All right. We are rolling. It is Wednesday, the 27th of May.
Where'd you go, May?
Really?
May, where'd you go?
She go. Welcome to Barn Burner presentation of Bet365. Hockey fans check out.
The three-goal early payout.
If your team goes up by three, you get paid.
It's that simple. Get that app. If you haven't already,
use Nation as your promo code when you sign up.
Be 19. Be responsible.
On the YouTube live, if you put a comment into the comment section with some dough,
we take the dough for the U. Centers of Calgary.
They do good work with it, and then we put your comment on the show.
You become part of the Barn Burner community as we're here in the McLeod Law LLP studios.
A little toasty.
I put the AC on.
I hope that's okay with everybody.
Oh, good, because it is.
I had to take a bit,
had to take a log off the fire here in the.
You know what I hope, Dean?
I'll really hope that the government gets involved and sends out a,
there's a heat warning.
I mean, a good heat warning.
Yeah.
I'm going to add a layer.
Is that okay with everyone?
I know because it's a little warm,
AC on,
just if you don't mind.
It's okay?
Wow.
Props.
Nice.
It's a little tight.
It's a little,
it's just medium.
I feel like that fit a lot better last year.
No,
it was always small.
Vegas ones were tight.
The King's ones were dialed.
Always been a big Vegas guy.
You know,
just okay.
Good to see him back.
Here in Calgary.
obviously a lot of fortunes in the future of the franchise,
hinging on the next round.
I was curious.
Yeah,
now I get it.
Taking care of business in the past,
taking care of us.
Now I get it.
Just a lowly expansion team working the...
I appreciate you cheering for good people, Ryan.
Everyone loves what you do.
Saudi ladies.
It could be...
Check the golden.
She tied.
To do it like a toy guy.
Yeah.
A wetsuit.
Yeah, I was doing some scuba diving in this.
Yeah.
Well, she's over.
Yeah.
Yeah. Colorado. Thanks for coming.
Oh.
It's, I don't know.
Like, that is, how dejected are you if you are anyone in that organization?
Very.
Like, it could not have been better position.
And it could not have been, and it could not have, like worse.
I mean, maybe earlier rounds, but the way that you dismantled good teams along the way.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You kick the living, but Jesus out of minutes.
Minnesota. L.A. too. L.A.'s on a good team, but they still won't.
There's got to be a, I mean, we know there are injuries. Many very good. You wonder if there's
a bunch of. Well, that was the question I was going to have. I mean, we'll get into. We can talk
with the game and the goals and everything that goes. Injuries, for sure. Would it have mattered?
We're talking about a four-game sweep is, so if those guys are healthy, what were the
What were the scores of the games?
I don't think you can look at it as a we got all four and you got zero.
I think you have to look at it on a game to game basis.
Frick, they were up three nothing.
Colorado chansom, he was one and two pretty handling.
He came three, they did until they didn't.
And then last night was Vegas's best game.
Yeah.
And Colorado was not best.
Yeah, they seemed.
They seemed disjointed and resigned to a certain outcome.
I mean, going back to what you guys were talking about yesterday and I'm like,
I kind of poop.
poot it because I'm like, yeah, they were mad. They lost.
So they're disheartened.
That'll, that won't show up. Did you see someone
out there that's like, I'm not letting my season end
like this? Like, I'm going to go run
through a wall for this? No. Nope. And that's what I
wonder about the DNA of this team now.
Because you've added a lot
of older guys and vets who are on their final
contracts and you're up against
you know, in the division
some young and hungry groups.
And obviously if they're healthy,
they're obscenely talented. But
like, I think you need to change
something material here. Can I go deeper? Can I go deeper? I'm I don't know their age of their
players. I don't think they're that old. I don't think the car and McKinnon and Natchez and are ancient.
Your key guys are still good. What I was wondering about last night after they lost was
the talk of Landis Dogg needs to be here because he needs to. But when Esco's sideways,
can he even steer the ship? Do you know what I mean? It's about Nate. It feels like there's
dynamite in that room.
And this is a million miles away.
K.L. come home, get away from the dynamite.
You don't play with dynamite.
But I don't know.
Maybe I'm thinking too much about it.
But it feels like any time that, not anytime,
this specific time when things weren't going well,
those guys look to freeze up.
Now again, maybe they're all beat up and beat to piss and injured.
Linus Cog, he was the only guy that scored last night.
He had three goals in the four games.
And it's hard to just look at numbers.
They just have one in the same.
Nate's playoffs?
No, he was really good last round.
Last round.
But did how many goals did he score?
I thought I heard somebody say last night.
He had one.
He was on a bit of a cooler at this point, but I don't know where that started.
He had nine points against the Wilde in the five games.
That's pretty good.
But we're talking about Nate here, guys.
Like, that's what this is about.
Right?
If we're asking questions about Landisog,
because he can insulate from Nate,
and we're wondering about, you know, dynamite in the room.
And now we're talking about his dynamic with the coach,
which we've mentioned this postseason run.
It's like how do you manage Nate at this point?
Like what needs to change there?
Losing ages people in a hurry, right?
Because six months ago we were not worried about their age.
When they added Cadry at the deadlines, like,
ooh, this is another old guy.
The Brock Lobster, he's an old guy.
But yeah, Nelson is 34.
Nate's 30.
Landis Cog is 33.
Codry's 35.
Nachushkin 31.
one, you know, they won't bring Burns back.
But, you know, McCar is already 27.
Devon Taves is 32.
I don't know.
I like this team.
They're still very, very good.
It's just can they win a cup?
And how do you deal with the Berkeley?
They're not going to have a clear path.
No.
This was it.
This one.
This was, but, but you want me to cliche?
Yeah.
Still get any of it.
Or just state the others.
I guess it's hard to do winning the cup, apparently.
Winning is hard, yeah.
The other teams are,
Are they?
They're trying hard.
They're trying too old.
It's all.
When was the last time a team was the best team for
Chicago?
And it wasn't even a full season, right?
Like it was,
I think it was 2013 when they're coming out of,
I don't,
well,
shortened year.
Like to win the President's trophy and win the Stanley Cup is,
it's proven to be incredibly difficult.
It's real rarity.
It's like Pinder sober at midnight.
It's incredibly rare.
The thing of it is,
they had the cameras on Nate and the warm mouth.
He looks a little ginger.
It looks a little tin of it.
It looks a little sore.
And then he,
shoot that shit up and freezing and all kinds of stuff.
You should be fun.
Then he was,
then he was all right.
He was buzzing around.
And then 4.42 in.
You don't even get to the first TV timeout.
Guys are still getting their first shifts under.
Okay, feeling good, boys.
Here we go.
And then it's,
I guess it's a brain cramp.
It's McCar and it's Cadry.
You got, I got, who, you, me, who, you, me, who's got.
Oh, you got it, not mine.
It's, it's a, it's a, it's a flip out of the zone by Theodore,
I believe it is.
And then it's a great.
It's a hell, hell of a grab by stone, puts it on the ice.
It's a great move on the goaltender.
And it's won nothing very early.
And the crowd is then into it and doubt starts to creep in.
And more than that, it allows Vegas to do what they do, which is let's clog.
Let's, uh, let's make our, let's play our game.
D.
Go ahead, Jack.
Play that son of a bitch.
Talked about it long enough.
He's allergic to play.
Are this over there?
Oh, well, there.
What's he doing over there?
Christ.
So there it is.
Zip!
Codry's got to be hurt.
He was...
He missed a lot of time after they added him.
Remember we got hurt right away with a hand or something?
You see that...
That backtrack there is not...
Burst of speed.
Not overly aggressive.
And it was interesting watching on the broadcast.
I was waiting for the...
Okay, show this replay.
Stone was like, okay, celebration over, face off.
He's back, et cetera.
He's ready for the draw.
Let's go.
Let's keep at this.
thing. Not much for the goalie to do
there. He was good
last night. They make the goaltending swap.
It didn't matter in the end, but he made
24 saves, I guess, on the night, but
a couple were tremendous
along the way. My two biggest takeaways
is maybe we underestimated Vegas.
And I don't even know if we did, because they
played so flat all
year that you're...
They had an awful regular season. Yeah, they were terrible. They were part of the
pillow fight. So we'd give ourselves
a pass on maybe our grading
of the Vegas nights, but you've got to
give them credit and you question what the hell is going on in Colorado, how much the
injury has impacted it and what their dressing room is like because they did not come flying
out of the gates and take over the first 10 minutes of the game.
Even those games in Denver were weird.
It felt like the crowd was out of it early.
They didn't feel like and we see it a lot of times.
you go into the visitor, you go into, we're on the road.
And that team just survived the first five, ten, just hang on for dear life.
Vegas never had to do that in games one and two.
I, it looked.
They were down, but it was always a shot away.
Like they came back in games one and two lakes and one.
Yeah, maybe games.
But you're right.
It wasn't electric.
Like if you're Colorado fan, you're like, geez, we've been creating a lot.
How are we only up by one here?
Like, we're still a shot away.
It was a nervous lead, not a, oh, boy, so roll up.
And maybe everyone's hurt.
Maybe everyone's hurt.
And Vegas got lots of guys hurt too.
Mark Stone missed game one and two.
But it's a four-game sweep.
And you talked about Bednar.
Here's Jared Bednar.
We played his clip after game three.
Little down.
He was a little somber.
The somber tones continued last night.
You wonder if he's.
You wonder if they knew.
If they knew, felt it coming, knew it was coming.
And now what's next?
Here's Jared Bednar.
look at this and we'll see how it goes, but this, we run into a buzz song, Vegas.
I think they deserve the credit and so not a knock on our guys and how hard we played,
but they're a well-o machine right now peaking at the right time, and I look at their series
and man-to-man, like they're playing at the top of their game, and it's a very, very good team that we
lost to, and we'll have to regroup and reassess and reflect on.
our season and our series and
go from there.
And you know what it is?
What's he said?
They're shell shocked.
Yeah.
Yep.
They lost one game in each of the first two.
They had an unbelievable resonance trophy,
one of their best seasons in franchise history,
and they've had some great teams.
They're eight and one coming to this.
They're completely, they,
what the fuck?
What happened?
How did this happen?
What just happened here?
And I think it was Logan O'Connor.
It just happened so fast.
Mm-hmm.
people were referencing the eight days in jet fuel.
Yeah.
Was this eight days and there was only one trip.
It was,
I guess maybe not a lot of jet fuel because Colorado was at home.
They made one trip to.
I guess now clean out your locker.
Are you at a point where,
so okay,
so if you're,
if you're Colorado and the emotions are high or the emotions are down or
there's lots of emotions,
let's just say.
It's a situation where,
why don't we go away for a few weeks
and look back and go, yeah, we lost to a really good
team, we're still a very good team
or do we look at this squad
and go, well,
a change needs, something needs to happen
because they didn't win the cup.
Like, they won the presidents.
Like, I'm trying to recall, I could be wrong,
but didn't the Rangers
win the presidents?
Lost these Crumbers final.
Lost in the semifinals to the Panthers
and started to dissoning.
mantle or at least
It was around the next season
things unraveled.
Yeah.
Right?
And is that a word of caution for a team?
Was that just a unique situation?
Or is this something that Colorado has to go through?
I just,
it's the easiest thing to do and it's,
I don't think he's done a bad job,
but you've had 10 years with this coach.
He's setting into the last year of his deal,
which is the type of off season that a guy with 10 years
of 10 years is going to say, hey,
can we go work on an extent?
attention like Darrell Sutter and Chris
Knoblock and all these other guys do when they're a year
away. I don't think
that you're ready to commit to another
contract with this guy and if that's
the case, do you cut bait
now? Because someone needs to change
and I think it's part of the Nate dynamic. Like you see
him and Nate barking on the bench. Like is that
a coach that has
the full respect and attention of a player?
Is it two guys that are comfortable
is that a good situation? I don't know.
