Barn Burner: Boomer & Pinder with Rhett Warrener - Are The San Jose Sharks The SNEAKY Best Fit For Connor Hellebuyck?? w/TSN's Noodles| BB Clips
Episode Date: September 17, 2026Boomer, Pinder and Rhett are joined by Noodles to dive into the never-ending Connor Hellebuyck trade saga — and Noodles throws out a fascinating wildcard destination: the San Jose Sharks. Hellebuyck... has publicly requested a trade from Winnipeg, and San Jose has recently been mentioned among the possible destinations he could be open to. The guys debate whether the Sharks are actually ready to make a move this massive, what Winnipeg could possibly want back and whether adding an elite goaltender right now could accelerate everything San Jose is building around its young core. The Sharks might not be the obvious Hellebuyck destination, but could Noodles be onto something here? Are we about to see a MASSIVE blockbuster between Winnipeg and San Jose?Video Link: https://youtu.be/SXGoLcepqYg#nhl #nhlshorts #nhlplayoffs #nhlpredictions #nhlhockey #nhlpicks #stanleycup #stanleycupfinal #sanjosesharks CHECK OUT OUR STUFF ⬇️BARN BURNER MERCHhttps://nationgear.ca/collections/shirts/FlamesnationBARN BURNER SHORTS https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj_bcGtvvo-cW2DHEDZ6dEO5ePDmlhZc9&si=jo8iNGxT4ImhS2Y8📲 Follow us:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fnbarnburner/X (Twitter): https://x.com/barnburnerfn?lang=en🎧 Listen on:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/be/podcast/barn-burner-boomer-pinder-with-rhett-warrener/id1648562889Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3Mc6Qd5U22R2zbMlQ7RxIiProducer: Jack Haverstock Hosted on Acast. I think Winnipeg's handled it very well.
We didn't hear much until Helibuck put that statement out.
There was a lot of whispers and, you know, speculation.
But nothing from Winnipeg is broken.
It's all been Connor Helibuck and his agent that have come out.
And you look at it and I will say this.
And I want to give Chevy the benefit of the doubt.
When his back's been up against the wall with PLD and Truba and that,
he was able to get some pretty good stuff for those players.
So let's see what he does.
for Hellebuck.
Where's the best fit?
Where's the best fit?
Buffalo.
And here's my wild card one, San Jose.
Oh, yeah.
Because San Jose's a team on the rise.
Askerov?
Yeah, but Ascroft would probably have to be in the deal.
That's what I was good.
Yeah, I'm just speaking out.
I'm just talking to interrupt you, but he's supposed to be good.
Yes, he's supposed to be.
And he's one of those guys that has has this reputation.
I like his skill set, but every time I've watched him,
he's gotten pulled. Like it's awful. I must be a jinx for this guy.
Well, and they've been so bad defensively, too, noodles, right?
Like, it just, I watched him. Other than one night, I think he played in
Edmonton or Winnipeg and he made 50-some saves and was ridiculous and lost in overtime.
But outside of that, this guy's been skating to the bench sitting beside me on nights,
which I'm like, what the hell's wrong with this guy?
Everybody likes you. He's a hell of a goaltender, I think, from a skill set,
but he has to learn the process. I just, like, I think,
a wild card team would be
San Jose's got the currency to do it too.
You could package up,
Ask her off and maybe Mesa and make that
a deal. Oh, yeah. Orpex forever
prospects, they got all those. Yeah, they've got
like they've got the currency to do it, but I just don't know if they would.
That's the question I want to ask. So they've got the currency.
I think they've done
a hell of a job. They've been fortunate with maybe their draft pick,
blah, blah, blah, but they've hit it out of the park.
Greer has. Yeah. Yeah.
Do you have any concerns that they try to expedite it?
Yeah. Because my thoughts are stick to the plan, man. You have it made. Like you have a
plethora of dude. Don't rush to. So so.
Teams F it up when they rush things. You're right. But I, I would think their expectation
for this season is to look at what Anaheim did last year and go, that's us. We, we, we,
now can be a playoff team. We now can, you know, win around or push somebody, you know,
something like that. That is the next step. Now, can Askeroff deliver that? Now, if you're not
giving up the farm, and we'd heard all sorts of, oh, you know, Austin Matthews is being traded and
it's going to be for this and that. He's going to San Jose because, like, it's all nonsense until
something happens. And I don't even think, I don't know if Matthews will ever leave Toronto.
That's a different argument. But my point being is saying,
San Jose has the currency.
I don't think they're going to screw it up,
even if they went and got Hellebuck and gave a king's ransom for it.
They have, my only question is, and this is weird for me to say this,
this guy has three business and a heart.
And I still talk to goalie coaches.
They're like, no, don't love them.
Don't love is that lack of athletic.
Isn't that crazy?
I'm like, are you nuts?
The guy's literally probably the most decorated goaltender.
I would still take Vasilevsky.
Like if you guys just said,
give me a goaltender, I just say,
just get the Russian out of
Tampa, that's my guy.
There's no difference.
Like, it's the playoff thing for Helibuck.
Yes, but like when I'm just talking
from a technical standpoint.
Hellebuck is not super athletic.
He's amazing at reading plays.
Like he's, his hockey IQ is off the charts
because he can see plays develop.
But when you watch him,
there's a limit in his mobility.
There's a limit in.
in its athleticism.
But he's big.
He fronts pucks.
And the way that Winnipeg defends,
it suits perfectly for Hellebuck.
What happens is when he gets in troubles,
they open him up and they get him moving side to side.
And he ends up, you know,
we've seen the Stuart Skinner's on their faces.
You know, Mike Smith used to do it in Calgary.
Like instead of pushing side to side,
they end up doing the breaststroke.
And that's, that's the one thing that's pointed out to me with Hellebuck,
is he's not extremely athletic.
So he needs to play in a pretty, you know, tight system for him to play 65 games,
for him to do what he does because he poke checks.
He's pretty unorthodox.
And, you know, you put him on any other team that doesn't defend well.
It might expose him.
He might look different.
So I think that's the, that's a crazy thing to say for a guy with three Veznas and a heart trophy.
But you have to look at the style of what a team plays.
And does he fit into that?
There a team that would be the greatest fit
that's never ever paid for goal tend to be Carolina
because no one's got more defensive structure than the canes.
But again, you're asking Eric Tulski to do something he's never done,
which is go pay a premium for a goal.
He's happy to take guys off the scrap heap and plug him in behind his system.
Yep.
And you're right.
But I look at that system.
Connor Hellebuck could play till he's 45 in that system.
Totally.
Because of the way that they defend, they block a lot of shots,
So not a lot of East West plays, and he's big, and he anticipates, and he, you know,
he moves into the puck.
He's a first shot goal tenor.
Let's call it that.
So I, you're right.
And here's the crazy thing with salaries escalating.
He makes eight, like eight and a half.
Cheapest chips.
It was it a $4 million less than Shasturkin?
Yeah.
But that's, that's the crazy thing is he's attractive financially.
It's attractive from a durability.
standpoint, other than last year, he missed six weeks, but like the guy's been a rock star for
years. And there should be a lineup of four or five teams banging down Chevy's door. And it just
doesn't sound like it is. It's not busy.
