Well, yesterday was show, workout, kid hockey, brother-in-law birthday, flames, after burner, home of midnight. So it was,

the Panthers three power plays in the third and they'd have two and it would be a power play contest to win the game, I would have bet my mortgage on the Florida Panthers winning last night's hockey game. And it wasn't plot twist. The Flames Power Play was good. It wasn't. It was superheroes short-handed.

Like that penalty kill has been keeping this team in this gauntlet run in a major way. Because the power play has been fucking awful since the start of this run. Oh, the nice thing is as well is that when the power, the penalty kill maybe isn't quite as effective. Certainly, the power play has room to pick up some of that slack. You would think, yeah. The, uh, so it's now seven short-handed goals and 11 power play goals. Eight is. They scored. Oh, no, I'm sorry. It was six and seven last thing, was it. Yeah. Backland's two, two one goal was their seventh shorty of the season and the three one Coleman goal was their eighth of the season. Because the, the Coleman counts as a shorty, obviously. Oh, well, fair enough. Yeah. Yeah.

A weird one, but yes. It was a weird one. There you go. If you net their power play goals of the opponent allowed by their penalty kill and subtract the shorties they've scored, it's like top four in the league, which is very tidy. Very tidy. Very tidy. Their power play is 29th overall. They sit with a percentage of 11.3%.

Fuck, that's bad. And if you thought it couldn't be worse On home ice 9.1%. Since The second week of November So we're talking like over a month For a huge sample like five, six weeks

The penalty kill has outscored the power play Yeah That is a massive portion of the season Like one power play goal in their last eight games One for 19 0 for 5 last night And doesn't it feel like we just go from 1.0 for 17 to a 1 for 22 to a 1 for 7. Like they're just, it's just desert.

League average is around 900 now. Someone was tweeting this the other day. to be like 915. It was like 910 and 908. Like it's, league average is right around 900. It's a time for a Jacob to be north of the 900.

So congrats, buddy. Now just keep, you know, don't, don't, don't dip again. I just kind of keep it one of those. That was quite a performance last night. He was good. He looked very spry. 10 people in the crease.

it's like, who's going to give me a better chance to win? I'm the coach. I got to win. like, yeah, you're going to pick Markstrom a lot. But you start to see what he looks like when he's a little more rested. His last year in Vancouver, they played Demko a bunch and fuck, he was awesome. So good.

So they can't trade Vladar. They got to keep them for these seven, eight game stretches that Markstrom needs to go and load management, Dean. Load management. Feet rubbed. I think more to the point is if Jacob Marshall was playing like this, is that not the guy that gets you the hall that you want to trade? Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

I'm just saying, I'm glad you had a win last night and a little whoopty to where they singing. They were doing the wave, weren't they? They had the sure, it's great. They did the way. So, but Dean, it's not one game against Florida. Like, didn't we look at this 15-game stretch and say, say they're toast. Ryan.

You can't throw out those results, right? Ryan, you're missing this again. It happened last week. It's happening again. It's not what we think. It's what Murr thinks. Right. It's how Murr runs his team.

So that's what I'm saying to Murr. Yeah. I'm saying, like us, take a big picture look. Yeah. Prior to the game the other night, they had one win in their last seven. This, they've won back-to-back games on home ice and the captain's scores and the goalie looks good and the young guys are great possible school stores again it's all great just don't don't get out don't start uh thinking that there's something going on here that

not that great that's what i'm saying like we are all on the same page but here it is man like if that's the toughest 15 games in their schedule and they're out over 500 why wouldn't craig think this team can make the playoffs yeah dean so what what what is it you're doing right now are you i'm playing devil's advocate and you hate it. Well, no, I just never know because you never play devil's advocate. You only go with like the numbers and you're never willing to play around or do this. The problem though for him, Dean. Look at these numbers.

There's six, five, and two in one of the most. This is what I'm saying. It's not a small sample where they're playing well. This is their toughest, you know, sixth of the season. And they're going to come out of it likely 500 or better, which is like, holy shit. They're in all these games. They have not been outclassed. they didn't show up against Minnesota at home.

