We dive into the Toronto Maple Leaf Story today as we continue to preview the Canadian NHL clubs this week. This is a team that had huge changes. I don't know that on that right column if you'd see a team with more additions and subtractions over and off season. And well, that's what happens when you have an incredibly miserable season. And you change GMs and you win the first overall pick with the draft lottery and select Gavin McKenna, a lot there. But I don't know that there's been more talent added by one team than Rattis, who had an incredible breakout year. Babrovsky, who, has been one of the best goals

in the NHL the last five years and then McKenna who has been those first three editions are impactful big time even Nick Paul's a depth center didn't have a great year last year in Tampa but that will help them they've sort of struggled at that 3C spot and they had a lot of stay at home

rugged not that great at moving the puck defenseman they swap out Benoit for Andre it's a very different group I don't know how it's going to go is Nick Paul's center he is but he's listed on the wing here they got a lot of centers I guess. I guess so. Uh,

yeah, Ottawa and then Tampa. Chris Tenev. Stay healthy, I was going to say the news this morning out of Toronto. They're doing their thing. Chris Tanev has been ruled healthy and is good to go. And,

uh, Max Domi did not pass his physical. He had off-season surgery and is out as you can see there indefinitely. No surprise there. And I think when you look at how Matt, talk to your brother, get this ass to figure out. Every time.

It's good. I like it. Matt's like, even know who to call. They didn't have a GM. I'm trying to get Dylan out of there. Leafs throw those lines back up. We'll keep talking about him. Jack. If I put it at Ret Warner Hockey, would I be able to write things on sure? Definitely. Really? People are waiting to even tag weager. I saw I had a Twitter handle. I didn't know. Warner 44. In the whole seemed like a lot of money at the time and now doesn't.

The Darren Radish eight and a half million gone to 100%. So you're a fifth defenseman? five years, eight and a half. It's like, yeah, why that's top pair, 20 goals, even sneeze. Booming shut on a power play, yeah, that's a good deal. Like there again, I don't know, that bottom six doesn't do a whole lot to, he's a count's a young guy. There's a lot of lunch pill there. But if, if Nealander can score and if Matthews can get back to doing what he does,

if Nize takes a step, I don't even know what, what do you expect out of McKenna? I'm glad, yeah. Whatever you get is, it's nice, but I don't want you can point. Oh, yeah, Dean. Well, hang on. So I went to bet three six five. What do you think the line is for over under on points for McKenna? Because I'm not expecting to know, but it's just an interesting exercise to see where people's expectations.

45. Okay. What do you think over under is for McKenna? 60. Jack? 55. 61 and a half, right? Almost drills it.

Like that is. Classes. Thanks, Jack. That's a little. A lot of points. And I get it. You know, it's Toronto and you're balancing money as well as setting lines. But, um, is you going to ride shocking with Austin Matthews all year?

Or is you going to have to earn that spot? Is you getting power play one reps or like this is a team where we don't even, we don't know it's going to go. We don't know. Well, speaking of being on the record, you were on the record as saying they are a plate. They will make that. That is incorrect. I said, I think this team is a lot closer than we think.

And they could make the playoffs. Yeah. And that took a lot of heat. But playoff odds minus 115 on bet 365. They are not even money. They are better than even money to make the playoffs this year. I'm not quite there, but, you know, this looked very, very bad before.

I think Chica's a lot of moving parts here. And he went in the lottery obviously helps, but. You were going to get somebody anyway. Like a lot of those. Not to play this year, though, right? A lot of those moves will be much, anyway, not McKenna, but if Bobrovsky isn't good. Yeah.

Then it's back to Stolar's and it's. Or if Radish is back to 12 goals, 30 points. But if they can't keep the puck out of the net, all that other stuff isn't going to be able to. Yeah, but a couple of years ago, Stalars was going to be good. I know.

He was very good two years ago. The health, again, goalies. But this was a team that missed the playoffs they picked first overall with the drafts. 78 points last year, the overrunner this year said at 95 and a half. They're expecting an almost 20 point increase. I'm not quite at that number,

but they're obviously going to be better because they just, they couldn't have been more dinged up and done worse with the guys, they had. The other one I looked at was Austin Matthew's goals. They've set that of 42 and a half. He's cleared that a ton. He's also looked as bad as he's looked

last year. He looked like he was very quick. And why that's what makes his team so hard to panting down, right? What the hell are you? That same division that we keep telling you is. And it's a new coach. Like just another layer, right? It's quite something. 19 goals, 35 assists for 54 points. Yes.

