Starting point is 00:00:13 Grab it, grab it. Right? Yesterday. Yeah, something like that. How are we doing, everybody? Welcome to the show. I miss the, see, we still got the lights up,
Starting point is 00:00:23 but I miss the Christmas intro. Yeah, I took the Christmas stuff. Oh, that's all right. It's time. It's the new year. It's a bohumbugger. So, yeah. You are.
Starting point is 00:00:31 Get it all over. It's a new year. Christmas is over. Yeah, it's a new year. It's a new year. Old boom. Yep, same old boom. It's, uh,
Starting point is 00:00:43 Say that again. Hey, presentation of Bet365, game props, player props, totals, money line, bowl season,
Starting point is 00:00:52 final week in the NFL, afternoon hockey, you know it. Bet 365. Get the app. Get in on the game. It's never ordinary at Bet365.
Starting point is 00:01:05 And the Super Chad is up and rolling. If you're watching live, you put some money down along with your comment, we'll talk about you, make fun of you. And then pass along the dough to the youth centers. of Calgary as we are here in a still Christmasy McLeod Law LLP studios. The tree is up.
Starting point is 00:01:22 All that sort of stuff's still there. But I guess it's about time to, you know. Who's going to put it away? Well, who? Because it's always better putting things up. Cooking's better than it. Maybe McLeod Law. Maybe they'll slide on by.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Pop in. Yeah. Maybe Shane and Austin, the guys. Hey, guys. We love taking down. decorations and all that sort of thing. See, I find it's the opposite. When you're putting it up, you're kind of, okay, all this and that and this sort of thing.
Starting point is 00:01:53 When you're tearing it down, your gibbushit meter's gone now. It's like just, I can toss it up to me. More or less, that's how it goes at my place. That's kind of, yeah, it's kind of how that goes, I think. Holidays, holidays. I've got nine grand of my credit card. That sort of thing. How's everyone feeling?
Starting point is 00:02:15 How do we feel about New Year? are we good? It's all right. Good. Yeah. What'd you do? F all. Yeah, nothing.
Starting point is 00:02:23 You did A.F. What's A? A.B. After burner. I did do after burner. That was fun. Oh, I bet. Good game.
Starting point is 00:02:33 People were excited. People were excited. 500. Go to the dome. Big win. Boop, boo, boo, boo, boo. Boo, boo.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Fireworks afterwards. Maloney strut around a fucking told you so. You fat fuck. Hey, boom. Why do you think about that? Hey? You like the core? Hey, tubby.
Starting point is 00:02:52 How's your fantasy hockey? Hey? Go play fantasy. Huh? I don't know that. Just fucking double fist and fucking five one. That's my Don Maloney impression on New Year's Eve. Your Year's Dawn.
Starting point is 00:03:11 What a party that guy. NYD. That's what it is. odd that you're... 18, 18 and 4, fuckers! Odd at your front and center for his celebration. Yeah, I was there.
Starting point is 00:03:24 Yeah, lurking in the background. Taking the L, just like, you know what? You're right. Yeah. You're right. And then Conroy's like, how's that backland extension
Starting point is 00:03:35 looking now? You son of a bitch. Critique it again. Go ahead. Somebody playing the best hockey of his goddamn life. Yeah, you're right. You're right.
Starting point is 00:03:45 I'm just going to sit here and just keep doing this. You know, what you are? Do you work for, no, we don't work for an outlook that we have no credibility whatsoever. We just do this thing. We sit on YouTube. Anybody can do it.
Starting point is 00:03:59 We're not special. Well, we got Jack. Jack makes us a little bit special, but yeah, you have. Right, there's nothing. I mean, who the hell are we? We've got shirts. Why anybody can get a shirt made? I got a nice shirt, the bill's shirt.
Starting point is 00:04:10 That is nice. So who are they? Like, why are we watching this? Who did the, because they told us the flame's, this but now they're this and they said about this and that's that's I don't think these guys know what the hell they're talking I don't know what they're no flyers coming to town 5-1 flatters just stomp the shit out of them
Starting point is 00:04:30 take the flyers bullshit five one jack here they win hockey games five one five one they dominated them that this that's a snot bubbling like that's just that's That's what they're doing. That's what they're doing in the competition right now. They were being bullies. They were being bullies. They were saying, you're not.
Starting point is 00:04:53 Running around. Listen, here. I get that it's New Year's Eve, but you're not going to enjoy the evening. Sorry. Yeah. This would be no fun for you. So what is the record since Domaloni talked?
Starting point is 00:05:05 Does anyone know off the top of their head? It's just astounding. Astounding? Yeah. I told you at the time. You guys way off. I said he's going to rally the troops. It's us versus the world again.
Starting point is 00:05:17 Good. job done yeah they've won five in a row at home five in a row 10 one and one in their last 12 at the dome they started the year one seven and one we made shirts oddly we never do anything but yeah we did the one time we got off our ass and got some stuff done is when they were once four 12 and two They were last in the West, December 2nd. Then Don Maloney gave you a couple of these. Right there. Boom.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Right there. You don't see what I see, Dean. I've been running teams since you were in diapers, big boy. Before Jack was dead. When Jack was still dead, I was running the coyotes. We were loving life in Glendale. Had a great lease. It was awesome.
Starting point is 00:06:20 Since December. December 2nd. So a month ago today? Last in the West. Well, I mean, it's, I guess it depends where you want to signal the turnaround. But as you have said, if you take the start, the atrocious start of one, seven, and one and say, let's just give you 500 there. That's three, three more wins, right? Probably four.
Starting point is 00:06:51 Four, twelve, and two. So that's what, 18 games? Four wins in 18. Shit. You've got some great pieces to trade, Craig. Go get it. What? Isn't that the other side of it?
Starting point is 00:07:14 Where it's like, yeah, these fellows are playing great. November 19th was the day. They were in Buffalo. They had lost 5-2 to Chicago the night before. They would then beat Buffalo that night by a score of 6 to 2. And then they would win again and then win again, then lose, then win again, get a point in an OT loss, which then brings us to December.
Starting point is 00:07:42 Loss win, win, win, loss, win, loss, win, loss, win, win, loss, win, win, win, loss, win, win, win. So what are they in December then? One, two, three, four, five. Nine and four. Solid hockey. That's over 500. Yep.
Starting point is 00:07:59 By a bit for sure. So come April, we're going to, be going back much like today and saying, if only you idiots hadn't started out one, six and one, we'd have home ice. That's right. We'll find a way to criticize. We'd have home ice in the playoffs in the first round.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Stupid asses. Just ask us by Christmas, we'll tell you. When the egg dog comes out, you'll get answers. That's when we get real smart is when the bamboo comes out. The eggnog and the lights are up. Now, does it make me a prick? No. I still feel the same about them now as I did then.
Starting point is 00:08:45 I've said the same thing for the last five. I don't want to do the same show. We do this show. They keep winning and we keep neglecting to give them credit or maybe say. That's not true. They get plenty of credit for winning. The difference is that you're going to win. You were terrible to start of the year.
Starting point is 00:09:00 It may cost you a playoff spot. But even if you get in the playoffs, I don't see you doing well against any of the elite team. you're getting older. Eventually this is going to and and and they haven't made the playoffs in three years. So
Starting point is 00:09:19 so you should be. Maybe the rebuild started then. Maybe they're already into the rebuild. We've just underestimated it. Remember we, because I'm putting the things and stuff together today, it's like, okay, we'll get the standings and this sort of thing. We'll get all that sort of done.
Starting point is 00:09:36 as I feel like we need to start showing the standings differently. Because remember, we would pop right in. Let's take a look at the bottom of the overall standings. And we can do that. And then you can look at the, you know, there's the playoff teams. But I feel like right now the most relevant one is the, well, here's the wild card. Oh, for sure. And here's where you might not even show the bottom of the NHL standings.
Starting point is 00:10:05 when a bank doesn't want us to. They don't want it. So this is the wild card picture. This is the West. Well, you guys said on Friday or on Wednesday or whenever the hell we did the last show that you guys, weren't you here? Yeah, but I did. Did we all predict they touch the playoffs? Yes, we did.
Starting point is 00:10:25 Okay. I'm trying to remember. Sorry. Well, you guys, well, I just like, you're very good at distancing yourself. I couldn't remember if I. In two weeks, you'll be, you got to get some. Scars in here, Conroy. It's like, but that is the debate.
Starting point is 00:10:42 If they'd have added scores last year, would they have made the playoffs? Jack, Jack's like, you know, you're right. Yeah, he's going to start. Well, you got all these draft picks. You don't need them all. They're not all going to make it. Well, are you going for the playoffs? Go get these guys some help.
Starting point is 00:10:55 If you do this and don't make the playoffs, then what good is it? What good have you done? What have you improved upon? Yeah, give these guys a shot. You improved upon. the fan experience on New Year's Eve. Yes, great job. Everybody had a party and had a good time.
Starting point is 00:11:13 Beating the Oilers at home just after Christmas, wicked. Yeah. Love it. If you don't make the playoff, all of this is bullshit. You're right about that. All of it is complete. But ass. Now they've played 40 games, Seattle 38.
Starting point is 00:11:29 There's all the, you know, all right, we get it. But they are a 500 hockey team. Any way you want to cut it right now. If you're 500, you can make the playoffs with half a season to go. 42 games left. The other thing that's happened, and I'll get to another point, which I think is important, which kind of builds our case, or at least supports our case a little bit. They've passed some teams here.
Starting point is 00:11:52 You always hear about that. Well, look how many teams they've got to pass. Well, they, St. Louis, Chicago, Nashville. Utah's are kind of right there. They won last night. The Kings are no screaming hell right now. So yeah, they're one point back. As we sit here today, they're a 500 team.
Starting point is 00:12:11 The Jets continue to tumble. We'll talk about them in a little bit. They're dead last in the overall standings. But the other part of it is too. And it doesn't change anything because if they make the playoffs, they'll make the playoffs as a Western conference team. Oh, yeah. They're not going to get in in the east.
Starting point is 00:12:29 They can't? There's no crossovers. No. Why? Not the CFL, buddy. That's stupid. So 40 points puts them one point out in the west. In the east, they'd be like five, six points back.
Starting point is 00:12:42 Because we showed that overall standings, the bottom. A lot of teams in the West right now are occupying the seller. So I'm just saying, you know, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Chicago, St. Louis, Nashville, Calgary, Columbus. West. That's West, West, West. West, West. So are you. So Columbus is last in the east?
Starting point is 00:13:06 Are you one of the best among the worst? Or you can only play the games. All right. Now you're getting two. I'm just trying to put my, I'm putting my hands up a little bit. You got to block, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:18 Keep your gloves up. Yeah, you're walking in, just swinging. Can't just take shot after shot. You got to play some sort of defense at some point. Christ. It was all offensive. Like, come on. Maloney's just peppering me over here.