But when it's 10 years
and it's this ugly
and sometimes you need to have a sacrificial lamb, so to speak.
I won't be surprised if it happens at all.
I wouldn't be surprised even if they changed the coach.
It's 10 years.
Yeah.
It might be based strictly on that because if you just look back and go,
well, they won the presidents and they lost in the semi-final.
Should a guy get his ass handed to him or walking papers because of that?
Probably not.
But he's been there for 10 years.
So.
Yeah.
And the expectation was-
Has he out-coached anyone?
I don't know.
It doesn't feel like it.
And he's coaching part of it.
You know what I mean?
I know.
Like, that's the thing.
This group especially, there's so much high octane, like, just playmakers and skill and speed.
Like, I don't watch Colorado and say, man, their structure's good.
I do watch them and say, I don't know how your power play can be that bad.
I'll tell you what.
The power play.
The power play was one thing.
And we saw what they looked like without, he's one of the best in the world.
But without Kail McCar, they were a completely different team, like completely different team.
You need to be able to absorb.
I don't know, take any other team that has a world-class player.
Does their level of play and style, does everything drop that dramatically?
And maybe it's because it's the playoffs and the pressure is high.
But man, it was all of a sudden, okay, well, now Malinsky's doing, who are we moving?
Well, that can be part of the coaching and the structure and the,
is he running a bunch of thoroughbreds there or is this a tactically strong team or is it a bit of both?
Like, I think it's more the look at the collection of players, not that,
Oh, their systems are airtight.
They're an incredibly good team.
But what they lost to was incredible structure.
Yeah.
Right.
And again, the goaltending, we can mention in every single series ever.
If you're going to have 950, you're going to win the series.
Like, the only time I think that didn't happen was like Austin to Joe with Dallas.
Like, I know you've been saying that for days now.
But if you watch the saves that Carter Hart's making, a lot of its kind of routine stuff.
No, but that's what he said because of the structure.
Yeah.
So it's not like.
It's both.
It's not like he's, Dolbish is on the other side.
He's kind of standing on his head making unbelievable saves.
Carter Hart just kind of needs to make the saves, control the rebounds,
make sure there's not two, three opportunities after every shot.
Not to take away what he's been doing, but I think in a way it's to just say,
well, they're getting 950 goal tend.
No, and that's why I really just said they lost a structure.
It helps when your goalie's hot and you have that structure.
But nobody clogs the net front as well as Vegas is done.
And they've shown us that over the last two series.
And if you want to make a change, if you are ownership in that and you look at,
what are we going to do?
It's going to be tough to do anything on the ice because a lot of guys are signed long
term or at least for another season.
The only UFAs they have burns on the back end and Kulak, who you might want to keep.
And then up front, everybody is basically signed except for Kibbi Ranta.
So you're trying to try to get.
Very.
San Jose did it for years.
We're damn good.
We might win the presidents.
We're going to be the top of the league.
We're going to have home ice in the playoffs.
It's our year.
Now, let's roll.
I don't know what's right.
Like, even if the ownership, even if you make a coaching change, okay, great.
That's going to be some sort of spark.
But a spark for what?
They won the presidents and went to the semifinal.
And is there a coach out there that Nate won't ignite with?
It might be worse for them.
Things get tough.
That's what we don't know.
He may not exist.
That's where the, you know, if there's,
But maybe it's been pissed for a management from the start for 10 years.
Maybe if a, I like that.
I know.
I know.
Good.
But maybe a veteran coach when Nate started out would have been like, no.
Yeah.
And over 10 years, you've leaned on him a certain way.
And that's just the, I don't know.
We don't, we don't know the dynamic.
But it is a curious one because we know how hot Nate runs.
And you don't see the back and forth that he has with his coach amongst many superstars and their coach.
and it's been 10 years.
Maybe it's just time for new voice, new vision.
The torts too clip there, Jack.
Not that he was asked about it,
but John Tortorella at the end of his post game
had some thoughts about what the Denver media
should be doing.
Get off Pizzi's ass.
Yeah.
Get off Pinsie's.
You could tell he's like,
they're going to crush this guy.
Yeah, they're going to go after him.
Our team outplayed his team.
Destroy this guy and he maybe doesn't deserve it.
He's knocked off a president's trophy.
get team before sweep, you know?
Clearly I'm not a
NHL head coach or even a
quadrant, city head coach.
I'm not allowed. Sorry, city.
After a decade with a team,
do coaches want change?
Right? Because it can happen
even with players where it's like, no, I never want
to change. And then you get trading, it's like,
oh, this was good for me breath fresh air.
This is great, right? Like I wonder,
is Bednar going, you know what?
I'll go to Edmonton.
I think in hindsight, the answer would be yes, but right now it's like, why would you want to uproot and you've got two superstars in the prime and all that?
But I think what you're saying is correct.
Down the road, you know, just for any of us in any occupation, to work for different people, for different organizations with different colleagues.
Ted.
He's really healthy.
It's a long time.
Like he's the second most tenured coach, I believe, behind just Cooper.
Yeah.
I think who else in France, or Brindon would be up there too?
Like, it's, he's probably triple or quadruple.
the average coaching life expectancy.
Tortorella's getting a lot of flowers right now, as he should.
Is that good?
Flowers are good?
With the win, what is, I mean, it's just.
I would rather meet pie.
You said yesterday they were like 19, four and one since taking over.
194.
They've won six straight.
I don't know if they won six straight.
I think that was a stat all season, but he was asked about it.
So Torts, what did you do?
What did you have some magic potion?
What did you put something in the water?
What did you do?
these guys. How come it's going so well?
How did you activate this team to get?
This team activated themselves.
Let's get that straight.
The coaches, our job is to get away, get rid of the obstacles in front of them so they can play.
But this team activated itself.
It's a group that just understands.
I don't know how many they've won.
They know what it takes.
And we're just kind of guidance counselors.
that's the way I look at us as coaches sometimes, especially with this group,
when we need to bring them back in and put them on the tracks the right way,
we'll nudge them there and try to get them there.
But they're the ones that they're the ones to play,
and they're the ones that handle the situations.
And we've got a damn good group here doing that.
We'll take a couple.
There you go.
I actually don't think he has done a whole bunch.
And I don't mean it in a negative way.
I think that that group disliked their old coach enough to not play hard for him.
Yeah.
And he's come in and said, hey, you guys enjoy coming into the rink?
Yes, we are.
Yeah.
Go work.
Yeah.
Then earn it.
They're not, it's not like they've installed some new system.
Like, whoa, look at this revamp.
Like, no, this is how Vegas plays when they play well, whether it's DeBore, Cassidy, or now torts.
They're physical.
They're structured.
They, their will to do whatever it takes to win.
Like, they compete really, really hard.
And when you have had enough of your coach,
it's been there for what, two, three years,
if your work rate drops 10%,
and then all of a sudden you're not getting saved
and the shooting percentage is way low,
all of a sudden it's a shitty regular season.
It's like we've got to change us up.
We go to the guest hotline.
It's a presentation of Crystal Waters, plumbing and heating,
your crystal clear choice for home comfort.
I think it's safe to say springs here.
Is that safe? Crystal Waters.
Ready with some great spring promotions.
Ready to combat this hard water we're dealing with here in Calgary,
chlorine, get a plumbing water system.
Your tap water, everything, your bath water, your shower, everything, get rid of that hard water.
Air in your house, pollen, dust, and allergens, airborne contaminants.
Good.
I don't want that in your lungs.
This guy wouldn't deal with it.
Hey?
No, not this guy.
Not this guy.
Crystal waters plumbing and heating, your crystal clear choice for home comfort, 587, 317, 1551.
Ask them about the spring promos or go online at crystal clearcallagery.com to the guest hotline.
We go from TSN.
He's Jamie McClain.
Oh, hello, noodles.
How are you guys doing?
We're doing all right.
So I heard you guys talking about, you know, and I watched Torx's sound and all that.
Obviously, I did the game for SportsCenter last night.
And I don't want to dumb this down, but Pinder, you brought something up.
It's you get saves.
Brock Nelson scores on that breakway early in the game.
Maybe the game looks a little different.
Or Nelson's an opportunity.
Like, Vegas wasn't getting saves.
this year.
Aiden Hill did not have a good year.
Neither did appear a Shmi.
You know who's played great?
Carter Hart.
And if Carter Hart's not in the conversation for the con smite, then shame on the voters.
Yeah.
Because Mitch Marner, I know, is the leader and everyone's voting and all of that.
Great.
No problem.
He's been awesome.
But if they don't get saves, you know, goalies can be coach killers.
They can be GM killers.
They can be all of that.
Because, you know, and this isn't a quote.
for me. I work with a guy, O'Dog, says, a goaltender can save everybody from going through video.
You make a bad play in the neutral zone or a bad pass through the middle of the ice and a goalie
makes a good save. Maybe the coach mentions it to you on the plane later. Hey, you know,
manage the puck a little better. If he allows that goal, hey, what's going on here systematically?
What's going on? For me, Carter Hart has been the biggest thing, the biggest transformation for the Vegas
Golden Knights. You're right. John Tortorella, Bradford.
fresh air. We hate, you know, we're done with Bruce Cassidy. I get it. Expiration date.
That team has played unbelievable. They were unbelievable against Colorado.
Unbelievable. Colorado couldn't get in the zone. And when they did or when they did get
chances, the goalie makes a save. So it goes hand in hand. But confidence from a goaltender making
saves, all of a sudden that team looks unstoppable, this Vegas team. What happened for Hart?
Because obviously he had a lot of time away from the league. Darts believed in him.
Comes back in the fall, but then gets hurt.
The regular season numbers are pretty bloody miserable,
just like Schmeads and Hills, to be fair.
Yeah, not, I mean, not good enough.
That's the thing.
I think health, like Carter Hart was jumping on,
even from the start of this season,
was jumping on a moving train.
This guy hasn't played hockey in however long it was.
I think it was 18 months or whatever.
It was going to take him a long time to get up to speed,
just organically because of his situation.
situation. But coming back off of injury, I think you go in. The team is going to be a lot more
focused now because the coach has changed. You know, the shot across the bow from Kelly McCrimmon
saying, we needed something to wake our group up. We like our group, but they were kind of
sleepwalking through the pillow fight. And that's, you know, it's funny, you know, you've got a
pillow fight team that is now four wins away from winning the Stanley Cup. So it's interesting. So it's
interesting, but there was lots of blame to go around for why Vegas has 39 wins this year.
You know, if you look at it, I think it, is that like 39 wins, right?
Yeah, yeah, that's less than like five teams that missed the playoffs.
Yeah.
Right.
So you got to give yourself a chance to get there.
But this isn't just lightning in a bottle.
These guys know how to play.
And they, they're balanced, they're deep.
They've got a little irritability.
You're Thomas Hurdle with a little hip check on.
nature. That was this. Greasy play. Greasy play. But that's the one thing I've been kind of
talking about with people. I brought it up on my show yesterday. The last four teams that are
still standing in the playoffs, you know exactly what they're about. So Vegas, they can play the
villain. They make no apologies for it. We're here to win. Coach doesn't work. Doesn't matter
if you want to cop. You're out. And from day one, Vegas has been
a team that just focuses on today.
Not what you've done before,
not what your pedigree is.
And it, you know,
we talk about it.
Gerard Deland had to go.
James Neal,
Mark Andre Fleury,
you know,
Peter DeBoer,
they're just everybody.
It's,
we're trying to win today.
This is what we're trying to do.
Players in,
players out.
And it's not going to change.
They make no apologies for it.
The other day,
their press conference,
hey, we screwed up.
John screwed up.
We're not going to talk about it again.
That's it.
They're done.
100 grand second rounder.
They don't care.
They're just,
they're trying to win a Stanley Cup.
We know what Vegas is.
We know what Carolina is.