My goal. That's AI's call. They barely have any cap space. They're 2.8 under. but Domi, they'll move to LTR. He's making 3.75. They don't need cap space right now. They need to find out if they're any good. You got to see if you're, yeah, exactly.

And the Bob thing's fascinating as well, because not unlike Stolar's, it's like last year Bob looked like one of the worst goalies by all the metrics in the NHL, behind an awful team. A year prior, he was unbelievable and pretty much won in the cup. Is the truth in the middle,

or is he one of those two versions? Well, it's in the pudding. Okay. Totally in the pudding. That defense, and I know it's not up there right now, and I'm not taking a run at you necessarily, but if that blue line was in Edmonton, with a 30-year-old, a 32, a 32, a 34, a 35,

Stetcher's 32. Yeah, they're very long in the tooth. Right. And again, I think Edmonton's a much better team that's wrong. It's not close. This is the weakness of the group. Butterscotch, that's my favorite pudding. What would be the over-under for games played for 10 of this?

this year. I'd set it at 42, half a season, maybe 41 and a half. Does it get to a point where if he is injured a lot this year, it's kind of like, dude, it's time. Like, there has to be a pin, and that pin has to be pulled at some moment. Right? Well, keep in mind, he's got four years left on his deal. Don't care.

He's going to get paid no matter what. They put guys on Robeda Island before. It's called Robeda Island for a reason. Well, you would not have a hard time arguing with the league saying, Have you seen the injury history? Oh yeah. Like the year the flames are trying to try them. Which I like to X-ray hit or MRI his body because none of it's real.

Like how many times did Chris Tanna go down the tunnel within two weeks, two months of him getting traded by Craig Conrad? Like that was a nervous watch. Every other game it felt like. It's not going to get faster. The more capable of getting out of the way. Interesting to see Morgan Riley still there. Yeah.

It just felt like he and Darnell Nurse both are going to leave their teams and move on. Nurse obviously lands in San Jose. but now Morgan Riley, 32, the only team he's ever been with, he's got four years left that's cast better in a bottom role and seven and a half. Now, I think three months ago, people are like, ah, it's too much. I think that's changed. Well, and he's not going to run PowerPlay one anymore. That'll be Radish.

Like, I don't think he's going to be an impactful player, but he might be better with less. If you know what I have another defenseman that could. Well, it's Radish that'll run the power play. No, I know, but they still think they need a defense. Yeah, I wouldn't be. And they've, if they go add one at the deadline, if they're in it, that makes sense. If they're way out of it, obviously you don't. You start trying to sell some of these older guys.

The bottom of six does not have a lot of scale, but there's a lot of dirt under the fingernails there. And it's like, okay, Austin Matthews, are you the guy that floored with 70 goals? Are you the guy that doesn't look like you can shoot the puck anymore and you finish somewhere in the 20s? Yeah, you can't be hurt. Like, I have no idea what this team's going to look like if we don't know what Austin Matthews is. It's been a very wide variance his last few years. It just feels like to me a lot's got to go right. The goalie's got to be good.

That D has to be better than it looks on paper. They've done good things. It's just, then this comes up and you're like, oh, shit, that's not easy. That's a tough division. Yeah. And still better odds than you're seeing for the Sends who are much younger,

deeper team. Or the Buffalo Sabres who went to the Seder. Which I find I would heavily fade the Leafs here and hammer Buffalo to. So Bet365s has Buffalo missing? Or a wild card if the Atlantic gets. five teams in and not the metric against three. No, it's, they're the three and two. Sixth best odds.

Oh, they're six. Thank you. Yeah, longest. And again, these are division winning, not necessarily point totals. I'll look at, I have it right here in terms of the central what they were projected point totals were. They got Buffalo at 95 and a half. This is a week ago. Toronto was at 95 and a half. Ottawa was at 94 and a half.