Starting point is 00:13:29 You're just fucking pepper. In October, November, we were just tossing them. Fantasy hawk. That'd be nice. take that we had a bad start we're better than this out yeah but you're going to make the playoffs it means f all
Starting point is 00:13:46 duh but they have jumped a lot of teams and some of those teams I think are just terrible we need to do something it's like just after every time they win just have a thing where are we wrong
Starting point is 00:14:01 and then just kind of think and it's no no And are we going to stick to it? When do you kind of, you know, maybe? Because I do feel like it's a bit prickish. We're giving them credit, but it's like we're not buying it. Okay, so let's dig into it.
Starting point is 00:14:25 When would you buy it? I just don't know. That's the thing. I don't know that I would. So you get into the playoffs. No, okay. Go play Colorado in round one. Yes, but if, okay.
Starting point is 00:14:36 Jack, can you put up those standings again? Which ones do you want to see? The wild card standings? Because, and this is just a wonderful game of if fantasy, and we're so grateful that Pinders not here because it wouldn't have the right context. But if, okay, so that's the wild card. Do you even have just the Western conference?
Starting point is 00:15:01 What I'm getting at is, is a wild card spot worth it? because I think you get your ass kicked in the first round. But if you're good enough to be fighting for a home, what do you have to get to to have a home ice? Well, yeah. In a playoffs. 45, you've got to catch Vegas. That's probably not, right?
Starting point is 00:15:20 Like, is, is Edmonton going to roll? Is Vegas going to take first in the Pacific? Who's going to, because you got to look at. It's a battle. Let's just stop. It's a battle. Let's just stop. We got our boy.
Starting point is 00:15:43 Okay. Yeah, we got our boy. We'll go to the Crystal Waters plumbing and heating insider hotline. Crystal Waters, plumbing and heating. It's the name that you know and you trust and should pop. It's the first thing that pops into your head. Hot water tank, you need something going on with your mechanical room, your furnace.
Starting point is 00:15:59 You're not using your AC right now. No way. This summertime. Crystal Waters, your crystal clear choice for home comfort. Aaron Dregger joins us TSN Hockey Insider. Dregs, how we doing? Doing well. Happy New Year, fellas.
Starting point is 00:16:11 Happy New Year. we're in a fog over here. We're in the room. We're trying to figure it out. I feel like Don Maloney's giving us all the double fingers, middle fingers over here. He's like, oh, yeah, you print your Mission McKenna T-shirts. You talk about winning the draft lottery.
Starting point is 00:16:30 We're better than this. We'll get the 500 by Christmas and you just wait. 500 by Christmas. What the hell is this guy talking about it? Rocker. Well, here we are. Jam 2. They're a point back of a wild card.
Starting point is 00:16:45 They're a 500 hockey team. Michael Backland is playing the best hockey of his bloody life. They can't lose at home. They are, what are they, 10, 1 and 1 in their last 12 on home ice? Yeah. I don't know what the hell's going on, Triggs. We're trying to, I can't think, I refuse to think that we were wrong, but it's looking like maybe we were wrong.
Starting point is 00:17:07 Might not have been right either. Yeah, I'm just, I'm just talking wrong. Right. Yeah, just a little. a little bit off. That's okay. But it's still early. I mean, we're at the midpoint of this season. And, you know, the flames have been through the mud.
Starting point is 00:17:19 They went through it early. A lot of teams did. But because of the parody that is wild across the national hockey, you may go wire to wire, you know, as long as you manage your lows, you know, you should be okay. You can't have any wild eight, nine, ten game
Starting point is 00:17:35 losing skids or pointless streaks or any of that nonsense. And I think for the most part, Calgary has done a decent job of that. But I still think that you can you can still look at the Calgary Flames as a whole here and see the holes and see the areas that need to be improved on to have a better future, both short term and longer term. So even though, you know, it's fun for the fan base now because the Calgary Flames are in the playoff mix and, you know, they're definitely a competitive group. The messaging I keep getting is that, all right, yeah, that's,
Starting point is 00:18:11 That's where we're at. There's no for sale sign that's going to be put up anytime soon. But there are still pieces that require some attention. And if the right offers are made, and primarily I'm talking about Rasmus Anderson, I think that Craig Conroy has no choice but to make that deal. And maybe in the short term, they get a bit of a bump depending on what the return is, if it's a decent NHL player. And you get some futures that help you in the longer term and all of that.
Starting point is 00:18:40 So it's still open for business in terms of the approach, I think, of Calgary management. It's just that they've got more patience now because the fan base is happy. The owners are happy because the fans are happy. And it's a fun time of year and a fun place to be when you are in that playoff conversation. I mean, it was a party at the dome the other night. It's been great atmosphere the last. I was there a couple weeks ago. It was awesome.
Starting point is 00:19:09 I'm sure the Edmonton game. Yeah, the Eminson game was great. They won 5-1 on New Year's Eve. It's the mood on and off the ice is great. It's just not great. Apparently, in this room. Because here's what it is. You know, this guy sitting next to me right here.
Starting point is 00:19:27 Yeah. No, he's a realist. Just before you came on, I said, if this could, we're about two weeks away from him doing the, you're not going to use all these draft picks. You may as well try and get some scoring help. I mean, if scoring is, you should call. I'll try and get some help in here.
Starting point is 00:19:42 And you'll have, there's a case to be made for it. I made the idiot comments. I was arguing with your co-worker noodles last year, earlier in the year. And I'm like, well, if you're going for the playoffs, then go get a score. Yeah. And if you had, do you make the playoffs? Because the objective is to make the playoffs, right? And you tied in points.
Starting point is 00:20:01 And you tied in different. If you had five more goals from someone, are you in the playoffs? And what happens then? Right. And it's, it could be the same scenario. And I know what. My beliefs are long term on what the flame should be doing. But if they don't agree with me, then go for it.
Starting point is 00:20:18 Right. Don't come up to short. Don't walk the line here and go, are you going for the playoffs? Fine, go ahead. Then sell and get in and try to win. But if you're just going to, well, tippy toe around it, F that. I don't like that. So what if this scenario were to play out, Rhett?
Starting point is 00:20:35 You know, I mentioned Anderson. I mean, we've speculated on Erasmus Anderson for over a year now, right? And so what if you get a near-perfect package for him at this point? And that near-perfect package would have to include Anderson signing a contract extension, right? Otherwise, the team that acquires him isn't giving up a lesser quality defenseman, maybe a scoring forward if they've got that depth in their organization and a draft pick. And those are the three principal elements that normally go along with a package of this magnitude, especially, again, given that the expectation would be that you're able to, as the new team, extend Rasmus Anderson.
Starting point is 00:21:16 Would you be okay? Would the flames be okay if they got a little bit of offensive punch coming back as part of a deal? Maybe a five, six defenseman, and then not as good a draft pick. You know, you can't get everything. I mean, we're not talking about a future Bobby O'er here in Rasmus Anderson. but is that worth considering or are the needs moving forward more broad than that? And you need that highest level draft pick. And you need that top prospect more than you need the players, the pieces that might help you stay in the playoff,
Starting point is 00:21:56 makes you lock down a spot. If I'm training Anderson, it's for the future. Okay. Yeah. It's for the future. And if I'm not committed to. to re-biggle, then I'll keep him. I'll sign his ass.
Starting point is 00:22:12 But I think that's what has some fans concerned. If you're on the re-whatever you want to call it, if you're of that way of thinking, that if they continue to win and they're 500 and they're there, well, how can you trade this guy? How can you do that to the locker room? What kind of message does that send to the guys who have fought so hard to put themselves in a spot to be here to then pluck this guy out of the,
Starting point is 00:22:36 out of the dressing room. We do that. It seems like we do that game every year. Then stop messing around. Yeah. And, you know, we're into the new year here, right? The trade deadline is March 6th. So there's lots of time for a team to step up to make the decision an easy one for for Craig Conroy.
Starting point is 00:22:55 And look, if somebody's willing to overpay for Rasmus Anderson, fill your boots. But make Rasmus Anderson make an educated and sound. decision sooner rather than later. And what I mean by that is if you actually, look, I know he's a good dude. I haven't found anyone yet who thinks that. Agreed. He's played his ass off for the Calgary. He has.
Starting point is 00:23:18 He has. He's a leader in the organization. So, all right. Put something on the table. And I'm sure they've had the parameter conversations of what it would look like. And I'm sure initially, you know, the flames like, e-ish, I don't look like the look at that. Okay, well, put something completely.
Starting point is 00:23:36 competitive on the table where Anderson's got to make, he's got to make the call. I want to stay in Calgary because I believe in the organization. You know, maybe there's some selling on management's point to Rasmus that, okay, you're getting the contract you deserve. But on top of that, here's what we're going to do to try and make it better short term and then longer term. And that's where it gets a bit more complicated. But we're not talking about a year from now. We're talking about weeks. That's really the window that they're looking at now.
Starting point is 00:24:06 dealing with this. I'm not sure what they'll do. Yeah. Like I don't, that, that seems like a feasible approach. We've, we've kind of tiptoed and all we're not,
Starting point is 00:24:17 we don't talk once we get into the season. You know that's bullshit. Look, you've talked about wanting to stay. We're happy to keep you. We've been so far apart in numbers. Let's cut through the shit. The cap's going up.
Starting point is 00:24:29 We've got a cap space. Here's, there's tons of cap space and the caps going up and I get, Pinder is always yelling in our, you're saying, well, no one's going to be up against the cap because it's going up so fast. I don't understand it. It's like, well, then why don't you just pay that guy?
Starting point is 00:24:44 Yeah, well, just to quickly jump in here, where Pinder is wrong in that assessment, the cap can climb to 120 million. That doesn't mean that 30 teams are going anywhere near a $120 million salary cap. And Calgary might be in that group, right, where you just look, I mean, Colorado is the best team in the national hockey league by a long shot. And the avalanche owners, even though they're filthy rich, aren't going to be a group that says, okay, spend the 120. No, they're going to, our internal organizational salary cap is X. And that, you know, not to go down a CBA path here, but that does have some of the owners a little bit concerned because now you do differentiate between the haves and the have-nots.
Starting point is 00:25:30 There will be owners, maybe Calgary's in that group that say, no, you know what, we feel like we can put a, competitive team on the ice for 110 million. And that's all you're going to get. That's all you're going to get. It can climb to whatever it is. So the cap is, the cap is for teams that are in a position like Vegas,
Starting point is 00:25:51 like Dallas, who are going to swing for the fence every single year, every single year. And they have, and they have the pick of the litter because players want to go to those destinations on top of that, right? Isn't it kind of funny how it's coming back? because the cap is instituted so that everyone had to...
Starting point is 00:26:07 Yeah. The playing fields are all the same to a certain extent. Yeah. The Tronnos, the Rangers, they couldn't just go inside everybody. Yeah. Well, if they're the only ones, if the cap gets so high, the Buffalo Sabres can't compete in a... They're not going to...