They're just an extension of Rod Brindamore.
That's literally,
they work hard.
They're dedicated.
They're low ego.
They just,
they play.
Montreal, young, exciting,
humble, likable team,
right from management down.
You know,
I'm looking at all these teams.
And then Colorado was just a juggernaut
that looked like they had no answer.
for Vegas, none.
And the frustration and the adversity,
this was the first adversity they had
and they didn't handle it very well.
Do you think it was as much that?
It was a,
they realized they were up against a good team
and they're like, holy shit,
they started to get frustrated or do you think they're a beat to piss too?
Lots of talk.
Did you see McKinnon's body language
when he's not getting a pass?
The head shagging, you know,
like he's a,
He's a win now guy.
McKinnon's a hard guy, I'm sure to.
I play with a guy like that.
Chris Pronger is demanding, but he demanded it from himself first.
So he wasn't a guy that sat in his stall and pointed fingers.
I don't think Nate McKinnon's a guy who sits in his stall and points fingers,
but what he does is he expects it from himself and he expects it from everybody else.
And that's a high pressure situation to play in.
But it's amazing when your top players are either hurt or not playing well,
how the rest of the group underneath them looks very average shouldn't though that's the opportunity
where they should step up and that group has enough depth if you took away their top line they should
still beat the calgary flames yes veteran i agree with you but that group as a whole was built to have
tons of depth and they had none and i mean i got a million things okay so remember years ago go
ahead just because you're right you're 100% right there's definitely
there and that. But and it's amazing how your perception of something could change overnight.
When when Colorado shredded L.A., you know, and got through Minnesota, you're like,
nobody's beating that team four times. And you're going, oh, Cadry looks great. Boy, this nature's
just fly. Oh, shame on the Evanton Oilers for letting Kulat go. My God, is he, you know, game winner
here and that. None of those players either played to their capability or all of a sudden I'm
looking at Brock Nelson.
I'm looking at
Nazim Kadri
looked 36 years old in this
series. So that's my point.
I look at them different because of the lack
of success and them not playing
to their potential underneath those
stars who were not there because of injuries.
I get the feeling
that a guy like Mark Stone, regardless
of whether he's having success or not,
is in that room in Vegas,
promoting everyone. I don't get the feeling
from a guy like McKinnon.
And I don't mean it in a bad way.
I think you're right.
I think he runs hot and everyone says the same thing
and he wants to win.
But Zedorov came here.
And Zedorov had a comment years ago
when he first signed or got trade.
I can't remember what he signed.
He got trade.
It doesn't matter about Nate
and it was kind of construed as it's too much.
Is it too much?
I'm wondering if it's too much.
And we talked about you wouldn't have been listening yet.
We were talking about Bednar.
He's going to be on a hot seat
even though he won the president's trophy and they go to the semifinals,
it's still going to be a hot seat.
But he's been there a decade.
Has he taught Nate the right way to go about this?
And it doesn't matter now, but young coach, young kid, superstar,
trying to cater to him, has he developed a guy that's, or am I reading too much into it?
The only thing I would say, and I don't know this for sure,
my understanding was McKinnon was a lot different
when Landisg was not there.
My understanding is Landisog is really good for that room
and really good for McKinnon
because he is the type of guy with cachet enough to go,
hey, breathe a little bit.
You're right.
He really doesn't.
Yeah, because you've got a dog,
until you have a dog that's trained
and then that dog bites you and says, yeah.
Yeah, but I guess my point is they've got a veteran enough team.
Nate McKinnon starts yelling at Brent Burns.
You know, Brent Burns is going to go through.
Like, I'll get a snake.
That's a good point.
I know you guys,
noodles,
you were talking about on your show,
I saw the clip that so much of what we do,
if you want to call this media,
if this is what we're doing.
But in this instance,
it's in the eye of the beholder.
Nate McKinney runs hot.
When you're winning,
it's like that guy.
Oh,
it burns to win.
That's all that matters to him.
It's like Connor and him.
Oh, man.
And then when you lose,
like, geez,
it might be too much on the room.
He's too.
body language here.
He's too intense.
He's too hard to stay.
That's my point.
The fine line, and the only example I can use from my position,
Tim Thomas, by all accounts, was a lunatic.
Nobody in Boston cared when he was winning a best,
winning a stand-up top,
jominating because they're like,
just let that guy stop pots.
I don't care what he does, who he votes for,
who he's doing this and that.
It's like, just go play hockey.
for us and be really good.
The minute that his ability dropped off, they're like, oh, we can't have this.
Can't have this in the room.
Can't have it.
He's a cancer.
It's this and that, whatever.
So it's exactly the point that, that boomer you brought up.
Yeah, yeah.
You're pointing to because Nate McKinnon, his comments, remember when they handed him
that stuffy, that pair of stuffy, he wanted to choke that guy out.
Like, that is literally Nate McKinnon.
And we were loving him, lauding him for it, saying like this guy, all he does is eat and breed to win.
And he got a silver medal.
And I guarantee you he woke up today, pissed off that they didn't get it done.
But I would rather take that than have to cattle prod somebody who is fine with waking up today and going,
ah, you know what?
I've got an extra month that I didn't have.
So it is, it's more in the eye of the beholder.
I still would want that fire and that drive.
But in the moment, when we're talking about it,
it's pointed out on Instagram.
It's pointed out on Twitter.
Hey, look at him, throw his head up when nature just didn't get the pocket to him
and stuff like that.
So it is kind of, I have the beholder.
So what do you expect to happen with the coach?
It's been 10 years.
Everyone believes he's a good coach.
You also talked about expiry date on Cass.
I was just thinking about this too, because I remember.
I mean, we've done shows together forever.
Before Colorado won that year,
Bednar was right on the verge of being fired.
And it was like Bednar has saved his job
by this incredible playoff run and winning the cup.
And that was, what are we talking?
That was 22.
That was a number of years ago.
I think the only answer to say is
the people who have worked with him know how good he is.
So there's a difference.
Here's an example.
You'll hear, and I'm not going to name a name,
but you'll hear a veteran coach.
And people, you know, after he's done, retired or whatever,
people are like, that guy wasn't a very good coach,
but he still had 500 wins in the league.
But he wasn't very good structurally.
He didn't understand this and that,
but he had good assistance around him, all of that type of stuff.
I think Chris McFarland, Joe Sackick, their whole group,
knows how good of a coach Jared Bedner is.
So what I'm going to defend Jared Bedner on is,
is Julian Breezebaugh gets asked about John Cooper every year.
And he goes, why would I try and go find the next John Cooper when I have John Cooper?
So I always felt like John Cooper will leave Tampa on his own terms, unless all hell breaks loose.
And I feel like Bedner has been, he's afforded, because he's won and that team has been, for the most part, a juggernaut under his tenure once they've won.
I think he's bought himself at least, I would call it a longer leash,
but maybe not because what people are pointing to,
and I know I'm getting long-winded with this,
is going, look at the team that just beat him.
They fired a hell of a coach that won a Stanley Cup.
Exactly.
They keep the day.
So should the ripple effect of what Vegas does affect the whole league
and how you do business, or is that just, are they an island?
That's how they do business?
We don't do business that way.
Well, with Toritz, it's a double middle finger.
It's like, not only did I just beat you,
I'm also an example of what making a coaching change can possibly do
for a very good hockey team.
Yeah, it's.
He's four times the average tenure of a coach in the league already.
Like we just say, oh, it's an expiry date with Cassidy.
And then it's a decade with him, well, he's a really good coach.
Well, yeah, I think Cassidy's a good coach too.
Is it time for a new voice is really the question.
It's not a bedner's a good coach.
I read something this morning.
It was kind of like a fallout of Colorado.
and some bullet points from a writer there saying what could they do to be better next year
as far as addressing some of their shortcomings.
They didn't have a great power play.
Awful.
So maybe there is a coaching change on the staff for somebody to handle the power play.
It has to be.
They've got all right shot.
So you're going to have to bring in somebody or they might have to have a different look on
the power play so they have more options.
That's the type of stuff that has.
has to be thought about when you have a fallout with short, short, you've come short of
your expectations.
I don't think it's a wholesale change.
I don't think it's anything like that.
I do believe Benner is now put on the clock.
But I, you know, as like anything, if you fall short, you should be given the opportunity
to make amends for that, to battle back.
And, you know, maybe they're going to sit down at the end of the year and go, you know,
what, we, we needed X, Y, and Z.
They talked about the goaltending tandem.
I've always believed that Blackwood is a better goaltender than Wedgwood.
Wedgwood had a better year.
There's no doubting that.
Wedgwood was one of the best, like statistically,
goaltenders in the NHL, right at the top, in everything.
So is he a product of a really good team and having a good season?
I would say yes.
Because if you look at Wedgwood, he's traditionally been more of a tandem kind of backup lean.
all of a sudden, this is the guy
they're riding in the playoffs. So I would argue
that if they're going to come back
with that tandem, the role
should be reversed.
I think McKenzie Blackwood
agrees with you. This was his
post game from last night.
Okay. If you missed it. I did miss it.
I mean, it's freaking hard
to not play for so long and come into
a big game, but, you know, I
just said, fuck it. I go play
best I can and give them the best chance.
I can't win and just battle.
The language on this guy.
But not just the language.
So great clip.
Interesting, it goes with what you're saying,
noodles.
Yeah.
Bednar after game three was cooked.
McKinnon on the band.
What I'm getting at is that looks like,
I know they just lost.
But it looked like a room that was lost before.
It wasn't like last.
night? Yeah. Yeah, were they completely dismantled? No, they didn't lose eight to nothing.
But they were not the team that looked like, oh shit. Yeah. We need everyone in everything and every shift.
They were dealing with this defeat starting at the end of the day. Yes. We haven't even mentioned, like, he says, well, I can't tell Cal McCar to play. It's in Cale's hands. You know, it's his body. Like, there are so many ways to say that he's hurt and he's going to do his best without framing it like Cal McCar's choosing not to play.
Like that is a superstar who is doing extension July 1.
That's a foot on a bear trap.
That's a mistake by the coach.
Yeah, I agree.
I think there are, listen, we can look back and look at some of the mistake.
I would have started Blackwood in the game.
I'm not pointing at the coach.
I'm saying the room and the coach.
They go hands and hey.
Some of the messaging coming out of the players.
But you would have gone with Blackwood, right?
After two.
Blackwood in game three.
And that's not me being a hero.
I'm just saying sometimes you need to have a different look.
I think sometimes
I'll give you example
Buffalo Alex Lyon's smaller goal tender
very active in the net really good feet
UPL was just a different look
a big body
so all of a sudden Montreal shooters are used to
hey we're looking at lion
all of a sudden there's a monster in the net
that that hole that we thought was there
isn't there anymore
to me the different look is you've lost two in a row
didn't matter that you can hey we're going to blame
this blame X Y and Z
I would have come back with Wedgwood in game three.
They did.
I'm sorry, Blackwood.
These woods, you know what I mean?
I would have come back with Blackwood in game three.
Not because Wedgwood was poor.
It's a different look.
And Wedgwood wasn't at the top of his game.
And even Bettner said would have liked an extra save here or there.
Isn't that code for I'm going to switch the goal tent?
Could be.
The other thing is you're talking about teams that use platoons all year.
It's not freaking the Sabres out when they switch their goalies.
it's not going to freak the Avzot.
It was almost a 50-50 split for those two teams.
Like, what was the hesitation?
The team was ready for it.
They've been doing it for eight months.
This is the great argument moving forward.
When you have a platoon,
and I know the saying is more for NFL,
if you have two number one quarterbacks,
you don't have one because you're always second-guessing going,
just what we just did.
I would have gone with Blackwood instead of Wedgewood
because that guy didn't play well the game before.
So if you're going back and forth,
there's six, seven, eight teams that the guy can stink to join out
and he's going right back in.
That's Vasilevok, that's Ottinger.
