in and put up three points a game. Yeah. So is he going to help your power play? Probably. Yeah.

Probably. Yeah. And then up front, you've got the usual suspects. as far as we'll walk through. Cadry with Kuzvenko and Sharangovic, Backl, Coleman, Zeri, Pospasal, say, Manta and Huberdough, and then Rooney, Pellche Lomburg.

Pellche is the one that's interesting because of the waivers. Hansik is in there, Klapka is in there, Coronado, and then Dryden Hunt, Cole Schwint, Walker, Doer. So Hunt, and the thing with Coronado, you don't need waivers.

You could probably see a situation where it's Hunt, Coronado, Wendt doer and then one of Hansik Klapka what do you do with Peltier I don't know Wow I think you have to give Peltier a chance to play Hansik doesn't need waivers so I I don't know you've I have no idea but I've got to imagine that if they put him on waivers somebody's gonna take a first round pick just why not yeah if you're San Jose you're going well yeah we can give them a whirl For the cost? Yeah.

The cost of zero? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The cost of zero is manageable. Clapka doesn't need, Coronado, Hansick, and Hansik and Klapka do not need waivers. So.

Not going to help their cause. No. Easy peasy for them to go down. And not the end of the world that they do. They haven't done enough to say I absolutely 100% have to be here. Yeah. I'd like Hansik to give it. Yeah.

Like you said. it would be nice to have a feel-good story come out of this camp, and that would be for me. That's a step in the right direction. It's not a, instead of, you know, I think he's played well, and we did bring up some concerns a couple weeks ago, and he's, not that he's responding to us, but he's played well to answer some of those concerns.

I would have expected at the end of this camp that there would be a big question mark about Hans. He's kind of answered that. Yeah. And it's a much better feel than leaving here going, well, is that first rounder going to? Yeah. We still don't know what we've got. Yeah.

And he's, he's answered the critics. Has he answered the critics? Sorry, has he answered the critics? I've not gone to a game. With his total play or with his points? I think with his play. Okay. I don't think he's just magically showing up on the score sheet.

Yeah. You know what I mean? There's times where you're like, oh, yeah, the guy had two points, but I didn't know he was out there. What's helped is they put him in a place to succeed. He was playing with, it was Kuzmenko and Kodryg a couple games ago. So that helps. Probably a few other guys would be like, I'd take a twirl there if you don't mind. If you're up for it there, Husk.

And as we also said, I don't know that it's, you get over it. And I don't think it's that terrible message. But he has to. have done just about everything that they would have asked for him at the start of camp come in make a difference be read the whole thing and he's gotten better the whole way play a few games if he can't keep up you send him down if he's keeping up and he's playing then keep riding it keep going let him go keep going so that's the that's the story there for the calgary flames well uh we'll look at some old flames coming up in the penderland yeah old flames i don't like to go down that path well i mean how many do you

Look how long it takes us to get. Five hour flight. That's a lot of fuel. We got to pay for you. I wonder that's because that's the thing, too, right? They can go faster. They absolutely can go fast. They can get you there quicker.

They just don't. To conserve fuel or what is it? Costs, yeah. I was told that it's because of scheduling. You can't get there too early because then it throws air traffic control. If everybody's moving faster, what the hell is. I know. It's a big business.

This whole show was unraveled. We were out of sorts at the start because we were doing something before the show that we came here. They were late but early. And then we stepped on a bloody landing.