Starting point is 00:26:22 Winnipeg, go down the list. A salary cap, the difference doesn't make. Yeah, no. It's fair. Let's pivot there. I wanted to ask you about Winnipeg. They had a 2-0, a 4-1, and a 5-4 lead. They chased Joseph Wall out of...
Starting point is 00:26:33 of the net in Toronto. Couldn't have started better. Right. And then lose again in regulation. It's eight straight, one win in their last 12. They are last in the standings today. We've talked about it for the better part of a week and a bit. I still look at this roster.
Starting point is 00:26:52 So you got a heart trophy guy in Shifley. He was Olympian. Carl Conner's on the Olympic team. And Josh Morrissey. One of the best leaders in Lowry. Yeah, they have a team you would think. Those are the foundational pieces you'd love to have. They can't get a win.
Starting point is 00:27:09 What's, I mean, I can imagine what the tone and tenor is, but what are your thoughts? Can they pull out of this? Well, okay, so it's easy to pick it a carcass. And right now, that's what the Winnipeg Jets are. And you look around the league, okay, they make a call on Nick Eilers. Now Nick Eilers was a pending on a restricted free agent,
Starting point is 00:27:28 and some will tell you he probably wanted to get out of Winnipeg. with all due respect to Winnipeg. You just wanted to change. You earn that right when you're an unrestricted free agent. So you lose a high level of speed with Nick Elyler's going to the Carolina Hurricanes. Mason Appleton, again, a very quick player. They bring in Jonathan Taves. What a great story.
Starting point is 00:27:51 Sold a ton of jerseys in Winnipeg. This guy's headed straight to the Hall of Fame. You know, good friends with the owner, Mark Chitman, Jonathan Taves. And I don't think that there was. were many who were very critical of that signing, right? I mean, how could you be? But they needed Jonathan Taves to step into that two-center hole and be a number two-center. And even though his game is trending upwards right now, he hasn't been able to sustain that
Starting point is 00:28:20 level of play as a two-see. He hasn't been. His face-offs are off the scale, man. Like this guy is the best draw taker there is in the national hockey league. but for me that's put too much emphasis on the lack of speed in that lineup and now you're looking at cole perfetti who's not a speedy player he's he's he's a gifted skilled offensive player he makes plays all of that he's not going to drive the line so they have too many complimentary guys up front especially and they look slow and they look old and on top of that you've got scott or neal who's desperate for wins just check out some of the minutes played by call Connor and Mark Sheifley game in and game out. There was a bit more balance against the Maple Leafs last night, but I looked at their event summary last week, I think it was.
Starting point is 00:29:09 And those two guys were like 26, 27 minutes each. And that's only because the coach is chasing. He's desperate. And he doesn't have anything other than those top line that he feels confident in leaning on. So it looks at the moment. That caused you to lose the bottom lines. Yeah. Yeah, I think it does.
Starting point is 00:29:29 100% think it you know i mentioned perfetti i mean there have been nights where he's playing 10 minutes or less and now a part of that is on him like you know he's been around the league long enough he's got to find a way but then i you know i and i signal him out because they made they made a decision to not aggressively try and extend nick eilers because they visualize cole perfetti as as filling his spot you know in the lineup on the power play all of those things so it's a tough fix in linopeg philers Well, it is because it looks to be an architectural issue, which means Kevin Chauvelte off is the guy that's going to have to find a way to fix it. And he, he's been pretty aggressive at or around the trade deadline,
Starting point is 00:30:12 but it's coming out of expense. And that expense is first round draft picks and things like that. He has assets. Brad Lambert's a nice player, Vili Hinola. Those are pieces he'd consider trading. But maybe they've got to dig a little bit deeper on the trade front. Well, and you feel like that's a team that's designed to be.
Starting point is 00:30:29 be a four line, not a... The way they play. Yeah, right? Roll them and go. Yeah. But they're, you know what? I mean, they just have them in good rate out of the gate. And then, you know, Hala Buck gets, well, you hurt himself in training camp and then played through it until he couldn't.
Starting point is 00:30:49 But this isn't a goaltending thing. Their goaltending is fine. It's just they're, they're just... But when do you decide you can't do? Like, when does several days? And do you? Like, I don't know if that's a... a message that could be
Starting point is 00:31:00 well, fans in Winnipeg or the ownership. They've been so good for so long. I brought it up jokingly with you to tell Zito, tank can get a topic. Well, they're not, I feel like Winnipeg's very similar where it's like,
Starting point is 00:31:13 but at some point, you're in last place halfway through the season. Yeah, that's the thing. Florida was kind of middle of the, they were within striking distance, the jet side. It was just,
Starting point is 00:31:23 I'm just being a smart ass, but like at some point, they have to look at this and go, okay, we have 40 games left. We're going to have to win 30 of them. Yeah. Is this realistic or we sell it?
Starting point is 00:31:36 Well, and that's where it gets real tricky here, fellows, because, you know, Winnipeg is that market. I remember having a conversation on the show, you know, before this is going back a bit here, but just taking us through the process of why they didn't go into full rebuild mold when they had Shifley up and they had Hala Buck up. And they just realized after a. pretty exhaustive research stretch of time where they talked to Detroit and they talked to teams
Starting point is 00:32:06 that had gone through a several year process. And Winnipeg ownership just flat out acknowledged that they couldn't do it. They couldn't survive that. The fan base there is an educated fan base. They're not paying top dollar to come and watch a team that can't win for the next five years. And so can you retool on the fly? And then what does that look like? You know, do you move out some of your veteran pieces?
Starting point is 00:32:30 We're not talking about top end guys here. But they've got enough, you know, kind of middle of the pack forwards, maybe a defenseman or two that you can push out and maybe try and get younger and do some sort of a rebuild on the fly. I don't know, but they're getting to that place. Did they have their first rounder this year? Because to me, it would be. They do.
Starting point is 00:32:55 Yeah, it wouldn't be. It wouldn't be long before I'm going, we're selling. No second, no fourth. I'm going to take the year because I actually, it's the same as the Florida. This isn't a last place team with the talent they have. But it might be a situation where, sadly, Arneill's going to get his ass canned because that's just what happens.
Starting point is 00:33:15 But they might be smarter to accept it. And like I said, try and get a top three pick. Any of those top three guys are going to be. game changes for you down the road. Now you have a compliment for the top end guys you already have and that's where your depth comes in. Plus, you probably can move, like you said, some of the guys that are good players and can go help another team and recuperate some more talent. Reset. And look, whether they're at that place or not, I mean, it's not a rebuild. No, it isn't. It's not a full tear down. I hear you. And most clubs are
Starting point is 00:33:52 going into their pro scouting meetings here in the next couple of weeks, right? And, And, you know, that's where you really start to dig down on, you know, somewhat of a guessing game, what other clubs are going to do, the players that could maybe likely are going to be available. What about our own guys? But you also then have to have the conversation about dangling the carrot, right? Sure. You can put domestic off on the trade block. Guys like that, you know, good players.
Starting point is 00:34:20 But are they moving the needle in terms of a bigger trade? Probably not. you know, you put a Logan Stanley out there as an example, and I'd just throw his name randomly out there. I mean, he could shoot high and say perfetti. He's in a contract here, right? So I doubt very much that those two young pieces could ever be in play. But if you're talking about what you're suggesting here, Red,
Starting point is 00:34:45 and that's getting into that conversation of a top pick this year. Yeah, top three pick. You're going to have to put out some valued pieces. right, not depth guys, like young players that are still trying to find their way that are attractive commodities out there, you know, maybe that conversation has to be had in Winnipeg because right now, man, and there is value when you look at this draft class, you can visualize some of the pieces in that top 10, expected to go in the top 10, that maybe two years from being borderline impactful NHL players, right?
Starting point is 00:35:24 And that has to be scintillating for a lot of teams that are kind of just hanging around. And Winnipeg isn't hanging around. They're beneath that line. Yeah, I don't know. At some point, if you're halfway through the season, you're just looking like, well, it helps when you're last. We're hypocritical too because we critique the flames heavily and they've climbed out of it or no. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:49 But you're, they started earlier and they've had a hell of a run. and they're still not in. And that's the problem. It's like, oh, great. Well, we want out of eight out of ten. Yeah. You're not in the playoffs. No.
Starting point is 00:36:02 You're not in the playoffs. Sorry. Well, I'll look at what, not to shift gears, but look what Buffalo had to do to get into the, the, the,
Starting point is 00:36:09 the playoffs equation. I mean, you know, it doesn't, I mean, is it possible Winnipeg can run off 10, 11 straight wins? I guess.
Starting point is 00:36:18 I mean, I haven't done a deep dive on what their, their schedule looks like. With that goalie, it's plausible. If the sabres can do it, anybody can do it. It's not a shot, but it's true, right? It's just the likelihood of it.
Starting point is 00:36:33 And what's the upside? And we talk about it here, okay, now you're going to slide into a wildcard spot and go into Colorado. Do you think that you're, and the other thing for the Jets, and I'll say this is, as good as they've been, they haven't had a ton of playoff success. They should have lost in the first round last year. Right. They've flipped one out at the end, which give them credit. I guess, but the score back all that late and move on and win it in overtime and games.
Starting point is 00:36:58 Holy, I think you're out played by the blues and got through that, which is fortunate. You have never cruised in the playoffs. It's always been a grind. It's the type of hockey you play. But that's why I'm sitting there talking to the owner. I'm going, dude, we're going for a top three pick. Either that speed, the defenseman, or mechanic. I don't care which one we get, but I want to be in that category.
Starting point is 00:37:23 And you know probably more about the rest of the, you said top 10, you can have hell of a player's. But I'd be selling and going after something. Because I don't think it's a lot like being here. As good as Ben and they're making playoffs, lots, there's not a ton of, when they go into a playoff round, are they getting picked all the time? I think if you've got Helibuck and you've got a lot of the high-end players that they have, and then you add one of these other guys, then you're a favorite in a playoff.
Starting point is 00:37:53 But until then, you're still a team that has to grind out wins. That's right. And you're last place. Last place. Speaking of Buffalo, I wonder somewhere. Kevin Adams had Christmas and New Year's. I was thinking, those sons of bitches, you know? Like, I was there.
Starting point is 00:38:11 I don't. Usually it's the coach. You get the coaching bump. Like, did they get the interim or the internal GM bump? Because it's 10 in a row. And a lot of times they couldn't get out of their own way. There's something that feels kind of special about that group. There's no new players.
Starting point is 00:38:28 It's the same guys that couldn't do it. And then all of a sudden there's some belief there. Well, and is it also guys actually taking ownership of their jobs and going, holy shit, Adams is gone, my buddy that hired me? The new guys, not breathing down my neck, but he's paying, I'm going to have to impress this guy to keep my job. I don't know. Right.