We know that the six to eight guys.
The rest of the league has to figure out how they're going to handle it moving forward
because I think it's something that is more of a,
it's a hot button topic because we're seeing it fail.
And, you know, the platoon system is great.
But what coaches get in their mind is like, oh, this guy played well in games one and two.
We've got to come back with him.
Maybe he's not conditioned.
Exactly.
Play that third, fourth, fifth, sixth, sixth, seventh game in a row.
It's a different workload than he's seen ever, right?
Exactly.
And that's the biggest challenge.
So it is something that has to be looked at.
You've got to dive into the numbers.
You've got to dive into the cycles.
of the team, but Pinder, you make a great point.
The team is, it's not a drop-off.
Again, it's not Kippersoft and McClennan.
These two have been playing the same level and playing with the same team.
It's like, okay, who's playing tonight?
Blackie or Wedgy?
That's it.
And the guys are like, okay, this guy, like, that guy handles the puck a little bit more.
This guy has more rebounds here.
Like, Rhett, you would adjust to whoever you in because you're used to them.
You saw him for half the season.
Yeah, it's not a, oh shit.
I mean, yeah.
It's not a panic move if you go to the other goal.
Semifinals in Toronto.
Luck every shot tonight, that night's in the net.
I've heard that secretly in the back route.
But, well, it was true.
In the, uh, but we blocked it because we loved you.
Of course you did.
We blocked it because we loved you.
That was right that said that.
Daryl gave a shit.
And everybody, fear does.
Dale came in after the first period in December.
I still remember is this is playing Colorado.
This is how you play for your good buddy noodles.
This is a pretty far.
We got you the wind.
I scored.
All right.
I love that.
I mean,
Darrell had,
he would pull out everything to go at people.
But that's,
again,
when you have a platoon system,
you got to use it.
You've got to use it to your advantage.
Disadvantage.
Yeah.
No.
Sorry.
No,
go ahead.
You got?
Are we moving?
I was just going to pivot.
Yeah,
I don't think we'll change goalies.
Jack has decided that Montreal sucks and we don't like them.
Oh.
They're boring.
They're overmatch.
They're overm.
They don't shoot.
What are we doing here?
They don't take advantage of that rambunctious crowd they've got going.
The chapel or the church or this, whatever.
Is it, are we not giving Colorado, or Carolina enough credit?
No, the people of Carol.
Carolina has, they've played almost two perfect games,
but the scary part is both of them have gone into overtime.
Totally.
So, you know, I think this series is a lot different if Dobish isn't as good as he has been.
Because statistically, 28 to 10 in high danger chances last game,
and that ended up an overtime game.
So Montreal's not getting to Freddie.
They're not threatening.
13 shots.
13 shots, 10 high danger chances, two shots in the last 25 minutes of the game.
Like it's Carolina in a nutshell, this smothering, aggressive, you know, play that Montreal has not been able to break through.
And they're in the games because they're blocking a lot of shots.
Montreal's blocked a lot of shots and their goaltender has been fantastic.
But it's not a recipe to win four games against Carolina.
Carolina was out to lunch game one to the point where Rod Brindamore's like,
I've never seen this before in my life.
I've never seen even play like that in eight years.
I love this media.
I actually was laughing out loud on the panel when he was talking because he was dead serious
going, that's not the team I coach.
I don't know who the hell these people were.
But it was it was unbelievable because it was raw emotion.
And sure enough, the next game, it's like, oh, this is how we play.
Oh, we remember how to play.
and then the next game.
Oh, yeah, we're doing it again.
So if you think Carolina's going to show up tonight
and play like they did in game one,
Montreal has to have an answer.
They need speed through the neutral zone.
They've got to get shots through.
I would love to see them take the pace to Carolina.
Easier said than done, though.
Carolina's a, they're a really good team.
Yeah, they really go at you.
We were talking before you got on about how good hard has been
and how good Dobish has been.
It's kind of, you know, for hard,
it almost feels like horses for,
course is he's the right goalie in that system that's being played for Vegas right now.
You don't need to be an acrobat.
Just make the saves, control some rebounds.
Don't let in some shit that you shouldn't be.
Whereas Dobish is having to stand on his head.
He's making 10 bell saves shift after shift after shift.
And it just,
none of what has gotten Montreal here,
what we've seen in the games two and three,
feel sustainable at all for Montreal.
And the scary part is,
now, Sveshtnikov got credit for the overtime goal.
they originally they gave it to ahio that line hasn't woken up yet maybe that wakes like
svetnikov ahio even the little guy there uh stankovan like they haven't been as as dominant as
they were in previous now maybe that's just the system and how they roll but if they get going
and feeling about good about their game that scares me for montreal that's that was my point
yeah i think that should be scary for everyone watching carolina
But I think that's how they're built, too.
Yeah.
Okay.
That lies up.
We got this.
Right.
They just play the same way all the time.
And they make you earn it.
That's what it is.
Do you think what this, regardless of what happens with Montreal, but next year moving
forward, is Montreal found their goalie of the future?
Is this?
Because you talked about Fowler and Dobish and Montembow has been hot and cold, but is, it's
Dobish's party right now.
Has he arrived?
Is this their guy now?
Well, he's their guy for right now.
and here's the thing that I would say,
you're going to 84 games next year.
So I was asked yesterday,
well, who are you going to get rid of?
Well, it's easy.
You've got to get rid of Montembourg.
Well, maybe not.
I think teams have to have three goaltenders,
three capable goaltenders.
Fowler is 21.
Montebbeau's 29 and Dobis just turned 24.
So they've got it covered in all three layers there.
You can start the season next year and say 84 games.
If you believe Dobish is,
your guy. How about 50? How about Fowler? You play 20. Montembourg can play 15, 20. And,
oh, Fowler, you don't need waivers. You can play 25 or 30 in the minors because we want you to play
50 games for your development as a goaltender. Montreal is in unbelievable shape in every position
when you look throughout their organization because they, you know, they can maybe move away
from Carrier if Reinhbocker can step in. If Reimbachers not ready, send him back down,
play in Leveille, be up and down. You look at some of these players that they have in LaValle,
not a lot of them need waivers. So they can start in LaValle and be up and down and, hey,
you know, Gallagher's contract, we might have to make him go away while somebody else comes in there.
So coming back to the goaltender, you know, carousel, we'll call it, I don't think they need to
move Montembourg. I think what they need to do is, I think teams have to,
figure out a way to carry three.
And if you can put one into minors and go,
hey, Fowler, you're playing Wednesday in LaValle,
you're starting Saturday night in Toronto on a back-to-back.
So be it because they're dealing from a position of strength.
And Dobish will be their guy moving forward and until Fowler is ready to be
an everyday guy, which he might be right now,
but they've got the luxury of time.
That's unbelievable.
That's a black price thing where you got to move it out and, you know,
you've got the time to sort that out.
We were talking about it yesterday,
and obviously it's game day today,
but we love Brindamore.
Who doesn't love Brindamore?
You guys had him on your show last week or whatever it was,
but he's so animated on the bench.
It's just,
just, it's not about his face.
It just,
it breeds comedy.
Can you imagine his head
would have popped right off of his torso
after the no too many men on the ice call.
And if Montreal won,
that thing the other night, he would have gone friggin crazy.
It was, I mean, the refs at that point had put the whistles away.
It was, you know, it was going to be either puck over the glass where they like,
oh, we have to make the call.
They would probably apologize to the bench and go, sorry, we have to make this call
because there's no way of getting out of it.
But the refs just let him play.
There was a trip on Hudson that they got away with.
I, you know, I know maybe thought it was a soft, like,
a soft non-call.
But I
thought there was calls
on both sides
that were blatant
that they could have called it
and nobody would have said,
hey,
that's here.
They blew this one dead.
Didn't they?
I never seen this one.
They knew that they knew.
And we're like,
we're not sure what we're going to do here,
but we're not going to,
we're going to try and make sure it's the,
hey,
you've got a premature substitution,
center ice.
I think they had to talk about this.
It's like,
we can't have this.
So I don't know.
I think those refs,
I'm pro ref because I travel with a lot of those guys.
You and Rhett.
You and Rhett.
Part of Union.
Great guys.
And think about it.
You're always 50% is always mad at you.
Like you can make a call and somebody's always screaming at you from the other side.
But they, you know, I like veteran reps.
I like Wes McCauley.
I think he's an animated guy.
He'll give it back to a player, which I miss in today's game.
I remember calling
I remember being involved in a game
with the New York Islanders
and I got to figure out
because Ray Froro scored in overtime
so we can go back
it was against the Washington Capitals
they didn't call Paul Stewart
was ref and you remember Stewie
like he would be yelling at the players
Gerrins Casperitis
would get like hit from behind
head first into the boards
get up your Russian
get up Russian and you're like oh my God
it was hilarious
but he didn't call nothing the whole game zero penalties he called the penalty on
Washington in Washington in overtime and I think Ray Ferraro scored I think we won like four
three and I remember Washington fans going crazy because that was the only penalty called the
whole game they were he was letting murder go away the whole game and then we we won in overtime
so you know it it happens but those are the old characters
to refs that didn't have thin skin.
You could give it back to them.
And nowadays, everybody's kind of more of like a robot out there, the young guys.
Can Montreal?
Tonight's the swing game.
Montreal gets, if Montreal can get to Freddie and make him look human, if they can get
speed through the neutral zone and actually, you know, draw some penalties, take control
of the game.
And how about get a lead?
Yeah, that's what I was going to say.
They don't have to be great.
They just have to have a lead and let Dobish be a superstar.
Like they've done really well winning games.
They had no business winning this playoffs.
Yeah, but play with a lead.
Maybe it forces Carolina to do something that they're uncomfortable with.
Like, hey, we got to open it up here.
We've got to try and tie it up.
We've got to do something.
And now Montreal can go the other way.
Like to me, they haven't been able to play with a lead, you know,
for a sustained amount of time where Carolina feels uncomfortable.
It's like, hey, we got it.
Let's press here.
Let's press.
Let's have a strong side D pinch down.
And I mean, they're an aggressive team anyways.
But I just, I would like to see Montreal get a lead early on and keep the building rocking instead of shutting it up two minutes into the game.
Two and five.
Yeah.
Wow.
Is any, I was just thinking when Rhett was talking about the, the Sutter blast or this, you take care of your buddy.
You're a team guy.
Everybody, you love everybody.
Everybody loves you.
Is there any instances that stand out?
because you're a backup and you want to play well,
you want to earn more time where you know you're playing well,
but the guys in front of you are a straight horseshit.
It's like, could you guys, could you get me a goal?
Could you get me one guys?
You're standing on your head making save after saving.
You're fucking guys.
Could you throw me a bone a little bit?
I did have one meltdown in St. Louis.
So I was playing for the Minnesota Wild.
Expansion team.
Okay.
And we're coming.
I'm going back to say,
St. Louis where we'd won the President's trophy before. Friends, you know, I love the guys on
the team, everything, but I got taken into expansion. And we were losing after the second period.
I want to say it was either 4-1 or something like that. But we had given up 40 shots after two
periods. And I was like Denny Lemieux. I came in and I was yelling. Like I was like, wake the F up.
like what are we doing here?
Like screaming at the room.
And I think Jacques Lemaire pulled me.
So in Mercy Poll, he's like, you know, you're out, put in Mani Fernandez.
On the plane afterwards, I was sitting with Fred Flintstone.
O'Donnell.
On O'Donnell.
And he goes, you know what I was thinking when you were yelling?
And I said, no, he goes, I thought we were playing pretty well.
He goes, 40 against that team.
That's a pretty, like, because St. Louis was a, you know, a killer of a team.
We'd won the president's trophy the year before.
He's like, 40 after two, that's a pretty good night, you know, considering what we are and what they are.
And I started laughing.
I just thought it was really funny.
