Barn Burner: Boomer & Pinder with Rhett Warrener - Are We SLEEPING On The Boston Bruins?? | BB Clips
Episode Date: September 9, 2026Boomer, Pinder and Rhett preview the Boston Bruins heading into the 2026-27 season and try to figure out exactly what this team is after a surprising 100-point season and a return to the playoffs last... year. Boston is still built around David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy and Jeremy Swayman, but the Bruins are also starting to build their next wave with Fraser Minten, James Hagens and the addition of JJ Peterka, who gives them another dangerous offensive weapon alongside Pasta. The guys break down whether Boston actually improved this offseason, if Swayman can follow up his bounce-back year, whether Hagens is ready to make an impact and how much Peterka changes the look of their top six. The Bruins proved a lot of people wrong last season, but in an absolutely loaded Atlantic Division, are they good enough to take another step — or are they still stuck somewhere between rebuilding and legitimately contending?Video Link: https://youtu.be/Rvz0EdfmbVo#nhl #nhlshorts #nhlplayoffs #nhlpredictions #nhlhockey #nhlpicks #stanleycup #stanleycupfinal #bostonbruins CHECK OUT OUR STUFF ⬇️BARN BURNER MERCHhttps://nationgear.ca/collections/shirts/FlamesnationBARN BURNER SHORTS https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj_bcGtvvo-cW2DHEDZ6dEO5ePDmlhZc9&si=jo8iNGxT4ImhS2Y8📲 Follow us:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fnbarnburner/X (Twitter): https://x.com/barnburnerfn?lang=en🎧 Listen on:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/be/podcast/barn-burner-boomer-pinder-with-rhett-warrener/id1648562889Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3Mc6Qd5U22R2zbMlQ7RxIiProducer: Jack Haverstock Hosted on Acast. We'll start with the Boston Bruins, a team that I think surprised us
and that they really haven't fallen into we need to rebuild mode.
They were terrible two years ago, weren't they?
Because the goalie was terrible.
Yeah, they missed Swaymanhead to the contractual holdout.
And that led him to have a very mediocre year.
He was, I believe, a Vesna finals last year, a very solid year.
It's a team that I don't think has a high ceiling, but they showed you last year.
They can hang.
They ended up, what, going six years?
or seven against Buffalo in around month.
That's pretty good.
That Pasternak and Peturka's supposed to be decent.
The Turk is a guy that can score it came over from Utah.
That's a tough fourth line they've got there.
That is.
Low rise should be better.
And he's played.
McAvoy's good, but he's always getting beat up nowadays.
My God, that poor guy.
Netherland home.
They got two Lund homes.
Collect them all.
That's Hempos.
Hampos.
They picked up Billy Borgon.
That's one of their off-season acquisitions of note.
Connor Clifton's back in the mix.
And J.J.
Peturka was the big swing in the office.
offseason deletions include Victor Arvidson, who of course famously led the Oilers into not matching
two-foot putt off sheets.
Hagen's a high-end pick.
And this is the thing.
5.3 million in Capspace, Corpusallo and Arvetson gone.
The question for the Bruins is Hagen's ready to make an impact with this group because they
could use him.
Yeah, if he can play it, it's going to be a pick-up.
And, yeah, because I just wanted to get the number because I know it can change in that.
The bet 365.
I've got it right here for you.
87 and a half points is the over under for the bruns.
That's not enough to get into playoffs.
It certainly isn't.
So the books who are not emotional and not fans are thinking 87 and a half points,
it would take a very miserable year and a soft division and conference to get in with 87.
This is probably the toughest division in hockey.
The books are saying, okay, floor is okay, but we don't love the ceiling.
Of note with the bruns today, they actually reupped Fraser Minton.
Just a little peaceful add to a deal from Toronto, a year of,
ago. What's he getting, Jack?
Was it 50 million?
700 and, oh, seven plus million a year.
Oh, welcome to the new NHL.
I was actually, when looking at this,
because they had
a pissing match with Swamen back in the day.
Yeah.
These goalies are underpaid.
Okay.
Who's making big dough?
Shasturkin. How much?
Like, what, 12, 13?
Okay, so Shasturkin and Edwin? I think he's great.
I think he's fine. But you're right.
A lot of them are coming into that, like,
7.5 to 9.
8 million for Swayman was like, what?
Remember Hella?
Yeah, those are a flat captain.
Whatever. So 87 and a half points
of the Bruins is the over under, they have 5.3 million in cap space.
What does Hagen's look like?
It's my biggest question for them.
That's on the Bruins?
Yeah, I guess I was a little surprised because plus 275,
just this bet three six five, make the playoffs or not, plus 275.
So it's, if you think they can sneak in,
that's a good number.
That's a good number.
They did get in last year.
Swimming and Higgins.
Sturm a good coach?
I don't know.
Is this guys where it's been like he has not,
he's kind of been blunt and in his hands.
Well, you know what it was.
It was the flames got the guy off waivers.
It was the fourth line center for a while.
Yeah.
They brought in and Johnny Beecher.
Thank you, John Beecher.
And Stern's like, yeah, no, didn't see the motor.
Nope, not for us.
Like very unfiltered in his comments.
Which is great.
I love it.
Yeah.
I think he's probably,
if you had to give him a grade on year one they did better than you thought i think we thought
they'd miss the playoffs they snuck in like he's gonna have to coach his ass off because you look at
it and it feels like it's swayman and a defensive they're not going to outscore anybody
on at least on paper you like pasturnak but yeah lindholm is long in the tooth middle stats
never really been a a huge offensive guy and i mean they have centers 19 yeah it's i don't know
that's and i don't think can't rely on it but boy there's some 19 year old come in yeah it's
exactly that. And you look at them and you're like,
they certainly have a lot of two and three scenes.
But like Pavel Zaka, you put him in a series
against Barkov? I see.
Oh, so he's not as good as
but what they're missing is
the one C and that's
what they drafted Hagan's to be.
When he becomes that, we don't know.
What about Butyrka?
It's a bit of a bet, but you're betting
on the hardest thing to find. The hardest
thing to find, in my opinion.
Silver's had the bet, Utah
had the bet. Boston's having the
Yeah.
What do they know that you know.
Good.
Put some work, kid.
Gave up a fair amount to get him.
But he does score.
What about geeky?
Can he have another year?
Another year like that.
He scored.
What again?
He got 39.
Oh, man.
Almost 40.
So just as a word of, well, retro's thoughts of the day.
So they're not good offensively is what you're telling you?
Well, where did they finish in goals last year?
Probably middle of the package.
Well, again, if he had 39.
What did Pastor that have, right?
Wait a minute.
No, but those are those are those guys can score.
It was a breakout.
The offense as a whole.
It wasn't Colorado, right?
Holy Christ.
No, but is it middle third of the league?
That's what I'm guessing.
That's all D.S.
Because you know, you like the goaltending.
If McAvoy's healthy, the decor is fine.
But are they going to score now?
Twice you've given them examples of the elite of the elite.
Oh, they're not.
You know what?
They were eighth in goals for last year.
They were better than we thought.
I just wonder if geeky
You gotta know your stuff.
You kind of just get him down a road
so they could put the noose around their own.