Starting point is 00:38:49 No, I think there's something to that. I've looked at Buffalo maybe differently than a lot of people. Like, you know, certainly this year because having Josh Norris healthy again is a huge boost. I mean, they're much better up the middle of the ice especially. And so when you look at their top three lines, I mean, they match up well against a lot of the better teams in the national hockey. The group of players in Buffalo, for me, is better than their previous records indicated. So I don't think anybody has an answer for, okay, well, why you? couldn't they pull it all together?
Starting point is 00:39:24 But maybe that's what it is. Maybe from a player perspective, they finally went, okay, you know, let's take ownership of this. It doesn't matter who the manager is. You know, yeah, Lendi, rough is our coach again. He's capable, but it's on us to do what we can do individually to make this thing work. But again, for me, getting Norris back healthy was a huge lift for them because it stabilizes how they want to play.
Starting point is 00:39:50 It has, for me, it has nothing to do with Kevin. Adams getting fired. And Kevin Adams, he's known for the last couple of years that he was working on Borrowed Time. And he needed last year for this 10 game run to happen, you know, to maybe get a clean slate. He overextended his time as general manager of the Buffalo Sabres. So I don't, I don't think that his firing is anything to do with this team. I think the, you know, we're so quick to individually criticize players when they're not doing things right? Well, you know what?
Starting point is 00:40:27 That group has taken hold now. So they deserve the credit. The players deserve the credit. Not Pagula for firing as general manager or anyone else, including Lindy Ruff. These guys have taken ownership. I can only imagine how often you've had to talk about in the last two days.
Starting point is 00:40:43 The team Canada roster and all the Americans are out. And it's less about who's on it. It's about who got snubs. It's all about snubs. And I know you've probably talk plenty about Sam Bennett, probably more specifically. And now it's, it looks like Cole Cawfield might be the guy.
Starting point is 00:40:57 There's a few guys on that American. Yeah. I mean, it speaks to the depth of the two countries. But I guess just your thoughts seeing Bennett off of the Canadian roster, especially after four nations and a con smith in the calendar year. So Tuesday night, I got to Minnesota on Tuesday. And I only went there for the team Canada unveiling on Wednesday. and had the luxury of watching Canada play Finland at the World Juniors.
Starting point is 00:41:27 But Tuesday night, I felt pretty strongly that I had the Canadian roster nailed. I did. And that included Matthew Schaefer not being in their top eight. You know, again, a lot of conversation about Connor Bedard and whether the injury hurt him. Well, it obviously didn't help him. But, you know, Badard in the mix, okay. But was he likely making it?
Starting point is 00:41:50 No, he wasn't. Bennett was on the team that if I had been asked to publicize Team Canada Tuesday night, Sam Bennett would have been on the team. And the decision for me was between is it either Bull Horvett or is it Nick Suzuki, the Montreal Canadiens? I did not see both Horvatt and Suzuki making it together. And then I learned, thankfully, Wednesday morning, that Sam Bennett wasn't going to be on the main roster. And both Horvett and Suzuki were making the team.
Starting point is 00:42:22 And so there were, for me, those were the two levels of surprise, to be fair. Now, I say that, and you have to acknowledge some of the good players that snubbed, strong word, but, you know, if you have a Tom Wilson, do you need Sam Bennett? I say yes, because I look at his two Stanley Cups, is Kahn-Smith, the leadership, you know, the fact that he drags you into the fight. And that doesn't mean Tom Wilson shouldn't be on the team. I just would have found a way to get Sam Bennett on the team. And it feels like even though Doug Armstrong says it's a one for one, it's a case by case,
Starting point is 00:43:01 somebody gets hurt. It depends on who that somebody is as to who they call as an injury replacement. How can Sam Bennett not be your first call with, you know, look, I mean, Mark Schifley, yeah. I mean, he was right there at the end. Badar down the list for me, but those are the conversations you have when injury crops. but I can tell you, management and coaches chewed on Sam Bennett right until they had to submit that final roster. But there's a lot of time between now and the drop of the puck in Italy, so we could see some injuries and maybe he makes it anyway. Horvath got hurt last night, like to your point.
Starting point is 00:43:40 Yeah, I don't think it's. It looked worse than what it is, I think. You know, we'll learn more in the next day or two, but they still have time for that. Is he having health season? Because I think out here, no, he's a good. player, but we're not of, yeah. Yeah. So this is, and I don't know what you guys feel about this. I'm old school and I have time for it.
Starting point is 00:44:01 Bo Horvatt had a hell of a men's world championship. Really, really good. And followed that upstart of the year with a real strong start with the New York Islanders. Then he got hurt. All right. So he comes back off an extended injury, picks up or he left off. So management felt strongly that Horvatt should be on.
Starting point is 00:44:22 on this team. And then conversely, you look at Nick Suzuki, having a great year as captain in the Montreal Canadiens. But because of timing issues, some personal stuff, he was just never available to Team Canada for the men's worlds when they would call. No, sorry, something come up. I can't go. Well, you, like, that's where the politics of this stuff, unless you're an elite level player comes into play. There are elite level players who have turned down their country more than once when it comes to playing at the world championships. And it's, you know, it doesn't make headlines. It's not that big of a deal.
Starting point is 00:44:58 If you're a young guy and you're still climbing that international ladder and you say no, that leaves a bit of an aroma for the team Canada management group. It happened to me. That's what happened to this guy. It did, didn't it? Not aroma. Real life. You were giving off an aroma.
Starting point is 00:45:18 I'm sorry, Lanny. I should have gone. I didn't know. You should have gone. Should have gone. You, Jeff O'Neill, I think O'Dog turned down Lanny. Might have been the same team. Well, I was about the 20th defenseman that was called.
Starting point is 00:45:35 Anyway. You know, look at it very quickly. Let's look at the American team real quickly, okay? There were two, again, two surprises, not to the magnitude of Bennett, but Adam Fox not being on that team surprised me. You know, and I think they look at it. And again, this is just a matchup game that you would play against Canada, against the more powerful teams.
Starting point is 00:46:00 Can you afford to have a smallish blue line? And I guess the answer to that would be, no, you can't, because Adam Fox isn't on that blue line. You know, you obviously have Quinn used and you have some other very talented players. But then you look up front. Cole Cawfield wasn't a surprise to me, because, you know, our sources had indicated all along, despite the fact that he's a shooter
Starting point is 00:46:22 and he's a proven goal score at the NHL level, they just worried about him getting pushed out of the way and pushed out of the play. Okay, so he'd been on the outside looking in pretty much the entire time. Jason Robertson, more of a surprise, because that man can score goals. The question the management would ask, though, if he's not scoring goals, then what is he doing?
Starting point is 00:46:43 Is he a liability? And I guess the answer would be yes. but if there's an injury up front for Team USA, I suspect that Robertson gets the nod ahead of Cole Coughfield, but Montreal Canadian fans don't like when I say things like that. That's right. They would hate that for sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:00 I mean, Robertson's got 48 points in 41. He's got 24 goals. Again, it's, like you say, it's not a snub. It's just how deep these teams are. Yeah. I always kind of look when I see J.T. Miller's name. It's a lot of baggage and emotions that come with that guy. I wonder if I would just steer clear all together of having that guy around.
Starting point is 00:47:21 Now, maybe he's the guy that, like you say, like a Bennett that draws you in and he's the dog that fights his way through. But it's never quite sure. Well, they better be able to score, right? And they should be able to. And you look at Austin Matthews and Kyle Connor, the Kachukh boys and all of that. But if you don't, and you'd say the same thing in Canada, guess what guys are got, you know, we're going after them for that, right? I mean, you left some premium offense at home because you felt it was more important to have Brock Nelson there to fend, kill penalties, all of that, and J.T. Miller. Not an ad scratcher, but Chris Kreider is another one, I guess, that, you know, mildly is a snub, but it's tough.
Starting point is 00:48:04 You can't take 35 players. You can't, you know, and that's the challenge he's been faced. So is it fair to say you kind of have to put your, like your working pants, on right now. No more trips to Lake of the Prairies and just kind of hang it because we got World Juniors and that's done and you talk about the trade deadlines coming and then playoffs
Starting point is 00:48:24 and things are tight and all that. I feel like it's almost kind of time to buckle down here, Drake's. Well, you can feel that way. And I guess I do to degree but I do look forward to the February 4th Olympic roster freeze.
Starting point is 00:48:41 Oh, there it is. Because then that does allow me to get back to the cabbage Lake of the Prairies. Probably around 13th of February or so. Not that I'm being specific. How could you? Yeah, I probably say around the 21st. I feel like I should be back, you know,
Starting point is 00:48:58 at least in a position where if something crazy happened around the gold medal game before I was played, that I should be available. But no. No. So I've got a good month in me, Boomer. And then after that, I'm ice fishing. It's so good.
Starting point is 00:49:14 Gregs, happy new year, pal. Happy New Year, fellas. There you go. TSN Hockey Insider, Darren Dregor, our insider here on the Crystal Waters, plumbing and heating, insider hotline, crystal waters, your crystal clear choice for home comfort. Mention Barnburn, you know, call just out of a fire up. Barnburner.
Starting point is 00:49:32 It's a bard burner. You guys talking about you on Barnburner all the time. Might get a little extra love in there for you. It just might help you cause a little bit, just saying. Yeah, that mean a lot there. Flame, Anderson, the Jets. It's the same situation kind of for a lot of teams where if you look at the standings, it was the same as what we said about the flames.
Starting point is 00:49:57 Like sell, sell so you finish. Get the top guys. I think Winnipeg's in the same boat. I joked about it with Florida, but I don't think. If you're only worried about this year, then no. But I think if you're looking long term out there, if I'm the chess, I'm like, sorry, fans. This is not our year. It's been the shits.
Starting point is 00:50:20 And Arneal's going to get, you're fired. We're going to have to bring in a new coach. And we're going to get one of these top three, top five picks. And insert one of those guys into that lineup. Like you've got it on your screen. Yeah, like I'm just kind of looking at. That makes a big difference. To, again, I didn't spend a whole lot of time focusing on the Winnipeg Jets and what they're doing.
Starting point is 00:50:42 But just looking at this team. And again, I don't know what their injury situation is. I mean, really nothing up front. If they came into the year with Jonathan Taves, their second line center, then that's on management, not the coach. Oh, for sure. Because Taves is like, it would be a nice story. I'm not blaming the coach.
Starting point is 00:51:06 The coach is a fall guy for what's happening. But just to kind of look at, because Adam Lowry, third line center. Beautiful. Vladislav Nemestikoff. I mean, depth guy. He's not a second. I don't know anything about it. That's, it's not TAVE's fault.
Starting point is 00:51:20 That's just, they could not have really expected that Taves was going to miss two seasons due to health and that and come back and be a second line guy. Yeah, they did expect. Yeah, they did. Yeah. Well, yeah, that's, I mean, that's not the, it's not the only reason they have one win in their last, whatever it is. It's 12th. It's deeper than that.