But, you know, in the moment, I was very heated and embarrassed, right?
You're getting, you're getting woodshaded on a team that, you know, you came from.
So I mean it's up to you.
Have a great.
Fred Flintstone, eh?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
He went at Halloween for our Halloween party.
As Fred Flintstone, he didn't have a mask.
He just had the tie in the yellow.
The orange shirt?
That's that's Odie.
He's the,
Odie's the best.
He's one of the best like,
Redd,
you know him at all or no?
I don't know him well.
Everyone that does know him speaks highly,
highly.
That's a great guy.
But yes.
So Fred Flintstone,
he was the voice of reason on the way home,
on the flight after from St.
Louis back to many.
Beautiful stuff, as always, James.
All right.
I want Montreal.
I was cheering for Montreal, but I kind of hope they lose because I don't want to wait for the finals to start.
Let's next.
Once one team's through now that I've got to have it.
Well, I mean, tonight's the pivotal game, right?
If Montreal wins tonight, they're back in the series and, you know,
they're going to hand Carolina everything they can.
If they lose tonight, I don't see them beating Carolina three games in a row.
Yeah.
I'm not going to hold my breath.
Just one last thing as we go
You owe me cheese toast so
I know you'll be back at Texas.
Cheers is running.
Yes, I will be there
So I don't know how I'm going to swing this
I'm going to be in Calgary
For about 12 hours.
Well, we can do it another.
Maybe at lunch at Caesars.
I'll have an Uber Eats brought over to the studio for you guys.
No, I want to eat it with you.
Fair enough.
I will work it out.
We will work it out.
I will send you a note and you will not text me back.
like you usually do.
So we'll chat.
There he goes, everybody.
Jamie McClennan.
Appreciate you, pal.
There he is.

He's too nice though.
Because deep down he wants to rip the refs
but he's like I got to travel with these.
He's pro refs.
He's smart. He's not going to make his look difficult
for every flight he does the rest of his career.
Yeah, I got to avoid people at all costs.
I'm just going to be classy.
Get this rebiggle shirt for you, Don.
You want to.
It's quite as the, obviously, he's the goal-tending
guy. That Montreal's in a good spot. If they can send
Fowler down. Yeah, he's still young. He played BU two years ago. My God. That's
that that's, that's, that's almost perfect where it's like, no, no, no, you're going to get your game.
The problem's going to be is if Fowler's quite a bit better than Montembo, what do you do?
I don't think you can move Montembo. You send them down. That is a sticker. So maybe you
just waver them through. But they're set up ever up at center eyes. And when Hage gets
there, that might be the solution. I don't know what Oliver Capitin is. The counting
stats are nice, but you're healthy scratching them when it matters.
the most that tells a lot. He's also just a rook. He's still young. So he'll get better.
But like they are now in a window where it's like they're a cup contender for the next
can you ever, like the next five years like with this group. So it's like get ready for them to
start moving one of the best prospect systems and first rounders out the door for last piece,
missing piece of the puzzle. One more guy here. Insurance on that like they're right there.
This is their window. They don't need Reinbachers and the other d-man. It's the other
took out of Mishkov. Yeah.
Yeah. And if he's a, if he's a four, five great. I'm just saying that their D is quite good.
They could and if he's coming along still, he'd be an asset that a lot of teams would want.
It's too bad, Monson played so poorly because he would be hugely coveted around.
Well, you can forget, he was at four nations last year.
Yeah. Like, that's, I don't know what he should have been, but he was.
So it was part of the way. We talked enough about Canada's goaltending depth and it was.
No, I'm just saying that at that last year, there was a certain point where teams would have drooled that.
Yeah, they took him over Logan Thompson, I believe, last year.
I don't even, yeah, again, it's more he's played his way back to reality maybe and teams aren't going to be as excited.
If he had continued to play well, they'd have recouped even more because they don't need him.
You asked the question with Dobish.
I think he's going to be a great goal.
I think he's looked really good.
The paths are really winding, interesting one.
Not a top prospect much played in some really low leagues along the way.
grinder clearly
but I also just can't help
but think about when Yara Halak was out playing
Carrie Price and was having an incredible
playoff run and they're like,
where are they going to move carry?
And it's like, it's just goalies, man.
Like, who knows who's going to get hot?
Like Carter is going to get Utah.
Here now though.
Like it's just no, no.
I just mean that like we've seen backups
look like the man in the spring.
And then they return to being backups.
But I think Dobish will be more than that.
Yeah, I do too.
And I mean, Halak,
on to be a
goaltender.
Very good tandem guy for a long time.
Moving forward.
By the way, the expected goals
saved above expected,
which supports your case a bit.
Dobish,
like,
lapping the field,
13.7.
That's how many goals
should have gone in
based on the quality of the shot
that he's stopped.
Yeah.
Like, incredible.
Anderson's just under 10
at 9.7.
Again, he's played a lot
less games than Dobish.
It's a cumulative stat,
so that doesn't mean
Dobish has been worlds better.
Anderson's only played 9, 10 games.
Carter Hart's only at 3 and a half.
But he also got shelled round one by Utah.
Remember he had eight saves on 12 shots one game against Utah.
It all came together for Vegas when the end of that Utah series,
they started to figure it out.
I'd be curious, not that it matters because the playoffs do matter.
And regular season is what it is.
When the team around him plays differently, Dobish,
is his results going to be as good, right?
Like Haschuk won games on his own.
Is Dobish able to?
Because I'll tell you what, it's awesome to watch.
guys block shots that you don't block
quite as many in December.
Totally. January,
eh,
it's cold out.
The other thing,
like,
how would he look in Carolina's network?
Some nights he's only getting 16 shots.
Like,
he's in a,
he's in a hot run,
he's getting,
he's getting the,
feel the puck early.
I don't know.
He's,
he's on a heater,
for sure.
Like, my thing is he either is
turning into a hashic type of style.
Goaltender was like,
okay,
yeah,
even if he's not that,
even if he's just,
they've got their starter.
They've got,
they've got their guy, along with their stud D-Man, along with Coffield, along with
Hudson.
I, but I, but, well, and you got Fowler.
Fowler is going to be the better of goal tender long term, unless Doebusch turns into a
hashet, because I don't think you can play.
I feel like he's a, yes, grinder, battler, he's, he's bouncing around it, right?
He's not.
Why do you hate Jacob Dobish?
I think Dobish has been unbelievable.
I just don't know that he, again, it's like hashy.
If you do it for four years in a row, you're a stud golden.
Or are you on a hot run?
Because there are goaltenders that have gone on hot run.
Tim Thomas was great for two or three years.
And then it was, eh.
And he wasn't great until he was old.
He was well into his life.
He didn't come back from Finland until his 30s.
He was 31, 32, and he put in the show.
Anyway, it's, we hate the abs.
And we're all Keynes fans.
That's right.
We've been root for them all along.
Crowfoot Dodge.
Crowfoot Dodge Chrysler.com is the website.
20 Crowfoot rise in the Northwest.
It's a new ownership there.
It's the Capital Automotive Group.
And with that ownership, a new energy.
But the same great Northwest location,

It's simple.
Just make it easy and enjoyable.
It should be fun, right?
Get a new vehicle.
Should be a good experience.

The team knows how to treat you like a neighbor, not a number.

No drama, no run around, just solid vehicles and solid people.
Find out for yourself.
20 crowfoot rise, northwest, and online Crowfoot Dodge cries their dot com.
Nate McKinnon, we talked about it earlier before we get to something else.
Did not talk after the game last night.
I can treat me wherever.
Second rounder met this morning.
This was his media availability from apparently just moments ago.
That's where they'd hosted there in Minnesota.
Yeah, it's where he feels his best.
He's working his knee out.
You know, it's what are they aquacize?
Is that the best for the joints?
Take the weight off.
Yeah, weight bearing out in, but not low impact.
Yeah, that's right.
That's what I get.
A lot of low impact workout.
Yeah, that's right.
I'm in that camp.
I would rather try and rain in the stallion than try and kick start a bunch of guys.
Could you please give a shit, please?
God.
And like two things can be true.
Jared Bednar can be a great coach that doesn't deserve to get fired.
And it could also be the right time for a different voice and a different vision.
It almost feels inevitable.
Honestly, like before the game, they're like, how's you going to save his job this moment?
I feel like it's cooked.
like before they even drop puck.
And again, you're not trying to say the bed darn.
No, he's great.
He'll land on his feet.
He might be maybe he rolls into Edmonton.
It's a perfect fit there.
But it's a decade.
Like he's already.
It's like if your grandpa lives to 120 and he passes away, it's like he had a hell
of a run.
He doubled what anyone,
like he blew any expectations.
It's tough to.
Like I don't.
No one's upset because it's,
it was a run that never had a chance of 10 years when it started.
He almost got gassed after year one.
Patrick Wall left them hind.
I late in the summer.
And it was like, oh, my God, we're scrambling to get a coach in August.
Training camp starts in a month.
They had an awful year.
I don't know there was McCar, Dushain, but they picked really high that year.
He almost didn't get out of year one.
And here we are 10 years later.
And it just feels like, okay, would a different voice help?
They're not poorly coached.
It just might be time for time.
I don't know if it was here, but I think it was here kind of the first time where Nate and him got.
Oh, yeah.
very early on.
They got a screaming out.
This is not going to be good.
And then one of his teammates, remember, kind of grabbed them and told him to calm down.
And he actually pulled him back off the bench and he was mad at him.
He was embarrassed for falling off the baby.
You're fucking talking.
But some guys that just kind of, you think about what we're seeing with Marty
St. Louis in Montreal, like he's speaking and connecting with those guys.
It happened with Cole of Coffield almost immediately, maybe because they're the same
style of player, whatever.
You see what some of these coaches are able to.
are able to connect with their team.
Who can connect with Nate?
I don't know.
Is it David Carl?
I don't know who it is,
but maybe there is somebody out there
that can harness a bit of that,
trim away some of it.
Or maybe it's the exact same,
but it was just,
it's the expiry thing.
Because again,
we just talked about it with Torts.
What did he change about the way they played?
Nothing.
They just needed a different voice
and their work rate got back to where it was.
Torz is a hell of a coach.
How many teams he coached?
Like seven?
There you coach quite a few.
It would be Columbus, New York, Philly,
so Tolics has a shelf life too.
Everybody is.
That's six.
And you don't know how good Colorado would be if Bednar wasn't there and
someone else was.
Same with Tampa Bay.
Oh, Cooper, yeah, absolutely.
But maybe they'd be just as good.
I don't know.
The noodles points?
Like the people in the organization would see the behind the scene stuff that
separates an average from a great coach.
Yeah, but you don't know who you're putting in there.
It's the same as...
No, but we also don't...
Yeah, like, we don't have eyes in the org.
Yeah.
Like, I agree.
There's no alternate universe where...
Yes, there is.
Where someone else is coaching the avalanche.
There is with you and...
There's definitely an alternate universe.
None with the avalanche coach.
The information to, yeah.
Jay McKee's a good coach.
Give him with you.
Sure.
Well, do you have done the last 10 years in Colorado?
We don't know.
Oh.
It's interesting you had talked about Laviolette,
and he had, what, it had been seven years
since he won a playoff round.
One year the last seven was a really good run.
That was the President's Trophy year that we talked about with the Rangers.
Torts not dissimilar.
Yeah.
Oh, it's hard.
67 years old is Torts.
His first trip to the Cup final since 0-4s, that's 22 years.
He probably thought in 0-4, oh, be back in a year.
So did I have another run at this.
Torts hadn't won a playoff series prior to this since 1819,
when it was that Columbus sweep and huge shock over Tampa Bay and,
Round one. Philadelphia, three years there, didn't make it. Vancouver, obviously.
disaster. That was before Columbus, but.
Vancouver was, Torts is done. One and done. Right? It was, this guy has, okay.