That's the only ugly loss they have. And all these other games, they're in. And they missed Tanna for four. They missed Markstrom for three, I believe. And they blew third period leads in three in a row in Colorado, Vegas, and Minnesota. You're telling me this team isn't good enough to make the playoffs. So you're in your love affair to debate and argue, you're now telling me that the flames were a playoff team.

That's what's happening right now? What I told you the beginning of this run is if they were 500, I was in on them making the playoffs. I'm kind of pot committed, aren't I? I'm being true to my word. If they can be 500 or better against the 15 toughest games in their schedule, why couldn't they beat out

Arizona, St. Louis, and let's say like a Minnesota to get into a playoffs. I really hope that there's a correction here and that they do a prudent long-term thing. But I also think there's just going to be a lot of people measuring, what's happened the last month that aren't just going to throw it out. They're going to say these games

mattered and they don't look like they're in a different class than these division years. Their game under 500 even after having played this well. Yeah. So it's not just it's all fine and good for you to say well the gauntlet they've played this well

and they're above a game a game above 500 on the gauntlet run yet they're a game under 500 for the year. Yeah. That The two seven and one start was fucking miserable. Well, you can't just discount it. No, but it's the furthest thing away from what this team is today, right?

There's no games this season that resemble the team less than those first ten. Where you had a Zadorov and you were playing Sharon Govich on the fourth line and Dubay on the top line. Like, they were better now than they were then. We get that. They're still a long way from the playoffs. I mean, like, I'm kind of talking. on both sides of my mouth, which is frustrating you, no, it's a talent that you have. It is a talent that you have. Because look at the way

you're responding. It's talent that you have. Just don't understand. For months we've sat here and you've been, don't do this. Don't be stupid. Daring sound trip. I'm just saying. And now I say, I say, don't let this current, this little string of success sway you into thinking. And you're like, hey, oh, what are you talking about? I, uh, you, you just love to argue. And now you're arguing in in like do you really believe what you're spitting right now or are you just trying to be a bucket tipper i'm doing both i to be fair fair internally there's going to be some debate about this that's really my point because we don't have any fucking say on what this team does but murray does

and craig does and jerome does and the rest of that management team does you're telling me they watch 15 games they don't think maybe we could like i think it's at least a conversation that's happening in the flames organization right now it's where my original point came in. Don't be fooled. You played Florida last night in the fifth of a five-game road trip with their backup. That goal by Pospasal is not beating 99% of goaltenders in the NHL on any other night. The goal on Vasilevsky by Zari the other night, that's not beating him 99% of the time.

There's a lot of things that have happened here. They've gotten bounces. Things have gone their way. They've had their offense clicking at the highest rate that it has. I don't think they had nine goals in two games during this run. Don't be fooled is what is all I'm saying. Yeah, they didn't lose both. Don't be fooled.

I agree with the original point. Like, I agree with you. It's just, it is quite stunning how competitive they've been. And it isn't like they haven't had to play their backup in third stringer a lot. And it isn't like they haven't had to run Jordan Austerley for 20 minutes a night a couple times. What did you say, Warner?

I said, I'm not stunned because I think this is what. if you really break it down, this is where the team, the murky, muddy, mucky, whatever middle you want to call it, that they are where they are, and they're there for a reason, because they're good enough to win some games, but they're not a real threat. They just aren't.

And I think your best case scenario is you can move a Lindholm still and still be in the same spot. I don't think. Lindholm has been so good that if you move him and get returned, that you're going to plummet seven places. I think it's more what comes into Lindholm's hole if he leaves. But it's not going to be zero. No, but they don't have another center.

Like who are you putting down the middle? That's sort of what I'm thinking. You got a 33 and a 35 year old is your top two centers now and your top, your hottest scorer is playing on his wing. But you're right. It's like if you could somehow feed, serve both masters, where you can be better long term and recoup assets, but also be competitive.

That's the challenge. You still have to break down some other stuff too. Your power play is horseshit. You don't win the playoffs without a good power play. But what if it comes around red? Then what if it comes around guys, they're way over 500 in this. I know.

Right? And so I'm not trying to tip buckets, but it's like we can't just ignore. They've been very, very good against really good. good teams for a month. What it is in all in all, and we've talked about this, but in in all seriousness, we talked last year a lot and even the year before about the dysfunction in the room and about what this was.