Starting point is 00:51:45 You're not putting eight in a row or whatever. Like Drake said, that's an old team. Tanner Pearson is still playing. playing hockey. That's the point I'm getting at is that they've had to, they've had to give up assets to build this squad out. And I think he's done a really good job. And they've been competitive for a while.
Starting point is 00:52:07 I think you bite the bullet on this one. Niederrider Ryder is 33. Gus Nyquist, UFA at the season's end. I mean, he's, he's 36. Nemesnikov is 33. Taves is 37. Tanner Pearson is only 33 somehow. Then on the back end, yeah,
Starting point is 00:52:25 only 33 is not only. They're rolling out Colin Miller, 33, Luke Chen's 36, DeMello's 32. Their back end's a disaster. You had a kid like that Verhoff there. Yeah, like Morrissey and Piach are 30. Yes. I hope they'd turn it around.
Starting point is 00:52:45 Or get the, yeah. I don't get my shit if they turn around. I'm not too invested in anything, Manitoban. I just don't understand why you'd want to, it's the same approach I have with the flames, my thoughts. It's like, your last halfway through the year, bite the bullet, bite the bullet. How many miracles can we hope for the flames have had a miracle?
Starting point is 00:53:10 The sabers have some, you know what I'm? Miracles are a strong word. How many of these teams are going to go from last to the playoffs and go on a run? Like, what are we talking about? How much stock do you put into it? And I bring it up only because we've heard Dregor talk about it. it, just the real concern about tickets and the gate. That if you, the last 15 home games.
Starting point is 00:53:33 But it's a charity case at Winnipeg anyway. Maybe I'm being cheeky and ignorant and I'm a bit of a D for saying. That owner has that team in Winnipeg and is just putting the bill. It's kind of like, it's not his business to survive on the Winnipeg Jets ticket sales. I get what you're saying. And I think the tickets will fall back. But I'll tell you what, if they win a top three pick, is that going to, are you going to be worse off next year?
Starting point is 00:54:03 Or are the fans going to go, actually, this may be turned out all right. Yeah. You have to be realistic about it as a fan as well. Are you telling me that if the flames, they've battled, they missed the playoffs again this year and next year that no one's going to the new ring? Yeah, no, I know. They're going to go. They're going to go.
Starting point is 00:54:19 The Jets, Buffalo's a struggle because there's no. You know, it's a strong economy, and it's a huge rink and it's a tough market, as much as they love hockey. Winnipeg, there's only 16,000 seats. And if you're not, are you going to go to all 41 because you're in first? No. People are still going to go watch hockey in Winnipeg. Your corporate dollars is never going to be there to make you enough money, and the ticket sales aren't going to be. the difference. That's a small market team with an owner that cares about the community and is giving
Starting point is 00:55:01 back. That's easy for me to say, lose a couple million. But they are. Yeah, so the only reason I bring it up is because even at the best it's like, oh, Winnipeg, having some, I guess this may be what you do. But if there would be one concern where a team would come out and say, well, we got to watch our watch our gates and our bottom line, that would be maybe the one market, because it is the smallest, with the smallest rink. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:55:27 which I understand that. I just think that it's a charitable case as far as the ownership group and giving back to community, and I think they can afford it. And you have to be realistic. The fans, like you said, no. So you're going to tell me that instead of going,
Starting point is 00:55:43 you know what, this is not our year. Let's sell, recoup some get younger. Get a top end pick and go from there. Or are you going to do, it's the same thing here. No, we're going to hang on to everyone and we're going to go for it regardless. That's fantasy. Like, it is, it's very similar. And at some point, you have to go, what are we?
Starting point is 00:56:09 Are we better off long term two years from now having, because I don't think they make the playoffs just status quo. If Taves can't play second line. And you're playing shyfully in those guys, 28 minutes. That is a, what do we do? Well, A, it's not working now. Yes. Even if it were, it's not sustainable. So, yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:33 I think you have to bite the bullet. Temple Golden Logger, a non-alcoholic beer that actually tastes like a beer. With Temple Golden Logger, you get that refreshing beer taste that you're looking for. Maybe you're abstaining. Maybe you just want to paste yourself or maybe just tastes a damn good. Their golden logger will be an everyday favorite, only. 65 calories per can consume without compromise. You can get your Calgary co-op and get an Amazon Prime.
Starting point is 00:56:58 You go, if you look around, you're going to find it everywhere. It's Drink Temple. See there? T-E-M-P-L. DrinkTemple.com is the website to find where you can buy them and find out more. I am seeing them around. I was watching a, I was doing the old death scroll. Is that what they call that?
Starting point is 00:57:15 Doom. I was like, there's a podcast. Those guys, they're having some temples on there. I'm all about that. I don't mind that. So they need to drink in Winnipeg instead of making a drunk decision. No, that's what Jack was having on New Year's Eve. Just some very responsible.
Starting point is 00:57:32 You stayed in. That's Jack. I wanted to celebrate and lift a celebratory, you know, mug. Had himself a temple. Very smart, very nice. Very good of you. Way to go, Jack. That boy, Jack.
Starting point is 00:57:44 Thanks, guys. Yeah. Deliciousious. Great discipline. Drink temple. com is the website. Are we, what are we thinking? Speaking of maybe we could be having some Sunday night.
Starting point is 00:57:56 Are, who's on, who's in? Because we had talked about this Matt Mahausive game. Right. For our buddy Jack. And we all like football anyway. Damn right. We do, Dean. Last game of the regular season.
Starting point is 00:58:08 Final game. We're going to get together. I am down. All right. I talk to Ryan. He's questionable. He's got kid sports. It's better if he's not there.
Starting point is 00:58:19 Just no, Ryan. Red, are you in? What? Sunday night, 615. Are we going for wings? Well, I think we'd come in here. We've got all the gear. We'll have some temples.
Starting point is 00:58:30 We'll bring some food in. Get our Bet365 app going. Don't we all live down. We do, yeah. It's a lot of work to like log all that gear in it. Oh, you're saying to actually have a. We're doing a show. Not just get together.
Starting point is 00:58:45 Oh, I thought it was just some buddies getting together. Well, it is. But we're going to stream it. Some good pals. Yeah. I want to watch. I want to watch. Chomsky's.
Starting point is 00:58:52 The one thing I've never done, we've had the jackometer, and we hear on the show, his highs and lows. I kind of want to see it in real time. And I think the people want to see it in real time as well. Fire Tomlin, extend Tomlin. He's great. He's the worst. I'm down.
Starting point is 00:59:07 I think it'll be exciting. All right. Well, but I don't want to sit here by myself. I'll be there with you. Okay. I hope it'll be exciting. I'm worried that it's going to be. Like Lamar says,
Starting point is 00:59:20 I'm playing. Good. We know that the king can still run the football. Yes, especially in December. The Steelers kept Rogers upright against the Browns. Miles Garrett is not getting this sack record against us, which is great. They were so focused on that, though, they scored no points. This is a win and you're in.
Starting point is 00:59:42 And it's loser goes home, right? Yep, this is for the division. When you're in, host a playoff game, lose your season's over. Sunday night, you want to double screen it or do whatever. I think I can make it work. We're going to come in and we all what it is? We're going to be there for Jack, either to celebrate with him or to console him if things don't go well.
Starting point is 01:00:03 Kick him down the stairs. Really laugh at him. Just see how ridiculous and nonsensical his Steelers love is. Oh, boy. Yeah. No, I'm excited. Let's do it. That'll be Sunday night. We'll do the stream on YouTube.
Starting point is 01:00:18 Do the flames play? No, they play Saturday. Against Nashville. Smashville. Yeah. Neck and neck still in the standings. It's just not for last. That's right.
Starting point is 01:00:30 Tough for our roll tied, Jack, eh? Tough one, yeah. Can't give up that pass. 40-yarder. Come on. Us being lifelong Bama fans. This is losing. We're not accustomed to this.
Starting point is 01:00:48 38 to 3. India. What? Yes. Goodness. We need Saban back. That's who it was, right? I got Bayloria mixed up last.
Starting point is 01:01:00 We need him back. Georgia, yeah. How about Ole Miss? Yeah, how about Ole Miss? No Lane Kiffin. No problem. See, yeah. Do you see the bonuses he's still getting, though?
Starting point is 01:01:11 Oh, yeah. Elaine Kiffin, coach of All Miss leaves. But your boys go on and do well. I want to see you do well. Oh yeah, that's like because he's getting bonuses out the yinger. 500K? 500K yesterday with the win. Nice.
Starting point is 01:01:27 Bonus. Not even there. Not even there. It's decent work. He was watching. Yep. Just sitting at all and watch. Let's, uh,
Starting point is 01:01:37 Ryan Pinda. Ryan Pindo. It's time for the Peta report. Brought you by Village Honda. Today's the last day. It's the last day for it. You want to spin the wheel and win? You want to?
Starting point is 01:01:51 Hey? It's the spin and win event. Today is the final day. Every spin is a winner. You could even earn a CRV bonus of up to $10,000 and all in stock, 2026 CRVs. That and all, a whole bunch more. The end of the year pre-owned clearout is on. They moved, you know, it's the, they flip the page.
Starting point is 01:02:12 It's like 2025. Bigger, better things. We're cruising here at Village Honda. Flames Nation. They're writing, they're reporting, they're keeping you up to speed with what's going on.
Starting point is 01:02:25 It's not just the flames, it's also Calgary Ranglers delivered the first overtime loss of the season to the Colorado Eagles last night. Dryden Hunt, O.T. 3-2 win. And of course,
Starting point is 01:02:40 Rasmus Anderson, named to Sweden's 2026 Olympic men's hockey roster. So back with all those, great play, couldn't. Couldn't get there? We'll look at the rosters in a little bit, but great news for Rasmus. A year that could be, like, could have gone right down the old has not.
Starting point is 01:03:00 No. It has been a tremendous year for Rasmus. He was on the ice the other night as the flames cruised to a 5-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers, a night where there was fireworks and celebration and the flames getting to the 500 mark, 18, 18, and 4. Third straight win, fifth in a row on home ice. They wrap the month of December going 9 and 4. 1 5 to 6.
Starting point is 01:03:28 Zeri, starting to find the net, feeling it. Goal and an assist. Wolf 26 saves. Anderson's got eight goals. His career high is 11. Really? Yeah. Power play going two for three.
Starting point is 01:03:45 Just the fourth time all year the power play has scored more than once. So, so, sell. What? They're feeling it. They are feeling it. We've talked about the turnaround. They're one point back of a wildcard spot as you see. And they are now kind of, it's rearview mirror stuff.