He burnt too many bridges. And the Vancouver media, interestingly, was picked up quickly on the media access, the fines.
They're like, this is where Torz misplays his hand in an effort to protect his players.
He turns it into a huge. Softies out in West.
But he made so many bad decisions in Vancouver.
He had a five-year deal at $2 million a year.
He gets paid for year one.
And the deal on the termination was got half of what was left.
So it's $6 million for one year of bad coaching.
And I think there's got to be a little, obviously we're saying,
oh, what torts?
And he said it there.
You're just kind of a, whatever he said, a psychologist, just kind of come in.
That guidance.
They are playing too well systematically for there not to have been some,
tweaks and some things done.
It can't just be, oh, we hated the last
guy and this guy's- I disagree with you.
I think that that, yeah, but why,
we can argue about it.
Just because they were so sound, they dismantled
Colorado. I think they
had that in that room with that
leadership group all along. I think
they hated Cassidy. I think
they hated going to the fucking rink with Cassidy.
I don't think they wanted to do well for
Cassidy anymore. And I, I
think Torts just opened the door to them
enjoying playing again.
the other thing too is like they didn't dominate games on two at all they got out chance in both and they hit and had one more save like three they came back let's not forget that this team but like call out was a better team game one and two they just the goalie wasn't as sharp as the other guy and let's not forget how good is this team being over the last since they came in this third final in nine years it's incredible it's not a group of guys and they haven't all been there since they won clearly but this team won not that long ago they're five on five
shot metrics coming out of the Olympic
breaker into it, whichever side you want,
were amongst the best in the NHL.
But they couldn't get a save and the shooting
percentages were way low. It was a team
screaming of bad luck and also
a bit of like maybe it's not full
effort here with the coach.
Anyway, it doesn't matter. That's...
Under the hood, they were good all year, but
God, there were some miserable results
when you aren't getting saves and you don't like your coach.
We can remember watching them
the little bit that we did and going
they look flat. They were listed.
It looks lost.
Like, where's the
long stretches of town?
It looked like a
hungover sick version of the team.
Yeah.
It was not.
Are you guys bored?
What's going on?
I was kind of like,
oh, look themselves.
Vegas lifestyle has caught up to them.
Not that they're going out,
but everyone's older,
fat cats.
Yes.
Yes.
Their record,
and I know we talked about this,
because L.A.
was the same.
Remember we were kind of like,
well,
L.A.
went to overtime.
There's a real star.
They did that how many times,
20 times.
Vegas did it at 17.
They had nine wins, nine wins in extra time, 17 overtime lost points, extra time lost points.
So like you say, is it a bit of luck?
Is it a bit of structure?
Is it a bit of this?
Instead of those 17 single points, you get.
If you're not getting saves, that's going to show up in overtime.
Yeah.
Their regulation wins would be probably bottom half of the league.
Like certainly it would be.
30.
Yeah, like 30s.
30 reg wins might be bottom 10 in the end.
claims had 27.
Like, that's insane.
Even with 39 wins, the, since the SED went to 82 regular season games, only four other
teams have ever made the Cup final with under 40.
In the gross early expansion era, the 70s probably?
Well, since 80, since they went to 82 games.
Oh, sorry.
Carolina, 135 in 2002.
Buffalo, 27 in 1999.
When did we stop Newton ties?
Because that would affect me.
Detroit had 38.
wins in 97 and LA had 39 back in 1993.
LA.
27 for Buffalo.
If there was ties, that would keep win totals lower,
but I don't remember when the-
Hash could have got us a few times.
They got you some ties in there for sure.
Greg Keller, bontan meets.
He loves torts.
He was texting me last night.
Tarts.
He's a big torts guy.
Loves torts.
I like everybody loves torts until
torts goes off and then-
Torts might have learned, though.
You don't need to be like,
I think torts will always be willing to give cheap shots to the media
because it gets pissed off.
Players like them.
It's just the media stuff.
Yeah.
And in his mind,
he's protecting his players from outside distractions and interference.
Like he's just like,
well,
it's what he said.
We just clear the path of them to go for.
And that's our job.
So.
Were other people like, yeah, media is part of the job.
He's like, if he could do this job without the media,
God, he'd be happy.
I think Greg would hook me up with something for the weekend.
Hook you up with something.
What do you mean?
Like a boat?
Like if I go up there and say hi.
Well, he has products for sale for sure.

Yeah.

Yeah, but that's real.
That's, that's today.

Live stream, Jack.
Look at the pickles waiting for you.
Who's our cameraman?
Is that Arch?
Yeah.
Greg's a little bit torn, though.
Loves torts.
Doesn't really like the way that Vegas does its business.
You know, kind of.
I like the way this is business.
Bullying them around.
Doesn't really like the way Rasmus kind of said.
I kind of left the sour taste as well.
Come on.
It's a win-win for everyone.
I feel like Rasmus has done the right thing by Rasmus now.
Yeah, this kind of feels, or maybe it will.
When Chuck and Bennett went to the cup final with Florida,
it's like, are you cheering for these guys?
They didn't leave.
They wanted out, that sort of thing.
I think the conditional pick changes.
It's similar with Noah Hanifan.
condition of picks, baby.
Every flame sand with like another first rounder.
Yeah, we would.
Easy call.
And it'd be fairly, I thought Anaphin and Rasmus Anderson were good and great flames,
respectively.
And you did well by them.
They did well by you.
Rasmus at $4.55 million for six years is an incredible,
incredible, incredible contract for the Calgary Flames.
And you hope that he gets, you know, handsomely compensated as,
he's worth in his next deal?
I don't care. And if he gets a cup, the flames can get another first round?
You don't care?
This is your free, your freebie for.
I'm not, I'm not going to, I'll be happy.
I guess I'm happy for him.
Oh, man.
I just get flam.
I want good things for him.
I don't think he was a bad human.
I like to, he's a lot to him.
It don't, it won't mean anything.
It's, you know, just, that will mean a lot to him.

How do they feel in Toronto's story?
And we'll get, it'll be ad nauseum
for the next 10, 14 days.
At least. We're going to wait for the series.
But nine years in Toronto,
two playoff series wins for Mitch Marner.
He wins three
with a chance to win one more
in his first year in Vegas and is leading
the playoffs with 21 points in 16 games.
Would you say that the organization he's with now
is better at winning?
Well, yeah.
I believe so.
I think that's probably a nice place to win.
The place meets all the vitamin D.
Very hard in the old place to win when it mattered.
Hoam regular season, excellent playoffs.
I don't like the rest of the team.
They just seem to catch stride midway through that first round.
Nine seasons for Vegas, eight playoff appearances,
five conference finals.
They're now in the cup final for the third time.
Five conference finals.
A chance to win their second.
Nine seasons.
what's everybody else doing?
Like it's not like they had the coyotes move to Utah and you've got a good young team that's been
draft it was an expansion team and yes they would be very good expansion of the rules
but whatever still there's not much left from the expansion draft to be fair like to your point
it's been some excellent GMing and some cutthroat decisions and it's winning at all costs
what's Shay Theodore done because everybody else has pissed I Kelly McCrimman's got no time for
anybody else but Shay Theodore apparently it's like him and wild
Bill and who also
would be left from the expansion draft.
That'd be it.
Is Riley Smith back?
Yeah, he left though.
Yeah.
They did bring him back in trade.
I think he left him either in free agency or,
yeah.
Was McNabb there?
No.
No.
It's an incredible run.
Harry.
Incredible right.
Harry.
It's good now.
They don't,
they have,
and we talk a lot because obviously with the flames and picking and this whole thing,
they don't have those conversations in Vegas.
They're not having extra, you know, Darren Millard doing the media down there.
They're not doing podcasts on top prospects.
Top prospects.
They don't have a first this year.
Will it ever catch up with them?
I think every sport, every league it always does.
Just how long can you sustain this competitive window?
And hockey would be more difficult, wouldn't it?
Yeah, it's a hard cap.
So, yeah.
Like, they got a lot of their guys locked into long-term deals that aren't going to be
worth the money at the end of the deal.
Caps moving up again at $10 million a year, a nice rate.
That's helpful.
But where's your push from your system?
Like who's knocking on the door?
They don't do that.
They go find guys in the prime and throw away futures to go get them.
I'll, Mitch Marner, Hannifan, Anderson, Eichael, on and on it goes, Petrangelo before that.
They're also the beneficiary of being good and at a good tax and in a good city
and a good weather and a and a and you've got a few things going for you yeah like marner
why did he end up there all of those things that you just mentioned yeah the winning
assmas anderson no i hair like i'm sorry they had to bought to boston but i'm not residing there
Vegas yeah that's good they are they benefit from it for sure yeah and again i think the
the winning is the biggest piece on all that because florida's had nice weather in taxes forever
10 years, no one wanted to do anything with the Panthers.
Great. And so it's like, it's ownership's unbelievable. The building's unbelievable.
The culture's unbelievable. You know they got a chance to win every year. There's a pedigree about
the way they do things. It's, it's, it's, feels like a flagship franchise league really quickly.
There's even some of the other things. I know they were talking about Brett Howden the other day.
So how'd they get how to get howden? That was 2021, Nick D. Simone on a fourth.
We had Nick D. Simone, didn't we? Yeah. And what's he? He's got 10 goals in the post season.
or whatever it is now.
And really good.
He's been very good.
He's been very good, is meshed with, with Marner.
And yeah, there is Marner to make Houdin better.
But yeah, they.
Even Dora Faya, have the other guy in that line.
It's a later pick.
Well done.
Guy scores 30.
So what's everyone else doing?
I don't know because our whole approach is we're going to build this out.
I mean,
once your outlooks like hell, the team for a long time to come,
Buffalo looks really good.
They've built it out.
Are we excited about San Jose?
in Anaheim, you're damn right, there are.
So there's approaches to it.
I think flames are in that approach.
They didn't have that option as approach because they didn't have five years of drafts to lean on.
They came into the league, thought they'd be selling guys at the deadline, like their James
Neals and their Nate Schmitz or whoever else was on expiring contracts there.
They were in the playoffs.
They went to the final that year.
And so hockey gods.
It wasn't like, oh, we're just going to have top five picks the first four years of our franchise.
No, you're not.
Like, okay, it's win now.
And the owner and the GM and the president.
president, I mean, leaned into it and it's worked.
It is time of the Pinder Report, friends, where we'll dive into last night's action and
T-Up tonight as well. Pinder report brought to you by Village Honda.

We'll start with the final from last night.
The Vegas Golden Knights got it done.
Carrying the hopes and dreams of another first rounder for the Calgary Flames fan base,
there and a four wins away from turning that Noah Hanofin and Rasmus Anderson trade
into three consecutive first round picks to Calgary.
A two one victory.
last night. The two nothing goal felt like the Brackbreaker. Colorado did get it within one
before this thing was over. The question is, would they touch the trophy or not, Dean?
Because you'd mentioned they've been to the conference final many times before.
Here's a former River Flynn, Derek England.
That's in Winnipeg. Remember five, Dean? Five?
They absolutely got scared and blew it. This is 2023. That year went a little better when they won the conference final.
Natush pa.
Jack, what does that mean?
What?
They didn't touch it.
What would they do last night?
Careful, boys.
There's Big Bill.
Oh, Bill.
Billy.
So no touch, fellas.
That's the move.
Look at this.
Stay back.
Stay.
The Stone's yelling at the owner.
The billionaire is like, hey, yeah, yeah, I wasn't going to.
He's like, you, billionaire.
Pause off.
That's Bill fully.
Yeah, the big bill.
That's big bill.
Billionaire bill.
Yeah.
Billy billionaires doing damn good.
Nice little investment.
What was it?
$500 million to get that team and
I've already got a banner and it's worth probably.
Yeah, $500 billion sounds like we should have done it.
Yeah.
Because we were just to get that for $500 million.
Oh, what was.