Listen, this, this for a while now has looked like a team that's, whether you want to call it chemistry or whatever, but we've said it. When one line comes out, the same momentum is there. There's not peaks in valleys. It's fairly consistent. Credit to the character of the team. and credit to the coaches for having them play to this level. You can't control road trips that visiting teams have.

You can't control their injuries or who they start in net. All you can do is go out and play. And they have played not max potential, but they've played close to their best or what you can expect from them on a fairly consistent basis. And that's a tip of the cap to that, for sure. It's a much more functional team than the one we watched last year under Darrell. So what, yeah, is it,

Like they get along. Is it just Darrell? Is that the? No, no. But I think it's like, rec could speak to it. There's certain years where there's just like bad start, bad vibes, guys get into clicks, people aren't getting along.

No one wants to show up to rank. You're losing. Sorry to interrupt you, Ryan. But I think we are underestimating the roster structure from this year to last year. Because that's the first thing I'd pointed out. Like you said, Wrette couldn't speak to it. My first thing would be, look at the fourth line.

Yeah, better fourth line. Who the F was on the fourth line last year. But Daryl could have built this fourth line last year. I'm not, I get that. He didn't. He didn't. So you had a bunch of old bastards that didn't have a lot. Are you telling me that they're pumped going to the rink this morning?

They're thinking about Christmas and they're thinking about family shit. And they're thinking about get. What the hell is Pospisal and Zari thinking about? This is awesome. Good job. Next shift. This is wicked. can't wait to play in L.A.

it's been appreciated from fans to watch the game. I appreciate it because I'd rather see these kids that are playing with some energy and some excitement. Look at how it's turned out. So that's, breach.

Yeah, and I think like 10 games in, it's like, Darrell was right. And Darrell was right about a lot of stuff. People keep trying to paint this as a binary thing, that there was only one issue and you just change one thing and all the problems around. It was never that. You cannot oversimplify it.

There's a lot of dynamics to a 23-man roster and a huge organization where management and coaching have to communicate and be on the same page. Darrell was right about a lot of stuff. But I think the last 15 games have, I think, told you that Trilliving was right about some other things too that he didn't get to show last year and that certainly Huska's on the right page of some things.

I think he's quietly done a very good job here. He hasn't hung any of his players out to dry. He has shown them there's an expectation that has to be met or there's consequences. And he's not been afraid to roll with his players that are flying in the final 20 minutes every game, whether they're rookies or veterans. Like I've really liked the job he's done.

You know what I'm going to do right now? I'm going to do a bit of a segue. But I feel like the timing is right. While we're here talking about a team that is seeing the value in young players and recognition of what you are and maybe walking away from a veteran, making trades that are hard, it's time for McLeod Law this day in flames history. This kid from Edmonton. And what did this kid turn into? The greatest flame of all time. Hockey Hall of Famer, he is, of course, is Jerome McGinla. And if you, not to say, you're going to be able to hit home runs like this every time. But it's just food and a seed for Mr. Edwards, back to the original point. it was probably very, very hard for the brass at the time to move away from Joe Newendike. But sometimes it's, you got to get young.

I would say grapefruit for the paloma and you stay away from grapefruit with the margarita. It all depends on what this Christmas margarita turns into. That is a bit flexible right now. So that's all, and again, it's not a criticism. These are just thinking of It's going to be a mango Cranberry, I think. If we want to go back to back

tequila's right there, if you're too similar, maybe you sub one or you distance them. Yeah. And then what is the dark and stormy? The dark and stormy is a rum, a spiced rum typically or a dark rum with ginger beer.

And we've got two ginger beer drinks. That is correct. The different ends. The other being the pepper mint mule. So there's a bunch of drinks in the middle. And so the question is, do you like those drinks further apart it together? You were saying with tequila, separate them, maybe you keep them together and that's easier. I don't know. I might like one ginger beer drink. Okay. Now again, here I am. It feels like I'm criticizing. I don't have a substitution.

It's an easy solution because the dark and stormy is a rum-based beverage. If you have another mix you want to put with your rum, by all means, uh, audible, the line of scrimmage. Right. guy. Oh, look at that. Stormy. It was really hard. On the fly. I'm dying to find one more.