Starting point is 01:04:00 Can't catch it. A couple games, I guess. Onward and upward in the 2026. What's on the way? Well, it's Nashville on Saturday. As Jack mentioned, you said, Smashville. That's a 5 o'clock start. Seattle on Monday to wrap the home, the home stand,
Starting point is 01:04:20 is five games, and then it's a five-game road trip. Montreal, Boston, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Chicago. I feel bad for all those teams. Have this juggernaut flames team come in, just crush all their hopes and dreams, send all the fans home. Yeah, it's going to be tough for them. That's what the flames do.
Starting point is 01:04:44 They just showed Boston who's boss. Yeah. Montreal, there, I mean, no, Hudson's not going to the Olympics, Coffield's not going to the Olympics. Montembow's not going to the Olympics. Hopefully play Montembow, we won't have a chance. There were some games last night.
Starting point is 01:05:02 The Ottawa Senators trailed two nothing in the first, but came back to win four three. Zetterland, Fabian Zetterland, had the game winning goal. Tim Stutzler, 18 points in an 11-game point streak. It's not too shabby.
Starting point is 01:05:17 No, he's feeling good. Lopsided win for Utah. Dylan Gunther, his first NHL hat trick, also added a assist and Matthew Schaefer that just keeps going youngest D-man to reach 10 goals doing it quicker than the previous youngster Phil Housley mentioned Bo Horvatt injured left the game in the third period but sounds like it won't be they're not too fearful he's going to see the doctor or something and see how it goes I hope he's okay we'll now show you a little bit of what happened so mentioned it the Leafs hosting
Starting point is 01:05:53 Winnipeg. Jets can't win. Leaves are, you know, they're coming around a little bit. The Jets led to nothing. And then four to one. And then five, four. Then we get to overtime. We get to, well, you think maybe it's going to get to overtime. It's not ideal. I'll tell you how this kind of shaped up for me. It's like, oh, so they lost this. So when I, the first thing, as I saw the score sheet and it's Matthew's unassisted. It's like, so this has got to be a shitburger then, right? This has got to be some kind of a...
Starting point is 01:06:31 He picked it up off a rebound in his own end. It went to end to end. So Comrie goes to play it and you kind of look at it. Well, what's the D-Man? Who do you blame here? And then the replay does kind of, well, you missed it on the first sweep.
Starting point is 01:06:46 And then you pulled it back to cover it and you put it right on. So that's on Conry. That's 100%. Yeah. Everyone else in the building seems to be kind of goalies. Free of blame. Eric.
Starting point is 01:06:59 Buddy. Four minutes. Oh, I got. Oh, son of a gun. 4-1. Worst lead. So for Austin, that was his hat trick. And I heard he got a hat trick.
Starting point is 01:07:12 I'm like, oh, he must have put on his show. Yeah. The three goals, one assist. It's his 14th hat trick passing Pat LaFontaine, your former teammate. Yep. For most by an American-born player ever. Havs beat the Canes 7 to 5.
Starting point is 01:07:30 This one was all over. Cains 3 to 2. Montreal led 5-4. They hang on for a 7-5 win. Brandon Bussie, 6 on 21, Dobish 5 and 25. Good night to be a score. Sebastian.
Starting point is 01:07:41 Oh, two goals, three helpers. Svetnikov and Eilers, three-point nights. Seven different scorers for Montreal. Get this. First win for Montreal. all in Carolina since 2016. Both in the Eastern Cup.
Starting point is 01:07:57 Last win there was in, oh, they were, yeah, 010 and 2 in their previous 12 games there. That's a nice little thing. Gives caught feel good. Habs 5'0 and 2 in their last seven. Cains have just two wins in their last seven. Pittsburgh, Jackie, boy. They had a lead in the third and then De Brinkett ties it.
Starting point is 01:08:16 Uh-oh, under three left. They go to overtime. Chris LaTang. I'm so torn, boy. much like with the flames. You're also conflicted. I'm so conflicted. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:27 Well, they went and made their trade. They brought in Chinikov. Chinikov. Yeah. Look at them. They're right on the outside. You're right there. One point back.
Starting point is 01:08:34 What do you do? What do you do? Six games over 500. Two more goals for Sid. He's up to 23 now. Just without Malkin too, right? No Malkin. Yep.
Starting point is 01:08:48 The Lightning beat the Kings five to three. The Kings had to leave. here in the third, three to two, and they watched it. It pissed that away. Really? Darcy Kemper, his first start since that upper body injury where he got concussed. Kings have lost four or five. That's worth mentioning just because they're one of those teams in that mix where the flames are.
Starting point is 01:09:09 Lost four or five. There's a lot of teams in that mix. Blackhawks, four three win over the stars. Robertson did not get named Team USA. He had a goal and an assist. Chicago has beaten Dallas twice in less. than a week. The stars in a bit of a slide here, 02 and 2 in their last four.
Starting point is 01:09:26 And the Cracken beat the Predators by a score of 4 to 1. Cracken were supposed to be the worst. I thought we had decided that. Cracken have a six game point streak. So they're not listening to us. 5'11. They're in a playoff spot. They also are showing that these guys don't know. They're on
Starting point is 01:09:44 YouTube. Why do people put so much stock into what they say? There's a lot of goals there, hey? This is not late 90s, mid-90s. two one, one, one nothing. Yeah, 12, 11, 9. Awesome. That's our league.
Starting point is 01:10:00 Defense. Overrated. I'll tell you, there is a lot of, I was good. Cake testing? A lot of backhand sauces to the middle. Oh, yeah. And sometimes it works.
Starting point is 01:10:14 It worked for Crosby and Latang for the OT winner. It's like, oh, three on three. I just, wheehoo, wehoo. okay all right I love offense so I'm good with it four games today
Starting point is 01:10:29 there's some afternoon matinees Jack asked if it's a is it American holiday what's going on down there are we not working today look at this we got a one o'clock game we got six
Starting point is 01:10:37 we got all this going on with the age it is the what do they call winter classic winter classic yeah it's the winter classic
Starting point is 01:10:48 in Florida as the Panthers the Rangers. It's inside the ballpark. It's the Lone Depot Park. It's home of the Marlins, retractable roof. It's going to be open. See, the thing with Miami is
Starting point is 01:11:04 that's a very warm weather. Yeah, it's hot location. So this is kind of a, it's odd to see the ice sports being played outdoors. It's interesting to see how it plays out. Yeah. Well, you'll be able to check it out later
Starting point is 01:11:20 today. We're going to go watch this too and have. No, I don't think so. Do you guys like the outdoor game still or is it just whatever? Don't pay any attention. Haven't watched one. Don't see it. Don't care.
Starting point is 01:11:31 Yeah. I always try and pump the brakes on it because it's not your town. It's not in our town. They do it very well. It's, and I find it's a bit of a tough watch on TV because of where the cameras have to be located. And then you've got the boards.
Starting point is 01:11:49 It's just. but it is what it is. It's for people in Miami. All the fans down there to go and watch indoors, the outdoor game. NHL had their stars of the month. Imagine your Macklin Celebrini. You have 25 points in 14 games. Decent.
Starting point is 01:12:11 A third star. Oh, because I thought 25 is pretty good. Nate McKinnon had 26 points. in 14 games for the second star and Connor McDavid, 34 points in 15 games. Oh, hey, Connor! So much talent and scoring out there.
Starting point is 01:12:36 Exciting, high-octane offenses. Four points. I guess 5-1 here. What are you talking about? World Juniors, Canada defeated Finland 7 to 4. Going back to Wednesday, Zane Perrek, a goal, two assists. Tied for the tournament lead in points. he's been in many ways kind of the one of the
Starting point is 01:12:54 focuses of team Canada just his level of play confidence the plays he's making hit tija gindler with a tremendous stretch pass leading to a goal next up Slovakia quarterfinals today
Starting point is 01:13:10 what time yeah there we go there you see it central game day are we central no Warm out. The other matchups will see the U.S. take on Finland.
Starting point is 01:13:25 Sweden takes on Latvia and Czechia will face Switzerland. We're into it now. Now they matter. Yeah, we're into it now. The preliminary round is, well, it's, you know, you want to win. Brett. So if they win there. You want to win.
Starting point is 01:13:42 Then you go to the semifinals. But if they lose. Yep. That's how it works. the the Olympics are coming up which is kind of like this but different it's for national pride we talked about the Canada roster
Starting point is 01:13:57 the other day I don't know why Canada felt the need to get in front of it because a lot of the everybody else is kind of today because we're Canada we're Erica it does have a bit of what we're going to do ours a couple days early guys yeah you all do your routine
Starting point is 01:14:13 announcements you do what you need to do but we're Canada we'll take the oh are you hosting no No, no, but we're just, we're a pretty big deal. I don't know if you've heard. Jack, let's roll through it. There's Team Sweden.
Starting point is 01:14:26 Top of the list there for the, and I'm guessing it's, it's alphabetical, but I think it's also in list of importance. Rasmus Anderson. On the D for Team Sweden. It's a good squad. Leo Carlson, young guy, deservingly there, Philip Forsberg.
Starting point is 01:14:44 He's, he is a stud. our old friend Elias Lindholm, Gabe Landiscaug, wondered maybe if a year ago, if he felt like he was going to be there. Jacob Markstrom, among the goaltenders in net, Yesper Walsdettsdett and Philip Gustafson. Right? They play in the same NHL and they're good play same team here.
Starting point is 01:15:08 Chemistry. So that is team Sweden. No Michael Backland, despite his strong play. Team Finland, Oka Pekalukinen, Kevin Lankan, who again, I guess, he was finished. I didn't really, you know, sure. Okay. You can want to see the passport still, but let's take a look at it.
Starting point is 01:15:31 Sebastian Hawtho, Arturolla, Lacka. Nobody pops off that. Miko Ranton's having a nice year. But the thing about that team, Retro, is they're all from Finland. So they'll have that going for them. Countrymen. Which, of course, Canada. but who's who which jerseys are you fond of just perritte do you like the the yellow and blue the
Starting point is 01:15:58 the the the trachroner you like the u.s red white and blue i kind of like the u.s yeah the u.s always a good look what's that joe i like the yeah the u.s oh yeah yeah yeah yeah it's weird and there is the american entry so youngsters on the blue line jake sanderson brock favor not to say they don't deserve to be there but adam fox not there. He hasn't played well, though. Hasn't played well. He got hurt. But it's...
Starting point is 01:16:31 It is surprising. He's a Norris. I look at those guys and I go, oh, yeah, well, there. Seth Jones definitely has had a resurgence. Noah Hannafin, Quinn Hughes, Jacob Slavin. The net minors, Hellebuck, Ottinger, and Swamen.
Starting point is 01:16:47 It's long felt like that's where they have a real edge, certainly over Canada. We'll see how it works out. And then up front, we've kind of talked about it with with drags there. But not a whole lot to, uh, to harp on trocheck, Trocheck, Brock Nelson, you know, Trochick Miller Nelson to me would be, I'm like, okay. Yeah. Understand the reasoning behind it, but also.