I mean, give a guy a call.
Should be a text.
Get foot daddy in here.
Jackton.
get him a phony baloney job in the org. Let's go.
What's that's cheap?
Sweeping one seeds,
President's trophy winners is not easy.
Says who.
Last guy to do it.
Tampa Lightning very recently,
Jack.
That was the Hubert O.
Weger pre-Cuchuk trade.
I love how he just includes people.
We're going to get to the...
Jack, because you...
Hey, Dean, with the, uh, no touch in the...
Hey, Rhett.
Hey, Dean, Torts was coaching the other team to do it in the last recent amount of time.
The lightning.
Lightning.
because he was coaching.
The jackets.
The jackets blue.
Not the lightning.
He was not coaching the lightning.
He coached lightning too.
He did.
And yeah, you'd remember the year.
Devils it to the wings in 95.
Jack, were you dead or alive than 95?
Dead.
See, there are.
Half this less guys are dead.
More than that.
Three times in his life this has happened.
And in Vegas did it last night.
Off to the final again.
We noted it.
It's a short history in the league, but one of
incredible success.
very few blips of lows and many, many highs.
They did miss the playoffs.
A couple of years.
That one year.
One.
Yeah.
Back to the cup final.
Third time in nine years.
Flyers and Blues did it, but that was a different world.
Yeah, and you know what they did?
I don't know people remember this.
They had to take the expansion team.
They put the original six in one division and the six expansion teams in the other.
So guess how easy it was to come out of that expansion.
Mansion division versus the other one.
Even the stupid savers did it.
Most trips to the final
in this short amount of time since the Oilers did it.
I'm surprised this didn't get cropped or something.
This got shown at all. Hey, they fluked into
Wayne too. They've been lucky up there.
Oh, good. The wrench.
Vegas advances to the cup finals. Their pick, which belongs
to the flames. Rather than on a Hanifan trade will be
30th or 31st, 30th if they lose,
31st if they win. Again, Ottawa's punishment
keeps them at 32 for the Hibgeny Dadanov trade list fiasco with Vegas.
And if Vegas does win the Stanley Cup this year,
the 2028 second round converts to a first as part of the Anderson deal.
I have to admit, this has gotten closer than I ever expected this whole
asterisk part of this deal we ever get to.
And you know what?
It's kind of horseshoes and hand grenades because there's no extra pick if you get close
but don't win.
but all these conditional picks, none of them
have popped for the flames, whether it was in
the Lindholm deal, if the Canucks got through
round two, whether it was the Chris Russell
deal with Dallas, the one year,
Florida gives them pick three years down the road.
Of course they win the cup, they pick 32nd.
They had a tough time with conditions on picks.
We're due.
It's up for that James Neal on that one.
How much is you pay Pike to do your job?
The wrench?
He does very well.
Very well.
St.
St. Dean's, Sprout.
The wrench?
Yeah. He was also in that Bill Foley.
He was like 500 million.
Should it call me?
Tap a guy on the shoulder.
Horton this all to yourself.
This is wild. The regular season, it was not good in the wins and loss column.
Capitals, Islanders, devils, wings, blue jackets, panthers, and sharks all missed the playoffs with the same or more wins than Vegas did in the regular season.
They're going to play for the cup.
The block spot.
say a block.
A block spot.
It's getting some run that tweet.
Here's another staff that's a little damning.
The Canucks lost 49 times.
They were dead last in the NHO this year, fellas.
They trailed for 2,200 minutes this year.
It's a lot of time playing behind.
The team that trailed the second most,
Vegas Golden Knights.
So they know how to play from behind?
They also, I confirm, didn't like the prior coach,
because I don't know how much time they spent.
trailing under torts in their last eight or whatever it was.
It's crazy stats, man.
The memes were meming last night.
There's the Mitch Martyr. Hey Mitch, how many rounds of you once?
It's leaving leaves.
Yeah, it's a lot early.
It really is.
There's this, of course, which obviously is a real photo that took place.
Of course, the mascot for the Vegas Golden Knights team is.
Yeah.
The chance, I believe.
Sabretooth.
Nope.
And there is a photo.
in the night before game four, which
if I'm in a casino
and I see that. I'm going
right to the sports book and putting everything
on the other side. Jack, give us your
you're an expert at
table games. Give us the
yeah, I don't think it's going so
well for it. Is that pie gal?
That might be pie gal.
You got a five cards community poker? What are we
got here? I don't know.
Makes me want to go. Yeah, you're ready
because they're in the final. Let's go.
We're a sports broadcasting team.
We'll go cover the file.
Yeah.
Covered not to.
Airbnb.
Also.
No, hotels.
Cheap.
Tourism rally.
Yeah, that's true.
This Kai Ron, we're talking about the little font.
One letter makes a big difference.
You want to read the stat line first, Jack?
Kill McCar.
You don't need to read it.
Or shit.
One block, 2730, time on ice.
That's a busy couple intermissions.
Ryan.
Yeah.
It's a mistake.
Fire him.
Someone did a boo-boo.
A pooh.
Not too.
Tonight.
Back to La Belleville.
Beautiful city of Montreal.
The wish?
La Belleville.
Oh.
Beautiful city of Montreal.
Belleville.
Love Belleville.
Gold balls.
Stage him?
I believe so.
Suzuki and Svechnakov.
Is that who we're looking at here?
All right.
Yep.
The game tonight's six mountain time.
Noodles nailed it.
The style points won't mean a thing.
It's whoever wins this tonight.
Really?
This is the swing game.
Swing game.
Are we, we got a long series or is Carolina one away from moving on?
Are you trying to play Captain Obvious today?
Tell the press conference.
Style points tonight will not count for anything.
I think it's more just the point, like how overmatch Montreal's looked at times,
and yet an ugly, get heavily outshot goalies a star win, and yeah, you're tied.
We know that.
It's just a reminder, as dead as they've felt at times during game three.
I don't know this thing.
Play better.
That would help.
How about we say that?
Can you play better and kind of look like you might have a chance at winning?
What can they do differently?
Skate and shoot.
Just skate and shoot?
How about shoot the puck on that?
Good God.
Obviously, the canes have not done a lot of losing this postseason.
They are five and all on the road, the habs two and five at home.
Ten and one are the canes.
Pretty decent.
I'm a caniac or maniac, whatever the hell they are now, because I think the habs are cut.
I think so, too, but they hang around.
Go ahead.
Hang around.
And what?
Get lucky?
I think we're treading.
You hang around.
You get the scraps.
I think we're also treading into the area where there's just, there's going to be some fatigue.
They have played a lot of games, a lot of overtime games, highly emotional games.
Yeah, it's true.
And the other team is as well rested as you could be.
Eight games to get to the conference final.
And maybe it's just because that overtime is so fresh in my head.
But it was just put them out of them.
It wasn't overtime.
Just put them out of their misery.
Most of the game.
period's in one shot.
Full leaping period.
I know what you're saying, but it was like,
yeah, good portion.
I would like Montreal to win.
Sorry, I'm a bit of, I'm off.
Well, you're a Kearney guy.
You're a hard goal of, you hate the American team.
Can't stand it.
Here's your odds, courtesy,
huckstats.com, looking coin tossy
in the final, but yeah,
habs in one here, safe to say.
Keep moving.
Let us take a peek at the world championships.
Let's go to the other one first, Jackie.
We have Ivar Stenberg an incredible year.
Do you have, we have the goal or not the goal?
Stenberg, an incredible goal last night.
We can't show the goal.
In the world championships, that's a good point.
Thank you.
Here's what he's done as a draft eligible skater at the world championships,
a men's tournament.
That's some great company.
If the tournament was over and he was within a point of Matthews,
Slavkowski, who was famously a very good,
it in his draft year and well-developed Korea, line A.
This tournament is just getting to the elimination round.
He will play theoretically many more games in this tournament,
a gorgeous goal last night, and when you add that to the fact.
Theoretically.
Well, they could lose in their first elimination game or play as many as probably three or four more, right?
Okay.
So we don't know how many more games he's got, but he's got more games.
Sweden's been quite good.
as for his
scoring in Sweden this year in the men's league
in his draft year
points per game in the top league
in Sweden. Great company.
Nasland, Nealander,
Sidene, Forzburg, Fiala,
Siddine, and then last
year's high pick Antron Frundel
who went up in Chicago,
Linholm and Samuel
Why are you?
Very good player.
He's got zero
chance of ending up in a flame street.
What are you?
And a boat.
They can trade up to two, I think.
Oh, you're an idiot.
Okay.
Do the sharks take him a two?
No.
Do you think he'll be a better player than the player they drafted to?
They'll play different positions.
I don't think the sharks will, but they might and they can trade someone else and sign someone.
I just, he's, I'm not debating he's going to be a good player or anything.
I'm just curious what your love affair with Stenberg is.
Are you trying to get him?
I don't know if he's single or not.
I'm married, but, uh,
You'd make the guy with that kind of earning potential.
I mean, I'm open to different.
We want to talk about just what we might want to.
No, but what?
Like, are you just pointing out that he's good?
I just see him going like four and five and some mocks and I'm like,
I think we got to remember that what he's doing historically is incredibly rare.
He's also doing the Pender Report and you do need items for a PIN.
And the flames do pick in the top six in a month because the world championships are on right now.
And we fall.
We're interested.
Let's get to something.
Jack's going to be happy.
Gino is back, boys.
Gennie Malkin, one year deal.
Five and a half is the base.
Because he's over 35, you can do bonuses.
I can't believe how quiet you kept it yesterday.
Yeah, I kind of missed this until Ryan sent it to me.
You did.
A million bucks if they make the playoffs,
half million bucks for a game to play bonus.
That'll get you to seven.
And then every round they win another half million.
So zero.
We're very old.
We're over the hill.
What are we going to do?
Sign the 40 year old.
Bring them back.
One year deal.
Yeah,
that's fine.
I think it's a lot of year.
Kind of thing.
Like,
what's your worst case?
You gave one of your franchise icons,
another year?
I'm right.
I think that's exactly what this is.
Okay.
On this day,
many months ago,
a new tradition was born in hockey.
And it was the greasers up north.
It started the tradition.
I hope this is...
1988.
Gretzky won his final cup and started the tradition.
They beat the Bruins.
Fourth cup in five years.
Gretzky's last with the Oilers and said,
hey, guys, can we get together for a photo on the ice with the cup?
Did he know he was leaving?
You know?
You know, there's the photo.
Every year since, we've seen it.
It's one of the great traditions this sport has.
on like the handshake line that Red hates.
I'm sure he hates us too.
I don't understand the point of it.
It's the anniversary.
The anniversary of this.
Okay.
Well, I did wait and leave.
Jack,
read some books.
There's like eight on the topic.
Don't worry about it.
You were dead.
Yeah, I was dead.
I don't.
Gretzky's tears.
Go read it.
It's behind Red on the bookshelves, I believe.
Yeah.
I'd say take it, but download it.
Well, don't lose it.
Or you read it or read it.
Read it here.
When did they.
Are they back to letting the guys carry the cup around the ice?
Because that was the best tradition.
This is important.
A nice photo.
But remember where there was a couple years where it was like you got the cup between the blue lines?
What?
Yes.
It was embarrassing.
Weird.
Don't recall that.
Look at mess with the helmet on.
He didn't want to show off his dome.
He'd be in the locker room afterwards.
Everybody else is spraying champagne.
He's still wearing his, still got his win well.
wrapped right up.
Just shave it, mess.
Mark Stone was funny post games.
I'm getting old.
I'm losing my hair, but I still love these games,
going to the front of the net.
There was a great, I mean, not very flattering.
There was a shot of him with,
he had the full crusty, the clown hair going with the
cul-de-sacs and it's time.
Hey, guys going to the cup final.
Good of hockey.
Memorial Cup, Kitchener, another victory last night.
They beat, who was it, Jack again?
the uh chilewack every day every day 3 to your final
I'm ready for this turn of greasy play
this bit can be over greasy play check out this in the game
as a little battle for this everyone's piled up and that
is greasy that is so greasy
my goodness stompy stumpy
Josh Humphreys
Josh Humphreys
Bigots said up ooh
Oh, what some Chris Simon right there.
Ryan Holweig.
Get some value for it if you're going to do.
Sure you get to.
Not good.
You can't do that, Rhett?
You can't.
I used to stomp on people's sticks all the time.
That's better for the foot.
Would you step?
Those sticks are expensive.
I know.
What else we got from the Memorial Cup, Jack?
Talk to us, buddy.
I think we, with that victory,
kitchen, there's a punch of a ticket.
Punch their ticket.
Look at that.
into the final.
Just waiting.
Feet up.
I like the jerseys.
The Rangers jerseys.
I gotta get that white stripe off.
Yeah.
The back.
The back is brutal.
Rent a boat,
what do you do?
You get some time.
Was that a boat that day?
No,
they got some time until the final now.
Other teams haven't even finished around Robin.
You know what?
This is why you're never played professional sports or any type of sport of any type.
Because you get this,
you think a day off means go get shit faced and F around.
I literally ask me what you're doing.
Focus.
What are you doing?
I'll kill the day.
doing some blowing mushrooms, Reds?
Stay off in Colonna? What are we doing?
You can get it. Go down
and get some needles. You'll be fine.
I am seriously
asking you. You have played so the weekend? What would you do?
I don't know. It's Wednesday?
I don't know. What is probably nice?
Yeah. Long way to wait.
Boating is nice in Colon. You ever boat in Colonia?
No.
Why would you bring up a boat? Such a stupid thing to say.
Rockets and Everett, your game tonight.
That'll be a seven mountain time on TSA.
Let's go to baseball.
We've got a hell.
They call the baseball team in Colonna,
maybe a goal ball game.
Maybe go a ball game.
They got a ball team there?
Yeah.
Nice.
This is the Brew crew and the cards,
NL Central matchup here, friends.
And check out Yerebe, the pitcher.
He's got an interesting little sally that I think wrestling fans,
from the extreme Aridine will like.
Add it to think.
Strike, great call.
Burles, it's going to challenge it.
Bartles have two of a redact.
Two outs, top eight.
Six.
Nill.
And they go to the review.
He's just like, yeah, it's a strike.
I did the DX.
I did the pump, the triple pump.
One strike, two strikes, three strikes, you're out.
I'm going to the dugout anyway.
If this gets overturned, I'm embarrassed.
Just let's keep moving.
and hope we get the call old abner you're eating
boo boo boo abner has got some better churredin vibes doesn't it
still down dude it's may big dip in
abner's jacked up here a little too jacked up maybe have a little

Woo!
Finally, we love
dogs.
People that have dogs.
Most days.
Walking dogs.
This is stupid,
which means it makes a better.
Don't say for some days off.
I'll be off tomorrow off.
You're taking tomorrow off?
Now what?
What's you guys in your days off?
Well, you could take days off whenever you want there, right?
Is your kid graduating from high school?
That's where I had that day off.
Actually, I didn't take a day off.
I don't shake days.
I told you.
Be less grumpy if you did.
Well, there's certain things that would make me less grumpy.
Let's take Friday off, retro.

Is it tomorrow, I'm part of the alumni, but I believe it's the alumni golf tournament.
I thought you were going to say you're going to that.
I'm like, how did you get invited and I didn't?
Why did you not get invited?
I think I did.
You're an upset.
Oh, you just didn't get the email.
Get the hell out of here.
You know what I think I said is I have to work at that time.
This golf is during the day.
Yeah.
And we work during the day.
So I'd love to attend this charitable function where they raise.
raise money and give it back to people that need it for the community.
You have a prior commitment that's very important.
There is a fix.
There is a fix.
We could literally do the show from the alumni golf tournament.
We're not allowed to do that.
We're not sponsors of said tournament.
I wish we hadn't in with the alumni.
Damn it.
I wonder what the other shop would think if we showed up with our internet hacking devices.
So technical.
Yeah. I were here to, you're not here to hack the internet, are you?
Yeah. Sorry. Too late. No comment. We got through the gates. No comment.
Let's look at our bets.

Rich, I've jumped on that to beg us to win the cup.
It's now plus 120.
You've got a nice year in at 140.
140.
It was 15. Yes, true.
We're four wins away.
Bouts and around.
Let's go to the puck tonight.
Hurricanes and Canada,
the last two games have been unders and Carolina wins.
Should it happen,
a third straight game, we're getting plus 2.30.
Low event hockey, Carolina?
No.
Well, maybe.
And if it happens, we like it.
Blue Jays, even money to make the playoffs.
They're a single game out in the miserable American League
where the second wild card is held by teams under 500s.
Very gross.
And they're also going to return to health.
It sounds like Shane Bieber,
Yimmy Garcia, Addison Barger,
all closing in our returns, maybe some value now before they're back.
They won five a seven.
They've got a matinee already underway.
It's the getaway game against the Marlins.
Those are our bets today.
Bet 365.

We wrap, as always, with the super chat.
Money coming in here goes to the U.S.
Centers of Calgary, and we've made that promise.
You put some money down.
We're going to put you on the show.
We're usually pretty good for it.
699, boomers, Cows.
got all clever with your name there and you forgot to put the thing in.
I think he made his point.
Thanks for the seven bucks.
I'm with him.
Yep.
Sports comedy hip-hop 499.
I saw a fake trade idea of McDavid for Suzuki, Hage, and Dobish thoughts.
I thought it was too much since he's 30 next playoffs, but it was interesting.
Too much what way?
If the Habs giving up too much, I don't think that's wild.
I mean, you go get the best player on the planet.
You go do that.
fit wise there might not be a better spot
if Connor says I
need to win immediately
and I want a runway to win
they're young
good in one center and they're very very good
and they're superstars all over
yeah
I don't know that he wants to play Montreal
you pick his spot he's going to control the whole process
it's hard to see anything that says
oh you could trade McDavid for these
guys I mean they're not trading McDavid right now
yeah if they do it it'll be next summer
or they just walk him to UFC in two years
Or he extends there because he loves pain.
I don't know.
Yeah.
Thank you, though, sports comedy, hip-hop.
I don't dis, I mean, what's the team going to have to give up for McDavid if we're playing the hypothetical?
I don't want to do that right now.
No, it's so tired.
It's a long way.
It's a good offseason.
It's a half hour on that.
Willie March.
Thanks for stopping me, Jack.
Nice to see people giving Carter Hart credit.
There's so many haters for a proven innocent player.
It's Trevor Bauer all over again.
Yeah, there's a lot of chowders.
Dick, but I don't know that Carter Hart is.
I don't think people are hating on heart because of anything off the ice.
Do you know Trevor Bauer?
There's lots of good locker and stuff about him being the dick.
But yeah.
Yeah, I don't think this has anything to do with whether or not he's a dick.
No, he had very pedestrian numbers to go through the Utah series.
Oh, my God.
Fact.
Okay, that's, that's it. That's it, right, Jack?
Oh, so much.
1880.
1399.
Hard to cheer for torts for years.
years after 04, but he won me over.
Great to see Rass playing well.
Vegas. Cop against Conroy, another first router.
Another positive is McBridesmaid golfing.
Great show today, fellas. Thank you, R.B.
Everything's coming up.
We're going to have to ask Jack if R.B. is correct.
Everything's coming up positive.
Did he already ask Jack?
Not yet.
Oh, no. Not yet.
Yeah, Jack's going to be the judge and jury.
Not Arby.
Thank you, R.B. That's not up to you to decide.
Stop swaying the witness here.
Jack, yep, how was the show today?
I think we all need a break.
Noodles was great.
He can keep doing the show.
Nuddles was tired today, too.
Was he?
I could never tell.
Yeah, but that's because he's professional,
really good at what he does.
He's not an internet hacker.
Yeah, internet hackers.
For sure.
You didn't really say, you just said, we need a break.
Yeah, it was a medium show.
I thought we had good stuff.
I thought it was all right.
I'm heavily distracted today.
I don't know why.
I didn't notice that early on.
Yeah, when I'm like dragging shit out, waiting for clips to run.
You must not have this highlight.
He's been talking about it for three minutes.
So we, uh, why are you so distracted?
Three or moderate.
I think it's the, uh,
I, man, he's hooked again.
Damn voices.
You're back on the pouches.
We're trying to get off.
Deep.
Yeah.
I'm not back on, but I'm somewhat on.
I don't think that's a
That's an option
There's a spectrum
It's kind of a light switch check
Either are doing them or you aren't
So when I start doing them
And then I'm not doing them
Then I'm kind of like distracted
Looking for something to do
So I read his book
Produce the show
For the hour of 40
You can't have a dip going
Or just take your damn dip
Get a damn dip
So you can focus
Have the clip
what he needed.
Uh-oh.
What will a team have to give up for McBridesmaid since
Rhett thought Nyes, Carl and or
Carlo and or Riley, Cowan, multiple
fairs?
RB, this is not going to be a traditional trade.
RB, you're right.
That is no good.
This is going to be a Connor is going to tell them
where he's going and we'll have all the leverage.
And it will be a shitload of futures
because the team getting Connor is going to need
to win immediately.
Yeah, like I think RV,
you're trying to look at what would be a good hockey trade.
It's not going to be a hockey.
It's a future.
It's going to be a, here's where McDavid goes.
And it's going to be less than what they should get,
but it's going to have to be something.
And I still wonder to your, if I'm not going to be the GM that trades
Gretzky and I'm not going to be the GM that trades McDavid.
I'm not going to.
I think there's a very real chance.
The owner says, I'm not going to be the owner that didn't want a cup with
McDavid.
I'll run him to the UFA.
And maybe we work a sign and trade after.
but I'm not I'm not taking one less year of the greatest player potentially of our lives.
That's all it's kind of why I feel like it's a I guess it's fun to do if that's,
but it's kind of a pointless exercise to try and come up with a hockey trade.
Yeah.
Where pieces and assets make sense for McDavid could go because I don't think we'll ever get to that point.
Here's the example.
Like Mitch Martin just got traded.
Was that a hockey trade?
No, no.
He had all the leverage and it was Nick Waugh.
and what a third?
Yeah.
Like.
And that was almost a favor.
That's not a.
That was almost a favor to avoid it.
Yes.
It was like, I think you've been tampering.
You give me something and we'll give you the extra year on the,
uh, the extension sign and trade.
Or you know what?
Wait till a free agency and we'll see in court with Gary.
You don't mess with Gary.
No.
Uh, uh, shouldn't name my kid Gary just so they were intimidating like.
Like Gary is.
Yeah.
Yeah, Gary.
We have some discipline to announce.
All right.
Well, Jack's a mess.
Pinder's off tomorrow.
I might not come in then.
Okay.
Home show?
I'll wait for Jack to tell us what to do.
I'll leave it up to Jack.
Big game tonight, though.
Big game.
Popcorn tonight, Jack.
Double air?
Can you eat popcorn when you're most full of pouches and dip?
No, probably not.
Take turns.
yeah yeah are all your dumb buddies on it is yeah that's part of the problem it is quite a roller coaster these kids are
I know he put ourselves through a lot it feels like oh yeah I'm doing I'm getting I'm getting up I'm going to the gym I'm feeling great disarray I'm very
we're driving to pits we're driving to pit we're driving through the night I had pocket 10 pocket kings and I got raced what what how old are you
27.
Because I thought at 25, it was kind of fully developed.
You can't read you.
30.
He's a light bloomer.
They changed it.
That sign changed it.
Wow.
They did.
It's what happens when kids look at screens.
Yeah, when you're looking screens, it pushes it out along.
You want me to press a button?
Yes, probably.
See you, buddies.