Starting point is 01:17:15 Yeah, I would think probably Jason Robertson, he's sitting there thinking, I could probably have slid in for one of those guys, right? Probably one of those guys. No. Okay. Fair enough. So that's the Olympics. And God, we're excited about it.
Starting point is 01:17:28 It's been a long time since we've had, as they say, best on best at the Olympic Winter Games. What's the time change to Milan, Dean, do you know? It's a lot. Yeah. It's a few hours. Worried that. Well, we're going to cover the games.
Starting point is 01:17:48 That's right. So we'll be fine. No worries there. It's 7.34 p.m. there. right now. Also, we'll be able to watch. Eight hours ahead. We can stream those.
Starting point is 01:17:58 Just bring in some wheel to this show and then. And we just watch the game. When we're doing the games, we're on the road for the games. On the road again. The same way to go on the road again. NFL, two games on the Saturday sked. Both playoff implications. We're into it.
Starting point is 01:18:18 Tampa Bay has lost seven of eight. They've got a chance to win the NFC South against Carolina. Carolina, though, has been the better of the two for sure. But if Tampa Bay can beat the Panthers, they then need some help as well. The Saints would need to beat the Falcons to avoid a three-way tie. But this would just probably be a lot easier if the Panthers wanted to win it. They're getting three points on the road against Baker and the Bucks. And the night game Saturday, San Fran, Seattle, winner take all match,
Starting point is 01:18:50 NFC West and the top seat in the conference. Seahawks are 13 and 3. They've won 6 in a row. Niners, 12 and 4, they've won 6 in a row. You want to just skip that whole wild card? You want to have home field throughout the NFC championship? Just win this game. Win the game.
Starting point is 01:19:07 Who do you like? The loser, got to hit the road to play some wild card. I'll tell you, I don't know. Brock Purdy has been real good. I might take the Niners. Niners at home. Yeah. Might take the Niners getting points here.
Starting point is 01:19:25 At home. Either way. A couple games on a Saturday, both of them with some teeth to them. Thank you. Oh, yeah. Appreciate that. And then Sunday night. Pittsburgh hosting Baltimore.
Starting point is 01:19:46 Win or go home, the AFC North title, the nine and seven Steelers, the eight and eight Ravens, thought the Ravens were left for dead. Well, they start one in five. No Lamar Jackson. They're cooked. But they put up their dukes and they started fighting. And look at them now. Going into Pittsburgh, face the curtain.
Starting point is 01:20:09 I mean, the Steelers could have just won last week and this game would be nothing. We could arrest our starters. Then we're not doing a stream Sunday. We're not getting together for wings and food and stuff. We're not having a great time. This is what everyone wanted. This is what we all wanted. Thank you, Mike.
Starting point is 01:20:21 Thanks, Mike. Awesome. Oh, boy. I'm already stressed out. Get this off my screen. But Lamar is going to play, so that's good for the Steelers. That is good. And it looks like T.J. Watt is going to play.
Starting point is 01:20:39 Oh, yeah. What I'm seeing. Oh, baby. Could he score points? Can he's playing an offense? Isn't that what you told me today? Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 01:20:46 Feel better about it now? A little bit, a little bit better. Darnow Washington, our big tight end. He broke his arm, done for the year. Yeah. It's all right. You still got the Muth. The Muth.
Starting point is 01:20:57 Yeah, he's going to have to stop. The Muth made some big plays there last week. He did at the end of the game when they decided to give him the ball. He can make some plays. Then they didn't. Did they get points on that or no? No, that was the last drive where they just decided to throw MBS fades continuously for some reason. In hindsight, like two things.
Starting point is 01:21:13 Don't go to Mvys. Yeah. And maybe go back to Friermuth. Just made a couple of impressive grabs. Anyway, that's the sked. Bears. Poor lions. There's a lot of guys not playing this week.
Starting point is 01:21:29 There's some guy I don't, I've never heard of starting a quarterback for the Packers. I don't know who that guy is. A lot of resting. Yeah, I think there's some. Is Josh going to play? No. No, I don't think the bills can really move. The Broncos win.
Starting point is 01:21:42 They'll get first. Yeah, the Jaguars still have a shot depending on what the Broncos do. And the Patriots. So anyway, it's all over now, boys. It's all over now. Regular season.
Starting point is 01:21:57 Not quite. And meanwhile, I don't know if I don't know what you're doing tomorrow. Tomorrow's Saturday, right? Yeah, I'm going to watch football. Okay, because, well, the bills are throwing out the $20 an hour if you come shovel snow. Is it again?
Starting point is 01:22:11 Is it? Yeah. Highmark Stadium is under, they had a foot and a half, 10, 10, I guess not quite a foot and a half, 10 and a half, 12 inches of snow. You show up with your shovel and start shoveling out the stands in Buffalo, 20 bucks an hour until all the snow has been cleared. and they will have refreshments, warm refreshments and stuff for you.
Starting point is 01:22:33 Whiskey. That's good money. Now, are they monitoring how hard you're working, how hard you're shoveling? I don't know. Be like, hey, let's go. Get to work here. How many colleges have you moved?
Starting point is 01:22:47 Let's go. And yeah, tough for all us, Bama, all us roll tiders. Four teams remain for the college football, national championship. Number 10, Miami, upsetting, upsetting,
Starting point is 01:23:01 sorry, the two Cs, Ohio State. Tough go for Ohio State. Feel bad for them. The six-seated
Starting point is 01:23:10 Ole Miss, big win over Georgia, your Georgia bulldog. Indiana, crushing Alabama, Oregon, shut out, four-seated Texas
Starting point is 01:23:17 Tech on New Year's Day, two days ago, whatever it was. So there you go. It's set up for the national championship.
Starting point is 01:23:24 I like that do this now. Yeah, I mean, somebody's going to feel like they're getting the shaft,
Starting point is 01:23:31 right? It's like, well, we won a lot of games to not be included and all that, but still you get down to it's just win
Starting point is 01:23:36 the games you're in. Who do you like there, Jack? Give me Ole Miss. All right. Stick it to Kiffin. Lane Kiffin gets a million dollars if Ole Miss wins.
Starting point is 01:23:48 I guess it's not really sticking it to him, but he'll get a million dollar bonus. He's already made the 500 Gur. Yeah, Indiana's been a story. It's, hey, it's football. It's on your TV.
Starting point is 01:24:01 what else you got to do, right? Usually good football too. Yeah, it was not great. Yeah, there's Lane Kiffin watching Ole Miss. He's broken up, he's tore right up. It's still comical how much money there is in college. Oh, God. Football, these coaches.
Starting point is 01:24:21 So much. Who? Not a limit for the Pinder Report today. Northwest Automol online at village honda.com. You want the hybrid touring CRV? You want the new preludes coming in? Give it a look. The pilot needs something bigger.
Starting point is 01:24:39 The passport. New in-stock inventory on the ground. More arriving daily. Start your automotive adventures at village Honda plus the pre-owned. And they're part of the Wood Automotive Group. Northwest Automall is where you can dig in on all that. You know, I was thinking about this the other day. We kind of, it's my fault.
Starting point is 01:25:01 Oversight. We didn't ever look back at our. our picks from last week. Right. And we didn't have a shoot. We forgot to do them this week. All right. Just burn them and start over. I guess, yeah. Right, you win. Congrats, buddy.
Starting point is 01:25:16 Yep, big win by you. Love winning. I'm guessing the best of us or the rest of you know, 500 or better winning records. It's where you want to end up being. And we definitely know what we're talking about. So that's we won one more than we lost. Oh, fair sure. As a group. As a group,
Starting point is 01:25:32 probably real impressive numbers as a group. Yeah, probably really impressive looking ahead to what's going on. Hmm. Hmm. Hmm. I did a little of Bet365. You know, it's because we love the outdoor game, the Winter Classic. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:25:51 Bet365, there's action there for it. Bet365, official gaming partner of Barnburner. Whatever the moment, it's never ordinary at Bet365. Download the app. Use a promo code nation if you haven't already signed up. And the thing about it is, the app keeps getting. getting better and better. They're doing a lot of work for you because sometimes you go, well, how many shots, how many points? And then they're kind of giving you, well, over the last
Starting point is 01:26:13 five games. Here's what you can expect. Both of these guys have been red hot. So I'm going to throw it all together in a little parley. Brad Marchand, Sam Ryanhart, Panthers and Canadian Olympians, each of them get a point. And if the Panthers win in regulation, that's a plus 210. Love it. Love it so much. I, you know what? I put double my unit size on it today. Oh. Yep.
Starting point is 01:26:40 Dub. Wow. It's a new year, Dean. It's the new me. It's the new me. It's the new everything. Yep. So there's that and a whole lot more. But yeah, we're getting into fewer games in the NFL, but it really only ratchets up the
Starting point is 01:26:57 intensity on it. I do love it. It's like oh Tampa Bay Carolina I don't really know oh yeah Get some bet 365 in your life you're going to care in a hurry You're going to care in a hurry for it bet 365 down to the app get in the game Love it I haven't really been watching the old uh we've been super chatting today I think we got one one yeah
Starting point is 01:27:21 Are people on holidays today people don't Should we care about us today? I got the vibe from jack that he wasn't overly excited No I know he wasn't trust me, I wasn't either. Neither am I. But you know what? But the thing is, if I look back, you were the one, you were kind of, well, here's the thing. If we're not doing anything, like if you were going to take me out for breakfast or out to the mountains, right.
Starting point is 01:27:47 Fine. Skip the day. Yeah. The three of us would have just been sitting doing nothing. Yeah. So like mid afternoon. So what are we thinking for tomorrow? Show, no show, studio.
Starting point is 01:27:57 then Jack says, Rhett, you're the boss, and you said, I'm so hung over. I can't be relied on for any type of decisions. Jack quickly replied, feels like a day off. Yesterday it felt like a day off. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:15 So then I circled back around, like, well, should we make a call? And you then said, I'm up for anything, have no plans for tomorrow. I knew we would. I was so hungover yesterday that I wasn't going to do anything, which meant I was going to get to bed at a decent hour and had no plans for today, which meant, well, well, yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:37 If you guys had called it, I'd be on my way to the hills. Oh, no. Well, sorry. You can still go, right? I might. Yeah. Maybe it was Drager, because then Drager's like, are we doing a fucking show? What are we doing?
Starting point is 01:28:58 He loves working. This guy never, he loves work. And he's like, well, okay. and then Jack is all about the studio. Yeah. Yeah, I don't like working from home, to be honest. That's good for us to know. Why is that specifically?
Starting point is 01:29:18 I just feel like I'm not as focused, you know? Yeah. I like being in the same room. Well, because you're laser focused in here. Yes. Yeah, that's the nice thing. It's the nice thing. Did we want to
Starting point is 01:29:32 I know you had the thing there Pike Pike was talking about the Calgary Ranglers I know you had that graphic I didn't show it on talk to I feel if we get a chance to shine some light on Pike probably do it
Starting point is 01:29:46 every time some of the Calgary Ranglers doing some big things they won yesterday against Colorado three two in overtime Dryden Hunt look at this top 40 in HL scoring there's Rory Kare
Starting point is 01:29:59 Marrardt, Firk. Old Bill Stromgren, four goals and four assists in his last three games. He's feeling it. The big man, coming on. Matt Bay Gridden, 25 points and 29 games. He's just
Starting point is 01:30:15 a teenager. He's just a wee boy playing in the American hockey league putting up those kind of numbers. Brett Sutter got those boys roll. Hey? Siles. Old Bretzky? Happy for him. he's a good dude
Starting point is 01:30:32 they're all good dudes all the Sutter's Brian could get a little Yeah Twain's a good The rest of them are pretty good You're pretty great Thanks Pike
Starting point is 01:30:51 Top 40 Top 40 Five in the top four I used to work at a store called top 40 Oh You were so good Top 40 what? It was a record shop
Starting point is 01:31:05 That's where you'd go to buy CDs. You're going to buy CDs and records. Did they have like a top 40 at the front? Like why was it top 40? Well, the top 40 was a big deal. In radio days, back when radio used to be a thing, you'd have the charts. The hits that week, it'd be, it's the top 40 countdown.
Starting point is 01:31:30 So it was kind of a play on that. It was hot. I used to record the top 40 on Sunday night. Saskatoon. You had your cassette and you'd play the radio. Yeah. I'm trying to remember now because we used to play on the country. There was like the Bob Kingsley, the American country countdown.
Starting point is 01:31:48 And then there was Rick Dees had a top. Rick Dees was a rock. Rick Dees and Dick Clark and all that sort of thing. What ball drop did you watch? I didn't, none. You were in bed? No, just disinterested. But you're up to celebrate.
Starting point is 01:32:08 I was up. Alone? But yeah. You're a loser. Mama Bear was tired. She had to pack it. She had to call it. Kids were out.
Starting point is 01:32:20 I don't know where they were doing. I was overserved. Really, hey? At your own house. And started looking at pictures. Oh, yeah? Like the old school printed pictures. You went to find hard copy pictures.
Starting point is 01:32:32 Some interesting things popped up. Can you share anything with us? Jack, let's take a look at some of the, I saw one. It's pretty good. So we have only got one of these things to do you know, for Pete's sake.
Starting point is 01:32:47 Manso, Dan, it's a good one though. Five goals. Super chat. Money for the U.S. Centers of Calgary. Handsome Dan, 10 bucks all season long for Flames' goals. It's really quite a commitment. This might be a pinder question, but every year I buy a really nice
Starting point is 01:33:06 single malt scotch. that I sip on throughout the year whenever I celebrate a win. Any recommendations I am partial to smoky and full-bodied. Been with a few of those back in the day. Just smoky and full
Starting point is 01:33:23 packs of darts. Smoky and full-bodied. I am not a Scotch guy. It might be a pender question. I could text my brother-in-law love Scotch and he could probably I could cheat. But I'm not sure he'd,
Starting point is 01:33:44 I'm not sure how tight he is on, he's not a great textor, I don't know if I've ever had scotch. Oh, it's good for us. Sunday during the stream, we'll bring some in.
Starting point is 01:33:53 To celebrate a big stealer victory. We're drinking temples. We're having temples for sure. Yeah. Yeah. If they win, sure, some scotch.
Starting point is 01:34:02 Okay. Fair enough. Is it Lagavulin? Something like that. I forget what her name was. She was, but definitely smoky. All right.
Starting point is 01:34:13 We have no help for the, I feel bad for Hansom Dan, but he's new right off the start. That might be for Pinder. Well, and Pinder, here's the thing. He'll tell you. He's a left-handed defenseman, no, he's not. And so he would just make up something. You'd buy it and be like there's no smokiness.
Starting point is 01:34:30 Yeah, he'd speak confidently about it. Oh, yeah, well, this is a, yeah. Record-setting world winning. Yeah, Camelama Scotch is definitely, I think it won some scotch tasting world championships. He'd be in the store going this. What did he say? Real things like bathwater. What is he talking about?
Starting point is 01:34:48 It's vodka. Well, that was fun. I'm glad we came in and did this. I think he did the right thing. Hey, Dreggs was good. There's no sense being lazy. It's 2026. There's no lazy in our.
Starting point is 01:35:02 No way. Knew us. Procrastination. Done with that. Laziness. We're going to get mugs and socks and t-shirts and hats. Oh, look out. Watch out for all.
Starting point is 01:35:14 all the stuff coming your way. Yeah, I just got to get through the weekend for then. Monday's a good day to start. Yeah, it's still a good chance. The Christmas decorations will be up next week. But that's just because we're such celebratory folk. We're so into the spirit. Nothing to do with.
Starting point is 01:35:30 I think it looks great. I don't know if I want to take it down. Yeah, I mean, you do get the blues, the post-Christmas blues a little bit. You need something to look forward to? Oh, yeah, I've already freaked out a couple of times. Did you? Yeah. Yeah, all the sheer.
Starting point is 01:35:47 is gone. What's going on? What's it called now? Circle K? Yeah. I was at Circle K a lot. Yeah. It was good?
Starting point is 01:35:59 It was good. It's always good hockey because it's a lot like World Juniors. Those little bastards are out there giving her and then they'll make a mistake. You're like, ooh, that was a bad one. You're going to work. So it's always feels like there's, they don't really put it away. Yeah. Did I see it was site loss?
Starting point is 01:36:15 Los Blas. The Americans have come up in one a few years a little concerned. I'm going to say this, and I don't care because it's good hockey. They're cheap. Who is? Americans. Oh.
Starting point is 01:36:29 In this tournament. I think N.A.X. Who played in a final against the cent. Los Blus. Had 14 kids that were born in the year 2010. A young Lankow out there. A young Derek Lanko
Starting point is 01:36:44 Yeah. Blasting him kicking ass. Damon was there. He looked like shit. He must have been drinking a lot. Holy Chris. We won world just juniors together. You did, yeah.
Starting point is 01:36:54 But the Americans had like 10 or 12-07, which is technically legal. Three, four years different. Well, why don't the other teams bring? Well, we don't like to cheat. It's because the Canadians and the Americans can't agree. on what's right for kids hockey because the dumb Canadians decide that we need to combine years
Starting point is 01:37:19 and the Americans play year of birth and it makes more sense. So kind of tarnish on the... Yeah, it wasn't well deserved or earned. I say extend that tournament one more day. Those poor kids, they have to play three games and 24 hours to win that tournament at the end.
Starting point is 01:37:39 It's a lot, yeah. It's a lot hockey. It's a great tournament though. Great tournament. Rich history. If you've never been, next year. Shultz won MVP again. Good player.
Starting point is 01:37:51 Nice. Get a body on him. Moistrar Warriors, very good team. Maybe the best coached team I've seen. Oh, best coached? Your kids get a chance to play for that coach of Moose Jar? Who? Who is it?
Starting point is 01:38:05 Don't know. But you can just tell, hey? I watched how they played. I watched them play last year because my cousin's kid is on that team. I watched again this year. Yeah. They're going. Puck support.
Starting point is 01:38:18 They got down. They got the beat up because they were tied to two, two against the eventual champions. No, they played NAAX. They didn't win. Finalist. But then they only only had 4D. They ran out of gas. I always felt bad the COVID year because that was my kid, not that he was playing,
Starting point is 01:38:40 but there were guys his age. It would have been, we're getting to play in the. It's a big deal. Max at the time. I was like, sorry. Shut her down. Cancelled. It's like,
Starting point is 01:38:49 damn it. Remember when he did the World Juniors and then they canceled it? Yeah. Started it. Yeah. Cancel. Yeah, just pull the plug on it.
Starting point is 01:38:57 I didn't. Already here. Stupid COVID. Way to go, Nenshi. Weren't you in Miami or something? I was. It was great.
Starting point is 01:39:06 I would have watched that game tonight. I'd watch tonight, but I'm in, they don't have it here at my hotel at the Florida Keys. swimming at the dolphins. That's right. I've got a jellyfish sting. I kind of,
Starting point is 01:39:21 it was great. Oh, we got a thing here. It's not. It's Blaine. Sure has been a nice week of not having TL. Shut up Pinder at my phone. Even the pregame,
Starting point is 01:39:35 even the pre-show activities are different. Yeah, everything is calm. Just everything. Just kind of like that. It is a lot more calm without him here. I can come in. I can put on my country music and
Starting point is 01:39:49 just what happens otherwise though? Well, I come in, he's blasting his EDM or whatever the hell it is. He's sending me a million pictures that he can't put in the drive himself. It's always bitching about something.
Starting point is 01:40:06 I'm going to give him shit when he comes back. Are you? I'll get to the bottom. All right. Got these in the file yet. I'm going to tell him. If I can do it, you can. Yeah. And what's always the best is sitting down, okay, we guys, just one more, Jack. Just a couple more. Just a couple more than Jack. He doesn't understand half the time. I've already downloaded the file. So, yeah, like it's done.
Starting point is 01:40:32 It's done. It's ready to go. Labeled number. And then he'll add like four more during the show. Change the numbers of different ones. I've got a guy puking eggnog into a bucket here, Jack. Just one more. Just get in there quick. It's another thing he'll do too. He'll go in and change the numbers halfway through the show and I've already downloaded it. So the numbers save on my end, but they're different on his end. Just trust us, Jack, that we're on your side. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:40:57 And it's whatever. It just doesn't get how it. But it's like, you know, if you learned how to do it, it would solve all of these issues. And he's just really not interested in. No. It's got other problems. Just one more here, Jack. I just got to just do one more here, Jack.
Starting point is 01:41:14 sorry, but he'll be back next week, I think. I assume. Don't care. No, I will be here. He makes the show better. We'll all be back. I like when he's here. To take the Christmas ship down.
Starting point is 01:41:27 I'm not doing that. We're shifting gears. I didn't put it up. I'm not taking it in. Flames. It'll be a Flames game day when we come back. They play Nashville Saturday. They'll be the crack and to wrap up the homestand on Monday.
Starting point is 01:41:39 It might be over 500. I'll be back Monday. Layoff position. We'll be wearing the, our Steelers gear. Yes, sir. Have our helmets on. Big win.
Starting point is 01:41:49 I already can't wait for Monday. But you know what? We can't get to Monday. We're coming in here. Bring a pillow and a blanket. It might just stay here. Might just stay. How is the,
Starting point is 01:42:01 for a show that almost didn't happen, Jack. How was a show? I think it was very good. It's our best of the week for sure. Yeah, probably right. I would say so. Yeah, it's a little foggy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:42:14 Not today, though. No. See you, buddies.
